I want to go to Heart
Leopold has been living his entire life in Clover as one of its royals, but he's struggling to feel good enough as a mage, which is why he wishes to go to Heart and learn from someone else. Maybe they'd be able to help him on his journey of betterment. But he needs to tell his siblings that he wants to do this. Characters: Leopold Vermillion, Fuegoleon Vermillion & Mereoleona Vermillion Genre: General-fluff Fanfic type: Oneshot Warnings: None, canon typical Length: ~1.8k
Tumblr media
“I want to go to Heart.”
Such a blunt statement, spoken at dinner, without a word of warning before it, by none other than Leopold Vermillion. And it left his siblings looking at him in silence.
They didn’t have stern or disapproving expressions, nor did they look particularly surprised. In fact, Leo, despite having known them all his life, couldn’t read those expressions.
But he wouldn’t have blamed them for being taken aback, because to them it might have seemed like such a surprising decision and declaration to make, while Leo, he had been thinking about it for quite some time. And now that he had an opportunity to do something like this, like Mimosa had already before him, why wouldn’t he take up on the opportunity?
“You want to go to Heart?” Mereoleona was the first to ask after a moment of silence.
“Yes.” Leo replied with eyes that flickered ever so slightly as he looked straight ahead of himself. “Which! I mean, I know that I’m not adventurous like you, aneue. I couldn’t go into the wilderness for months and hunt boars for days and train the way you do. But it works for you! You’re great! The strongest mage I know, and I look up to you, but it’s…” he trailed off. “And aniue,” he continued, “it’s not that I wouldn’t appreciate all that you’ve done for me. You’ve helped me with my studies and looked after me even with all your duties, but… I don’t… get all the books. And the theories and the … things…” he mumbled.
And the room fell back into silence.
It really wasn’t about Leo not admiring or appreciating his siblings. Not in the slightest. He still looked up to them, perhaps more than either of them might ever know.
“I saw Sister Theresa last month,” he sighed, rubbing the back of his head. “And she and I talked a bit… and she said something like… ‘I couldn’t train your brother the way your sister did. Not that I needed to train your sister a lot. She trained herself.’ And I… it made me think about how, if you couldn’t train in the same way, then maybe I can’t train in the same way either. So… I thought that maybe I should… I asked Sister Theresa if she would train me, but she said that she has her hands full with the orphanage.”
The more he talked, the more it seemed like he was unappreciative of the teachings and lessons he had received from his siblings. At least to his ears. But he still knew what he wanted.
He knew what he wanted, but wasn’t sure how to explain it, without sounding even more ungrateful. Which is why, the room stayed silent again, until Mereo sighed.
“You know, when you were a toddler, I wanted to throw you into a chasm and have you climb out by yourself. It’s how lions train their young,” she picked up the wine glass in front of her and took a sip. “He was against it,” she nodded to Fuegoleon.
“It would simply have been too harsh.”
“Maybe. In retrospect.” She reluctantly agreed with a glance to Fuegoleon. “But I did take you, both, out on that day to a gorge, fully intending to make you perform the test.”
Leo wasn’t quite sure why aneue was telling this story to him, but he didn’t want to interrupt either.
“However, it wasn’t my intention to get rid of you,” she said with a tone that was serious and definite. “I intended you to pass the test.”
“He was three,” Fuegoleon noted.
“My brothers are not weak!” She looked at Fuegoleon from the other side of the table, with a stern expression and a tone to match. “But I may have expected too much too soon,” she shrugged, swaying a bit on his side of reasoning. “The point still stands,” she turned back to Leo, “my brothers are not weak. Neither of you.”
And Leo… he wasn’t sure if he had ever heard …anything like that from aneue. Her giving praise or recognition in such a way, spoken out as she thought it.
“What aneue means to say is,” Fuegoleon continued, “that we don’t think less of you for seeking another tutor. The reasoning behind the decision is logical, and each one of us must find their own path as a knight. As long as your heart is true and you give it all, there’s a lesson to be learned. Even in every defeat, there is something to be gained, just as there is knowledge down every road. If nothing else, then the knowledge that there is nothing else down that path. But it doesn’t make the path any less worth travelling.”
“Life is more interesting outside of the Capitol,” Mereoleona noted. “And will teach you more than the dust-bearded stock-ups this city is filled to the brim with.”
“Keep your mind open and your heart brave,” Fuegoleon continued, almost as if it was a goodbye there and then, while it wasn’t.
“You’re… not upset?” Leo still needed to ask, because, he still wanted to make sure that there was no ill will in the air.
“We will be sad to see you go. Just as we are sad to see aneue go whenever she embarks on her exploits.”
“Show them what Vermillions of Clover kingdom are made of.”
“He’s not going there to start a fight, aneue.”
“He will finish one.”
“That is …not what I meant.”
“But it’s what I meant.”
The two older siblings stared each other from opposite sides of the table, perhaps a bit annoyed by one and another, but, Leo knew, perhaps better than anyone, that even if the two bickered and fought, they were always the first to jump into each other’s defence when there was a need.
Sure, they were capable of fighting their own battles, which was also known by both of them. But… they were always on the same side of the battlefield at the end of it.
Just a pair of lions roaring on top of each other; exercising their strength. That’s what it was. They were testing each other’s skills out. To make sure that the other wouldn’t be beaten down quite so easily.
It was something Leo had been left out of. Not that he necessarily wanted to get into a fist fight with either of them, but… it was a kind of an isolating experience. If he had to admit.
Though it wasn’t about not getting it. Aniue and aneue had been toddlers around the same time, and aneue had tugged aniue along on many adventures during their childhood. They had been playing in the same sandbox, so to say. While Leo had been in a new sandbox, a newer one.
Aniue and aneue had been fighting the world together ever since they were little, well, at least some. Though they had been quite independent from what Leo had understood. But they had also been on a common front. Whereas Leo had been someone to protect for the both of them. Which, again, wasn’t something Leo wouldn’t have appreciated.
He loved his siblings. They were people that he could always count on to have his back, and those who would be there to raise hell if something happened to him.
But… he wanted to be equal with them. He didn’t want to be someone to be guarded and protected. For once in his life, he wanted to protect too. And not be someone to be dragged along.
He wanted to pull his own weight.
‘Keep your heart courageous’ aniue would tell him, which wasn’t a bad statement. It wasn’t a bad encouragement or bad words to live by. But it was difficult while living in a kind of defeat. He just wasn’t as strong as aniue or aneue. He could understand why that was, but it didn’t make the feeling any lesser; the frustration of it.
And he was frustrated. He was hungry in a way only a young knight could be. He wanted to be better, and he yearned for that betterment. Even if it seemed to be hidden under mountains, bottoms of ravines, or in the petals of dandelions. And he was more than ready for it. He just didn’t know how to attain it with the tools he currently held.
The best Fire Mages of Clover Kingdom were, with the exception of Mother Theresa, in that room. But they were of little help to Leo anymore. They might just as well have been speaking in a language he didn’t understand when it came about mana and magic. Though aneue was much less about talking, and more about figuring it out as she went along, but that method wasn’t suitable for Leo either.
So, he’d have to find answers from elsewhere.
“So… I will go, to Heart,” he repeated. He had made up his mind, but this time, with the statement, he wore a smile. A soft, careful smile, because he knew that coming back home after the training would be easy. Or easier at least. His siblings wouldn’t be upset with him for favouring someone else’s teachings in place of theirs, but instead they’d be happy for his strength and overcome achievements.
Mereoleona smiled while bringing the wine glass back to her lips. It was a content smile. A pleased smiled. And … perhaps it was a proud smile.
Fuegoleon seemed content. He seemed happy; his supportive self. But overall Leo would have deemed him less expressive, which aniue was. He was a stoic man, whereas aneue was a lot of things, but stoic wasn’t one of them.
Leo nodded, more to himself than anyone else. But there was a strange feeling to it all. The moment, the knowledge that he would be undertaking a journey, a kind of an adventure, as just himself. It felt almost like a beginning of something, and he was standing right at the edge of the path, ready to take the first step.
There was fear in it. But it was the good kind of a fear. The kind that holds anticipation in itself and which is filled with an eager heart and a racing mind, but is coupled with a smile.
He would be able to do this.
He would do this.
He will do this.
He will become strong and capable, someone that his siblings, and, most importantly, he himself could be proud of. Now, he wasn’t sure if he was, proud, of himself.
But he would be.
Actually, he already was. He was proud of having made the decision, now he just had to stick to it. With a courageous heart, an open mind, and will to … finish a fight.

i. leopold vermillion feat. big bro and sis, headcanons
ii. warnings/tags: suicidal thoughts, self harm
iii. synopsis: leopold tries to commit suicide
iv. note/s: LEOPOLD VERMILLION DESERVES ALL THE LOVE AND ATTENTION!!
Tumblr media
It is not a secret that Mereoleona and Fuegoleon Vermillion are both extraordinary and capable magic knights. Geniuses to be exact. After all, Mereoleona is named as the strongest magic knight, and Fuegoleon is the captain of the squad Crimson Lion.
Both of them are like a strong blazing fire that covers a massive perimeter, especially as they grew into adults.
As amazing at it is, it led to Leopold, whose age gap between the two older Vermillions is half of theirs, be overshadowed and pressured to follow their footsteps.
The whispers of the people, after all, is something he is not oblivious to.
Sure he loves his older siblings, he admires them a lot. But the judgement of the people saying that he isn't even near the two Vermillions' level, hurts his pride a lot.
He's a Vermillion too, so why can't he?
His confidence pummeled low. Why can't he be as great as them?
It hurts.
The way they look at him, talk about him. Are his efforts even enough? Is he really enough?
It was too much for him as a young teenager to take. So he thought of one thing.
Would it be better if he died?
But his older siblings reacted otherwise. Said otherwise.
It was a punch in the face (quite literally because Mereoleona punched him hard before he could even fall an inch from their mansion's highest balcony)
So he sat on the balcony floor on his butt with his breath being squeezed out of his lungs by both of his older siblings.
Their brows were furrowed and tense, a sign they were both worried, mad, and relieved.
"If you badly wanted to die, say it in front of my face so I'll do that deed for you" is what Mereoleona said despite the unshed tears and quivering shoulders she tried to hide.
Fuegoleon on the other hand said nothing but a whole ass speech that started with him being mad at Leo to ending it with comforting words.
In the end, all Leopold could do was cry. He was after all, just a boy.

Leopold: Don’t kill me! I have a sister! Dante: You think I care about that? Leopold: No, this isn’t a plea for mercy. It has a warning. Dante: What? Mereoleona kicking down the door: ARE YOU READY TO DIE?!

Kirsch and Mimosa, please 💚💙🤍
Hi there, Anon-friend! Thank you so much for the request! 🥰 I would absolutely love to write some headcanons about the Flower Vermillion Siblings for you, especially since today is Kirsch's birthday! (Happy Birthday, Kirsch! 🌸) My heart really goes out to all of the problematic fictional sibling relationships, and I tend to get really, really invested in them. Kirsch and Mimosa's strained sibling bond is definitely no exception, and I really hope they get to reconcile and become closer someday. I am a big believer that Mimosa and Kirsch can one day reach an understanding of each other and have a more functional sibling bond in the future, so I am very happy to get to think of some wholesome ideas for these two. 💗
Questions from this "Bye Bye Writer's Block" Headcanons Game
(A/N: This post got a little lengthy so I've put the headcanons below the cut. Warnings: a few vague references to Season 4 content and the Spade Arc, but there are no specific spoilers)
Kirsch and Mimosa Siblings Headcanons
💚-- General
(A/N: I couldn't decide so I've included two)
While Mimosa doesn't talk about her brother much to her squad mates on the Golden Dawn, everyone on the Coral Peacocks squad knows about Mimosa. Kirsch mentions her constantly to the point that Dorothy jokes that Mimosa is their entire squad's "little sister." They all know better to mention it to Mimosa, however, but Mimosa does start to catch on when, surprisingly enough, most of the Coral Peacocks members seem to know a lot of things about her, especially about her achievements which Kirsch talks about the most--the squad assumes it's just part of his usual bragging bravado, but those who know him well know that it's really because he is genuinely proud of his little sister and all of her accomplishments.
Bonus: When Mimosa and Noelle visit Dorothy for tea in her Glamour World once, Dorothy accidentally let's slip that she's made Mimosa's favorite tea, even though Mimosa knows that she's never mentioned it herself. Dorothy knows it's Mimosa's favorite tea because Kirsch always asks for a cup of it himself and always remarks that his sister has impeccable taste.
OR
While Mimosa loved the beautiful fairy tale books that she was given to read as a child, she also loved adventure books. When she started to muddy her dresses and tear holes in her stockings from playing pirates or expeditioners with her cousins in the gardens, however, her family felt that such books weren't appropriate literature for a proper, royal young lady. Kirsch, however, thought this was ridiculous and would sneak all the best adventure books out of the library and slide them under Mimosa's door or hide them in her room so she'd still get to read them.
💙-- Hurt/Comfort
Whenever Kirsch was having a really rough day when he and his sister were growing up, Tiny Mimosa used to sneak down to the kitchen in Castle Vermillion to steal chocolate candies for him. She used to always say that "chocolates make everything better" and would sneak the candies into his room to try to cheer him up. It always managed to bring a smile to his face. In the future, after Mimosa returned following the attack on the Golden Dawn and the Spade Arc, Kirsch was very concerned about his sister and everything she had gone through, but unsure of the best way to express it, he went out and bought the biggest box of chocolates he could find and sent them to her.
🤍-- Fluff
When Mimosa was very little and Kirsch was beginning to learn to use his magic, she used to beg him to make it "rain flowers." He always obliged because he loved to show off how his little sister's face would light up when she danced and skipped around in the sea of petals. There would be several times that Mimosa would reach for his brother's hand and ask him to dance with her too.
Bonus (for extra cavities): In the future, Mimosa's children will beg "Uncle Kirsch" to make it "rain flowers" for them just like their mom used to do when she was their age, and he will take his beloved nieces and nephews out into gardens and watch them giggle and dance around in the petals. Feeling nostalgic, he'll often invite Mimosa to join in the fun and they'll all dance in the "flower rain" together. 🌸

Okay so small black clover rant, not necessarily a negative thing.
I absolutely love Noelle Silva, and one thing I realized while rewatching bc again and again was that (imo) there was a pretty decent setup for Noelle to have been raised by the Vermillions instead, due to how terrible her bio family is.
Explanation!! So we see from the start that Noelle is a fairly aggressive person, and the way she talks about things and announces her intentions is usually incredibly passionate. She might get shy every now and then, bc of how she was raised in Silva palace, but she's aggressive and passionate to her core.
It's very different from her siblings, who are significantly more sophisticated in both the way they fight and how they announce their intentions. They don't say it in a passionate manner, but in a calm and suave way, if that makes sense.
My point here is that there was an opportunity for the creator to make a world wherein Fuego ended up taking Noelle in, as I think her attitude could've been quite compatible with being a Vermillion since they're generally more loud and passionate mages. It would've been a cool concept to see how the Vermillions could have helped Noelle develop and heal from the trauma her bio fam ended up giving her. I think I'm going on a bit of a tangent now but my main point is that they could've used Noelle being raised by Vermillions as an explanation as to why her demeanor is so different from her siblings.
"it's bc she's been outcasted so much her entire life, ofc she'd be different from her siblings." Makes sense, but I think that even though they'd outcasted her, her upbringing or how they taught her to be a 'proper royal' wouldn't have been much different. They'd have taught her to be more suave and all that, and with her upbringing I'd have thought of her to be more quiet and reserved, given how solid and Nebra seem to constantly brush off her attempts at defending herself and how she isn't exactly given much of a right to speak.
Having said that, I think it'd have made more sense for her to be a quieter person as a defense mechanism or smthn.
(not that I have a problem with how she is in canon though!! I love her sm and I'm grateful to Tabata for creating her.)
Now I'm rlly going off track but anyway
Is this mostly because I'm hungry for Noelle and Vermillion siblings interactions, especially after seeing how mereo acts towards Noelle? Yes. Because admit it, them interacting with each other and being so familiar and comfortable with one another would be wonderful, and Noelle deserves that after all the shit she's gone through. That and I want an excuse for her to be closer to her Vermillion cousins.
That's all <33

"You look grumpy." With lee leopold and ler mereoleona and fuegoleon?
YES! 🤩🤩🤩 I’ve gotcha, anon! :)
“You look grumpy.” Mereoleona raised a brow at the currently pouty Leopold. “What’s got you down, little lion?”
“Nothing- I’m just: forget it.” He grumbled as he looked away, the pout he sported growing more distinct. “It’s not important.”
“Hm. He’s definitely grumpy.” Fuegoleon raised an eyebrow from his seat, looking up from his book. “Did training go wrong?”
“No.”
“Did you eat today?” Mereoleona asked. “Sleep? Take a sh-“
“Mereo!”
“What? It can happen!” She rolled her eyes at her brother’s scandalized expression. “Such a prude, ain’t he?”
Leopold didn’t respond, still pouting. Mereoleona bit down a sigh. Usually poking fun at Fuego got at a chuckle. “Alright, what’s really going on?”
“I told you, it’s nothing-“
“Did something happen with your friends?” Fuegoleon asked, his previous embarrassment forgotten. “Did you guys fight?”
“No! We’re fine.” He was irritated now. Interesting.
“So it is your friends.” Mereoleona mused. “Which one, the short one?”
“I told you it’s not them-“
“Is it Yuno?” Fuegoleon asked.
Silence.
“It’s Yuno.” They nodded.
“No, it’s not! He didn’t do anything!” Leopold got up to leave. “Ugh, I’m going to go train. You two are insufferable- wha!”
He had only just gotten past the couch when Fuegoleon reached up and over, pulling him into the seat beside him. “Oh no you don’t! Tell us what’s going on!”
“Let me go! I’m telling you now it’s fine- gahahhahahahhaha!” Leopold burst into giggles upon feeling fingers press into his sides, tickling gently. “Cohohohohome ohohohohon! Nohohoho tihihihickling!”
“Yes tickling!” Mereoleona joined the pair, reaching down and squeezing the younger boys knees, making him cackle. “When are you gonna learn you can’t hide anything from us, little lion?”
Leopold was a mess of giggles, squirming about as he made half hearted attempts to push his siblings away. “Ahehahahahhaha! Mehehehhehereehheo! Fuehehehehhego! Stahhahahap Ihihihihit!”
“Are you gonna tell us what’s wrong? Fuegoleon asked, smiling down gently as the squealing redhead. “Promise?” Mereoleona teases when he nodded rapidly.
“Ihihihihi prohohohomise!” He cried out, sucking down greedy breaths when the pair finally ceased. His cheeks were red, and his vision was misty. “Ahehhahahaha…Hehehahaha…mehehhean!” He huffed as he slid to the floor, making the others laugh.
“Necessary though.” Mereoleona poked his belly. “Talk.”
“Ah! Ohohokay Ohohokay!” Leopold took a breath as he composed himself, looking down at his hands. “It is Yuno…but he didn’t do anything to me.” Leopold quickly clarified. “It’s just…we’re friends.”
The older Vermillions looked at one another, perplexed. “Friends?” Fuegoleon asked.
“Just…friends.” Leopold’s face burned. He pulled at his cuffs, hoping they would get it.
“Oooooooh.” Realization hit them like a truck, sharing a look as they considered what was said. “You like him, huh?” Mereoleona clarified, earning a small nod from Leopold. “Okay then. Ask him out.”
“I can’t! What if he doesn’t feel the same?” Leopold waved his hands, suddenly shy. “I’d just embarrass myself.”
“With the way he looks at you, I don’t think there’s any question about it.” Mereoleona mused, making Leopold gawk. “What? You didn’t notice?”
“If what she says is true, Leo.” Fuegoleon smiled softly at his brother. “Then you should go for it. Rejection is a possibility, not a guarantee. Don’t give up until you’ve tried.”
Leopold considered what his siblings said, his heart racing a mile a minute. Finally, he smiled, jumping to his feet. “Your right! I’m gonna do it!” He nodded to the pair. “Thank you. And uh…sorry, for being a grump earlier.” He bowed before dashing away, leaving the others chucking softly. “That’s our Leo.” Fuegoleon shook his head kindly.
“A Vermillion through and through.”
