I know it’s because of a combination of the Teen Titans cartoon’s Apprentice arc and fandom’s general focus on Bats to the exclusion of all other characters, but if you want to write messy, fucked-up fic about Deathstroke and one of the Titans being caught up in a complicated dynamic of loving and hating and desiring and pursuing each other and fucking other people as proxy, it should 100% be Gar, not Dick.

Like. Slade and Dick just fight each other. Gar tried to kill Slade for sleeping with his girlfriend and wound up going on a date with him instead and then became obsessed with him and sometimes they held hands and cried while Slade was grievously injured and then Slade started trying to kill him again out of nowhere and Gar felt really betrayed. Slade and Steve Dayton are like basically wholesome golf buddies for all of the 90s while Gar is slinking around being possessed and wearing a vest with no shirt underneath. There is SO MUCH canon with so many weird dynamics to explore!

And yet there are over 2,000 SlaDick fics on AO3 and only 8 Beaststroke. Pathetic.

Victor Stone

First Impression:

Y’know, on the outside he can be so snarky & gruff, especially around people he doesn’t know that well or when he’s fighting bad guys, but underneath that he has such a warm heart

Impression Now:

He’s such a warm & loving man. I wish he could see himself the way his loved ones do. Also, in the soap opera that was NTT, he was one of the more down-to-earth & level-headed characters so overall I see him as a very balancing presence among the Titans

Favorite Moment:

The time when he found out Sarah Simms had a boyfriend & then took some time to cool down before they talked it out & decided to still be friends. Vic hadn’t pursued a relationship with her even though they had a connection because of his insecurities & instead of getting more angry with himself about it, he was honest with her about his feelings & let himself move on. He approaches confrontation in a sincere & respectful way that I really admire

Idea for a Story:

Vic as the designated leader of the team for a Titans book. I think he did a really great job running things right after Dick was rescued from the Chruch of Blood & Donna said she didn’t want to lead anymore. In my eyes, the only reason he didn’t take over when Dick started going off the rails right before moving on from Robin is that he was going through personal stuff & he had the self-awareness to tell Donna he wasn’t in the headspace for it when she suggested he lead. He’s well respected within the Titans, he isn’t afraid to be upfront with people about their behavior, and it’s pretty difficult to get him rattled in a fight. I’d love there to be an entire (specifically Titans) series that explores what leadership means to Vic & how being in that role would affect him

Unpopular Opinion:

I don’t ship VicGar. I see them as best friends & I’d like Vic to be in a relationship with either a civilian character or with another Titan that isn’t like a brother to him the way that Gar is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Favorite Relationship:

Vic and his grandparents! They’re fun, funky people, especially his grandma Maude. I love that when they see him for the first time in years they don’t bat an eye over him being a cyborg. After his parents died, he found a family in the Titans, but he also found a new connection with his grandparents when he let go of the judgements his father had made & let them into his life

Favorite Headcanon:

He uses the technical know how he got from being Silas’ son to design assistive technology & makes sure that the devices don’t cost a dime for the people that need them
