Bean. The struggle with writing is real and should never be downplayed. It’s a struggle many of us experience at some point, so it’s important to have people around you to say that, hey, what you feel is valid but also untrue at some level because your brain is being an asshole.

When you reread stuff you wrote, you remember what you went though writing it. How this sentence used to be longer, that one was in passive voice and the other one didn’t even exist. You know the bare bones and experience what you felt in the moment when the idea wouldn’t come, when the words wouldn’t cooperate.

Those who read your writing don’t know any of that. The get the end product that they enjoy, very true in your case because your writing IS good and interesting and I know, from being in discord, that you have tons of great ideas and the way you can tell them.

There is no way to just stop feeling what you feel but those who know you can stop the train of thoughts that make you feel miserable. And we don’t say just because, we say it because it’s true.

One last piece of advice, if I can call it that. I struggle a lot with similar things, words, pace and all that. And I get really angry at myself, to the point where I get self-destructive. An outlet to let it all out is important. Because when I finally stop to wallow in self-pity, I turn to the thing that fuels me most — spite.

I know how it sounds but consider this. I tell myself to create, if not out of love, than out of spite. I say fuck it, my stories will get out there, I will make myself matter in a way of writing; I will challenge myself and win it out of spite. Because if my brain is my enemy, then I will fight it with all I got.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, it literally means so much to me and I am sending you the biggest hug right now.

At this point I love the idea of writing to prove everyone (and myself) wrong, like even if my ideas aren’t good, or my writing isn’t polished, or whatever… like even if people don’t like it, it’s more important that I enjoyed it for what it was, and that maybe someone out there would like it as much as I do. Even if the whole world thinks my writing sucks, if there’s one person who likes it, that should be enough for me. I think I’m going to try and work on that mindset so it’s not as upsetting to me when things happen to make me think I’m just terrible ♥️

can I offer an idea (once discussed in the Strollonso server) about pro surfer Lance and old, jaded ex pro Fernando?? With the recent video of Lance surfing and being soooo cute and happy… imagine Lance arrives to Australia in order to train, get better, and he meets this shady guy who basically owns a shack on the beach and rents surfs to tourists. Others had told Lance about a local legend and how that nameless surfer perished in the waves one day…. Lance getting up at 4 to catch the early waves and kinda getting a bad fall. Weird Beach Guy (Fernando) helps him out, reluctantly wraps his bleeding hand (Lance cut it on the piece of stone while he was tumbling in the waves or smth). Fernando begrudgingly tells Lance that he’s not balancing himself correctly and Lance goes “oh? you surf?” And Fernando gets this haunted look on his face but then smirks. “Don’t get yourself killed while you’re this young,” he says, clapping Lance on the shoulder and walking back to his lonely shack…. Lance is infinitely intrigued. Even more so when he takes Fernando’s advice and balances himself the other way. The competition is in two weeks… so Lance seeks Fernando out to get some guidance…….

then sexual tension, bonding, Lance earning Fernando’s trust, paddling together into the waves etc etc Lance seeing Fernando’s horrible surfing injury (the missing titty) and then the big climax is Lance learning that Fernando is that perished legend (actually alive!!) and maybe something happens during the competition but they certainly fuck o right on the beach at least once. But fucking happens only after Big Hangups and Issues are resolved + the good old age gap thing etc etc

Pierre can count on one hand the number of calls he's gotten from Charles' friend Joris – which is why it's quite a surprise when he opens his phone and sees not one, not two, but three missed calls from "Joris Trouche 🇲🇨".

After nearly twenty years of knowing each other (not to mention just over two years of dating) Pierre likes to think that he knows Charles pretty well by now.

When Pierre's doorbell rings in the middle of the night, he knows who it is before he's even rolled out of bed.

Pierre Gasly, fan favourite member of the international smash hit boyband One Formula, is late.

"Do you know," Pierre says, thoughtfully, "that kissing is supposed to help with stress relief?"

There is something haunted in the paddock after Suzuka.

HMMM! well, the first thing i can see is that i really, really like pierre gasly, and want to talk about him first thing, apparently... i am charles? (🤭)

in all seriousness, though - there doesn't seem to be any real pattern of sentence length or even sentence type. it all depends very much on the fic in question, and what kind of vibe i'm trying to get at? idk - this is a difficult one!! i tend to have a pretty clear vision of where i want the fic to go, and i need the first line to prepare for that vision - like the shock factor of the "pierre gasly bond breaker" one, for example, or the immediate oh this is going to be a fic about FWB vibes of "do you know that kissing is supposed to help with stress relief?" looking back on it, i do think that some of these first lines are more... striking, perhaps, than others? but all of them set the tone for the rest of the fic in some way, which is the most important thing. (some of them actually need the second & third lines as well to make a bit more sense, but it's okay!!) it was definitely SUPER interesting to take a look back at my last 10 first lines 📝👀
