WESTERN MEDIA, THE EARTHQUAKE AND POLITICS
youtube
Minute 17, a shot of Syrian civilians looking at the dead bodies of their relatives. Voiceover: "this area is controlled be rebels. The Syrian government in Damascus regards them as terrorists, who should not receive international humanitarian aid", shot of civilians again. Follows interview of Faisal Mekdad, Syrian Foreign Minister, saying "we must ensure this aid doesn't reach terrorists and militants in the areas they control. The international community must be aware of this in the context of its declared war on terror". Cut, voiceover "Unlike the Syrian government, nature doesn't distinguish who lives in one or the other side of the front line".
The earthquake hit regime-held areas and rebel-held areas. The regime-held areas (see Lattaquia, Aleppo, Tartus) are being controlled by the oppressive Syrian regime. The rebel-held areas are being controlled by Islamist rebels, that's why they are called rebel-held. Now apart from the rebels who control the areas, there are millions of civilians in those areas. The Syrian regime made a pact with the rebels in some areas so that they can reach the civilians and evacuate them to safety (to regime held areas away from the earthquake zone), as long as the regime rescuers are not military. So the Syrian regime sent the Syrian Arab Red Crescent rescuers (controlled by the regime) in many rebel-held areas, since the beginning. The Syrian regime also sent some Algerian rescuers that arrived to help in rebel held areas. Here you can see the Syrian Arab Red Crescent rescuer along with the Algerian rescuer in black in Idleb, a rebel-held zone :
Tumblr media
Of course, none of this has been confirmed. We have no way to confirm it. But Syrian citizens in Jableh (a regime held city) have been reportedly receiving people from Idleb (a rebel held city). How did they arrive? Someone evacuated them.
But this Chanel 4 "reportage" doesn't mention any of that, not even the claims, nothing. This reportage, by not making a clear distinction between the civilians and the Islamist rebels, has us believe that the regime actually doesn't want international aid to reach the civilians, which is in direct contrast to what actually happened. But that does not serve our Western agenda of painting the Syrian regime as the absolute monsters that hinder any possible aid, which means that the decision to not send aid is not our conscious decision, we wanted to send aid but oops we can't and the Syrian regime is to blame. How fucking convenient.
The Syrian regime has also been employing the army in its own areas also since the beginning, at the same time when Erdogan was withholding the army for "political reasons", the same Erdogan that the Western media portrays oh so neutrally positively because in every single article on Turkey you can find his statement trying to justify himself : "no one could have been prepared for a catastrophe like this". I didn't see articles mentioning the clear favouritism (that many Turkish citizens have denounced) between areas with dense Kurdish/Syrian population and other areas, with the former receiving the least of help. I didn't see any article mentioning the fact that Erdogan had left greek rescuers alone without instructions for HOURS, losing valuable time, I didn't see an article mentioning that he initially refused the aid coming from Cyprus. Did you? I do not know if these are accurate, but these have been denounced by Turkish citizens and one would expect they would at least be mentioned as claims by our Western media. But no. It is lovely to have neutral pro-Erdogan journalism, isn't it? But of course, the Syrian regime are the only big monsters here, so that we can justify not doing JACK SHIT to help Syrian people. Real people, that are dying, right now as we speak.
In line with this carefully and oh so subtly constructed "reportage", multiple online newspapers say that international aid has been hindered by the Syrian regime, because the Syrian regime demanded that all aid passes from the capital, Damascus, first. I do not know if this is accurate, but if it is, I have a great difficulty understanding why exactly that is so shocking. Syria is in war and divided. Syria has an official government, that obviously wants to control the operations, and on the other hand you have militia that control the other side of Syria. While it is horrible that this situation exists in the first place, I fail to see how this could justify not sending help at all. Also, I fail to see how this statement could be true since the airport of Aleppo, a regime-held city, has already received international aid from Syrian allies. So why should western aid pass from Damascus? Spoiler alert, it doesn't have to. International aid can arrive at any airport of the Syrian official state if they want to help Syrian people, of course, that are right now dying or freezing/starving to death in regime held areas too. Thousands of them. But to put it simply, western countries do not give a flying fuck about the thousand of dead people in the regime controlled areas, and the millions of homeless (they don't give a fuck about rebel held areas either, if they did they would have done something). These people do not exist for them. Logic : as long as the regime is playing favourites (LMAO) we are not doing a damn thing, so the will ALL DIE.
The West cannot care to save human lives if the terms and the conditions are problematic. In that case, it's perfectly okay to let everyone die. Equality in death y'all.
Yes, the Syrian Foreign Minister is a piece of shit for saying that we have to make sure help doesn't reach the Islamist rebels, at this time of absolute catastrophe, but hey, so are our leaders and journalists, that say that we have to make sure help doesn't reach the Syrian regime. They are playing politics on people's lives. They are the same kind of disgraceful, but at least we have some evidence that the Syrian regime is in fact helping its citizens in the rebel areas.
What we know for sure is that no western country has done a damn thing.

The Syrian and Russian operations in the northeast of Syria are going well. Russian troops prevented attempts by Turkish supported Jihadis to attack Manbij. Russian and Syrian units now also entered Ayn al-Arab/Kobani. Syrian government troops took control of the electricity producing dam in Tabqah and some units set up posts in Raqqa. Other units entered the Conoco and Al-Umar oil fields north of Abu Kahmal and east of Deir Ezzor.... The Turkish command has called up more irregular 'rebel' troops including Jihadis from Jaish al-Islam who had once controlled Ghouta in the east of Damascus. They had been transported to Idleb after their defeat. A video shows them on a bus traveling through Turkey to reinforce the Turkish attack. The Russian air force in Syria is preventing the use of the Turkish air-force in support of the Turkish attacks. Yesterday a Turkish F-16 entered Syrian air space but retreated when some Russian fighters appeared to hunt for it.... The mainstream borg is up in arms that Turkey uses Jihadis to attack their beloved anarcho-marxist PKK terrorists group. They have conveniently forgotten the history of the U.S. war on Syria, its arming of those Jihadis and its pampering of al-Qaeda. The U.S. did not betray the Kurds any more than it betrayed Turkey and the Jihadis which the Obama administration armed throughout the war. Those were also U.S. 'allies' that were left hanging.... Everyone involved recognizes that this is a win-win-win-win situation. Erdogan could show that he was fighting against the PKK terrorists and prevented their attempts to become a proto-state. Trump could hold his campaign promise of removing U.S. troops from useless foreign interventions. Syria regained its northeast and the important economic resources of that area. Russia gained global prestige and additional influence in the Middle East.

Syria's civil war has now been going on for 10 years, but our friends at Syria Relief & Development haven't stopped responding to the humanitarian crisis!
Below is a profile of one of the children helped by their efforts:
"Anas Al-Ali, 12, lives with his mother and siblings in Talal Camp near Harbanoush in Idleb’s northern countryside, #Syria. He is paralyzed in his lower limbs, confining him to their small tent. Anas’ father was killed in the war. Afterwards, his mother was unable to provide him with the things he needed, such as diapers, clothing, or a wheelchair. His mental health suffered as a result of this, as well as his lack of social connections.
"Anas was discovered by the Syria Relief & Development Emergency Team while visiting the Talal Camp. After meeting with Anas’ mother, the team designed an action plan to improve his quality of life. His recovery included psychosocial counseling sessions and awareness sessions for his caregivers. A wheelchair, clothing, and diapers were given to him in collaboration with the Physical Therapy Center in Idleb and the Shafak Organization.
"Anas now has the opportunity to grow up in a healthy way outside of the confines of a crowded tent."

Syria categorically denies using any poisonous gases in Khan Sheikhoun or in any other city or village, affirming that the Syrian Arab army doesn’t possess any form of the chemical weapons, a source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on Tuesday. The source added in a statement to SANA that the choir of the armed terrorist groups which are active in Khan Sheikhoun, and the western and regional sides which support them and their affiliated media, have circulated news about an attack with poisonous gases on Khan Sheikhoun city in Idleb province. “As usual and since four years, those sides have fabricated fake accusations against the armed forces in the Syrian Arab Republic,” the statement said. It added that Syria affirms it has carried out all its obligations towards the Chemical Weapons Convention (OPCW) since it joined the treaty in 2013. “That new campaign comes after the achievements gained by the Syrian Arab army and the backing forces in the war against terrorism during the last days and weeks, in addition, those fabrications come prior to the convening of an EU meeting tomorrow about Syria in order to launch an attack on the country and justify the hostile resolutions that will be adopted in this meeting,” the Foreign Ministry said.

It would be inexcusable if the excuse for the lack of effective diplomacy on Idleb & Syria is "battle fatigue”. This conflict is 100% manmade, and can be 100% unmade by man. High time for countries with influence to get warring parties to the peace table. https://t.co/r0NKNlJxd3

There have been few significant movements during the last weeks. The war on Syria slowly grinds towards its end. The political tussle continues as ever. U.S. Secretary of Defense Mattis made a curious announcement of plans he can not fulfill.

Syria: Seven civilians killed in regime bombings in Idleb
Tumblr media
Beirut (AFP) - Seven civilians were killed on Friday in Syrian bombings of Idleb province, the highest figure since a Russian-Turkish agreement came into force to prevent the regime from attacking the country. northwestern region of Syria at war. Three children are among those killed in a village in Syria's last big insurgent stronghold, located in the north-west of the country, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) said. Russia, ally of the regime of Bashar al-Assad, and Turkey, support of the rebels, agreed on September 17 in Sochi (Russia) of the establishment of a "demilitarized zone" in the region of Idleb. This buffer zone aims to separate the areas under the regime's control from those still held by rebels or jihadists, to avoid an offensive by the army, which would risk according to the UN to provoke a "humanitarian catastrophe". Hayat group Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), from the former Syrian branch of Al Qaeda, controls most of the region's sectors that are beyond the regime's control. Friday's deadly bombing hit the village of Al-Rifa, under HTS control, in south-eastern Idleb province. In the neighboring province of Aleppo, there have been clashes between regime fighters and rebels on the western outskirts of Aleppo, the OSDH reported. Under the Sochi agreement, the jihadists had to withdraw from the planned demilitarized zone, but this had not been done by the October 15 deadline set for this purpose. The sporadic bombing that has taken place since then has seen a major escalation on Wednesday night. Shelling by government forces killed a girl in Kafr Hamra, a town in Aleppo province in the planned buffer zone, said the OSDH. The rocket fire of jihadists but also rebels backed by Turkey hit the northern city of Aleppo, injuring 10 people. Russia and Turkey said the agreement was still in force despite the expiry of the deadline for the withdrawal of insurgents. Leaders of both countries are due to meet with their French and German counterparts at a summit on Syria scheduled for Saturday in Istanbul. The Syrian regime insists that the buffer zone agreement is temporary and that Illeb would eventually return to government control. On Friday, the Syrian representative to the UN, Bashar Jaafari, repeated it again in statements reproduced by the official Sana news agency. "It is normal for the Syrian state to fight terrorism in Idleb to rid its inhabitants of terrorism and extend its sovereignty," he said. Read the full article
