I watched The Watchowski Sisters' Speed Racer movie for the first time last night and holy shit I'm not exagerating when i say this is a fucking masterpiece and might be one of my favorite movies I've ever seen. It's like the antithesis of everything I hate about modern franchise/adaptation movies; its so creative, full of life and color and artistic intent. Every shot and edit feels so purposeful and crafted with passion and care, with no regard for cynicism or people thinking it might look dumb or "cringe". It's an ode to artistic passion in an age where creativity is filtered through profit motive and all art, from the smallest independent creator to the biggest franchise blockbuster, has to be sold to survive; that even in those conditions the passion of the artist can still break through and effect peoples lives for the better.
The Wachowskis' works, regardless of quality, have always dreamt of a better world, and I'm not bullshitting when I say the gaudy CGI car racing movie with a poo-throwing monkey is the type of art that makes me believe that world can exist.

Height chart for the Sonics and Scourge of Uncle au!
Scarfs (boom sonic), Shift (Classic sonic), Buck/Blue (modern sonic) and Watchowski (movie sonic) are the 4 Sonics.
Scarfs and Shift aren’t super involved in the au like Buck/Blue is. Shift is busy dealing with problems on his own world, and Scarfs is enjoying early retirement. I’ll be posting individual introduction pages for them soon.

What do you think happened to Rusty Rose in Sonic Prime? Man, if the Watchowskis(did I spell it right?) met her, they’d be so heartbroken for the poor kid.
She said it was for survival.
My theory is that one of the members of CC took pity on her for some reason while she begged for her life while he home was destroyed and she tried to fight back without any fighting experience.
Already injured fatally, they decided that they would let her live on the basis that she would work for them.
Amy didn’t know she would become a cyborg who can’t break through programming.
(The Wachowskis would feel so sad for her. They wanna know if they can help her. Tails is trying to find a permanent way to bring back her sentience!)

ok, let me vent a bit...
So, I am comign back at university to study Cinema and Audiovisual, right!
My favourite movie is The Matrix 1999, it shaped me in every way.
After watching The Matrix Ressurection I felt really happy to see the movie, but I knew deep inside of me that the movie wasn't all great, but the message is AMAZING tho. I love how the Sister always brings this type of message which surrounds about "LOVE", to me this is important because in my "religious" believes that's the base of everything is love.
I feel bad for not liking the Ressurections as I did with the first movie, in the aspect of technical and storytelling it was lacking for me. But I truly love the movie. When you study movies it doesn't go easy as just entertainment, it goes as piece of art as well, so when not reached this level of endeavour it is difficult to enjoy a movie because you know the certain problems when you see the work.
I am in no means trying to say this to diminish the work, because Ressurection smash a lot of commercial and non commercial movies tho. I believe it just doesn't bring the originallity in technicallity and storytelling as did in the Matrix 1999. Which is fine, but to me is sad because I was waiting to feel something, to be encourage and to be inspired and mostly a live change.
The Watchowski sister has no obligatoriness towards me, and I was happy with the fourth movie whatsoever.

On the Knuckles series announcement:
Tumblr media
Okay first of all, obviously I'm happy to see that hat return.
And more Maddie ofc.
But I'm worried about the plot. Not because of how much game lore we'll get referenced or how well they'll pull of the premise of "Iconic Character trains Comic Relief Character That Was Okay I Guess in the ways of the warrior, hijinx ensue" but because I'm worried I'm getting bored of the Sonic Cinematic Universe.
This is an entirely subjective criticism, so just know this is more of a vent than a real criticism post.
That said, as much as I liked the first movies for what they were able to do right, I feel like these movies are being held back by their attempts to mesh the creator's passion for the games with the studios' need to make it a basic funny animal movie series.
It's not offensively bad as the Peter Rabbit movies which had the charm of the source material gutted to make a James Corden vehicle, but it feels like it's got the same symptoms. The feeling like somebody feels it would be more marketable to focus on Sonic characters interacting with our world than fully indulging in Sonic's world. Something that I'm more willing to blame on Paramount execs than anybody onboard the creative team for the record.
I do think that part of this disappointment is me and some folks hoping that Knuckles was going to get a dedicated character study like Peacemaker or The Mandalorian (but with a red echidna), but without drawing unfair comparisons... Sonic Prime is doing it better?
Maybe not as a Knuckles show, but Sonic Prime while definitely made more for the fans and rushed because of the binge model curse is unapologetic about being about Sonic. The story is about Sonic, the characters of Sonic's world, and Sonic's world itself. It's written by people who love the games and want to make stories about the world of the games!
It doesn't feel the need to dress it up as a mid cgi animal buddy comedy thinking this will somehow make it more approachable to non-fans, or to hold back the stuff the fans came for with run-of-the-mill human characters.
(Alright, I'm going to just come out and say it: the Watchowski's are really nice in theory, but in execution they're a pretty average family.)
Well now that I've probably gone below the belt, now's the part where I remind everyone that you're welcome to enjoy what you like, and the show isn't even out yet so any real attempts to critique it are moot.
...
That and I don't have Paramount+ yet and I don't want it, so. Yeah. That's bit of a turn off, too.

A younger friend of mine just pointed out to me that The Matrix is technically an LGBT movie since the creators are both trans women and it features a character named Switch who, in the original script, was a Girl in The Matrix but a Boy in The Real World and I
I mean he’s totally right, my friend. And it goes past that. The whole movie is about questioning fundamental elements of your world; your identity. Do you know who you are? What you are? Do you know what’s Real? Do you even understand what Real means?
They really had to pad it with a lot of gunplay to get it Produced, and they didn’t get the final cut they wanted, but the Watchowskis were really determined to Free our Minds, huh?

Matrix Even More Reloaded
1) There was a time when Keanu Reeves wasn't the most loved guy on the Internet and everyone made jokes about how stiff his acting was. The original comment I made for this comic was guilty of that sin, too. How times has changed! 2) Also, the Watchowski sisters didn't had come out publicly as trans at the time, but I guess there was something to read there in The Matrix if I came up with this idea. XD 3) Two points were not enough, so this is point three. Originally Published: Jun 11, 2011

You mention that James Somerton is transphobic but aside from misgendering Nate Stevenson and Rebecca Sugar that one time I'm not sure what you mean can you explain
I mean, that is what I'm talking about, but it goes deeper than that. Cause like, the point he was making isn't...ENTIRELY bad? There's a lot of complexity to it, and it ties into issues of tokenism and the male gaze and fetishization vs. representation, but there is an actual discussion to be had about how queer women are portrayed in media, and by who, as opposed to how queer men are portrayed. He is filtering it through his usual biases, so he's not really diving into the complexity, but there is a real point there.
But the thing is...why go to Nate Stevenson and Rebecca Sugar for that point? Like, if you wanna talk about queer women being allowed to depict themselves in their art, you don't need to misgender Nate and Rebecca to do that. Céline Sciamma, Jambie Babbit, Angela Robinson, Cheryl Dunye, Clea DuVall, Chantal Akerman, Dee Rees, Donna Deitch, do you see my point? Both Alice Wu and the Watchowskis had stuff about queer women on Netflix, the same platform She-Ra is on. He could have named other names.
Now, I do admit some of that might be playing to his audience, and also playing into my point about him being a discoursed poisoned online queer person; Both his audience and queer people who I feel are overdosing on discourse tend to lean towards kiddy shit more than other stuff and a lot of the names I named make artier stuff for adults. And finding those names would take an ounce of research (like, I dunno, browsing down the list of The L-Word directors on wikipedia and looking for women) and their gender identities had to take a back seat to his laziness.
And that's transphobia.

Concept: the Watchowski Brothers doing the "Three Kids in a Trenchcoat" bit to try to get into a movie. Knuckles is the legs, Sonic the body, and Tails the head. They almost get into the movie, but then the cashier asks why they have an orange face, blue arms, and red legs.
Tails, in a fake deep voice: uhh... its laundry day? This is all I had to wear.
Sonic, under the Trenchcoat and trying to stage whisper: No wait-- tell him it's a skin condition!
Box office Attendant: Did your gut just talk?
Knuckles, speaking at full volume to be heard from beneath the counter: Do not listen to your gut, brother! Your explanation was better--
Sonic, now whisper-shouting: No it's not! It calls attention to the trenchcoat!
Box office Attendant: I'm just going to go get a manager...
Sonic: Dang, we should have planned this better...
Tails: The plan was to let me talk!

Yo I have a really cool idea for Chaos if they were in the sonic movieverse (there’s gonna be spoilers under the cut tho)
You know how Longclaw was hiding the master emerald and the echidnas killed her in the first movie right? And the echidnas never came back but we never got a reason why and I doubt Longclaw was able to oof them all before she died.
well I have an idea where the master emerald broke while Longclaw was fighting the echidnas and Knuckles’ dad was the one about to kill Longclaw, and she was shielding the chaos emeralds from the echidnas. And if I remember correctly, Tikal said chaos is power enriched by the heart.
the chaos emeralds felt Longclaw’s emotions and wish to protect Sonic from the echidnas and to watch over them, and as Knuckles’ father was stabbing Longclaw, they merged the two together as the master emerald reformed. And with 2 people becoming trapped in the emerald, there was a blast of chaos energy which killed the rest of the echidnas.
The chaos blast teleported the emerald to where the sacred temple was, to hopefully hide it away from anyone trying to use its powers for evil. And also because earth was where Sonic was warped to.
And later, in the second movie when the master emerald breaks again, instead of Sonic going super, the chaos emeralds come together and form a single crystalline body for Longclaw and Knuckles’ dad.
they stop the foot of Robotnik’s robot with their arm and thrust it back into the air, making the robot stumble. Both Longclaw and Knuckles’ dad had been trapped in the emerald for years, so they’re very confused and don’t know what’s happening, so they try to take out their anger and confusion onto the robot. Basically what happened with Super Sonic but with Chaos instead.
When the robot is finally destroyed by them, Sonic runs over to the fusion and trips. Longclaw takes control of their body and catches Sonic. There’s a moment where they just stare at each other, trying to process just… each other existing. And in that moment, Sonic realized who this random crystal guy actually was.
Big reunion happens both with Sonic, Knuckles and their supposedly dead parental figures and they move into the Watchowski household.
but yeah that’s all I got. :)

Hi I read your recent fiction Sheriff Prower and the Mystery of the Silver Mine. Seeing that it's the 1st part of your new series got me excited. I don't have an actual question. Only a theory and a headcanon I need to get out of my head. Sorry if it's too long. The theory is that what appeared to be the cool adventurous campfire story was once just a fantasy as a part of coping mechanism long before Tails discovered Sonic.
It seems very fitting for a child like Tails to imagine himself in a world where he plays an important life changing role. This story may have included the miner boss, the bandit, himself as sheriff and his imaginary friend as a deputy. They were initially all imaginary fellow foxes (possibly all single-tailed). He imagined himself as sheriff respected by locals despite his strange "sickness". Always there for "his people", capable of solving dificult problems, dissolving disputes, catching bandits even making "unlikely friends" whether they were moles or a misunderstood bandit who never got a chance to be anything else. The bandit was originally depicting his self from reality.
Characters in the stories started changing or visually developing after Tails discovered Sonic and the company he kept. Since Tails' story had anti-heros and misunderstood people instead of villains, Eggman never made an appearance in the cast :D . But who was Sonic in the story? Could it have been deputy at first? Maybe? But how about giving this imaginary friendship more development? Let's just give him the role of a bandit. The bandit had that hidden side of him that was either rarely seen or blindly ignored due to him being different to the point he accepted the role of the bad guy out of sulk and started living by it. He started a gang. He mugged and robbed people and property, caused mischief wherever he went, but the good side of him hadn't died on him yet. It showed itself when it came to taking care of his fellow gang members. He was never fan of killing, or hurting. He saved people's lives on an occasion. Of course he had to rob them afterwards just to ensure that his gang doesn't see him as a softie, but somehow they knew. That's probably why they remained loyal to him. He wasn't just a cheerful and fun company, but they also knew they can trust him with their own lives.
When he was captured during the earthquake and he was alone, he had nothing to prove to anyone and was allowed to be his true self, the hero who saved the villigers. Unfortunately he wasn't careful enough. Sheriff noticed him. His reputation was threatened. His gang must never find out that he saved the villigers and didn't rob them. He would lose all the respect of his gang. Or so he believed. Gotta keep up the bad act. Maybe driving the deputy crazy might be a good start. But it wasn't fooling officer Prower. He was given a chance to prove himself. He still tried to be hard to be trusted, but his heart kept betraying him especially when he saw an injuired mole mom. That's when he completely broke character he created out of sulk so many years ago. He tried to refuse to help the moles after offering it earlier, but he cursed himself when he saw that it was already too late. Luckily only sheriff, deputy, miner and moles were the only witnesses. His gang doesn't need to know. He can't go straight! What will happen to his gang, if he does? He has people to take care of. But will they accept who he is on the inside? (he doesn't know they know). That makes the transition from bandit to a hero all the more difficult. But the sheriff (main hero) sees to it. And in the end they become good friends.
This improves Tails' fantasy because it involves him and Sonic becoming friends. Later when he becomes part of Watchowski family along with Knuckles, the role of deputy is for obvious reasons played by Knuckles.
Honestly, I adore when readers see so much more symbolism in my stories than I do!
Everything you said makes so much sense. Tails absolutely would make up stories with himself as the respected hero to distract from his life as an outcast.
And the duality in the Blue Bandit's station in life really makes sense. He's not a bad guy, not really, but like says "helping people don't put food in my belly". He does what's necessary to take care of his gang.
Thank you for this! Really made my day. I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

Wow, First I get told that I 'twisted things' on my post about Maddie not being a good mom, and making it clear that Racheal's ire with the family has more basis in Tom Watchowski than any other characters, they have the nerve to block me before I could even clear up what I meant!
And they even said I was a redditor with how I write.
Whatever. I made my points clear as to why I think the way I do enough. If they want to live in a deluded bubble where bad writing is 'good', then fine. Let them live deludedly.
