Why Crusty is the Legit Worst: A Masterpost

So I mentioned a while ago in an ask that I could make an entire masterpost dedicated to why Crusty is the legit worst... and here it is. This is going to be a very long post, so bear with me.

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?

1. The racist/fatphobic/xenophobic tweets

Much before 5sos was involved, Crusty was one of those wannabe LA influencer/model people who tweeted shit like this:

Now, apparently she’s claimed that these tweets were faked and never apologized for them, but then again, when does she ever sincerely apologize? Oh wait, never. So, were these tweets faked or not? Well...

There are responses to the tweets on the left. Here are the responses to the top left one:

Jac Vanek was one of Crusty’s old friends. They’ve been photographed and tagged in the same photos together. So, sure, people could have found out they were friends and faked the tweet/response to the tweet. However, 1. how and why would anybody go that far, and 2. if you look closely, the screenshot with the other deleted tweets and the screenshot with the response look like they were on different phones (the emoji, font, spacing between the letters/lines). Two different phones, eh? It’s almost like the tweet was real and could be seen on multiple platforms! Wow!

In addition, the tweet was sent out on February 8, 2013. Here’s another response to the supposed fake tweet:

Same date, eh? And only less than an hour later! Who would go through so much trouble to fake the tweet, the responses, and even get it down to the dates that the responses were sent out?

Back to the first screenshot of all of her tweets:

The bottom left one had some responses too! Here they are:

Same date, a couple minutes later. Seriously, who would take the time to fake the responses down to the dates and times? It’s almost like... the tweet was real! *gasps*

Now, this response could possibly be one to the bottom right tweet:

The only reason why I’m unsure of this one is because the time the response was sent out was three hours prior to the actual tweet, not to mention the month of the tweet isn’t really distinguishable in the screenshot. Even so, the response looks pretty nasty, and I’m sure it was to an equally nasty tweet from Crusty.

Now, I can’t find proof of the top right tweet being fake or real, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was, considering she has no problem saying “sleazy foreigners.” Of course, obviously, these tweets were deleted, which brings me to my next point.

2. She deletes tweets whenever she gets backlash, doesn’t apologize, and plays the victim card.

So back in September, she had a pretty epic Twitter meltdown (which is still up, she didn’t delete it), where she basically guilt tripped her entire audience, whether they “hated” on her or not.

Uhhh... sure. I agree that you never know what someone is going through, but 1. these “trolls” you see are usually fans with valid opinions and reasons as to why they don’t like you, 2. the constant use of ‘do you want to do this’ or ‘do you want to be that’ is playing the victim card so hard and blaming literally anyone who reads the tweet, making them feel guilty, otherwise known as guilt tripping. Y’know, something that emotional manipulators/abusers do? Yeah, that, and 3. she just HAS to make the whole thing about her. Notice how she says “your words affect me” and puts "and any other person you’re bullying” in parentheses. Notice how she says “you don’t know if I’m depressed, going through trauma, etc.” Notice how she says “do you actually want to inflict pain, hurt, tears, & hate onto me & others?” She tried so hard to be inclusive... and failed. The whole thing is about her, and she just kinda threw in some other terms to make it seem like some kind of positive message for everyone, when in reality, it’s just her being a whiny brat.

Not to mention she just threw Messy into the mix and shaded Arz. Which, lol. Arz was literally her PR client. It’s actually very likely that she was the one who put Arz and Luke together. Hm.

There was the time she pissed off a bunch of Kpop fans when she tweeted this and automatically tried to patch it up:

She probably saw how pissed people got and tried to fix it and make it seem like it was just a joke. Even still, people saw it as being quite fishy, and rightfully so. After all, it probably wasn’t a joke. And then shortly after, like a few weeks or something, she posted a link to a BLACKPINK song or something saying how good the song was. Ooookay.

Then we have the magazine fiasco:

Basically people were angry because a magazine cover came out that featured mostly Luke and the other boys were kinda off to the side. Colliscool is some weirdly famous 5sos fan who is another wannabe LA influencer chick, and of course Crusty is kissing her ass because it makes her look nice. Anyway, if complaining about a magazine cover is “standing up for what you believe in,” what about actually important issues, like racism or homophobia or poverty? It’s a fucking magazine cover. And while it’s hard to hear, Luke is the lead singer, so it only stands to reason why he would be the main feature, tbh. But once Crusty compared fans to Trump, she received backlash, deleted these tweets, and never spoke of it again.

Let’s not forget how a few days later, the whitewashed photo of Calum came out, and people were angrier about that and thought it more important than the magazine cover (which I agree with), and Crusty didn’t say anything on the matter. People were pissed that she complained about the magazine cover and not the whitewashed photo of Calum, but those fans gotta understand that unless it involves Michael, she doesn’t give a shit. I mean, with the past xenophobic/racist tweets... her not saying anything makes sense.

Then there’s the more recent ordeal with Cardi B:

She really thought her backlash was about Mac Miller not winning. And when a fan tried to explain why Cardi B is problematic, she went ahead and played the victim card again. For comparison, here’s how Debby Ryan, Josh Dun’s fiancee, responded:

Not only did she acknowledge her lack of knowledge, she handled the situation by engaging with the people who were educating her, asking them for more information, and thanking them for educating her. Meanwhile, you have Crusty, who’s all like “WELL HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW I’M ONLY HUMAN” and... yes, Crusty, we’re all fucking human, but not all of us are assholes. She likes to tweet, delete, and yeet, as I like to put it.

And I’m going to put this out there for people who might try to argue with me: yes, I spent a good hour scrolling through her twitter to try to find any ounce of proof that she’s a decent person. I did find some rt’s and threads of her talking about mental health and racism (she was talking about the movie the blackkklansman and how it’s revolutionary or something along the lines of that), and she took part in that whole campaign last year to get young people to vote. Here’s the thing: yeah, those are good causes. But it’s really easy to seem like a good person online. It’s so easy to say things and not mean them. Also, just because someone may have liberal viewpoints or morals doesn’t necessarily make them a good person, especially if they don’t outwardly show it, which brings me to my next point.

3. She’s an asshole to fans.

That’s kind of a well-known fact, at least, to the people who can see past her bullshit. She will literally enter group chats with fans, get the twitter names of people who talk bad about her, and block them on her and Michael’s accounts. But of course, because she’s interacting with the fans, she’s seen as a saint because she’s just so sweet!!! And whenever people don’t see that, well, they get blocked. She checks her indirects, obviously, so if you so much as mention her name in a negative way, she and “Michael” will block you. Which is so fucked.

Remember when she was rude to some fans in Bali a few years back? If not, here’s the video. When people saw the video, of course she played the victim card again:

Oh yes, because coming up with a bunch of excuses, mentioning the fact that you’re “crying in lax,” and using a thousand emojis really expresses how guilty you feel. Kiss my entire ass.

But that wasn’t the end of that! When Crusty went to Bali earlier this year, she met up with the very fan she was rude to after she sent the fan this DM:

And of course, the girl fell for her bullshit because she got to meet Michael. She just had to make herself look like such a sweetheart before the big engagement! And sadly, it worked, the fan was happy, and Crusty was seen as a saint once again:

Like... what that person said wasn’t even that bad. Them breaking up is a perfectly plausible situation (if they were actually dating, lol), and yet Crusty literally cussed them out for bringing that up. Oof yikes.

4. The nature of her “relationship” with Michael.

Their first public interaction on Twtiter was back in 2014, when Michael was 18.

This was right before Michael turned 19, so Crusty was 29-30ish (?) at this time (who the fuck knows, I’ll get to that later). It’s not exactly known if she was 5sos’ PR manager, but she was ATL’s, and since 5sos and ATL had worked together, it wouldn’t be surprising if she actually was/is 5sos’ PR manager.

So before Michael, Crusty had been dating a guy named Spencer. Crikey’s timeline starts in January of 2016, where Michael posted this photo of them:

They were “dating” at that time, but neither of them went public until January 2017. However, Crusty continued to consistently interact with her ex Spencer on ig, all the way from January 2016 to May/June 2016, and it started to slow down after that, though she still liked some of his posts here and there. There was even an instance where Spencer sent her flowers in April, which... why would your ex send you flowers???

My belief is that Crusty was still with Spencer at the time she started “dating” Michael, technically cheating on him, and I have an idea in my mind that he probably got sick of it and finally decided to drop her. Which, good for him. After all, she left to be with someone eleven years younger than her just to gain money and fame. Yikes. And apparently there were rumors of her sleeping with Jack from ATL (when she was still with Spencer) when she was their PR manager... she liked to fuck her way to the top and didn’t give a shit about cheating on her boyfriend, I guess.

Now, I know the age gap is a heavily-debated topic, but here’s my stance on it: if the younger party is a full grown adult (I’m talking late twenties/early-mid thirties) when they start dating a person several years older than them, then sure, whatever. They’re basically full-fledged adults who are capable of taking care of themselves and have matured enough to a point where they can make rational decisions for themselves. Michael was twenty years old when he started “dating” Crusty in 2016. People make the argument of “he’s a mature adult he can do whatever he wants!!!” Um... in legal terms, yes, Michael is an “adult,” but twenty is nowhere near the age of maturity. I’m 19, and I know several people around that age, younger and older, who can’t make rational decisions to save their lives. Early adulthood is still a time for growing and figuring things out, and just because Michael is a famous musician doesn’t mean he isn’t still figuring things out. Also... do people know how Michael acted when he was 20? Watch him in interviews, I dare you to call him mature. I’m sure he’s mature in some aspects, but overall, he’s still a young adult who is still in a stage of developing maturity-wise.

So what does this have to do with Crusty? Well, with Michael being 20 when they started “dating,” that would make her 31. A 31-year-old woman dumping/cheating on her boyfriend (who was actually within her age range) to chase after a barely-legal dork from a decently famous pop punk group. Doesn’t that sound sketchy? In my eyes, she took advantage of everything in that situation: the fact she was a PR manager, the fact that Michael was young and naive, the notion that she would get more money and notoriety, and that Modest was probably in need of a beard, well... I’m sure she didn’t hesitate. For her, it’s a win-win-win situation. Just look at her! It doesn’t even look like she has to work that hard anymore, like she’s gone full LA influencer who gets sponsors up the wazoo and gets paid to be a beard. Her fucking dog is a walking advertisement (just look at southy’s ig page, it’s pretty much all sponsors). And no, I’m not saying she doesn’t work, but it seems like social media has taken up most of her life. And she barely even uses it for good/actually important issues. So there’s that.

Fun tidbit: she’s been working in the whole PR/entertainment realm since 2002. Michael was 7. Let that sink in.

Anyway, yeah, my point is that her “relationship” with Michael is pretty creepy. If the roles were reversed, that the younger was female and older was male, people would see it as creepy rather than “they’re both mature adults who can make their own decisions!!” 1. No, that’s a huge double standard, and 2. any time an older person goes after someone who is several years younger, regardless of sex, will always be sketchy in my (and a lot of other people’s) eyes.

5. She is a massive hypocrite in pretty much every way.

Oh, the positivity and sunshine her stans claim she spreads is more like a nasty downpour of hypocrisy and bullshit. Let’s start with this whole ‘spreading positivity’ thing she’s all about.

Crusty stans always say she’s all about spreading positivity and loving yourself and fuck the haters and blah blah blah. I already showed an example above of how she guilt tripped the fuck out of her audience, whether they support her or not. It wasn’t her trying to prove a point, it was straight up guilt tripping, especially because of how much she inserted herself into such situations. She could’ve worded it much differently that shed light rather than guilt.

And this whole being positive/loving yourself thing... well, that brings me to the age thing.

No one seems to know how old Crusty is. 34 is the mostly-agreed upon age, so let’s roll with that. It’s no secret she gets treatments, I mean, just look at this post:

She literally admits to it. And unfortunately I can’t find screenshots of her raving about the intravenous vitamin treatments among other things, but I do remember seeing them (if anyone has them, let us know!)

And it’s been shown she loves to use photoshop (not just on herself either). I mean, how could you go from this:

She doesn’t even look like the same person! If anything, it looks like she’s gotten younger instead of older... oh wait.

And she always does that pouty-lip thing, and I have a friend who says she thinks she sees lip fillers, which wouldn’t be that surprising. I mean, just look at this old picture of her:

Yeah, keep telling yourself that those lips are all natural.

Seriously... in pretty much every photo of her on her ig, she’s jutting her bottom lip out like it’s some duck face selfie from like, 2011. Please.

And her ass, well.

Bruh even Luke has a bigger ass than she does.

She posted a video on her twitter of her in the first picture saying something like “to all the people who think it’s photoshopped,” but y’know, it’s like... videos can be edited. Camera angles and poses can make an ass look bigger. Okay sis.

Fun fact: she deleted that picture of her by the pool, probably because people were making fun of how she literally had her bathing suit stuck in her ass. I mean, that’s what she gets for trying to make it look like she has one when she doesn’t.

Aaaaand here’s the heavy hitter:

When my friend saw this photo, she said that if she didn’t know Crusty was Michael’s girlfriend, she would’ve thought she was his mom. Y I K E S.

You can see the age literally everywhere. Her entire face, neck, and even the skin on her elbow in the second pic (it’s one of the first things I noticed tbh). And this was literally back in Bali 2019. You know, not even four months ago? Like damn, the sun really did her dirty lol. These pics are why me and many others question her actual age. She seriously looks like she could be in her forties in these photos, which, if she is, then her “relationship” with Michael gets even more fucked up.

Oh and she doesn’t just photoshop herself. You have this monstrosity:

That’s a really... interesting ear.

So yeah, what part of Crusty’s face/body/everything is real? Not much! So, if she’s all about positivity, loving yourself, embracing your flaws and "fuck the haters" and whatnot, why can’t she practice what she preaches? You’re getting older, get the fuck over it and start acting like it, maybe start accepting it and stop getting treatments that will probably eventually backfire (like in the Bali pic).

Moving on from her looks, her entire attitude is just extremely hypocritical. I saw how she tries to preach online about mental health and how important it is to take care of yourself, and then she does shit like this:

So you’re just going to make fun of someone who’s struggled with severe drug addiction and eating disorder like that? She’s said on her twitter that her father was an addict, yet she’s going to make fun of someone who struggled with the same issue?

She’s considered a role model because she speaks out about this kind of stuff, including feminism, but let’s examine this a bit. This is her pinned tweet, and has been for a while:

Good message, yeah? Oh, but then she interacts with disgusting trash like Musty Collins:

Musty Collins, who puts on this whole sad boi~ act and then name drops 5sos to prey on underage girls. If Crusty’s so keen on empowering women, WHY DOES SHE INTERACT WITH A LITERAL PEDOPHILE WHO PREYS ON YOUNG GIRLS. Literally two of the most emotionally manipulative people in the world of 5sos. I guess that’s how they get along so well. They should just get together, but they wouldn’t because they’re too old for each other.

And of course it circles back to her fatphobic tweets. So much for empowering women.

Considering that spreading positivity is what she’s known for (besides being with Michael, yikes), it surprises me that she say something like this that goes against her entire spiel:

Uhh... sis, you are a fake ass public figure trying to get people to like you by saying random regurgitated greeting card BS online. Her ig stories are always screenshots of positive~ messages that are usually found on pinterest or some shit (not shading pinterest, don’t worry lol). That’s some greeting card BS regurgitation right there. Basically what this comment is saying is that she’ll only be nice to people who she thinks worthy of being nice to. A “realist” my ass. I’ve already gone over how “real” she is.

And then you have these ridiculous tweets:

“People are people no matter who they love or how old they are” “When did I say I was all about positive vibes?” Alright then.

I love how these tweets just SHOW how much of a hypocrite she is. Her entire “relationship” with Michael is shown through photos. Literally any time there’s a camera, she will take advantage of it and come up with an excuse to show off her relationship. Where’s the “human connection” you’re going on about? Oh wait, it’s not there, because their relationship isn’t real. Oops.

The second tweet.... just oof. She’s just tweeting about herself lmao.

I love how her excuse for her fucking up is just “I’M A HUMAN BEING WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!!” Girl, in case you haven’t noticed, we are ALL human beings, just not all of us are assholes when we fuck up. And then she goes on about how “we are all just human beings and we should all love each other!!” Yeah, it all comes back full circle, one of hypocrisy.

And this isn’t really a reason why Crusty is the worst, just some tweets I saw that kinda made me laugh:

“Luke who?” Oh I don’t know, the guy that your fiance’s actually in love with? HA. She wishes she could be Luke. It’s hilarious how jealous she is of him, how, whenever Lemon content comes out or the spotlight falls on Luke somehow, Crusty has to post about her and Michael’s relationship/engagement to get the attention back on her. Let’s be real, she’ll never be as gorgeous as Luke is, and Michael will never love her like he loves Luke.

So, in conclusion, Crusty is just a fake lying hypocrite. No amount of “this was in the past!! she’s changed!!” excuses will ever change my mind. After all, a lot of things in this masterpost were fairly recent. She might not tweet those horrible things anymore, but her old self shines through sometimes in the form of “I’M HUMAN I MAKE MISTAKES!!!” If she’s really changed, why doesn’t she show it?It’s because she really hasn’t, she’s just gotten better at controlling her social media presence. And that, my friends, is why Crusty is the legit Worst™.

How does rooster teeth get the message of criticisms... cause I just really want them to know I was thoroughly disappointed with Oscar’s character this volume... he was on the front of the poster for God’s sakes. Sorry I just needed to rant 😅😇 and hopefully they act on it in volume 7 and make him one of the focal characters next volume.

To be honest I’m not sure anon-chan. The closest thing Icould think of is that the RT CRWBY staffs probably watch all the critique contentfrom RWBY Youtubers on YouTube and browse through fancomments on Twitter and Reddit. I also heard that Miles and Kerry sometimes frequent the RWBY Official Reddit page and then there is the RWBY fan base on the RoosterTeeth website.

I’m not sure about much the CRWBY check out Tumblrthough. I know there is a RoosterTeeth Tumblr page but that hasn’t been updatedin a while, I believe. Regarding Oscar,well I’ve already voiced my piece on that several times over. I will say thisanon. Don’t think of V6 as being a let-down in terms of Oscar’s promiseddevelopment but rather the first legit chapter in his arc.

Despite this volume’s shortcomings, one positive Oscar-worthy thing that I liked about this season is that the CRWBY actually used Oscar a lotmore during V6. We didn’t learn moreabout him as a character or his past at all this season but at least we got tosee Oscarcontribute more to the team.

There wasn’t a single episode of V6 where Oscar didn’t have screen timeor at least one moment where he contributed to the plot in some shape or form. Bruh,that was a welcomed changed compared to his underutilization in V5 where hispresence was constantly interrupted by Ozpin; short of the infamous dojo scenewith Ruby.

While I am disappointed that Oscar is still prettymuch a blankcanvas as he was between V4 and V5with V6 providing nothing new to his character than what was already introducedabout him in previous seasons, nevertheless, I’m hopeful for the Atlas Arc.

I have a feeling that come V7 going more into the full arc trilogy, theCRWBY Writers will start to bring Oscar more to the forefront again.I know Atlas is supposed to focus on Weiss’ side of story. I have no doubtthat Weiss is going to be the frontrunner for the Atlas Arc, particularly V7which I believe will focus on her family affairs and the crimes of the SDC withthe Faunus Abuse.

However I also have a feeling that Atlas will beOscar’s time in the spotlight aswell. I do feel wemay learn more about Oscar going forward in Atlas. At least that’swhat I’m hoping for; fingers crossed. I understand your pain. As a Pinehead,I too have grown a bit weary of the Writers lack of fleshing Oscar out more.

It took them, what…five seasons for us to finally learn more about Ozpin and hispast—well kind of since Jinn’s story didn’t touch on the lifetimes Ozma spentas the Hermit,the King of Vale and lastly Headmaster of Beacon. I’d like to thinkthere was valid reason for omitting these three lives particularly because Ifeel the Hermitand the King of Vale especially helped shape Ozpin into the man hewas.

I feel like we’ll see more of Ozpin’s story andmemories for the Atlas Arc as well which in turn is wrapped up in Oscar’sstory. I’m hopeful for Oscar getting more focus in Atlas since he’s on his own.While Ozpin and Oscar are on good terms since Oz did return to help Oscarmomentarily, Oz is still gone.

Since Oz has locked himself deep inside Oscar’smind, I’m praying this is a sign that at some point Oscar is going to jump into his mind to findOzpin. I’ve always wanted to see a visual representation of Oscar’s mind—howit looks from within since he shares it with Ozpin.

And since it’s Oscar’s mind—this is a way for us asthe audience to live through Oscar’s memories and learn more about him and his pastfrom the cherished childhood memories within his mind. Since we will never goback to Oscar’s home on the farm, physically in the show, the best way now is throughhis memories.

I hope the Writers have something good and concreteplanned for Oscar’s arc down the line. I kind of lost faith in them a bit in V6 C9but…I’m giving them a chance again since they are the ones who made Oscar.

They are the ones who created Oscar and are writinghis story. So I want to believe they have something good planned for him thatthey are slowly taking their good ass time to build up to. That’s the mind-setI’m approaching this with. If the Ozpinheads had towait for their boy to get some development and depth, we Pineheads gotta be patienttoo. Our boy’s time iscoming. We just have to wait out the storm and look out for the bright rainbow onthe other side.

To close off my answer post, I’m going to concludewith a small squigglescript. It’s a small rewrite of theairship scene from the V6 finale from the point where Ruby Rose becamea Pinehead a la five minutes to make the others appreciateOscar.

As much as my Rosegardening Pinehead heart loved thatmoment to bits the first time I saw it…if the Writers really wanted to sell uson the group showing appreciation for Oscar, they shouldn’t have let Ruby pointit out.

I mean I love thatRuby was sweet enough to direct everyone’s attention to Oscar but…when I lookback on that scene, it feels kind of…cheap, for lack of a better word. In the sensethat, before that, everyone genuinely acknowledged Ruby’s greatness (becauseof course, she’s our protagonist who did some recklessly badass shit for thefinale) but needed Ruby to spell out Oscar’s appreciation like “LOOK! LOOK ATHIM! APPRECIATE THE GOOD FARM BOY FOR HE IS GOOD!”

Don’t get me wrong. I still adore that sceneespecially for Oscar’s reaction to Ruby’s over exaggerated attempt to make theothers appreciate him. I mean it works as the perfect relatable meme it is becausethat is literally the epitome of me as a Pinehead havingto explain to other fans why I love Oscar so much, why he’s my favourite RWBYCharacter and why he’s so good as a character in general. However, if the CRWBY’sintention was to make the others appreciate Oscar, it could have been done alittle better.

That being said, I took a crack at rewriting thisscene. Again, this is just my interpretation. This is also NOT me trying to harpon the CRWBY Writers. Just a little what if scene that I wanted to take a shot at depicting. So let’s go:

RWBY SquiggleScript #013: Oscar-worthy Appreciation

Picture it: What if … the airship scenefrom the V6 finale episode was extendedto highlight the whole team acknowledging Oscar and showering him with moreappreciation and love before he spills the beans about Ozpin.

Ruby: *awkwardly*… Hey stop it!

Ren: You petrified aLeviathan after diving down the barrel of a canon!

Ruby: *awkwardly*…Uhh…ha…don’t act like you all haven’t done crazy stuff before. I—Imean… *points atJaune* Jaune! Jaune jumped in front of a giant mechahand to save Nora!

Alleyes fall on Jaune now.

Weiss: *frankly* Thatis true.

Nora: That was pretty crazy.

Ruby: *smirking cockily* Ha!

Jaune: What! Hey! W–Well…thatwas only because…*pointsat Nora* Nora startedfiring missiles at Cordo like a mad woman!

Nora: Well that’s onlybecause Ren…*points in Ren’sdirection* jumped onto Cordo’s backto take out her shields!

Ren: *flatly* Yeah,I did do that. You got me. Well…Blake finallytook down her abusive ex.

Blake: Yeah with Yang’s help and only after she hit him with her motorcycle!

Yang: Rest in pieces my beautifulbike. But…didn’t you guys say that Weiss summoned agiant Wasp?

Weiss: *incredulously* To save your crazy sister who jumped on the face of a giant robot!

Ruby: Heeey!

Alleyes returned to Ruby again and she’s sulks. Qrow chuckles from the passengerseat.

Qrow: *amusedly*Back to you it seems kiddo.

Ruby: Oh don’t you start withme Mr. Disappeared for several hours and ends up passed out in front of Jaune’ssister’s house.

Qrow: Hey I thought we wereswapping crazy things we’ve done stories.

Ruby: That was crazy!

Maria: She’s right. You were amess.

Qrow: Well at least I’m notthe one who annoyed Cordovin by eating cashews and then flew the airshipstraight into her canon.

Mariaopened her mouth to retort but quickly shut it afterwards; resorting toshrugging instead with an amused smirk.

Maria: *admittedly* Well… you got me there!

Mariathen playfully punches Qrow’s arm, chuckling lightly. Her laughter is soonjoined in by everyone else on the ship. Through her giggles, Ruby spots Oscar,whose laughing face locks eyes with her. Her flashes her a small smile and Rubyreturns it with a sudden cheeky grin.

Ruby: Heyyy…aren’t weforgetting someone? *unsubtly nodding in Oscar’s direction*

Fortunately,the others had the same idea.

Jaune: You are right aboutthat.

Noweveryone’s attention was on Oscar and the former farm boy shrinks a bit as he noticedall eyes suddenly on him.

Oscar: *awkwardly*…Wh—Why is everyonelooking at me? *handsflaying* I don’t have any crazy stories?

Ruby: Nope but you do havesome good farmboy stories.

Nora: You forgave Jaune afterhe acted like a total butt which to me shows maturity.

Ren: Way more maturity thanJaune.

Jaune: Hey! Aren’t you supposedto be my friends? *coughs* But…um…they areright. You’ve done great for us, Oscar.

Oscar: *scratches the back of his head awkwardly* … I…didn’t really do much, really.

Ruby: *perkily* Sure you did!

Weiss: You stood up to Dudleyfrom the Argus and warned us about the tunnel.

Yang: You stood up to Ozpinand told us about Jinn.

Blake: We wouldn’t have beenable to make it out of Brunswick Farms alive if you hadn’t fixed the tire forus to get away.

Jaune: And Ruby wouldn’t haveknown to go for the canon if it wasn’t for your brilliant observation about themissile launcher. You got good eyes, kid.

Ruby: *smiling at Oscar* You’ve come a long way, farm boy.

Oscar: *cheeks turning red* Uh…thanks, I think?

Nora: *cooing* Aww are you blushing?

Oscar: *embarrassedly; trying to cover his flushedcheeks with the collar of his jacket*N—NoI’m not!

Yang: He is! *grinningmischievously; pointing a metal finger at Oscar’s reddened face*

Oscar: *defiantly*No I’m not! *looks up at Ruby* Ruby…help .

Ruby: Alright guys, quitteasing him. *clapshand smiling broadly* Besides you’reforgetting the best part.

Ruby: *animatedly* Oscar, made a successful crash landing! He’s a fourteen year oldfarmhand.

Ruby makes the same exaggerated gestures to draw more attention to Oscar as shedid in the episode.

Oscar: *groaning* I said help me.

Ruby: *smirking at Oscar with a small wink* Shut up and let us love you.

Jaune: That was…seriouslyimpressive

Blake: We’d have been strandedwithout you.

Oscar: I…thanks but…I’ve beenmeaning to tell you guys. I didn’t land the ship on my own.

Andthe rest of the scene plays out as it did the canon episode.

Bonding with “Ate Santa Claus”: A Maine’s Fan Generous Heart

I am a former silent fangirl of Maine since 2016 until she released the Open Letter. Recently around 3rd week of January 2018, I decided to be vocal about my support for Maine. Fangirling online is not a new thing for me so I am already familiar how to be objective, positive, and happy with my words. Rule of thumb is “Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.” It worked for me all the times so I applied it as well here for the fandom of Maine.

I started tweeting first and I created this dedicated fangirl blog entry for Maine. Few fans immediately appreciate my written works for the Phenomenal Star. What warms my heart is the joy and gratitude I am feeling whenever I write about Maine are the emotions they felt too when they read my blog entries or tweets. I continued doing this regardless of how varied my ideas are and how sudden these topics crossed my mind. When a writer like me is not silenced by my thought and heart, it means I have to write it down. Hence, this Tumblr blog becomes the platform for all the things I want to say about Maine.

Almost a month after I am vocal about my support for Maine, an unexpected DM (direct message) in Twitter caught me by surprise. A fan of Maine randomly sent this message:

“Hello ganda good morning, I saw your post, dont get offended ha but I wanted to give you a gift sana. A Microsoft tablet RT, with detachable keyboard. Ung specs nia oarang ipad 4th generation. Its a refurbished unit :).. natutuwa kasi ako how you love Meng so much.” [sic]

I did not know what to say. Even if I wanted to doubt, my gut feeling is loudly telling me she has a pure intention in giving that gift. Since I know how to read people’s aura either through words or pictures, it’s easier for me to separate the those with sincere intentions from a bogus. It’s a skill developed by keen and observant writers since I get inspiration from anything or anyone for my writing and not just what I feel.

I simply know I can trust her.

She sent the DM last 3rd of Feb, 2018 through my only Twitter account (@rj1421). She offered me if she can send the tablet via shipping or we can meet personally. I chose the latter because when she said she’s an OFW working in an Asian country, I know how costly the shipping fee for a letter alone on international borders so how much more for a tablet. She said she will come home to her family soon and we can meet in that time. I agreed to her suggestion.

March 10, 2018 was the designated date for meeting Ate Santa Claus. I need to use a pseudonym to respect her wishes of staying anonymous. I was excited for that day because it will be the first time for me to have a cafe bonding with a fan of Maine. I want to hear her stories too.

She is very concerned about me. Ate Santa Claus keeps on sending me reminders about the security protocol of her AirBnB accommodation. On the day itself, she texted me to say that I must notify her if I am already nearby. She stayed nearby the busy district of Timog Avenue and Tomas Morato. I grabbed the chance to take a picture of Bahay ni Kuya. Also I hoped I can see the boutique of Francis Libiran (renowned designer of Maine’s majestic princess-like gown in Tamang Panahon) as I went there. I didn’t know it was a private compound and appointments should be held first. Few more minutes after, I reach the accommodation where Ate Santa Claus stays.

As soon as I saw her, I immediately thought she is around my age. I’m around late 20s. I was surprised when she said she’s way older than my guess. She has a youthful vibe. And to use my mama’s words in observing people, “maaliwalas ang bukas ng mukha niya.” I felt comfortable in an instant because of her warm and sincere aura. I just knew it but it is more than just the smiles, a genuine character simply exudes an authentic aura.

We sat down in Coffee Bean to have more bonding time. I wanted to pay for my order but she told me she will take care of it. I did not feel meeting fan for the first time. What I felt in that moment is my own Ate came home to check on me. She is very caring even if she is not that much expressive.

I love our discussion about Maine. We are on the same page that Maine is the first Filipino mainstream celebrity we admire. Like me, she is also admires volleyball personalities. She shared her own story into which she said that she is thankful Maine reminded her that sometimes, we need to take care and decide for ourselves first. We cannot prioritize other things and people to the extent we are losing ourselves or we are just settling for mediocrity.

This story is about how she made a brave decision that I am sure most girls will not do. Ate Santa Claus told me she ended a long-time relationship. It is so long that you can round off the number to 10. She felt they are not growing anymore because as she continues to aim for new goals and development, they guy is complacent and settled with what he has for the past years. The guy even told her that she changed completely. I respect how she told me change is inevitable and what we can do instead is to change for good. They separated on a good note as the guy respected her decision too. Ate Santa Claus is already within the supposed marrying age that Filipino culture suggests but there she is, telling me she will not settle for less and with hesitations in her heart despite how long they have been together and even if their families from both sides are ready anytime for their big announcement. My respect for her deepen.

Another thing I admire about Ate Santa Claus is how much she loves her family. Like me, she wants to support her family in every possible way especially finances. Her heart is so huge that she did not mind allocating her salary for them and just keeping less for herself. OFWs really have a special spot in their hearts for their families. She wants to help them for as long as she can. I told her in the Bible, children who honors and respects their parents are favored and blessed by God.

To add more reminders from her, she told she wants to live her life to the fullest. This is why she balances her work and life experience. From time to time, she travels to different places. She is a wanderlust by heart. I was so amazed with all the local and international destinations she has been. She immersed in their culture too as she travels to connect more to the experiences more than what tourists want to do.

As our discussion went back to Maine, she told me that FUNgirling (haha sorry for the pun) should be FUN. It must not be stressful or problematic. We already have our own personal challenges and we should not add up the negativity to it. I laughed with her when she told me funny anecdotes about her fangirling to Maine. She told me she is not the type to socialize but here she is, inviting a Maine core fan group to practice a dance number in her airbnb accommodation for a fan-organized party. She invited me too to her place itself and I saw there the Maine fan core group cheering for Maine in ACTually. They were very, very nice too and it felt like a college reunion for me. As I was going home, two of them even accompanied me to the elevator. Little did I know that as soon as Maine herself thanked the SMU for their exclusive party for Maine, Ate Santa Clause with her Maine fan core group also celebrated there. I was like “Hala ate ang cuuuuute!! Dun pala yun pinapractice nila!! They need to wait first for Maine’s post before Ate Santa Claus can tell me it was for that party which they are practicing for.

Same like Santa Claus, I don’t like going to a crowd or a huge audience but she told me she just went to Broadway to see Maine, much to the laughter of her mom. haha! And recently she just shared how happy and worth it to be a part of the SMU birthday bash for Maine. Out of our love for Maine, we really do things we do not usually do before. Ganun talaga kapag pinahahalagahan mo. I love hearing all those stories about Maine from a fan whom I first met.

She grabbed the tablet and taught me the basics like how to detach the keyboard and how to use its stand. I am still amazed with this gift. Yes I know she is well off but as what I told Ate Santa Claus, not all those with the capacity to give has the willingness to give. Here she is, giving me the tablet wholeheartedly.

Sabi ko, “Ate how can I repay you?” She smiled, and said “Pay it forward”

I felt my tears forming at that moment. Thankfully my over-sized eyeglasses can cover my eyes. She has advocacy too and she wants me to continue doing my passion such as writing. In time, as she said, I will be able to help other people too. I planted her words in my heart so when the time comes I fell down again from failures and rejections, her words will be one of God’s assurance to remember my purpose.

I will never forget that day for sure. Two strangers become sisters because God used Maine to be our bridge. So this is how it feels like when huge core fan group becomes united that despite of the diversity, we can be one.

Just like you Ate Santa Claus, I will propel too in my career and passion as I support my family and strengthen my faith in God. Oh my God 4 TIMES? Talk about all of them! Or just your favorite parts I'm sorry if you don't want to

omg okay

im gonna put this under a read more because theres four different stories and theyre quite long but basically this is the story of my budding acquaintanceship with andy mientus

just stick with me here because they keep getting better with each time

so the first time i met him was at the bway flea market in september and it was just a quick lil meet and greet thing with him and michael and tbh michael was SO NICE and i was SO NERVOUS that i don’t even think i made eye contact with andy once

then the second time, this is where it starts getting wild (this was less than a month ago wtf)

so i went to go see wicked in orlando and after the show i walked around the building to find the stagedoor. and once i found it i went back to my car, which was in a parking garage about a five-minute walk away. once i got there, i grabbed the gift i had gotten for andy (i don’t wanna say what it was because yall will think im ridiculous for buying this for him but lets just say it was a gift he had expressed wanting and it was vvvvv expensive) and then i walked back to the theater. so i was walking to the stagedoor when i saw the group of people that had been there earlier walking towards me (away from stagedoor) so i was like “oh no did i miss him oh no oh no oh no” but then i looked behind the group of people and ANDY WAS RIGHT THERE WALKING TOWARDS ME

so naturally im like !!!!!!! and hes just texting and walking and im like do i approach him?? do i not approach him??? but i wasn’t about to let my anxiety stop me from meeting him so i was like “oh! andy! hi!” and he looked up at me and he’s real cute and he was like “oh, hi!” and then he walked over to me

and i gave him his gift and he was super gracious about it it was super sweet and then i asked how he was and he was like “i’m good, i’m feeling a bit under the weather right now” and i told him to feel better ya know things like that and we got a picture it was cute

and so it was kinda just the right moment for us to part ways so we were about to do that when it turns out we were going in the same direction. i was going back to the parking garage and he was gonna wait on his uber and so we ended up walking side by side

so he was like “so how did u like the show?” and i was like wWELL because i had missed the first act due to forgetting my tickets at home and having to go back and get them because im a dumbass and i told him this and he goes “OH NO and most of my parts are in act one!!!!” and he was laughing and my heart melted i just love him and i was like IM SORRY but u were still great in march of witch hunters and everything and he was like awww thnx

and so then we said our goodbyes and he thanked me again for the gift and he was like “well hopefully you’ll get to see the show again sometime” and i was like “oh yeah definitely” knowing full well that i already had tickets for four more dates in tampa

so then we parted ways and he was just standing there and i was standing at a crosswalk like twenty feet away and i had to wait for it to say i could go and i just. we made eye contact it was awkward but then it said i could walk and i RAN

but IT GETS BETTER so i went back to my car and tweeted him thanking him for stopping and everything and then i started driving home and i called my best friend to rant to her about the whole thing

so after i hung up the phone all i saw on my screen was a twitter notif that said

and i FLIPPED OUT and checked my twitter and he had followed me and everything and i immediately called my best friend back and was like like WHAT DO I DO and she was like “well u could start by reading the dm”

so basically andy had opened my gift and he was FREAKING OUT idk if i wanna post the full thing on here because ya know privacy but he was so sweet and he had sent me this paragraph saying that the gift was “crazy generous” and he was like r u sure u don’t want to keep it for urself??? and then he said “No one has ever given me something so generous before so I’m like, panicking lol” and then he apologized for if he seemed tired because his stomach was acting up, which he said hes “a wuss about”

so i literally pulled over to respond to this boy’s goddamn dm and i was like no u keep it i got it for u things like that and he responded saying wow thank u and then he told me that he wanted to post about it everywhere but he didn’t want people to think they should spend a bunch of money on him to buy a shoutout and then like five minutes later he complimented my art and the stones i got him as well and i just responded like omg no i never expected u to post about them and even if u do u don’t have to say it was a gift or anything

so that was the first night and im still so… shook

but the third time i met him got even better,,, (this was this past tuesday)

so i went to go see wicked in tampa and earlier andy had tweeted me saying that yes he was gonna be on and he was gonna stagedoor that night so i was hype

so after the show i went down to stagedoor and there were literally only two other guys there. and the stagedoor is kinda like,,, its a clear glass door and you can see into this lobby area from outside and i saw andy in the lobby area and he was talking to like a security guard or smth and i was like ohshitohshitohshit because i knew he was about to come out and i think its natural to get nervous when things like this happen

so he finally walked out and he went up to the two guys standing a little bit away from me and he goes “hey man.” and they talked for approximately 2 seconds and then andy looked at me and he just…….. okay andy has this face he does where he get really excited and he opens his mouth and his eyes get really big its like a mix between the :o and the :D face and HE LOOKED AT ME AND DID THAT

so the next thing i know, andy mientus is walking towards me with his arms open and he’s hugging me and im hugging him and my face is in his jacket and hes like “HI!!! how are you??!” and im like “IM SO GOOD”

and he says “so u finally saw act one” and i was like “i did” and he was like “howd you like it?” and i was like IT WAS SO GOOD and i told him that hes actually a pretty good dancer and his eyes get all big and he puts his hand over his heart and he goes “REALLY?” and i was like ya!! and he told me “oh my god thank u so much i had to work so hard to make it look that way” it was the purest thing

and idk how it came up but i told him that i was coming back to see the show on friday (which was like,, two days ago now oh my god) and he goes “friday? ur seeing it on friday?” and i was like “yea friday night” and he goes “…….would youuuuu wanna go on a tour backstage with me that night?? because we do this thing with broadwaycares where the actors give people who donate a certain amount tours backstage and if u wanna just tag along we can just hang out”

and at this point my brain is going a mile a minute and i was like “omg yeah sure” and i probably said “that’s awesome” and “that’s so nice” at least eight times each

and he was like “okay great! u can just walk in through the stagedoor that night and tell those guys in there that ur with me and they should get it all figured out” and i was like…….. this is my life now

so that was about it for my third time but THIS FRIDAY was my most recent encounter with mr. mientus and whew what a story

on my way to the show, andy dmed me again on twitter and he was like “whats ur name for the list tonight?” and i told him while freaking out because not only did he remember that i was coming but he remembered my twitter and then he was like okay cool i don’t think you’ll need ur ID or anything and then he sent me another message that said “Enjoy the show and see you after!”

so after the show, i was nervous as hell and he dmed me right after he had gotten offstage apparently and it just said “Come through the stage door” like yes andy i know but i didn’t actually see the dm until i was going home lol

so i walked to the stagedoor and i saw andy in the back of the lobby area just chillin and im just now realizing that he was there to pick me up aw and so i walked in and the security guard at the desk next to me started FREAKING OUT he was like “WHO ARE YOU YOURE NOT ALLOWED IN HERE” and andy started walking over and he was like “oh no shes with me” and i kinda just gestured towards him and the guard let us go lol

so we walked back to where andy had been standing which was near some doors and he goes “hey” and i was like “hey!” and then he opened his arms again and i thought to myself “i love my life” before hugging him and then he called out to the security guard that had just yelled at me and he was like “hey can we get buzzed in” (referring to them opening the doors for us to let us go backstage) and he said to me “thanks for coming!” and i was like “thanks for having me” and apparently the security guard had not heard him earlier so andy waves his arm over towards the desk and shouts “HEY CAN WE GET BUZZED IN” but then someone opened the door from the inside so he was like “oh! nevermind lets go on a touuuuur follow me”

then we went through the doors and he was like “so this is backstage” and hes like walking in front of me and HE WALKS SO FAST I WAS TRYNA KEEP UP and usually im the fast walker but no and then he showed me the hair and makeup department since the door was open and then we went through some double doors (he held the door open for me what a gentleman) and suddenly i was on stage right backstage of wicked

so the other people who were supposed to be going on the tour had to be gathered up and guided backstage and everything so me and andy had time to talk for like literally ten minutes and we talked about where hes currently living and the election (i talked about politics with andy mientus rt ur goals) and the show and all of the huge props around us and things like that we went over a variety of topics

then all of the people who were going on the tour arrived and there were probably like 8 of them and they all just walked in on me and andy talking and i wasn’t even mad that they interrupted us i was like…… i feel like i shouldn’t be here but it was all good

so i wont go through the whole tour but just know that andy is THE CUTEST TOUR GUIDE most of the people on the tour had literally no clue about anything in theatre (andy had explained to me that this would probably happen) so he explained stuff really well and he knows so much about wicked and the show and im never gonna watch it the same way again

so once the tour was over (it was probably like twenty minutes long) he was like “well i think that’s it! thank u guys so much for coming and donating and seeing the show i hope u liked my tour” and then he was like “now im gonna walk u guys out to stagedoor… maybe you’ll get to sign some autographs for people” and everyone laughed but i was just like ur stupid

and then he led us out but on the way he showed us the wardrobe department because it was open and the sign in sheet and stuff so that was cool and then we got to the door to enter the lobby area so he was saying bye to all of us and holding the door open to let us all out and when i was going out he looked at me and went “hey” and i was like “hey” and he went in for a big hug it was the best moment of my life and singlehandedly saved my 2017 and he was like “i’ll see ya” and i was like “oh im coming back im seeing the show again next weekend” and he was like “oh okay great!!! i’ll see u then!” hes the sweetest lil angel and then i left so yeah that’s been my life as of late

[ANSWERED] 10 Surefire Ways To Avoid Looking Like A Twitter Noob

This one came straight from a client in a meeting, as they were considering setting up their corporate Twitter account:

How do we get started and not look like a Twitter Noob? We have been wanting to tweet for a while, but we don’t want our customers to think we don’t know what we’re doing.

So, you’re ready to Tweet, right?

You’ve realized that Twitter isn’t just people sharing what they ate for breakfast and that there might be some real value to engaging with the more than 300 million active users that might give you valuable insights about your products, services, and competitors. Before you jump in and start tweeting away, here are seven tips that can help you avoid looking like a newbie and (hopefully) avoid some common pitfalls.

1) Don’t Be An Egg

Adjust your Twitter profile photo to something other than the egg. Most users would prefer to interact with a human being, so consider having the person managing your Twitter account upload their photo.

If you absolutely don’t want a persons’ face, then at least upload a nice, high-res image of your company or brand logo.

2) Fill Out Your Twitter Profile

Nothing says “faceless Twitter bot” like a Twitter profile with no description. Who are you? What do you like? Are you actually a human being? Why should I follow you back? Take 5 minutes and come up with a short description that tells me something about you.

3) Sign Up For A Hootsuite Account Or Download TweetDeck

Nobody really tweets from Twitter.com. It’s hard to follow all the conversations and you can’t look at multiple conversation streams at the same time. Tools like HootSuite and TweetDeck make Twitter much easier to use and manage.

Personally, I like HootSuite because it’s web-based and I can access it anywhere. They have a decent mobile app, as well. TweetDeck has it’s benefits too, so try one and if you don’t like it, try the other.

4) Follow Some Folks

It’s likely that you know people on Twitter. Your employees are probably tweeting. Your competitors are probably tweeting. Heck, your grandma might be tweeting.

Click the Follow button and their status updates will start appearing in your home feed. If you’re interested in learning more about social media, feel free to follow me @socmedsean.

Don’t go follow crazy, though. Twitter does look at certain following:follower ratios to identify spam accounts, so try to keep your follower to following ratio around 2:1. That means for ever 2 people you follow, try to get one to follow you back by tweeting valuable content or engaging with others in conversations.

5) Learn What A Hashtag Is And How To Use It

On Twitter, hashtags are used to categorize your tweet into a specific topic.

For instance, suppose I write a blog post about setting your Gmail look and feel back to the more “classic” view that a lot of people preferred. I might write a tweet that goes something like this:

Don’t like the new look and feel of Gmail and want to revert back to the old, classic view? Here are the steps http://ow.ly/9H1h30mMglL

Notice that nowhere in my tweet is the word “email” or “tip” but these are terms that some people might use to find helpful tips specific to email. So, how do I make sure that my tweet gets in front of those who are interested in email tips? I add their hashtags. So my tweet will end up looking like this, instead:

Don’t like the new look and feel of Gmail and want to revert back to the old, classic view? Here are the steps http://ow.ly/9H1h30mMglL #email #tip

Be sure not to stuff your tweets too full of hashtags. There is such thing as hashtag overload and it gets a little annoying. I advise 2-3 that are specifically on-topic.

This search identifies tweets relating to community management by searching the #cmgr hashtag

6) Set Up Some Searches And Conversations To Follow

In TweetDeck and HootSuite, your home feed represents the tweets from people you are following. You can set up additional columns, however, that consists of mentions of specific search terms.

For instance, I like to hear what people say about online community management, so I have a column that filters all the tweets for the #cmgr hashtag. This allows me to easily see what topics people are discussing that relate to that topic.

Set up searches for your company name, brand names, and industry keywords. Heck, set up searches for your competitors and see what your prospective customers think about their products.

7) Learn The Limits And Get Comfortable With Them

Tweets were initially limited to 140 characters, and that’s still a good guide to use. Also, just because you have more characters, doesn’t mean you should use them all. Try to keep your tweets below 125 characters so that others can retweet your tweets.

In some tools like HootSuite, only displays the first 125 characters anyway…so make sure your entire message is visible by keeping it short and sweet.

When someone retweets you, it adds “RT” and your twitter handle to the message, which could cause their RT to go above 140 characters. They then have the choice of either editing the tweet or not retweeting it.

Either way is not optimal for your message, so try to keep your message clear and concise.

8 ) Use Contractions And Symbols, But Avoid Netslang When Possible

Instead of typing “would not”, type “won’t”. Instead of “did not”, use “didn’t”.

Use the & symbol instead of typing “and”. These small adjustments can save you characters and help make your messages easier to retweet.

Avoid using netslang, though. Things like “UR” instead of “your” or “2” instead of “to” can make your tweets confusing. Take the time to craft and re-craft your tweets to say what you want within the limits.

It’s a skill that takes a little time to develop, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be typing in 125 – 200 characters in no time.

9) Listen

Don’t just start tweeting and DON’T start tweeting links to your product pages. Also, don’t use Twitter as your personal rant platform.

Twitter is not about marketing and it’s not about anger and rants, it’s about building relationships.

Again, listen.

Watch the conversation streams.

Learn.

Then, engage in human conversations.

See someone that has a question, answer it.

Have an opinion on a tweet? Express it.

Commented on a blog post? Share it.

Just remember that there are humans on the other ends of those tweets. Treat others with respect and don’t engage in hateful tweeting. Be sure to learn and follow Thumper’s Rule when engaging in social media.

Again…don’t try to sell to your tweeps.

10) Determine How You Can Help Your Followers

Explore the reasons that people following your twitter account? Do they want updates on your products? Are they looking for customer support? Maybe they want coupons or discounts. Find a way to help them.

Ask them what they’d like to see from you and then provide it, when possible. Contribute to the community and you’ll see big returns from your followers.
