Enid frowned softly, but nodded. “Ok.”

Wednesday took a deep breath. “I’ve already lived through this day. Eight times.”

A puzzled look crossed Enid’s face. “You’re… having déjà vu? Or a vision? You had a vision of how this day is going to go already?”

Wednesday shook her head. “No. I’m cursed, I think. It’s happened before. I’ll go through today and if I do something wrong, I’ll wake up and the day will start over again.”

Enid’s eyes went wide. “You’re Groundhog Day cursed?”

Notes: One of my favourite fics ever. Definitely has my favourite scene in all Wenvier fic (get to the dance with the red-paint rain and you'll see what I mean). I felt it was festive and should be shared today. Enjoy!

Wednesday & Xavier AU Prompt:

In the night, I dream of woe so true at AO3 by Sebena

Wednesday absolutely will not give in and text Xavier back over break. She has resolutely ignored all of his attempt at correspondence, only bending to respond to one of Enid's many incessant texts. Yes, she is alive. Simple and to the point.

If she ignores him, he will stop, she's sure. Only he doesn't stop, he wishes her a 'terrible morning' and 'gruesome nightmares' like clock work, inter spaced with pictures of his latest art. Most of them are of the school, Enid and Ajax canoodling in the quad, one of Thing typing away at her typewriter that was an admirable likeness. She does show Thing the sketch as she knew he would be pleased to be the subject of Xavier's art.

There are some of her, a few portraits, another of her set ablaze, battling Crackstone like a fallen angel, flaming wings at her back. She falls asleep to that text and finds herself in an art studio, not the shed at Nevermore but somewhere else. Xavier is at his easel, long fingers blackened and moving fast over the paper, until he spots her. It isn't a dream or like any vision she's ever had. She is perfectly aware and he seems to be as well. They don't know which one of them is doing this, her visions or his prophetic dreams, maybe it's a combination of the two. Maybe they share a connection, he suggests to which she scoffs and vehemently denies any such possibility.

Night after night, they find each other, sometimes in his studio, her room, the grounds of the Addams estate, Central Park in New York. All waking dreams that she can't escape and as the nights go on, she finds she doesn't want them to stop. They talk, they laugh, they cry, she denies him in dreaming and the waking when he tries to confront her about their shared dreams, and he pushes back until she's left with no where to run but towards him.

They come together, slowly, first in companionship, friendship and then more. She excepts his hand as she tours him around the estate, allows him to guide her motions while he teaches her how to hold the brush to allow for smoother strokes across the canvas. Snuggles into the long line of his body as she reads her latest chapters to him in the Addams library. Watches him with soft eyes as he sketches her draped on his bed. Holds him against her chest, trailing her fingers though the long strands of his hair while he tells her about his father's neglect, his mother abandonment, as he cries tears he's been keeping at bay for years.

And that's when she knows she's sunk, because she doesn't see it as weakness, not on him, not when he's in her arms, offering his truths. So trusting and asking nothing beyond her ear, her hands to ground him while he splits apart like rotted flesh, bloated and bursting on the floor.

For three days she keeps herself awake with caffeine, electroshock, bamboo shoots under her nails, Thing slapping her repeatedly, even if he thinks she's being dramatic. Xavier texts, calls, leaves voice messages, threatening to drive to her house if she doesn't respond, which she ignores.

She is not falling for Xavier Thorpe, she doesn't need him or want him with her. She doesn't feel safe in his arms, or feel her stomach swoop pleasantly when he smiles at her. These feelings have betrayed her before, she trusted Tyler and he proved to be a Hyde, controlled by a woman that wanted her and everyone she knew dead.

On day three she finally succumbs to exhaustion, falling into a deep sleep and finds herself in his studio, but alone. She's disappointed, disgustingly so, but when she pocks around she finds a message written on the sketch pad on his easel, "See you soon, Wednesday."

She wakes with a shock to find she's not alone in her room, Xavier's there, her parent's having let him in. Terrified, and not in a good way, she tells him to leave, denies his every word he utters, but he won't be deterred and she's still so tired from staying away from him so long.

Exhausted, she allows herself to fall into him, nestle into his solid warmth, real and present. He holds her tight, taking most of her weight and fitting her into his body so he can rest his head on her crown.

The kiss is different then the one she shared with Tyler, it's deeper, long over due and sickeningly sweet, so much so she wants to stick needles in her eyes.

When they pull apart, not far because her knees are inexplicably weak, she scowls at him. "That was horrible." She mumbles, already tilting her tingling lips up for another.

He just smiles and nuzzles her nose in a disgusting show of affection. "It was perfect for me too."

Enid and Ajax are confused and frightened for their friend, when Xavier walks up behind Wednesday the first day back and crosses his arms around her front in a causal hold. One she does not kill him for, but leans into, allowing him to rest his chin on her head, and continues to describe the many new and innovative ways she tortured Pugsley during break.
