Gahhhhh we got our photos back from @dondolcephotography of our winx group!!! I’m in LOVE with the photos!!! This cosplay was very much outside of my comfort zone so big thank you to Don for working with my insecurities and these came out so much better than I had hoped and he did an amazing job capturing the cosplay! I did make the wings but they didn’t turn out how I wanted them to, for various reasons, so I will need to remake them from scratch since they sadly were no longer usable. I know I promised a tutorial, which will happen, but I need to remake the wings first. Maybe I’ll build them on a live? Like most during quarantine I have gained a lot of weight. This was a tough cosplay for me with how little clothing I have on so I couldn’t “hide” the change. Of course all bodies are beautiful but that’s easy to say when you are confident. I am a mix of confident and insecure so I thought I would share what I did with this cosplay to help insecure me feel more confident in this new version of my body. There are three main things that helped me with this. So to start I am wearing thick tights. This helps make my legs have all the same tone and come across as more smooth. Second is I am wearing a corset with a flesh tone tank top over it to hide it. I put duct tape over the front clasps of the corset to make them not stand out as much. Corsets always help me feel more confident and giving me that special hourglass shape. The benefit of also wearing the corset was that my wings had something to slip into so I didn’t need to wear straps. Third thing is to get a good photographer. If you are insecure a bad photographer can make you feel worse. Getting a good photographer means they know how to shoot you in the best light, get good angles and help posing. Overall don’t hold back from doing cosplays you are insecure about. Sure some people might say mean things but do your best to ignore them, remember you cosplay for yourself, not them so they don’t get to have an opinion on if you look good or not. Also don’t be afraid to alter a cosplay to fit your comfort levels. Who cares if the costume doesn’t exactly match, what matters is how you feel in it. Very few people have those perfect bodies that look like the art, so try not to be too hard on yourself. You get one life, don’t let yourself hold you back.
