Not because Tobey I think deserved it, and it wasn't OKAY that Becky did it, but like... Becky was a small child being manipulated, and she made up for it in the end. Yeah I don't agree with her doing it but... she was a child being manipulated by someone she idolized. It wasn't okay for her to do, but it wasn't her fault whatsoever, and I feel like it should be villainized less.
(Tbh I don't think it's fair to judge ANY of the children too harshly for crappy things they've done; they're children. They're going to act... like children. They're not fully mature. They're little kids. They're gonna act like little kids.)

hi!!! I recently got into wordgirl in the year of our lord 2023 and I'm glad to find an active wg account pls never stop posting 🙏 anyway, i have a question, are there any good tobecky fics you'd recommend? i've read some already but I'm always open to new suggestions! tobecky is one of my fav ships rn
Hey thanks for the ask! And that's the true spirit of being a Wordgirl fan. Also don't worry on the posting thing, I sometimes take long breaks or forget to actually use Tumblr but I always come back and I'm still somehow fixated on this show lol.
As for Tobecky fic recommendations...ough that's a tough one. I actually started a Google doc guide (like what their called, the author, how to read them, ECT.) about my favorite tobecky fics (giving my personal reviews and overview, no spoilers). But that's unfortunately been put on hold because I got self-conscious about it, and that I can't focus on two projects at the same time (my other one actually being a tobecky fic I'm currently writing, which hasn't been officially published yet, not a self-promote I think). But I do have all the overall names of the fics from the Doc so I'll paste them here, in no particular order.
As of September 2023, Jam's Tobecky fic list recommendations:
- Something Hidden (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (on FF.net)
- The Saving Tobey Series (aka: Saving Tobey, Time to go Home, and 26 letters) (all multi-chapter) (status: Semi-complete) (All On FF.net or AO3)
- Old Wounds Heal (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3 or FF.net)
- The Jealousy verse (series) (aka: Jealousy Jealousy, Who am I?, The scientific method, the sordid confessions of a teenage boy (and other extraterrestrial anomalies) (multi-chapter/one-shots) (status: Semi-complete) (All On AO3)
- Meet me on memory lane (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- A Big mistake (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- (Mamma Mia) Here we go again! (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Honey, Honey how he thrills me (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Slipping through my fingers (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Lay all your love on me (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Turning Saints into the Sea (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- A Mistletoe Prince 2: 2 mistletoe 2 Prince (One shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Space age love song (multi-chapter) (status: ongoing) (On AO3)
- First comes Friendship (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Tiny plastic polygons (multi-chapter) (status: ongoing/unknown) (On AO3)
- [Insert dumb robot pun] maybe It'll lighten the mood (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Intermissions (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- word up, it's wordgirl (and she wouldn't want me using lowercase letters) collection series (one-shots/multi-chapter) (status: Semi-complete) (All on AO3)
- School isn't big enough for two losers to sit alone (multi-chapter) (status: :( Orphaned/abandoned) (On AO3)
- Adventures of Wordwoman Project B (multi-chapter) (status: ongoing) (On AO3 or FF.net)
- Two lovers intertwined (multi-chapter) (status: ongoing) (On AO3)
- She's giving me the evil eye (a poisonous smile) (One-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- El Tango De Becky (the tragedy of tobeybot) (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (On AO3)

- Dumbfounded (one-shot) (status: complete) (On AO3)
- Two sides of the same heart (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (On AO3)

- Tis the season (one-shot) (status: complete) (On FF.net)
- Your name was written in the stars (multi-chapter) (status: complete) (On FF.net)
[Phew that's what I got so far, obviously there's probably some I wanted to add and mind you this isn't best to worst or like some elitists list of the best tobecky fics (I mean the first Saving Tobey fic is on here and have my gripes with it lol/lhj), it's just the ones I've read and remembered. But I do think they're great and wahoo some of my friends wrote these(^^) ]

I hope yall understand how I was genuinely so crushed when I saw the proshippers in the WordGirl fandom
First, some context:
I wasn't raised in the WG fandom. Growing up from ages 7-11, I was raised by the Undertale fandom after a classmate introduced me to it, which butterfly-effected and kind of changed the whole trajectory of my life for a while. Four years straight, I was obsessed with Undertale and all things Undertale AU related. It dominated my life, it was my escapism.
But, you see... that fandom is infamous for a reason. And I've long accepted that the Undertale fandom was a horrible parent.
I saw... some pretty bad stuff. A lot of stuff little kids shouldn't be seeing. But rebellious, naive, and innocent little baby I was, I ate that shit up.
So yeah, I ended up as a Frans shipper for a year. Yeah, thanks, proshippers. I now recognize how problematic and awful that ship is, but yeah, I'll confess I used to like it.
So...
Normally, the WG fandom is so wholesome, and I've always said "the WordGirl fandom is one of the nicest fandoms out there".
But now, suddenly, my new safe space is being ruined. Ruined by something all too familiar to me.
Yeah.
It hurts.

The Ripple Verse: !!BOY GENIUS!! CHAOS THEORY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lil’ Miss Amour! AKA Amy LoveHeart
My first ever OC for volume 2: !!BOY GENIUS!! (and technically my first ever OC for the Wordgirl fandom in general)
Extra Doodles:
CW: a lot of no-no words ((one including the ‘C-Word’ since Tobey is British and in his Tweenage years))
Tumblr media
So to clarify:
No I’m not shipping my OC Amy LoveHeart with Tobey McCallister (she’s like 9 while he’s 13 and when he turns 18 she’ll be 14 so ew no thank you). I just wanted to make a villain oc that gets on Tobey’s and admittedly my own nerves
Info:
Amy/Lil’ Miss Amour is a 9-10 year old villain.
She moved into Fair City around the time Wordgirl left Earth when she was 7.
She became a Villain 2 years later around the time when 13 year old Tobey Mccallister took up the mantle as Fair City’s okayest “SOMEWHAT-A-hero” as a substitute for WordGirl’s Absence.
Amy gets a crush on any (cute) boy she sees IMMEDIATELY. She doesn’t have to know them, if they’re pretty, she likes them. And if she likes them, she forces them to like her back by using her powers. (Then forcing them to steal goods and treats she wants, uncaring if the boy is caught unless she doesn’t get what she wanted)
Tobey originally was safe from her (since she thought he was just ‘meh, not cute’). But then when he proved to be the only boy that couldn’t fall for her trance, magic, or potions, she fell for him. ((Now Tobey gets to feel what it’s like to be in WordGirl’s shoes when he was smitten with her when they were 10-11. Tobey hates the reminder of that time and he absolutely hates Lil’ Miss Amour with every FIBER OF HIS BEING—))
Her catchphrase is:
“Mon Amour LOVE BEAM!” (She’s Spanish but I misspelt her name Amor as Amour, so now there’s no going back, she’s bilingual now. And probably bisexual in the future—)
Her powers consist of:
Eyes that can manipulate others into falling in love with her/adoring her. Therefore, making them be under her every command (Alike to Mind Control but forcing the victim to love her)
Knowledge of alchemy (usually it’s just magic love potions)
Creating crystallized hearts by her magic wand (very fragile, looks like candy actually-)
Pink blasts that leaves her victims in a love struck daze/trance temporarily
Her powers grow stronger in later episodes, examples:
She can force people into or out of relationships
Emotional manipulation (I don’t mean the ‘abusive type of manipulation’, I mean she literally forces their emotions). Example: She can force people to feel anger, jealousy, hatred, etc.
I plan for her to be a recurring Villain in Season 2 for Tobey, and she’ll even make a few appearances in !!WORDGIRL!! Teen Spirit but she’s mostly around to ruin things when Becky tries to get closer to Tobey romantically, including one on one hangouts and attempted confessions (much to Becky’s frustration and Tobey’s growing hatred towards the little girl)
((The Ripple Verse is tagged so if you’re interested in my AU at all 👉👈 you can click it in the post tags and look more into it))
Reblogs and Replies/Comments are GREATLY appreciated!!

Got inspired by this person to make this
Tumblr media
And now i'm gonna make one for my own (pjm addition)
Note[you can skip]: LOOK before you judge me, this fandom is like the wordgirl fandom... ok not really. Instead of building the fandom out of nostalgia, this fandom was made by people who decided to watch this show with their siblings and make headcanons of the characters. But the point is, fandom made by people above 7yro who watched kidshows.
Rules: gimmie 2-4 tropes from the list + a pjm ship/character and i'd make a story out of them (basically the og creator's rules but i changed it a bit) also depending on the story, i'll most likley age the chatacters up.
Royal au
Modern au
Powerless au
Future au
Roomate au
Opposite au (heroes becomes villains and villains becomes heroes + their personality changed a bit)
Redeemed au (villain)
BEING redeemed (villain)
Villain au (all nightime character are villains, even the heroes
Hero au (basically the opposite of nmbr 9.)
Never met au
Soulmate au
Streamer au/content creator au
Depressed villain/s
Depressed hero/s

Angst with happy ending
Angst with sad ending

Stuck in a place together
Deserted island au
Poorly timed confession
Childhood friend au (ex: person A, found out that person B is their childhood friend/more intresting with hero & villains)
Hanahaki disease
Self aware au (they're self aware that they are in a show, but no one belived them)
Experiment au
Arranged marriage
Heroic sacrifice
Swapped bodies with themselves from another au
Only 1(one) hero au (so basically there's only 1 hero and they have all 3 powers, but can only use one at a time.)
Villains Siblings au (pls name 2-5 villians when requesting!)
Heroes siblings au (pls name 2-5 heroes when requesting)
Fnaf au
Confession
Time travel
Multiverse travel (like nmbr 21, but intentional... or atleast they have a multiverse traveling machine)

My full theory on Scoops and Tobey being friends until november of 1st grade (btw YEAH I WAS THE ANON FROM WORDGIRL CONFESSIONS THAT MADE THE THEORY)
So back in Pre-k, a bunch of older kids were bullying Scoops, and none of the other kids were helping him. Then, out of nowhere, Tobey kicked one of the bullies in the shin and told them to back off. Despite also getting beat up, Tobey still was able to drive them off. Scoops thanked Tobey, and they became the best of friends.
A crucial part of their friendship that strengthened it a LOT was on father’s day. A kid made a rude remark about Tobey not having a dad, and Tobey ran off crying. Scoops, enraged, beat up the kid, getting suspended for a week. However, after hearing about what happened, Tobey was grateful, and they agreed to always be friends.
Until 1st grade.
It was a cold November day. Tobey was getting pushed around and beat up by a bunch of middle school kids. Tobey expected Scoops to stick up for him, but..he didn’t. Scoops had been bullied by those kids for a year now, and was TERRIFIED of them. So, he didn’t help Tobey. Enraged, Tobey got into a fight about it with Scoops later on. Scoops pushed Tobey for being “sensitive”, and Tobey pushed him back, not knowing that one of his inventions was there. Scoops hit it HARD, and got shocked. The result is a streak in his hair (later on, he cover’s it up with semi-permanent), and Scoops became terrified of Tobey.
Enjoy the angst ;)

When did they know that loved each other, and when did they first tell each other that they loved one another?
Ship of your choice
-Geefully chooses tobecky-
In a way tobey's ALWAYS had a crush on Becky. Sure his crush was wordgirl but we all know becky IS wordgirl. Pretty sure everyone KNEW tobey had a crush on wordgirl. Its pretty obvious even when he tried (and failed) to convince other wise.
For Becky it took a while for a crush to develope towards tobey. Mainly bc how much he would bug her both in hero and civilian form. And when she DID finally accept that she had a crush on the robot genius that was then when she confessed to him her feelings (and also her wordgirl identity. Kinda in the middle of rescuing him from danger. I got like an entire tobecky fanfic in my brain...fingers crossed that i can start writting it soon.) Tobey went into shock bc he DID HAVE his hunches that she was wordgirl a few times before but actually hearing it from her was just...wow.
(Really see their dynamic being enemies to frienemies to lovers)

Welcome to Tobecky Week 2022!
Hello, WordGirl fandom! The second Tobecky Week is here! This ship week will run from July 31st to August 8, 2022 with prompts for each day of the week! Just about anything goes: fanart, fanfiction, fanedits, AMVs, headcanons, you name it, as long as it pertains to Tobecky! Feel free to create anything based on the prompt of the day in whatever way you see fit.
Mods will track the tags #tobeckyweek and #tobecky-week. If you want to participate, please tag your work with either of these tags within the first 5 tags so the mods can find your work! Or you can submit it to us here.
Having trouble? Here's some ideas:
Day 1: Altschmerz
• Something Mr. McCallister said to Tobey when he was little stuck with him, and he vents to WordGirl/Becky about his struggle to overcome that so many years later.
• Becky feels more and more disconnected from her Lexiconian culture and history. Does she trust Tobey with her thoughts on this? Does he help her uncover new details by using his engineering skills on parts of her ship?
• As much as Tobey tries, building robots does not replace friendship. He learns not to lean so heavily on it for fufillment and connects with his classmate Becky Botsford in the process.
Day 2: Des Vu
• Tobey and WordGirl goes on an ice-cream date and have a wonderful time. They think to themselves that they'll cherish this memory forever.
• It's a Tobecky anniversary, and Becky/Tobey wants to make sure it's perfect. Do things go to plan, and was the celebration enjoyable regardless?
• Tobey and Becky/Wordgirl have their first kiss. What is the lead up to this moment? What are their thoughts before, during, and after the moment?
Day 3: Metanoia
• Tobey knows better than anyone how wonderful robots can be, how many uses they have and how helpful they can be to humanity. It turns out that villainy is not as satifying than helping other with his inventions.
• Becky's getting more weary from superhero work. Tobey shows her that maybe breaking a few laws now and then isn't so bad. Maybe it's even cathartic.
• Tobey and Becky/WordGirl get into an arguement. One party learns to put themself in the other's shoes and see the situation from a different perspective, an angle they hadn't considered.
Day 4: Ramé
• One of Tobey/WordGirl's plans/schemes do not turn out as planned, and it results in a very ridiculous but funny situation to be resolved.
• It's time for another Botsford-McCallister dinner, and hijinks ensue. Do Claire, Tim, and/or Sally embarass their kids in front of each other? Does TJ tease them now that their together? After the night is over, Tobey and Becky reflect on how much they enjoyed it, despite how wacky things got.
• Becky's and/or Tobey's friends witness the couples interactions together. Do they seem like characters in a romcom to their friends? Are they sappy? Either way, the friend(s) can't help but come to the conclusion that they are a wild but absolutely adorable pair.
Day 5: Redamancy
• Becky finally feels ready to reveal her secret to Tobey. She wonders if he'll still love her even after learning that she's WordGirl.
• Tobey plans a romantic gesture to confess his feelings to Becky/WordGirl. She loves, appreciates, or is flattered by the gesture, and Tobey is ecstatic to learn that she reciprocates his feelings.
• Becky and Tobey are pining for one another, but don't realize it. Everyone else, however does, and decides to do something about it.
Day 6: Storge
• TJ is not pleased at first to learn that his sister is dating a supervillain, or that WordGirl finally gave into Tobey. He confronts Tobey with the intent of threatening to get back at him if he hurts his sister/his friend, but discovers that Tobey's love for Becky/WordGirl is very real, and he accepts that maybe Tobey won't make sure a bad in-law.
• Time has past; Tobey and Becky have a family now. As challenging as parenting can be, they wouldn't trade their family for the world, and are always there to support each other.
• It's time for another Botsford-McCallister dinner, and hijinks ensue. Do Claire, Tim, and/or Sally embarass their kids in front of each other? How do the parents feel about their kid's new partner?
Day 7: Syzygy
• In an alternative universe, Becky is a goddess of the sun and Tobey is a god of the moon. (Or vice versa!) How did they get together? Do they have a playful rivalry?
• Despite their differences, Tobey and Becky/WordGirl find themselves working together. How do their corresponding strengths and weaknesses compliment each other? Do they succeed in their task?
• It's been a decent stretch of time. Have Tobey and Becky/WordGirl grown apart, and if so, do they reconnect? Or are they married? Do they fight crime together as adults, or have they both retired?

Halo heloo!! Popping in to say if you have any more Wordgirl hot takes? I'm new to the fandom and I saw your post about the opinion meme. (Btww my favorite character is Lady Redundant Woman and I ship Tobecky-- I wonder if you also have unpopular opinions on those mostly cause im curious)
Hi!! Thanks for the ask.
Kinda funny that I'm asked fandom/character questions considering my activity and obscurity, but I have been in the Wordgirl space for 7 years and observed it back in the early 2010s.
As for hot takes...hmm, I could give some since I was watching through the series again, and I recently had some discussions with a friend about Wordgirl stuff. (The Disclaimer, aside from one of the takes I have, these aren't that serious, or do I want to come across as confrontational, just my thoughts and opinions):
Scoops is not a jerk. Random, I know, but it's also connected to the idea of Scoops being this secretly selfish boy and why he's the least liked kid character in the fandom next to idk Eileen. Yes, Scoops is a bit of dunce and can often say or do stuff because he gets carried away or his ego--but he wouldn't straight up be malicious. He's a kid. And idk, I think it's pretty funny how oblivious or callouse he can be to others. But no Tobecky fans, Scoops wouldn't just straight up hate or stop being Becky's friend if she either confessed to him or started seeing Tobey. (I agree that he's such a dummy at times and could say the wrong things, but come on, look at Scoops and tell me he would treat his friends terribly.)
Granny May is funny. I know a lot of people don't like her or her episodes because they hate the gaslight or turn on Wordgirl schemes, but idc I think it's hilarious that this 75 year old is beefing with a child and gets away with manipulating people for the 100th time. Plus, I think it's interesting that her episodes could bring out a Becky that makes us question if she's doing good deeds bc it's the right thing or doing them because it gives her purpose and adoration. Either way, I'm like the only Wordgirl fan who is interested in Granny May character lore, and what exactly is her relationship to her own kids and grandkids. And that's cause she makes me laugh.
(Oh boy, serious time) Okay, so this is a very recent observation and discussion I had with a friend who is more educated on this matter over the entire fandom perception of Two-brains|squeaky. And I'm gonna say it on mine and on their behalf... I don't like the usage of squeaky as this ultimate evil or an overt metaphor for the difficult/bad side effects of mental illness. Like, okay, I know this is touchy for people since Two-brains is the favorite--but I don't like the constant fandom aesthetic sticking to making Two-brains the ONLY character with either DID or any number of serious mental conditions just because he fused with the brain of a evil mouse, especially when their depiction of it is worse than Detroit Become Human with racism. At worst, it could be ablelist and ignorant to people with those actual diagnoses. What do I mean by this? Well, it's mostly for people who think that Steven is still inside Two-brains or that Two-brains could be fixed. I'm one of the Steven is gone believers, but regardless--it's kinda ehh to try and make Two-brains represent someone with mental illness or addiction and just say "dw he can be cured if we kill this other part of himself". Even worse than when he does get "fixed," it's only squeaky's influence that encourages his bad behavior and that others would care for him more if only he got rid of the "problem" and went back to being "normal". Like...that's not how a mental illness/condition works. I should know. And this idea kinda makes me uncomfortable because idk, it's like the equivalent of when TOH was still airing and some ppl going: "Why doesn't eda just isolate or destroy the owl beast?" Or the audacity to say that she should have been fully healed at the end when no, she was a good example of the metaphor, and it would completely ruin the purpose. (Plus, I don't get the Jekyll and Hyde comparisons if you try to apply the mental illness metaphor).
As for the other parts of your question. Hmm do i have unpopular ideas/takes of Lrw or Tobecky?
For LRW, um, not really? She's one of my favorite villains, so I'm good, not really any complaints with her or how she's done in fandom tropes. All I know is that fandom actually makes her cooler somehow, and I get mad about that bc shes so awesome/lhj
For Tobecky...yeah I know, another discussion about them, lol, can't help it. But for unpopular ideas/takes...I guess one is that I don't think Wordgirl was completely terrible during the Miss Power scene with him. Like obviously it hurted Tobey's feelings and Wordgirl shouldn't be so mean, BUT you can't lie to say that if not then...Wordgirl would have blown up at him one day and it's good that Tobey at least knows what she deep down thought of him. I know a lot of people who like Tobey don't think he should be treated badly ever, but no, the kid kinda needs the humbling (the stuff of his appearance was uncalled for though. Like who cares about his drip Wordgirl--he destroys buildings and belittles others 😭 thats the least of his issues.)
Another one is that I don't think Wordgirl/Becky owes him anything just because he likes her and is secretly lonely. Like you can have Tobey as your favorite and want him to be happy, but, to me, it's like don't just make Tobey the one who only gets Becky because he like deserves it after getting mega sad or he "won" her (im saying this as a tobey fan). What's Becky thoughts? Or make her the one to realize why she would be with Tobey? How does Tobey make her happy? And that it's okay that Becky rejects Tobey in a fic or art. It doesn't make her the bad one in the scene or that she's treating him unfairly. (Something I realized in my own fic).

Ok so some of these are kinda embarrassing, but here's some of my misconceptions/confessions about Wordgirl that I can remember
(I wrote so many more but realized half of them were opinions and deleted them, so short list lol. I did keep a couple opinions so it won't be so short though)
-I thought Brent was younger than Chuck (Idk I wasn't paying attention when he said younger brother)
-I thought Reason was wearing a helmet..... I realized like 2 weeks ago it was his hair
-The Wordgirl finale was the first episode I ever watched of it.... so to say I was confused was an understatement (it was what was on the TV at the time)
-Younger me ADORED Reason
-Rhyme and (especially) Reason were my favorite characters when I was younger (My #1 favorite character is Mr.Big now, but I still love them)
-I always thought Mr.Big was like 50-60 and Leslie was like 30 max (technically they still don't have confirmed ages, but I'm pretty sure their age difference isn't that big) <--- this is also the reason I never really got into the ship as much as I probably would have
-I didn't like Captain Huggyface when I was younger (love him now tho, what was wrong with me????)
-Dr. Two Brains is a REALLY good character, but I feel like he overshadows characters who deserve just as much love as him (The Butcher, Hal Hardbargin, and Seymour for a few examples)
-I liked The Royal Dandy, I never really understood why people hated him
