He sat at the lake, no one around.
The little boy kicked his feet in the clear water and looked up at the fluffy clouds. It was peaceful. Dream-like.
He looked around at the forest surrounding him and heard a rustle in the leaves.
“He-hello? Is anyone there?” He picked up his yellow Crocs and a little girl stumbled out of the bushes with cuts and bruises up and down her arms.
They made eye contact. Her eyes were a beautiful blue.
The boy blinked and the girl was no longer there. Almost like a dream.
The boy went home. He sat at the counter while his mom made him Mac and cheese. The TV was set on the news station and the reporter was at the lake the little boy just returned from.
There at the edge of the lake sat his yellow crocs, the caption read:
‘Dead body found at lake. Not yet identified.’
The boy looked down at his arms and kicked his yellow crocs against the counter. A smile spread across his face.

Have you ever noticed that when the villain is about to kill a character and the character is willing to die it makes it 1000x harder for the villain to kill them?
Well, give me a character who is willing to die but instead of a villain redemption arc, give me a villain apprenticeship where the character and villain slowly go more insane together.

At this point the villain stood no more than a foot away.
“Take a step back buddy!” The hero exclaimed. The villain took a large step back.
“A little bit more.” Another large step back.
“Keep going.” Another after another, until the villain stood about 20 feet away.
“Good enough.” The hero said.
But no matter how hard the hero tried, she could never push apart of herself away.
