Thrifting Etiquette
Okay so before I get hate on this, I am not saying that people who can afford retail clothing can’t thrift, thrifting is good, I’m just saying do it in moderation. (This is mainly targeted towards people who can afford new clothes)
1) Stop buying name brand clothes/shoes that aren’t your size and then selling them on eBay/depop??????? Especially if it’s kids clothes?????
Doing this occasionally is fine but when you literally do this to every single piece of clothing you find that’s name brand but not your size is really rude??? Especially if it’s at the thrift store you regularly hit up. It makes it worse if it’s in the kids section. Most young kids who are thrift shopping are 7/10 doing it because of financial reasons and I used to be able to find so much good stuff at the thrift stores in my area (in the kids section) but now it’s obsurdly picked over and all that’s left is worn graphic tees.
2) Maybe do go to the more popular/more known locations???
If you can afford retail price clothes, go to the more well known locations in your area more if you’re going to thrift. Since thrifting is getting popular, the stores are making their prices more (dresses at my local thrift store two years ago used to be a set price of $6 and now they’re $15 because that location got popular) and in some places now some of the stuff is the equivalent to a Forever 21 for pricing. If you go to a lesser known place and then tell your friends about it and they tell their friends, more people will go to it causing the prices to be marked up and screwing the people who need it over.
3) If you’re over the height of 5”5 don’t shop in the kids section????
It doesn’t fit you and you’re buying something that’s too small for you that could be going to a kid who actually needs it. (I’m mostly talking about those people who buy a size kids 6 shirt and are like 5”10 and say they’ll wear it as a “crop top”.)
4) STOP STEALING STUFF OUT OF PEOPLES CARTS.
I’ve watched a lot of thrifting videos, and I have seen youtubers on multiple times just taking stuff from a cart that someone is obviously using and that’s really messed up. You wouldn’t steal shit from someone’s cart at Target so don’t do it at Goodwill.
5) Don’t buy undergarments or even hair pieces (honestly you can risk lice if you want but risking stds and grossness is not advised) at thrift stores.
It’s nasty???? They don’t wash their stuff before it gets put out.
6) If you’re making a YouTube video, it’s really not funny to make comments about “how poor” everyone else looks.
Why would you think this is okay. Even if you aren’t videoing it, don’t be a dick.
7) Salvation Army Is Homophobic and Transphobic.
They’ve denied lgbtq+ people from being in their homeless shelters, at least one trans person freezing to death because of it. They’ve had cases where they’ve made people convert to Christianity in order to have shelter and like to refuse shelter to single mothers. Just be careful who you support ya know?
8) If someone comes up a little short at the register, especially if it’s a family, (if you can do it) maybe help them out.
It’s not necessary, but when my family had to relay on thrift stores this happened a couple times and it’s 1) embarrassing and 2) could mean someone doesn’t get a winter coat or a pair of necessary shoes for a while which could be bad. It could just make someone’s day if you offered to help.
9) Dressing Rooms.
Most dressing rooms at thrifting places are nasty as it is, and it’s not nice to leave your clothes everywhere. Also most thrift stores don’t put what you don’t like back on the rack if you try it on, it gets thrown away, so keep that in mind please.
10) Be a decent human????
Don’t smoke in the building, don’t blast your music on your phone (use headphones it’s not hard), don’t block elderly people from the aisles, don’t remark that every thrift store is “sketchy” in your videos because that’s not true, don’t switch tags, etc.
As I would like to state again, I’m not saying that if you can afford new clothes that you can’t shop in a thrift store, I’m saying do it in moderation and be mindful and respectful. That is all.

Such imports have devastated the local clothing industries and led the region to rely far too heavily on the West.

When I die, give all my clothes to Goodwill because that’s where I got them to begin with. Keep the cycle going.

Found this cute little sucker a couple of months back at an open air flea market. Finally got my lazy ass out and got a new battery for it. I forgot how annoying these things are but I love it.
