If I had a nickel for every time Callum unlocked an arcanum after doing a dark magic spell, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it’s happened twice.
I’m not the only one seeing or being greatly concerned about this, right? Because if Callum is only able to unlock further arcanum after dabbling with dark magic, that further opens the door for Aaravos to manipulate him in the future. Is that trade off worth it? Is it already too late?

If I had a nickel for every time a teenage boy voiced by Jack DeSena in an animated fantasy series proposed a trip to a legendary library to find a key piece of information to help defeat the bad guy, and then stayed too long in said library, endangering himself and his friends in the process, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

I had one request, just one… damn you.
I have one request for 3 pt. 2: please make Jaskier’s fear of Rience pay off. I want a scene with both of them where either Rience just terrorizes Jask some more or Jask faces his fears and destroys that fire freak. Give it to me!!! And then Geralt can kill him.
k, thx, bye.

Let's talk musical tracks from vol 2 that I'm going a little bit insane over:
28. Failure of Judgement - hello friends, I'm here for it
31. Please please please be Yennefer to Jaskier
35. OKAY STOP. This is OBVIOUSLY that song Jask has been singing to Ciri and now Ciri is going to sing it, probably when she's all alone by herself in the desert???? Oh my HEART.
40. Enchanted Flowers - I've been waiting for this song since I read the scene in the book. Joey is going to be amazing.
46. Long Live the King - Radovid become King of Redenia confirmed???
Next week can't come soon enough...

How did Radovid figure out where Jaskier (and Ciri) was? Think about it, the only other people that went the same direction and saw Yennefer meet up with them after the boat was Valdo Marx and his troupe!
Did Valdo give away Jaskier's secret location to Radovid? to Dijkstra? to Nilfgaard???? I smell COLLUSION. 🤣

My personal opinion on this: I think that we’re getting a kinder, gentler take to Jaskier for 2 reason.
Seasons one and two were written close to at the same time, and I do think based on Lauren’s comments about which characters she wanted to highlight, that she was thinking Jaskier would be more like Istresdd, a side character that pops up when the narrative needs him, and not a main character with actual interesting plots. Other characters are dismissive of Jaskier because the audience was really not suppose to care about him more than Geralt, Yennefer or Ciri.
2. Joey has brought in a lot of positive audience approval, something the show desperately needs with how things went down with HC/LH. They’ve leaned heavily on Joey and Jaskier’s popularity in interviews. I personally believe they wrote him more into Blood Origin to get more eyes on it. And honesty, his music brings more money in. It behooves them now in season three to change the tone towards him to be kinder AND give him more screen time because people do watch for him.
So, I think Jaskier’s sexuality isn’t a reason, but because he is more popular than they thought he would be, Joey was given more, let’s call it benefits, to allow him to do more with the character, including sharing these aspects of his sexuality.
IMO, limiting a character to something based just on their sexuality is minimizing all the other aspects of a person and the people around him. I simply think the characters around Jaskier are seeing his actions and reacting more positively because he’s not being just played as a lovable goofball but as a whole person.
Did anyone else notice the tonal change this season in how the writers, and by extension the characters, treat Jaskier now that he’s written as explicitly bisexual/pansexual?
Does anyone else think that the main reason that Jaskier got a more active role in the narrative beyond comic relief this season, that Geralt and Ciri are now written as being kind and friendly with him, appreciating Jaskier and showing love/affection for their friend, that the narrative isn’t constantly mocking him or showing everyone not give a shit about him for laughs, is that the writers didn’t want themselves or the characters to come off like they’re treating the one major gay character as a joke or nuisance, being shitty and cold to him for no reason, just relentlessly beating up the queer guy (who just wants to be their friend and shows concern for them)? I mean, previously the showrunner specifically mentioned that they chose to turn the their friendship into a joke, that Jaskier was kind of deluded idiot thinking they’re friends. Think of how badly the writers and characters treated Jaskier especially towards the end of S2 (being ignored, brushed aside, regarded as useless, and the absolute stupid shit with Yenn’s magic rock that went nowhere), especially in light of him being tortured and losing his lute because of his connection with Geralt in that very same season? There was really no reason to add all the animosity and derision that the characters/writers seemed to view Jaskier with in previous seasons, so I’m not sad it’s gone, I just have to wonder…why now?
Were they worried about what the status quo of how the narrative treats Jaskier would look in light of his sexuality?

Ciri's Choice
Here are 3 times we've seen Ciri try to help people, for better or worse in s3 pt1:
Ciri is the only one that sees the archer aiming for Jaskier. She races towards him, but is too late to stop him firing the arrow (RIP lute)
She sees the future and tries to warn Aplegatt. Yen stops her and scolds her for drawing attention to herself. (RIP Aplegatt)
Ciri frees the (dwarf?) lad from the bounty hunter in Kiera's shop. She saves the boy, but dooms the village. I think this realization will be important later. (RIP Villagers)
At the end of pt1, we leave Ciri asleep in bed, safe behind the forcefield of the cottage, and Jaskier in the barn, doing Jaskier things. Based on these 3 things, I think it's most likely that someone (my money is on Nilfgaard) will try and threaten Jaskier to get Ciri to leave her safe place.
But I don't think she'll do it, even though this is Jaskier and she loves him. Jaskier also loves her and supports her, he will, of course, tell her not to come out and save him. Ciri, seeing how one decision can doom a whole group, will be conflicted, but I don't think she'll come out. I then would guess that Yenn will save Ciri by portal hoping back to Aretuza (out of the frying pan into the fire.)
Geralt will then eventually come for Jaskier, hence the teaser scenes between him and the Nilfgaard soldiers near a caravan.
I'm just saying, I'm seeing the foreshadowing and connecting the dots. (Or I've connected nothing, you decide!)

Why I think Radovid will unintentionally betray Jaskier: a dissertation by me.
First off, I think Radovid has big dreams. I think he believes he is more clever than all of the Redanian Intelligence, his brother and anyone else he's ever met, EXCEPT Jaskier. I think this is what draws him to Jaskier, because Jask sees the world differently, creatively, and he sees the good in people. I think Radovid finally thinks someone is looking at him and seeing him and not the second son of a king.
(More under the cut because I get long winded and not everyone enjoys speculation. I also tend to be wrong, so manage your expectations!)
But Radovid has big plans. I think they include overthrowing his brother, Dijkstra and Phillipia. I feel like he thinks he can do this and then rule and live with Jaskier at court, happily ever after and he's going to do this with the help of Nilfgaard. He gives the White Flame what he wants, Ciri, and Nilfgaard leaves him and Redania alone. Problem solved.
Which is why I think after their tryst in the barn, Radovid will tell Jaskier he has to go back to the party and leave. Yet, when Jask leaves the barn he's going to have a face full of Nilfgaardian soldiers. I'm going with the Nilfgaard army rather than some of our other bad guys simply because of the scenes from the pt2 trailer of Geralt fighting Nilfgaard at some sort of caravan and Jaskier is def. there to the right in a few shots. Whether good old fire fingers and/or Cahir are there is possible, but unknown.
I think Nilfgaard will try and use Jaskier to draw out Ciri, but I don't think it'll work, and I've detailed my reasons in another post and linked them here.
As Nilfgaard threatens Jaskier's physical well-being, I think Radovid will reveal himself and defend Jaskier, claiming hurting the bard was not part of the deal. I think at this point Jaskier is going to feel obviously betrayed, and Radovid will insist he is doing this for both of them. I think they separate with things unresolved, because Jaskier will obviously be angry and Radovid will be defensive.
Cue everything else that's going to happen at Aretuza before Geralt, Yen and Ciri make 3 separate disappearances.
In the books, Dandelion gets help from King Visimir with an escort that leads him (most of the way) to Brokilon Forest. I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar scene, except Radovid is now the King and Jaskier petitions him to secure safe travel. Radovid will agree to smooth things over, because he still loves Jaskier, and he'll also still need Ciri to continue securing his thrown. The best way to find her would be to send Jaskier to Geralt.
It's mostly speculation, but IMO, I think this is the best-case scenario. It would avoid a "bury your gays" or "death for man-pain" plot. It would allow there still to be angst and longing between them, while staying closer to the source material stories, but not making Radovid a mustache twirling evil guy.
What do you think? Am I way off base or right on?

Here's what I know from season 3: King Vizimir makes a pact with Nilfgaard, which Radovid thinks is a good idea, until Phillipia kills Queen Hedwig.
Rience's employer (who we know later is Vilgefortz) has also formed some sort of working realtionship with Nilfgaard, which Rience hates.
In ep 2. Jasier goes to Radovid to tell him about the info that Codringher and Fenn has, assumedly so Radovid can purchase it off them.
Same episode Rience shows up at C&F. Bye bye detectives.
Red flag or Red herring? I can't decide.

Somebody does, the exact person who made Jaskier’s and she’s on etsy. TamanaRodesJewellery
I need somebody to sell a tuning fork necklace like Jaskier’s so I can feel like a slutty bard on the regular.

Yeah okay, it wasn’t backstory, but it did pay off. Yarpen was a treasure in season 3. My favorite foul mouthed dwarf.
I am SOOO happy that Yarpen and the dwarves are back in Witcher season 3, and I hope, please, please make this whole "Julian Alfred Pancratz to Yarpen only" pay off and not be another toss away line. Give me back story between these dorks please.

Yeah yeah, boys are kissing, but more importantly:
How did Radovid find the secret cabin in the woods in the first place? Who cares if he slipped his guard who told him where to go? How did he know Jaskier would even be there? I doubt Jask was just writing the Prince like a pen pal as he traveled around with Geralt. “Sorry we can’t hang, gotta babysit the princess in a cabin in the woods!” Yeah, I doubt that.
So either he over heard it, or a mage divined it, or something. Somebody in this scenario is getting played. I hope for Jaskier’s sake, Radovid has good intentions. Maybe Rience will pop up and use this distraction instead of Redania. Can’t wait to find out! I just hope it actually pays off in a satisfying way.

Thanks for the clarifications! This is good to know, because I was really, really hoping that Jaskier is traveling with the dwarves when they meet up with Geralt, Yenn & Ciri. I've said it before, I'll say it again, I think there's some sort of backstory between Jaskier and Yarpen and I want it to pay off at some point!
Won't stop me from wandering through my thoughts until the episodes come out.
Thinking more about the season 3 timeline:
is the sneak peek from episode one? Like are we actually going to watch Geralt, Yenn, Ciri, Jaskier and the dwarves come down the mountain? And if so, does that mean the dwarves were at the Keep during s2ep8? Where???? Like could they hear the battle and we’re like, “nah, I’m sure it’s fine.”
And if this is episode 1, where did Jaskier get the lute? Did the witchers just have one lying around? And if he already has a lute episode 1, where to the scenes from Blood Origin fit in?
I am confused. Are we going to see Jaskier leave the group, maybe to go with the elves? Does he then get captured by humans? Do the elves save him again? How is he getting back to Oxenfurt to deal with Phillipa?
Congrats, we have entered the moment where I’m trying to piece together the drama and failing. 😆
