Walker Employee, Richard Sigala's Quick Thinking Saves a Man's Life at Jobsite. In June, Walker recognized Network Foreman Richard Sigala for stepping into action and saving another man’s life. While working at the Texas Health Resources Mansfield site in Midlothian, Richard noticed another subcontractor employee lying on the floor convulsing. The worker appeared to be having a seizure. ‍ Richard opened his mouth and saw that he was choking on his tongue.“I turned him over on his side and pulled his tongue out so he could start to breathe and grabbed a small piece of wood nearby to hold his jaw open while waiting for help to arrive,” said Richard. "I yelled so loud for help, staff from the hospital said they could hear me on the other end of the building.” Richard made sure the man was stable and stayed with him until help arrived. ‍ Walker would like to extend our sincerest gratitude for Richard’s commitment to safety and for leading by example. Go-Fund-Me Set-up for Walker Employees and their Families in Time of Need: ‍ As many of you know, there was an incident at a work site in Irving, Texas that has impacted three members of the Walker Engineering, Walker Industrial and Comfort Systems USA family. Tragically, one of the employees (Hernan Murillo) lost his life. Two other employees (Francisco Salazar Contreras and Jose Javier) suffered serious injuries requiring hospitalization. The two injured employees are currently being treated at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. We are relieved to announce that the condition of both employees is stable and improving, but they both continue to be closely monitored. ‍ We have been in contact with all of the families and will continue to offer our support as they move through this tragic event. (Rusty) Walter III Tower. Projects were judged by a distinguished panel of professionals involved in the construction industry throughout Texas. The AGC-TBB will present the awards during the OCA Dinner on August 22nd, in Georgetown, Texas. Outstanding work from the project team in the Houston Division for making this project a success. ‍ About the Project: ‍ The Houston Methodist Hospital North Walter Tower is a new inpatient bed tower and surgical hospital in the heart of Houston's Medical Center. The 22- story structure is nearly 1 million square feet and includes 366 patient beds, neurosurgery I cardiovascular surgical suites designed for image- guided heart and brain procedures. The facility has two intensive care and six acute care floors, as well as a VIP level and helipad. Under General Contractor AECOM/Hunt, Walker performed all electrical installations and an extensive technology services installation package. Walker's technology scope included voice & data cable, fiber optic backbone, access control, CCTV, PA, A/V, DAS, nurse call system, automation, and telemetry. Technology integration accounted for 217,707 labor hours and all electrical installations accounted for over 1,000,000 labor hours making this one of the largest projects completed by Walker to-date. Additionally, the hotel includes a three-meal restaurant and a tech lounge. Designed by Gensler Architects, the hotel incorporates an open-feel with contemporary aspects inspired by the surrounding nature of the Springwoods community.
