A drugged and groggy whumpee desperately trying to escape while the whumper is slowly walking behind them, laughing and taunting them, almost egging them on. ”You can do it,” the whumper says, ”The door is right there. You’re so close to freedom.”

A drugged and groggy whumpee fights against the sleep, dragging themselves towards the open door. Maybe they leave a line of blood behind them. And just as they reach it, the whumper appears, laughs, and closes the door. The click of the lock sounds like a death sentence.

The drugged whumpee is perfectly aware, just unable to move much. It feels like their body is asleep. The only act of rebellion they’re capable of is closing their eyes when the whumper grabs them by the jaw; an unspoken, ”Do to me what you wish, because I’m not afraid of you.”

But this same whumpee then takes back those words as the whumper drags their lifeless body to the middle of the room, straddles them, and wraps their hands around the whumpee’s throat. The whumpee can’t do anything but let their tears flow silently out as the squeeze cuts their access to air and the world begins to darken.

A drugged and groggy whumpee fighting past the effects of the drug, and manages to knock the whumper down. As the whumpee stumbles into a run, desperate to get away, the whumper rises and starts the chase, furious now.

The rescued but still drugged whumpee collapses against a safe friend. The friend’s blood runs cold as they see the bruised needle marks on whumpee’s arms and/or neck. They demand to know what happened and what the whumpee has been given. But the whumpee can’t answer; they know they’re safe now, so they allow themselves to finally pass out.

The whumpee’s withdrawals hurt more than the torture.

Just… drugged whumpees.

Is there anything cooler than a character going feral and turning against their teammates, thus resulting in those teammates having to forcefully restrain (and possibly fight) their companion, who's still trying to attack them in a blind frenzy?

Here's a snippet from my ever elusive CYOA story.

You're pushed out of the way, and one of the guards takes the liberty of cuffing you in advance, keeping you from escaping in the chaos. You wouldn't anyway, you try to tell them, but they just scowl and shove you into the prosecution's empty chair.

High Tide - S1E10 “Revenge is Sweet” - Joey & Mick Barrett

In this episode of High Tide, Joey Barrett, played by Yannick Bisson, is kidnapped by a man that Mick Barrett, played by Rick Springfield, put in jail eight years ago and is back for revenge. He is tied to a post and briefly gagged with duct tape. I love that even when he's been kidnapped, Joey is still always so sassy with his kidnappers, but that mouth of his sometimes gets him into even more trouble. It's better for all of us if that pretty mouth stays gagged ;)

Though Mick is not tied up in this episode, he is held at gunpoint by the bad guy before being knocked out.

(2/2) The 24th Day (2004) - James Marsden as Dan

Dan makes his second attempt at escape after shitting himself overnight and being allowed to clean himself up in the bathroom. He almost makes it away, but is ultimately overpowered and knocked out by Tom. Dan wakes up to find himself once again gagged, this time handcuffed to the armrest of the couch, with his legs and ankles bound with rope. Dan attempts to bond with his captor, but eventually angers him, causing him to be gagged again. We learn the true reason behind Tom's quest for revenge isn't just because Dan gave him HIV, but that Tom subsequently gave it to his wife, who immediately died in a car crash after learning she was HIV positive. Tom blames Dan for her death and wants him to die in return, once the test comes back positive.

Dan makes his third attempt at escape when Tom returns to the apartment, drunk, and wants to be consoled by Dan. Dan attempts to grab the handcuff keys off the table, but Tom catches on and lashes out at him for it. Dan is gagged for a fifth time and remains gagged until Tom receives the test results the next day. Tom walks in with the test and releases Dan from his bindings, telling him he is free to go. Dan thinks this means that he was right, that he was negative, but he is actually positive and Tom has just come to realize that the only person he can blame is himself because he cheated on his wife and then passed it onto her.

If there is one thing I can say about this movie, it's that James Marsden makes a very, very good whumpee. His acting is spot on as you can feel and see the anguish in his eyes. I love how he is bound in different ways throughout the movie and is gagged and regagged five times, with it almost always being an aggressive, anger fuelled gagging.

3. Computer or pen and paper?

COMPUTER. I used to do so much writing by hand (still do a bit but definitely not as much) and it really wrecked my hand and gave me a permanent callus. There's way less strain on my hands from typing and I can write quicker so I opt for computer. Pen and paper now is more for jotting things down quickly before I commit them to an online doc later.

6. Single or multiple POV?

I can't tell if this question is asking "limited or omniscient" or actually just "1 type of POV or 2+ types of POV" so I'm just going to say I typically use a Swapping 3rd Person Limited POV. (ie. 3rd Person Limited where multiple characters have the perspective at different times) I also occasionally do Singular 3rd Person Limited which is the 3rd Person Limited but only ever from the perspective of one character. Omniscient is rarer but I use it typically when I have multiple protagonists who interact a lot, like with my fantasy story.

Really it's the frequency of the swapping that makes a difference in my writing, and that depends on the story and its genre. For my sci-fi story, there isn't a whole lot of swapping because it revolves around mystery and a lack of information.

Basically here's the scale from least awareness to most awareness:

One person limited perspective [Singular 3rd Limited] -> Multiple people each with limited perspectives [Swapping 3rd Limited] -> Multiple people with a shared limited perspective [Specific Omniscient] -> Everyone perspective [Omniscient]

31.  Least favourite part of writing

Descriptions. Which sucks because that's like 80% of writing lol. I just find my descriptions can be a bit disjointed or awkward sometimes. It's difficult to transfer the picture in my head to words on paper (or laptop rather).

(1/2) The 24th Day (2004) - James Marsden as Dan

In this 2004 drama movie, Dan (Marsden) is taken hostage by Tom (Scott Speedman), a man he had a one night stand with five years ago, as Tom believes Dan gave him HIV. Tom tricks Dan into coming back to his apartment, the latter not realizing they had met before, and when he attempts to leave, Tom smashes his head into a wall, disorientating Dan enough for Tom to handcuff him and bind his legs with his belt. Tom then ties him to a chair and gags him with two rotations of black tape. Tom takes a sample of Dan's blood, set on proving that he was the one who gave him HIV. If the test comes back positive, he plans to kill Dan in revenge for ruining his life.

When Tom leaves the apartment (which is secluded enough that no one would be able to hear Dan), Dan attempts an escape by turning on the stove using his chin and knocking a roll of paper towel off the fridge onto the stove, causing a small fire. Unfortunately, Tom returns before a passing downstairs neighbour can discover Dan and he moves the chair over to the couch, tying it there so Dan cannot try another stunt like that again.

A character who's been shot is captured by enemies/bad guys. They're bleeding badly, and their captors need them alive. The bullet is removed, and the wound is poured with alcohol and bandaged tightly - none of it is done gently, and, being tied up (and maybe gagged), they can do nothing but scream and cry out in pain while enduring the rough treatment.
