For the four or five real humans who are following my Tumblr blog: first of all, hello again. Second, the layout of my website has been updated to require less scrolling. I'm saving you approximately one second of scrolling, maybe even 4/5ths of a second. I do this because I care (about your finger(s)).
The aforementioned haven can be found at its usual link:

sometimes you just need to change the paragraph's order, or the sentences, maybe break them in the middle and put other ones back together, bring those scenes to the same time frame, and cut that other bit off... writing truly feels like carving a marble stone for me

Hi. How often do you read fanfiction?
Goodness me, I remembered my Tumblr password and managed to get back in here. Sorry for the delayed response!
To answer your question, I read fanfiction far less than I write it, but I still enjoy reading any compelling stories I manage to find. I think I read an average of 2-3 fics per week? I'd like to read a lot more, frankly, but my standards can be quite the hurdle to overcome!

Hello Again + About My Book...
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, my friends. It's been a while, huh? What a year it's been!
What's that? It's only February, you say?
Well, it sure is! And what a year it's been! Longest January of my life, I tell you.
Anyway, I'm popping in today because I want to talk about my book, The Smallest Sapling. Been a long time coming, eh?
There's a lot that I want to talk about, so if you're interested at all, details to follow below.
So, first and foremost, I want to thank everyone who has ever shown any interest in my writing career. My first book was exactly that—my first. There's more to come, but that's for later. For now, I have some information to share about my debut Fantasy novel.
Even before it was finished, a few people approached me with questions. They wanted to know the process. They wanted to know how exactly one writes a book in [Current Year].
Well, friends, I'm here to give you some news:
Writing the book is the easy part. Everything else? Ha, well... not as simple, I'm afraid. I'm thankful for the challenges I faced, however, and the lessons I learned from them.
Let's start with some stats:
Tumblr media
As of today, February 1, 2024, I have sold twenty books, whether they were digital e-books or physical copies (paperback or hardcover).
Tumblr media
And in totality, this is how much money I've made from my book in that time.
This might be well and good, until you consider...
...I've spent almost as much money on advertising the book itself!
I'm unsure if this is normal for new authors, especially those who self-publish. I'm unsure because, naturally, I've never done this before now. I wanted to take some advice from others before jumping into the deep end, so to speak. Sink or swim; learn as you go! That was my thought process.
I will say, however, that I am very proud of my work and what I've accomplished so far! As I said, I've learned quite a lot. I want to share what I've learned with all of you, especially those who have approached me and spoken to me about wanting to write a book themselves. I'm the first of my friends and acquaintances to do something like this, and I'd like to be a lighthouse for anyone lost at sea.
In a separate post coming soon(?) I want to talk about the writing process itself. That is to say, how to write a book, how to self-publish your book, and I'd like to share advice with my friends, contemporaries, and anyone else who is interested!
And, in the end...
Writing this book was, honestly, not very profitable at all. However, I'm not discouraged in the slightest. This is what I expected, after all.
Something important I learned: I am a little shy when it comes to just talking about my book to other people, even off the web. I know I didn't advertise as much as I could have. That 20 could have been a 30 if I was a little more assertive and little less shy.
This is also why most people try to go the traditional route when it comes to publishing their novels. They get big companies to do the heavy lifting for them, which is commendable, but just as perilous!
(More on that later!)
But whether I made ten dollars, or one dollar, or even no dollars, I don't regret it one bit. The journey is far from over, and I love, with all my heart and soul, every single step I've taken so far. It's a winding path, and my head is held high, and I'm chasing the sun.
I wonder what's at the end?
Let's find out together.
Until next time ❤️

MY ORIGINAL FANTASY NOVEL JUST CAME OUT!
(Graphic design is my passion, amirite?)
A FANTASY NOVEL ABOUT DEATH, DECAY, AND LITTLE WITCHES!
Alma Evergreen lives a quiet life as a carnifex: a death-worshiping, magic-weaving, fancy-speaking little witch. When Prince Benjamin is found dead under mysterious circumstances, Alma is tasked with reaching the castle and solving the new mystery that’s befallen the great kingdom of Moonsong. Joining her is Violet, one of the prince’s faithful fixers, on a quest of her own to ensure Alma reaches the castle swiftly and safely—but can she be trusted? And for that matter, can Alma? THE SMALLEST SAPLING is a feel-good "witchy" fantasy story that is full of humor and heart, and it stands as a testament to the adage that sometimes, the journey can be just as fulfilling as the destination.
I'm so excited to share this with everyone, and I hope you all have as much fun reading this as I did writing it!
I can't wait to create more stories for all of you 💚
You can find the story in multiple formats here!

Gosh, I love how the sepia color theme looks in my book, and I love the page turn effect that Kindle/e-reader has for it! This sort of thing makes me so happy 🎵 the feeling of having my own book available to read anywhere is just... wow!
I can't wait to share this with everyone, just waiting for the publication side of things to hurry along ⌛

we need more unpleasant female characters. not even evil necessarily. jerkwads and basketcases and people who just suck to be around. I want to read about women who I would never want to share a blunt with in a billion years

Authors & Fan Fiction
I'm somewhat surprised by how many authors don't like fan fiction of their own works. Frankly, I would be SO flattered if someone wrote fan fiction of my book(s); if someone took the time to sit down and write out an entire story based off of my work, the work that I'd put myself into, that I'd poured myself into.
Hell, I might write fan fiction of my own damned books when they come out. I wouldn't be the first SFF author to do that, but I'd definitely do it!

Hey, so what's something you hate seeing in fanfiction
Hi, thanks for the question!
The standout to me is poor grammar and spelling, honestly. It's interesting to see what ideas spring to mind for some writers and how they put those ideas "to paper", so there's very little I won't tolerate aside from how difficult it might be to read the story itself!
I've found great, good, bad, even appalling premises for some fanfics that I wanted to read, either out of fascination or (morbid) curiosity, but poor grammar and spelling is likely to make me close the page before I can even get to the eighth paragraph ^^

LIFE-CHANGING: This author discovered you do not have to treat everything like a Final Draft as soon as you start writing it. You can, in fact, edit things MUCH later. You do not, in fact, have to rush through writing/editing/finalizing/editing/publishing all in one go.
WHO'DA THUNK IT?

Hi!! Sorry, I know you orphaned it, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm well and truly obsessed with "The beginning of the long decline". The jokes land so well (the thumb war open...god...) and the description of Lappland's slow decline is just...everything I've ever wanted in a fic. I'd really like to write a short continuation for it, but I figured I'd ask for your blessing first. If you'd rather let dead lupos lie, then I'll follow your wishes.
On an alternate note, I was extremely tickled to see your Robin header because she's my absolute fav AK character! (and the only character I've ever completed a fanfic about, coincidentally, haha) Kindred spirits, perhaps :)
Hi there, thanks for reaching out! If you'd like to continue or "succeed" The beginning of the long decline, by all means! I orphaned the work quite some time ago because I wrote it when I knew much less about the characters than I do now, and I ended up feeling disillusioned with the story and what I'd put down.
Rather than delete the work altogether however, I felt it best to "give it to the fandom" to do with as they pleased, either with continuation or just inspiration :)
Anyway! Please do with the story as you wish! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'd LOVE to see what you compose!
Also HELL YEAH fellow Robin fanatic!

A PEEK at The Book, and a notice on commissions
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, everyone!
It's time for another update on things, I think. I got to thinking it's been a while. First, let's talk about commissions.
They are definitely still going to be on hiatus, but this time, I have no real idea when they're going to open again. The plan right now is to finish the commissions that are currently in my queue, and then pause them altogether for a good, long while. The reason for this is because...
...I'm still working on my first book!
I have a lot of personal projects I'd like to focus on, and my first novel is chief among them. The present release date is set for the last week of November, so that I can finish the darn thing as part of NaNoWriMo.
I'm very excited to continue work on the book. It's changed a LOT over the past couple of months. So much so that I think I'm ready to talk a little more about it, 'cause it sure as hell isn't a horror story anymore.
It's a fantasy story. About a witch.
Tumblr media
Here are the first 300 words of the story :)
Of course, this is still the first draft of the book. It's not presently clear just how different this will be from the final draft (names, formatting, etc), but we can all find out together when it releases in three-and-a-half months.
The working title is The Hunter & The High Priestess.
...name pending. Might be changed later...
But, yes, that's this month's peek behind the curtain!
TL;DR: THE BOOK IS COMING OUT IN NOVEMBER! AND COMMISSIONS WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! THANK YOU! LOVE YOU. MUAH.

Put down 4100 words today, and counting...
Now might be the perfect time to, uh, "take a break"—that thing that people keep insisting I do!
If you're reading this, then good morning, good afternoon, and good evening! Feel free to share your methods of relaxation and re-invigoration between long writing sessions. I think it definitely helps to take a walk...
...straight to the coffee machine, ha ha...
Anyway, I should post on this website more often. Still getting used to blog-form content. I reached 14 followers the other day, which is a little astounding, considering how "low-key" I've been as of late!
I'm looking to find more like-minded writers and authors with a passion for storytelling. These kinds of people are my kind of people. Are you that kind of person? Let's be mutuals!
It might benefit me to be more talkative on here. With a bit more engagement, I should be able to reach a STAGGERING 20 followers!
And then what's next? World domination, probably?
Be seeing you!

if you write a strong character, let them fail.
if you write a selfless hero, let them get mad at people.
if you write a cold-hearted villain, make them cry.
if you write a brokenhearted victim, let them smile again.
if you write a bold leader, make them seek guidance.
if you write a confident genius, make them be wrong, or get stumped once in a while.
if you write a fighter or a warrior, let them lose a battle, but let them win the war.
if you write a character who loses everything, let them find something.
if you write a reluctant hero, give them a reason to fight.
