( I looked in the comments for context on this. ) Rooster Teeths website might disappear, it sounds like. I used to watch a lot of red vs blue with my cousin so I definitely wanna make backups. This crap is exhausting, I'm still trying to back up gmod add-ons after nintendo's recent tantrum, now I gotta worry about an old machinima series, too!
edit: Here's a good-looking archive of red vs blue stuff from internet archive, found in the comments.
and another one!
I don’t care whether you like rooster teeth or not the idea of deleting 21 years of media should be incredibly concerning
ARGH okay, so...does anybody know when someone in a comment section mentions you, you wont' see their full post when you click the notification? This has happened to me three times now, and it makes me sad because I can't see when people are trying to talk to me. I double checked to make sure I wasn't blocked or that they were blocked, so I don't know why their comments won't show up...this has happened to my wife on her account, too.
@staff
link to the post where I can't see this person's reply to me, in case anyone else can see it?
Here is a post containing backup links to the files removed from the workshop!
I'm really hoping there's a Birdetta model somewhere in here, because I noticed she was completely gone from google results and the workshop. Nintendo won't stop dead-naming her and trying to bury the fact that she's trans, but they'll sure put forth the effort to stop you from making a cute gmod image of the character. 🙄
yayy got my @startrekwintergiftexchange gift done! :) it's for @dustydahorse who wished for picard with horses. they're hanging out after picard braided the horse's mane!
(okay, now that I'm home from work, I can actually edit this!)
So yeah, this sucks, but thankfully you can make backups of gmod mods from the workshop, you just have to do some extra steps to extract and manually install the files.
First pick your mods on the steam workshop, subscribe, let them download, then run gmod. It will auto-install the addons in your garrysmod/addons folder.
But you're not done yet! Even though you can see the files in explorer, the game wont' detect them unless you're currently subscribed to thme on the workshop. If the items on the workshop go kaput, well....that will probably be bad news.
So, here's a handy site I found that shows you how to extract all those gma files in your addons folder to be in a usable format for the game without needing the workshop! Thankfully the software for extracting these files comes included with gmod itself, you just need to search for "gmad.exe" in your game folder.
Now, you can do your part to help keep 20+ years of gmod mods safer for the future!
Update: I discovered a forum thread with links to backups of the removed mods, as well!
