Academic advice that you must remember while you follow the "aesthetic"
romanticising school and studies by using aesthetics (i.e. Dark academia, art academia, chaotic academia, etc) is really helpful for motivation, but there are many things you must keep inmind
★ Stop romanticism of insomnia. I mostly blame dark academia fanatics for this (not all, but most). in order to remember what you have studied properly as the brain absorbs the information you studied while your sleeping and it maintains a good mental health. Put an end to the "sleep is for the weak" mindset. Cause no sleep actually makes you weak.
Tumblr media
★ stop worrying about not having aesthetic notes with colourful pens, heading and doodles like you see in the "study with me videos". It doesn't matter how it looks, as long as you understand, that's the whole point of having notes in the first place. To study, it's not an assignment or project for you to spent hours switching between pens and markers.
Partly people are so deep focused on making everything look "aesthetic" and forget to study, which was supposed to be the main priority.
★ if you get a bad grade once in a while, don't get demotivated. Sometimes no matter how hard you study you won't get the result you want, it might sound cliché but all you can do is try again. No matter how good someone's grades are, these is always a moment where they get a low grade for wherever reason, instead of taking that as a cue to give up, take it as an opportunity to bounce back
(remember, some study hacks may work for some people but it won't work for everyone, so try to find a method that's best suitable for you)
★ Put you phone away when your studying, it's a huge distraction (wow mom was right) now, if you study materials are in your phone or you study though YouTube, the i suggest you trun of you notifications of social media apps (i.e YouTube, Instagram and even Tumblr)
Also not a study advice, but avoid using your phone when your eating, pls it's for you own good, and stop creating fake scenarios when you sleep, it's the reason you can sleep dummy

at the beginning of last term i let a girl in my dorm borrow my copy of the secret history and later she gave me a tie with men hunting deer on it, like the one richard has in the book.
turns out the most effective way to make friends is to be a nerd

How to not feel bad about bad grades!
1. Remember you are not your notes or grades, It doesn't define you.
2. You can always do better the next time, learn from your mistakes and get better from your failure
3.You are allowed to feel bad but don't let get into your head and ruin your day. Do things to clear your head (watch a movie, write, hang out with friends, anything that makes you feel good)
4. Rest!! take time for yourself
5. Implement a new method for studying, Spent more time practicing or reading about the subjects.
6.Learn how to deal with frustration,( and Im sorry to tell you this but to have a resistance to failure you have to fail ,and learn from that.)
7. Don't compare yourself to other people.
And remember its not a big deal, a note or grade its not who you are, It doesnt matter if you fail because you can always try again and if someone makes you feel bad about failing, don't listen to them! I spent too much time feeling bad about failing a test so, I wanted to give advice that has helped me overcome that feeling!
Love ya!

🧡 academia >> studied for 2hrs 50, chem and maths, did a practice practical exam today and I felt fairly confident (I didn't look at the paper we did too closely before the test), I've almost finished going over all of my chemistry notes before I start trying questions
🧡 physical health >> Did some pushups and more pistol squats
🧡 self care >> drank some tea, water and hot chocolate, read more (The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky), drew, listened to songs that fit my mood and let myself take a 'rest'
☀️ 7.15 🌙 22.20
-> the 'rest' was more music and social media because one of my teachers told us today that she's leaving this year for a job closer to home, and I'm actually very sad about that. She was my form tutor last 2 years and was supposed to take us back this year, and then again have us next year. She also teaches math really really well, she's so helpful and just geniuenly so nice and lovely. I will really miss her. And then one of my friends was saying how that's the second teacher they know and actually like that won't be teaching them next year whenever they were supposed to (there was so much more drama with teachers this year too...) and that they only didn't move school because they knew those teachers and the fact that they taught well. I don't know if A is considering moving next year now but they might be... And I don't want them to leave... We don't talk much outside of school but I've gotten quite close to them and they're a great friend and actually quite inspirational to me. I really respect them. Plus they're also looking to move to another country for uni so that's even less time I'll be able to spend with them before that happens...

Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1
The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.
So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.
So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.
Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.
And the probe is working again.
From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

Toxic romanticization of studying
In a word of introduction, my profile partly shows that studying and exploring is wonderful. But as a person involved in science*, I would like to show healthy and true patterns of this beautiful adventure in acquiring knowledge.
The inspiration for writing this post this time was not the phenomenon from Tumblr (although you can also observe it here), but from Pinterest. There you can come across cycles composed of quotes and photos whose aim is to motivate young girls to learn, succeed and get good grades. These images often also show examples of characters from movies, TV series or real life that you can aspire to be like. Overall, I have to agree that it really works! But I would like to draw attention to certain elements that need to be verified.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. You shouldn't get up at 5am
First of all, the correct amount of sleep is one of the most important factors affecting the proper and effective functioning of our brain. During sleep, nerve cells regenerate, organize information acquired during the day and consolidate memory traces, which is directly related to learning. Lack of sleep increases impulsivity, deepens negative thinking and slows down the body's reaction time!
2. You can be a genius without good grades
Of course, good grades are a pleasant confirmation of our knowledge and praise for hard work. However, sometimes it is worth considering whether the structure of exams themselves, especially those with closed questions, sometimes affects the results. We often study for one specific exam, the knowledge of which may be very… limited and sometimes not useful, so it is worth prioritizing the topics that we study hard.
3. It's not cool to think you're better than others
We are different and have different priorities in life. It is also worth considering how many people escape from the rat race and start a slow, stress-free life. So we have to agree that judging people based on grades or responses under stress (sic!) is not cool.
The good thing about romanticizing studying
As I have already said, these types of collages are really motivating. So let's talk about what's great about them and what's worth highlighting and saving for later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Knowledge is beautiful, but your outfit and surroundings can also be
We know that we should never judge a book by its cover, but… the issue of social perception painfully confirms that we do and will continue to do so because this is how our brains work. And isn't it nice when someone looks at us and thinks this girl is so classy?
Moreover, a nice outfit that makes us feel good gives us a lot of self-confidence. There are also many studies confirming the positive impact on motivation and concentration of a neat and aesthetic workplace.
2. Not just cramming, but also discovering
Broadening your horizons is easier with passion and real commitment. And to achieve this, the topics must really interest us. Not everyone has yet found something that they are extremely passionate about in science, so that is why you have to dig deeper and discover different areas.
3. Don't be afraid to use your knowledge in practice
Schools and universities, unfortunately, have their own rules and they do not always allow you to show your 100% potential. Thus, share your knowledge with others externally, write essays, blog and social media. This form of activity also makes you learn things faster and easier. In addition, contacts with others will expand your knowledge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Therefore, I must say that it is worth choosing your inspirations carefully. Nothing helps you enjoy studying better than a clear head and lack of prejudices.
*This post was inspired by my own experience with studying. If anyone is interested, I think I can share my mistakes that did not help me in an academic adventure :)

don't study because you need to. study because knowledge is power. study because they can never take it away from you. study because you want to know more. study because it enhances you. study because it grows you.

My birthday is coming soon and I want to prepare for it. I'll try to be more productive and get as much done as I can before I can fully relax and celebrate. Today I created a template for tracking progress and built a plan of what I want. Now I need to find the strength to stick to the plan. I've been exhausted and in a bad mood for the last few days, so it's hard to find some energy. Even under such conditions, I need to try and I will do it

Productivity: ♥︎ Work on my thesis (1:15 h) ♥︎ Created template for xTiles
Habits: ✘ 6 hours of sleep ✔ yoga ✔ good meals ✔ journaling ✔screen time < 3h.

I did a bit of forensic work and ignored the essay I have due in 3 weeks 🥲
I haven’t really been doing the best mentally so I’m taking it all one step at a time (studying enough to keep me from falling too far behind, but not enough to burn me out). Friendly reminder: there is no shame in prioritising your mental health!
And yes, my pen is shaped like a syringe (it used to have red liquid inside but it dried up :/)
