Nova & Star-Lord being two different flavors of tragic veterans under Abnett & Lanning really sticks with me.
Pete’s been serving for so long that all the hard stuff is commonplace, but he’s tired and desperate for an ending. Rich had enough really bad shellshocks and was forced to change so fast it isolated him from almost everyone he knew.
Both of them only find community amongst their fellow soldiers against Annihilation.

Rereading through Dan Abnett’s Inquisition novels and there’s an eight-legged tiger in Ravenor. What’s it called? A ‘spiger.’
10/10 naming, had to draw it.

I can't help but notice how similar the descriptions of Richard's condition from the Phalanx virus and the plague are.

"Rogal Dorn suddenly towered behind them. 'Does Sigismund deserve a slap, Captain Torgaddon? Probably. In the spirit of comradeship, let him be. He bruises easily".
"Horus Rising" by Dan Abnett.
Sounds like he knows what he's talking about.
Sometimes I think they do it intentionally, somewhat taunting us.

Abnett has my exact thoughts on Mera, he's so valid
Tumblr media
(from Aquaman: the search for mera Deluxe HC)
Text if it''s hard to read:
We also see Mera, and the bond he shares with her. Aquaman has never had an extensive supporting cast or rogues gallery, but Mera is a singular character. If Aquaman has suffered over the years from a bad representation in popular culture that has diminished his status, then Mera is perhaps the most neglected character in the DC universe. She's strong, proud, fierce and compassionate. She's every bit Aquaman's equal (in fact, it has often been a challenge to make sure she doesn't eclipse him in his own comic). Their partnership is an unusual thing. It's as strong and important to Aquaman as Superman's relationship with Lois. But Lois and Kal have been, historically, dynamically divided by the fact that Lois doesn't know Kal's other identity. Mera, however, knows Arthur through and through. She and Arthur are partners in life, in action and in intention. She is not a foil or a girlfriend: she's a vital character in her own right. I honestly believe you'd be pressed to find a more undervalued character in the DCU, and these days it's delightful to see her getting her due recognition, too: a principal role in the movie, a series of her own and a place on the Justice League roster that doesn't depend on Aquaman being present.

“My dear Commissioner… I can only pray that you read this statement of mine safe in the knowledge that this strange case is closed forever…
“I affirm that my only intent had been to heal poor Harvey and restore to us the good, true man we all knew. The distillation I made to this end had wondrous powers, but I should have never tested it on myself… for it polarized the extremes of my nature, extremes that usually held each other in check.
“At first, my good self was brought forth, strong and vigorous and upright. But just as night follows day, the evil matter of my soul was able to manifest itself, pure and foul and unrestrained. The Bat-Man… the Joker… good and evil… two sides of a human coin. This is what my potion created.
“For Harvey, already split, I am sure it will be a genuine cure. But for a normal, balanced man… James, I pray that you and God will forgive me.
“Bruce Wayne, Gotham,
Anno Domini 1886.”
From Batman: Two Faces (1998), written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, art by Anthony Williams and Tom Palmer.
