Sorry, im kinda freaking out beacuse i read on positive news that the un published a paper saying the earth might warm up above 3° degrees if we dont take massive action :(
I thought the predictions were now between 1,5° and 2 ? Sorry for my bad english it's just upsetting
I totally get it. Of course that's upsetting.
As for the predictions, the thing is, there are a bajillion variables in these models - around human action, around different country's actions, and around all of the many, many, many things about the weather and ecosystems that we don't understand.
For scientists, part of their job is modeling and predicting the entire realm of possibility.
You're right that most people/sources don't think warming will get that high anymore. Core predictions are right now mostly between 1.5 and 2.5, with a lot of mainstream predictions saying that if we stay on the current path, we'll likely end up peaking around 2.3 degrees. Which would suck, admittedly! And 3 degrees or a bit more is still within the realm of possibility, which also sucks!
For what it's worth, though, I genuinely think we'll be able to keep warming under 2 degrees. To my research/understanding, right now 3 degrees is possible but a lot less likely - one of the less likely predictions in general, or else a lot more scientists would be saying 3 degrees, and we'd all hear that number all over the place and be scared.
Edit: I did find the UN report that the article was presumably referencing. And yeah, I hate to see it. But again: WE DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE. Iirc the last IEA report said we're on track for 2.3. The exact methodology and models can change a lot about the end result, so it's very common for reports to disagree, and at this point, I do think "over 3 degrees" is an outlier. And that's if we stay on the current track - WHICH IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY, BECAUSE WE'RE GETTING BETTER AND FIXING MORE THINGS WITH EVERY YEAR
Anyway, here's why it's no longer likely that we'll hit or surpass 3 degrees of warming, and why you can and should still have hope.
Climate change is growing exponentially. We know for a fact now that renewable energy, electric vehicles, costs of renewable energy, etc. are all improving way, way faster than ever before. And they're going to keep doing that. Over the rest of the decade, I genuinely think we're going to make so much more progress, so much faster, than models are currently predicting. Partly because we've only in the past couple years gotten proof that these paths ARE exponential. x, x, x, x, x
It would be super irresponsible of climate scientists and energy watchdogs to be optimistic with their numbers/outcomes. They KNOW how many politicians and oil companies would swoop in the SECOND there were . claims that we'll be fine without doing more, actually. Their job is to always make sure that someone is including the worst case scenarios, and that they don't start giving more optimistic numbers unless they're really, truly, completely confident in those numbers and improved models
The peak temperature we reach is NOT the temperature that we'll be stuck at forever. As we keep putting carbon back into ecosystems and restoring nature, we WILL take more carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, which WILL let the planet start to cool back down again, as less carbon dioxide is in the air to trap heat, and more of it will go back to escaping into space. This probably won't be immediate after we hit net zero emissions, but if we drawdown enough carbon, it will happen. x, x, x

New Record
On Monday and Tuesday, the Earth experienced the hottest Global Temperature recorded.
How much hotter must it get for something to be done? How many ecosystems must be damaged? How many people have to suffer? How much more?
Are fossil fuels really worth all this damage? Is it so inconvenient to change our ways that we are willing to let the world burn? Is it really worth it?
What will it take for there to be change?

WILL GLOBAL WARMING TRIGGER A NEW ICE AGE?
Tumblr media
The Ice Age cycle is global in nature and occurs in phase in both hemispheres. It profoundly affects distribution of ice over lands and ocean, atmospheric temperatures and circulation, and ocean temperatures and circulation at the surface and at great depth.
Over the past three million years, the Earth has periodically plunged into an ice age. Although the planet is now in an inter-glacial period, the situation can change due to increased global temperatures, scientists say.
The current increase in global temperatures may disrupt the ordinary ice age cycle because the Southern Ocean is likely to become warmer and prevent icebergs from travelling far enough to change ocean circulation patterns in a way that triggers an ice age.
The action of the Great Conveyor Belt in defining ice ages was discovered only in the last decade. Preliminary computer models and scientists willing to speculate suggest the switch could flip as early as next year, or it may be generations from now. It may be wobbling right now, producing the extremes of weather we've seen in the past few years.
What's almost certain is that if nothing is done about global warming, it will happen sooner rather than later

Simple Tips - US Heatwave
I've become oversensitive to heat and will often suffer heatstrokes. Here are a few things I use, to cope and carry on:
▪️Own a dehumidifier. This is healthier, cheaper and more eco-friendly than an A/C, and will cool down your home. You will also breathe more easily.
▪️Keep your hair wet (and up). This will take away a lot of discomfort.
▪️Avoid caffeine. Add electrolytes to your drinking water. Stay hydrated.
▪️Run your errands at dawn or after dusk. Avoid high sun. Some shops will stay open late.
▪️Close the curtains or blinds on your windows. It shuts out the light amplified by glass that heats up the home.
▪️Shut windows and doors, *if you have a good fan or dehumidifier. Your home will stay cooler. Open them again after dark but only if it's cooler outside. If not, keep your ambiant air as is.
▪️Do your housework only after dark or early in the morning. Avoid any exertion while the sun is up.
▪️ Take cold showers.
Good luck folks. (Bearing in mind the use of A/C's promotes heat domes, it's really good to switch over to dehumidifiers.)

Large parts of Europe are warming twice as fast as the planet on average. The climate across the continent has also become drier, particularly in southern Europe, leading to worse heat waves and an increased risk of fires.

How to keep the 1.5° goal alive?
Tumblr media
The WMO State of Global Climate report reminds everyone of the urgency to tackle the climate crisis. Everywhere in the world, people are already suffering from the negative impact of climate change. Rising temperatures, extreme weather, ocean heat and acidification, ice and glacier retreat affects human health, economies and ecosystems. Science shows that negative impacts are increasing and some changes risk being irreversible.
Climate action is essential to sustainable development, including good health, access to water and sanitation and freedom from poverty and hunger. There is no avenue for human development without prioritizing climate action. The Paris Agreement on climate change laid the ground to design robust climate action through the nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and the ratcheting mechanism that obliges governments to review and enhance their goals every five years.
Everyone agrees on the need to abide by the lower 1.5° target of the Paris ambitions.
Can we still reach it and under which conditions?
How is it that despite scientific evidences and a wealth of climate data, public policies are not going faster and wider?
What is expected from the different actors – including the public, corporate and financial sector?
How do young people have a say in increasing climate ambition and contribute to moving the needle?
Read here the speakers' bios.

Those believing that climate change is the greatest danger to the world, have said they're intent on altering our traveling in the future to reduce people's carbon footprint.  Climate alarmists believe it's necessary to reduce America's standard of living by over 85 percent.  They want to force everyone to have personal carbon allowances.  If adopted, carbon passports will restrict how often we're permitted to travel.  This video looks primarily at tourism and airline travel.  The carbon emission alarmists want these restrictions by at least 2040!

Warming water pushes endangered whale toward deadly boats
Warming water pushes endangered whale toward deadly boats
North Atlantic right whales are some of the most endangered marine mammals on the planet. Threatened by shipping collisions and tangles with fishing nets, fewer than 400 individuals are thought to exist in the wild today. Now, scientists are adding climate change to its list of dangers. Recent studies suggest that warming ocean waters are shifting the tiny crustaceans that right whales like to…
