Angela Baker, a shy, traumatized young girl, is sent to summer camp with her cousin. Shortly after her arrival, anyone with sinister or less than honorable intentions toward her gets their comeuppance.
I specifically kept away from the “typical” films, everyone expects nightmare on elm street and Friday the thirteenth. I wanted to stick with underrated slashers that aren’t mega franchises.
alright, so before I voice my opinion on the Angela debate, I want to talk about the rest of the film. This movie gives me the cheesy, campy, slasher vibes I love that the 80s are well known for. overall, it's a feel-good movie in a similar vain that friday the 13th is. the set is beautiful through he film. While the characters seen throughput the movie are pretty 1 dimensional and feel like they're nothing else other than their assigned trope, they're captured in a way that their sterotypes are too overdone. an interesting thing about this film is that the victims are either only shown post mortem or killed off-screen in a way that leaves a lot up to the imagination. and while the makeup is goofy looking by today's standards, it looked pretty good for the time Era. And now, for my thoughts on the ending and Angela as a character. Mega spoiler warning!!! I understand that the big reveal that Angela is a man was a super surprising never vefore seen plot twist in tye 80s, howvwers it's aged really poorly. I don't think someone's sex should ever be the big end of the film shocker, especially in the way it's used here. Do i think Angela is Trans? I think it depends on whether you're talking about their character in this as well and the following adaptations. However, just to keep things simple, I'll just be talking about this film as a stand-alone. I think that "Angela" was a young child who suffered a traumatic head trauma during an accident where they watched their entire family die a horrible death, only to be thrust into the hands of a mentally unstable aunt who forces them into living under the identity of thoer dead sister. They never had a choice in tye matter and I really think that it's one of the reasons they kill. They have to live with the tranua of the incident silently while being forced to live as someone they aren't, and handle the pressure that comes with being a woman. they're preyed apoun by a pedophile who loves little girls, her cabin makes make fun of her for not looking like them, the first person who is nice to her besides her cousin won't stop trying to make advances on her ect... I would have loved to see a movie where Angela was Trans because she WANTED to be, and it had nothing to do with why she kills. Despite the controversy, I do still love this film and would recommend it
