i was just talking about this after being wrecked by the discovery that the little elf-goblin fellows my parents/family used to tell me warnings and stories about as a little kid are regionally specific, and that you can trace people's geographic origins by what word they use for "little spirit-fellows who live in your house". no matter what you call them (domovoi, kobolde, brownies, so on); for purposes of this post henceforth "little guys"

i think one of the things that i find frustrating about like, idk, modern animist revivalist movements is that very few of them ime spend a lot of time romanticising and spiritualizing human habitation. obviously, we as a culture need to think more about protecting and defending nature/the earth/so on, but like.

if you don't have room in your heart for making up a little guy who lives in the water heater, or who squats under your stove and makes it run 15 degrees off the programmed temperature, and thinking of him with the same kind of respect/affection as you do for the spirits (or whatever) of the wildlife you interact with like.

genuinely: what are you even doing. you are removing a source of richness and fun and whimsy from your life! like, pip @creekfiend made up the concept of "little guys who live in an airport (and are the reason it's so shitty to be in an airport)" and i already like airports like 30% more just knowing it's the little airport inconvenience guys doing that.

more importantly, like. genuinely: interrogate what parts of the world seem ~rich with spiritual meaning~ to you. what parts of the world are "wild"? what does that make the rest of the world - a chore? a burden? who has to carry that burden?

we're never going to like, "return to nature", because that's nothing and the concept of untouched nature is also nothing; we're always going to have some sort of human habitation and interaction and cultivation with nature. if you can't extend grace and whimsy and genuine and sincere meaning to human habitation, including its inconveniences and annoyances, you are making your own lived experience duller!

notably, most of these kinds of little-guy-spirits historically exist in the parts of human habitation that are partially abandoned, partially removed: haylofts, inside the walls, under the house, in the bathhouse, behind the furnace... i've been thinking a lot about urban wildlife lately, and the animals who make space for themselves in and around human habitation. the "natural" and the "wild" persist inside and around the edges of the "tame" and always, always have. if you have a crawlspace, there's a little spirit who lives there and he's the reason the dryer always eats your socks.

When I first realized I was trans, I never thought I would make it past 18. I'm now going to be turning 25 this year, almost a year into my first-ever full-time job (another thing I never thought was possible). While my physical and mental health haven't been great, I'm glad and thankful every day of my choice to transition and live with myself as I truly am. And I'm glad to show people that two-spirit people and LGBT Muslims exist and can live happy lives. Shout out and love to my fellow two-spirit folks and my fellow trans Muslims, any future with us in it is a bright one 🧡🏳️‍⚧️

Sci in the short time Uncle Ben was around -- or even if he'd lived longer -- would he have known that Peter is Spiderman?

this is such a delight of a question! what a delightful little thought experiment. thinking about a scenario where uncle ben was still around when aunt may finds out peter is spider-man – when she finds peter's tights, when he was seventeen.

i think there's no way at all that aunt may wouldn't have told uncle ben. she definitely would have told him. i don't think uncle ben would've been observant enough to figure it out by himself, but – aunt may, she's smart. she figures it out.

may and ben have such entirely different ways of handling peter

ben's old-fashioned, a bit square (like peter), and not very well-informed. he worries a lot about peter. worries about him getting into trouble. sees his unusual behaviour, and meets it with soft concern. he doesn't understand it all, he doesn't understand the youth. but he has a desire to embrace peter and attempt to understand him. he worries about him a lot.

may - may's always been the cool parent. she's encouraging, and very easy about this sort of thing. i think she has a lot of trust in peter. maybe more than she should. she is well-informed, and smart, and she recognises behaviours in peter and kind of feels like it's nothing to worry about. she knows peter's doing all the important exploration that he needs to do, and he'll do it at his own time. she thinks peter can handle it.

(of course peter could not handle it.)

i think that's why aunt may didn't confront peter about spider-man. i think she's of the feeling that peter would come out to her when he's ready to. but - she'd definitely tell ben. and if uncle ben knew - well, oh. he would be worried out of his mind.

god bless, it would come out of such a place of concern. and he'd talk to peter. in the most awkward way a father could give his son the talk.

Like for real I am always one to strongly recommend wearing shit that shows off what you like and ignoring anybody who has anything to say about that, but also...you know a white cotton T-shirt and a pack of Sharpie markers are your best friends, right? And a quick trip in the dryer on high heat once you’ve drawn on the shirt will set the colours, right? If you’re feeling adventurous, you can get puff paint in many exciting neon colours. I picked up a bottle of additive to turn regular acrylic paint into fabric paint at my local dollar store, which also has a wide selection of acrylic craft paints. Heck, you can use just regular acrylic paint straight out of the bottle on heavier-duty fabrics, like denim. I have a whole bunch of hand-painted band patches made out of old pairs of jeans. Or you can paint directly on a denim jacket or a pair of pants, if you’re feeling it. 

If you want replica merch and your poison of choice is a Hellfire Club shirt, go fully in-universe and paint your own. Stick it to Netflix and Hot Topic. Become ungovernable. Be your own weirdly-endearing punk little freak.

one of my favorite things about a glitch in time is that like. okay so for most of the fandom’s conception i think people have generally agreed that vlad cloning danny should’ve been a point of no return on their character dynamic right. that’s seemingly what people tend to glean. i’ve read fics from as early as like 2007 that include vlad going completely off the rails in response to kindred spirits. countless fics from any given phandom era of danny holding the clone thing over vlad’s head like it’s his job and the rent’s due.

and then in a glitch in time we get danny being like is that another goddamn clone. and we see a clone floating in (what i can only assume is) synthetic amniotic fluid. and vlad’s like oh yeah i guess i did leave that there for what was it like five-six months. and they’re all like oh vlad you rapscallion

Winter in Spring

Danny was not a spirit of the seasons, he didn't have any idea if those kinds of spirits existed out of movies, what he did know was that for some reason the flowers were behaving rather strangely in one particular dimension right at the beginning of spring. And although he certainly didn't want to affect the place he knew he had to investigate it.

From what it seemed: strange plants that glowed just like those born in the Infinite Realms were appearing in Gotham and coming to life on their own. At first he suspected Undergrowth but the Ancient was offended by the accusation and commented that he was too busy in his haunt to care about a random city. Which turned out to be true.

Then he thought that maybe it was fine: the bright flowers seemed harmless (although they were very very...alive?) and didn't hurt anyone. That was until a red-haired girl seemed to upset them and they started attacking everyone around them; unfortunately, because they were ghost flowers they could dodge attacks very easily and the "heroes" couldn't defend themselves.

So, with no other options Danny traveled to Gotham and well, to put it simply he became a fake winter spirit; what else was he supposed to do? He needed an alibi and to spread ice as quickly as possible. Telling Gothamites that winter was coming early because of him was the least of his problems.

What he didn't expect was that after turning the city into a wasteland of ice and snow (and saving them from the invasion of ghost flowers, you're welcome), some guys in bat suits would start following him around with questions. He also didn't expect one of them to stare at him and ask if he'd be back in winter, he wondered if faking his identity was a good idea.

#dpxdc #fake winter spirit Danny #He needed a way to get Gotham to believe him quickly #and according to Clockwork strange things always happened in Gotham #In addition to the fact that supernatural things existed in that dimension #So taking that into account #pretending to be a winter spirit had to go well. #Except that the bats didn't believe him at all. #Danny is a little offended #he is technically a spirit #and has an ice core #so technically speaking he is not lying #one of the bats fell for his lie tho #or maybe the bat just fell in love with him #dp x dc #dc x dp #The ghost flowers were born due to the combination of some Ivy seeds falling into the lazarus pits under Gotham #or rather corrupted ectoplasm and slightly modified seeds #the plants were very alive #and at the same time very dead #Ivy obviously altered them to attack Gotham in general #She was a little frustrated and didn't think it would do that much damage #Without Danny's ghost ice they wouldn't have been able to survive
