Sebastian Stan Joins Julianne Moore In ‘Sharper’ Con Artist Pic From Apple Original Film & A24
Tumblr media
EXCLUSIVE: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s leading man Sebastian Stan will star alongside Oscar winner Julianne Moore in Apple Original Film and A24’s Sharper, we can tell you first.
Sharper follows a con artist, played by Moore, set in Manhattan’s billionaire echelon. The pic is based on the spec screenplay by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, which was recently named to the 16th annual The Black List. Stan will play Max, a clever conman known for carrying out complicated plans and making away with large sums of money. In the film he’s pulled into another scheme.
Emmy- and BAFTA-nominated Benjamin Caron (The Crown, Sherlock) is directing. Moore will produce alongside Bart Freundlich, Gatewood, Tanaka and Erik Feig and Jessica Switch of Picturestart. Julia Hammer of Picturestart will serve as EP.
Stan is beloved for playing Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His MCU movies which include the Captain America trilogy and Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame have together grossed $7.08 billion worldwide. He recently starred in the first season of Disney+/Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reprising Barnes; the series’ premiere and finale are ranked among the most-watched for Disney+ at 1.6 million households (3-day) and 1.7M households (5-day) per streaming analytics company Samba TV.
As an actor, Stan has transitioned from the MCU to character-driven stories. He wraps production this week on Hulu’s Pam & Tommy which will come out next year. He also has the film 355 coming out on January 7, starring opposite Jessica Chastain. He also has Fresh with Daisy Edgar Jones which will also come out next year for Legendary. Other feature credits include the Oscar-winning I, Tonya and the Nicole Kidman cop noir feature Destroyer among others.
Stan is repped by CAA, Brookside Artist Management and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Sharper reps Moore’s second project with Apple following the limited series Lisey’s Story, a deeply personal thriller from creator Stephen King, in which she stars and executive produces. It is currently streaming globally on Apple TV+.
In addition to Sharper, Apple and A24’s feature film partnership includes The Tragedy of Macbeth, the latest film from Oscar winner Joel Coen and starring Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand; On the Rocks, from Oscar winner Sofia Coppola and starring Rashida Jones and Bill Murray; the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize winner Boys State, which is nominated for two Primetime Emmys; and the upcoming YA adaptation The Sky is Everywhere, directed by Josephine Decker and starring Grace Kaufman, Cherry Jones and Jason Segel.

Boxing On.
Chick Fight star and former competitive figure skater Malin Åkerman tells Gemma Gracewood about the meditative power of boxing, how Margot Robbie inspired her to become a producer, and her adoration for Tilda Swinton.
One of film’s earliest preserved specimens is The Gordon Sisters Boxing (1901), a 90-second curio in which sisters Bessie and Minnie Gordon go at it with boxing gloves, in full petticoats, in front of a genteel scene of a formal garden with fountain centerpiece. It’s theatrical yet strangely thrilling, possibly because women’s fight films are few and far between.
There’s 2004’s po-faced, Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby, Priyanka Chopra’s 2014 turn as Indian boxing star Mary Kom, and last year’s Fighting with My Family, a good-time, must-see starring our girl Florence Pugh as a pro wrestler. But a global sports-fighting industry stacked with female champs hasn’t really translated into big screen chick-fights. The best woman-on-woman fight scenes are usually contained in narrative action (the airplane scrap between KiKi Layne and Charlize Theron in The Old Guard was one of 2020’s highlights on that front).
And that’s, in part, what attracted actor and emerging producer Malin Åkerman to Chick Fight, a story set around a secret underground women’s fight club founded by a therapist to give her patients a physical outlet for their rage. “I love boxing,” says Åkerman. “It’s not a man’s sport. It’s an everyman’s sport, it’s an everywoman’s sport. It’s a very cathartic experience for me because afterwards I feel like I’ve gotten everything out.”
Åkerman plays Anna, a 40-something financial and emotional disaster whose bestie introduces her to the club once she hits rock bottom. That friend, Charleen, is played winningly by comedian Dulcé Sloan, with a fun turn by Fortune Feimster as the fight club referee, plus Alec Baldwin as Anna’s booze-loving trainer, and former WWE star Kevin Nash as her recently out father.
Tumblr media
Malin Åkerman and Alec Baldwin in ‘Chick Fight’.
Though she has has starred in more than 40 films, Åkerman is new to producing (Friendsgiving is her other film out this month). The hunt for projects she could take the lead on began after the jolt of missing out on a role uniquely suited to her: Tonya Harding in I, Tonya. “I grew up as a figure skater, I competed nationally in Canada for ten years,” Åkerman says, recalling that she hit up her team: “I just said, ‘How come I didn’t even get called in for this?’ And they said, ‘Well, because Margot Robbie built it from the ground up. She produced it.’ I went ‘aaah’ and a light bulb went up over me and I went, ‘Alright, that’s it, I just have to take things into my own hands and start finding material’.”
Chick Fight was scripted by first-time feature writer Joseph Downey, who strives to create female-led stories. Some aspects feel contrived—a rivalry between Anna and Bella Thorne’s Olivia in particular; Alec Baldwin in general—but Åkerman worked with director Paul Leyden, a good friend, to enhance “the female perspective and the female voice” in the script. This comes across in scenes between Anna and Charleen, which tingle with no-bullshit connection. “I think that the important message in this film was sisterhood. It’s so important to focus on the fact that women supporting women has so much power and strength. We need to stick together and we need to be this force of unity.”
In the pursuit of more projects, her lockdown has been a whirl of Zoom meetings with potential writers—a silver lining of the pandemic. “I’ve had time to focus on searching for new material. Just taking the bull by the horns and creating the material that [I] wanna create. That is the way to go.” Åkerman herself is partial to “films that breathe”, giving No Country for Old Men, Babel and Call Me by Your Name as examples. “I just think there is so much art involved in those types of films.” Javier Bardem and Tilda Swinton stand out in her “Rolodex of actors” as particular fascinations. “Anything Tilda does, I will watch.”
Tumblr media
Malin Åkerman, Dulcé Sloan and director Paul Leyden on the set of ‘Chick Fight’.
Those films and artists, Åkerman readily adds, are “a long shot from the kinds of genres I usually get myself involved in”. Chick Fight, on the other hand, fits neatly in the Åkerman universe—a breezy comedy that balances silly training montages with meatier questions. While above ground, it looks like a classic comedy, the underground cage fights are filmed at high-speed to allow for the visceral, glossy slow-mo shots that come part-and-parcel with today’s movie fights—roundhouse kicks, fists meeting bones, spit and blood flying—and sound effects to match. “That guttural, animal instinct is so amazing to be able to release,” Åkerman enthuses.
It feels important to note, given the David Fincher elephant in the room, that Chick Fight’s only commonality with Fight Club is the three words “secret fight club”. Åkerman says the films that more directly influenced Chick Fight are Rocky (“this is the comedic version of that underdog story”), and the buddy-movie vibe of Thelma & Louise. “That’s the closest to this that we could get. It’s that ‘enough is enough’ feeling. I just love that film. It’s, like, ‘Fuck the system and fuck society as it’s been created and told us to be and not to be. Let’s break down those barriers’.”
The Thelma & Louise connection feels especially strong in Anna’s very sudden economic descent from small business owner to evicted, unemployed and dispossessed. It’s a clear-eyed statement, in the middle of a comedy, on the lack of a social safety net in America, particularly for women—and on the importance of finding your own community (and for many, choosing your own family).
Åkerman was born in Sweden and raised in Canada; both are countries with stronger systems in place for social support, and pro-women policies. “Everything seems a bit more logical over there.” On pandemic-ridden, post-election America, she says, “That's been really interesting, to take into account what kind of country we’re actually living in and what needs to be worked on. I hope that we continue to move forward and not backwards as far as women and equality goes.”
Tumblr media
Among the many downsides of the coronavirus pandemic, one is the closure of gyms and sports clubs, an inconvenient side-effect at a time when exercise—an outlet for stress and frustration—is so beneficial for mental-health management. Which brings us back to the joy of boxing: “Most of us have so much on our minds; life is so full of anxiety, or stresses, and it’s so hard to shut that off.”
“Some people are able to shut up their brains by actually sitting and meditating. My brain just gets much louder when I do that, so if I am able to just concentrate on not getting hit in the face, I am completely out of my mind and in my body.”

EXCLUSIVE: Sebastian Stan will replace Chris Evans in The Devil All The Time, the Antonio Campos-directed drama. Evans has dropped out over a problem with scheduling. Who better to step in than Stan, as he and Evans have played running buddies Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier and Captain America in four Joe & Anthony Russo-directed Marvel Studios films that will culminate in the April 27 release Avengers: Endgame?
Randall Poster is producing with Nine Stories’ Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker, and Max Born. Stan will costar alongside Tom Holland, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasakowska, Robert Pattinson, Riley Keough and Bill Skarsgard.
Evans’ schedule just got really crowded. He committed this week to star for director Antoine Fuqua in Infinite, the tent pole Paramount sci-fi film, and he is about to start production on Defending Jacob, the Apple series he’s starring in and producing.
The Devil All The Time is an adaptation of Donald Ray Pollock’s 2011 mid-western gothic novel that Antonio and Paulo Campos co-scripted. In the forgotten backwoods of a place called Knockemstiff, Ohio, a storm of faith, violence and redemption brews. Out of desperation to save his dying wife, Willard Russell turns to prayer which succumbs to sacrifice. This sets our protagonist Arvin, Willard’s son, on his path from bullied kid to a man who knows when to take action. He interacts with a nefarious cast of characters: a serial killer couple, a faith-testing preacher, and a corrupt local sheriff in a story that is told across two decades.
Stan’s recent credits include Destroyer, I, Tonya and The Avengers franchise. He’s repped by ICM Partners, Brookside Management and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Annie Marter and Jacob Jaffke are the exec producers.

The Best of 2018 - Movies
Örömmel jelentem, hogy a magyar filmek megint feljövőben vannak ami baromi jó hír de sajnos Hollywood még mindig válságban.
01. Call Me By Your Name - 2017 - Dir. Luca Guadagnino - Minden perce csodálatos, a zene isteni, a szereplők, ... Az egyetlen 10/10-es film amit idén láttam.
02. You Were Never Really Here - 2017 - Dir. Lynne Ramsay - Biztos jó hangulatban néztem de engem totálisan beszívott. Tömény és sötét de rengeteg zseniális pillanata van.
Tumblr media

06. Mr & Mrs Adelman - 2016 - Dir. Nicolas Bedos

“AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR” STAR SEBASTIAN STAN LANDS LEAD IN LEONARDO DICAPRIO-PRODUCED “BEAT THE REAPER” (EXCLUSIVE)
After years in development on both the big and small screens, a feature adaptation of Josh Bazell’s debut novel BEAT THE REAPER is finally coming together, as Sebastian Stan has signed on to star, while Gore Verbinski has signed on to direct, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
The project hails from New Regency and Appian Way, so Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson will produce alongside Julie Yorn of LBI Entertainment. The script was written by Billions creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who are also expected to serve as executive producers.
Beat the Reaper follows a young ER doctor whose life is upended when a patient recognizes him from his past life as a mafia hitman. He’s forced to fight to stay alive as old enemies come out of the woodwork to destroy him.
New Regency originally acquired the rights to the book when it was published in January 2009, and developed the feature film project as a starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio. The project moved to HBO in December 2011, but not much has been heard about it since.
Stan is coming off the best performance of his career in I, Tonya, and he’ll soon be seen reprising his role as Bucky in Avengers: Infinity War and its 2019 sequel. Additionally, Stan will be seen alongside Nicole Kidman in Karyn Kusama’s crime thriller Destroyer, and he stars opposite Alexandra Daddario in We Have Always Lived in the Castle. He’s represented by ICM Partners, Brookside Artist Management and attorney Jason Sloane.
Verbinski recently fell off of Channing Tatum’s superhero movie Gambit at 20th Century Fox, and I’d say this project represents one hell of a rebound. He last directed the horror movie A Cure for Wellness starring Dane DeHaan. He’s repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.

2018 was the best & hardest of times.
Still, so many beautiful moments blossomed that I’m very grateful for: - Filming and finishing my thesis short film “Moonwalk With Me.” - Graduating from Columbia University. - Getting the SFFILM Sloan Filmmaker Fellowship. - Screening “Moonwalk With Me” at the Austin Film Festival & meeting so many amazing filmmakers and new friends. - Visiting Seoul, Busan, Tokyo, Jeju, Osaka & Kyoto. - Living in SF for 2 months (used to be a dream of mine). - Playing and learning more about film photography. Throughout the year, it feels as though progress is hardly made, but when I look at the greater scope of the year, so much has culminated and so much has changed. The idea you once had for a story becomes a 100 page script. The dreams of travel have now been memorialized in photographs. Every year, I try to make a list of all the movies I’ve watched and all the books I’ve read. Before, I used to focus more on quantity vs. quality, but now I’m attempting to do the reverse–really taking time to enjoy rather than consume, consume, consume. Here is my list (favorites have been starred **):
FILMS:
Phantom Thread ** I Tonya ** The Post Boogie Night Sweet Bean Paddington 2 The Ritual Annihilation ** Claire’s Camera The Truman Show ** Eyes Wide Shut The Fellowship of the Ring End of the Fucking World ** Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast - Season 1 & 2 ** Never Let Me Go ** Isle of Dogs A Quiet Place Our House ** Atlanta ** Terrace House - Season 1 - 5 You Were Never Really Here Ready Player One Ratcatcher Hello My Twenties - Season 1 & 2 My Life as a Zucchini Mustang ** Face Off Heart Signal Person to Person Grave of the Fireflies ** Little Forest Beachrats Heartbeats We Need to Talk About Kevin Book Club Raw Thelma ** The World of Us ** Young Adult The Incredibles 2 Louder Than Bombs Hereditary Superbad Sorry to Bother You Love Actually Three Identical Strangers Homeland - Season 1-5 Being John Malcovich ** Eighth Grade ** Fight My Way Atonement Crazy Rich Asians To All the Boys I Have Ever Loved The Reader Her The Miseducation of Cameron Post Revolutionary Road Joan Didion: The center Does Not Hold ** Fight My Way Fresh Off the Boat - Season 1 Icarus Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist Blackkklansman Kusama: Infinity Maniac ** Big Mouth ** Electrick Children First Man Angels Wear White ** The Rider ** Million Dollar Baby Clouds of Sils Maria Boy Erased Ben is Back Wildlife Border What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? Transpecos Burning ** Shoplifters Tully You Were Never Really Here Leave No Trace ** The Ballad of Buster Scruggs The Favorite ** Brightstar An Education Shirkers ** If Beale Street Could Talk The Black Panther Roma ** First Reformed Bandersnatch BOOKS:

Thankful for all the memories, good & bad, that brought me to this happier state of mind.

He committed this week to star for director Antoine Fuqua inInfinite, the tent pole Paramount sci-fi film, and he is about to start production on Defending Jacob, the Apple series he’s starring in and producing.
From Deadline.
