Okay only three requests to go after this one I promise 😂
Could you do a moodboard for Bob when he’s a vet/vet nurse/ working with animals.
Thanks Fern 💜
Tumblr media
“How could you not love this face?”
Jess! I had way too much fun making this, Bob would be a natural when it comes to animals, both in their handling and when it comes to reading them. Vet Nurse Bob is definitely going to be the reason the office he works at is so popular with women, because how could he not be?
Find the completed moodboards here!

I wrote this because of an idea I had, I hope you like it!
It is a Robert ‘Bob’ Floyd x female!reader imagine.
Thank you @footprintsinthesxnd for proofreading and for the great vet nurse infos!
This is also kinda for her, but I hope you like it too!
Warnings: a sick dog (but treatable)
Tumblr media
Robert ‘Bob’ Floyd was about to enter the waiting room of a veterinary clinic on one of his rare days off because Ace, his beagle, was sick.
Bob hadn't been sleeping well because Ace had been coughing a lot, Bob had felt every sound his beagle made in his chest as well and felt bad for his furry companion.
Whereas he would have loved to spend the day with his fellow aviators at the beach and a bar, he loved his dog enough to cancel his plans and be there for him.
He hadn’t made an appointment because the cough had developed overnight but he had called the clinic and they said he could come by if he had time to spare, which he had already accepted beforehand.
Poor Ace looked exhausted, his nose was running, his breath had a wheezing sound to it, and his nose was warm to the touch, which in this case certainly wasn’t a good sign.
So Ace and Bob found themselves in the entryway of a vet clinic, to help Ace feel better.
Bob made his way to the front desk with Ace trotting absentmindedly by his side, not in the mood to give Bob a hard time as he usually did.
The aviator watched his dog instead of focusing on where he was going, so the moment his eyes went up to the receptionist his breathing stopped momentarily.
“Can I help you?” A kind and gentle voice sounded, but Bob was too mesmerized by your beauty to be able to focus.
His eyes were wide and his breathing was heavy once he was able to remember to breathe again.
“Ma’am?” He asked softly once he gathered himself, blinking repeatedly as he stared at you.
You were looking back at him the same way, a little starstruck and your pupils blown.
“I asked how can I help you?” You repeated, a smile appearing on your face and a heat making its way to your cheeks.
The owner of your little customer reciprocated the smile with a nervous chuckle, reaching up to fix the glasses resting on his nose, even if they were neatly placed on his face.
“Yeah, I… uhm…” Bob began before he cleared his throat, his eyes not quite able to stay focused on yours.
“My… Ace is sick, I’d love for someone to take a look at him?” He asked gently, and you smiled with a warm glow in your eyes that immediately calmed his nerves.
“Alright, Sir, do you have an appointment?” You asked gently, and he shook his head with a small grimace that showed how uncomfortable he felt.
“I… well, his cough developed overnight, but I called and am willing to stay here all day if need be,” he answered and his blue eyes met yours again, and while his eyelids fluttered slightly he didn’t break eye contact.
“Alright, and your name is?” You asked him with a pen in hand and you saw his Adam's apple bob with anxiety.
“Lieutenant Robert ‘Bob’ Floyd. And yours?” He asked automatically, and you had to suppress a laugh as you set your pen down.
You told him your first name with an amused smile on your face, your eyes slightly wide with curiosity at the beautiful, timid stranger.
“Well then, Lieutenant, please take a seat. We’re pretty busy today but as soon as there’s time we’ll fit Ace right in,” you told him.
“I… please call me Bob,” he said softly and you nodded quickly.
“You can take a seat, Bob,” you answered him with a kindness that made him admire you even more.
He took a seat in a chair that was just opposite the reception area and he glanced back at you, but you managed to busy yourself with the paperwork quickly enough so it didn’t look like you had been watching him sit down.
Bob quickly looked down to make sure his dog was alright before he leaned forward with his elbows on his thighs, waiting for time to go by.
You did the same while you worked, but you kept glancing at your stranger.
Bob was attractive, with his hair neatly combed back and his glasses placed meticulously on his face, he wore some jeans that hugged the muscles in his thighs and his white t-shirt also hugged his body beautifully in the right places, which you hadn’t been able to appreciate when he had been standing in front of you.
Now that he was seated you had the chance to watch him occasionally and you loved it, looking at him as often as you could allow yourself to.
Nevertheless, you took your work seriously, so you went in and out of the room repeatedly, following your usual work routine.
You didn't notice it at first but after a bit, you felt Bob’s eyes on you every once in a while, which only made you smile.
You focused on work but Bob was always at the back of your mind, but his presence just made you happier.
Every time you entered the room your eyes went to the beagle and his owner, and occasionally your eyes met and you shared an equally embarrassed smile each time.
After a few hours, there was finally time for Ace, whom you had heard coughing a few times throughout the waiting period.
When the time finally arrived a wide smile spread over your face and you moved closer to your bespectacled stranger.
“Bob, the doctor is finally ready for Ace,” you told him and relief flashed over his features for a second.
You lead the two of them into the examination room and the doctor made sure to see how Ace was doing, under the watchful eyes of you and Bob.
“Alright, Mr. Floyd, Ace here has a condition called ‘kennel cough’, it’s an infectious kind of bronchitis. Not to worry, with the right anti-inflammatory drugs it’ll go away quickly,” he told Bob, who gave him his full attention while his hand ran over Ace’s fur.
That was the moment for you to notice how good his hands looked, so strong and slim, with veins running up his forearms.
Your cheeks heated up at the thoughts and your eyes traveled up his body to find Bob looking back at you.
You immediately averted your gaze but you saw the smile that threatened to grow on Bob’s face and the way his eyes lit up at the attention you were giving him.
The doctor gave Ace a shot before he let him go and Bob helped him off the table, his muscles straining with the dog’s weight which you couldn’t help but notice.
You guided them both out of the room and back into the waiting area.
“Ace should be alright in a matter of days. It usually takes ten to fourteen days. Feed him this once a day with his food,” you said softly, handing him the box with anti-inflammatory.
There was a long silence as the two of you stood together, sharing a gentle look with wide eyes and heat in both your cheeks.
Your breath was less deep than usual and your eyes were caught in his, the longing silence droning on until he finally spoke up.
“Ma’am, would you…” He began and you chuckled, interrupting his question which he gladly let you.
“You know my name, why don’t you use it,” you suggested and he smiled, neither of you breaking eye contact even for a little bit.
“Right, yes,” he cleared his throat and addressed you, your name rolling off his tongue, “would you want to go out with me sometime? For dinner?”
Your already low breath caught in your throat but at the same time a wide smile spread over your face, which also sent a relief over his face.
“I get off at seven,” you said softly and you heard Bob let out a breath he was undoubtedly holding.
“I’ll be there,” he said softly and you nodded quickly, while a rush of relief running over his face.
You watched him walk out and felt a warm and tingling sensation in your stomach that you hadn’t felt in years.

Good luck for your oral exam! (even though you most likely will see this after you have finished it,)
How close are you from becoming a professional veterinary nurse?
Also, this might be very selfish of me to ask but (only) if you have the time could you make a short vignette relating to the blacks, I'm so thirsty for this type of content. Also, I think you're a brilliant writer and I love your stories! (you don't have to reply to this if you don't want to) sorry for my bad english I'm not native.
Thanks for the luck, it must have come in handy, because I passed my exam! Truly thought I'd failed it but apparently I did something right after all.
I just have my final practical exams in June to go, and then I'll finally be able to register as a veterinary nurse :)
I haven't yet gotten back into the swing of writing properly, but I do have a snippet I can share with you, which was originally meant to be released around Christmas a couple of years ago but I never did get round to properly finishing it. In spite of this, I hope you enjoy it :)
25th December 1959
The sound of the church bells chiming in the near distance caused the baby in Walburga’s arms to stir in his sleep. Walburga shot an annoyed look in the direction of the window beside where she sat in the corner of the nursery and clutched her son tighter to her, giving him a gentle squeeze to reassure him.
“It’s alright, it’s only the church bells,” she murmured to him. “Quite the annoyance, I know, but what can we do? It is Christmas, after all”
In many ways, this Christmas morning bore an almost identical resemblance to the previous three Christmases of Walburga’s married life. She and Orion had shared a traditional breakfast of smoked salmon and champagne, had exchanged their gifts before the Christmas tree in the parlour (a far more modest specimen compared to its counterpart in the drawing room), and had wished one another a happy Christmas with a peck on the cheek before parting ways to prepare for the day’s festivities.
Except, instead of heading straight back to her bedroom as she ought, Walburga had taken a detour which took her up a floor to the nursery. She’d hurried up the staircase, hitching up her skirts in her haste, a smile creeping across her lips. For unlike the last few Christmases, this year Walburga had far more reason to be in good cheer. The most joyous of reasons.
Sirius Orion had been fast asleep when she’d arrived. At not yet two months old, there was little else he did besides sleep. Though when he was not in a state of peaceful slumber, he was already proving himself capable of kicking up quite a storm, when something was amiss or otherwise, if his nursemaid was to be believed.
And what with the silencing charms placed around the room to prevent his cries from disturbing the rest of the house, Walburga was left with little choice but to believe the girl’s reports.
The sleeping baby stirred as Walburga reached a hand into his cot to stroke the soft wisps of black hair coating his head, letting out feeble whimpers as he awoke.
“Here, ma’am, let me. He won’t settle for ages if he properly gets going”
The nursemaid, a young, rough spoken Londoner - a slip of a witch, at barely twenty - attempted to place herself in front of the child’s mother to take over. A grave mistake.
“That won’t be necessary” Walburga said sharply, her hackles raised defensively as she stood firm, guarding the spot directly in front of her child. “I will sit with him for a while. I presume you have some other tasks to be getting on with, in the meantime?”
Having received her dismissal in no uncertain terms, the girl paused for a moment before uttering a stiff “Yes, ma’am” and bobbed the slightest of curtsies before leaving the room. Her attitude teetered on the brink of impertinence, in Walburga’s view. She supposed the silly young witch was feeling a tad put out at having her request for two days’ leave to make the journey to the far east of the city to visit her family for Christmas refused. Surely she knew that such a thing would be out of the question when she accepted the position, Walburga thought to herself as she lifted Sirius out of the cot and into her arms. He let out a sleepy whimper at the movement before settling against her, quietining once more. Of course, there was always the option of hiring a replacement nursemaid for the duration of the girl’s absence, but Walburga had been extremely reluctant to even consider it. She’d scarcely begun to fully trust this one with her infant son’s care.
With the still-sleepy Sirius cradled in her arms, Walburga crossed the room to sit in the armchair in the corner, by the window overlooking the snowy rooftops of London. The baby had taken a few moments to settle once she’d sat down, long enough for Walburga to worry that perhaps she was holding him wrong, upsetting him in some way.
Don’t be absurd, she told herself firmly as she tightened her grip reassuringly. You are his mother. Of course you know how to hold him.
There she sat, in the quiet of the room, the silence broken only by the crackling of the firewood and the child’s occasional sleepy snuffles. This was the only place Walburga found true contentment anymore. Here, alone with her son, in blissful silence.
Until those accused church bells went off, that was.
Walburga felt a wave of anxiousness wash over her as Sirius began to stir again, disturbed by the noise.
“Shh, it’s alright” she tried to reassure him as he let out a little cry, holding him tighter to her. “Go back to sleep”
It took a few moments of persuasion, but at last, he began to quieten and settled against her once more. Walburga breathed a sigh of relief - but still she felt uneasy.
She was not looking forward to the day ahead. Before too long she would have to give up her moment of contentment and, as tradition dictated, depart for Noire House with her husband for the annual Christmas festivities, the main event of the day being the sumptuous feast of a Christmas dinner which the house’s small army of house elves had no doubt been slaving over since the early hours of the morning.
It was an event which Walburga found tedious at the best of times. From the endless parroting of seasonal well-wishes to the slowly-building tension within the room as her father’s jibes at her brother’s lack of a son within his brood became steadily less joking with each glass of wine, the entire day felt like one great charade each year. Feigning the impression of a big, happy family for the sake of the festive occasion, with not one person present ever willing to admit that the entire performance was built on the need to appear as one big, united unit as opposed to any of them being there as a gesture of genuine affection.
They were Blacks, after all. They didn’t do gestures of affection.
But surely, Walburga thought to herself as she stared down at her sleeping son in her arms, she ought not to care about any of that anymore. After four long, painful years, she had at last been granted the greatest of gifts. Her firstborn son and the next heir of the Black dynasty. This Christmas, Walburga Black had greater reason than ever to be filled with festive cheer.
So why, she asked herself as she tightened her hold around her baby, did she feel so wretchedly unhappy?

Hiya! Not sure if you do this, but would you be able to suggest some non-ao3 finished frerard fics? It seems I've read ao3's entire collection 😅 Thank you so much, you're honestly my favourite blog on here xx
Thanks for your kind words, Nonny! And... congratz on reading the entire ao3 tag, there are a lot of works there :D
Frank/Gerard is such a popular ship that I was actually able to find quite a lot from outside ao3.
Non-AO3 Frank/Gerard
Thing-Thing by sinsense, 43k, NC-17. When Gerard signed the admissions paperwork for the Fordhaven School for Boys, he knew he was signing up for four years of sexual frustration. No one was gay at Fordhaven. Gerard was all-too-aware that he would be a virgin until he graduated. In his senior year, though, this stupid gay freshman disproves Fordhaven's straightness, and throws Gerard's entire world off-kilter. Now, in between drawing, avoiding bullies, running an incredibly serious tabletop RP game, failing out of math, and hanging out with friends, Gerard is also busy kind of falling for this asshole who's way too young for him. It's not what he planned on, but it's what's happening. In conclusion: high school sucks.
I Think I Thought (I Saw You Try) by thatsfinewithus, ~3,000, NC-17. Welcome to some weird AU world in which Gee only does awesome comics and Frank is a vampire.
They Came From Outer Jersey! by thatsfinewithus, 25k, R. New London Fire is an elite fringe government force assigned the task of protecting the earth from some of its more interesting threats: those from beyond the atmosphere or even the universe. They've handled dangerous cases before, but they've never seen anything like...ZOMBIES FROM SPACE. Vampires, long hunted in lore and legend, are now the earth's only saviors. There is little information as to who sent the creatures until Mikey Way, head of the NLF, finds out more by being abducted. Is it too late for him? Is it too late for the earth? Find out how six vampires, one government general, and one frustrated comic book artist save the earth in...THEY CAME FROM OUTER JERSEY!!
I never told you what I do for a living. by not0_fuckin_kay, 60k+, PG-13 to NC-17. Frank Iero, male nurse at Pete Wentz's private hospital and possibly more to one new patient he can't keep his eyes off of. When a new pateint is brought in with amnesia, just days before Christmas, and with nothing but the clothes on his back and a strange drawing, it's left to Frank to find out who he is and what happened to him. When he does, it changes Frank's life forever, as he's thrust into love and health scares he never thought would complicate his life. This is the story of how he tries to make it through, juggling his job and his love-life and just trying to make things better. With Patrick the doctor, Bob the ward supervisor, Travis the unlikely therapist, and Mikey, the sometimes wannabe homicidal geek.
Of All The Hidden Corners by moneyes, ~44K, PG-13. An epic, adventurous tale filled with alternate universes, lords, mischief, magical powers, snark, boyfriends, and luck of the bad kind.
All We Are by lightisbreaking, 21k, R. Set in the future, where humans are on the brink of evolution. For the select few born with a special awareness of their own minds - an awareness which gives them abilities beyond the norm, life is suddenly a very dangerous thing. Frightened of what this could mean, the government set out to make this new race of humans extinct, telling the public that these people are mentally unstable defectives and must be kept under observation for the safety of the public. All of this brings together a rather odd troupe of people, hiding from the government and eventually having to protect one of their own when he's taken into custody. Superpowers AU!
Tell Us a Story by bexless, imogenedisease, 32k, NC-17. The world as these kids know it is ending, and Gabe Saporta is throwing the party. High school AU based on the movie Can't Hardly Wait.
Stay Right Here by idktbh, swagneto, 28k, R. Frank is involved in an accident which renders him paralyzed from the waist down. When Frank begins to withdraw into himself, his relationship with Gerard crumbles and the band faces the hardest decision they'll ever make: whether to continue playing or not. This is a story about how MCR copes with the biggest obstacle of their career so far.
Return to Spirit Lake by inpurity, 22k, R. Gerard Way has left Spirit Lake when he was eighteen to study to become a veterinary surgeon, and with no intention of ever coming back. Twelve years later he is back, carrying secrets of a life spent away from his family and friends, and the weight of a dark, painful sorrow. His old home town has not changed, but his life, and the lives of the people he will meet along the way, will never be the same.
These Friday Night Lights by faux-disco-sins, 21k, PG-13. Gerard is the head cheerleader and wears the cheer skirt, Frank is on the football team, Pete is the school mascot, Ryan is the school’s hobo journalist, Jon does photography for the yearbook, Spencer and Patrick are in the marching band, Gabe and Ray are AV techs who do a ESPN spin-off for the school, Bob is the big scary lineman, and Mikey tries to fit in while ignoring the fact that his older brother is wearing a skirt in public.
Of Love And Superpowers by mcrnut, 20k, NC-17. Seventeen year old Frank Iero is in his last year at Mutant High. He has a couple of good friends, is doing okay in school and even though he has some issues with his Mother, life is pretty great. That is, until one day, when he overhears some of the professors talking about the well-known Anti-Mutant organization HSA and how they have already broken into two Mutant Academies and are heading their way. Frank and his friends have to stick their heads together and try to solve the mystery, and as if Frank didn't have enough to think about already, he finds himself falling for his friend's older brother, Gerard.
Cypress Grove by slashxyouxup, 24k+, NC17. My Chemical Romance fight off a town of sperm hoarding, men hating, PMSing maniac women in order to save themselves from certain doom! Also, Frank and Gerard get closer than close while pretending to not be completely in love with each other. Mikeyway is not amused.
Sleepwalker by lyrical_tragedy, 73k, NC-17. Frank Iero is one of the best cops in New Jersey so it’s only natural that his boss dumps a seemingly unsolvable case on him and his colleague Bob Bryar. With no leads whatsoever Frank enlists the help of Gerard Way, a reclusive young man who experiences strong visions and dreams of events from the past and visions of the future. However, none of them could ever begin to expect the terrifying chain of events that come into play once they delve deeper into the unknown, questioning Frank’s very beliefs on what the world actually holds. A story of visions, sacrifices, over protective brothers and love all in the midst of the attempted destruction of the world. The devil’s got your number and he will come calling, until it’s nothing more than hell on earth.
Patience Is A Virtue (You Might Be Good Looking, But You Can’t Sleep With Yourself Tonight) by eflorentino, 22k, NC-17. Frank Iero’s biggest hero is Gerard Way; the outspoken, obnoxious lead singer of the multi-platinum selling band My Chemical Romance. His world changes completely when he finds himself suddenly shoved into the limelight, playing sell-out shows every night and earning more than his usual $6 an hour. However, the infamously homophobic frontman isn’t what Frank expects, and after mixed signals and unsolved revelations he learns that, with Gerard Way, things are never simple.
But Nobody Cares If You're Losing Yourself by red_ones_fly, 16k, NC-17. It took me a while to work out that there was something wrong with Gerard, he kept it hidden well and, really, he didn’t even know something was wrong with him. To him it seemed like normal, everyday stuff. He never found any of his behaviour out of the ordinary. To him it was just reality.’ After Gerard's grandma passes away his behaviour becomes strange. He becomes less outgoing and more paranoid. As Frank tries to work out what’s going on with his friend/love interest, between school, learning psychology and dealing with the jocks, he doesn’t realise just how bad it is.
Parks and Recreation by vinvy, 35k+, PG-13. Gerard Way is an art school drop out with no prospects, student loans to pay off, and a dead end job. His mother works too hard and his little brother Mikey is keeping secrets. His boss runs shady contracts and smiles too much. It's nothing special and he tells himself that he'll learn to make peace with that- in the meantime he's got to carve out a living that doesn't involve artwork. Really, he's going to be okay. Then a crazy homeless kid comes along and screws up Gerard's Adventures in Normal Employment with his hippie magic and soulless eyes. Gerard can't shake the feeling that this guy "isn't quite right" but he's too busy fending off the freak accidents that are following him around to worry about that particular winged freak.
Empire Boys by noctecaelum, 30k, NC-17. In the city that never sleeps, it's tough to get your foot in the door. While Gabe Saporta may find it easy to blend into the socialite scene; Gerard Way spends his day blending eyeshadow at Bloomingdales. As newcomer Frank triumphs in Women's Lingerie, Gerard sparks a bitter rivalry in the vicinity of Lexington and 59th; but there's no use crying over spilt coffee because things are about to fire up. Meanwhile, on the Upper East Side, Gabe Saporta is none too pleased to read a socialite-bashing article, but when confronting the writer, he doesn't expect to meet fresh faced, pretty-boy William Beckett, who turns out to be the biggest tease this side of the Downtown Dunkin' Donuts.
The Evolution Index by theficisalie, 32k, NC-17. In a world where superpowers are just another thing that can get you sent to boarding school, Frank Iero and his friends know what it's like to operate under heavy levels of stress. After all, they did spend their formative years under the wings of the United States Government's most widespread and successful initiatives; a program that was created to protect and train young Americans with superpowers to become functioning members of society. And, as a side-benefit, the government realized that not only were telepaths great at taking drink orders, but they could also be trained to be highly successful secret agents. Under the guidance of Frank's volatile and (literally) power-hungry boyfriend Gerard Way; Frank, Mikey Way, and Ray Toro are an accomplished team of super spies. When a handful of people from Frank's sordid past crop up during an investigation of rash Superhuman disappearances across the country, the team finds themselves challenged both on and off the field as they fight to solve the mysteries plaguing their beloved nation. Frank knows all too much about uncovering things that he'd rather keep hidden, but can he and his team unravel the intricate web of crime and kidnapping surrounding Chicago without losing themselves in the process?
A Good Ocean Gone Wrong by xoxxblitz7, 32k, NC-17. Titanic AU - The Way's are one of the richest families in America and sometimes being an artist requires the need to travel. On the doomed maiden voyage of Titanic old friends are found, new love is formed and put to the test and the most luxurious crossing of the Atlantic ocean becomes a fight for survival.
A Fanfiction (In Which Gerard Has A Secret Stash of Star Wars Fanfiction) by sparklefap, 10k, R. Frank finds Gerard's bizarrely erotic Star Wars fanfiction, and is both disturbed and aroused by it. Those feelings won't do for Frank. He seeks revenge.

STOP BLAMING TRUMP
Or any other politician!
One individual in a business suit in an office has zero control over whether Bob in Nebraska or Susan in Florida are washing their hands or not, or if they’re sneezing on their hands and then wiping their hands on other people’s faces or not
They only WISH they could have that type of control over people.
                                                      ~~~
Every day, people all over the world are bringing their snotty-nosed, poorly behaved children into public places. Maybe these children aren’t washing their hands after they poop. Maybe their picking their noses and eating their boogers after they touch their butts, and then touching other people. You can’t ever know for sure.
But soon, when people realize this, they will start targeting children.
And don’t forget about fomites.
                                                     ~~~
If you want to blame any one well-known individual for disease spreading, blame doctors! Nurses! Choose any one of them and start bashing them on social media for the fact that there’s no toilet paper left at the store. Blame them for someone in your state/country for testing positive for the corona virus.
For in fact, business people & politicians usually have NO medical knowledge from accredited medical institutions!
On a day-to-day basis, business people & politicians have no ability to help sick people. They themselves do not have the power to command bacteria & viruses. Walk up to them when you’ve got cold & flu-like symptoms and ask them what to do. They’ll reply, “I don’t know, I’m not a doctor, go see a doctor”.
Think about how messed up the human medical system is in the US anyway. It’s run purely for profit.
Think about how messed up corporate veterinary practices are in the US anyway (ie. Banfield).
I’ve heard from former Banfield employees that people with no medical knowledge + no animal knowledge have been hired as managers, telling the people with the medical knowledge what to do. lol
When you add business/politics to these places and money is involved, shit gets fucked up real fast.

I just reread Maison Rouge for the third time and it’s just as wonderful as the first (premise, characterization, dialogue, description). I know it’s not Tuesday but I really want to know how everyone’s doing. Have they rebuilt the theatre? How old is Henry now? Has Grace gotten into any more schoolyard fights? Is Kathryn still mayor? Has Marina convinced her father that Eric isn’t devilspawn even though he’s a fisherman? How’s Granny? How are Rumbelle, Dwarfstar, Red Cricket?
Addendum to my previous Maison Rouge post: Have Snowing managed to adopt a child yet?
I saved this for Tuesday, hope you don’t mind!
So… Let’s pick this up a year after the end of Maison Rouge, so Henry’s just turned one. They’d just finished the rebuild when he was born.
Henry, Emma and Bae are still living in the theatre, along with Gold and Belle. Bae totally accepts Henry as his own and he and Emma are getting along nicely.
Gold has taken a step back from compering as he now runs the theatre. Granny has decided to retire and leave the place in capable hands. Jefferson has taken Gold’s place as master of ceremonies whilst still performing his own magic act. Belle and Gold got ‘married’ (not legally, they’re both still technically married to other people) in the theatre auditorium with Jefferson officiating.
Ruby and Archie have moved in together. Granny now lives in the flat downstairs from them, ostensibly so that they can keep an eye on her as she gets older but really, we all know it’s the other way around. Ruby is still working at Maison in between studying at the OU online to get qualified as a veterinary nurse. (Pongo has been very patient in having plaster casts put on him for practice.)
Kathryn is still mayor and has allocated some of the town’s budget to protecting the Maison building. It’s a Victorian monument after all and they don’t want to have to rebuild it a second time.
Mary Margaret and David have welcomed four-year-old Neal into their home and they’ve been a happy family for six months now.
Bob has given up trying to convince Marina that Eric is terrible, mainly because Marina threatened to elope to Denmark to live with Eric’s family if Bob didn’t put a sock in it. He still mutters under his breath about it,. and he has been protesting with his ‘fish are friends, not food’ banner with renewed vigour, but ultimately, he just wants his daughter to be happy.
Astrid and Leroy are planning their wedding, :-)

Everyone is bisexual except Will, who is gay; Bob is straight, but a great ally; Barb is gay, and though Nancy is her first gay crush outside of celebrities, she goes on to marry another woman and she keeps all of the letters and postcards Nancy sends to her from all over the country as she travels killing monsters with her poly girlfriend and boyfriends.
Mike is scared to death he’s going to cheat on El with Will because whenever he and Will are alone he gets the feeling Will wants to kiss him and one day at the Byers Will seems about to tell him something when El walks in and she finally blurts out, “Did he tell you yet?” and Mike is like “What?” and Will is like “No,” and El almost rolls her eyes but explains what she meant and Mike’s ears are so fucking red.
Dustin marries a guy from college and they adopt two kids together. Lucas and Max get married in their 30s and they have one daughter. El and Mike and Will adopt, and end up with three kids, four dogs, one cat, and a revolving door of fosters.
Nancy, Steve, Kali, and Jonathan never have kids, but Steve somehow keeps finding stray animals that they take care of for a while before rehoming, and one day Nancy of all people finds a stray kitten and is like “Okay, this is a sign,” and they end up adopting like four cats and a dog by six years from this point, and are living in the Colorado mountains where Jonathan makes a fortune in his photography. Kali is a jack-of-all-trades, and never settles on one job long, but she loves being a hair stylist and makeup artist the most as she gets older. Nancy is a paramedic, then a nurse, then decides to go to veterinary school. Steve works at a lot of bars over the years, and a mechanic sometimes (bartender still part-time) before he owns his own garage in his 30s. Jonathan ends up writing a memoir about the four of them in his 40s that he never gets published. El gets the second copy of the final draft, after Nancy, who was his editor through most of it.

Blindsided, Chapter 5
Tumblr media
It was Friday night and the air was crisp and cool as Nic and Allie strolled side-by-side with Charlie under the night time sky. They had just finished eating dinner at a nearby bistro and were headed home. The sidewalks were teaming with university students jostling one another as they came in and out of the numerous cafes, restaurants and clubs in the area. Allie, who was wearing black leggings and a lavender cardigan over a white blouse with open-toed sandals, took it all in stride while Charlie slowly and carefully maneuvered around the various obstacles and people in their path.
“Happy anniversary,” Allie said cheerfully as she tugged on Nic’s arm and waited at an intersection for the walk sign to cross.
Nic smiled. “Has it really been a month since we moved in together?”
“It doesn’t feel like it, does it? I guess time does fly when you’re having fun.”
“I think so too,” Nic replied with satisfaction. Although in recent weeks he’d often thought about the possibility of their relationship taking a romantic turn, the reality was that he’d done almost nothing to date to turn that idea into a reality. He kept putting it off, making excuse after excuse as to why the timing just wasn’t right. He did it even though he knew full well that there would come a time in the not so distant future when his desire for her would inexorably drive him to do it.
“Nicole’s instincts were right on target. Having you as a roommate has been great. I couldn’t have asked for a better replacement for her than you.”
“Glad to hear it,” Nic replied. “I’m not exactly the tidiest person in the world but I’ve really tried hard to keep all the places we share, like the kitchen and bathroom, neat and clean for you.”
“I know you do.” After a brief pause, Allie said, “I’ve always kind of wondered why you didn’t rent a bigger and nicer place for yourself when you first moved here. As a professional footballer, I’m guessing that you probably earned a six-figure salary, so it’s not like you had to live as a boarder with the Wilsons or needed to have a roommate like I did.”
“I incurred a lot of medical expenses as a result of the accident. Besides, money isn’t everything, and it almost certainly can’t buy happiness. My parents taught me that a long time ago.”
Just then, the crosswalk signal turned green and beeped. He started forward, then noticed that Charlie hadn’t moved.
“Come on, buddy,” Allie gently urged and pulled on his harness. The dog hesitated, then whimpered softly as he slowly got to his feet and began to move.
“Is he all right?” Nic asked.
Allie furrowed her brow. “He’s been more sluggish than usual today and hasn’t had much of an appetite. I was thinking about making an appointment for him with the vet on Monday. It’s closed now and won’t reopen until then. What do you think?”
“Maybe you should, just to be safe, especially since you rely on him so much to get around.” Allie nodded in agreement.
They arrived at their apartment shortly thereafter. Allie gave Nic a quick peck on the cheek before heading off to her room with Charlie in tow. Too restless to go to sleep, he decided to plop on the futon in the living room and surf the internet through his iphone. Before he knew it, he’d drifted off to sleep.
It was midnight when Nic heard Allie cry out. He sat bolt upright and hurried over to her room. The door was closed. He knocked and called out to her.
“Nic, oh Nic, please come in.”
He turned the doorknob and stepped inside. Her bedroom was pitch black. He felt for the light switch and flipped it on. The room filled with light. He caught sight of Allie hovering over Charlie in one corner of the room. He rushed to her side and knelt down.
“Something’s wrong with Charlie,” Allie stammered, red-eyed and shaking from head to toe. He looked down at the dog, who looked like he was having a seizure.
“What do you want me to do?” Nic asked.
“Can you hand me my phone? I need to call my aunt.”
“Sure. Where is it?”
“On my nightstand. Please hurry.”
Nic quickly retrieved Allie’s phone and handed it to her. She dialed her aunt’s number after activating the voice command function. Aunt Lara answered on the second ring.
“Charlie’s really sick,” Allie said, her voice unsteady. “Can you take us to the emergency pet hospital on Grover Street?”
“Of course, honey,” Aunt Lara replied.
“Do you think Uncle Mike would mind if you brought over his SUV over rather than your car? That way, we could just carry Charlie to the car in his bed and slide him in through the tailgate. I think that would be a lot easier than trying to get him into your backseat.”
“I agree. Anything else?”
“No, I think that’s it.”
“Just try to stay calm and hang in there. I’ll be right over.”
As soon as Allie got off the phone with her aunt, she asked Nic, “Can you help my aunt bring Charlie to the car when she gets here?”
“Absolutely. Would you like me to come with you?”
Allie nodded and then leaned her head on Nic’s shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her. She started to cry. She looked so fragile and scared. He wanted to do more. But what? He didn’t know the first thing about providing first aid to an animal in Charlie’s condition. He grimaced in frustration as he thought of his padre, who always seemed to know what to say and do in every situation, and wished that he could have been more like him at this moment.
When the doorbell rang, Nic let Aunt Lara in and then led the way to Allie’s room. He stayed by the door and watched as she placed her hand over Allie’s and gently patted the top of Charlie’s head. She looked at Nic and said, “We better get going. The sooner Charlie gets seen, the better.”
Nic came forward and slowly lifted one end of the dog bed while Aunt Lara lifted the other. She led the way to Uncle Mike’s SUV while Allie stayed behind to change out of her pajamas. When they got to the car, Aunt Lara opened the tailgate and folded one of the second-row seats down before she and Nic lifted Charlie inside. They positioned him so that Allie could be right by his side. Allie was already by the front door with her purse and walking stick in hand by the time Nic went back for her. He locked the door and then walked with her to the car. He helped her in and then he slid into the front passenger seat while Aunt Lara started up the engine.
They arrived at an emergency veterinary hospital less than ten minutes later. Veterinary personnel went out to the car and placed Charlie on a stretcher. He was whisked away to be evaluated by a triage nurse in the assessment area while Allie and her aunt checked in with the receptionist at the front desk.
Nic took a seat in the waiting area. He sat in a padded chair and looked around the nearly empty rectangular shaped room with its baby blue walls and tiled floor. It was adorned with large portraits of dogs and cats. He reached out and picked up a magazine off the end table entitled “Modern Dog” and flipped through its pages until Allie and Aunt Lara joined him.
A short while later, they were escorted to a hospital room and informed that the on-call veterinary doctor would be in to see them within a few minutes. It had an examination table extending from the wall, wooden cabinets, a computer on a portable workstation and a medical stool. Nic remained standing while Allie and Aunt Lara sat down.
A petite woman with short, bobbed hair came in wearing a lab coat a few minutes later. She pulled the stool over to where Allie was sitting and said, “Good evening. My name is Lucy Wilks. I’m the on-call veterinary doctor.”
“How’s Charlie?” Allie asked in a choked voice. “Is he going to be okay?”
Dr. Wilks paused, then said, “I’m afraid that I have some difficult news to share with you. Per your authorization, we ran a number of tests and did an MRI. Based on the results I obtained as well as the physical examination I conducted, I believe that Charlie’s suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke.” Allie gasped and covered her mouth with her hands.
“Will he recover?” Aunt Lara asked as she put her arms around Allie.
Dr. Wilks replied, “We put him on intravenous fluids to help his brain maintain oxygen and to flush out any waste products from the area. It might be a couple of hours, maybe more, maybe less before I’ll be able to give you a more definitive prognosis.”
Allie nodded. “Can I see him now?”
“We had to sedate him before we did the MRI, but I’ll have one of the nurses take you to him as soon as he wakes up,” Dr. Wilks replied.
“Can my aunt and Nic come too?”
“Yes.”
“Dr. Wilks, is there any way you give us an estimate of how much all this is going to cost?” Aunt Lara asked.
“I can have Cindy at the front desk run the numbers for you.”
“Don’t worry,” Nic chimed in. “I’ll take care of it.” He then turned to Dr. Wilks and said, “Please do whatever you think is necessary to save Charlie.”
Allie shook her head. “I can’t let you do that. It might cost hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars."
“This is no time to argue about money,” Nic replied firmly. “Charlie’s life is at stake. I can’t just stand by and let him die when we both know that I have the means to pay for the care that he desperately needs right now.”
Allie’s lip quivered as a fresh round of tears threatened to spill from her eyes. “I’ll agree to it one condition.”
“What is it?”
“That you agree to let me pay you back.”
“Come on, Allie. You don’t need—”
“My dog, my responsibility,” Allie cut in and proudly lifted her chin.
Knowing that she would never agree to it otherwise, he reluctantly acceded to her terms and then followed her and her aunt back to the waiting room.
Less than an hour later, another nurse informed them that Charlie was awake but had taken a turn for the worse. She then escorted them to the animal hospital’s intensive care unit.
Aunt Lara guided Allie to Charlie, who was being attended to by Dr. Wilks and a nurse. After she had finished giving the nurse instructions, the doctor turned to Allie and gently touched her arm as she said, “He hasn’t got much time left. I’ll leave you now to say your goodbyes. I’m so very sorry.”
Once the doctor had drawn the privacy curtain around them, Allie kissed Charlie’s snout and said, “Hey, buddy. I just spoke to the doctor. She tells me that you’re going to be leaving me soon. I guess I probably should have listened when the rep from Guide Dogs of America told me to retire you, but I just kept putting it off. I told him ‘Charlie’s doing just fine. Maybe in another six months.” She paused to wipe a few tears away and then reached out for her aunt and said, “I don’t think I can do this.”
“It’s now or never sweetheart.” Aunt Lara gave Allie’s shoulder a gentle squeeze. “Just tell him what’s in your heart.”
Allie nodded and placed her hand on Charlie’s back. “I’m going to miss you. You came to me when I was at my lowest and showed me that losing my sight wasn’t the end of the world. You always looked out for me and made sure I got to where I needed to go. And you asked for so little in return.” She covered her face with her hands and choked back a sob. Nic’s heart broke for her as he watched her shatter into a million pieces while the canine who had faithfully served as her second set of eyes for so many years slowly slipped away. Once she’d regained her composure, she concluded by saying, “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be okay. You just rest now…Goodbye Charlie, I love you.”
As Allie said those words, Nic could have sworn that he saw Charlie’s tail wag just a moment before he took his last breath. At first, they all just stood there in shocked silence while the reality of his passing slowly sunk in. Allie bent over Charlie and began to weep aloud while Nic and Aunt Lara stood on either side of her and patiently waited until she was ready to go.
Once they left the ICU, Aunt Lara gave Nic her car keys and asked him to take Allie to the car while she spoke with the animal hospital’s representatives about the bill and the disposition of Charlie’s remains. He discretely handed her his credit card before taking Allie outside. Once they’d reached the car, he asked her where she wanted to sit. She asked him to sit next to her in the back seat.  He readily agreed.
The ride home was quiet. When they reached the apartment, Aunt Lara gave Allie a hug and asked her if she needed anything. When Allie said no, she turned to Nic and thanked him for coming with them to the hospital. After wishing them both good night, she got into the SUV and drove away.
Nic walked with Allie to the front door of their apartment and asked her if there was anything else he could do for her.
Allie shook her head and said, “Thanks for everything. You’re the best.”
“We’re friends, aren’t we?” Nic replied as he closed the door and flicked on the switch to the living room. “It was the least I could do.”
Allie nodded. “You going to bed? You must be exhausted.”
“I’m fine, really. Don’t worry about me. You just take care of yourself.”
“Will do,” Allie replied weakly and headed toward her bedroom. “I’ll see you in a couple of hours.”
Nic watched her go. He wished that there was something more he could do to ease her pain and wondered if she was going to be okay sleeping alone tonight. As he passed by her door on the way to his room, he was tempted to knock but didn’t. He told himself that she needed to rest and that he’d see her in the morning. And so he kept moving instead until he reached his room and closed the door behind him. He took off his jeans and sweatshirt and dragged himself to bed. The emotional and physical toll that the last few hours had taken suddenly hit him. He closed his eyes and was on the verge of drifting off to sleep when he heard a knock on his door. Allie? He said, “Come in.”
He listened with anticipation and concern as he heard the door handle turned and watched the door creek open. Allie looked anxious as she stood by the door wearing a gray t-shirt and shorts. She said, “I can’t sleep. Can I stay with you tonight?”
This unexpected request caught Nic totally off guard, rendering him temporarily speechless. After quickly considering and dismissing the idea of the two of them lying together in his twin sized bed, he replied, “Your bed’s bigger than mine. It might be better if we stayed in your room instead.”
Allie looked relieved. She nodded and said yes. He followed her to her room and watched with nervous anticipation as she pulled back the bedcovers and climbed in. She slid over to give him some room to join her. He slipped his left arm beneath her head and pulled her close. She buried her face in his chest and started to cry.
“I’m here for you, Allie.” Nic gently brushed her lips against her forehead. “Go ahead and cry as much as you want.” He wanted to take her pain away and make it all better. And although he had never considered himself to be a particularly religious man, he said a prayer asking God to help him to be the best friend and companion possible in her time of need.
When her tears finally ebbed, she said, “I’m sorry for the way I initially reacted when you offered to pay Charlie’s bills.”
“There’s no need—”
Allie shook her head. “It was wrong of me to act that way. It’s just that I’ve never been the kind of person to ask for help…or money. I was always taught to stand on my own two feet and pay my own way for things.”
“It’s a very admirable trait and, to be honest, it’s one of the things I like most about you.”
Allie paused, then said, “I hope you didn’t take it the wrong way when I insisted on paying you back.”
“That’s really not necessary. It’s not like I need the money.”
“Don’t you see? It’s the principle of the thing. I hated it when you told me about all those people who acted like they were your friends or wanted to date you because of what they thought they could get out of being seen with a rich and famous footballer. That’s not why I wanted to be your friend or why I asked you to live with me.”
“You think I don’t know that?” Nic asked. “You’re one of the most selfless and giving people I know.”
“And I want you to keep thinking of me that way. So please, promise me that you won’t try to do something like that ever again.”
“Allie—”
“Because I’d say no. And don’t even think about trying to change my mind about this.” Nic looked at Allie with exasperation but said nothing. He was glad that she couldn’t see the look on his face or read his mind. After a moment of awkward silence, Allie was the one who tried break the tension in the air by tentatively placing her hand on his chest and saying, “Don’t be mad, Nic. It’s for the best. You’ll see.”
He couldn’t have disagreed more, but knew better than to try to argue with her further. So instead, he simply said, “It’s late. Go to sleep now.”
“Good night Nic,” Allie said as she yawned and snuggled up against him. “Sweet dreams.”
“Buenas noches, querida.”

(hinkel-vinkel-eat-ze-armpit) BoB ask! 1, 3, 4, & 10
1. One man from Easy to be your best friend?
Nix. We both share a dry sense of humor, and I feel like we’d have quite a bit of fun together.
3. Dike orders a patrol, you and 4 others. Who’s on your team?
Speirs, Lipton, Luz, Shifty.
4. If you had to choose one episode to be apart of, which one would it be?
The Breaking Point. I’d run across Foy with Speirs.
10. If you were in Easy what would your job be? (Radioman, Medic, Rifleman, Mortarman, machine gunner etc)
Medic. I’m a veterinary technician currently. I have always enjoyed nursing and medicine, and I also feel like medics are kind of viewed as less badass or cool than the other positions, when in reality they are absolutely vital and badass.

Special Report - Tribe Animals Part 1
Part 1 of special report on animals with Daniel James (ZOOT), Caleb Ross (LEX), Meryl Cassie (EBONY) and animal trainer Carolyn Press Ol` McDonald had a farm, and on that farm he had…. Not nearly as many animals as we have seen on the Tribe. When we asked members of the Tribe casts what animals they would want to be if they were animals we weren`t too surprised with the answers. Meryl Cassie said a dolphin. Caleb Ross, Daniel James and Michelle Ang all said some type of big cat, like a tiger or the panther. What animals have been in the Tribe so far? Let`s see…there`s been Bluebell the cow, Henrietta the chicken, Bob the dog, Cloudy the dog, Porky the pig, rats, spiders, a horse, a cat and many more. But where do all these animals really come from? Cloud 9 employ an animal wrangler her name is Carolyn Press. It`s her job to find different animals for the show. She reads the script to see what animals are required. Then sets out to find them. Her first port of call is her own backyard. Carolyn lives on a farm not far from the Cloud 9 production center and she has about 30 animals. Everything from a Magpie called Scooter to a really big Clydesdale horse called Drum. She also has an ugly spider, rats, pigs (including Porky), a goat, the lamb that was born during Tribe 2, a cow, cats, chickens, birds, two dogs - Cloudy and Nugget and a baby faun like Bambi.
Tumblr media
Members of the Tribe cast also have animals. Caleb Ross has a dog, two cats, goldfish and mice. Daniel James has a dog. Meryl Cassie had two dogs and a guinea pig when she was little. If Carolyn requires an animal she doesn`t have she needs to call around and see if she knows anyone that can help. As a trainer Veterinary Nurse Carolyn knows a lot of people with a lot of animals. So she calls around her clients and friends to see if she can borrow animals to use in the show. But don`t worry about the animals they are all very well looked after. Cloud 9 pay for all the vet fees, food and lodgings. Carolyn also knows a lot about the behavior of animals and what they like and don`t like. For example, when Porky was painted with black and red stripes or Bob having a blue circle around his eye, it`s Carolyn that makes sure the paint is safe for animals and that they are comfortable working like that.
Tumblr media
She trains the animals with a technique called Positive Reinforcement and Conditioned Response Training. What this means is instead of telling animals when they do something wrong you reward them when they do something right. This is usually done by giving them a hug or a treat. But, if they are always told off they get scared to try new stuff. Some animals even gets so keen to do cool stuff for you they show you tricks that they`ve made up themselves. Then you can teach your animals special commands so they will do tricks when you want them to. TO PART 2 OF ANIMALS REPORT

Unfortunately today is the last day of my first of four 3-week clinical placements and I’ve truly had an incredible time and an invaluable introduction to clinical practice. My favourite points were:
- Aiding in my first spey (after being shown how to remove the first horn by the supervising vet I removed the rest of the uterus!) - Ligating and removing a testicle - Administering an epidural to a cow mid-calving - Finally being able to pick up a uterus and feel it properly via rectal palpation in a cow  - Bobbing a foetal calf in utero as a certified method of pregnancy confirmation (I can guarantee my expression was priceless by the vets reaction) - Slowly getting over my needle phobia (almost stopped the hand shakes and didn’t stick myself at all!) - Being trusted to monitor a severe tick paralysis case under anaesthesia alone - Getting above a 50% success rate in placing catheters (those wiggly veins are killers) - Having a vet behaviourist at the clinic to shadow (honestly I love behaviour and found her passion and guidance invaluable) - Cytology. ALL THE CYTOLOGY. I didn’t realise how fascinated I was by microscopy until I could actually apply it to real cases! - Observing how dedicated and focused a team of veterinary professionals can be when an emergency comes in (even despite the vet student, aka me, accidentally tripping over and ripping out all the monitoring equipment from the power socket)
Most importantly I loved the team I worked with and I learned how truly priceless a good team of nurses and vets are when it comes to dealing with any and all cases that are admitted to the clinic. Despite the 58-odd hour weeks I appreciated every day I worked and I can’t wait for the next placement!

I went to treat a horse called Billy-Bob again this morning. He had a recurring condition which is now thankfully managed through energetic healing and additional nutrition. He's been 'flare free' for 18 months now. He's a cheeky chappie and is really expressive. His fur parent, a veterinary Nurse tells me he likes to play pranks on people too..... #AniScentia #animalwellness #holisticanimal #horses #equine #horsesofinstagram #horse #ilovehorses #love #animalhealing #healinganimals #reikiforanimals #animalhealer #animalhealth #complementaryhealth #healer #healing

Come Crashing --- Saeran X MC
Saeran leaned against the wall at the back of the room and crossed his arms over his chest, the tips of his fingers digging into his ribs. Whether it was to fight the chill of the conference room or to keep himself from screaming, he didn’t know. He just needed to stay away from her. With careful, calculating eyes, he watched as she hedged around the table, making her way over to Jumin Han’s harried-looking assistant. Jaehee Kang had closed the presentation and was just switching off the smartboard when MC stopped beside her. They chatted for a moment in hushed whispers (he was only able to make out the words “DVD collection”) and Jaehee’s face lit up like a toy in the hands of a toddler, the flashes and whistles all firing at once. Even though Kang had led their three-hour meeting, Saeran realized this was the first moment she seemed truly present. Happy, even. Until Jumin Han strolled over and deposited a thick stack of paperwork into her hands. As she flipped through the pages, Jumin spoke almost absently, righting his cufflink while murmuring about “error notations in the margins” and a “two-hour deadline”. Jaehee nodded and swiftly quit the room, looking dejected. “I’ll text you my available dates later!” MC called after her. She turned to frown at Jumin once Jaehee was out of sight. “Jumin... I know Jaehee’s an important part of the team, but please consider giving her a break. It’s not healthy for anyone to work so much…” As she trailed off, her voice grew almost tender. “You too, okay?” Saeran thought he could see a trace of warmth soften the CEO’s composed face. Jumin cleared his throat, “Once the contract is corrected, Assistant Kang will be required to leave for the day.” MC beamed up at him and the warmth in Jumin’s face was instantly unmistakable. A familiar unease flickered to life inside Saeran’s chest. He looked away and let their conversation disintegrate into noise. It took less than a minute for his gaze to return to her. Dressed in a gray sweater dress and a pair of uniformly gray leggings, she practically melted into the walls around them. Her dark hair was gathered into an untidy twist atop her head and, not for the first time, Saeran acknowledged that her face was painfully average. Pale, little make-up, brown eyes. She was utterly ordinary. Easy to overlook. At first, his mind hissed. Saeran dug his fingers deeper into his ribs. Only at first. He watched her chatter with wary eyes, realizing her conversation with Jumin must have strayed from casual into amusing because her cheeks had twitched up and her eyes had crinkled. Saeran held himself together, confident his grip would leave bruises as his eyes bolted to the clock above the coffee station. He frowned at the time and looked at Saeyoung, who was joking with Yoosung Kim near the door. Aggravation twisted his stomach into a smoking coil. They should have left over half an hour ago. A burst of laughter struck him, the cacophony of half-giggles, half-bellows exploding through the room like fireworks. He felt the rest of the room turn to stare with him, watching MC wipe tears from her eyes as her chortling faded into hiccups. She seemed oblivious to the sudden quiet that had fallen over her friends, but Jumin was not. He looked almost smug as he gazed down at her. The smile on her lips was bright—impossibly bright—as though the sun had somehow tumbled down from the sky to snuggle in behind it. Saeran’s chest tightened at the sight, something bubbly and warm spilling into his heart. It sloshed around inside, fizzing up to fill the emptiness. Saeran pointedly sunk his gaze into the carpet. Anxiety was turning his nerves into power lines, snapping between them like voltage and hyping him into panic. He fought it back with deep breaths—pulling in one after another, after another, after another—until the humming in his ears began to fade. He shut his eyes as the bubbling began to trickle away with it, and released a shaky breath. MC had a sickening, frightening way of illuminating the world around her; around him. Like a flash of lightning, she struck too close and swallowed up every shadow, threatening to reveal all his cracks. He felt the ground tremble beneath his feet every time she smiled. Hacking into her phone had been the biggest mistake of his life. An image of her surfaced through the fog of his memory, unsettlingly clear. She sat alone on a city bus, headphone buds squeezed into her ears as she watched the world whisk past her window, her head bobbing to the beat. He was studying her from two seats back—the same seat he’d been studying her from for a week without her realizing—and decided in that moment that she was perfect. Perfectly unexceptional. Perfectly unassuming. Perfectly naïve. He was practically giddy when the bus finally pulled up to her stop. He stood to follow her. Too easy, his mind whispered. And it was easy. He bumped into her at the bottom of the stairs, knocked her purse to the sidewalk, and pocketed her phone without any trouble. She didn't even check her things over once he’d finished helping her stuff them back into her bag. She just threw a quick “thank you” over her shoulder and rushed off toward her destination. He watched her jog away while his program cracked her phone, feeling thoroughly satisfied with his work, if not a little smug. The messenger was fully installed before she even slipped around the corner. He set off after her, his thoughts already far past her, charting the next phase of his plan. “Hey! Hey, wait!” She spun around as he caught up to her, breathless and wide-eyed. She breathed a soft “Oh” as her eyes fell to the black rectangle in his hand, the lace of her breath curling up past her scarf to disappear into the crisp, March air. “I think you dropped this, too.” He pressed the phone into her palm, and his mind whispered again—Too easy!—just before her eyes lifted and cut the power to his brain. Her smile glittered like a flame, brightening her eyes from the inside. The warmth of them seemed to almost spill out and brush against his skin. She thanked him in a rush, stumbling as she pressed the phone to her chest, but he barely registered her words. What…What is this…? He searched her face over and over, but no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find an answer that made sense. There was no deception in her smile. No pity. No darkness. It existed entirely without shadow. Then. There. In the current world. The realization split the foundation beneath his feet. It was a small crack, tiny, but large enough to make him wonder, just for a moment, if the world was truly as hopeless as Mint Eye believed. It was the same crack Saeyoung and the doctors would work to widen later. The same crack Saeran was still trying to— The sharp clip of MC’s flats chased away his memory of her on the sidewalk. His eyes shot open, following her as she walked from Jumin to Zen, who was nursing his hot cider just a few feet away. Saeran sidestepped into the shadow of a pillar, hoping the movement would be discrete enough to avoid notice. Luckily, Zen struck up a conversation with the party planner before she'd even taken three steps. “Hello, beautiful~! Talking to the trust fund jerk before me? Are you trying to make me jealous?" MC shook her head at him in exasperation and Zen chuckled low in his throat, slipping an arm around her shoulders. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. So, how was the meeting? Did it bore you at all?” He tossed her a teasing look. “Considering who you were sitting next to, probably not. I think Seven put a coffee stick in your hair.” “Three, actually.” MC seemed unfazed by this and Zen eyed her with confusion, until the smirk on her face widened and she flashed him a glimpse of something in her hand. Her voice went so quiet that Saeran had to strain to hear her next words. “Only a worthy sacrifice if you help me hide these in Jumin’s desk.” “Ohhh.” Zen’s eyes flashed with mischief. “My pleasure, babe.” He plucked the mystery from her fingers and shot her a wink before sweeping across the room and out the door. Yoosung stepped over to MC as Zen left, a coffee cup in each of his hands. He held one out to her. “Is Zen okay?” he asked with a frown, “He left in a hurry…” “He’s fine, he’s fine,” MC chirped, waving his concern away. She lit up when she caught sight of the coffee. “Oh, thank you, Yoosung!” She took the mug with a smile and Yoosung practically came undone, a rosy blush creeping over his cheeks. He returned her smile, but even Saeran could see the expression didn’t quite meet his eyes. MC took a long pull from her drink, studying Yoosung thoughtfully as he fiddled with his cup. Her expression grew gentle and she asked over the rim of her mug, “How’s your new semester going?” They chatted about his syllabus, his new anatomy professor, and the recommendation letter he'd received from Jumin for veterinary school. As they spoke, Saeran watched the clouds in Yoosung’s eyes slowly begin to clear, chased away by her sunshine and careful prodding. Yoosung's shoulders lifted little by little, and the bags beneath his eyes seemed to almost disappear the moment she leaned in and wrapped her arms around him. They exchanged a whisper, MC’s lips forming the Savior’s—Rika’s—name, and Yoosung returned the embrace with surprising fierceness. Saeran felt his panic return, like needles stabbing beneath his skin. His eyes darted back to the exit, desperate for escape, but Saeyoung was still there. Babbling with Jumin now. Trapping him in. Saeran puzzled over how to escape, his mind flipping through a dozen different strategies and trying to find one that wouldn’t end in some irritating, familial argument — “Hello.” Saeran froze. Oh, fuck. Fuck. His gaze slid from his brother back to the carpet in front of him. MC stood where only emptiness had been moments before. His mouth ran dry, something like fear straightening the arch of his spine. She was as petite as he remembered, the top of her head falling just beneath his chin, but nothing about her felt small as she stared up at him. He had expected her glow to diminish if she greeted him, that a note of darkness would finally creep into her smile and distort it. He had been wrong. He had always been wrong when it came to her. He bit back a curse. Vast and glowing beneath the overhead lights, her eyes seemed to shimmer as she stared up at him. The fizzing in his chest returned, expanding until he felt he might choke on it. “I think we should start over,” she said, offering her hand. It took a moment for him to digest that she was trying to touch him. Willingly. Tension slid up his stiffened spine and filled his jaw with cement, making his teeth ache. He didn’t understand. Didn’t she hate him? She should. Didn’t she know she should? He’d used her, threatened her. He'd killed— “It doesn’t bite,” she whispered. Her smile had softened while his mind drifted, but her gaze was still electric. It held him at attention. Captivated him. Captured him. That revelation jarred his thoughts, digging up memories of bars and pain that Saeran had long buried beneath the haze of elixir. He felt his fingers begin to shake and he narrowed his eyes, desperate to make her smaller; to make her less. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets and MC’s expression wilted at the rejection. “Oi!” Saeyoung’s voice broke the quiet, making them both jump. He was jogging over to them, a smiling blur of hair and teeth. “Wait, wait, wait," he panted, "I want to introduce you!” MC’s hand had just fallen back to her side when Saeyoung stopped beside her. Saeran watched their fingers weave together before his brother clapped a hand on his shoulder, bringing up his gaze. “Saeran, this is MC.” His words were sincere despite the lopsided grin on his face. “MC, this is my brother.” “It’s really nice to meet you,” she gushed and then paused, adding quickly, “Well, formally anyway.” She sounded so honest that Saeran couldn’t help but look back at her. The wilting in her face had fled, replaced by a smile more radiant than any of the others he'd seen that day. A smile just for him. The bubbling inside him fizzed over, crashing against his heart in waves that crushed and bruised and ached. She was too much. Too bright. Like a flash of lightning in the darkness. “Welcome to the RFA, Saeran,” she said, “We’re really happy you’re here.” And she meant it. Saeran swallowed, nodding despite himself, and felt the ground tremble beneath his feet.
