Hi, I know it's a stupid question but I was wondering how Zuko calls Sokka on his mind, I mean Sokka use (his fire bender ) but what about Zuko?
I don’t think it’s a stupid question!!
Honestly… I doubt Zuko has the same mindset Sokka does, but I’m sure he thinks about his Water Tribe boy frequently.
But Zuko’s brain is more insecure & probably views himself as undeserving of Sokka’s love and affection.
So when Sokka is smiling at him & thinking “my fire bender”
Zuko is likely unraveling -
why is he staring at me like that?
Did I say something weird?
Fuck, what was the last thing I said?
Fuck I bet it was really stupid.
Why does he like me?
He said he likes me… but why?
Fuck he is still staring at me… I should say something. But something… idk nice?
Zuko: *glares at Sokka*
“what?”

"Your X-rays don’t indicate any fissures or other breaking in the skull,” his handler said as she looked over his file. She always spoke like that, as did his other handlers; the skull. Not his. Because it wasn’t his, when you got right down to it. He was a public figure. He was property. He was real estate.
And he knew what she meant when she said your x-rays don’t indicate any fissures. It meant, you’ve wasted our time. It made him sweat.

"For fuck’s sake, your chatter is going to drive me crazy faster than this stupid spell.”
“Then you talk!”
“There’s no point!” Jason snaps. “I can feel it, okay. It’s—there’s no emotion behind it, it’s not using my thoughts. It’s just a bunch of weird Greek echoing in my brain and a compulsion to act. And it’s getting stronger. Talking isn’t going to slow it down.”
“Then what will slow it down?”
After five long seconds of silence, Tim gives into the urge and viciously jabs his fist into Jason’s leg for the second time.
“Goddammit, why?” Jason snaps, green briefly sparking in his eyes before disappearing just as quickly.
“You are not seriously going to just sit there and wait to die.”
“The hell do you care anyway?”
“Because I don’t want you to die! Obviously!”

“And — just to be clear — I definitely shouldn’t unalive this guy instead of the douchebag across the street.”
“Definitely not,” Peter agrees. “No one would like that.”
Wade bangs his head against the fire escape again. “Okay, Webs. This one’s just to gauge if you’re smarter than a fifth grader: how much of that do you think I actually believe?"

All the Little Things by CSHfic, VSfic
Sokka receives an offer of an arranged marriage from the Northern Water Tribe. On the one hand, accepting would strengthen ties between their tribes. On the other hand, Chief Arnook has suggested Hahn as a potential match, and Hahn sucks. But with the future of the Southern Water Tribe Reconstruction project relying heavily on the good will of the North, Sokka doesn’t know how to say no.
(Katara doesn’t have to deal with this. Katara is dating the Avatar.)
Zuko has a solution. Sokka just wishes he’d realized he was in love with the Fire Lord before he agreed to pretend to date him.

The Fortuneteller
(A title which I am itching to divide into three words instead of two because boy does 'Fortuneteller' look stupid - seriously, stare at it for a bit and see how fast it starts looking like Fortun Eteller)
The last couple of episodes have had a contemplative character, so I'm rooting for this one to be a silly one. Also more Sokka please. Poor guy gets demoted to one liners in the B-plot whenever Aang is the main focus.
Episode Time!
Tumblr media
We start this episode off with a potential love interest for Sokka.
I had completely forgotten that Katara used to have a necklace. I'd also completely forgotten that she'd lost it. When did she lose it?
Tumblr media
Aang-o-vision has a pretty heavy rose-tinted filter - literally.
Tumblr media
Told you it was a love interest.
The NOISE Sokka makes when the fish slaps him! I love it. Hang on I'm going to rewind and listen to it again.
Yep. Still as good the second time.
Oh wow! Aang just got Momo-zoned. Gotta say I'm not a fan of a romantic relationship between Aang and Katara at this point, so I'm all for some Momo-zonage.
Platypus bear! Finally some hybrid animals. I was beginning to wonder if that would ever come back.
Tumblr media
Is this guy a martial arts master or an idiot?
I'm leaning towards idiot.
Tumblr media
Friendly reminder of Appa's size. That's a lot of molars. No canines or incisors? Guess he's an obligate herbivore.
Is sniffing eggs something that people do? I get sniffing melons or other produce, but eggs?
Yep. Floppy hat guy is an idiot.
Tumblr media
Aang buddy you might want to get that checked out.
And with a mighty squelch, the egg fulfills this episode's Beat Up Sokka quota.
Appa shakes!
Those are weird ducks.
Tumblr media
I don't know a thing about anime, but that's the most anime-looking guy I've seen in this show. Is this show an anime?
Tumblr media
Meng-o-vision is red-tinted. Probably doesn't bode well.
Also, Meng could give Zuko some lessons on how to style Pipi longstocking hair. Someone with more photoshop skills than me needs to make a Zuko with Meng hair.
"Don't be modest, they're huge!" Presented without comment. I'm not going to say a thing. But we all thought it.
Katara is totally the kind of girl who would fall for fortune telling. We've seen (multiple times) that she is gullible. Actually, now that I think about it, we've had multiple episodes where Katara gets swept up in something a healthy dose of skepticism would have guarded her from - Jet and The Great Divide come to mind. The writers are really hammering the 'Katara is susceptible to romantic nonsense and Sokka is a science-minded skeptic' message home. Is this going to play some bigger part in the show going forward? Why else would we be on version number (arguably) 3 of this same plot?
Aang and Sokka took off their shoes, but Katara didn't. Huh.
Tumblr media
Pinky out. Classy.
I am not digging the Aang x Katara stuff in this episode. I'm with Sokka on this one - let's pretend it was a stellar bathroom break.
Aunt Wu is being unnecessarily antagonistic to Sokka. First he gets an egg on his head, then Momo steals his bean puffs, now Aunt Wu tells him his life's going to suck. I should have been more specific when I hoped for a Sokka episode. I didn't mean a beat up Sokka episode.
Aang. Priorities honey. Honestly, Aang casually dismissing his destiny after all that build up did get a laugh out of me.
Tumblr media
A god-like figure coming to have his fortune read and only wanting to know about his love life would give me a headache too.
Add malicious signage to the Beating Up Sokka list.
"The fluffy bunny cloud forecasts doom and destruction." I bet that's the first time that sentence has appeared in the English language.
These people are stupid. Blazing Saddles style 'common clay of the New West' stupid. It would take, what, a day? to run a visual check on the volcano. But nope. Too much work. Listen to me I'm morphing into Sokka.
Tumblr media
Katara giving off some serious fangirl vibes.
Katara is officially addicted to fortune telling.
Tumblr media
Live footage of me watching these village idiots.
Add duck to the list of Things Which Assault Sokka. Gotta love those duck noises though.
Tumblr media
Sokka is getting dangerously close to advising negging here. Also Meng deserves better. Her poor pigtails droop in disappointment. Girl has sentient hair - she deserves better.
Papaya? When you don't like papaya? Just because some old lady said so? Too far. That's not even teenage nonsense; that's tweenage nonsense. I kind of feel like sending Katara to her room. Actually it's just like that one line Log Man said in the Jet episode. Something like 'He tells us what to do and how to think and things all turn out right.' Outsourcing your decision-making. Which, by the way, is both nonsense and cult-like. Then again, the lost boys freedom fighters pretty much worshipped Jet the way this village worships Aunt Wu, so... parallels?
Tumblr media
So if this guy got the panda lily himself, doesn't that mean that he recently went up the mountain? Couldn't he have had a peak inside while he was up there? Would have taken an extra 20 seconds.
"Flowers are fine once you're married" Somebody get this boy to Victorian times. If he ever sees an ankle he'll self-combust.
You have a flying bison. Why don't you fly up instead of climb?
Tumblr media
This is totally live action fire copy-pasted in to the animation. There has got to be a more technical term for that than copy-pasted.
Raise your hand if you saw the twist with the volcano coming. (I did I swear. Blue spirit was an outlier).
Forget Appa, why didn't Aang just fly up?
"They just won't listen to reason." "But they will listen to Aunt Wu." So the mountain comes to Mohammed. I guess talking to people in a way they understand / will listen to is a good lesson for an avatar to learn. I thought he'd learned that one in The Great Divide though. Either way this episode is getting increasingly frustrating.
Tumblr media
Can Meng get a hug? She seems astonishingly self-aware and emotionally mature for a kid. Also way too smart for this podunk town. I may rescind the hug in light of the stalking.
Tumblr media
Well, it's not exactly subtle, but at least volcanic doom isn't a fluffy bunny.
Tumblr media
Look at those yummy purples. Finally an episode where it's light enough to have a beautiful sky. My collection of wallpapers was suffering.
Digging a lava trench might work, if the volcano is going to put out a gallon or two of lava. This must be a baby volcano.
Nevermind.
The ashes effect feels oddly 3-D.
Tumblr media
I guess to an avatar this kind of challenge is small potatoes.
Totally ignoring the Aang x Katara stuff for a minute, I'm with Sokka on this one too, because I also had forgotten that Aang is a superbender. He didn't even need to go glowy.
Tumblr media
If I lived in this village that redesign would absolutely give me nightmares. Are those mega claws of doom structurally sound?
Tumblr media
I am going to punch this man.
Aunt Wu's final speech to Aang makes me think that at least she's not indulging in her own product as it were. I suppose a con artist (whose services are free, so, just jerking around a village for shits and giggles?) is better than an actual believer?
Tumblr media
MENG!!!
Final Thoughts
This episode has me thinking about stories. Part of the reason Katara wants to believe in nonsense like fortune telling is because she is someone inclined to listen to / believe in stories. I think the opening monologue of the first episode mentioned something about her grandmother's stories. Katara was raised on stories and very much took them to heart as more than just entertainment. And you can't blame her for believing the conceits of stories could be possible in their world, not after the events of episode one dumped the star of those stories in her lap. Just so long as she doesn't confuse a belief in stories with a belief in happy endings. There is a war going on in their world, and judging by the stuff that the show did not shy away from discussing or implying in episodes like The Southern Air Temple and The Storm, I am willing to bet good money that there will be a couple of unhappy endings ahead. Not permanently unhappy; this is a kids' cartoon. But there will probably be setbacks and disappointments.
Would Katara have astrology nonsense in her dating profile?
"The fluffy bunny cloud forecasts doom and destruction" is going to be incorporated into my daily vocabulary.
Platypus + bear are interesting choices for a hybrid animal, since a platypus is about 15 normal animals smashed together anyway. A platypus bear is the swiss army knife of animals. Or the Mr. Potato Head.
At first I thought that Aunt Wu was a benevolent meddler (see putting together the couple with the panda lily), but she also advised that one guy to never bathe, which doesn't benefit anyone in any way that I can see. So I've concluded that she's a Bumi level ("it's pretty fun messing with people") shit-stirrer instead. Her services may be free, but she manages to pay for a very big house, an assistant in Meng, and anime guy the bodyguard(?) so I guess grateful villagers give her donations? However she's doing it, she's got it made.
There was some sort of running theme with those large blue-billed ducks that lived in the village. If that was meant to have more meaning than just a running visual gag, I didn't pick up on it.
Meng had a surprising amount of depth and insight for what (I assume) is a one-episode character. Stalking aside, I liked her.
This episode's humourous look at the stupidity of the village (in fact the science denial of the village) is not as funny as it would have been in a pre-covid denial, pre-antivax, pre-"global warming is a hoax" world. A shallow viewing of this episode is still funny because the villagers are just SO dumb (except Meng), but the more you think about the villagers' actions and the conclusions they reach at the end of the episode (to not change AT ALL - at least the tribes made up in The Great Divide, a similarly idiot-filled episode), the more you morph into Sokka. These people have denied reality so hard that it's frustrating rather than funny to watch. Their head in the sand approach is not cute anymore.
I really wanted to like this episode. Like I said before, I wanted a goofy fun episode after the one-two punch of the last two episodes, but this one rapidly went from goofy to frustrating. I can't tell if it's because I'm not the target audience (i.e. too adult) or if it's because much of the world is currently drowning in various forms of misinformation and science denial. I know this episode isn't supposed to be deep - it's supposed to be setup for Aang & Katara as a (hopefully very distant) couple. That's all. And the message at the end about shaping your own destiny (i.e. taking an active part in your life) is a good message, and thematically relevant to the avatar, who presumably is at least somewhat responsible for shaping the whole world's destiny. But damn if this episode doesn't make my teeth itch.
Pros: Sokka had some great lines. Appa got to shake. There were pretty backgrounds. The noise Sokka made when he got slapped by the fish was a thing of beauty.
Cons: Aang and Katara are not allowed to date until they're 35. I will smack each villager individually upside the head with a science textbook. Meng deserved better.
Maybe I'm just not in the mood for this episode. I'll stick it on the rewatch list just for the Sokka fish noise.

Boiling Rage - Part 1
thanks for the request!!!!
@tobitofunction
“Saw that your open for Zuko request, maybe something about Zuko leaving Mai for the reader and Mai confronting Zuko about it in the boiling rock while reader is there was well”
I loved this idea so i wrote a lot of background too lol here’s part 1! lmk what u guys think in the comments!!! updates maybe a little slow cuz i’m trying to juggle all-honors classes, club softball, theater, and writing so please be patient, thank you! <3
word count 1.1k
~ ~ ~
You wake up to the sound of Zuko’s voice.
“How are you going to get there, on Appa? Last time I checked, prisons don’t have bison daycares.”
This is followed by sigh. Presumably Sokka’s, because he isn’t in his sleeping bag either.
“We’ll take my war balloon.”
What?
Zuko and Sokka are leaving?
Not without me, they’re not, you think.
You know the location of the balloon, and decide to follow the boys on their excursion. You silently slip out of your sleeping bag, and scale the wall of the cliffs surrounding the Western Air Temple. The forest is easy for you to navigate, as you often come there to hunt for meat and collect edible plants. And as a former Kyoshi Warrior, the obstacles and underbrush don’t deter you too much. In no time at all, you make it to the clearing where the war balloon is.
Zuko and Sokka don’t arrive for ten more minutes. When you hear them coming, you crouch in the balloon's basket.
“Okay, here it- AHH! Y/N!?”
You collapse in a fit of giggles at the look on your boyfriend’s face. Sokka appears behind him, gaping at you in shock.
Zuko takes a breath, quickly regaining his composure. “Y/N?” he repeats. “What are
you doing here?”
“Waiting for you guys, obviously,” you reply nonchalantly. “You said that you were taking the war balloon.”
Sokka gives you a smile. “So you’re coming to help?”
“Uhh, yeah. What am I helping with exactly?”
While Sokka explains the plan to liberate his dad, Zuko gets the balloon ready to fly. When he’s all set and you’re caught up to speed, Zuko starts to firebend and the balloon takes off.
You yawn, tired from getting little sleep. Sitting against the edge of the basket, you close your eyes and let the sweet darkness of sleep wash over you.
~ ~ ~
“Pretty clouds,” Sokka says awkwardly, attempting to start a conversation with Zuko.
“Yeah,” Zuko responds. “Fluffy.”
Sokka starts whistling a tune.
“What?” Zuko asks, aggravated.
“What? I didn’t… say anything,” Sokka responds. “You know, a friend of mine actually designed these balloons.”
“No kidding.”
“Yep. A balloon, but for war.”
“If there’s one thing my dad’s good at, it’s war.”
“Yeah, it seems to run in the family,” Sokka agrees accusingly.
“Hey, hold on, not everyone in my family is like that,” Zuko retorts.
“I know, I know, you’ve changed,” Sokka says, attempting to diffuse the tension.
“I meant my uncle,” Zuko mutters. “He was more of a father to me. And I really let him down.”
“I think your uncle would be proud of you. Leaving your home to come help us, that’s hard.”
“It wasn’t that hard,” Zuko admits.
“Really, you didn’t leave behind anyone that you cared about?”
“I had a girlfriend, but we broke up. I have Y/N now, though.” He looked at your sleeping form fondly.
“Is that why you broke up with…”
“Mai? Yeah.”
“Huh. That gloomy girl who sighs a lot?”
“Yeah. I… never really loved her the way I should’ve, but Y/N…” he trails off.
“How’d you meet her, anyway?”
Zuko laughs wryly. “The first time we met, I accidentally burnt down her village. But we met again in Ba Sing Se, when I was working in my uncle’s tea shop. She was kind to me, and at first I pushed her away, but… she was persistent. And eventually, I realized that I loved her. And then we met again here, and, you know.”
“Yeah.”
“What about you?” Zuko asks. “Do you…”
“My first girlfriend turned into the moon.”
“That’s rough, buddy.”
~ ~ ~
“There it is!”
You sit up groggily, and Sokka jumps up excitedly.
“There’s plenty of steam to keep us covered. As long as we’re quiet, we should be able to navigate through it without being caught,” Zuko informs.
You get up and stand beside the boys as you enter the steam cloud. The heat covers you like a wet blanket. And then the balloon starts dropping.
“We’re going down!” Zuko hisses. “The balloon’s not working anymore!”
“The air inside is just as hot as the air outside so we can’t fly!” Sokka replies.
The balloon lists to the side, and you’re all thrown against the wall of the basket. You’re pressed into Zuko, who wraps an arm around you protectively.
“So what are we supposed to do?” your boyfriend says.
“I don’t know, crash landing?”
“Careful not to touch the water,” you warn. “It may splash up on impact.”
The water grows closer until you hit it with a splash. Sokka didn’t listen to your advice, and he yelps as the water hits his hand.
A moment later, the balloon crashes into the shore. You all tumble out of the basket in a tangle of limbs.
As Sokka and Zuko argue about the Water Tribe boy’s impulsiveness, you take in the environment surrounding you. The prison is enormous and imposing, the top of the walls barely visible through the thick steam.
Maybe this wasn’t a good idea, you realize.
~ ~ ~
“I hope these disguises work,” Zuko says. You slide down the visor of your helmet.
“I’m sure they will. Stop worrying, we’ll be fine,” you assure him, squeezing his hand tightly. He gives you a small smile through the helmet’s visor, which you return.
Suddenly, a group of guards runs by the door. “Guards, there’s a scuffle in the yard! Come on,”  calls one of the actual prison guards. You all look at each other, but follow, jogging to keep up.
The scuffle in the yard is “resolved”, and Sokka goes to escort the prisoner to the coolers (whatever that means), but not before saying to meet back there in an hour.
“You! Come help get the prisoners back to their cells!” one of the older guards orders. With a start, you realize he’s talking to you.
Zuko draws in a sharp breath, but you just whisper, “See you in an hour,” and hurry after the guard.
~ ~ ~
You’re gone for much more than an hour. You didn’t realize the sheer number of prisoners before. You you did gain some information about what times the prisoners are fed, and let into the yard, and when they’re forced into jobs like mopping the floors, but   it’s nearly dark by the time you’re done. As soon as you can, you go to look for the boys.
After a while searching, you finally spot Sokka  in the dining hall.
“Hey, guard. What’s up?” you greet him.
“Y/N! Thank the spirits you’re ok. Where were you?”
“I was doing guards jobs,” you mutter. “Where’s Zuko?”
Sokka frowns. “He’s kind of… in a cooler right now?”

It's December 13th, you know what that means!
The Twelve Years of Frostmas is now LIVE on ao3!
Haha, got you, didn't I! I bet you were all thinking "Ah yes, weekly CS update, ahh shit, here we go again!" And then I FOOLED YOU! HAHA! Check it out HERE on ao3 :)
And for those who don't know, take a summary!
The Twelve Years of Frostmas
Nobody but he and I knew the truth. Jack wasn't supposed to be Santa; I wasn't supposed to be Jack Frost. He thought being Santa would fix everything. He was horribly, horribly mistaken. [My take on Jack's reign as Santa during the Escape Clause. MAJOR OC involvement AND First Person POV from said OC. Finally cross posting THIS behemoth! Enjoy!]
IT'S FROSTMAS BAYBEE!
See, there were 2 (two) thoughts I had that led to the creation of Jacqueline:
If Jack thawed and pulled a Zuko, and couldn't use his powers and didn't know why, who would help him figure it out? And
Who was Jack Frost when Jack was Santa? Surely he couldn't do both, right?
And boom! In walks Jacqueline like:
Tumblr media
And lo, Frostmas (as a concept) was born; and finally written when CS was originally near completion. Feels appropriate to start crossposting this one now that the climax of CS has resolved!
So here, take Jacqueline's humble Prologue to the Twelve Years of Frostmas.
Prologue
Jacqueline settles in to tell us the story of a fucked up little timeline she calls "Frostmas".
FINALLY on ao3 HERE :)
And of course, as always, it lives on ff.net all the way up to Year Ten. You can start it from the top on ff dot net HERE, but I'd wait a haute minute if you're checking it out there, as I will not be updating the prologue to match until I download a copy of Frostmas for posterity sake (which will be probably much later today) :)
And with that, enjoy! I'll be back closer to the end of the week (or early next week) with Chapter 28 of Crystal Springs :)
JKS JKS JKS I'M NOT DONE YET! TAKE A SNIPPET:
“Jacqueline, I’m—" Pressing my hands against my cheeks and calling up some frost, I turned back to Jack. “I know.” Cheeks sufficiently cool, I gave him my most reassuring smile. “It’s okay.” “It’s really not. Everything I did then, I—” “I know. It wasn’t okay. But you’re okay now. And I’m okay, too!” “You literally just came in here to say you weren’t okay.” “But I will be! Remember? I had a thing in mind?” “Yes! Of course!” Jack sat back up in his seat, almost but not quite as lively as usual. “Your thing that brought you into my humble adobe. What were you—what did you have in mind?” “I was thinking of writing it out.” “Writing it out?” “Yep.” “All of it?” “Yep!” “That’s a lot of paper.” “Or a really long role of parchment. I’ll have to see what we have floating around. But um, I was thinking that writing it all down would help get it out of my head, y’know? Like making a list? I’ve always found it therapeutic, writing stuff out. Easier to make sense of the more nonsensical things in life. I just…” I frowned, rubbing the back of my neck. “I didn’t wanna do it without checking in with you first.” “Whatever for?” I held my breath for a moment. “When I say all of it I mean all of it. Including your side of things. And I wanted to make sure it was okay with you first! I know it’s my story. But you played a huge part in it too. And I know you feel a lot of remorse for it all…and I know I haven’t been great about broaching it. I can only begin to imagine how you feel.” I paused for a moment, tilting my head and thinking of how to say what I wanted to say next. “I just wanted to make sure you were okay with writing it all down with me. I can’t do it on my own, Jack. I need help. Your help.” Jack straightened. His face went blank; he blinked, taken aback. He looked…touched. “Oh.”
It's been touched up so there's some good cold front comfort here, AYO! I was torn between this and a very funny section that involves grilled cheese but I'll let you experience that one for yourselves ;)
NOW, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, ENJOY!
And I'll see you all in the next few days for Chapter 28 of Crystal Springs :)

So today is Fanfic Writers Appreciation Day.
I've seen several post taking different turns at this. This one is mine. I'm going to tell you all about my favorite writers. It will be AtLA, and it will be mostly Zutara. (Those of you here for my insanity, you know me, this should not surprise you.)
Forewarning, praise incoming.
@orangepanic you introduced me to a ship I never would have thought of. Tis a fun difference to write. I love your fics and how you write Iroh II and Asami. Completely unique perspective. (I still cackle at the grocery shopping one. I have it saved for when I need a laugh.)
@asajjvxntress your New Girl AU is fantastic. I actually read it before I watched New Girl. Still had no issue following along. You write different ships but manage to keep them all as separate characters in a good way. Loved your latest (especially the updated chapter today! Finally!) Can't wait to see what you do next.
@barelyaware the emotion you pack in the scenes and the longing!! I love it. I want to yell at them to address their feelings in a good way. I know you'll make it awesome when they do. Love the reluctant travel companions. Yep. So totally them. Uncle Iroh is probably making a list on how long it takes for them to catch on...
Gods I could go on about everyone. But I have so much fic to read. I will make shout outs.
@authorjoydragon and @badlucksav fairly certain the pair of you are the reason I'm more open about different ships than I was before. All the different ships you manage to write and keep them their own.
@krastbannert and @its-sooz-again you guys helped get me to pay attention to the side characters more. Never would have thought of some of the ships you guys have. Definitely paused and gone "huh, I like it" more than once.
Gods I could go on and on and on but would be a very long post.
So go out and praise your fave writers. Talk about your fic. Tell us all about that little detail in your fic no one has picked up on. (Katara's polar bear dog in TFPWLM is a "Moon-moon" reference). Leave kudos on something new, a comment on something you go back to.
We spend hours antagonizing over the details, never mind the research. Show your favorite writers some love. Show yourself some love.
Also check out The Fire Prince Who Loves Me and Crouching Druk Hidden Zuko! Because at least a touch of self rec.
But seriously check out the awesome writers mentioned above. I can guarantee, you will not be disappointed.
Cheers!

Little Storm Cloud
The first installment of my superhero/villain au: Virgil's origin story
Unethical Funding (Logan’s origin story)
Word Count: 846
Rating: Teen
Pairings: minor Intrulogical and Roceit
Warnings: minor swearing, implied child abuse
~~~START~~~
Stupid Roman being on his stupid honeymoon. Usually, Logan would have asked Roman to check out the storm with the weird energy signal, but since Roman and Janus were on their honeymoon — gross — Remus had volunteered.
Of course, Remus had volunteered. There was a storm, Logan thought it looked strange, and Roman wasn’t available, so Remus was more than happy to see what was up. If the origins of the energy source were evil though, then Remus might just let the storm go — he was a villain, what could he say?
Volunteering didn’t mean that Remus was particularly pleased to be trudging across town though. It was pouring for Pete’s sake. (And yeah, Remus could control water and therefore protect himself from the downpour, but that wasn’t the point!)
“You’re getting close to the source of the energy signature,” Logan’s staticky voice came through Remus’s earpiece.
“Lolo, this street is abandoned,” Remus told him. He was in the middle of the suburbs — weird place for evil-doing — in the middle of the day, and all he could see were soaked cars, soaked trees, and soaked houses.
“Storms don’t normally emit these readings,” Logan reminded him. “Something has got to be causing it.”
Remus rolled his eyes but trudged on. According to his handheld scanner — one of Logan’s wonderful inventions — the source was coming from the abandoned lot at the end of the block.
The lot was surrounded by fencing and filled with random things that people abandon in lots — old tires, an antique refrigerator, broken furniture — nothing seemed out of place so far.
“I don’t see anything.” Remus carefully picked through the debris, it could be that someone hid some kind of storm generator here, but there wasn’t much evidence for any kind of nefarious plan. “How long do I have to look before calling it a day?”
“If you’re certain that there isn’t anything then maybe—”
“Wait wait shut up,” Remus ordered. There was a sound coming from the far corner of the lot. The sound was barely audible over the rain, but it sounded kinda like someone was crying. “Lolo, I think something’s here.”
“Why would anything be out in this weather?”
“I dunno, I’ll go find out. Hello?” Remus called. “Is someone there? Are you okay? Do you need help?”
“You’re starting to sound like a hero,” Logan commented dryly.
“Shut it,” Remus hissed. He’d almost reached the corner where the crying was coming from.
There! It was—
—a kid?
There was a kid, huddled against the fence, soaking wet and crying. The kid didn’t even have any protection from the downpour, what the hell was it doing out here?
“Hello?” Remus called softly. He wasn’t entirely sure how to talk to kids, but quiet and small seemed like a good idea.
The kid’s head snapped up. It stared at Remus with wide, terrified eyes.
“Are you okay?” The kid still didn’t answer. Remus tried crouching down to be closer to the kid’s level. “Do you need help? What are you doing out in this storm?”
“‘M not supposed to talk to strangers,” the kid murmured.
“A child?”
“Smart,” Remus commented. “But I’m sure you know who I am. I’m The Duke!”
The kid nodded. “You fight the dumb prince guy.”
Remus preened, extending his water umbrella to cover the kid. “I do! Where are your parents? They shouldn’t let you be out here in this weather.”
“My parents are dead,” the kid said bluntly.
“Oh… I’m sorry,” Remus floundered. “Who’s in charge of you?”
“I am fairly certain that the child is the source of the energy signature,” Logan said in Remus’ ear. “Now that I’m getting a clearer reading, it does appear to be a signature consistent with that of an untrained Atmokinetic.”
“I live in a foster home,” the kid answered, unaware of Logan’s commentary. “They probably won’t notice I’m gone.”
“That’s very mean of them.” Remus frowned, what would Roman do in this situation?
“They’re not very nice,” the kid said. “I don’t like them.”
“If you calm him down then the storm should end.”
“Would you like me to kidnap you?” Remus asked. That might not have been a good choice — and it definitely wasn’t what Roman would do — especially when Logan said he needed to call the kid down, but this kid’s guardians didn’t even seem to care that the kid was missing in the middle of a storm. Remus didn’t want to send the kid back to them.
“Will there be food?” The kid asked with such wide, innocent eyes that Remus’ heart just about broke.
Yep, this was his kid now. Logan better be ready to become a father because this was happening.
“Remus…” Logan sounded just as affected as Remus was.
“As much food as you want,” Remus promised gently.
“Okay,” the kid whispered, finally uncurling himself and standing up. Remus stood too. “My name’s Virgil. I’m eight.”
“Hello Virgil,” Remus crooned. “My name is Remus. I’m old as shit.”
Virgil started to laugh as sunshine began breaking through the clouds.
The storm had ended.
~~~END~~~
Thank you @canvas-the-florist for suggesting Roman and Remus have fire or water powers. I know you probably intended Remus to be fire and Roman to be water, but Fire, Red, Passion those are all Roman-y things. Plus it means Remus can call Roman Prince Zuko related nicknames
I had intended to start this AU with Logan's origin story, but Virgil's story called to me

need some feedback
thinking of publishing my first fanfic when I get an ao3 account and wanted to write some zutara stuff. The premise would be that Zuko gets banished from the Fire Nation for r e a s o n s and now has to attend a "regular" high school. Of course, this high school would be the one the gaang would attend (thinking of it being called Kyoshi High School but idk). This would be a modern au with stuff like phones, social media, etc. All the characters would aged up to high school age (toph and aang=15; katara= 16; zuko, suki, sokka= 17). I am currently writing in Katara's POV. Below is the first few paragraphs I wrote, feel free to read and review if interested.
I had a hard time waking up for school in the morning, especially on the first day of school. As I got up and the birds chirping in the lush forest of Kyoshi Island almost lure her back to sleep but alas, I can not start my junior year at Kyoshi High off by sleeping in. I shower, do my hair, and put on my Suki-approved first day of school outfit that we picked out last night on facetime. “Come on Kat! You have got to start off Junior year with a bang!” is what she said to bribe me into wearing a flowy dress, it's not my typical look but I will do anything for Suki, she was my first friend on Kyoshi. I was adding the final touches to my makeup when her phone vibrated.
The Gaang
6:45 A.M Today
Suks: Omg guys check out this article! What if he goes to our school lol
I click the link to be greeted with the headline, Prince Zuko set to attend Regular Highschool after a Royal Outburst! What a headline, enough to keep me reading at least.
Prince Zuko is no longer attending prestigious Fire Nation school, Rising Phoenix Preparatory School, after a fiery outburst with admiral over colony treatment after the 100 Year War in a meeting his Father, Firelord Ozai, let him sit in on. The specifics of the argument have been kept secret from the press, but it is assumed to was quite an emotional eruption as Prince Zuko has pactrically been banished as result as he is barred from attending meetings and formal events until further notice. Rumor has it, the argument also led to the break-up between him and his ex-flame, Mai. Various press outlets have spotted him traveling across the Earth Kingdom with his Uncle, renowned Commander Iroh, presumably to avoid the controversy. With him no longer on the roster of Rising Phoenix Preparatory School, one can only wonder where the 17 year-old will attend this school year.
I never understood why some people obsessed over Prince Zuko, celebrity crushes are stupid. Yes, he is attractive with golden eyes and soft black hair and even his scar but she could never be with him. He was a prince, meant to marry some noble rich girl with powerful politician parents like Mai, but I guess that didn’t work. I check the group chat for more messages.
Sokka: If he does, he better stay away from my girl >:/
Toph: Hate to say it Snoozles, but I feel like Suki would leave you if Prince Zuko was interested in her
Suks: Would not! Sokka is way better
Sokka: Thanks babe <3
Toph: Yuck
Aang: It would be so cool to have a celebrity at our school! Can you imagine?
Katara: Yeah, and Prince Zuko of all people
Toph: So you do have a thing for him!
Katara: WHAT?
Katara: I am NOT into Prince Zuko!
Toph: Yeah ya are ;)
Katara: Am not!
Toph: Yep, you def have a thing for him
Better off not answering, this will keep spiraling. Buzz buzz. Another text?
Toph: I take your lack of an answer as a yes
Whatever. Toph would have come to the conclusion anyways.
I go into the kitchen to get a bowl of cereal and I am shockingly greeted by my brother, my chronically lazy brother, up on time for school.
Yeah this is very much a wip lol

mind games [part eleven]
masterlist | part ten | part twelve
zuko x fem!reader fluff, angst smau (it has the social media elements, but not as much as the last series)
avatar: the last airbender
summary - being zuko’s best friend is the easiest thing in the world. until he gets a girlfriend and you realize you’re in love with him
warnings / includes  (this counts for any/all chapters) - fighting, suggestive, language, crying, alcohol, cheating, talk about injuries, making out, alluding to sex, talks about sex. you are sokka and katara’s older sister. you, mai, and zuko are seniors in college, sokka and suki are juniors, katara, aang, and toph are sophomores.
note - so for this one im gonna be switching pov’s. so for the first half it’ll be 2nd point of view with y/n and the second half it'll be like 2nd point of view but with jet (hope this made sense lol)
————
“so, how has living with jet been?” aang asked.
“really good,” you smiled. “he’s a really good housemate. he cooks, actually cleans. doesn’t mind that i had to take up a little more closet space.”
“wow, sounds like you have the perfect man,” suki smirked. “i do,” you sighed dreamily.
you and jet had been dating now for a little more than 4 1/2 months. you two decided that it was time to move in together. you two had already practically been living together so it seemed right to start the next phase of your relationship. you weren’t at jet’s, though. you were at an ice cream shop downtown with your friends.
living with jet was amazing, as stated, but you rarely saw your friends. college was coming to an end, too. with you and between that and looking for jobs and picking up extra shifts at the JD, it had been very busy. but you had just finished all your finals and was now ready to graduate in the next week, so you were able to relax, finally.
“how about you guys, how have you been?” you asked.
“really good! i can’t believe you won’t be at school with us,” katara frowned.
“yeah, i hate to admit it, but i’m gonna miss you,” sokka said.
you chuckled, “thanks, sokka. well, i’m not planning one really going anywhere. i’ll just be out of school, which thank the spirits for that.”
“must be nice knowing you don’t have to deal with finals anymore,” toph suck her tongue out in disgust.
“yeah, i definitely won’t miss that,” you snorted, taking a bite of your ice cream cone.
“have you found a job yet?” toph asked. ”i’ve found a few. i have yet get interviews, though. i’m waiting until the july to so i can enjoy there summer,” you explained.
“makes sense. we’ll miss you at the JD,” katara said.
“yeah, you’re the only one who makes good frappuccinos,” aang chortled.
“i know. zuko and katara just can’t grasp the recipe,” you teased.
“i can! i just prefer to make the tea. it’s a lot easier,” katara deafened.
“don’t worry. i agree,” you smiled. your phone vibrated on the table.
you turned it over, seeing that there as a text from zuko.
“is that zuko?” aang asked. “yeah, how did you know?” i asked.
“he’s been missing you lately,” sokka explained.
“oh, really? we hung out a couple weeks ago, though,” you said. “exactly. he knows you been busy so he hasn’t asked you to hang out yet, but we told him you’re less busy now,” aang said.
“oh,” you frowned. “well, he asked if we could hang out today. you guys okay if i go?”
“yeah, of course! we’ve been here for hours, anyways,” suki said.
“great. still on for the sleepover tonight?” you asked, getting up and grabbing your purse.
“you know it! have fun,” katara smiled.
“will do,” you smiled back, waving goodbye at them.
you walked to your car, getting in and driving to your friend’s and sibling’s house. you parked in the garage, going in and seeing zuko on the couch.
“hey, stranger,” you smiled, taking off your shoes.
“hey, long time no see,” zuko smiled, getting up. you hummed in reply, opening your arms out and hugging him.
“i’ve missed you,” zuko whispered.
“i’ve missed you, too. i’m sorry i haven’t reached out,” you sighed, pulling away.
“no worries. we aren’t kids anymore. we have our own life,” zuko smiled reassuringly.
“right. so, you said you wanted to talk about our plan?” you asked, walking over with zuko to the couch.
“yeah. so, how do i approach her?” zuko ask. “well, i wouldn’t suggest doing it over a date. do it at night so you can go somewhere else and sleep immediately. you two are living together, right?” you asked.
“yeah,” zuko nodded. “great, well, just tell her you need to talk to her. don’t hint at anything, be neutral about it all and break the news to her,” you explained.
“easier said than done,” zuko chuckled.
you furrowed your brows and studied his face, seeing the guilt and confusion in his eyes. you leaned against the couch and put your hand on his forearm comfortingly.
“are you sure you want to do this?” you asked. “i am,” zuko nodded.
“are you sure? like 100% positive?” you checked with him.
zuko chuckled, “yes, i am. plus, i…i like someone else.”
your eyes widened, “o-oh. this is new info. who is it?” your heart started to race and you began to feel very nervous thinking about who he could like.
“i’d rather not say just yet,” he said, averting his gaze from you.
“alright. well, no pressure,” you smiled softly. your phone then started to vibrate in your back pocket. you pulled it out, seeing that jet was calling you.
you answered it quickly. “hey, babe, what’s up?”
“hey, when’re you coming home?” jet asked.
“oh, um…” your voice trailed off as you looked at the clock. “tomorrow? i’m hanging out with zuko right now, and you know i’m having a little sleepover with the girls.”
“oh, right,” jet muttered. you furrowed your brows as he sounded annoyed and sad. you stood up off the couch, holding your first finger up to zuko to let him know you’ll be back in a minute.
you walked into the kitchen and leaned against the island counter. “hey, you sound sad. everything okay?”
“yeah, i just miss you,” jet sighed. you smiled, “i miss you, too, but i haven't seen zuko or my friends in a while.” “i know, i know. i wasn’t going to make you come home, don’t worry,” jet said.
“i didn’t think you were. i know you’re understanding.”
you and jet sat on the phone in an uncomfortable silence for a few minutes before you spoke up. you did a little awkward cough before speaking.
“so, um, i better go,” you said.
“oh, yeah, yeah, of course. i’ll see you tomorrow,” jet said.
“see you tomorrow. i love you.” “i love you, too,” jet smiled, hanging up the phone.
he sighed and gently threw his phone on the bed. he laid down, running his hands through his hair and down his face. he felt so jealous. so jealous of you and zuko. he knew it was silly since you have been nothing but loyal to him, but the unwanted thoughts of you and zuko still crept into his mind every so often. he was thankful you two didn’t live together anymore and that you lived with him now, but jet was beginning to think that wasn’t enough.
even though you and zuko weren’t living together and didn’t hang out as often, you two were constantly texting and calling. jet often found you downstairs late at night texting zuko, smiling and laughing at whatever he said. it made jet’s blood boil to see another guy making you happy, especially since it was a known fact - not between you and zuko, though - that you had a thing for zuko a while back. jet was positive that you still had a thing for him, no matter how much you denied it.
he sat up on his bed and grabbed his phone, getting up and going to the only person he knew would understand; mai.
he drove to her house, going up and knocking on the door. mai answered the door almost immediately, a surprised but pleasant smile on her face.
“hey, jet. what’re you doing here?” she asked.
“i was just seeing if you were free. y/n and zuko are hanging out, and we haven’t hung out in a while,” jet shrugged.
“right, right. well, come in,” mai held the door open for him. jet stepped in with a smile, walking into the living room.
“i like what you did with the place,” jet noted, looking around at the new furniture and decorations. there were a lot more brighter colours than he remembered.
“thanks. ty lee said i should make the place more lively,” mai chuckled.
“glad you took her advice,” jet smiled.
mai nodded, “are you hungry? i was just about to eat some leftover pizza.”
“yeah, sure. you got any beers?” jet asked.
“yep,” mai said, going over to the kitchen. “make yourself comfortable!”
“thanks,” jet said and sat down on the couch.
mai came in with a pizza both and a six pack bottle of beer. mai and jet watched tv for a while, getting drunk on the beer. after a while of silence, mai decided to ask jet about what he thought about you and zuko.
“so, you jealous of zuko and y/n, too?” zuko asked.
jet’s brows raised, “w-what?”
mai smirked and turned fully to him. “that’s the reason why you came here, because of zuko and y/n.”
jet sighed, turning to her. “yeah. you caught me.”
“they act like they’re dating each other,” mai rolled her eyes. “zuko is always like “y/n this”, “y/n that”, “look what y/n said”, “sorry, i’m talking to y/n”. god, it’s all so annoying.” “and they always stay up late talking to each other! like, i understand they’re each other’s best friends, but we’re here, too.” “right!” mai nodded. “i wouldn’t be surprised if they were making out right now.” jet frowned and looked down. “you think they are?”
“mmm, i wouldn’t doubt it,” mai shrugged.
jet looked up at mai, his eyes meeting her’s. he studied her face for a few moments, his eyes roaming her face and stopping at her lips. mai noticed his gaze and smirked, scooting closer to him. she put her hand on his thigh, her fingers snaking up his leg.
“m-mai, what’re you doing?” jet stammered. his heart was racing a million beats per second.
“c’mon, we both know zuko and y/n are in love with each other. plus, i’m pretty sure zuko is going to break up with me soon. let’s just have some fun, okay?” mai gave jet a flirtatious look, biting her lip and batting her lashes.
jet sighed, looking into mai’s eyes. he knew in his heart that you weren’t cheating on him with zuko, or anyone, but the just thought of you with zuko, kissing him, running your fingernails all over his back, moaning his name, it clouded jet’s mind with anger and fear. without thinking rationally, jet smashed his lips onto mai’s.
both melted into the kiss immediately, grabbing at each other and pressing themselves closer to each other. after a few moments of kissing, jet pulled away, looking a mai with wide, shocked eyes. the kiss with mai honestly felt amazing.
mai smiled at him, taking his hand into her’s. “wanna go upstairs?”
jet nodded furiously, getting up off the couch, mai leading him up to her bedroom.

Sorting the main cast of AtLA into Hogwarts Houses
I know I’m late to the party because I’ve seen many different people tackle this before, but I feel like it is my civic duty as both a Potterhead and an AtLA stan to put in my two cents, since every single time I’ve seen it talked about people either misinterpret what each House values in their members or pick a House by taking into account only one aspect of their personalities. I want to make it clear that these are my own opinions, which I’m basing on the definitions we’ve gotten of the main traits of each House over the years and the “core values” of each AtLA character, and that I’m in no way am I trying to insult anyone who thinks differently. That being said, here goes nothing!
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the easy ones. Namely, the Fire Siblings:
1) Azula is 100%, undoubtedly, definitely, incontrovertibly Slytherin. Just doing a quick rundown of the qualities Salazar Slytherin prized in his handpicked students, as stated by the Sorting Hat, Albus Dumbledore and Pottermore: Cunning? Check. Resourcefulness? Check. A disregard for rules? Check. Using any means to achieve her ends? Check. Shrewdness? Check. Ambition? Check. Self-preservation? Check. Pride? Check. An argument could even be made that, as a member of the Fire Nation Royal Family, Azula also kind of meets the “blood purity” criteria. I’m sure most of us agree on this. Even if she does exhibit a lot of loyalty to her father as well as courage and intelligence, there is just no contest. Azula is one of the most Slytherin characters I’ve ever seen outside of the Harry Potter universe.
Tumblr media
2) In the same way, Zuko is irrefutably a Hufflepuff. Hear me out! I know that he’s very brave and daring, but when we think of Zuko, what is his most essential trait, what do people tell us again
Tumblr media
and again
Tumblr media
about Zuko’s character?
He’s a hard worker. And what’s the House of the hard-working?
"You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, And unafraid of toil.”
You guessed it. Hufflepuff. Of course, that’s not the only trait valued by this House that he exhibits. Who is more loyal in the series than the child who got half his face burned off and still did his best to earn the love and respect of the one responsible? Who never faltered in his loyalty even when he was sent away on an impossible mission? Who spouted angry words most of the time yet was willing to let his ticket home go temporarily in favor of ensuring the safety of his Uncle and his crew? That’s right, our boy Zuko. That very loyalty to his father is what unfortunately bound him for the longest time, until he was forced to face what a monster he was and let go of it in favor of more important things, namely his own morals and his loyalty to his Uncle.
He also has an incredibly strong sense of justice, as proven by the above statements, as well as this moment:
Tumblr media
and he can be incredibly patient when he needs to be, as seen during The Blue Spirit and the Southern Raiders episodes.
Hufflepuffs are also said to be fair (which he clearly is), dedicated (need I say more?), honest (which Mr. shouts-his-feelings-at-the-top-of-his-lungs and can’t-lie-without-being-obvious-or-glancing-away-and-has-been-found-out-every-time-he-tried of course is) and modest (this one he starts without but by the time he joins the Gaang there isn’t anyone more modest or humble)
Tumblr media
As “an idealist with a pure heart and unquestionable honor” , Zuko is the Hufflepuffiest Hufflepuff to ever Hufflepuff and I will die on this hill
3) Another easy one is our girl Suki, whom I’d say is a Gryffindor through and through, even if she is very loyal to her friends.
The rest of the Gaang under the cut.
The other members of Team Avatar are a bit trickier because they all exhibit a pretty even mix of traits from more than one House, but still if we just concentrate on their defining characteristics we can get to an answer.
4) I’d argue that Sokka belongs in Ravenclaw, even though he is of course quite brave and extremely loyal to his loved ones, not only because he’s a strategist and an inventor, but also because, as best stated by Master Piandao:
Tumblr media
Ravenclaws most value wit, learning, intelligence, creativity and wisdom (this last one is a bit iffy but I’m sure he’ll get there when he’s older), as well as priding themselves on being original in their ideas and methods. That’s Sokka to a T.
Tumblr media
5) Katara gave me a hard time. She’s unbelievably loyal to her friends and family, she’s compassionate, patient, fair, hard working and dedicated, with a REALLY strong sense of justice, so a case can be made for Hufflepuff easily. However she can also be quite cunning when she wants to (most obviously during The Waterbending Scroll, City of Walls and Secrets, The Painted Lady, and The Runaway), she has a lot of ambition (if you count every variation of “I will make the world a better place by force if I have to”), she disregards the rules when it suits her (again The Waterbending Scroll as well as The Runaway) and she can be proud at times, so we could argue she’s a Slytherin. She’s also undoubtedly very intelligent and even quite wise for her age. It took me a while to decide but then I pondered; at her very core, what are the statements that define her? What words just scream “that’s it, that’s Katara”? They are, of course, these two phrases:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first sounded incredibly Gryffindor to me, and the second is half Gryffindor half Hufflepuff, so it had to be between those two. As such, I decided to look into Gryffindor first. Katara is, of course, astoundingly courageous, but what else? I had to actually look up definitions for the Gryffindor traits besides courage because they all just kinda meant “brave” to me initially 😅, but what I found was:
*Nerve: “one's steadiness and courage in a demanding situation”. Yep. Who’s the most level-headed, steady and reliable person whenever the Gaang is in any kind of pinch? That’s right. Katara
Tumblr media
*Daring: “adventurous or audaciously bold“. Yep. I’d say she ties with Toph for boldest in the Gaang
Tumblr media
*Determination: “firmness of purpose”. Yep, absolutely. See the above image from the Painted Lady. ‘Nuff said.
*Chivalry: can mean 2 things, one is “sum of the ideal qualifications of a knight, including courtesy, generosity, valor, and dexterity in arms”. All of that is true of her (her “arms” being her waterbending), but I found it interesting that to be chivalrous can also mean “gracious and honorable toward an enemy, especially a defeated one, and toward the weak or poor”. I’d argue that this fits her even more. Once again, just take a look at The Painted Lady episode.
*Courage and bravery: they can mean the same thing, namely “the ability to do something that frightens you” and of course that fits Katara, but the word courage in particular has another meaning, which is “strength in the face of pain or grief”...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d say she’s pretty good at that. I think that settles it, Katara is a Gryffindor.
Turns out that when it came to the water tribe siblings Bato was right all along
Tumblr media
6) For Toph I was split between Gryffindor (thinking of her brash, bold nature) and Slytherin for a while, but after looking into Katara and researching all those definitions I think I have to give it to Slytherin. Of course, Toph doesn’t seem to be very ambitious unless you count “being recognized as the greatest earthbender in the world”, but she is quite cunning. She knows exactly how to use her “poor helpless blind girl” persona to get what she wants, as seen both on The Blind Bandit and The Runaway. She’s also an extremely good actress, being able to play the “reserved and obedient little girl” to her parents for years, and being easily able to pick it back up when it suits her.
Tumblr media
She’s also stubborn, proud, and 100% willing to use any means, regardless of laws or rules, to get what she wants.
Tumblr media
As for self preservation? Remember that her response when asked to teach Aang, which was crucial to save the world but would’ve compromised her secret, was this:
Tumblr media
Slytherins can also “hesitate before acting, so as to weigh all possible outcomes before deciding exactly what should be done “ and my first instinct was to say that it didn’t fit Toph at all, but what is Toph if not a person who “waits and listens before striking”? Slytherins tend to favor Neutral Jing it seems.
Almost forgot that as a daughter of the Beifong family she’s sort of nobility and she technically also meets the “blood purity” criteria.
7) Finally, we get to my boy Aang. He was really difficult. He’s loyal, patient, fair, kind, modest (usually) and just but I can’t really call him a hard worker most of the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s brave, adventurous, determined and chivalrous but he does tend to get discouraged during demanding or stressful situations (his friends always make it better though)
Tumblr media
He’s creative, very wise for his age, and quite smart (except when he’s playing around with Sokka in which case they share one brain cell 😂)
Tumblr media
He can even be cunning when he needs to be. If he ever went to Hogwarts, he’d definitely be a Hat Staller like Harry. I heard someone say once that they considered Aang a Gryffindor because he liked to show off a lot, but that’s not really a Gryffindor trait (think of Neville Longbottom, Remus Lupin, Harry Potter and Minerva McGonagall. I think any one of them would sooner Stupefy themselves than go show off their skills in front of a crowd for no reason other than to brag).
Once again, we must pin down what it is that defines him, what his core is. After much thought, I decided it’s this:
Tumblr media
It’s his compassion, which he learned from his people, and his desire to value and protect all life. It’s his loyalty to the ideologies of the Air Nomads of which he is the last remaining bastion. It’s his strong moral code, his sense of right and wrong, his wish to make friends and to believe the best of everyone. That’s his center. That is what makes him Avatar Aang. In light of that, I think we can consider Aang, first and foremost, a Hufflepuff.
In the end, Team Avatar is made up of one Ravenclaw, one Slytherin, one Gryffindor (two after Suki joins), and two Hufflepuffs
Ironic, that the House least valued in the Harry Potter universe is the one that houses arguably the most pivotal characters of Avatar the Last Airbender: Zuko and Aang. Fitting, that even in this they parallel each other.
This is already long enough so I don’t think I’ll do Mai, Ty Lee, or Iroh. Maybe some other time.

Tumblr media
The steaming hot liquid in the pot reminded you of a long time ago. Of a small tea shop in the Earth Kingdom to be more specific. And so did the boy that poured it.
“No one can make tea like Uncle, but hopefully I learned a thing or two. Would you like to hear Uncle’s favorite tea joke?” He balanced a tray full of cups as well as a kettle. “Sure,” Katara said. “I like jokes,” Aang agreed and Toph didn’t seem unenthusiastic either. “Bring it!”
“Okay,” Zuko nodded, serving tea to the Duke and Haru before standing up, holding the tray. “Well, I can’t remember how it starts, but the punch line is “Leaf me alone, I’m bushed!”
The group stared at him. Silently.
“Well, it’s funnier when Uncle tells it,”
“Right ...” Katara dragged out the word. “Maybe that’s because he remembers the whole thing,” And as the rest of the group started laughing, Zuko gave a small smile. “It’s nice to get a chance to relax a little. It hardly ever happens,” Toph said, grabbing the cup Zuko handed her, before he approached Sokka. “Hey, can I talk to you for a second?" Your eyes followed the Water Tribe boy as he walked out, shortly followed by the prince. “What was that about?” You furrowed your brows, turning to Katara. “I don’t know,” She shrugged, sipping on her tea. “Hopefully my brother isn’t plotting anything stupid,”
The Team stayed gathered together around the fire until the sun left the sky and the night broke in.
Soon you were cuddled into your warm sleeping bag, the fire long since diminished. Your brows furrowed unconsciously upon a distant rustle, mind still foggy from your dreams. Drifting away once more, your features relaxed, only to be interrupted again seconds later. Sleepily you blinked your eyes open, trying to see through the dark with a cloudy vision.
It was probably nothing, you thought, turning around onto your other side, and the last thing you saw was the empty bedroll next to you...
Wait.
Empty?
You shot up, getting tangled in the sheets and tumbling over before you caught yourself. Careful not to wake the others, you stood up, looking around.
Where could he have gone? Had he left and betrayed you again? But how would he even get away?
You shook your head at the thought before it occurred to you. Appa! He wouldn’t, would he? You ran towards the bisons sleeping spot, heart beating rapidly, as if you didn’t know what to fear more: Finding Appa gone, or the prince.
Your lungs ached as you rounded the last corner, where you found the bison, fast asleep. A breath of relief passed your lips, walking up to him and crawling the soft furr next to his snout, to which he purred quietly. Suddenly a head appeared above the saddle, prompting a startled gasp from you. “(Y/N)?”
“Zuko!” You hissed, a hand over your chest. “What are you doing here?” The shadow questioned looming over you. “I’m the one that should be asking that question!” You pulled yourself up to the saddle, sick of him staring down at you. He grabbed your arm, pulling you up and finally explained when you landed next to him. “I have the feeling that Sokka might be up to something,” He drew his hood back and furrowed his brows. “Up to what exactly?” You searched his appearance for any indications, but he didn’t give anything away. “He asked me about the war-prisoners today. Where they would be put away,” Your eyes widened. “The Boiling Rock,” He nodded. “Exactly. I have the suspicion that he might try to-”
Your whispers where interrupted by silent steps in the distance and a quiet “Shhh,” from below. You and Zuko shared a look as someone climbed up, and eventually peaked over the rim of the saddle. “Not up to anything, huh?” The prince asked, arms crossed. Sokka fell, with a stiffled scream, his bags content spilling out on the floor. He gave you a resigned look. “Fine, you caught me. I’m gonna rescue my dad. You happy now?”
“No!” You exclaimed, while Zuko took an entirely different approach. “I’m never happy,”
"Look, I have to do this. The invasion plan was my idea, it was my decision to stay when things were going wrong,” The prince raised a brow at his words and jumped down from the saddle. “It’s my mistake, and it’s my job to fix it. I have to regain my honor. You can’t stop me, Zuko. And neither can you (Y/N),” He pushed Zuko aside, beginning to climb up to you. ”You need to regain your honor?” The prince questioned. “Believe me, I get it. I’m going with you,”
“No. I have to do this alone,”
You put a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it softly. “No, you don’t, Sokka. We’re all in this together. We’re here for you,” Zuko nodded, motioning to the bison. “And besides, how are you going to get there? On Appa? Last time I checked, prisons don’t have bison daycares,” The boy looked between the two of you, before he sighed, shoulders slumping. "We’ll take my war balloon,” Zuko gestured for you to follow him, before leading the way.
The travel to the Boiling Rock remained silent for the most part.
Sokka had sat down on stack of boxes, while you leaned against the railing. Zuko blasted fire into the tank from time to time, making sure it kept moving. But eventually even the silence got deafening. “Pretty clouds,” Sokka spoke up. “Yeah ... fluffy,” You resisted the urge to slap a hand against your forehead, while Sokka whistled. "What?” Zuko said, giving him a look. “What? Oh, I didn’t say anything. You know, a friend of mine actually designed these war balloons,”
“No kidding,” The prince raised his brows. “Yep, a balloon ... but for war,” Zuko blasted more fire into the tank. “If there’s one thing my dad’s good at, it’s war,”
“Yeah, it seems to run in the family,” The firebender gave him a defensive look. “Hey, hold on. Not everyone in my family is like that,” Sokka held his hands up. “I know, I know, you’ve changed,” The prince lowered his gaze, shacking his head slightly. “I meant my uncle. He was more of a father to me. And I really let him down,” He gave you an indefinable look, but he redirected his attention so quick that you wondered wheter you’d just imagined it.
“I think your uncle would be proud of you. Leaving your home to come help us? That’s hard,” The boy argued, fumbling with his boomerang. “It wasn’t that hard,” Sokka’s head shot up. “Really? You didn’t leave behind anyone you cared about?”
“Well, I did have a girlfriend. Mai,” You bit your lip to keep quiet, waiting for his next words. “We tried for some time but it didn’t work out. It wasn’t what I wanted,” He seemed to have more to say, but Sokka interrupted with a sly smile. “That gloomy girl who sighs a lot?”
"Yeah,” Zuko confirmed, giving you a quick glance that went unnoticed. “My first girlfriend turned into the moon,” Zuko’s brows shot up before he briefly looked into the sky. “That’s rough, buddy,” He said, eyes landing back on Sokka. “What about you, (Y/N)?” You grew stiff, staring at Sokka’s face. “Me?”
“Yes, what about you? Any lovers in sight?” You crossed your arms, taking a moment to think. Zuko’s burning eyes roamed over your silhouette, but you didn’t dare meet his eyes. “No,” You answered eventually, lowering your head. “No one,”
By nightfall Sokka had fallen asleep, preventing you to do so with his loud snores.
Zuko was busying himself with keeping the tank full, while you took a look out in the distance.
“There it is!” You alerted the others, pointing towards the large construction. The Water Tribe boy awakened from his slumber, staggering over to see it. ”There’s plenty of steam to keep us covered. As long as we’re quiet, we should be able to navigate through it without being caught,” Zuko plotted. But as you entered the volcano’s steam, the balloon began to lose altitude quickly. “We’re going down! The balloon’s not working anymore!” Zuko blasted fire up into the balloon, but with no avail. “The air outside is just as hot as the air inside so we can’t fly!” You said, grabbing his arm to stop him. “So what are we supposed to do?” His gaze flew from you to Sokka. “I don’t know!” He said. “Crash-landing?”
The balloon skidded along the boiling water, splashing Sokka’s hand, which he shook while you put a hand over his mouth to keep him from screaming. Your aircraft hit the base of the rock, throwing you out in the process. You moaned, getting up and rubbed your sore hip. “How are we gonna get off the island if the balloon won’t work?” Zuko groaned, looking at the destroyed object. Sokka seemed to be more optimistic. “We’ll figure something out! I suspected it might be a one-way ticket,” The fire bender furrowed his brows. “You knew this would happen and you wanted to come anyway?”
“My dad might be here! I had to come and see!” Sokka walked towards the destroyed remains of the balloon. “Uncle always said I never thought things through. But this ... this is just crazy!”
“Hey, I never wanted you to come along in the first place! And for the record, I always think things through! But my plans haven’t exactly worked, so this time, I’m playing it by ear. So there,” He said gathering the balloon and throwing it into the water. ”What are you doing?”
“It doesn’t work anyway,” He shrugged. “And we don’t want anyone to find it,” You sighed. “I hope you know what you’re doing,” You turned towards the prison. “There’s no turning back now,”
By the time the sun came up, the three of you had found a supply room, stacked with reserve guard uniforms.
“I hope these disguises work,” Zuko said, voice muffled by the mask. “We just need to lay low and find my dad as soon as possible,” Sokka said, blue orbs peaking out of the slit. They were just as beautiful as Katara’s. Your head whipped around whe a series of guards ran by, one coming back to look at your team. “Guards! There’s a scuffle in the yard. Come on,” He gestured wildly. Prisoners were gathered in the yard, forming a circle as the guards moved through to the inside.
“I didn’t do anything! I’m going back to my cell,” A tall man called, as a guard whipped fire in his direction. “Stop right there, Chit Sang,” Zuko tried to approach, but your hand shot forward to stop him. “We can’t blow our cover,” You whispered.
“I’ve had it with your unruly behavior!” The guard yelled, getting more riled up by the second. “What did I do?” Chit Sang asked. “He wants to know what he did,” The guard gloated, looking at you. ”Isn’t that cute?" His face grew sour when none of you answered and your tongue felt tied, prompting you to nudge Zuko in the side. “Uh, very cute, sir,”
“Super cute,” Sokka added. The guard walked up to Chit Sang, getting into his face. “You didn’t bow down when I walked by, Chit Sang!” The man looked confused. “What? That’s not a prison rule,”
“Do it!”
“Make me,” The guard growled walking away, but not without whipping fire at the male. Chit Sang blocked it, redirecting the flame to its owner, who broke it with a kick. “Tsk, tsk. Firebending is prohibited. You’re going in the cooler,” He ordered. “You! Help me take him in,”
“Meet back here in an hour,” Sokka whispered to you and Zuko before following the command.
But you didn’t meet in an hour.
In fact, not even you and Zuko managed to stay together, soon being pulled into two different directions due to commands. While you ended up in the weaponry, you had no idea were the others went. “Not your first time doing this, huh?” A guard leaned against the wall next to you, arms crossed. You gave him a brief look, before you resumed sharpening the swords and knifes. “Not really,” He took his helmet off, raising a brow. “How come?” You shrugged, not meeting his gaze. “I’m a non-bender. You need to know your weapons if you want to defend yourself,”
“True,” he inclined his head, taking a knife of his own and starting to prepare it. “I’m impressed. Not many non-benders manage to get employed at the Boiling Rock. Normally they prefer fire benders,” You hummed, grabbing fire the next weapon. “Guess I must be special then,” The guard gave you an amused grin. “You don’t have to wear the mask in here by the way. It’s more of a representative part,” You choose to ignore his comment, instead trying to redirect the conversation. “Hey, can I ask you something? It’s all pretty new to me and I didn’t get to explore everything yet,”
The thought didn’t seem to bother him, featured remaining relaxed. “Sure, rookie. Ask away,” You subtily cleared your throat, attempting not to sound suspicious. “I know the Boiling Rock holds the Fire Nations most dangerous criminals. But what about war prisoners? Do they end up here as well?”
The man shrugged. “If they make it this far... probably,”
“So...” You swallowed. “Any Water Tribe inmates here?” He huffed a short laugh. “You’re pretty interested in those prisoners for a guard,”
“Am I? Shouldn’t I know who I’m watching over?” He shrugged. “I guess so. You’re just very specific about it,” It was time to shut up, you concluded, grabbing a knife. “Well, anyways, thank you for the-” The words god stuck in your throat when you saw Zuko passing by through the window in the door. If you hadn’t been convinced by his amber eyes, then for sure by the time you saw his scar.
“I have to go.” You muttered, subtly slipping the weapon into your pocket. “Hey! Wait up!” The guard yelled rushing after you. You’d just managed to slip through the door, when he grabbed your upper arm. A few seconds later and you would’ve managed to blend in with the others in the lounge. “You can’t just leave. Your work isn’t done yet,”
“Sorry,” you retorted, desperate to reunite with your group. “but I can’t stay.” You rammed your elbow into his ribs, knocking the air out if his lungs. The halls were empty, thanks to the midday meal everyone joined. If you’d manage to lock him into the weaponry you could leave undetected.
You grabbed him, shoving him back into the room and slamming the door shut, before sticking the knife through the handle and using your fire to heat up the metal, sealing it shut. You breathed a relieved sigh as he banged his fists against the door and turned around, colliding with a large chest.
“What do we have here?” The man grinned, locking you in a tight grip that made you squeeze your eyes shut. "I arrive late to the break one time, and there's already trouble," He produced a flame, melting the blockade. The guard you’d locked in opened the door, his face distorted in anger. “She locked me into the weaponry, asked a lot of questions and lied about being a non bender,” He spat, glaring at you.
“Well,” the male behind you said. “What do you want do with this imposter?” The guard snarled.
“Throw her into the cooler!”

Summary: Republic City ambassadors Sokka and Azula spend the day of Two Lovers' together.
Read on ao3 or below the cut
Sokka stood in the door of Azula’s office, “Ambassador Azula.” She didn’t look up from the stack of papers in front of her, “Can I help you, Peasant?” He let out a warm laugh and strolled further into her office, though he hadn’t been invited in.
His large brown fingers tapped on her desk, “It’s the feast day of Oma and Shu.” Her brows were pinched together as she studied the paper in front of her. She spun her quill in her fingers, “So?”
“So…you, me, couples massage.” She finally looked up at him, her brows still pinched together in annoyance. But then she really looked at him. He was taller than her, his muscles well defined and his brown skin was practically glowing in the evening sun. He tapped her desk again, “Come on, you’ve been a walking ball of stress the whole week and it’s been stressing me out.”
She had every right to be stressed. Her brother had trusted her to be the Fire Nation’s ambassador to Republic City and he had finally picked this week to check up on her. As if she was someone who needed to be checked in on. But Zuko’s visit had set Sokka on edge too. Zuko had put a lot of work into the new Republic City. Neither of them wanted to let him down.
It further complicated matters as Azula and Sokka decided to be fuck buddies. Well, at least, that’s what she thought they were. They had never really agreed to anything, but every few nights they went back to one of their apartments and fucked away the stress of trying to create something that had never been done before.
Except this last week, Azula had curled in on herself. She avoided Sokka at all costs. She couldn’t have Zuko know she was being anything but professional. She imagined it night after night in different forms- Zuko accusing her of not having changed, of manipulating Sokka. Azula couldn’t go back to the asylum. She was different, she had changed.
She had managed to stay away from Sokka the entire week and her brother seemed pleased at the work the council had accomplished. She waved goodbye to her brother earlier that afternoon on the docks, relieved that she was not on a boat back to the asylum.
She was brought back to the present by Sokka gently rubbing her hand, “Princess?” Her brows snapped back together in annoyance, “I’m not the Princess anymore.” Sokka’s bright blue eyes rolled, “Alright, former Firelord, we gotta go, we’re gonna be late.” Her golden eyes were still hard as she studied him. He walked around her desk and pulled her chair out, “Look, I don’t have a palanquin, but if I have to haul you over my shoulder-”
She shoved out of her chair and strode confidently out of her office. His large lazy strides kept pace with her. She flounced down the stairs, “We are going to a massage?” “Yep, Fire Nation and Watertribe ambassadors participating in Earth Kingdom traditions on an Earth Kingdom holiday.” She rolled her eyes, “It’s an asinine holiday.”
They pushed out of the doors and onto the busy street. He put his hands in his pockets, “Oh come on, be a good sport. We’re also going out to eat after.” She stopped walking and turned on him, “You made all these little schemes without conferring with me?” His eyes were soft as he looked down at her, “First of all, they are plans not schemes. Second of all, you’ve avoided me like a plague of pentapox all week. When was I supposed to tell you?”
She was going to have a permanent wrinkle in her eyebrows from glaring at him, “Pentapox isn’t a real disease, it’s something you conjured up dum-dum.” “Your Fire Nation army bought it, so they’re the real dum-dums.” Azula had changed, but she still didn’t like to be reminded of her failings. She venomously hissed at him, “4c.” He brushed it off and replied, “Oh, 7d.”
He started walking and she followed along, determined to get the last word. They had many arguments since the war ended, so they started short handing their debates with listed points. For example, 3f was “If you’re such a good strategist why did you fuck up on the day of the black sun?” and 42h was “If you’re such a good firebender, why is your fire the wrong color?”
Azula was pulled out of their argument as Sokka pushed open a shop door and bells tinkled to warn the owner of their arrival. It was a bit darker, with peaceful music low in the background and a few candles around. It smelled earthy, like they were in a hut in the swamp.
An Earth Kingdom gentleman bowed to them, “Ambassadors welcome, I am pleased that you are celebrating the feast day. Come right this way.” They followed him further into the shop into a smaller room with two cots. The man said, “I will leave you to undress to your comfort level. The masseuses will be in shortly.”
The door clicked shut behind him. Azula plopped onto a cot, fully clothed. Sokka started twisting off his tunic and snorted, “You’re supposed to undress.” Azula sniffed haughtily, “He said to my comfort level.” Sokka snapped his tunic off and kicked his boots into a corner of the room, “This will help you relax, I promise.” And no one had ever looked at Azula and promised that something good would happen to her, so she turned away from him and shrugged out of her tunic and pants.
They both got underneath the sheet of each cot. She laid on her stomach and rested her head on her folded forearms. She looked over at Sokka and he gave her a small smile. There was a sharp rap at the door and then two Earth Kingdom women walked in. Both of them cooed over Sokka and greeted him and it was very obviously not his first time here.
They asked happily, “What areas should we focus on today?” Sokka pointed at Azula, “Her shoulders and back. I just want my usual.” They nodded and then Azula felt one of the woman’s hands on her neck and Agni, did it hurt. She winced at the pain and heard the crackle of electricity in her finger tips.
She didn’t like being touched. She didn’t like not knowing what was going to happen next. How many people had laid on this cot? When was the last time these sheets had been washed?
Sokka’s voice sounded relaxed, “Doin’ okay over there, Princess?” “Fine,” she ground out, as the horrible wench prodded a particularly painful tissue in the side of her neck. The woman softly encouraged, “It may help you relax if you hold hands with your loved one.” Sokka reached in her direction, “Come on, loved one. ” “Do you ever shut up?” She snapped as she put her smaller hand in his.
He moved his hand up and held her wrist, avoiding the heat that was pumping in her finger tips. She took a deep breath to center herself. The massage was doing something with her chi. She took another deep breath. The candles in the room rose and fell with her breath.
She bit her lip as the woman’s hand dug into her shoulder blade. She kept conscious of her breathing and Sokka lazily rubbed her wrist. It put her slightly more at ease.
An hour later they strolled out of the shop. Azula had a bounce in her step, “I feel so relaxed.” Sokka looked down at her, “Oh, I’m glad one of us does. I could practically feel the lightning about to come out of you.” She rolled her eyes, “Oh don’t be so dramatic.” “Right, I’m the dramatic one,” he scoffed.
They walked a ways. Sokka quickly ducked into a shop and picked up a bag of food. As the sun finally set, he led them down to the docks. They sat quietly as Sokka unpacked the containers of food and handed her chopsticks. She spotted the container of mochi and immediately grabbed for it.
The lights of the ships illuminated their meal. Sokka broke the quiet by asking, “Did I ever tell you I went to the cave of two lovers? It was easily one of the most annoying days of my life.” She arched an eyebrow, “More annoying than today?” The grin he gave her was her favorite, lopsided and goofy, “Today doesn’t even come close.”
She cleared her throat, “Why didn’t you spend today with someone you actually like?” His face immediately morphed into confusion, “What?” “It’s the feast day of Oma and Shu- the day of two lovers. Why not spend it with someone you’re romantically interested in?” He face palmed and groaned, “For fuck’s sake.” He took a deep breath and asked, “Azula, what do you think has been going on with us the last few months?”
She answered, “You were nice to me and we became fuck buddies.” “Fuck buddies?” He asked incredulously. “Azula, I’ve brought you flowers, taken you out after council meetings.” He shook his head and started to stand up, “You know what, it’s fine. I’ll see you next week. Actually I might take a week or five off.”
She sprung up and had to sprint after him. She cursed him and his longer legs, “Sokka, wait.”  She caught up to him and grabbed his hand, “Just wait. I- I didn’t realize.” He bit his lip and shook his head in disappointment. She gripped his hand tightly. She didn’t know what to say, but she had to try, “Sokka, please. I like you.”
The old Azula would have been disgusted as the tears threatened to spill, but she was no longer above begging.
He brushed a stray hair out of her face and rested his forehead against hers, “I like you too. There’s no one I’d rather spend today with.”

TBT! Avatar: The Final Conflict
So here we are...I guess it’s time for me to post this link.
I’m actually quite proud of this story. It had been on my mind since the show ended and I dove into the wonderful world of ATLA fanfic. It took me a while to start- and then finish- this story. I posted the first chapter a good 3 years after the series finale of ATLA, and I didn’t post the last chapter until March of...this year???  That can’t be right...
Let me check the dates on the story...
Yep...that’s correct. This story took me 8 years to finish. Lord, have mercy...
Tumblr media
So, I guess the lesson here is, don’t assume I’ve given up on a story just because it takes me a while to finish? ahemDjinnDilemmaahem...
Eight years...wow. Imagine that.
This story is a sequel to A Word Between Friends, which I featured in a TBT post about a month ago, but The Final Conflict was actually in the works first.
My memory of what- aside from that disaster of a finale- inspired me to write this might be a bit off, but from what I remember, it was actually a Zutara illustration. Years ago, I saw this picture- it was either here, or on Deviant Art- of Zuko and Katara in their Southern Raiders ninja outfits, and Zuko had his hand over Katara’s mouth as if he were trying to keep her from being heard by some unseen enemy. It was absolutely beautiful, and I wish I could remember the artist, but maybe someone reading this will remember?
That piece inspired what later became a scene in chapter 12. I won’t go as far as to say I wrote the entire story around that scene- I’m not even sure I’d had that scene completely plotted out  when I began writing this- but I knew very, very early that I wanted that scene in this fic. Ironically, though, it’s not my favorite scene in this story.
My favorite scene in this story happens later in that same chapter. Without spoiling too much, Katara has to heal a very interesting patient, and Zuko finds a new reason to respect her healing ability.
I really like this story. And I know I usually say that on these Throwback Thursday posts, but writing this fic in particular was the culmination of years of exploring why I love this show and this ship. I even remembered why I kind of liked Aang in the beginning (yes, I actually liked him at one point. A little). If I was to declare any of my works a love letter to ATLA, this would be that work.
I hope you enjoy it! It’s a bit long, though, so get some snacks. The link will be in the first reblog. If you like it, please comment and share!

12!!! 16 and 19 for the zk asks 🥰
sim!!! :D thank you for sending these in!!! <333 i’ll message you back soon!
12. what are your steambaby headcanons?
let’s keep it short! :’)
kya and izumi are one year apart; kya was born first, and is a master waterbender (both healing and combative! she insisted on wanting to be exactly like katara because she adores katara that much).
also, katara had an intense cold while pregnant with her—not even zuko sharing his body heat was enough to keep her warm for long 😭
izumi is a non bender, but she masters sword fighting, kyoshi style fighting, chi blocking, etc etc. and while she is a nonbender, she moves fluidly like a waterbender, and her stances are similar to that of a firebender’s.
hmm...i wonder why?
iroh is a firebender. katara had an intense fever while pregnant with him, and zuko just knew. but when he was born, just to make sure, zuko held a ball of tinder underneath iroh’s nose—and...yep. iroh is a firebender. he learns from the dragons the way zuko did, and thrives while doing so.
iroh is two years younger than izumi and three years younger than kya.
(maybe they have one or two more steambabies, but i like to think they have three for now, take a break, and then try for more later on.) (also, as the youngest kid out of three kids, two older siblings is definitely enough, okay? shit. i wouldn’t be able to handle two younger kids bugging me)
also, katara and zuko are really patient with their steambabies; zuko is really relieved that he’s nothing like ozai. he and a therapist helped katara with her abandonment issues so when the steambabies want to leave and travel the world, she’ll be okay with it. :’))
but when the steambabies do leave and travel, they write letters to zuko and katara like crazy :’))) they always say they miss them and that they miss home and stuff like that, and always send zuko and katara lil gifts from wherever they’re visiting from.
so sweet :’)))
i like to think that they would all travel the world together, all three of them. they get on each other’s nerves, yeah, but they love each other. that’s what’s important.
16. do you think zuko and katara feelings for each other in canon or post canon?
yes and yes.
let me explain.
they definitely have feelings for each other in canon, but just didn’t realize it until post-canon.
i mean—zuko lets katara touch his scar. he closes his eyes, and lets her do it. that, in itself, is a big fucking deal, and i never thought of them as just ‘platonic’ after that. watching the crossroads of destiny for the first time—it’s hard to believe that they didn’t end up being canon in the show.
like, here, you have zuko, and zuko is known for pushing people away, and not opening up to others—but he does it with katara.
and here, you have katara, who is known for being compassionate and selfless even to her own detriment, who is yelling at zuko and openly cries when she talks about losing her mother.
here, you have two characters who have been changing since the series began. they’ve been interacting through most of it as enemies, but then, surrounded by glowing crystals—they make a connection, and there’s trust that’s made as a result.
(and then zuko betrays her...but that’s why zk fics starting from cod, where zuko chooses the gang, are always so good.)
imo, it’s completely possible that non platonic feelings could have been formed in the crystal catacombs, and they just didn’t realize it for a long time because there was always so much going on, you know? they had a lot to deal with during canon. not to say they didn’t have a lot to deal with post canon, but you get my point.
i just think they would’ve realized their feelings for each other post canon because they would be able to talk more—especially since katara would have to check on zuko a lot for his lightning wound. imo, in atla, lightning wounds would be rare, because bending lightning is rare (right?...i could be wrong about that tbh), so katara would have to be close to zuko at all times...and would probably have to think about why zuko sacrificing himself for her was so terrifying.
(they definitely liked each other after tsr though. i know that much!!!)
19. what do you think would have happened if atla got a book 4?
listen, sim. listen.
what i would think would have happened is—i think it would’ve been a lot like the comics, seeing as how br*ke created the comics as continuations of atla...like, br*ke would’ve taken over a lot just to make sure that no one would think zutara is a thing.
they would have a lot of m*iko and k*taang moments that they think are cute but are actually toxic, and they would do azula dirty. in fact, they would do a lot of characters dirty (considering the fact that they thought tsr was about aang being the angel on katara’s shoulder...yeah no doubt they would fuck things up for a lot of characters. aang’s development in b3 was...not good. i feel like they would attempt to give mai an episode, but they would butcher it).
they, br*ke, would fuck up b4 phenomenally. of course, they would try to have funny filler episodes, but...it just wouldn’t have worked out with them in charge. i mean, whenever they changed things in the episodes from b3, it wasn’t good at all. they aren’t good at writing as people praise them to be, that’s for damn sure.
what i would want is elizabeth welch (i think that’s her name? she was in charge of all the good episodes like zuko alone and the southern raiders) to be charge of writing atla book four, and man...that shit would be good. it would be golden.
she would handle zutara right, i know she would. 😌😌😌

Whumptober day 29 - Overworked with Zuko and Toph friendship
ao3
Zuko is awoken by something prodding his shoulder sharply, serving to make him aware of the crick in his neck and the way his cheek plastered to a book, and the only thought in his head is oh I must have fallen asleep in the library again.
He sits up, unsticking his face from the legal text and prepares to apologize profusely to the Jeong Jeong, the terrifying librarian who will probably murder Zuko for sleeping on his books, but the person he finds stood beside him is significantly shorter than he expects and he has to blink a couple moments more to make sure he's seeing clearly.
"Toph?"
Toph Beifong, his self appointed best friend, sighs and half rolls her unseeing eyes. "Who the fuck else would it be, Sparky?" Ignoring the question he asks one of his own.
"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" he says somewhat drowsily, rubbing a hand over his face to better wake himself up.
She jabs a thumb over her shoulder. "Your librarian guy told me which table you were at, said you hadn't moved for hours so you’d definitely still be here. He was cool. I dunno why you're so scared of him."
“Be quiet or he'll hear you!” Zuko whispers sharply, glancing behind her like Jeong Jeong might be there and he missed him thanks to his sleepy state. When there is no angry librarian lying in wait, he turns back to Toph who is looking completely nonplussed. “But no, Toph-” Her previous words filter through all at once and he suddenly has very different questions. “Wait, you were looking for me? Is everything okay?"
She sighs and takes a seat in the half removed empty chair beside him after checking its place with a kick and her hand on the back of it, laying her white stick across her lap, as she sits down heavily with a huff. "You'd know if you checked your fucking phone, dumbass. Sokka said he couldn't get hold of you but he couldn't escape class for another couple hours so he sent me to make sure you hadn't killed yourself with studying."
Zuko pulls his silent phone out of his bag and finds Toph is correct. There's about 10 text messages from Sokka ranging from 'look @ this cool cat!!' and 'do u wanna grab drinks w suki& aang ltr??' to 'zuko rememebr to take fcking breaks ok ' as the time without responds went on longer. He looks at the time and sees the last message came in around half an hour ago.
"Shit," he curses, shooting off a quick but sincere apology for accidentally ignoring his boyfriend and telling him Toph is here making him take a break.
"Ah, don't worry about it too much, Captain Boomerang's just worried about you is all. Plus he fucking knows he can't talk with how much of a workaholic he is too." She pauses and leans back in her chair, dropping her doc marten clad feet into his lap unceremoniously.
Toph's expression shifts, and becomes something a little more contemplative for a second before settling on somewhere between bored and mischievous. "You've been hitting the books pretty hard lately, though. I'm even starting to question if you've started some kind of second life here in the library and just not told anyone."
Zuko sighs when he gets back a smiley face and a heart emoticon, relieved Sokka isn't mad at him for ignoring him. He places the phone face down on the table and runs the fingers of both his hands through his hair. "I'm just stressed. I don't want to fail or flunk out or anything."
Toph frowns, soft features turning down as she faces toward the wall somewhere behind Zuko. "Why though? You've been getting pretty good grades right?"
Zuko shrugs, even though he knows she can’t see it. "Yeah, but I can't risk them falling. You remember me telling you about my dad, right?"
She nods in response. "Yep, the asshole who calls you to yell and who me and the guys are plotting to arrange a little accident for one of these days."
He chooses to ignore her implication of plans to murder his father, as much as he appreciates the sentiment behind it, and continue. "Yeah well, he's only paying for my tuition if I'm getting good enough grades. In the subject he chose for me,” he adds bitterly.
"But you don't even care that much about law though, do you? Why are you trying to be the best at it if you’re only doing it cos it’s what he wants?"
"I'm not!" He exclaims, trying to keep his voice low, but not able to keep his frustration contained otherwise. All his exhaustion and stress decides to pour out without his consent, and suddenly he's just talking, one hand clutching the strap of his bag, the other gesturing. "I'm never gonna be the best! I'm just trying to not be completely fucking average cos I don't want him to make me move back closer to home! And if it looks like I'm slacking off, I know he will. I don't care about what I'm studying right now, and I can't spend time thinking about what I actually do want to study that I know would be less soul crushing than this- this bullshit! But at college, I can actually have some freedom. Toph, fuck, I love it here, I love all you guys. I love Sokka. I can't risk losing any of that."
"Oh." Toph says quietly, taken aback it seems by his outburst.
"Yeah," Zuko sighs.
He checks the time again on his phone and estimates he’s been here nearly four hours now, which probably means he should go get something to eat or at least change the location of his studying. He starts closing the books and slotting his own back into his bag while stacking up the library ones, including the one he had woken up on. At least he hadn't drooled on it, Jeong Jeong definitely would have killed him if he had.
"I get it," Toph says when he's almost finished tidying.
"Huh?" he says, looking up at the sound of her voice breaking the quiet that had been settling over them.
"I said, I get it." She sits up, and removes her feet from his lap, and angles herself a little more in his direction to try and face him the way he knows she does when she wants to be serious when talking to people.
"So I didn't know any of you guys until the very end of last year right?"
"Yeah."
"Well I was doing the same thing as you last year."
Zuko frowns, struggling to make the connection Toph clearly had. "But don't your parents disapprove of what you're doing anyway? You told us how you don't talk to them because of it, I'm sure of it."
Toph scoffs. "Well sure, yeah, but that's the reason I have a scholarship. My parents refused to pay for me to go to college this far from home, so I had to find some other way to pay for it. Point is, Sparky, I spent last year stressed out of my mind about my grades dropping low enough that I'd lose my scholarship and have to move back home and they'd have been fucking right." She pauses and Zuko sees her fingers clenching and unclenching around the stick in her hand.
"My parents have very specific ideas of what they think a 'poor little blind girl' is capable of, okay? They're overprotective as shit and it's a pain in the ass. Fuck, it's straight up controlling," her expression morphs a second and she laughs. "Straight lol."
Zuko rolls his eyes, and tries to get their discussion back on track. "Yeah but you're not doing that now. I see you in the library like 3 times a week max."
She darts out to swat him with the back of her hand. "Yeah, dummy, cos I burnt out and realised I needed to set limits for myself this year. I've already gotta work way harder with some of this shit cos I can't see, so sometimes I need to know when to give myself a break.
"I know what it's like to want to escape, Zuko. But you're not gonna be able to enjoy your freedom if you're holed up in the library all day every day. You have friends and a boyfriend who miss you." She pauses to kick him, and his yelp of pain seems to break the more emotional atmosphere that had been forming around them. He talks a second to appreciate how good she is at estimating at least vaguely where he is enough to make contact with her hits. "And I'm sick of putting up with Sokka whining about how much he wishes you were there when we hang out." When she talks next, it's with a put on deeper voice Zuko is guessing is supposed to sound like Sokka. "’Oh, Zuko would love this, Toph’, ‘Zuko should come with us next time’, ‘Zuko's so busy I miss him so much boo hoo’. I can only put up with so much of this mushy shit Sparky!"
Zuko smiles with a mix of amusement at her antics and sadness that he now realises he hasn’t been showing up enough for his boyfriend or their friends. "Okay, thank you for your sacrifice, Toph. Sorry for putting you through that."
She punches him in the shoulder hard enough that he winces and he is again impressed even as his arm throbs. "Yeah well just shape up a fucking bit okay? All work and no play makes Zuko a fucking loser, y’know?"
"I'm pretty sure that's not how that saying goes…" he mumbles to the floor rubbing his arm.
"Don't care. I do biology, not English." With that, she stands from her chair, gripping the back of it to shove it under the study table. "Now c'mon, you can make it up to me with coffee and one of those fancy pastries from Boulder's."
Zuko throws the last few of his belongings into his bag and shoulders it, nudging her elbow with his to offer his arm, which she takes. "Alright, deal. And…" he pauses, mind suddenly stuck thinking about how he went off at her before. "I'm sorry for getting angry at you, Toph, none of what I’m mad about is your fault, I should have-"
Toph waves her hand not holding her stick blandly, cutting him off. "Ah don't worry about it. And anyway," she pauses, and he hears something different in her tone that sets off alarm bells in his brain. "Now I can use the fact that you told me you love Sokka, before you told Sokka that you love Sokka, to my advantage basically forever."
Zuko's eyes widen as he mentally runs back over everything he said and shit he did. Sokka will kill him if he ever finds out. She must feel him tense because she gives him a tug to start them walking as she lets out a cackle far too loud in the quiet space. He tries to hush her as they walk past the desk and Jeong Jeong; Zuko gets a glare, but the man says nothing, leaving Toph totally unaware. Great, he thinks, yet another person totally charmed by Toph's endearing assholery (like he isn’t completely one of the founding members of that particular group).
All he can do is sigh and smile as she keeps chuckling until they're outside, cool, late autumn weather a sharp change to the warmth of the library.
But then Toph's laughs trail off with a sigh as she leans into him and knocks her head against his upper arm with a gentle bump. "Love you too by the way, Sparky."
Zuko smiles, a tiny part of him aware he could probably legitimately tear up at the show of affection from Toph, with her usual steel hard exterior. But she'd probably kick him off the pathway if he did. So, instead he smiles and let's it go with only a knock of their shoulders together, and they keep walking arm in arm towards The Boulder's coffee shop.
