I was upstairs in the shop for one thing, when my eyes were caught by something else: discovering these beautiful Asante / Ashanti Akuaba dolls not only off of a high shelf and easily visible, but also on our 60% off table! What a find! In addition to being beautiful, these dolls are intended to aid in fertility: Ashanti women hoping for offspring carry these 'Akuaba dolls' in their clothes, and treat them like the child they hoped to have. Buona sera Cari,

Quella che vedete ritratta nelle foto è una akuaba, una bambola intagliata nel legno utilizzata dalle donne della tribù africana degli ashanti (in Ghana) per propiziare la fertilità.

La leggenda narra che un giorno una donna Ashanti, distrutta dal dolore di non riuscire ad avere figli, aveva chiesto aiuto al sacerdote della tribù (gli ashanti erano tradizionalmente politeisti). Il sacerdote le aveva risposto di far intagliare una bambola di legno e di portarla sempre con se, come se fosse stata sua figlia. Così la donna fece, e così giunse finalmente la tanto attesa figlia, invitata dalla bambola.

Da allora le donne ashanti portano sempre con sè appesa alla cintura, la bambola akuaba, questo è il sul nome, per assicurarsi una progenie.

Quando sono in stato di gravidanza, la bambola è portata legata sulla schiena, come di solito sono portati i neonati, perchè il nascituro nasca di bell'aspetto.

E dopo il parto, se il nascituro è una bambina, beh la bambola akuaba diverrà il primo gioco della nuova nata. Forse per protezione? Non è dato saperlo ...

MEET BANGU MONTSHO,MISS UNIVERSAL QUEEN 2022 CONTESTENT

Bangu MONTSHO (22) is a young woman who hails from Nswazwi village but grew up in the city of Francistown . She is a student at the University of Botswana who is yet to resume her final year doing business information systems.

Among other things Bangu considers herself a creative at heart as she loves acting , singing, pageantry and all things art.

In an exclusive interview she shares stories about how she got into pageantry ,she shares how her friend insisted she audition with her as she obviously had the qualities of a pageant model . She recalls that day as the day a love for pageantry was kindled in her heart and she never looked back since.

She has since competed in a couple of pageants ,but more notably she was recently chosen to represent Botswana at the Miss Universal Queen pageant 2022 ,which will be held in the Philippines on the 18th of December which focuses on mental health advocacy, a matter which she holds deer and would gladly stand for .

"The People who inspired me to keep going in Pageantry are Abena Akuaba , Uua Murangi ,Zozibini and Nia Imani Franklin "

She goes on to explain how they courageously took to stage , at a time where women of color rarely participated in international pageants , which made an impression on her ,that if they could do it so could she and others as well.

Her last words of encouragement are

"Embrace the journey,it Is more about the journey than the destination, and if there's something that is in your heart that you can't stop thinking about no matter how many times you have been knocked down , if you have that fire !! in you it's there for a reason and that's passion and that's what should drive you "
