If you have cans and bottle to recycle, you can take them to Ma & Pa Redemption Center on Route 14 in Sodus, and donate the money from your returnables to Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven. This is a cause that is near and dear to our hearts because this sanctuary is truly amazing. We have visited here a number of times and the one thing that had stood out to me is how happy and well cared for the animals are. What blows my mind is that these animals, many of whom have been rescued from abusive situations, are some of the friendliest I’ve ever encountered, (and I’ve encountered a lot of animals!) These beautiful creatures have had a rough go at life, and at Cracker Box, they are getting a second chance, perhaps the opportunity to be adopted by people who will truly love and care for them. Your bottle & can donation money goes towards buying feed and supplies for the animals. We dropped our first load of cans and bottles yesterday and just told them to donate our money to Cracker Box Palace. It was as easy as that! I recently saw a post asking whether coyotes are ever seen here. There are coyotes and wild boars here. And alligators. And beautiful Barred owls and Big Horned owls. And hawks and bald eagles. And, a year or two ago, my husband spotted a Florida panther about 15 miles from here, over near Ona. Also, be aware of snakes (some poisonous) that like to hang out in leaf clutter. I'm not trying to scare anyone, I'm just giving a heads-up that we are surrounded by nature and need to stay aware of our surroundings. I miss the days when my son got excited to see a little garner snake; now he just screams. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Sophie Corrigan tackles 38 creatures with bad raps—from snakes to skunks to slugs to spiders—in this informative and entertaining comics-style nonfiction book. It was the perfect book to bring with us on our vacation in the woods. (They did work together to save a spider this morning, so maybe there’s hope.) 🐌 🐍 🐀 🦈 🐊 🦨 In THE NOT BAD ANIMALS (Ages 5-10), each creature gets two pages to make its case to the reader as to why it’s not as bad as many assume. The first page exposes all the myths about that animal (vampire bats get tangled in people’s hair; the only way to ease a jellyfish sting is to pee on it; snakes are slimy; wolves howl at the moon). The next page exposes those myths for what they are—silly nonsense—and showcases the many special and wonderful characteristics instead (centipedes only have 30-40 legs; possums have some of the cleanest fur; sea gulls do a stomping dance to get worms to stick their heads up from the soil; snapping turtles can’t hide in their shell like other turtles so “sorry if that makes me seam a little grouchy sometimes”). Opossum rescue this am, my yoga this morning. “All gods creatures”, my grandmother would say. (Swipe to hear em snoring🥰) Struggling after being hit in the road, I couldn’t leave ‘em. A very nice father walking his 3 year old daughter up the street stopped to help move the creature to the grass. No fight, just grateful to be out of the road and into the grass, laid down. Father and daughter on their way, Opossum makes way in my trunk, Now snoring the whole way, Into a grassy bottom cage. Sleeping, we’ll wait on animal control. Called them when he was in the road, Now we’re committed to handing over. Momma and Daddy were very distressed with my presence... but had to get him out the street!!!...With some soft talking to momma seemed to be able to put her at ease somehow!!...
