Can I just say I love playing as a MC who’s pious to the Ancient Ones! I’m an atheist irl but I love how it’s a source of reassurance and comfort for them. I can imagine them secretly praying in Salt Bay and then being amazed at how people openly worship them in Vinia and Ishari.
Initially my MC’s faith was a reminder of their mother buuuuuut after Everything they redefine their faith to be something personal.
I'm glad you're enjoying the Ancient Ones 😊 It's really nice to see how religion changes for players especially over the course of the story and after finding out about Salyra. Thank you for sharing and for your support!

At the three-noted song, they come.
Or so they say.
Here I sit on my porch in between the lights of day
Waiting
By the edge of the forest
Descending into madness
Seeing shapes in my cigarette smoke, morphing into chaos.
I hope they take the offering I left.
I sit here, playing card games with an Ancient One.
Setting dangerous bets.
The price of madness
In knowing what is Kept.
Despite it all, I swallow Your breath.
Your breath, that is older than bones
Strengthens me with each exchange.
Bewitched by the orchestrated bending of time.
I do not want to live without the flavor of Your tongue.
And so
I sit on my porch waiting.
At the three-noted song, they come.
🍂
There are many times when instrumental music inspires my words. Deathcard Cabin by Jonah Senzel inspired these. A hypnotic tune I find myself of late unable to get out of my head.

The whole scenario with the gods reminds me of the smiling god.
At first they seem welcoming, kind, as if they are there to protect you.
But instead they are there to harm you but you only realize it when its too late.
The gods in the game world are not nearly as divine or 'good' as some of the more devout would claim them to be. Most of the deities have their own opinions and personalities like the regular mortal folk do, so they can be quite cruel depending on how you view them.
With the Ancient Ones, Ehulla and Imteus are the only merciful/helpful deities from the main group. The rest aren't nearly as kind to mortals. Gabus has no care for humans and Atses sees them as lesser beings.
It is important to note that Salyra receives visions from Ehulla - who is merciful but there is an agenda that the deities have which isn't known to mortals so seeing their actions as cruel can be true but there's also quite a bit that isn't known so you're not going to have the full picture 😋

legend tells that Thoth, god of knowledge and magic, played cards with Khonsu, god of the moon, and won 5 extra days worth of moonlight. he gave them to the sky goddess Nut (who was forbidden from giving birth on any day of the then 360-day year), subsequently allowing her to produce Osiris, Isis, Horus, Set, and Nepthys—one on each of the five days
no one knows that Thoth was up to with the whole “leap year” thing. after all, there’s no way Nut could give birth to just 1/4th of a god. unless…..
