No problem, thank you so much Red! I really dont mind longer posts, but does take a bit longer for me to write up my reply in turn.
I was also the same until quite recently! I didnt know it wasnt an alias for a long time! Iirc it might be confirmed in dlc content, and I haven't yet read all of the journals that were added then.
I felt a little weird about that post, as I don't like harshly criticizing what others do in their fics (the only way I might step in is if a fic is written by an openly cis/straight person writing a trans character in an obviously transphobic way and was open to criticism too. I know I'm unfortunately not going to get through to bigots/dont want to waste my time tbh)
I'm not super strongly opionated on it either. I generally hc higgs as trans masc, but Im open to trans fem and other headcanon/interpretations too ( less so of cis higgs, its just not as interesting to me)
With that in mind, higgs would likely not have been named something as masculine as "peter" and in that case would have a different name thats likely his deadname. If we're talking transfem higgs, then "peter" could be considered a deadname for sure.
Higgs and peter both being names/aliases that he readily uses feels more in line with kojimas previous games like mgs, where he does this a bit. A character will have several names that they will go by, depending on the circumstances and time period, but to close loved ones they share a true name with, usually a first name. I usually use Higgs more frequently too, partly to not spoil newcommers to fandom on the suprise twist, if they havent played the game yet. Both feel like equally his name to me. The only uncertainty i have is that he may not in fact use "englert", because it has far more baggage depending on who from his family he got it from.
The majority of fic writers ive seen that use peter englert for higgs are either doing an au where the events that make him higgs haven't/didn't happen yet, or its a post DS au where he is rehabilitated, and using it so the UCA/regular people don't recognize that its him, so that. He can live in relative anonymity then after his crimes, and without the burden of them affecting new connections he might make.
(Personally I havent finished the book yet, but it does makes some strange divergences from the game? Like cutting out entire cutscenes that happen and making higgs really irationally angry all the time? Its very off for a novelization of a modern videogame where major parts of the story are far more acessible than like 60+ year old novels of tv and movies. I'm taking anything it with a heavy grain of salt, and just letting it add to the story if there's something that interests me and doesnt entirely contradict the game)
It’s alright! Honestly I’m in a similar boat to you, generally I prefer to HC Higgs as trans too because it feels quite fitting to me, although I’ll also swing between that and him being cis so yeah the deadnaming thing again depends on how the writer views him, but I wasn’t aware that Kojima sometimes gives characters several names in that manner as well, so thank you for that! It definitely solidifies my interpretation of the usage of his names a bit more, but the redemption fics/AUs that call him Peter make a lot of sense and I quite like those interpretations too.

random little (very long) vent thing lamaoo
my birthday is soon and im like. IDK ive just been incredibly fucked up recently with like. anti trans legislation and general negativity, so ive been trying to keep away from twitter since thats where i see most of it
last year, my mother had me come get my cake with her and to my surprise it said "happy birthday dominic" and i couldve cried, like i was wearing my face mask cuz it helps my dysphoria but holy shit i was smiling so hard
she said dominic when she sang my bday song with my siblings and it made me really happy
she hasnt called me dominic since, and whatever im like. im not really over it but i will say and act like i am because it prevents me from dwelling on unnecessary pain yknow?
i guess recently she's had a change of heart, cuz she told my sibling that she wants to start calling me by dom and that she doesnt want me to hide who i am from her, and i know what she means definitely
ive been very like.. closed off? especially since her bf came back (he fucking sucks i hate him) i just havent spent time with her or anything unless hes gone cuz i definitely dont feel comfortable being myself around him
anyways this is pretty cool all things considered. i have told her before that i knew she wasnt gonna be part of my journey and ive accepted that, and usually i say shit and she just ignores it but maybe she actually heard that and listened
so, dominic is having his 4th bday soon and im happy about that, but like.. we're gonna go do mini golf for my bday which is a surprise! because i mean. if you know me, i dont really like to leave the house, like at all. i guess thats kinda how covid affected me? theres no reason to leave the house anymore so i guess i wont (and i guess it worked cuz i havent gotten it) but it was like. so horrible for my mental health
like i always said "oh, yeah, i dont mind being inside id prefer to not go outside anyways" and thats true but its like. doubled my social anxiety somehow. im normal in public until theres people around me or god forbid interacting with me 💀💀 the way i act when i have to buy my own shit is awful, i get sweaty and i stutter and i shake, i need to take a long breath after it fucking sucks it feels awful. JUST TO LIKE. PUT SOMETHING AT THE CASH REGISTER AND AHVE THEM ASK IF I WANT A REWARDS CARD OR WHATEVER THATS ITTT it sucks
so yeah im surprised i agreed to it, but its glow in the dark minigolf and one thing about me is i love minigolf and i love glow in the dark im gonna have a five nights at freddy moment (which means i gotta wear my shirt like i just gotta) and im sure itll be great fun (pleased about glow in the dark cuz im sure itll be. DARK in there and i dont have to worry so much about people seeing me)
my problem is that im hanging out with my aunt as well and i love my aunt!! everyone on my dads side except for my dad is amazing i love them, but i dont know how she would be yknow? idk if my mom has spilled the tea about it and told her or if theyre gonna just put my deadname on shit this year again like. i dont know
what if it did say dominic? how would my aunt react? its scary to think about, im so scared to LOSE more of my family
i havent even technically lost my moms side, its just that theyre a bunch of racist queerphobic losers and i know if they knew me, they wouldnt want me anymore
yeah im just stressed about it, all this shit is starting to pile up inside of me and i feel like ill explode and jsut say fuck everyone im ME and i dont give a fuck what you think, cuz no, i dont
my immediate family that i live with knows, my grandma knows, thats all that really matters. the only benefits to knowing my great grandparents is they give me money on my birthday, and that might sound hollow or whatever but its true, they fucking suck
just gettin tired of this sht yknow? even now, there is a hostile on the farm!! my moms bf is so homophobic, most likely transphobic too
hes SPECIFICALLY annoying, all the shit i order comes under dominic and hes brought me my things multiple times so he knows, but he'll still say shit like "thats how females are" or "hello girls" and to me its honestly like
its FUNNY because its like the only thing he knows about me is that to him, im a girl SKFJS like genuinely. i dont share anything with him because i fucking hate him, hes the absolute worst. the fact that theyre married and hes my stepdad technically is something i just deny, im never calling that man my dad lol
anyways im thinking about getting a hip binder? i realize thats one of the things im insecure about, is my fat is at my hip and even when i bind it gives me a feminine sort of shape so a hip binder would be great
i realize that i actually dont care so much if im plus size, i just care if my body looks feminine or not
i will absolutely be your fat guy friend with no hesitation okay like that shit? yes im so content for now like that is acceptable, but yknow fat distributes differently so its either baggy ass clothes orr stay inside SKJF
okay im done talking thanks for coming to my ted talk you are safe (for now)

M I N A (demiboy)

Of course she cares about respecting your identity and would respect your preferred pronouns and such
Defienrely flaunt your around to everyone and especially they squad

so i really don’t like bi being used as an umbrella term (i think it’s super invalidating to the other mspec identities) but i mind it slightly less when like organizations use it bc it seems like a more genuine attempt at inclusivity. when individual people use it tho, it really just reads as a way to shove the rest of us into a neat little box, ya know? probably bc most of the individuals i see use it always seem to have this attitude of “well bi is the umbrella term everything else is just extra or a micro label” (DONT even get me started on that. micro labels are great, but don’t call something a micro label that isn’t one) or “all these other labels are unnecessarily but i guess we can include them to make u feel better/bc u won’t let it go”
i have a love hate relationship with the "bi umbrella" tbh. going through bi history and seeing the genuine inclusion and acceptance of all mspec people in the bi community, not because they're "basically bi" or anything like that, but because of our shared experiences as mspec people and the importance of coming together as a community, regardless of what labels we use, endeared me to it a bit.
but then i see people who use it to erase everything it's supposed to include or to claim non-bi mspec people are "basically bi" or all mspec identities are "types of bisexuality" and i'm just like......fuck that y'all can keep that shit lmao.
generally organizations aren't too horrible with it, but some are. bi dot org tweeted about pan celebs and characters being bi and when corrected, they posted a link to their website's bi umbrella page and then blocked everyone. and they posted a bunch of panphobic and transphobic shit on other social media sites.
so it's not always genuine inclusion from organizations. because websites and social media accounts for organizations are run by individuals who can have shitty opinions. (bi net usa, anyone?)
and then you gotta take into account how many of the organizations who use the bi umbrella talk about other mspec identities without it being an addition to bi or bringing up bi, like conversations about and content for non-bi mspec identities on their own.
i feel like instead of saying bi *is* an umbrella term, it should be bi *can be* an umbrella term. because not every non-bi mspec person wants their identity to be categorized under another, or they don't conceptualize their identity that way, and there's nothing wrong with that and it should be respected.
but there are non-bi mspec people who do think of it that way. or who maybe need or want it to be umbrella term. some people might not be able to find resources and community and groups etc. for their identity, so having access to that of the bi community; having it open to them if they so choose is important. and same for non-bi mspec who want to be part of a wider community, who feel it's important to come together and have solidarity.
so it's kind of just a really layered thing. i think the bi umbrella should be option for those who want or need it, but not a universal or required understanding of mspec identities.
(also to any panphobes who wanna start shit: the concept of the bi umbrella was not created recently or by pan people to "force" our way into bi spaces. the bi community has historically been open to all mspec people, and bi orgs carry that on today. take it up with your own community organizers if you don't want nasty "pannies" in your spaces because it ain't my problem.)

Give me 2bs complicated relationship I am starved for content pleas ekm begging y uoi..
BUUDJDJCJ YEAH ..... come off anon im screaming and crying lemon demon voice take off your glasses let me see your eyes
Anyway the first thing you need to know about my 2b is that hes aro second thing is that hes very susceptible to forming relationships with people regardless because hes a helper at heart and everybody latches onto him because theres just ... so little kindness in nevada youll take it even if it comes in the form of a blunt needle and a pair of unimpressed eyes. The third thing you need to know about him is that he synthesises meth in the basement but thats not important.
Anyway before doc worked with hank he worked for the auditor, and before he worked for the auditor he worked for nexus and before that he worked odd jobs around town after taking the transphobic family L and running away from home like a hashtag boyboss (im not glorifying running away from home its just that i genuinely think he would just be like you know what ? Im packing my bags and telling the next random town i come across that im a doctor and they just have to believe me. He was a VERY happy man when the world ended and he could roam the country completely anonymous after the subsequent data wipe). This means that 2b is in the unique position of knowing literally everybody in nevada, even if they dont know... ‘him’. Between the fake names and the baffling chat handle most people settle on calling him doc because thats what they hear other people calling him.
With THAT out of the way, 2BDamned is Very Reliable. You need spare parts ? Doc’ll provide ! You need to get Rid of spare parts ? Sure i know a guy. You got eviscerated ? No problem. Your car exploded ? Got food poisoning ? Alone on a friday night ? Fucking died ? Hes got you covered. He doesnt do it for free though and if you cant pay up ..... well ill put a favour on your tab. I bet the nevadean economy slowed to a veritable crawl for the two months 2b got put out of commission by the auditor (his streak of good luck ended when she found out he was offering his ‘Other Place’ services to people outside the AAHW , what are you ? Some kind of cheap whore ? Im going to tear your face off. Then she was like huh, i wonder why my operations all suddenly suck , guess killing that guy was a bad idea..... i miss him -_-)
Not to worry... hes not dead but he is coming back to bite you in the ass lucky you auditor. Hank found 2b while he was still recovering and was like heyyy youre the guy who helped bring me to life by evanessence when i died doing stupid shit :) i see you have a vendetta aganst the aahw, wanna live together ? And 2b was like .... you know what ? Yeah. And they kinda ... picked a place and settled down. Like imagine two fiercely independent people carving out spaces for each other in their schedules just because they work well together .... thats amore. Like sure hank can live on their own and 2BDamned certainly can handle himself but why resort to that when you can have this instead ? Imagine that; finally resting easy when you know you have someone unequivocally in your corner...
Im a 2bhank advocate because i think doc doesnt actually realise he likes people so he thinks himself antisocial. Hank is actually antisocial but Knows that 2b needs to Hang Out sometimes so they spend as much time as possible with 2b even when hes working and hes like get out -_- and hank is like O_O and 2b is like ... OK stay. Whatever and refuses to admit that this is actually kind of nice. Quality time legend. 2b on the other hand is an acts of service king and shows love by taking care of hank however and he will absolutely haul ass to get to them if theyre in trouble to bail them out of it. The two of them are qpps and are totally whipped for each other but 2b is still like "hank is just a colleague". Theres nobody they trust more in the world than each other, theyve really been though a lot together. Fellas is it gay to reach through spacetime , absolutely shattering the insurmountable wall between life and death in order to drag your homie back to the world of the living ? The answer (yes) may shock you
Now 2b and JEB... oh boy! They knew each other from nexus and jeb genuinely thought he was dead until he blinked awake on an operating table with a familiar face staring back at him. "Welcome back, Jebediah." He hears an even more familiar voice say and jeb blearily mumbles,"Doc?" Turns out he was killed. Double turns out that his old coworker has been conducting all manners of unethical experimentation , not only that but he is the reason why Hank Jmotherfucker Wimbleton has been continually allowed to run free. Jeb is understandably furious. "Do you realise what you've done?" He immediately starts to argue. Doc raises a brow at him,"Do you?"
2b quickly understands that he and jeb are never going to see eye to eye, but hmm he has the potential to be a useful ally and though he is a bit of a bitch, he can trust jeb not to sell him out to the auditor. I like to think that after a particularly passionate night , jeb (hes high) asks 2b if theyre friends and 2b (also high) laughs right in his face. Jeb doesn't laugh along. This sobers the two of them up very quickly and 2b excuses himself in an unsubtle manner. They still see each other sometimes, jeb bleakly trying to pretend hes not at least a little bit in love with doc and 2b strategically sidestepping the issue because he really doesnt want to deal with this. "Dirt, why is this so dramatic?" Youre asking. Because jeb makes everything harder than it has to be and honestly ? He brought this upon himself.
Sorry i dont have much for 2b and sanford and deimos , truth be told i do not ship it because i genuinely think the team dynamic would be way funnier with 2b(53) acting as a pseudo father figure to sanford(32) and unofficial mentor to both him and deimos(27). Also i like to think 2b was friends with sanfords mom (I call her betty but her full name is beatrice solely because i want doc to be the only person in the world to call her that) which is how they met also its cool to meet an older trans person when youre a kid , san definitely has starry eyes for 2b. I like to think that sanford was trained by him to be a field medic so he usually falls into that role when on the job. I also think sanford is hopeless at tech and i say this a lot but 2b was kind of excited to have another tech junkie on the squad (san is terrified of computers , and hank sees computers as a bludgeoning weapon) , until he found out that he and deimos line up to be perfectly incompatible. Its fine though deimos is still a valuable member of the squad and they play among us together.
I DO however think that 2b has some respect for deimos because his tech work is genuinely so incomprehensible sometimes 2b is like wow this looks like dogshit , how is it working so efficiently ? And deimos is like truth be told ? I got no fucking clue <3 They do bully each other quite a bit though i think , sanford is the only person holding the fucking team together hank would have put deimos in a wheelchair within the first month if sanford wasnt there to mitigate but i think hank and dei should still wrestle sometimes just to pass the time. If you want a proper polycombat thing on this just ask me again <3
2b and the auditor have mad history together but it all cumulates to them right now playing league of legends with each other online because theyre the only players worth each others salt. I frequently put them together in tags and it always looks like this
Tumblr media
Wait this one too because its funny
Tumblr media
I like to think that she didnt know it was 2b who'd been cyberbullying her until she caught him in person and immediately recognised him and was like Oh ^_^ this is a pleasant surprise. Im going to take you home and make you cry your pancreas out of your tearducts, boy. And he was like ^_^;; at least take me to dinner first. I hate AudiB so much they live in my head rent free and dont even pay me reparations for the emotional damage theyve caused me. He continually baits her and runs circles around her with his mad strats but when it comes down to a fistfist shes going to feed him his own fucking hands and he knows it
Anyway that was far too long and im sorry if you read all of it KJSDFSDUKH THIS ISNT EVEN GOING INTO THE MAIN TAGS its too controversial yelps

IDK if you want to actually talk about this more, but my sister identifies as a Bi Lesbian, and the way she describes it is that she is attracted to women and nonbinary people. I think saying that bi people HAVE to be attracted to men is off-base and ignores the nonbinary part of "more than one gender" - and as soon as you include nb people it is no longer mutually exclusive. ALSO fuck terfs getting to take an id away from people cause theyre shitty, I respect the people who id as that more 1/3
2/3 Of course Bi and Lesbians are full identities, but if people find a label like Bi Lesbian useful, not as a watering down but as a way to speak their truth, then I think it should be respected. It doesn't have to be a scale - maybe if anything a modifier? And it certainly doesn't make Bi or Lesbian less of an identity than the split attraction model makes Ace less of a thing. IDK I'd just rather be extremely inclusive over saying that an ID is bad. IDK about the Bipoc tho as Im white
3/3 one final aside, is I've seen it described as an easy way to explain that they are into multiple genders but not into men. And I think if its useful and easily understood, a useful shorthand, then let people use it. Fuck anyone (esp terfs) who apply it to other people, but I think we dont have to conflate all the ways people are awful to queer people with an Identity itself being fucked up. Anyway sorry to ramble right back, and I hope you have a nice night and Ill see you in the cr tag lol
Hey there! So, to address your points, I do want to say first of all that I totally find it admirable that, given the option, you’d rather stray towards overly inclusive as opposed to Not Inclusive Enough. I totally agree with that sentiment, and think that you’re absolutely coming at this from a good angle.
The things I find difficult about the “bi lesbian” label kind of come from your second ask mainly. So the thing is, all sexualities can potentially include nonbinary people. “Nonbinary” is not a separate Third Gender Option, it’s an enormous array of different identities. People can be nonbinary but man or woman-aligned, completely agender, all the genders at once, etc. etc. etc.... basically the format that you’re thinking of conforms the nonbinary experience into an all encompassing “third gender” when in fact it’s a broad spectrum of experiences and identities that can be extremely similar or dissimilar.
Because yeah... there are nb lesbians out there. Who are attracted to women, and other nb lesbian/bisexual people who identify with being sapphic or wlw. You’re actually talking to one right now ;) My experience with gender is All Over The Place and I’m not very good at defining it right now, but I definitely identify very strongly as a lesbian who is attracted to women/women-aligned people. Gender Is Lesbian for me personally right now lol
The issue comes when, as you said, you start to use “lesbian” as a modifying term. It’s not a modifier. It’s a full term that exclusively means women who are not attracted to men. I know you bring up the split attraction model here, but I’ve found that that is WAY more useful for asexual identities without getting into some of the sticky areas like this one where IDing as something actually is harmful/doesn’t make sense. I know that the term “exclusive” does bring up some bad associations but in this case, that’s because we have terms for people who experience attraction to Women/NB people who ID as sapphic (basically ur NB lesbians/people comfy with calling themselves NB bisexual women) and for people who identify as being attracted to men and women (and man-aligned etc. etc.)
LIke, see how long those descriptions got once I started including some of the many, MANY different experiences of being nonbinary...? Basically there’s just no single way to define Every Nonbinary Person for Every Single Sexuality since it’s such a broad spectrum of experience, which is why a lot of sexualities might sound pretty binary (like defining lesbian as Woman Who Loves Only Women) but in fact is because there’s no way to include every single nonbinary experience and categorize them into a neat little box, you know?
So from there, you’ve gotta ALSO consider the points I made earlier about how the identity of “bisexual lesbian” also comes across as lesbophobic, biphobic, and transphobic in ways that harm all of those identities instead of bringing them together. Like, obviously your sister is a Valid Human Being, and it feels weird to be saying an identity is NOT valid... but like. Forcing two mutually exclusive identities together (one that explicitly does not include men and one that does) just ends up hurting the people who ID with those identities in the long run, like how I outlined in my other post. Essentially, it takes away from the overall meaning of What It Means To Be A Lesbian and What It Means To Be Bisexual by trying to force the two of them together. They’re different experiences, and that’s something to be celebrated and something to find commonalities over while discussing our differences instead of trying to mash them together, you know? Like there’s a reason why they became defined as separate identities in the first place.
Anyway, this is probably too long but I hope you can see where I’m coming from here. I’m obviously not going to tell your sister How To Identify, but there’s my thoughts some points you might want to consider showing her while she’s figuring out her identity, you know? So yeah, that’s all I’ve got. Hope you have a good day, and get hyped for the CR episode tonight!! <3

THAT BEING SAID, heres my list of criticisms for CP2077 so far because i’m not just blindly praising it. under a readmore for a few spoilers, one major character spoiler so if you’re playing don’t read this until youre finished with act 1
this isnt bringing into the account of the criticisms console players are talking about bc im on PC, but i completely agree with frustrated console players about launch being a mess.
the fact that they cut you being able to take jackie with you to go meet with meredith is really frustrating. i wonder if they lost time and it broke something because it was in the gameplay demo from a while back.
on the same vein, t-bugs ‘death’ was so sudden and fast that i didn’t even register it as her supposedly dying until v brings it up later in the level. i thought she had just gotten hurt and booted from the program. if she’s actually dead i’m going to be incredibly disappointed and its going to be one of my few genuine sour notes on the game.
the romances are laughably inserted and shouldn’t have even been part of marketing in my opinion. from my understanding it looks like they’re all sidequests and there’s only like four of them total anyways. dont bother if your v isnt into one of the two options they have and just pretend youre kissin whoever you want lol
takemuras introduction was amazing but i feel like i missed a dialog somewhere that explained why he ended up getting chased by arasaka so fast after the events of act 1. i know his motivation but am a little confused about whats going on.
in the same vein, some optional dialog choices don’t actually feel optional if you don’t want to feel like you’re missing context for whats going on. i don’t mean this in a lore way, i mean this in a basic narrative way.
i like that v clearly has their own personality that you kinda tweak and manipulate through your own actions, like with geralt in the witcher series. however i completely understand if people were lead to believe they’d be getting COMPLETE FREEDOM and are let down by the reality of V being a slightly less mailable character. as someone who likes witcher and the dragon age and mass effect series i’m okay with my oc having a pre-ordained personality but marketing could easily have misled people to believe otherwise and thats a totally valid complaint.
i love jackie to DEATH and hes one of the most likable videogame characters ever. however i do wonder sometimes if he suffers from ‘bilingual people don’t talk like that’ syndrome. it can get kinda muddy given how translators work in this universe.
in the same vein i think some of the calls for the game being transphobic or misogynist are overblown but i feel like part of it is the game might not be properly relaying that the overly sexual, violent, objectifying advertisements in 2077 is actually part of the lore and not CD trying to be cheeky ala Saints Row. Its a crit on consumerism and how desensitized the populace of the future gets to hatred, violence, and sex that it has to be overblown to the point of ludicracy. it might not translate for someone who hasn’t taken the time to look into the lore or familarize themselves with the vibe of the series before picking up the game. YES it is incredibly gritty and dark, but thats the point. However I think that fact needed to be communicated better because it just won’t be palatable for some people. Its stuff like this that makes me think we really need content warnings ALA fanfic for... all media, really. its a good idea. i could see the ‘fuckable piece of meat’ line being genuinely terrifying for some people and it comes out of nowhere. I like dark media and content but i don’t know if the game properly conveys beforehand that this is a BLEAK. world. BLEAK.
i also think, unfortunately, its clear the team was crunched and ran out of time for a lot of things they wanted to add into the game. i feel like tying gender to v’s voice was the most elegant solution they had considering all of the voicelines in game. not saying it’s the best solution, but i’m glad they did that rather than tie it to body type or genetalia.
that being said i wish you could have a biotic pussy or dick in this game just bc that would be some cool transhumanism. same in general i wish you could replace limbs or eventually get more cyberware options that changed how you look.
I’m glad they’re gonna fix the epilepsy trigger but I’m also surprised and disappointed no one caught that might be a problem earlier on. I wonder what play testing was like.
Also glad the dev team isnt going to be treated like the new vegas team and they’re getting their bonus regardless of the game’s review score. that’s some stupid bullshit but every publisher does that shit unfortunately.
the fact you cant change your makeup, cybernetics, or hair after the start is dumb and i hope they fix that.
the c key being for crouching AND skipping dialogue is inelegant to say the least. you can fix it in settings for skipping dialogue to be ‘hold c’ but it shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place.
ai definitely wasnt finished and it shows. largely in how theres clearly no AI driving and how cops feel half-implimented.
managing stash is CONFUSING. so is the hacking minigame until you get used to it.
it is a LITTLE apparent that you’re going to go into Cutscene Time because characters tell you to sit somewhere specific. However once you’re in those locked scenes the game is still super immersive and beautiful so it’s not too bad.
i don’t understand why youd buy a car when you have one already and a motorcycle but i’ll still probably shop around for funsies
combat definitely feels floaty but ive played bethesda games and nothing can be as bad as those so its fine for me.
i know there’s more but thats what i have so far. I’m having a great time but those are my Thots.

trans harry + drarry au:
☆ harry being deadnamed would literally be the worst pain to ever exist to him but draco would always be there to bitch slap the person who dare speak such a name
☆ harry having to go to madam pomfrey to get testosterone potions
☆ madam pomfrey rolling her eyes at him one day when hes late "mister malfoys mouth is not filled with testosterone, potter"
☆ harry secretly binding during quidditch even though he literally can NOT breathe
☆ hermione looking ready to hex him when she finds out
☆ " 'mione!! i swear im taking it off after!!" "that doesnt matter harry!! its dangerous!! either wear a sports bra or dont play!!"
☆ harry reluctantly wearing a sports bra after his confrontation with hermione
☆ ron finding out when harry unbuttoned his shirt to reveal tattered bras way too small for harry layered onto his chest
☆ ron immediately accepting harry "you've always been more a man than ill ever be, mate"
☆ draco finding out a month after they're dating
☆ he found harrys binder monster (as he affectionately called it) "love, why didnt you tell me sooner? that's it, im getting you a new one. a real one"
☆ draco immediately SPOILING harry. new binders, button-ups, and boxers
☆ "draco you cant just buy me a binder every time i get a stain on one, it's way too much-" "oh hush, what else am i spending my money on?"
☆ snape being the greasy thot he is and purposefully using female pronouns and deadnaming harry in class and in the corridors
☆ which causes ron to start H.P.P.S.; harry potter protection squad
☆ neville, luna, ginny, hermione, pansy, blaise, and ron being proud members of H.P.P.S.
☆ they even got pins just to confuse the hell out of harry
☆ harry not going to class on dysphoric days
☆ mcgonagall understanding when he misses class and allowing hermione to do his homework and take his notes
☆ harry once got told he played quidditch "like a girl" which tore him apart...until ginny stole the beaters bat and hit the quaffle to let it hit them dead in the face
☆ harry finally getting fed up with not knowing what H.P.P.S. was so he pulled them all to the room of requirements and made them fess up
☆ harry just burst into a fit of giggles and thanked them before giggling again
☆ harry let his protection squad stay intact as long as he got a crown with group initials
☆ yes, harry got his crown
☆ harry coming to potions class as an ultimate grump one day
☆ "miss potter you're late-" "yeah and you're transphobic, dont talk to me snivilly"
☆ he didnt even get detention, snape was too taken aback to remember to give it to him
☆ harry forgetting to take off his binder before he slept and waking up so sore he couldnt take it off
☆ "er- 'mione??" "yes harry?" "can you help me take my um, my binder off?"
☆ hermione giving him a twenty minute lecture and fussing at him for sleeping in a binder. she also gave him one of her bras "YOU ARE NOT WEARING IT TODAY, DONT ARGUE HARRY"
☆ harry dragging himself around the castle until draco stops him on the way to dinner. harry just slumps against his chest and sobs "m couldn wear m binder today, 'mione wouldn let me, m slep in it" he had sadly mumbled against dracos chest. draco just squeezed him tight and drummed his fingers against his back "how would you feel about top surgery?"
☆ long story short, draco wanted to pay to get harrys top surgery done by the top wizarding surgeons in the world "it wont even leave a scar, recovery will only take a week"
☆ in conclusion that was harry's favourite christmas present in his fifth year
☆ "GUESS WHOS FLAT, FLAT BEGINS, I AM FLAT, TELL A FRIEND" was all harry sang for a month, and only the muggle borns understood him that month
☆ draco catching harry sobbing in the bathroom one day "thank you- merlin thank you dray, im finally flat, thank you so much"
☆ and harry finally feels so good
☆ until snape finds out. yeah, that's right the slimey bitch ruins harrys pride
☆ "harriet, please stop touching your chest. we know you altered your body because you fail to be a real man, but you're getting a bit egotistical." AND DRACO HAS NEVER BEEN MORE LIVID
☆ he punched snape. but not before delivering the most powerful speech that hogwarts has ever heard, "how dare you. how DARE you. HOW DARE YOU. you are supposed to be a teacher. a role model. someone that students believe in. and yet you have to audacity to call harry by his dead name, misgender him on multiple occasions, and proceed to humiliate him after he has been living the happiest life he has ever lived and you saw that and RUINED IT. you, severus, are a monster. you have no idea the hell that harry has been through for being born in the wrong body. so let me give you one. 41% of transgender individuals attempt suicide at least once in their life times. that is almost half! OH and get this one! 51% of transgender males are part of that. that is MORE than half. for all you know, harry could be part of that percentage. because of people like YOU. insecure, idiotic, racist, homophobic, transphobic, morons. harry had to fight his family for his will to live and you're the only person left in his life that is trying to take that away from him now. you think that just because hes a little different and just because he wasnt born with a completely flat chest or a bulge in his pants that he isnt a man? because if that's all a man is to you then you are full of shit, severus. because harry is more of a man than youll ever be. my father will damn well hear about this. and you will be fired. because you are a greasy, transphobic, nobody. now excuse me, as i escort the entire class out of your useless lesson. nobody will ever need to know how to enhance the effects of amortentia anyway"
☆ yeah snape was fired. and no one dared to mess with harry again
☆ draco declaring one day that one half of the slytherin table was now dedicated to the H.P.P.S.
☆ theodore, astoria, crabbe, goyle, seamus, and dean joined the H.P.P.S not too long after this, missing their friends and finding it funny that draco had now become vice president with ron
☆ harry now spending his summers between the burrow, the granger's, and malfoy manner
☆ basically, ron, draco, and hermione had a contract (yes, hermione wrote it) that was a custody plan with harry. they even got mcgonagall to sign on it
☆ "you are not living in a household that calls you such horrid things" "they just call me a gir-" "AND YOU ARE NOT. HORRID"
☆ honestly any of the three could have had that conversation with harry
☆ harry felt safe at all times now
☆ "dray? mione? ron? thank you"

hey so I agree with a lot of the stuff in your post about the transphobia involved in the origin of the pansexual label, but I just have one question: what are the actual impacts of people with good intentions calling themselves pan? If you don't hate pansexuals and consider them bi, why type up a paragraphs long manifesto on the harms of the origin of the label if it means the same thing in the way that most non transphobic people (your audience) use it? a lot of identities can be used in transphobic ways (like bi and lesbian and anything really) and plenty of valid identities from problematic roots and evolve over time as people use them differently (queer, transsexual). so how is a person with good intentions using a not-perfect label in a way you don't like a threat to the community? if someone is using the label pan transphobically, wouldn't their bigotry exist independently? if pan people do not act in transphobic ways besides using the label pansexual, realistically what is changing if they call themselves bi beyond holier-than-thou aesthetic activism? plus, a blog on the internet isn't going to get everyone to stop identifying as pansexual, especially considering multiple prominent celebrities ID as pan. so why spend all that energy quibbling on semantics because some bi people use a slightly different word when you could be worrying about Literally anything else? just feels like you want to find something to argue about lol. extremely disappointed that I had to break a mutual
im going to respond to each thing you bring up chronologically- im not trying to nitpick or prioritize certain things you say ill just forget things if i go out of order and i dont want to miss something important. ALSO! i will be typing less formally (like keysmashes and shortening words n stuff) in this response than my og post bc its 1am as im starting to type this so im tired but i want to be clear that i am like. taking this seriously and im not like. mocking u in anyway if it could read that way?? i hope not but just in case anyways here it goes!
in terms of actual impact people with good intentions identifying as pan: honestly im not  sure the full scope of the impact this has, so ill only be speaking to what ive personally seen which might not be all. but like... id argue my younger self has good intentionals iding as pan. i wanted to support trans people, even if i didnt understand a lot of the nuance involved. as a result of this, i developed a sense of superiority over other bisexuals and a mentality that bisexuality was a primitive and lesser sexuality. that mentality is harmful, and although im not sure if it affected bisexuals around me (of which there are many most of my friends are bi ajfjfjf) its still a harmful mentality and can easily hurt people even if i specifically didnt. also using it even with good intentions, which i know many people have, still spreads and further normalizes a label that imo can not be separated from its transphobic origins. this effect is not as extreme as other forms of transphobia and biphobia by A LONG SHOT. the bi community faces a lot of other issues but that doesnt mean this one isnt worth addressing if that makes sense?
if i dont hate pansexuals: ik this is part of a larger point which i will adress but i specified this in my post bc i see a lot of other posts that are negative towards pansexuality have "i hate pan ppl" somewhere in it or a close equivalent. i do not shame these ppl for their anger, i just wanted to be clear i think a lot of pan ppl are bi ppl with good intentions choosing a label they dont fully understand based on a misunderstanding of bisexuality.
why write a paragraphs long manifesto on the harms of pansexuals origin: ok 😭😭 the real reason here is that im literally just bad at summarizing. like thats literally it. i also like talking, its a bad combination. plus ive been thinking abt this for like. over a year im not even kidding and just like i have a lot of thoughts and figured if i was going to bother making my own post instead of rbing someone elses that i might as well get everything i wanted to say off my chest. ALSO BTW i literally got an ask like a week ago that was several paragraphs long asking me to explain my thoughts on why pan was harmful and some other stuff so like. this is partially responding to that and partially just me wanting to air my grievances ? idk if thats the right expression 😔😔
why write the post if my audience of people who identify as pan arent doing it in a transphobic way ? again sorry i didnt really understand the phrasing so i hope this is a vaguely correct summary!! um but like... again imo i think pan cant be separated from its transphobia and like. again imo iding as pan is like. a transphobic action/choice? obviously one transphobic thing does mean someone necessarily is like officially a Transphobe (it CAN be depending on the action but i dont think that applies here) but that doesnt mean there arent problems with what they did. this is like very complicated, but like. someone doing something harmful without the knowlege that its harmful doesnt make that person a bigot by any means it just means they didnt know. and i feel thats the case here? a lot of ppl (myself included until recently) know next to nothing abt pansexualitys origins so a trans inclusve sexuality might seem like a safe and good bet just because they dont know too much abt it, and like? i cant hate those people cause that was me for 5+ years and djgjfjdj you just dont know what you dont know!
basically i think iding with a transphobic label is inherently a singular transphobic action that doesnt make the person transphobic by itself, but is still a transphobic instance.
a lot of identities can be used in transphobic ways like bi, lesbian, etc.: this is true and a point i attempted to make on my original post, but i might not have clear enough. my issue with pan is specifically that it is a transphobic response to a preexisting identity. lesbian isnt an attempted trans inclusive indentity that replaced an identity that already existed (which have many trans ppl identifying with the og label). transphobes can use whatever labels they want, but transphobes using a label vs a label having a transphobic origin is very different. bigots use inclusive and supporting language for their bigotry all the time but language that originated with that bigotry is worse.
many valid identities stem from problemstic origins (like transsexual and queer) but the words evolve: ok my paraphrasing is a little weird there. anyways. the thing here is that. those are slurs. reclaimed slurs that can be empowering to many people, yes, but slurs nonetheless. reclaiming a slur is taking a harmful word and wearing it as a badge of pride. first off, pansexual is not a slur (ur not implying that in anyway just. saying) and it isnt being reclaimed when people dont treat it as having harmful origins. transsexual is the way some people identify but ppl acknowlege its a slur and originates from transphobia. ppl love to act like queer isnt a slur, which is an issue in and of itself, but just. factually it has historically and is currently being used against ppl with the intent to hurt them. pansexual isnt on the same level as these and other words like the f slur, d slur, etc. pansexual originates from trans and biphobia WITHIN the community and not outside of it, and most pansexuals dont see themselves as reclaiming the title because they dont think anythings wrong with it in the first place. and reclaiming it just seems unnecessary considering its history? theres no empowerment from using pan as a label as opposed to queer or transsexual, and it just divides the bisexual community for no reason.
how is a person using a not-perfect label a threat to the community? ok i dont think its a threat but still an issue if that difference makes sense? id like to reiterate a few things ive said before, but for me personally, it made me look down on bisexuals and see them as lesser, and it made people around me see pan as the "trans inclusive" sexuality as opposed to bisexuality, and basically its usage just leads to further biphobia. is this the worst of biphobia? no!!! but its still biphobia and why not attempt to target and minimize that? i have no way to singlehandedly stop biphobia, but my post might get through to my friends who id as pan and that small thing is better than nothing.
if someone used the pan label in a transphobic way, wouldnt that bigotry be different from people using it not transphobically?: someone claiming all bi ppl are transphobic and only pan is the acceptable label is obviously a lot worse than someone iding as pan and saying bi/pan solidarity but again, the second isnt not an issue because the first one is a bigger issue, its just a smaller issue in comparison. i wouldnt say the bigotry is different, one is just worse than the other, but it still has the same problems.
if pan people dont do anything transphobic other than id as pan then what changes with iding as bi over pan other holier-than-thou activism: its just one less person using a transphobic label? which isnt that big but it might lead to their friends stopping iding as pan and cause fewer people around them to see bi as a transphobic identity. which is small scale stuff, i wont try to blow it out of proportion, but thats still a step in the right direction and hopefully more people follow with it. its not terribly huge or lifechanging but something small that may only affect the people close to you is still something rather than nothing.
a blog the internet isnt going to get people to stop iding as pan: oh absolutely not. honestly i expected to get unfollowed/blocked more than change peoples minds regarding the pan label (im surprised i only lost two followers so far honestly) but again, someone literally asked me to do this and i wanted to be clear on my stance on the label, since in the past ive been supportive of it. im not expecting the post to get more than five likes, its more directed to my followers rather than the internet as a whole. im not expecting a large impact, im hoping to change the minds of my followers and friends who id as and support the pan label. thats it. if something bigger comes from it- great! but thats not what im aiming to do.
prev point + many prominent celebrities id as pan: the first name that comes to mind is someone im not a fan of for separate reasons but thats irrelevant. i mean im repeating myself a bit but some celebrities in the past validated and made me feel excited abt my identity as a pan person when they came out, and it justified the label to me, even when i had doubts. i have never interacted with a celebrity and do not plan to change their minds abt their identity. again, my post was for my friends and followers and maybe who ever was scrolling through the biphobia tag and decided to read my post.
why spend that much energy worrying abt the pan label instead of something else: ive spent waaaaay more energy thinking abt a singular meme i didnt like regarding my favourite rwby character so like. maybe i just overreact to things lol. maybe i have a lot of energy and since i cant talk my friends ears off abt my favourite fruits or the different voting methods i learned in my math class or what would dreams taste like, then i gotta put my energy into something. idk. i have a lot of energy and honestly? this didnt take that much. but i felt it weighing on me as my friends talked positively abt the pan label, when i felt guilty for the superiority i felt over my bi friends INCLUDING my best friend and favourite person in the world so like. i spent enough energy worrying abt it, and like. in hindsight since its been over 12 hours since posting it, im thinking abt it less. i was more worried abt feeling dishonest with my friends than actually worrying abt pansexuality, but i figured i owed them an explanation for why my feelings around it had changed.
just feels like you want to find something to argue about: okay i DO love arguing but im not pulling this out of my ass for fun. its in response to posts ive seen on my dash, asks i recieved abt pansexuality, and my way of letting people know my views have changed and why since i know at least some people are curious.
i am sorry to lose a mutual as well, and i genuinely hope things go well for you, but uh yeah thats that.
again, if people have further questions im willing to answer them i just might take a while bc i have school and other stuff 2 do but uhhh yea sorry if im clogging ur dash sjfjfkkf

Please take time to self care for yourself first so you can be an adult that can have a calm conversation [7:50 PM] Xzfgiiimtsath: and you also fantasize about r*ping animals so again: 0 hope for you to have any concept of why things are wrong [7:50 PM] Xzfgiiimtsath: total fucking human garbage [7:50 PM] Xzfgiiimtsath: [8:05 PM] Ill: I am going to go step away before I address this further, I am losing some patience very quickly. I am kindly asking you to do the same so that you may take time to care for yourself during this clearly highly emotional state you are in. Maybe sip some cool water, dab your cheeks with ice, and/or take a moment with a loved one that makes you feel safe. I do not know what else to recommend here, I do not assume ignorance right away when meeting people, and I would like to think that other people can also step back to rationalize themselves down from tensions like these. I call this being an adult, growing up enough to get beyond yelling and throwing every accusation at someone simply because you’re angry. Accepting that it could be possible there is a grave misunderstanding, or maybe even misinterpretation of intent/meaning. As a person that never gets these opportunities to rationalize issues away from pure misunderstood hatred, I have never seen the actual outcome. In the adult world here, if we are angry with someone that offended us, we can’t just go into their family bbq and be screaming like lunatics about how their goat fuckers based solely on our interpretations, either. That would lead to calling the police... it doesn’t get you anywhere ... not in the adult world. You need to stop and care for yourself before you come guns blazing. You don’t DO this in the adult world and then call the adults staring at you like a tantruming toddler “children” because they won’t feed your anger. I’m sorry, for whatever it is you feel WE did to you specifically. You came here, though and whatever your assumptions are, I understand that there is no arguing with you or reasoning with you beyond you are the victim of some unproven atrocity.

Anon who requested I not post your ask but answer you with an emoji, here is your emoji lols 🍆
Oh boy, did I have to sift through that blog.
They’ve posted more in the month of July than they have for every other month of 2019 combined. Their posts in July are pretty much all exclusively about Shonmila PR. They are pushing an ‘industry insider’ angle to expose the PR, but did nothing of the kind back for Shon’s PR with Hailey. Why? Well probably because Shonmila BLEW UP IN THEIR FACE IMMEDIATELY and they had to roll out damage-control.
They’re reinforcing the Ewmila narrative and they support Ew. Wait, didn’t we point out this trend before? And didn’t we smell this trend coming from a mile away, like right at the very beginning of Señorita getting released? In fact, didn’t we just recently theorize that Shon’s team may have struck up a deal to take over the contract with Ew for the remaining 6 months of what we originally assumed to be a 2yr contract between Camila and Ew? This blog’s current brand of ‘exposing Shonmila as PR’ combined with their utter willingness to push the narrative that Ewmila was real is just another red flag for contradictory astro behavior - you can’t do ‘exposing’ posts about how PR photo ops are conducted in relation to Shonmila and then turn a complete blind eye to how it was the same with Ewmila. You ain’t slick.
(Aside: even if this person was 100% legit and I knew them IRL to be totally legit, I would still think they’re an idiot because they publicly support Ew, who we have proven time and time again to be a fraudulent fuckwit of a misogynystic scam artist who is undeserving of anyone’s time and attention let alone their money. Y’all know I have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to Ew and that includes his fans and apologists, which by extension includes Shon’s astros/street teamers who are pushing Ew, and all the astro/street team Camilizers who pushed Ew in the past too)
And the real kicker: this blog is strictly staying out of any speculation on Shon’s sexuality - playing the “it’s none of our business” card. Sorry, it’s more like “none of our business... unless it might be about straight rumors” because they will legitimately entertain anon asks from people claiming that their female friend had sex with Shon - LMFAO I CAN’T 🤣
So in conclusion
This astro blog is trying to do damage control to protect Shon’s professional straight-boy image. They’re not too precious about shitting on literally everyone else to do it, including Camila and EVEN Shon’s male friends (let’s be real, Shon’s male friends are part of his gay posse - his team would love to put across that his friends are shitty straight fuckbois and that’s exactly what they’re trying to put across. Well OOPS Shon’s friends are gay). This blog will seriously shit on everyone except for Ew, which is just... I can’t- I just can’t. But as pointed out before, this all falls in line with management-backed PR narratives that they’ve been trying to push since the beginning of time:
reinforce fake leaked texts problematic Camila-narrative? Check
reinforce Camila vs OT4 fake feud narrative? Check
reinforce Straightmila by reinforcing Ewmila narrative? Check
promote and support Ew? This honestly comes across as such an unnecessary angle but is probably required of them as part of the continued contract with Ew, and by doing so it also lends to the (flimsy AF) Straightmila narrative, so check
reinforce Straight Shon narrative? Check - although they do it through omission. They don’t entertain speculation about his sexuality that is unless it’s ‘hot inside goss from anons who have female friends who say they had wild sex with Shon’ ROFL sure Jan.
Sidenote: This blog is answering a lot of asks, but cross-referencing it against other metrics I would look at for how actively they’re being engaged with by followers, I’d say the number of asks they answer is disproportionate to other forms of follower engagement. Especially how many of those asks are “my dad’s podiatrist’s third cousin was at that hotel/works for Shon’s brand endorsement and they told me this goss” so am I saying that this blog is probably sending themselves asks to answer? Yes. Yes I am.
To a casual reader, this blog is mildly entertaining if you’re looking for slightly petty drama (which some people are attracted to) but honestly why subscribe to that? EL told us to stay away from accounts pushing fandom drama because playing into it is what management wants. And honestly, this is a known tactic:
Tumblr media
And I’m not just saying that because of this astro’s angle of trying to protect Shon, prop up Ew, and take potshots at Camila - but also within our own CS fandom spaces, when people try to push comments protecting Camila but taking potshots at Shon, it’s really the same kinda deal. And I have no doubt in my mind that the anons submitting asks to CS blogs going “Shon is <insert insulting derogatory shit> because he’s a racist transphobe” are astros, and it’s the same angle as this astro Shon blog reinforcing the “problematic Camila” fake leaked texts narrative.
No doubt, the person posting to this blog may very well be connected to the industry, but not in any way that benefits those of us who refuse to pay entry to the circus. They’re still pushing narratives, even if they choose to do it by calling out Shonmila as PR. It’s sleight of hand tricks - distract you by calling out the fact that Shonmila is PR (as if we don’t have eyes and brains to know that without having to be told by an ‘industry insider’ FUCKING LOLS) whilst they pull out the same tired old bullshit narratives out of their ass. ‘Exposing’ Camilizer and OT4 blogs used this tactic back in 2016/2017 too. Mix a spoonful of truth (”Yes, Camren WAS real”) in with the rest of the lies (”but they hate each other ever since Camila stabbed the rest of the girls in the back”). A spoonful of sugar helps the bullshit go down.
“STOP doing their game! Management just reaches their goals because you are so manipulatible. They use your immaturity and favouritism "against" you. Do not give Laurenizers, Camilizers, any nizer and fake OT4 stans the attention they've been seeking (DONT try to clap back, just report and block them straight forward)! They don't like 5H, they don't want the group's happiness nor their faves' happiness, they're seeking their own (hint: some of them exist to this only purpose, intentionaly...). They will try to disturb the peace in the fandom, don't give them what they want, please!” - EL, 8 Dec 2016
Don’t pay attention to blogs that haphazardly reinforce fake narratives that we’ve already debunked time and time again. This is honestly their PR’s biggest downfall. They keep on insisting on trying to push the fake narratives of the past, and with the internet making everything just that little bit more permanent to look up (if we’ve documented it) it’s just so much easier to blow their house of cards over each and every time.
CS have seen it all. Moving along now

@worrywonderwander made this post about me because i said wish you were gay wasnt homophobic. im not sure why she blocked me when our conversation was fairly civil. shes downplaying my opinion and credibility by talking about my age when i am an honest to god adult. now to the content of the post:
the only thing i can concede to wywg being guilty of is queerbaiting. the offensiveness of the song is still unseen by me and a majority of lgbt people regardless of your personal issues with it. with that being said, intention is a huge factor. she had no malicious intent and furthermore went on to apologize if anyone thought she did. even if the song was distasteful, which it wasnt, it cant be homophobic or prejudiced if the intentions were pure
if i stan her so hard that im going to defend a straight teenage girl? im not sure what her age or sexuality have to do with my defending her. i understand the power dynamic between cisgender and heterosexual people versus the lgbt community is unbalanced, but creating a divide the way that you do is unhealthy. if i support someone i dont care who they’re attracted to or how old they are. i also am defending her song more than her herself. i believe that it doesnt deserves the slander it gets and i stand up for what i believe.
again im not following her blindly, its not even about her, but more about the principle of the song being labelled as something its not. similarly, ive found that often people will brand something as homophobic, transphobic, etc when it objectively isnt just because its not up to your standards of inclusivity (not you specifically, people in general).
yes i agree and i said earlier that artists are not responsible for how people interpret their art, but the fact is that a majority of people found the song overall unproblematic. becuase art is subjective someone can take something harmless and make it into a huge deal or even do the opposite and downplay an objectively offensive piece of media. its all open to interpretation so im not sure what you were trying to say there.
in regards to billie profitting off of assumptions about a song topic, you can say that about any subject. khalid has a song called “talk” you wouldnt say that he’s unfairly profitting because some people may assume he’s singing not talking. i understand that people are a little more sensitive when it involves the lgbt community which is understandable but not 100% fair in my opinion. its 2019 and a majority of people are accepting of the lgbt community. we aren’t victims anymore.
i think the issue is that some people are taking the song too seriously. shes not wishing upon a star that the subject of the song wakes up gay one day, but rather that he doesnt like her and since the alternative would be that there is something wrong with HER, she would rather he not be attracted to girls. if i sang that song about a guy i would call it “wish you were straight” because that would mean that it wasnt my flaws he wasn’t attracted to, it was my gender. also, she isnt wishing the gay experience on him, so to speak.
you mentioned that her stance is selfish and thats precisely the point. in the song itself she calls herself selfish. again i will fight for something i believe in. if i thought she was genuinely immature and selfish i would admit it. i strongly find it important to understand the gray areas since Nothing is black and white.
just as you are able to criticize billie i am just as able to explain my differing opinions. she is by no means perfect but this is not the reasons for her imperfections.
the next part is about me so let me simply explain why i compared the community aliens. you said that straight people should not even reference gay people which is ridiculous and creates sn unecessary divide between gay and straight people. i am fully aware of the history of lgbt people between stonewall, the aids epidemic and even trans people dating back centuries. i understand your caution when it comes to people referencing the community, but so much has changed in the past 50 years, hell the past 5 years. its unfair and unrealistic to police their language in regards to us. with the exception of slurs of course, there is no need to dictate the vocabulary when straight people reference the community. the world is a lot more progressive than it used to be.
i dont know if you’ll be notified for this or even see this; i have never blocked anyone so i dont know how it works. but i would love to have an open mature discussion if you want to unblock me and message me.

It really sucks when you find out someone you thought was a friend (or at least a good acquaintance) is actually a pretty trashy person.
Okay, let me build up the backstory. Almost seven years ago, I created a niche political page. I tended it alone for about a year before enlisting the help of a second admin. In comes this guy we'll call Richard. Richard and I got along decently. We shared a lot of thoughts and identities. I thought he helped me with the page considerably. He helped tend the page with me for about two years or so. We chatted a lot, and I really liked him. Then things start getting weird between us. Richard seems to start getting weird. There's stuff going on in his life, divorce and whatnot. I get a notice that the page we had was scheduled to be deleted within seven days. I loved my page; I certainly didn't schedule it for deletion. I ask Richard, who swears he didn't and blames his ex-husband, whom he insists must have hacked his account. I don't know who to believe, although I am certainly more suspicious of Richard than of his ex. I remove the deletion schedule, and bump Richard's page access down—basically, I took away his power and control over my page. Things are okay, kind of. The stuff Richard posts to the page is half decent and half questionable. Then he posts a swastika picture, a meme comparison of some current figure to a past Nazi figure with a swastika flag in the background. I wasn't aware of the post at the time; I was busy with school. I only heard of it when my stalker elsewhere online started circulating news of that post (my stalker watches every one of my online pages and presences) and calling me antisemitic—because of something I didn't post and wasn't even aware was posted! I immediately track down that post and remove it, and talk to Richard about it. He claims innocence and dodges the matter. I don't remember what else went on between us, but I certainly remember him being vague and dodgy about it, even after I told him what a shitty thing that was, and told him to at least consider the image that post projects. He didn't care.
(edit: looking back at my messages to him and finding a host of other problems that happened at once. I wanted to address them but he just ignored me. Transphobia, the swastika post, and he'd made some crude sexual posts, as well.)
Now, I don't remember the exact timeline of events, but this was coming to a head about two years ago, when I was coming out of my transphobia. Richard had made a few transphobic posts on the page over its lifetime, which I didn't protest then. But then I started to see its shittiness and started deleting it all. I tried to open a discussion about it with him, like, “hey, what's up with this stuff?” kind of thing. Richard ignored me. A little later, I removed him from the page completely, which he didn't protest or maybe even notice. Richard was no longer an admin, but I spent the next few months cleaning up his messes and remaking the tone of the page. I tried to track down his old crappy posts and delete them. I know there must be many more, but they're buried beyond reach. I made it clear on the page that we are no longer to be transphobic, and that we are to be welcoming instead of mocking. I ran solo for a long time, afraid to enlist another admin and another Richard.
A few years ago, before anything went sour, Richard decided we should have a group counterpart, which he created and added me as an admin. I was hardly active with it, though, more focused on the page part. I was last in the group three years ago—my last post. The group fell inactive and I stopped caring about it, especially when I started seeing what a richard Richard was.
Recently, this group came back to the fore when one of the other people Richard enlisted as an admin came back and started poking around. He took issue with what I had posted three years ago, and flew into all these weird accusations about it. He questioned my integrity and my identity, and said I shouldn't be an admin there. He especially didn't like when I told him I was transgender (he said something derogatory about me being a woman or something, so I countered). I private messaged Richard, and said, “What's going on with the group (i.e., this asshole)?” He replied that he'll handle it. I wish I took record of exactly what was said in the group by the other guy, but that wasn't on my mind. I'll finish this off with the transcript of our messages.
>me
>>him
 >Okay, what's going on with the group?
 >>I have no idea. [he] messaged me about your post im reading it now. But i dont particularly see anything controversial
 >It's so old xD I don't get the sudden action and the “I don't think you should be an admin”
 >>Think he just wants my attention...:P
Ill tend to him
I didnt know your not a woman
 >I'm female, but I don't identify as a woman.
 >>K well.. he says and I agree thats [accusation]
 >No, it isn't.
 >>And I was having such a pleasent day... haha
Drama queening over a dead group
 >Did
Did you just ban me?
 >>No y
 >I think [the other guy] removed me.
I can't access or even FIND the group.
 >>Dont worry about it. Were chatting ill take care of u in a min
And dont talk to him... shes just in a mood. This a mans job
 >? [I have no idea which of those was intended for me]
 >>Sigh... just let the men talk thats all you gotta do. RN
 >Uh, okay then, I'll let the penises talk.
 >>Lol
>> […]
>>Ok weve decided to reinvent the group and its gonna be male exclusive
 >Why??
 >>Because its a dead group anyway and if we reinvent it we can just say its been here for years. Also engage gay men in intellectual discussion and dialouge
Which isnt something woman are not typically interested in anyway
 >Only cismen are interested in intellectual discussion? Wow, seriously dude?
 >>Yeah actually. Its true. But ill let you know if theres something interesting going on in it :)
 >No, it actually isn't, and I didn't have you pegged as a sexist turd. Don't bother. I'm not interested in whatever Grindr knockoff you're going to turn the group into.
I can't believe you're doing this. We used to be a team. You wouldn't even have had the platform without me and the page, and you're just going to turn around and betray me like this?
 >>Its a dead group hun. Buisness comes first... also didnt need page platform for anything. Actually thats what killed it imo
Also no its not grinder. Its for intellectual dialouge and discussion.
We smoke cigars and drink brandy like men. And its a beaitiful thing
And that's that. Richard is gone. I feel betrayed, but I don't know what I'm entitled to feel when I wasn't that close with him for the last few years anyway. He was married to a man and for all intents and purposes, he bills himself as gay, but he recently had a very strong and public relationship with a woman and got close to her son. Apparently that relationship is no more, and he still calls himself gay. Meanwhile, his page is full of questionable things. I haven't been keeping track of him, but he had recently started cropping up on my feed again. One of his posts said something to the effect of “the country went to crap when we gave women and minorities the vote” and it's just like WOW ARE YOU KIDDING ME. How was I EVER friends with this dude??

We Don't Go Back #76: The League of Gentlemen (1999-2017)
When
The League of Gentlemen
was first broadcast, I didn't own a TV, and by the time I owned one, I was living with my Beloved, who didn't have any interest in seeing it. Nonetheless, I could tell you a not insignificant amount about the major characters, and reel off catchphrases. I could tell you what it was like. People cared about it. Partly this was because several of my friends adored it, and it entered the referential lexicon of our conversation. But partly it seemed to be present, part of the furniture of our pop culture.
For example, I remember that at the time the university LGB society (the T or the Q were not yet added, which is related to a point I'll pick up later) used pictures of prominent gay and lesbian people on posters for an anti-homophobia campaign and one of them was Mark Gatiss, and I recognised him as the chap from
The League of Gentlemen
. It's fair to say that
The League of Gentlemen
fell firmly into the category of things I'd never seen but which I could take part in a conversation about without getting completely lost.
I never got round to watching
The League of Gentlemen
.
But now this project is Serious Business, there are some things I can't really get away with leaving out. So I committed myself to watching it. A good friend expressed concern that it might be too late for me to do that. I sort of half understood what he was getting at, but only really got what he was about having worked through it.
The usual caveats about how writing about comedy are the antithesis of funny apply here, by the way (I still think my funniest article was the one about
Planet of the Apes
, but I digress).
Honest town signs.
The League of Gentlemen
are Reese Shearsmith, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Jeremy Dyson. All four of them write; Gatiss, Pemberton and Shearsmith appear in front of the camera and divide the vast majority of characters, men and women, between them.
It's set in and around the fictional village of Royston Vasey ("You'll never leave!"), in the North of England, where everyone is a grotesque. It's sort of but not entirely sketch comedy.
Some characters appear in most of the episodes: Pauline (Pemberton), who runs a job start course, loves pens and despises the unemployed; Mike (Pemberton), Barry (Gatiss) and their spectacularly messed up mate Geoff (Shearsmith); disappointed musician Les McQueen (Gatiss); Mr Chinnery the vet (Gatiss again), who kills every animal he touches; Hilary Briss the butcher (also Gatiss) who puts something terrible and evil in his delicious sausages; and perhaps the most iconic characters in the show, Edward and Tubbs (Shearsmith and Pemberton), a pair of debased, depraved yokels who run a Local Shop for Local People and who visit unspeakable fates on anyone who comes who isn't Local.
What's all this SHOUTING?
But unlike many sketch shows, the recurring characters' stories progress from episode to episode. So for example, the fate of innocent Benjamin (Shearsmith) at the hands of his finicky aunt Val (Gatiss) and monstrous uncle Harvey (Pemberton) develops and escalates as he realises he might never be able to leave, and begins to formulate a plan of escape. Pauline finds her nemesis in one of her course attendees. Mr Briss's Special Stuff creates an epidemic of nosebleeds.
Many characters appear in no more than a handful of episodes at most, and become the focus of the episodes they're in. The Legz Akimbo theatre company (slogan: "put yourself in a child!") come to visit the local school but their internal tensions destroy the group. A guide leads a party of tourists through the Royston Vasey caves, while replaying a terrible tragedy for which he blames himself. A farmer keeps a man who slept with his wife as a scarecrow in his field. Kenny Harris (Gatiss), owner of the Dog Cinema, engages in a cutthroat business struggle with a rival who's more into cat films.
And then there's Papa Lazarou.
HELLO, DAVE!
Papa Lazarou (Shearsmith) is the single most nightmarish creation of the League of Gentlemen, and along with Tubbs and Edward, is most representative of the show's folk horror elements. He's the owner of the Pandemonium Carnival, which comes to town early in series 2. Papa Lazarou is a nightmare in human form, his scabrous face caked in black-and-white minstrel makeup. He forces his way into people's houses, insisting on calling them "Dave", and intimidating them through an almost supernatural power of domination into giving him their wedding ring, wherein he spirits them away as his slaves, with the phrase, "You're my wife now."
He is genuinely terrifying, and I wonder how that first episode he's in would play if it didn't have a laugh track (only the first two seasons have laugh tracks). And of course he's one of the two places where people most take offence at
The League of Gentlemen.
The most usual objection to Papa Lazarou is that he's in minstrel blackface. But while minstrel makeup is a blot on our culture, it is, it's obvious from the way that Papa Lazarou is framed is that he's supposed to be horrific because he's precisely the sort of person who wears blackface and always wears it.
In his second appearance (the final episode of series 3) there's an insane visual gag revolving around him disguising himself as relatively normal by painting a pale skin tone
over
his blackface makeup, which I found hilarious. But it's also a bit of a problem for a lot of viewers, evidently, because I've read at least two pieces online that interpret the scene as meaning that he's naturally minstrel-toned, which is... Well, I don't know. I'm starting to doubt my own reading a bit, but part of Papa Lazarou's grotesquerie is that you can see how the black and white paint is caked on his face in closeup, and I'm sort of inclined to go with my original reading, partly because it's much less hard to swallow, and mostly because it's a lot funnier.
The League of Gentlemen
is part of a tradition of British comedy and horror alike that deals with grotesque figres: in a show with Geoff, Mr Briss, Pauline, Harvey and, oh God, Edward and Tubbs, Papa Lazarou is just one more of a parade of freaks and monsters. And he is scary, really scary. The episode where Papa Lazarou and his Pandemonium Carnival comes to town (season 2, episode 1) is the point where I moved from a state of "that bit was pretty good" ambivalence to understanding why people consider
The League of Gentlemen
to be an undisputed classic of British TV comedy. Whatever the framing of Papa Lazarou and his freakshow (and notwithstanding the arguments about whether anyone should be making gags about blackface at all, the politics of freakshows is a subject I am simply not equipped to get into), that whole episode is a delirious comic horror and I have seen little to match it.
I can't go to Dorothy Perkins.
The other point where
The League of Gentlemen
gets some flak is in the figure of Babs the transgender cabbie. And the joke with Babs is partly that she's butch and hairy, so that she looks like a bloke in drag (specifically that she resembles the other women characters on the show, only more so), and partly that she's excessively forthcoming about the mechanical details of her transition with her clients. It's complicated by the fact that most of the people of Royston Vasey like her and are supportive of her. No one on the show is ever an open bigot about Babs. She's never deadnamed, for instance. And she's essentially one of the most sympathetic characters in the show. But nonetheless she embodies most of the most enduring transphobic stereotypes, simply by being so grotesque (so much so that we never see her face).
And back in 1999, as I mentioned in passing, we still talked about LGB issues and a lot of us hadn't added the T yet. And it's not as if trans people hadn't been there all along, but trans rights are in the general sphere of discourse now in a way that in the UK they weren't in the 90s. And this doesn't mean that a character like Babs isn't a problem, it means that many of the people who might be aware of the problem now weren't then because it hadn't been pointed out to them. And that isn't an excuse either. It's like all the history that comes back, unresolved, to haunt us.
You could tell that it haunted
The League of Gentlemen
: in the special episodes that aired over the 2017 Christmas season, she's back. She has to be, really: in a lot of ways, Babs acts like a Greek chorus for the unfolding story. So here she is, opening proceedings as ever. Barbara has transitioned successfully now, and she even says that trans people should not be "a source of cheap laughs" just for being who they are, and given that Barbara is a character who has always been framed as having her heart in the right place, as someone you're supposed to sympathise with, it's pretty clear that this is what Dyson, Gatiss, Pemberton and Shearsmith actually think.
But for her to even appear, and it's more or less obligatory that she does, she still has to supply a joke. So now, no longer an Ugly Trans Person, Barbara is an Excessively Touchy Trans Person who seizes on innocuous statements and takes offence to comic effect.
I wonder if Papa Lazarou and Barbara are problems like this because of the way
The League of Gentlemen
engages with its inspirations.
The League of Gentlemen
owes a great deal to classic British TV and cinema of the 60s and 70s, but crucially it engages with that source material in a way that enriches the show. It's instructive here to compare it with
Dr Terrible's House of Horrible
, which is roughly contemporary and which, unlike
The League of Gentlemen
, has not entered the annals of classic comedy. They both get their inspiration from similar places, in fact in several cases the same places – I mentioned
The League of Gentlemen
's odd relationship with sketch comedy, and it's sort of fair to say that it's sketch comedy in the way that an Amicus anthology horror is sketch horror. But where
Dr Horrible
depended on your being familiar with the source material, at least to some extent, to get the gag,
The League of Gentlemen
tells a collection of stories that don't depend on any foreknowledge at all. It's not a parody, and it's not entirely an homage either, although it has parodic elements and homage is threaded through the whole thing.
Rather, it's a comedy that focusses on the absurdity of evil and the equal absurdity of despair and that uses the grammar of classic British horror to tell those stories.
A Beast.
For example, a narrative thread in the fourth episode has workers on a proposed road digging up an inexplicable creature. Mr Chinnery comes to examine it, and proves as incompetent as ever. And while the scene carries a bunch of signifiers that come from Nigel Kneale, echoing
Quatermass
and
Beasts
in particular, and multiplied by the simple fact that Mr Chinnery looks and acts like Tristan Farnham (Peter Davison's character in
All Creatures Great and Small
), the joke doesn't depend on that. It depends on a moment of uncanny horror punctured when the vet's incompetence is revealed once more.
For the joke to land, you don't have to have seen
Baby
or
Quatermass and the Pit
, and while the whole scene is richer if you imagine Tristan Farnham in a Nigel Kneale script, that's not the joke. No, for the joke to land, you just need to have seen Mr Chinnery in action enough for you to be waiting for the moment when he fails catastrophically.
And throughout
The League of Gentlemen
, this texture is present. Royston Vasey is a vaguely comical, Northern-sounding name. But it is also the real name of legendarily foul-mouthed comedian Roy "Chubby" Brown, who himself appears later in the series as the town's mayor. And the joke with the mayor is that he's got a swearing problem, and that's a simple enough joke that you don't need to know who Roy "Chubby" Brown is, or that he's guesting as mayor of a town named after him to get it. That other stuff helps, but it isn't essential.
But the problem with the way that
The League of Gentlemen
mines classic horror and comedy is that sometimes it homages the things that perhaps should be left behind, so you get characters like Babs and Papa Lazarou, who are both beautifully played and well-written comic characters, but who reference stuff that is difficult to justify beyond nostalgia.
The League of Gentlemen
is important as the first sign of the folk horror renaissance that we've had in the last few years. Rather than saying "look at all these ropey old films! Aren't they terrible?"
The League of Gentlemen
embraces them, but crucially makes new things. It's a comedy, but it's also a horror: Edward and Tubbs reference any number of pagan village conspiracies. "We didn't burn him!" blurts Tubbs to the Scottish policeman who comes looking for poor missing Martin, but not before Edward tells Tubbs that she "did it beautifully."  You don't have to know that they're quoting
The Wicker Man
to think they're funny and scary.
There's nothing for
you
here.
The members of
The League of Gentlemen
have taken active part in the rise of folk horror as a recognised genre. Jeremy Dyson scripted the recent film
Ghost Stories.
Shearsmith of course starred in
A Field in England
, and with Pemberton continues to make
Inside No. 9
, an anthology show that combines comedy and drama, and which has had at least a couple of folk horror episodes. The most notable of these is
The Trial of Elizabeth Gadge
, where Pemberton and Shearsmith play 17th century witch hunters. Just like
The League of Gentlemen
,
The Trial of Elizabeth Gadge
isn't a spoof or a parody, it's a black comedy that stands on its own merits, even while it draws inspiration from other sources.
And Reese Shearsmith took part in Folk Horror Revival's 2016 event at the British Museum, hearing about which is how I realised that there was a name for the things I liked.
Mark Gatiss is the man who might be credited for extending the name "folk horror" to a genre (Piers Haggard being the first to apply it consciously to his own film). In his 2010 series
History of Horror
, Gatiss popularised the idea of the Unholy Trinity, and talked at length about
Blood on Satan's Claw
, which probably did more to bring about the critical reassessment of that film than anything else. Gatiss also wrote
Crooked House
, which aired on the BBC in 2008, and the 2013 adaptation of
The Tractate Middoth.
Together with Shearsmith, Gatiss has remade
Blood on Satan's Claw
as an audio drama (released January 2018).
You could argue pretty persuasively that without
The League of Gentlemen
, there might not have been a rebirth of interest in folk horror at all. Without them, it would still be an accidental genre. A local genre, for local people.

i haven’t been on this blog because it’s exhaustion i cannot handle but imma just say this on some real shit. i keep quiet about a lot of shit on this website. i keep my circles small and dont really venture out of it. i’ll have conversations where i feel them worth my time, and i’ll block / unfollow otherwise because i deal with enough as it is out here without worrying about these ignorant ass lil kids in here speaking on shit they know not a thing about. now, the good news is that for the most part, i’ve managed to avoid the worst shit people on this site have done but hear me out. especially NON-BLACK POC hear me out.
first off, don’t try using that POC card with me. people always wondered why i had an issue with the term and it should be easy to figure out now. i was raised by my mexican side of the family. i know how non - black poc can be. they loved me to death, but they hated THEY HATED THEY HATED MY BLACKNESS. they hated it. they still hate it. to this day, they still don’t want my little mexican cousins dating black boys or making black kids. to this day !! and dont care how i feel about it !  im 26 !! now imagine when my mom came home with my black dad and a black baby in her stomach. what you think was the first suggestion? from my nana, a woman who practically raised me was willing to never see me born for what i was ! for what i couldn’t control ! they hated my blackness so much they wanted to stomp it out. i hated myself and my blackness for most of my life, and my dad wasn’t there to tell me it was okay to not hate it. that i could love myself. and so dont expect me to just take your “oh im POC i cant hate black people” at face value because i know for a mufuckin fact that dont mean shit. if anything, it’s more fucking dangerous.
so anyway don’t pull that shit with me. you may be able to pull that shit in your IMs and private chats and use “ POC ” and say you’re including black people, but i know you not most of the time. there’s a reason i don’t say much on tumblr, and it’s because i don’t TRUST y’all. when you advocate, you use blanket terms and beat around bushes and pick and choose what battles you down for, and it’s tired. it’s tired, and it’s disgusting? who you tryna fool? i’m a black man in america, i don’t trust just anyone who puts “ally” on their resume. you earn that shit, and right now, you ain’t earning it from us. which is funny because my next point is this:
i see my people out here going to war for yall. lgbt people, jewish people, latinx people, etc. and i’ve personally seen / experienced antiblack shit from each of these groups despite being part of a few myself. but i see black people out here risking their mental health, their energy, their comfort for yall, and then when we need help, you wanna play that “thoughts and prayers” shit then move on because it don’t affect you? naw, i’ve been known that tumblr is full of performative allyship. i know half yall just dont wanna get caught in the crosshairs ( metaphor, y’all, im not threatening you ) and you are so outspoken and bold and flamboyant about the shit that it comes off fake half the fucking time anyway. none of it sincere, so now i never trusted most of yall. i’ve probably unfollowed more of the fake shit than any actual problematic people because that’s who i find on my dash more somehow. it’s easier to avoid the racists / sexists / homophobes / transphobes etc. than it is to avoid you fake ass allies ! what do that tell you?
look, you wanna show up? show up. step the fuck up. i ain’t sayin we dont need the help. have conversations. call your people out. google some shit. educate YOURSELF like black people had to all those years we weren’t given the privilege. don’t make your daily tumblr advocate obligatory psa then move on. because we out here puttin in work for yall and you wanna act like when we turn around asking for respect, we puttin you outta house and home. let me tell you this. if you have the luxury of smothering out black people until you need them to come bat for you, you have no idea what it’s like to be truly helpless. and one day, we gon stop coming. one day, we not gon be there to hold you up. so think about that the next time someone comes for us, and you wanna watch from the sidelines until the fight’s over and all you gotta do is like a post or reblog the shit.
