Here's a slightly old piece of art that I finished. I must say, I hate his pants. Why stripes? They're so hard to draw 😭 I'm sure I'll get less wobbly someday...

I don't know if people really understand the effect simple things have on others. As a fanfiction author, yes I write my weird little stories for myself, but once you get a comment or a kudos or a vote or whatever it may be, everything sort of shifts.
It gains a sense of responsibility yes, but it also gains a new excitement. For example, we've all been that little kid scribbling away with a crayon. We're going to do other similar crayon drawings, but nothing feels as good as showing that little picture to your parent, guardian, or whoever else. I and the other authors/artists are that little kid with the crayon drawing.
If you leave a comment, I will always remember that. Even if it's just 'good chapter.' or 'im about to commit murder 😃🔪' or '❤️❤️❤️'. Authors and artists remember these things!! If you are one of the people who leave essay comments, I have to sit down and take a minute to calm down enough to have a coherent reply. You dear friend, are wonderful.
If you keep coming back or leave multiple comments, I REMEMBER YOU!! I may even consider you a fandom friend or in Tumblr language, a mutual! I see you!!!!!
If you make art, or a story of your own, or make a translation,,,,,, I would die for you. I save the art. I look at it. I downloaded it to my camera roll and favorite it. I read your fic. I comment on it as well. I recommend your translation in the authors note because that may be more convenient for people to read.
I try to express just how much it means to me that you did any of the above things especially the things in the last paragraph. The words don't word. I end up going, "I absolutely love it!!!!!!!!" And "jteaykrsktrsotaptd" and it doesn't work. Well, not entirely. That may send the message across mostly. You see that on your side of the screen and on my side, you would see me pacing, talking to myself about how wow that is amazing and so sweet and oh my heck I would die for you, and doing a weird jazz hands thing and putting my hand over my heart, and sitting down because I need a minute-, and I never forget.
It makes me want to do so much more. It makes me love my weird little creation that much more and grants motivation. I ALWAYS remember. And I think about it all the time. And when I post more I think, 'oh, I hope this meets their expectations and I hope they like it!!' And 'wow I'm getting better at this, I wonder if they noticed?' And 'wow I love and appreciate you so much!'
Even if it's a little thing, it means the world to us little crayon drawing people.

(submitted by @lookimtryingmybest)
I wrote something.
(Trigger warning for using it/its pronouns to dehumanize someone because the TVA does shit like that.)
Ravonna had seen so many Lokis, she’d lost count. She’d seen them young, old, good and bad. She’d seen them in all forms and sizes. She’d even seen an alligator Loki once.
But this one was different.
If there was a thing that made a Loki a Loki was their defiance. A Loki refused to give in, no matter how much you may hurt it. They always found ways to screw you over and run away. But this one, this one had no fight in it.
This Loki was a tricky variant. It had escaped Thanos’s grasp at the worst point of its torture. The TVA had chased it throughout half a galaxy before catching him right before it entered Asgard.
Lokis. So predictable.
It was shaking, already crying–Lokis always cried– and stumbling in its feet. It was the perfect blank slate.
She ignored its pleas of “don’t take me back to him, please, I’m useful, I’ll do anything, please don’t take me back.” And turned to C-22?.
“Take it to the memory chambers.” Ravonna said.
~Ω~
“Mobius, meet your new assistant.” Ravonna said, allowing the new TVA tool to step from behind her. “This is Sati.”
Mobius smiled a stiff, fake smile. “A pleasure. I’m Mobius. Mobius M. Mobius.”
Ravonna seemed to sense his discontent. “Don’t worry, I assure you, Sati’s an expert on Lokis. You’ll get along great.”
“I look forward to working together, sir.” The ex Loki said. Its smile didn’t reach its eyes.
~Ω~
“I could be useful out in the field!” Sati complained. It was starting to get annoying, with all its whining and crying for attention. Not even the memory chambers could take the attention seeking out of a Loki.
“You’re not allowed.” Mobius said, running out of patience. “Besides, you’re too valuable and this variant is too violent.”
Sati pouted. It looked pathetic. “I understand. I just… wanted to help.”
“You do help, you’re our walking Loki archive.”
“A library could do my job.” Sati muttered under its breath.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
~Ω~
“Loki, this is Sati, my assistant and our… well, our you archive. It knows everything about you. Every detail.”
Loki eyed the ginger man. His hair looked dyed.
Sati beamed, offering a hand. “A pleasure to meet you, I look forward to working with you.” He almost sounded genuine.
“The feeling is mutual.” Loki said, giving him a fake smile.
~Ω~
“So…” Loki said, as they waited for Mobius to exit his meeting with the judge. “If you’re a me-expert, why am I here?”
“You’re the one that sold himself as indispensable.”
“Question of survival, really, now stop dodging my questions.”
“Reasonable Loki response.”
“Do not–”
“Evade your questions? I won’t. To be honest, I don’t think this variant is a Loki at all.”
“And you need me then to…?”
“Confirm my theory. Get a look at this variant’s seidr signature to compare it with your own. Then maybe they’ll listen to me.”
“You know about seidr?”
“I’m a Loki expert. I know everything.”
“Yes, well, people don’t usually care much about seidr. T’is–”
“A womanly art? Yeah, that’s bull’s crap. I wish I could learn it myself.”
“Maybe you could.” Said Loki, giving one of his mischievous smirks.
Sati rolled its eyes. “Imma indulge you. How could I?”
“I can see people’s seidr, but not here. Magic is repressed here. No magic, no colour, it’s so dreadfully empty. If we went outside, I could check.”
“I’m not allowed in the field.”
“Yes, yes, you’re too valuable an asset to lose to a rogue me-variant. But we could go somewhere safe. Somewhere isolated.”
“That’s against the rules”
“So?”
“…I’ll think about it.”
Loki smiled.
~Ω~
“We were near her, I think she’s a she her, but she had lit everything on fire so I was a bit preoccupied trying not to be burnt alive than to read her seidr.”
“It’s ok, at least we know she’s a woman variant, which, yes, Loki woman variants are pretty common. But blonde? Yeah, a Loki would never be blond.”
“Too much like my brother.”
“Indeed. Think it could be a Thor variant?”
“Doubt it. My brother, or, well, would be sister, she’s too smart to be a Thor.”
Sati pouted. “Well there goes my only theory.” It crossed out the few lines it had written in its notebook and passed the page. “You’ve got any idea?”
“Well, she’s Asgardian for sure, and probably nobility. Unless she stole from the nobility, which is a possibility.”
“That narrows it down to… a bit less than ten thousand people.”
“One thousand and a half if you only consider noble people.”
“I am only considering noble people. I am also considering them from all the entirety of Asgard’s history.”
“Oh. Right. Well, if I get a closer look I could try deduce where she’s from by the outfit.”
“And take the opportunity to talk to her and betray us? Yeah, not gonna happen buddy.”
“I’m not gonna betray you.”
“Then you’re more of an idiot than I thought you were.” Sati said. “Or you’re lying, which I know you are.”
Loki gasp, faking offence. “How dare you.”
The chair in front of them creaked as Mobius sat down, letting go of a pile of documents.
“So, what do we got?” He asked, not bothering to say hello.
“She’s a she variant, blonde, asgardian and probably noble.” Sati said, organizing its papers. “We have ruled out the possibility of her being a Loki variant, and the chances of her being a Thor variant. If we could manage a close–”
“I already told you, it’s a Loki variant.” Mobius said. “That’s what the higher ups say, it’s not your job to run conspiracy theories about that. Your job is to catch her.”
“But that’s the problem, you keep insisting she’s a Loki when the modus operandi does not match! We’re wasting time because you insist to treat her like someone she’s not, it’s like trying to eat soup with a fork!”
“Sati. Calm down.”
Loki watched Sati clench its teeth, leaning back on its chair. It went back to looking over its notes.
“Well” Loki said, “what did you bring us?”
Mobius pushed the pile of documents towards him. “Information on the history of Asgard and of you. Maybe with this, and Sati’s help, you can figure out where she’s hiding, or what she’s gonna do next.” He stood up from the table. “I’m gonna go get a coffee, I’ll be right back.”
“Bring me hot chocolate.” Sati said, eyes focused on its notebook.
“Sure, will do.” Mobius said.
Mobius did not bring any hot chocolate back.
~Ω~
“So the apocalypse theory was right, then?” Sati asked, walking next to Loki.
“Yes, now we only have to figure out in which apocalypse she’s hiding.”
“Oh, don’t worry, I was already cross referring information about apocalypses, or events of massive destruction. The librarians have a bad way of measuring the level of destruction, but luckily they’re ordered chronologically and not by level.”
“The TVA have a bad way of doing everything.” Loki mutters. “Anyways, what did you get?”
“Oh, there’s three major possibilities. Two based on personal background, and one on an object retrieved from a crime scene that might have belonged to the variant.”
“Do tell.”
“First would be Ragnarok, the destruction of Asgard. Or a bit earlier, a thousand years or more, don’t know the exact details, you hadn’t been born yet, the genocide of the Dark Elves. Those seem like places any asgardian variant would go if they wanted to take refuge in apocalypses. As for the one deduced from a candy bar–”
Then Sati stopped, staring ahead them.
Loki frowned, and followed his gaze.
“Huh.” He said. “Didn’t know they had Thanos variants.”

Safe Haven: tfatws!Bucky Barnes x fem!reader - Chapter Ten
Tumblr media
chapter nine - Chapter Ten: Heroes - chapter eleven
Series Masterlist
Plot: Y/n, Sam and Bucky make one final effort to stop the Flag Smashers.
Warnings: spoilers for episode.6, violence, character death (major), wounds, blood, ANGST ANGST ANGST, Bucky and Y/n are a badass couple, Sam and Y/n are a badass sibling duo, everybody’s a badass, inaccurate medical care (unless you consider google legit then it’s for real lol)
Word Count: 8.6k
A/N: GUYS. SECOND TO LAST CHAPTER. HOW DID WE GET HERE?!?! This one was challenging to write because I wanted to still make it mainly focus on Sam and not detract from his story while incorporating another one, hopefully I did it justice. Smaller amount of Bucky Y/n fluff purely because of plot. Imma shut up now and let you guys judge it for yourselves, hopefully you enjoy ☺️
----
I’d always wanted to visit New York, I just never thought that the circumstances in which I’d come would be so dire.
Surprisingly, flying from Delacroix to the city hadn’t been as draining as I’d thought, the adrenaline rushing through me was enough to keep my stamina up. Once I got into the state I shot up higher, the only way to pinpoint the city’s location was by sight alone. The mass of flashing red, white and blue lights served as a literal guiding light and I followed it till my feet made contact with the ground. I landed in between two buildings, a safe distance away from the commotion but close enough that I could intervene if needed. Sam had told me to go ahead of him and meet up with Bucky, the two of us would be on the ground while Sam took care of business with the senators. “Something’s different…” the voice I’d gone days without hearing announced from behind me, “New haircut?” I smirked and turned to face Bucky, “Do you get bulletproof suits for all the girls that catch your eye?” “Only the ones I really like,” he smiled, cradling my cheek in his hand and giving me an overdue kiss before pulling back to admire the suit, “Looks good on you.” The suit that Bucky had the Wakandans design for me was made almost entirely of Vibranium. It was sapphire blue, the same color of my energy with accent lines of silver running through it to define the shape. It clung tight to my body without showing off too much, the v neckline ended just below my collarbone. Hidden behind Bucky’s note in the case had also been a note from Shuri, the princess of Wakanda, listing that the suit was bullet proof and should I choose to channel my energy through a specific part of my body, the Vibranium would absorb and redistribute it to amplify my strike. The whole ensemble made me feel an official member of whatever club I’d decided to join.
I opened my fingerless glove adorned palm out to Bucky, offering him one of the comms Sam had given me and placing the other in my ear. “Ready?” he asked.
For once, I could answer feeling fully confidant in my capabilities. I reached out and squeezed Bucky’s hand, giving a single nod, “Ready.”
The two of us made our way out from between the buildings and headed into the heart of the chaos. There were news crews, police officers, soldiers and SWAT teams while innocent bystanders quickly fled the scene.
“Sam, where you at?” I said into my comm.
“I’m almost there,” he replied.
“What’s the plan?” Bucky asked from beside me.
“Karli’s gotta be close, keep your eyes open.” “Well, it could be anybody…” Bucky said quietly as we passed by a group of officers.
We headed for the building in which the senators were being held, the SWAT team immediately parting to allow Sergeant Barnes and myself to enter. Whether or not he was paying attention to anything other than finding Karli, I wasn’t sure, but I smiled internally at the fact that they’d recognized him for what he should have been recognized for all this time.
“Oh, we also called in some backup,” I relayed to Bucky.
“Excuse me, sir, ma’am,” we turned to see a man in a beanie following us, “Are you supposed to be here?” Bucky looked stunned and slightly concerned while I stayed calm, recognizing the signal. Immediately, Sharon ripped off the technologically advanced mask that concealed her identity. “It’s me.” “Sharon, what the hell are you doing here?” Bucky asked.
I gestured to the woman, “Backing us up…” “Relax, no one’s looking for me here,” she said, pulling on Bucky’s arm in an effort to get us away from the crowd. “Is that Sharon?” Sam asked over the comms.
“Unfortunately,” Bucky answered, earning a light, disapproving smack from me to his chest.
“Hey, Sam, I thought I’d get the band back together,” Sharon said into her earpiece.
“Thank you, you’re risking a lot coming here.” I took a step forward towards the blonde, “If you want me to fly you out of here, now’s the time.”
She gave a little shrug, “I hear pardons aren’t all they’re cracked up to be anyway.”
“Depends on the therapist,” Bucky grumbled.
“They’re gonna move on the building soon. Be ready,” Sam’s voice flowed into my ear.
“Same goes for you,” I replied, trying to compartmentalize the constant anxiety that ran through me in regards to my brother’s safety. Though knowing he wore vibranium wings now did help ease my fears a little. I turned my attention back to Sharon and Bucky, “Let’s split up and do a perimeter check. Front’s clear so I’ll take the back, you two take the sides.” “Wow,” Sharon smirked, “Give you a suit and suddenly you’re Miss Take Charge.” I shot her smirk right back at her as she headed down her side of the building while Bucky and I went around the other way. “Somethin’ changed while I was gone,” he observed as we walked. “You made amends,” I replied, flashing back to my visit to the graveyard, “I made peace.” I expelled energy from my fingertips to float above him and fly to the back of the building, not a soul in sight.
“Y/n, Sharon, Bucky, what’s going on on your end?” Sam asked.
“Nothing, all quiet,” Bucky answered. “Same here,” I said, taking another look around me to be sure,
“No one’s moving toward the building,” Sharon added.
“Karli’s not coming in. She’s trying to force everybody out,” Sam said, “It’s a misdirect, we gotta keep everybody inside.”
I levitated once again and headed to the front of the building, finding Bucky and Sharon waiting for me. Once I landed, we entered through the glass doors. “You guys are gonna have to do something,” Sam panted through the comm, “Don’t let ‘em out of the building.”
We passed through the building’s metal detectors one by one with no issue, till the alarm sounded off on Sharon. “Oops,” she muttered unconvincingly. “Here’s one of them,” Bucky said, gesturing towards a man in a security uniform, a Flag Smasher, “We’ll get the evac.” Bucky and I winded around the halls but didn’t get far before a woman came walking towards us with a phone extended out in her palm, “Mr. Barnes, Miss. Y/l/n, it’s Karli.” How she knew my name baffled me, Bucky reached for the phone regardless and took note of the orange handprint projected on the screen. He placed the call on speaker, “Karli?”
“Aren’t you two tired of fighting for the wrong side?” the young girl asked.
Bucky scoffed as we stepped down a staircase, “I’ve done this before, kid. I know how it ends.”
“It doesn’t matter if I don’t survive this,” she replied, “I’m fighting for something bigger than myself. With all the bodies you’ve collected, have you been able to say the same?”
“You don’t think I ever fought for something bigger than myself?” Bucky asked, “That’s all I ever tried to do. And I failed twice.” I tugged Bucky’s arm so the phone was in front of me, “Karli, all I’ve ever wanted was to use my powers for good. I respect the fight you’re fighting but this isn’t the way to win it.” “Believe me, I know all about your father’s crimes,” she spoke back, “I looked you up after meeting you in Riga, and trust me, the side you’re on is no better than the one your dad was one.” My heart clenched at her words, I knew that she was a black and white person who only dealt in absolutes, but it didn’t mean hearing it didn’t hurt. “If you wanted to do any real good, you’d have joined us,” Karli continued, “You’d have needed to get your hands dirty, but you’d have made an actual difference.” “You think your cause justifies all this death,” Bucky stepped in and took the wheel, “But in the end, the nightmares won’t go away. You’re gonna remember all the ones you killed. Trust me. Don’t do this. Don’t go down this path.”
There was a hopeful pause over the line, followed by a disappointing response. “If that’s how the both of you feel, you should sit this one out.” I glanced over at Bucky, sharing the same tired, yet determined look I was displaying. “That’s not gonna happen.” “Well, thank you,” Karlie replied, “I’m glad you took my call, you’ve been a big help.” She hung up then, the realization hitting me immediately as to why she’d called us. “The evac,” I breathed, “It was a deterrence.”
“Damn it,” Bucky growled with a clenched jaw, “Come on!”
We raced through across the floor of the building, making for the winding staircase lit up with flashing emergency lights that would lead us to the parking lot. Since we were the only two fleeing the building that particular way, it was a safe bet to make that the hostages had already been evacuated. Once we were in the parking lot, Bucky took the lead and led me to a parked row of motorcycles, quickly hot-wiring one.
“Seriously, guys, you had one job,” Sharon popped out from behind a pillar to critique us.
“You worry about your guy,” Bucky grumbled as he swung his leg over to straddle the vehicle, I promptly did the same, “Good?” Locking my arms around his torso and scooching forward so my Vibranium chest was pressed against his back, I nodded. “Good.” Bucky floored the gas pedal and we rode off with an echoing screech, finding our way through the garage’s exit. A blockade of soldiers yelled at us as we quickly approached them, shooting through the gap between barriers and whipping around the street corner. On any other occasion I’d have enjoyed clinging tight to Bucky’s body as we rode through the cool New York evening air. Sadly, there was no time to savor the moment.
“That’s one down,” Sharon’s voice came through my comm. “How’d you manage that?” Sam joined in. “Mercury vapor, amongst other things.” Bucky made a sharp turn down one of the streets causing me to clutch his middle tighter, “Any idea where they’ll be headed?” “I thought you were the one in charge,” Bucky retorted over the engine’s noise. “You better speed things up, Sam,” Sharon said, “The chopper’s about to take off.” “Bucky, Y/n,” Sam called, grunts following directly after. Bucky halted at a light, determining the rest of our course. “I don’t fly, man, that’s your guys’ thing.” He revved the bike and turned down a different street.
I pressed a hand to my ear, “Meet you there.” Placing a reassuring hand on Bucky’s shoulder, I levitated off the motorcycle and watched him continue on his path while I turned in the opposite direction and headed back through the city. From across the way, I could see the silhouette of Sam’s wings as he jumped off of the building after the helicopter. The chopper had taken a nose dive and was headed for the street, pulling up just before it hit the overpass. I quickened the speed in which I was flying over the bay, catching up to Sam soon enough. He flew lower than me, his new wings dipping into the waters before he shot back up.
“Plan?” I called into the comms as I kept close to the rear of the chopper. “We gotta take out the pilot,” Sam answered, “Take the left side.” I flew to my designated spot and reached out a hand to grasp onto one of the bars of the plane. Reabsorbing my energy, I put full faith in my grip as I dangled off of the helicopter in mid flight. I poked my head out to the window on the pilot’s side only to be given a front row seat to his attempt to kill Sam, firing a machine gun till my brother was forced to pull back and off the chopper. The pilot whipped his head around to lay eyes on me, aiming his gun. Lightning fast, I let go of the bar and narrowly escaped the shots fired, throwing my hands out and expelling energy to resume my flight. Sam wasn’t far behind, we took off in tandem with one another with him sending Redwing ahead to see if any of the hostages had flight training. As the chopper plunged towards the water, we moved in synch with it, just a few hundred feet behind in a dance of sorts. In the distance, I could barely make out the shape of an almost identical vehicle headed towards the one we were tailing, this one bearing the logo of the NYPD. Our chopper rammed itself into the front of the police copter, sending it spinning in a spiral of smoke and fire. If we didn’t get there in time, it would crash into one of the skyscrapers or worse. Sam and I changed course and made a beeline for it. “Get the co-pilot,” Sam yelled as he swerved to my left.
I flew up to the side window and shot an energy blast towards it, smashing the glass and startling the co-pilot. I then levitated him out of the chopper and flew the two of us down to the bridge below us, Sam was right behind me with the pilot. The plane was losing altitude fast and was headed straight for our rescue party. Before I could even think to build a force field, Sam shoved me and the pilots down and shielded us with his wings. I felt the Vibranium shake as the plane bounced off of us and over the edge of the bridge. Sam retracted his wings and the two of us rose to our full heights, him in all his red, white and blue glory.
“Go, I got this,” he instructed, taking off into the skies before I could put up a fight.
I levitated high above the bridge to get a birds eye view of the city, “Bucky, where are you?”
“42nd Street, heading west,” he answered
“I’m a tourist, those words mean nothing to me.”
“I’m passing a building with white and red lights,” he modified his answer. My eyes searched for the building he was talking about, spotting it quickly and taking off toward it. I looked below me to see two humvees and multiple bodies running around them. “Found them, they’re trying to build a-“ “I see ‘em, coming in hot,” Bucky interrupted, I could see his motorcycle speeding down the street and toward the barricade the Flag Smashers had arranged. Taking a leap, or rather a fall of faith, I absorbed my energy and free fell, throwing my hands out and releasing it just before my feet hit the ground. Bucky wasn’t far behind, leaping off his motorcycle and diving forward to tackle one of the Flag Smashers. The man jumped to his feet and Bucky engaged him in combat, the two exchanging punches with Bucky having more favor. In a split second of separation between the two I shot a blast of energy at the man that sent him flying backwards into the side of a truck, creating a super soldier shaped dent in the car. A sudden explosion sounded off nearby, I turned to see that one of the humvees had been set ablaze. Bucky and I ran to the vehicle, I sent an energy blast towards the high tech lock that had been placed on the back doors. It did absolutely nothing.
“Hold on,” Bucky shouted to the screaming hostages as he used his Vibranium arm to pull on the door handle. Even he couldn’t get it open. “Help me!”
I focused all my energy on the lock, sending unsuccessful blast after unsuccessful blast. Letting out a frustrated cry, I backed away giving Bucky another chance to try. He began throwing a stream of relentless punches, his determination growing with each hit. Eventually he’d done enough damage that he switched to pulling at the door’s bar. The pain on his face as he pulled was heartbreaking, the tendons and muscles where his prosthetic met his flesh stretching to too great a length. Making one last ditch effort, I extended my energy towards the handle to help him in his efforts. Together, we strained and struggled until the lock finally broke and the doors opened. While Bucky kept his footing, I fell backwards doing a very ungraceful somersault and landed on my side. What I saw happening in front of me was almost too shocking to believe, and yet not at all.
John Walker was getting his ass kicked by the Flag Smashers.
With a replica of the iconic shield that was definitely not made of Vibranium and his suit, he was lying on the ground being pummeled by the super soldiers. With the vigor in which they were attacking him, I knew that the metal wouldn’t protect him forever. The man that I hated, who had tried to kill me, Sam and Bucky, who had shed innocent blood on Steve’s legacy…I could have let them kill him and I should have wanted to.
But even in my hatred, I couldn’t let a man die.
I rose to my feet and sent a stream of energy towards two of them, knocking them a few feet away from Walker. The third who I deduced to be Karli, came charging at me. I threw up a force field to act as a shield and met each one of her punches with the energy. She let out grunts of frustration, going for a roundhouse kick but giving me just enough time to drop the field and levitate her into the air. I held her there a second, watching her flail about trying to escape before tossing her several hundred feet away from us towards the end of the street. The two Flag Smashers that I’d knocked over came charging back toward me, it was time to test out just what the suit could do…
I focused my energy out through my elbow and hit one of them square in the jaw, the energy sending him rolling down the road far greater a distance that I’d have been able to cause without the Vibranium amplifying it. I turned around to the other one, dodging a quick punch before sending my energy down to my foot, landing a kick my attacker’s stomach that caused him to go airborne and land on top of one of the trucks. Unfortunately, the first guy didn’t stay down as long as I needed him to and came up from behind me and landed a kick to my back. I fell to the road with a groan, felt the burn of the asphalt as it shredded my cheek. I heard the man rip something metal followed by the sound of his thick boots coming my way, undoubtably he’d grabbed something to use as a weapon. As I rose to take another stand, I saw Bucky come running past me and turned to watch him knock the Flag Smasher over, the man dropping the toll meter he’d been holding as a bat over me. Bucky strode forward and they began fighting one another with punches and kicks while I looked around to see Karli welding the unattended meter. She swung it towards Bucky, his avoidance of the hit and my creation of a force field around him totally in synch. Karli took another swing at him and met resistance, unable to move the weapon as I froze it in place with my energy.
“You don’t have to do this,” I urged her.
With a yell she let go of the weapon and dove for me, being hit in the face with a chain that Bucky had picked up. Before I could stop it, the Flag Smasher who had originally intended to hit me with the toll meter landed a kick that sent Bucky flying backwards. His metal hand scraping the asphalt as he desperately tried to hold on before going over the edge of the nearby construction site. “BUCKY!” I cried as he screamed into the night air just before Karli kicked me down herself, and landed a punch to my abdomen. The Vibranium, while giving me protection, still allowed some of the blow to reach me and I was in just enough pain that I couldn’t go after the Flag Smasher that leapt down into the construction hole Bucky had landed in. I sent a blast of energy at Karli, throwing her back and allowing me the time to stand up and regain my footing. At the same time I rose, so did Walker, the two of us sharing eye contact that was oceans away from the last time we’d met on the battlefield. Separating once again, he turned to lift one of the Flag Smashers up by her throat while I landed a punch on one that was coming for me. The second van of hostages was brimming with horrified screams, both my and Walker’s attention being redirected to them. Karli, who stood a few feet away from us, made a run for the humvee and Walker and I chased after her. Walker braced himself with the shield and the two of them came face to face with one another. Giving another insignificant try, I sent a stream of energy towards the lock in an attempt to break it but couldn’t without Bucky’s brute strength. Behind me, I could hear the grunts and groans of Walker and Karli moving around as they fought one another. When the noises got too distant to still be close by, I knew I needed to go back Walker up.
I looked through the everything-proof glass window to the terrified faces of the senators. “We’ll get you out, I promise,” I yelled, taking off towards the fight.
Karli came running out from where they’d disappeared behind, I sent another blast her way that she dodged. She leapt into the air with a cry and raised a fist, I threw up a force field that she bounced off of and rolled to the ground. “This isn’t change, Karli,” I spoke up over the noise of the fire, “It’s murder.” The only response I got was another yell, Karli came charging towards me forcing me to throw up another shield to deflect her punches and kicks. I didn’t want to hurt her, I didn’t even want to fight her. It was different than with Walker where there was a mutual disliking of one another since almost the very beginning, she was just a kid looking to fight anyone who got in her way. Her cause was even something I agreed with, but I couldn’t stand by her taking innocent lives in the process.
Karli caught my exposed neck, gripping my neck tightly and holding me in the air. The bruises from Walker’s assault hadn’t fully healed and Karli was squeezing far tighter than he had. Thinking quickly, I swung my legs around to the back of her knees and forced my energy out of my feet as I slammed into her legs. The two of us fell in a heap, Karli on top of me with her grip loose enough on my throat that I could get out of it and flip her over. I pinned her hands to the asphalt on either side of her head using my energy, “You can stop all of this right now,” I urged over her furious cries, “Karli, please.”
Karli snarled at me before moving her knees to hit me in my back, throwing me off balance and giving her the perfect opportunity to launch me down the same hole Bucky had fallen down. I caught myself mid air and looked down to see Bucky and one of the Flag Smashers fighting with a metal beam, Bucky gaining the upper hand. I dropped to the ground and ran to him as he landed a final strike against the man, knocking him to the ground. As my hand reached out for his arm, there was a violent crash above us. We looked up to see that the humvee filled with the hostages had been driven off the road and was balancing on top of the construction. It teetered on the edge, ready to slip at any moment and finish Karli’s plan. I extended my energy to steady the vehicle, I wasn’t sure what made me think I could keep a couple thousand pound vehicle suspended in midair but the fact that I’d never used my powers like this didn’t matter. I had to try. As it rocked back and forth against my energy, I took a stance and dug my heels in the ground, sending up the steady streams I’d recently discovered I could produce. They curved around the front of the vehicle, protecting it from falling any further. The screams of terror from the hostages were my motivation to keep going, to do everything in my power that I could do save who I could.
After a few seconds of bearing my teeth and groaning in struggle, the load lessened slightly. I opened one of my eyes that had been squeezed shut in concentration to see Walker’s homemade shield near my feet, the decommissioned captain above me pulling the truck from the back. For once, we were working as a cohesive unit. Who would have thought…
All was short lived though as the second we were making progress on getting the humvee away from the edge, Karli and two other Flag Smashers jumped Walker and attacked him. Unable to hold them off, they toppled over and fell into the pit alongside Bucky and I. I cried out as the full weight of the humvee became mine to bear once again, fighting harder than ever to keep it from falling. Every muscle in my body clenched as I kept the streams flowing while also slowly rising off the ground, wondering if it was possible for my body to run out of energy with how much I was throwing into my stand. I had to save them, so long as I was able to fight, I wouldn’t allow any more innocent bloodshed. My hands shook, causing my streams to shake and I groaned as my body sent every signal that it couldn’t continue on.
As I started to falter, I felt something come up beside me and some of the heaviness was taken away. Looking to my left, Sam was in the air bracing the weight of the truck alongside me. I felt renewed with his help to rise with him as we used our combined strength to steadily raise the humvee back onto the beams of the construction site. Once it was secured, Sam and I both landed on either side of the truck and faced the crowd. I made the easy decision to fly back down into the pit, the moment belonged to Sam and no one else. Bucky was at my side at once, his hands on my arms and a careful set of eyes watching to make sure I was okay. I rested my forehead on his shoulder for a too brief second and nodded through my heavy breathing.
From in front of us, Karli launched a spear towards Bucky’s head that he easily got throwing it to the side as he stared her down. Sam’s shield came flying out of nowhere, hitting Karli and rebounding off of the other Flag Smasher before landing back on Sam’s wrist. Karli shed her mask, looking at him with disgust and shock. “You of all people bought into that bullshit?” she asked, examining his patriotic suit from a distance.
“I’m trying something different,” Sam answered, his voice steely, “Maybe you should do the same.”
A sudden explosion was set off, a grenade landing at our feet setting off smoke that blinded us. I quickly covered Sam, Walker, Bucky and myself in a large force field, as my eyes tried to make out Karli’s figure. “This way,” Sam directed, using the tech in his goggles to spot them. I dropped the shield and followed him, the only person I could make out semi-clearly in the haze. We ran down and through a nearby tunnel, weaving down underground hallways in search of the remainders of the group. “Hey Sharon,” Bucky said into his comm, “We’re underground. We entered the tunnel on William. Heading south.”
“Looks like they split up,” Sam announced, he pointed down a corridor, “Here.” Walker took off without a second thought, while Bucky paused in front of Sam and I. “I got it,” he pointed to my brother, brushing his fingers against mine before heading down the hall. Sam and I both watched them leave, my anxiety rising with each step Bucky took away from me. Shaking myself out of the spiral I knew I’d go down if I gave it any more thought, I followed Sam’s lead as we continued on our way. The sound of the Flag Smasher’s signature whistle echoed off the walls causing Sam and I to freeze, he determined where it may have come from and motioned for me to come forward.
“If something happens, you get the hell out of here, got it?” Sam whispered. “Nice try,” I replied, having flashbacks to the various times in the past week or so that we’d had conversations like this, “I’m not leaving you.” Suddenly, two shots were fired nearby. Sam and I bolted in the general direction that the sound had come from, fear flooding my body at the thought of Bucky being on the receiving end of one of the bullets. The worry caused me to run faster. We made it into a wider room, Karli standing in the middle with a gun aimed at a helpless Sharon, laying on the ground with a hand over her abdomen. I spotted the blood staining her shirt and threw a force field around her as Sam clipped his shield to his back. “Sam, stay back,” Karli warned, her eyes flicking to him briefly before landing back on Sharon.
“So, what’s next, huh?” Sam asked, taking careful steps toward her, “You kill ten this time, then, what, a hundred? Where does it end? Please,” he lowered his tone, “Let me help you.” “Don’t try and manipulate me,” Karli replied, looking between the blue barrier I shielded Sharon with and me. She twisted her body to aimed her gun at me, my resolve to protect Sharon stronger than protecting myself.
“Karli, don’t!” Sharon cried.
Sam dove forward and tackled the girl to the floor, somersaulting away from her as Karli raised a piece of cinderblock. She launched it at Sam who deflected the makeshift weapon with his shield. Karli swung at him and Sam jumped on top of a small staircase, his shield in front of him at all times. “I’m not gonna fight you!” he yelled, leaping off the stairs.
Karli continued her attack, Sam dug the tips of his wings into the concrete and met her fist with the shield. “Karli…” he urged just before she ripped the shield away and walked him backwards, Sam completing a series of jumps and flips. Karli grabbed a metal pipe and swung it at Sam, knocking him to the ground. “Stay down!” she growled.
Every instinct I had told me to go after the person who was endangering Sam’s life, anybody’s would be. But I knew that it was pointless to fight her, it was only giving her what she wanted. The serum enhanced people’s personalities, Karli had always been a fighter but now, she was looking to fight anything and anyone and would do it ruthlessly. I couldn’t buy into it.
I retracted the shield I’d built around Sharon and flew around Karli, placing myself between her and Sam. “Karli, the fight is over,” I breathed.
“No!” she shrieked, barely giving me enough time to throw up an energy shield before she threw a punch. Her fist bouncing off of it only angered her more and she began a relentless attack, banging her hands against the force field, taking swipes anywhere she could. I levitated over her head and landed a few feet away, luring her away from Sam. Karli was furious at the fact that she couldn’t touch me or get me to try and battle her. It didn’t take long for Sam to spring to his feet, throwing his shield out in between Karli and I. Karli focused her efforts on Sam then, punching the shield relentlessly as Sam walked her away from me. “Fight back!” she screamed in my brother’s face.
I extended my energy and pulled her away from Sam, throwing her a few feet away from us. Karli let out a battle cry and leapt forward, Sam and I coming side by side and holding up our respective shields. Karli’s fist rebounded off of my energy and spun around to hit Sam’s shield, he then grabbed her by the waist and turned on his thrusters, flying them across to room to slam Karli into a beam. “Stop it,” he ordered, gripping her by the lapels of her jacket. Karli replied by throwing him above her head into the ceiling, I used my energy to yank her away from Sam and in front of me.
“Listen to me, Karli,” I urged, earning a super-soldier shiner to my cheek, “We’re not your enemies.” Karli dropped me to the ground like I weighed nothing, the vibranium suit creating a dent in the flooring. I let out a groan at the shock and she ran off to deal with Sam. “Fight me!” she screamed as she clawed at the shield, “Fight back!” She flipped him over.
He fell.
The shield fell out of his reach.
Karli picked up the gun and aimed it at Sam.
He rose, accepting his fate.
Gathering the strength I had left, I got to my feet.
With trembling hands, knowing what I was about to do, I levitated and landed in front of Sam.
Karli’s face shifted, though I couldn’t read it as my emotions overwhelmed me.
A supercut ran through my mind.
Sam.
Sarah.
AJ and Cass.
Mel.
My mom.
My father.
A legacy rewritten.
Bucky.
Would he forgive me for what I was about to do? I hoped so.
“Go ahead,” I whispered, staring Karli down and blinking away the tears before she could see them, “Do it.” Karli’s face scrunched up as her finger prepared to pull the trigger when suddenly, three gunshots went off from nearby, hitting her. The gun fell to the ground and so did she. My eyes flew to where the bullets had come from, the sight of Sharon holding the smoking gun awaiting me. Sam dropped to his knees to cradle Karli’s head, the young girl staring up at him wide eyed and afraid. I knelt down on the other side of her, slipping her still warm hand into mine and giving it a gentle squeeze.
“I’m sorry,” she whimpered, staring up at Sam before looking to me. The only thought that ran through my mind was she’s just a girl, she’s just a girl…As I watched the tears well in her eyes before the life drained from them and they shut, the sudden innocence overwhelmed me. She was just a girl…
I didn’t let go of her hand even when it went limp, holding it to my heart as I wept over her. Sam cradled her cheek as we sat quietly, the only sounds were my soft sobs and Sharon’s labored breathing. I couldn’t face her right now, my feelings were too mixed about the way she had saved my life.
Eventually, once an undetermined amount of minutes had passed, Sam lifted Karli into his arms and the two of us rose to leave. When I turned to tell Sharon to come with us, she was already gone, probably having slipped out a back hallway. Sam carried Karli’s body the entire way out of the building, I hardly registered when we made it outside in the night air.
“I’ll clear the way for you,” I mumbled, extending my energy and shooting into the air, Sam not far behind me. The wind blowing against my dried my tears off of my cheeks as I flew toward the glow of ambulance lights outside the building we’d started the night at. There were crowds of news crews, there were the senators we’d saved and officers cleaning up the wreckage that had been left behind. They all noticed as I flew up, landing in the midst of it all and scanning the crowd for Bucky. Once I spotted him and Walker towards the very back near the ambulances, I ignored the reporters asking me questions as I weaved through the chaos. Bucky strode forward as I neared and wrapped me in his arms, I let go of the breath I’d been holding in my chest as soon as our bodies met. He was okay. My hands held the back of his neck as I dug my face into his shoulder. He tapped my waist and I turned to see Sam flying in, resembling the an angel with his outstretched wings as he landed. He carefully passed off Karli’s body to the paramedics who placed the girl on a stretcher, carrying her off to who knows where.
Sam walked towards the crowd, doing the same as me and ignoring the reporters flooding him with unimportant questions. He had flown in carrying the dead body of a kid and here they were, asking him if they should refer to him as Captain Falcon. He stopped in front of the senators who were busy thanking him for dealing with what I heard one refer to as ‘terrorists.’
“Are you still going forward with resetting the borders?” Sam asked.
They answered, and while I couldn’t hear their words, I could read Sam’s face well enough to know it wasn’t what he wanted to hear.
“You have to stop calling them terrorists…” “What else would we call them?” one of the senators asked. “Your peacekeeping troops carrying weapons are forcing millions of people into settlements around the word, right?” Sam continued, “What do you think those people are going to call you? These labels, terrorists, refugees, thug. They’re often used to get around the question ‘why.’
“Those settlements that happened five years ago, do you think it is fair for governments to have to support them?” another senator asked. “Yes,” Sam said plainly.
“And the people who reappeared only to find someone else living in their family home, they just end up homeless?” the bearded senator pushed back, “Look, I get it. But you have no idea how complicated this situation is.”
Just as he prepared to walk away, Sam spoke up. “You know what, you’re right, and that’s a good thing. We finally have a common struggle now. Think about that. For once, all the people who’ve been begging and, I mean, literally begging for you to feel how hard any given day is, now you know. How did it feel to be helpless? Now if you can remember what it was like to be helpless and face a force so powerful, it could erase half the planet. You would know that you were about to have the exact same impact. This isn’t about easy decisions. Senator.”
“You just don’t understand,” the senator replied, probably the most ignorant response I’d ever heard.
Sam scoffed, “I’m a black man, carrying the stars and strips. What don’t I understand? Every time I pick this thing up, I know there are millions of people out there who are going to hate me for it. Even now, here. I feel it. The stares, the judgment, and there’s nothing I can do to change it. Yet I’m still here. No super serum. No blonde hair or blue eyes. The only power I have is that I believe we can do better.”
Holding onto Bucky a little tighter, the tears that I shed had morphed to those of joy. There my brother stood, in front of the government and the entire country saying what we all needed to hear. He spoke without reserve, unapologetic in his stance, and I had never been prouder of him.
“We can’t demand that people step up if we don’t meet them halfway,” Sam’s voice rose with passion, “Look, you control the banks. Shit, You can move borders. You can knock down a forest with an email. You can feed a million people with a phone call. But the question is, who’s in the room with you when you’re making those decisions? Hmm? Is it the people you’re gonna impact? Or is it just more people like you?” he paused, collecting himself before gesturing to where Karli’s body lay in the ambulance, “I mean, this girl died trying to stop you. And no one has stopped for one second to ask why. You’ve got to do better, Senator, you’ve got to step up because if you don’t, the next Karli will. And you don’t want to see 2.0. People believed in her cause so much that they helped her defy the strongest governments in the world. Why do you think that is? Look, you people have just as much power as an insane god,” Sam’s voice broke for only a second, “Or a misguided teenager. The question you have to ask yourself is how are you going to use it?”
With that, he walked away from the crowd that had been watching him so intently and made his way towards us. He stopped in front of Walker, the two of them sharing a look before nodding to one another, a non-verbal truce being declared. Walker also turned to me, in the end he had stepped up and done the right thing, but I knew that the two of us would never be on good terms. I’d never forget his tightening grip around my throat, nor would he forget that I wasn’t afraid of him and would tear him apart if he ever tried anything like he had in the warehouse again. But I had saved the guy’s life and because of that, his stare softened for only a second as he nodded his thanks to me. I watched as he disappeared into the crowd, off to whatever his next mission may be…
“Sorry, I was, uh, I was texting and so, all I heard was, um, “a black guy in stars and stripes,” Bucky broke the tension of the moment as Sam approached us.
The three of us shared a chuckle before Sam and I locked eyes, not having spoken a word yet about what had happened underground. I threw my arms around his neck as he wrapped his around my shoulders, sharing probably the best hug we’d ever had. Our shared goal of keeping one another alive had been achieved. “Love you,” I whispered in his ear. “Love you too,” he replied, a hint of emotion choking him up. He squeezed a little tighter before releasing me, the three of us walking off together.
“Nice job, Cap,” Bucky said, patting Sam’s back that displayed the shield before sliding his hand back around my waist. A few feet away, hidden behind one of the ambulances and leaned up against the car was a familiar blonde figure.
“Sharon?” Sam called.
“Blocking my light,” she retorted, holding a gauze pad to the gunshot wound on her abdomen. “We need to get you to a hospital,” I strode forward, examining her injury as best I could.
“She’s not gonna listen,” Bucky grumbled as he looked over his shoulder to make sure nobody was following us. Sharon panted as she shrugged, “Hey, it’s not the worst thing that’s happened to me all week.”
“Told you…” Bucky said at my side. “Yeah, I don’t care,” I shook my head, “We’re take care of this.” “Uh, Cap?” an interruption came, the senator that had been on the receiving end of most of Sam’s impassioned speech. “I think he’s talking to you,” Sharon said before turning to both Sam and I, “Look, I’m sorry for how things ended down there. For what it’s worth,” she looked Sam up and down and genuinely smiled, “Suit looks good on you.”
Sam chuckled, “Thanks.”
Bucky nodded along, humoring the conversation for as long as he could. “All right, look, can we get out of here, please?” he asked, placing a hand on Sharon’s back to urge her forward. Giving up, she allowed him to lead her away.
“I didn’t forget my promise,” Sam called to Sharon, referring to the pardon I hoped he could secure for her.
I turned to my brother, “Meet you back home?”
He gave a long sigh, his eyes flitting between Bucky’s departing figure and me, “Why don’t you stay here a couple days?” I knew what he was offering and how hard it was for him to say the words, he was trying to give me time with Bucky. I did my best to conceal my smile, “Are you sure?” “You risked your life all week, you almost died trying to protect us,” he stated with a scoff, “I think you deserve a little time off. Now go,” he looked back to Bucky and scrunched his face up a little, “Before I change my mind.” Unable to hide my grin any longer, I reached out and clasped hands with him, bringing each other in for another hug. “Go get ‘em, Cap.”
The two of us let each other go, off to tend to our business before eventually reuniting back in the house we’d grown up in. It was crazy to think that I owed almost every great thing in my life to the boy who’d sat next to the lonely girl in first grade. Now here we were, dressed in Vibranium off saving the world, or at least doing what we could to make it a better one.
——
“Superhero, nurse…you’re full of surprises, Y/l/n,” Sharon commented before sucking in a sharp breath as I placed another suture.
I laughed softly, concentrating on my work, “I took a first aid class a couple years ago. When you’re living with two boys, trust me, it comes in handy a little too often. But I’ve never had to remove a bullet.” We were seated on the floor of Bucky’s Brooklyn apartment with me tending to Sharon’s wound using his first aid kit. Bucky was waiting in his bedroom to give us privacy, Sharon had her shirt pulled up and her pants unbuttoned to give me full access to her stomach. I’d had to place sutures once when Sarah had accidentally sliced her finger open with a knife, pulling out a lodged bullet was entirely new to me.
“I saw you tonight, with the truck,” she said as she watched me work, “You did good.”
I supposed now that I had shown my powers to the world, I’d have to get used to people paying me compliments but for now, I still didn’t know how to take them. “So are you gonna stick with it? The hero thing?” Sharon asked.
I tied another suture, closing the sterilized hole in her abdomen. “I think so. Captain America needs a right hand man, why not have it be his sister?” Sharon hummed in agreement, a beat of silence passing. “You don’t think you’ll strike out on your own? You seem a little too independent to follow orders.” “Yeah, well,” I started working on the last stitch, “Sam and I work better together than I would with anyone else. Maybe one day I’ll do my own thing but for now, I’m fine where I’m at.” “Well, I guess you’re finally in a position to do all that good you said you wanted to,” she sighed, “Just don’t forget to keep your eyes open, opportunity’s everywhere.” “Alright, Miss Madripoor,” I chuckled, sterilizing the wound one more time with an alcohol wipe, “Your hustler side is showing.”
Sharon shrugged and gave a little smirk, “All I’m saying is there’s a lot of ways to effect change, but I’m sure you’ll find that out.” Storing her advice away in my head for a later time, I placed a gauze pad on her abdomen and secured it. “Alright, you should be good. Just promise me that you’ll actually get checked by an actual doctor or whatever you have in High Town?” “Sure thing, Doc,” she replied with a smile as she adjusted her clothes again and rose to her feet, “You’re good, Barnes!” Bucky stepped back out into the room, peering around the corner carefully before entering fully. Despite the fact that he was in his own apartment, he still hadn’t changed out of what he’d worn to the fight. “What happens now?” I asked, looking to Sharon, “Hotel? Hidden apartment in some dodgy part of the city?” Sharon chortled at my suggestions, “I’ve got a plane waiting to take me back to Madripoor. The longer I stay here, the more of a chance they’ll find me,” she gave a small smile, “It was good seeing you guys again.” “It won’t be the last,” I confirmed, placing a hand on her shoulder, “Sam’ll get that pardon, you’ll be back before you know it.” “That’d be nice,” she sighed longingly, clearly thinking about all the freedom that would come with coming back home. Coming back to the conversation, she patted my arm and regained her full voice, “But until then, keep them in check. God knows they need it.” “The hell does that mean?” Bucky grumbled from his position outside his bedroom, leaving Sharon and I to share a laugh before she walked to the front door. “I’ll do my best, and hey, thank you for what you did for me...” I called out just before she shot us one last knowing smile and left, the door shutting behind her. While I wanted to worry about her walking the streets of New York and possibly getting caught, I’d seen enough of her in action to know that she could handle whatever came her way.
Bucky slowly made his way to the door, locking it and turning around to face me. It was the first time of the night we’d been completely alone. Our eyes met, tired and traumatized but still alert and seeking one another out. Bucky crossed the room in a few long strides, taking his time in approaching me as if he was savoring the moment. I reached out once he was close enough and interlocked my hand with his, tugging him close to me. He dragged two featherlight fingers over the nasty bruise that Karli had given me, his brow furrowing as he examined the side of my face. I ran my thumb over the long red bruise across the side of his forehead, the pressure increasing when he leaned into my touch.
The night could have ended so differently. If Karli had pulled the trigger, if Bucky hadn’t fought on such high alert, we could have ended in tragedy. Such thoughts were better buried away and not thought of, but I couldn’t help it. Lucky, blessed, whatever word you wanted to use…we were it. With no battles on the horizon to fight, we could focus on figuring out just what spark there was between us.
No words needed to be spoken, not for now at least. Tonight, all I needed was to hold Bucky in my arms and remember that despite every odd and every trouble thrown our way, we were alive. And as he leaned down and pressed his lips to mine in a tender but still passionate kiss, I had never felt more alive.

haikyuu fic recs — the most beautiful, lovely, breathtaking masterlist (vol. I)
so i’ve been binging fics to cure my sadness, and i thought that these select masterpieces were too magnificent to not be plastered on every billboard ever. some tore my soul into shreds, while others melted said shreds back whole, but all of them made me feel some form of sheer, unadulterated love, so. please enjoy! 🥰⛅️✨
note: all of these fics are exquisite and you should read all of them, but if you’re short of time, those with ☆ are my all-time favourites!
daisuga
butterfly in the subway by bigspoonnoya ☆ | T
Sugawara Koushi has no idea he's already in love with the man he's supposed to hate.
i lovelovelove how all the concepts tied in together like a perfectly wrapped gift
also very wholesome, made me feel so inexplicably warm. like, love can exist everywhere!!! despite everything!!! that’s just so inspiring
i revisited this many times, i think it was (one of) my first haikyuu fics and honestly. it set the bar so high and i have no regrets
you’d fit my lonely arms so perfectly by boxofwonder ☆ | G
“Oh. You're. Not Asahi.”
Calmed down enough that he can speak again, Daichi takes a deep breath, his smile settling on his face easily and wide.
“Not as far as I know, no.”
-
Suga accidentally calls a stranger instead of his best friend, tells him all about his burned batch of cookies before realising, and that particular mistake might turn out the best one he ever made.
major, major fluff
the buildup!!!
god this made my yearning for love so much worse
the perfect stranger by downmoon | T
There’s a man standing outside Suga's door.
Scratch that. Start over.
There’s a man he doesn’t know standing outside his door, holding his sleeping nephew in one arm, with another kid clinging tightly to his free hand.
so domestic please read the entire series from start to finish it has my whole heart
shoyou and tobio as their actual kids 🥺
these two parents are so in love it makes me wanna cry
asanoya

Overworked, over-stressed programmer Azumane Asahi works on the top floor of a Shinjuku skyscraper. Nervous around his coworkers and terrified of the long drop on the other side of the window, Asahi falls into a miserable routine, only to have it broken one day by a simple message on the outside of the glass.
PLEASE. so well-written it makes my heart glow and ache simultaneously
made me ascend into asanoya heaven
such a brilliantly unique concept i love it A+

Asahi wants to be a Master Sommelier. It's the highest honor in wine service, and the certification would allow him to live the life he's always envisioned for himself. Too bad the certification test is notorious for being the world's most difficult.
Most people fail their first time taking the exam, and Asahi is no exception, but he has more difficulty than most dusting himself off and getting back on his feet. Enter Nishinoya, a young man who shares his same dream, and who believes in their goals so fiercely it forces Asahi to embark on a delicious and sensuous journey of viticulture and validation.
AKA The Wine Tasting AU that literally no one even knew to ask for.
NOTE: You Do Not Need to Know About Wine to Understand This Fic!
another super unique concept!!! (´∀`=)
my god their chemistry is amazing
the writing made me feel things ngl

After graduation, Asahi hides from the world and needs help from a few sources to find his way back.
i want to write sonnets and sing ballads for this fic, it’s that beautiful

“I never thought I’d see the day that I’d envy a human,” Oikawa admits, showering himself in tiny suns, because he can actually feels those, like a fusillade of warm kisses on luminous skin that leave marks. To humans, they’d be freckles. Skin stars, Oikawa calls them. He didn’t make that up, a human did.
“Who created the rule that we can’t touch, I wonder,” Iwaizumi ponders, floating heedlessly through space.
“Maybe it’s because we can fly. Humans dream of flying, right?”
“I don’t think so.”

Iwaizumi blinked his gaze over to Oikawa, "Last time was supposed to be a one time thing," he said, voice low, lacking some conviction.
Oikawa's lips twitched into a smirk and he brought them hovering just over Iwaizumi's, "One time thing, Two time thing, what's it matter as long as it's not a Relationship thing?"
yes.
in fact, this entire series (breaking the rules) features daisuga, kuroken, asanoya and it’s SO GOOD. every single one.
but anyway, character development!!!!! plot!!!!!!!!! writing!!!!!!!! i’m here for it all

Kei realizes in their second year of high school that he’s probably been in love with Yamaguchi since they were ten. However hopeless he might be in handling that situation, Kei prays he’s at least not as hopeless as Hinata and Kageyama. But he just might be.
SO BEAUTIFUL
i am also a sucker for anything with stars, moons and all the love in between
no words to describe this work of art please just go read it and be blessed

there’s a lilac tree in Kei’s backyard.

Cooking is hard. Even if you have your very attractive, very grumpy neighbor there to help you.

In which Hinata's lack of cooking skills are a danger to him and others. Luckily (or not), Kageyama is willing to teach him, if only for the sake of avoiding any burned down apartments.
the essence of their characters were captured so well and yet it’s like they’re completely new characters too? author, whoever you are, you totally owned this
this made me ship kagehina so hard
fluff! cuteness! lots and lots of cooing!

ahhh here it is. beautiful, heartbreaking, soul-emptying agony. you want angst? choke on this, and your tears later on.
no but seriously please read this if you haven’t you won’t regret it at all i promise
written from kenma’s perspective so you experience every depth and multitude of emotion he does and it’s so raw and- brb imma go cry for a sec

There’s a picture. Kenma blinks, looking at the little calico cat, being held up next to the face of a guy with stupidly messy hair and a crooked grin.
Cute.
The— the cat. The cat is cute.
Just the cat.
-
Kuroo starts spending a lot of time at the flower shop Kenma works at. Kenma definitely isn't into him.
okay so i like it when authors unravel a normally stoic character’s full scope of emotion and give them depth, sue me.
anyway, back on the fluff train!
i absolutely f*ck with flower symbolisms, cats and bitchy best friends who have dirt on each other. the layers of romance, friendship and everything in between is so prettily developed 10/10

In which Akaashi Keiji is an overworked accountant who stumbles upon Bokuto one night playing the piano in the lobby of his work. Bokuto is different, that much is obvious. But with such supreme musical talent and a smile so dazzling it rivals the sun, there's just something about him that brings Akaashi back every night.
this fic. this fic has my whole, broken, sobbing heart and laughing soul

Sleeping didn't come as easy as it used to. Bokuto knew this, and now Akaashi did, too.
The hospital AU that no body asked for, but that I took upon myself to write.
this is a famous fic that i doubt any seasoned haikyuu reader wouldn’t know, and RIGHTLY SO BECAUSE, the PAIN. the pain. the pain.
i could feel my lungs shrivel up and my chest cave in on itself. fatigue and rest are things i struggle with too so this whole story resonated with me from start to finish, and it broke me. in like, the best, most revitalising way
i would read this again but it still haunts me at night. i need to heal from the first time before i have the guts to try one more time HAHAHA 😆💔😭

Things get complicated when everything you thought you knew about a guy changes, and they get even more complicated when you actually start liking those changes.
That guy working with you AND becoming your neighbor? That's just a cherry on top of the cake of confusion.
this AU was refreshingly different, and amazingly so

The modelling world is full of hungry wolves, constantly clambering over the other, snarling and desperate. They fight, and they kill, trampling over anything in their path.
In this case, Akaashi fell in love with the wolves.
i did not expect this to be good, and it wasn’t. it was SPLENDID.
akaashi is so enamoured with them from the get go i love it
a tiny bit of angst that stabbed me in the heart, but the happy ending soothed it (thankfully, because if there wasn’t one i will sue)

Nothing matters anymore and he treats Bokuto like an obligation. Until he's not anymore.

Special thanks to everyone who’s reading me, i really appreciate it. Comments, complaints, the usual!
PS: Since i’m pretty new to the whole Tumblr thing, can anyone explain to me how am i suppose to do a ‘read more’ option on my post so people who doesn’t want to read it don’t have to scroll for so long? lol, i feel stupidddddd.
Enjoy!
Rating: 18+
Warnings: slow burn, foul language, flirting, sexual tension, drinking, brief mention of marital problems.
Inspired by the song False Alarm by Matoma and Becky Hills.

‘How about this one?’
‘You are not gonna get laid in this one, trust me.’ my friend tells me.
‘What if, and it might sound totally crazy, I don’t wanna get laid?’ I say, amused.
‘At a wedding? Bullshit.’
I laugh a bit and go back to my cabin to change again. I look at all the possibilities in front of me, pink puffy dress, green silk dress and a white dress. I scowl looking at the white dress. As if I would wear that to someone else’s wedding. I draw the curtains of the cabin, only in my underwear, and look at Alica.
‘I’m desperate. For the love of God, find me something.’ I whine.
‘Why do you care so much about this wedding anyway?’ she says as she browses through a bunch of dresses behind her.
‘David will be there.’
‘The guy who looks like a serial killer?’
‘He does not -’ I begin, walking towards her, ‘he’s a sweet guy.’
‘And he’s married.’ she states.
‘Yes, he is.’ I mutter.
After a long silence, she gently slaps me on my arm, ‘Oh my god! Are you serious? I thought you didn’t sleep with married men!’
‘I don’t!’ I defend myself, ‘I just – I don’t know. I wanna be smoking hot at Sean’s wedding and the fact that David is there might or might not have a direct link to my desperate search for the perfect dress. We might never know.’ I say with a bit of sarcasm.
‘Sweetie,’ she puts her hands on my shoulders, ‘I’m sure he’s a fantastic guy, but don’t get too hyped about him. You’re gonna get yourself hurt.’ she says in a gentle tone.
‘I -’ I stammer, ‘Look, it’s just a dumb crush. I’ll be over it after a new one-night stand.’
‘Are you sure?’ she questions me.
‘Sure. I mean, yeah, I’d climb this guy like a fucking tree -’
‘You’re unbelievable.’ she cuts me off.
‘Buuuuuut -’ I motion to her to let me finish, ‘I can’t, and I won’t. I honestly think David and I can be good friends. Whether you believe me or not, I really do think that.’ I reassure her.
‘I do believe you, but please, just be careful. I’m telling you this because I care about you.’ she says while putting a strand of my hair behind my ear.
‘I know and if you were in my shoes, I would be telling you the same thing.’ I smile at her.
‘I know.’ she smiles back.
I hesitate a few seconds, ‘So anyway, as I was saying: like a fucking tree -’ I joke and start laughing.
‘Oh my god!’ she throws a black dress at my face, ‘go try this one. Hopefully, it’ll help you get some.’
_
Car keys in hands, I lock my car and walk toward the ceremony. I put my keys in my purse and see I have a text message from Alica wishing me good luck for the evening and all. I text back a simple ‘Thanks, love you xx’ and I put in back in my purse. I stop in front of the door, and I observe my surroundings. I see a few faces I recognize, and they wave at me. I wave back and smile at them. This event won’t be that bad. I’ll probably run into lots of people I know – from the industry – that I haven’t seen in a long time. Good opportunity to catch up.
‘Wow! You look beautiful!’
I hear a familiar voice and turn around. I see Daniela – Melchior, aka Ratcatcher 2 – trotting towards me. She opens her arms; I do the same and we hug each other more tightly than I thought we would. I really do enjoy Daniela’s presence, but she lives in Portugal and only come to the USA from time to time for the pre-production of the film so I haven’t had the chance to get to know her as much as I would have liked.
‘I didn’t think you would be here!’ I say, surprised.
‘Me neither, but James convinced Warner Bros to pay for my plane ticket and told them it was work related.’ she says, excited.
I laugh, ‘Of course he did that.’
I’ve known James for years and I would’ve been surprised if he hadn’t arranged for Daniela to be here for his brother’s wedding. James is always like that; he wants to create a sense of family with his crew, and no one is left behind.
‘I’m so nervous.’ Daniela says quietly.
‘How come?’
‘I don’t know anyone here except for the Suicide Squad gang.’ she muttered, looking down.
‘Hey, gotta start somewhere, right?’ I gently put my hand under her chin, and I slowly raise her head. ‘don’t worry about anything, we got you.’ I wink at her, and a beautiful smile appears on her face.
‘Thanks.’
Daniela is, by far, the youngest of the group. She’s barely 23 years old, she’s from Portugal, English is not her first language, and The Suicide Squad is her first big international role. I remember the first time I saw her, she looked so intimidated being surrounded by all of us, but she’s learning so fast and I can’t wait to see what she’ll give us once we’re on set.
‘Let’s go, it’ll probably starts soon.’ I wrap a protective arm around her, and we walk through the front door.
_
‘I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!’ the priest exclaims.
Sean grabs Nathasha – now officially his wife – by her waist and they kiss each other passionately. Everyone stands up and applauds to congratulate the newly married couple. Daniela grabs my arm, all excited by Sean and Nathasha walking down the aisle. I look at them, a huge smile on my face, and something – someone – caught my attention in the background.
‘What are you looking at?’ Daniela questions me, ‘hey look, David is over there!’ she says pointing in his direction.
Oh, poor child, if only you knew. Everyone starts following the married couple down the aisle and Daniela gently grabs my hand so we can’t get separated. Walking through this crown of Sean and Nathasha’s friends, Daniela and I find the exit and get there just in time to see the newly married couple leaving the place to go to the reception. I smile as I look at the car disappearing from my sight, I turn around towards Daniela and I freeze, my smile slowly fading away.
‘What’s the matter?’ Daniela asks, worried.
She follows my gaze and sees what I was looking at. David walking towards us, hand in hand with his – I assume – his wife. He waves at us and Daniela waves back at him while I’m still not moving. This shouldn’t be a surprise really. It makes perfect sense that he’s at a wedding ceremony with his wife and – fucking hell – she's pretty.
‘Hi, I’m Evelyn!’ she says with enthusiasm.
And she seems so nice. And has a good vibe. And they look like a great couple. And – fuck – I feel horrible for all the thoughts I’ve had – and still have – about her husband in the last two months. Daniela, still holding my hand, looks between me and her a few times and squeezes my hand a bit as if she was comforting me. I can hear them make small talk about the wedding and all, but I’m not paying attention. I see David trying to catch my gaze, but every time I either look at Daniela or his wife. I feel like such a spoiled brat, I shouldn’t be affected that much by this. I don’t want to marry him goddamn it, I just wanna – but I won’t - have sex with him. It’s just an attraction. A deep, intense and consuming attraction, but still an attraction, nonetheless. Why am I like this?
‘Are you okay?’ Daniela asks, still worried.
I don’t answer as I look David and his wife walking towards their car, probably on their way to the ceremony. Daniela put her other hand on my back and hugs me a little.
‘I know what it feels like.’ she simply whispers close to my ear.
‘What do you mean?’ I mutter, getting back to reality.
‘I have been there before. It will be fine, trust me.’ she hugs me a bit tighter.
I turn my head towards her, and she gives me a warm smile.
‘Is it really that obvious?’
She laughs, ‘Come on, we have to go.’
Fuck, she knows.
_
Drink in hand, I’m on the dance floor with Daniela and we’re giving everything we have. Screaming the lyrics to the Icona Pop song ‘All Night’, she takes my free hand, and we start spinning, laughing and stumbling around. The last note of the song echoed on the dance floor, and I look at Daniela, out of breath.
‘How long have we been here? Jesus.’ I say catching my breath.
‘Long enough for this guy at the bar to completely undress you with his eyes.’ she subtly points me the direction with her chin.
I turn around to see the handsome stranger and I chuckle a bit. It’s no stranger, I know this guy. I look at Daniela as I finish my drink, I put it on the table next to us and I wink at her before leaving.
‘Hey Tom.’ I say seductively.
‘Good evening, gorgeous.’ He flirts back in his English accent.
Tom and I aren’t at our first ride together. We have history together, nothing serious really, but we do appreciate each other a lot. And he’s a good fuck, there I said it. For what feels like hours – who knows how long – we catch up, flirt, have a few drinks, hands wandering here and there. I feel myself getting more and more tipsy as the minute goes by. As Tom was whispering sweet nothings in my ear, something else caught my attention a bit far away. David and his wife, talking. They both move their hands a lot. Oh. I’m an idiot. They’re arguing. Not the ‘imma-scream-and-make-a-scene’ type of argument, but you can clearly see something is going on. After a few minutes, they both seem to have calm down. David put his hand on Evelyn’s hips and tries to kiss her, but she turns her head away, kissing her cheek instead. She gives him a weak smile and leaves. David sighs, rubs his forehead and walks towards the bar.
‘Tom, could you give me a moment, please? I think my friend’s not feeling good.’ I say, worried.
‘Of course, darling.’
I get up and finally realize that I’m a bit more drunk that I thought I was, but nothing too crazy. I’ve seen worse, way much worse. I stabilize myself and walk towards the other bar where David was sitting all by himself, leaning his forehead against the palm of his left hand as the other was mindlessly scrolling on his phone.
‘What is a handsome place like this doing in a man like you?’ I say, thinking I’m incredibly funny.
He turns around to look at me, a weak smile on his lips.
‘That was dumb as fuck, I’m sorry. Can -’ I sit down next to him, ‘can I buy you a drink or something?’
‘That’s very nice of you, but I don’t drink.’ He simply says.
‘Oh.’
I look around, a bit awkward. Even though there’s loud music playing permanently, it feels like there’s a heavy silence between us. I decide to stay right next to him and I start scrolling on my phone too.
‘You don’t have to do this, you know.’ He mutters.
‘Oh, I insist! S’cuse me, sir -’ the barman turns towards me, ‘can I have two glasses of water pretty please?’ the barman nods.
‘You’re unstoppable, aren’t you?’ Another weak smile appears on his lips.
‘Always. So -’ the barman puts down the glasses in front of us, ‘you wanna talk about it?’ I risk myself.
‘Not really, actually.’ He sighs.
‘It’s perfectly fine! So, hmm, ah yes! I watched this horror movie the other day, I’m sure you would have love it! There’s this girl, y’know? She slept with a guy she went on a movie date with. After their sexy time this asshole fucking drugs her with – what's it called – that liquid they use on washcloths in movie to make people fall asleep and kidnap them?’
‘Chloroform.’ He chuckles.
‘This! Yes! So anyway, she falls asleep and when she wakes up, she’s tied up on a chair! And then there’s this weird looking naked woman walking towards the girl and turns out this woman is actually a ghost now chasing the girl and the guy slept with her because you can pass this ghost curse through sex. Can you fucking believe that?’
‘I cannot believe it.’ He says, clearly amused.
‘Does it make sense? Should I stop? Sorry, I’ve been drinking tonight.’ I say, a bit embarrassed.
‘No, no! Please, tell me more.’
And I keep babbling about the movie It Follows and as I go, I realize that most of the things I say don’t make any sense at all, but as long as David keeps smiling and laughing, I’ll just keep going. At one point of the story, he bursts out laughing which makes me smile so much that my jaw is almost hurting.
‘There it is. That smile.’ I simply say.
Hu blushes, ‘Thanks.’
We look at each other for a few seconds and I motion him to drink water, which he does. I do the same and I almost choke on my water when I hear ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ by Olly Murs starts playing. I put down my glass and take David by the arm with enthusiasm.
‘That’s my song, come on David!’ I pull on his arm.
He laughs and I can feel him letting himself go. He follows me on the dance floor, and I start dancing, encouraging him. He looks around, with a small smile on his lips and he looks back at me, rubbing his neck with his hand. I reach out to him, and he grabs my hands. Laughing and moving around, we can’t stop looking at each other as we’re having the time of our life. I suddenly stop when I feel a hand – not David’s - on my shoulder.
‘I was looking everywhere for you, darling.’ he says slipping his hand down my back, ‘I’m Tom.’ he stares at my partner.
‘David.’ he simply answers.
‘I’m going back to my place, darling. Care to join me?’ he gets closer to me.
Still holding David’s hand, I look between him and Tom, unsure of myself. I glance at David who gives me a reassuring smile. I know he wouldn’t be mad at me. I mean, I do wanna get laid. But.
‘Sorry, Tom. I’m staying.’ I say confidently as I feel David’s hands gently squeezing mine.
‘Oh, I see.’ he bends towards me and kiss me on the temple, ‘call me, okay?’
I nod and watch him leave the place. I exhale deeply and turn back towards David who has a cheeky smile on his face. He rubs my hand a little bit with his thumbs, and he laughs.
‘Did I just cock-blocked you?’
‘I think you did.’ I laugh back.
He hesitates, ‘It’s not too late if you want to join him.’ he says looking in the direction Tom left.
‘No! I -’ I cut him off, ‘I’d rather stay here.’ I say under my breath.
He smiles, ‘Where were we?’ he starts dancing again.
_
Quoting our favorite movies, David and I are walking down my street. I would be lying if I said I was still drunk, I’m not. I haven’t had a drink since I went to see David at the bar, but I don’t feel like I need the effect of alcohol to enjoy myself right at this moment.
‘You didn’t have to walk me home, y’know?’ I shiver.
‘I know, but I wanted to.’ hey says as he wraps his jacket around my shoulders.
I blush and look down at my feet. We walk down the rest of the street in a comfortable silence and I’m here, wondering what would happen next if he wasn’t married. I push those thoughts away as I see my apartment complex in front of me.
‘Home sweet home.’ I sigh, not wanting this night to ever end.
‘Home sweet home, indeed.’ he replies, ‘look,’ he hesitates a few seconds, ‘thank you for tonight. I truly mean it.’ he says with a warm smile.
I feel my heart beating faster, ‘Anything for you, David.’
He looks down, bites his lips and looks back at me, ‘I forgot to tell you,’ he gets closer, ‘you looked lovely tonight.’ he gently takes back his jacket from my shoulders.
I catch my breath, ‘Thanks.’
‘Sweet dreams.’ he whispers.
‘Good night.’ I whisper back and he smiles.
He turns around and starts walking again. I look at him for a few seconds before I enter my apartment complex with a sigh of – I don’t know – frustration or relief, I wouldn’t be able to say which one.
‘Are you okay, miss?’ Alexander, the night shift lobbyist, asks me.
‘Yes, I’m fine.’
No, Alexander, I’m not fine. My core is throbbing, my heart is racing, and I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this fucking horny.

Chapter Three
Hiiii, all you cool cats and kittens 😂😂😂😂. Okay but seriously, imma just word vomit all the things I need to cover in this author’s note — that I can remember.
I’ve been writing this chapter for like a week, I’m super nervous about it, I’m really sorry if this angst is upsetting you, I am gonna do my best to make it all right in the end, the angst is gonna continue though for a bit longer, yes this fic is only 10 chapters, yes I still want your comments even if you’re upset, my eye is still having trouble so I can’t look at a computer screen for too long because it physically hurts so I’m editing on my phone and there is a high chance I’ll re-edit these chapters after my eye isn’t all Heltor Skeltor anymore.
Okay I think that’s everything, I very much am gratefully for all the feedback I’ve received and I hope you all continue to read this fic.
Peeta stayed for hours after that. He smiled and laughed and, for a while, made me forget all about my unbearable loneliness, how empty this home feels, how uncomfortable I am with the prospect of my mother moving on with her life, how much I really miss my sister right now.
How I miss my sister more than anything.
He still makes me feel safe, I realized, as we sat on the couch and ate our third helping of the chocolate cake he’d baked for me. He knows how much I love chocolate from all the meals we shared on the train.
“Actually, from the time you decided to just eat the chocolate fountain by itself,” he had corrected. Off my quizzical look, he added, “At Snow mansion? We were there for a party?”
“Our engagement party?” I amended, teasing him a little.
My attempt at levity works as I watch his mouth contort into smirk in response. “Sorry, I guess I forgot what party it was.”
“They did drag us to a lot of them,” I agreed, not foreseeing the jab he was about to throw.
“And you pigged out at every one of them.”
I pretended to be offended for a moment but his proud laughter made me lose the facade far sooner than I should have. The joyful glint to his gaze, the way his body language was relaxed and open, the way he seemed to remember small details of our shared past now, I just couldn’t hold even a false grudge against him. I just couldn’t help giggling alongside him.
But he had to leave around dinner time, having an appointment to get the construction for the new rebuilt bakery approved and in motion.
As soon as he departs, and I’m left once again inside a void, hallow house that only emphasizes the greatest loss of my life—the one I’ll probably never go a single day without feeling the ache of—I decide I need to leave too. I decide as soon as I glance around the empty place that it’d be in my best interest to get out as well, to prolong the inevitable despair the deserted home brings come nightfall.
My first thought is to drop off the liquor I picked up for Haymitch a few days ago at the train station. He was passed out drunk and I was already there and it seemed at the time like a good bargaining chip when he was feeling particularly caustic towards me. Which lately had been often.
Now it just poses a good excuse to go talk to the sour man, to perhaps pick his brain about Bailey Robyn. To perhaps see what he knows that I don’t about the mysterious girl who blew into both our lives.
And only evidently disturbed one of them.
He has clearly has gotten to know her better than I have, and he’s quite transparently taken quite a liking to her. If I want to know this girl, or even begin to understand what Peeta sees in her, it only makes sense to get Haymitch to share some details in exchange for his favorite liquor.
After all, our entire relationship has always been a series of bargains, one way or another.
Throughout mine and Peeta’s entire time together—which amounted to the whole afternoon—he had never once mentioned Bailey. He hadn’t said she was waiting for him or what she thought about the cake or if she even knew he would be at my house today.
And for some reason that led me to assume she was busy in town somewhere. That she was working on the salon she mentioned wanting to start up, that she was out doing things herself, that she wasn’t even concerned with Peeta celebrating my birthday today.
That she wasn’t sitting on Haymitch’s counter, talking to him about that very subject.
“It just doesn’t make me feel great, you know?” Her clear and high voice rings out from the window right as I’m gearing up to barge my way inside the pig sty. “I want to go with him, in case he has an episode or something, and he tells me no. Like flat out, full stop, no.”
I slip in through the unlocked front door, quiet as a mouse, eavesdropping like I know I shouldn’t. Like I know is a complete violation of privacy, both for Bailey and for Haymitch. And maybe even Peeta, since he’s the one they’re conferring about.
“He’s stubborn,” Haymitch agrees, sounding more sober than I’ve heard him in months. Sounding more sober than I’ve seen since we were in Thirteen. “Try mentoring him in the games.”
Bailey scoffs at that. “No. You couldn’t pay me enough.”
They share a laugh and I feel my hands tighten around the bottle, as an extremely uncomfortable sensation settles into the pit of my stomach.
They sound like old friends. They sound happy and pleased to be hanging out and conversing. And if I’m being honest, it gives me one more reason to instinctively dislike Bailey, despite the fact that I’m trying hard not to.
Because in the short time she’s been in Twelve, she’s slid into my place in both Peeta and Haymitch’s lives with complete and utter ease. Even beyond taking my place, she’s outrankedme in both men’s lives and entirely knocked me out of the saddle.
That’s what disturbs me above all else. Because—even though I’d never admit it about Haymitch—they were mine. They were my family. They were all I had. They were my haven from the darkness surrounding my entire life. The three of us were a team once.
And now it feels like she didn’t join the group, she kicked me out of it entirely. Haymitch has never had me sit on the counter of his kitchen—not that I really wanted to, the place is absolutely filthy—and talk about my problems. He’s always mocked my feelings and troubles, when they didn’t pertain to the war or rebellion.
I don’t get what is so special about this girl that the two most important people in my life are willing to just let her in. Are just willing to let her take me out without a second thought.
“I mean, is it odd that I wanted to be included?” She inquires genuinely and to my surprise, once again, my old mentor gives her a pretty thoughtful answer. For Haymitch Abernathy, at least.
“They’re both a little weird. War messes with people. Especially kids,” he murmurs and then grunts uncomfortably. “Don’t get worked up over nothing. Just let whatever happened go and try to be happy.”
For some reason, even without hearing my name mention specifically, I’m fully convinced that they’re conversing about me as well as Peeta. About our afternoon together, void from Bailey’s presence. Without hearing my own name, I still know in my bones I walked in on a talk about me.
Bailey wanted to come today and Peeta told her no? Peeta told her an unequivocal no? Because he wanted to spend time with just me?
That satisfies me beyond measure. That makes me even happier than the carefully handcrafted birthday cake did.
Suddenly, for the first time since she’s arrived in Twelve, I don’t feel like Peeta put me on the back burner to make her more comfortable. I don’t feel like I’m being slided so she can be accommodated to her liking. And that’s a better present to me than anything else I could have asked for.
“But I’m his girlfriend,” she states quietly, before sighing deeply and setting down a glass that she must have been drinking from. Risk-taker, she is. “And I just feel like every day all he thinks about is Katniss. He’s either worried about her or afraid of her.”
Now that catches me completely off-guard. Peeta’s afraid of me? Is he telling Bailey something I don’t know? What did I do that he’s so afraid of?
Please, I internally beg to no one. Please tell me he doesn’t still think of me as a mutt. Please tell me he doesn’t feel the same way about as he did in Thirteen.
No, I venomously refute. That wouldn’t make sense. If he still thought of me that way—the way Snow tried to brainwash him into—he would surely not be baking me a cake and spending an afternoon alone with me.
At least, I don’t think so.
But I’m always wrong nowadays and I long ago learned to stop trusting my instincts because they don’t any good for me in the end anyway and I just end up more jumbled and confused and stressed than I started out.
I take a deep breath to calm myself down just as Haymitch mutters, “That description isn’t a far cry from the kid I met two years ago on the tribute train.”
Evidently, I breathed out too loudly almost immediately, Haymitch barks out, “Is that you, girl?”
Realizing I’m caught, I rip off the bandaid and step out of the corner of the entryway, where I was hiding. “Sorry, I just got here,” I quickly explain. And then, despite my atrocious acting ability, I throw out for good measure, “I didn’t hear anything you guys said, I just didn’t want to interrupt.”
Neither of them believe me. In fact, they both appear pretty disgusted with me now. But when I pass Haymitch the bottle of liquor, his features shift and I feel him lightly pat me on the head as he passes me to grab a bottle opener.
“Haymitch,” Bailey murmurs unceremoniously, as she hops off the counter with a grace I have no dream of ever possessing. “I’m going to head on home.”
Her eyes meet mine for a split second before flirting away, and all I see there is irritation.
I hope she doesn’t try again to make nice in a day or so. Quite frankly, there’s a reason I never made many friends. Social interactions aren’t my thing and they just wear me out unnecessarily. Especially girls, who only want to gossip about other people or share clothes or irrelevant life tips. I’d much rather be left alone in solitude than have to yo-yo with Bailey’s mood swings.
Haymitch has always empathized with this trait of mine. More than empathized. He embodied it to the fullest, in a way I never even have. That’s what makes it so startling to me that he’s found such a friend with Peeta’s new girlfriend. It’s downright shocking how pleasant he is towards her.
When he returns now, she’s already gone and he’s right back to his surly self.
“No one clears a room like you do, sweetheart.”
But I’m not interested in swiping back and forth with one another. “Why are you hanging out with Bailey Robyn?”
Haymitch rolls his eyes as he takes a seat at his still unwashed kitchen table.
I mean, if Bailey wanted to help clean in here, that’s where I would have suggested to start.
“The better question, Katniss, is why are youhanging out with Peeta alone? How do you think that makes his girlfriend feel?”
“He’s my friend,” I argue, infuriated by the implication that I have to go through a random stranger to be around Peeta now. Infuriated that it’s Haymitch making the implication nonetheless.
“But he isn’t!” The old man snaps back. “Peeta isn’t your friend, Katniss. You look at him like he hung the moon and you do it right in front of his new girl.”
“No, I don’t,” I retort sharply, because I definitely don’tand I repel the accusation.
“Anyone with eyes can see your stupid little crush,” he exclaims and it stings. The words sting for some reason and I feel the ache in my chest come back once again, because apparently I’m stepping over a line I didn’t even know was there and I’m once again the root of every problem and it’s all becoming too much.
Evidently, Haymitch just doesn’t care if he hurts me today. “Just back off of the boy. Let him be happy for once.”
I uncharacteristically spit an unkind name at Haymitch as I slam his door in my furious wake.
Through his still open kitchen window though, I hear him chuckle. “Well, that’s one I haven’t heard before, sweetheart.”

One Spanish latte
Sirius Black x Reader
Summary - The one time where (Y/N) was soo naïve and got an internship, and that led to three roommates and that led to one love. (Muggle AU)
Warnings - None.
"Gods," I groaned, taking hold of my best friend - Angelina's arm, "It's so cold,"
"Yeah," she shivered, pulling her coat tighter, "but it's your fault, I told you to get a better jacket!"
"And I told you this is the best I have,"
"OK, you two," my other best friend - Lily intervened, "Look at Jane she is going to make a fool of herself"
We, ten 17-year-olds with two teachers had come to London for an internship at the Black Industries.
"Lily! She is not making a fool of herself she is making a fool of us all!" I exclaimed as I watched her catch fight with a group of boys whom she initially intended to flirt with.
"OK, imma head there and solve it, that's too embarrassing to watch," I said and the two girls beside me rolled their eyes.
I dived before Jane and a boy who was the most annoyed by her, he had shoulder-length luscious hair, sharp jaws, high cheekbones and striking grey eyes overall this guy was the definition of handsome. No wonder why she started to flirt.
"Um, uh," I coughed, breaking myself from the trance as well as what seems to be him too. I glanced at her best friend silently demanding her to contain her friend.
"Uh, I am really sorry for that," I managed to stutter out, feeling slightly intimidated.
"Well, just tell your friend not to do something like...this always," said a boy, with hazel eyes, messy raven black hair as if it could never be tamed and round glasses.
Feeling embarrassed I looked away before the grey-eyed boy who was still staring at me said, "It's alright, mate,"
He then outstretched his hand "My name is Sirius, nice meeting you,"
My eyes wide at his introduction, "Hello, uh, Sirius,"
He smirked, "And you are?" Not wanting to tell him my name, I find the situation rather too awkward for my comfort zone. Before I could answer him one of my teachers had called me, "(Y/N) come on fast!"
He smirked as I pursed my lips, throwing him one last glance, I rushed to the other side.
Tumblr media
That was 3 weeks before, now including both of my best friends and I had gotten the internship in the Black Industries, today was the last day our teachers and classmates would be here before they had to leave back home. With one final trip to the coffee shop, they were off to their home.
Once we had settled down in the far corner, the waiter had come to take our order. I was shocked would be an understatement when I saw the same handsome boy - Sirius - I had a run-in with. He had a smirk on his face as he saw my shocked face and asked for the order.
"And for you, ma'am?" He finally asked me, the smirk still present on his face; though he never took his eyes off the notepad I had a deep intuition that he knew I was staring.
"Uh, um," I cleared my throat, "one tall iced caramel macchiato,"
He noted looking back at me and winked, "Coming right back,"
He walked back with a slight jump in his steps and as he went behind the counter I could see him whispering to the bespectacled boy that I had seen other day and another one - tuft brown curls, warm hazel eyes, a scar running down his face and we could classify him as cute but definitely not my type.
A nudge to my arm woke me up from my trance, "What are you doing, (N/N)?" Angelina asked, a smirk in her face.
"Shut it," I grumbled.
"So where are your dorms?" One of my teachers asked.
"What?" I asked puzzled, "Dorms?"
"Yes, the Black Industries provide you dorms. But you said you didn't want it though,"
"What!?" I asked annoyed and angry, "I was never even informed about dorms!"
"Yes, we had informed you, giving a form for you to fill and you said you didn't want,"
I had a snicker from the other side of the table, "Jane!? You did it, didn't you!?"
She had a smirk on her face as I looked away exasperated, "Oh my goodness,"
I stood up, the anger shooting up to my head but Angelina knowing me better than myself pushed me away from the table and muttered, "Its OK. Don't give in, that's what she wants."
"Well, I have no roof over my head now and that because of her,"
"They won’t compensate for it now besides if you do anything now, you have a maximum chance of losing the internship,"
I groaned and walked to the counter trying to calm myself down and forget the fact I am basically homeless now, "Um, hey," I called out to Sirius who seemed to be the only other person there along with the cute boy.
His eyes widened, "Yes?"
"Can I change my order?"
"What? Uh yeah. What do u want?"
"One Spanish latte,"
"Hot or cold?"
"Hot,"
He passed the order to the guy next to him - Remus, after I had seen his badge - who had grumbled something under his breath and left inside.
"What happened?"
"Huh?"
"You know, you look kinda mad,"
I scoffed, "oh, do I now?"
"I mean," he shrugged, "You look hot when you're mad"
"Woah! That's a big step to take,"
He shrugged once again, "Anyways, is everything alright there?"
"Nah, I actually got an internship and they allot us dorms if we want and some random girl meddled in my business and now I am homeless,"
He chuckled and I glared at him. "Dude, it's not funny,"
He put his hands up in the air, mocking surrender, "You could share your friends' dorms,"
"No, their dorms are full," I groaned looking away, "These people, gods!"
"Um," Sirius glanced at the other boy (James - from the badge again) a conversation sparking with their eyes and then he slid a visiting card across the counter, "you can call that number, perhaps you can get a room,"
"Thanks," I looked at the card and then back at him, "Thank you very much,"
"Uh, if you don't mind me asking, where are you doing the internship?"
Taking the coffee in my hands, and shooting Remus a grateful look, I turned back to Sirius, "Black Industries"
His eyes widened and he choked on nothing while James had burst out laughing behind him.
Tumblr media
"This will be your room from now on and remember no exchange!" The house owner had warned strictly before rushing away.
Looking at the path he disappeared with wide eyes and a frown, I turned around fumbling in my bag trying to find the keys though before I could even fetch out my keys the door unlocked automatically...by someone in!
"Sirius!?" I exclaimed, staring at his "innocent" demeanor.
"You remember me!" He grinned, throwing an arm around me and dragging me inside the flat, "I am really sorry but you have to share a room with us,"
"First of all - Us!?! Is there more of you," I asked.
"Yes!" A chorus was heard, making me jump as I turned to see Remus and James.
"We live here too," said James.
Remus outstretched his hand waiting for me to shake it, "Welcome," he said calmly.
"What the hell!? Are you kidding me!? You lot could be criminals for all I know!"
Sirius gasped dramatically, "how can you!?" He moved to stand in front of me, his hands stretched beneath his chin, "do I look like a criminal?"
I couldn't help but let out a small giggle and nod, “but I still am not gonna stay with the three of you!”
“Oh come on!” Sirius said, as he moved behind me, taking hold of my shoulders as he whispered in the tone of villains trying to manipulate, “something is better than nothing,”
And lets just say he was good at that, “Fine, but promise me, no funny business,”
“We promise!”
Tumblr media
Did I know in the tiniest bit that we would become thick friends something similar to what I had between my best friends yet there was a small gap between Sirius and me; the relation between the two of us was different from that I shared with James and Remus, something that I couldn't identify, something that included longing stares, lots of forehead kisses, a huge variety of nicknames and hugs lasting longer than normal friends but I still didn't know Sirius' last name, he never allowed me to see it either.
"Love!" Sirius hollered from the kitchen, "(Y/N)! Come here fast!"
"Oh my gods! Yeah! C 'mere!" Remus's voice joined.
"What happened!?" I asked frantically, running into the room only to see the pan on the stove on fire, Sirius holding a jug of water and about to pour.
"No! Don't do it!"
It all happened in a slow-motion, he poured the water on the burning pan and the fire grew, hitting the ceiling and burning it.
"Oh, my gods!" I exclaimed, running a hand through my hair and rushing to the kitchen.
"Dude..." I breathed, turning to look at Sirius, "What the-?"
I chuckled, "You are useless at kitchen, idiot,"
I didn't notice how rapidly his smile slipped, and his breath quickened, what I noticed was however the way he sprinted to his room as if hiding something.
I stared after him not knowing what I did wrong, 'idiot' was something I used in a normal instance. I turned to look at Remus, my eyes blown wide, "Did I do something wrong?"
"Uh," he looked around confused, "You kinda did, but it's alright, I will take care,"
"What did I do wrong?" I asked, afraid I had made a grave mistake.
"No, nothing, actually," he said, quickly wrapping an arm around me and rushing back into Sirius' room.
Tumblr media
A week later things were back to normal (as normal as it could become) my friends were coming to our home. Yeah, that's what this was, my home.
A knock on the door alerted their arrival. I smirked at Remus, "She is here,"
Remus pursed his lips a light blush on his cheek, "shut up" he grumbled, walking to the door.
"Ooh," James cooed, "Eager are we?"
You see, Remus has quite developed a crush on my best friend Angelina but as everyone does, he denied it.
After the exchange of greetings and loads of chat later, we resigned to the couch in front of the TV with pizzas and cokes.
"What movie do you guys want?" I asked. The rest of the people in the room started going on with the suggestions, denying for almost everything until, "Fault in our stars," James, I scrunched my eyebrows looking at him before he glanced at Remus and Angelina. My mouth formed an 'o' shape as he grinned.
Squeezing the two of them together on the couch I sat next to Sirius who had an arm draped around the back of the couch which looked more like around my shoulder.
The movie - well, had gone...good. But the plan, it was sailing in the right path with such a speed. Within minutes into the movie, Remus's arm was around Angelina's shoulder, her head leaning on his shoulder.
I turned around to look at Sirius, who seemed to be watching the same scene beside me and as I turned our faces were so close my nose was almost touching his. He stared into my eyes, my breath quickened as we slowly leaned in before the door bell rang loudly startling the both of us and pulling away with bright red cheeks.
Sirius groaned lightly standing up and walking to the door and opening it. There was a courier at 11 PM. Sirius' eyes widened looking at the man before him and as I noticed closely it had the logo of the Black Industries.
"Mr Black," the man nodded as my breath hitched and Sirius shot me a worried glance before turning back to the courier, "Your mother asked to deliver this,"
Sirius' breath once again came ragged as he took the parcel in his hands and closed the door.
I stared at him dumbfounded as he looked back at me, his grey orbs holding an almost fear. I cocked my head to the side, "Mr Black?"
He looked away, fiddling with the parcel in his arms. With a few long strides, I was in front of him, "You are a Black?" I asked again.
He shook his head, "I was a Black," he chuckled without any humour in it, "I am disowned,"
My shoulders dropped. He was disowned. Repeated in my head. I had missed such a major part of his life. I took hold of his hand, gently guiding him to my room and shutting the door, not caring about how disrespectful it was to my friends but they would understand and this was way more important to me.
He sat on my bed, the parcel still in his hands. I moved to kneel before him, taking away the parcel and keeping it on the bedside table and encased his hands into mine, "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked gently.
Sirius' bottom lip quivered as he looked around my room, trying not to let the tears in his eyes fall. It broke my heart, the always cheerful Sirius was now looking so vulnerable. I let out a ragged breath, placing my hand on his cheek and swiping my thumb below his eyes.
"She disowned me, my sweet old mother. Said I was a disappointment, useless traitor, betrayed the family name for being friends with "common people" as she likes to call. I didn't make any mistakes. I just wanted to be free, I just wanted a family that will love me; not order me. I was scared, love, I was scared that if I told you, would start hating me or even worse...leave me an-and decide you don't wanna be friends with me."
By now tears were cascading his cheek like a waterfall and stung my eyes.
"No, no, no, Sirius, I would never leave you," I said, furiously wiping my tears and pulling him into my arms, "I could never leave you, Sirius, I swear. I love you,"
He pulled away, "Huh? You love me...?"
I nodded rapidly, placing a long kiss to his forehead, "I love you,"
He wiped his tears and beamed at me and chuckled excited, repeating, "You love me, she loves me," to himself. He repeated that so often that it was painful to even hear.
So, I smashed my lips against his, shutting him up and the force pushing both of us onto the bed. He kissed me back with the same amount of passion. Smoke and lemon mixing with strawberry and creating a new taste, sending us to a state of pure bliss.
I pulled away, still laying on top of him, both our lips swelled from the kiss and wide grins.
Sirius turned us around so that he was hovering above me, my hands on his chest and his forearms resting on the bed holding him upright. He tucked a strand of hair behind my ears, "I love you too," he muttered before crashing his lips onto mine once again.

Random JATP Headcannon: Reggie Pep-Talking Julie
Disclaimer: Hey y’all there’s a lotta negative self-talk and body image stuff in this long and chonky puppy (like a dachshund). Am I just simply projecting in this headcannon? Si señores, señoras, y señoritas ...umm chile anyway so... on to the angst and fluff.
Julie is a bad bitch.
And we love that for her. But every bad bitch has a few weaknesses. Like popping balloons or falling for a ghost who died in 1995 or being afraid that you are going to lose everyone you’ve ever cared about. But there are days when Julie’s biggest weakness is her body. Then again Julie loves her body, she loves how her hair curls and how it frames her, and even though it can be a pain in the ass, she loves it. She also loves her smile and the gap between her teeth and how musical her laugh is. She loves how she can pull off a blazer and a dress and how her eyes sparkle in the sun. She loves how clear her skin is and her brows and her height and everything but some days she doesn't. But some days she looks in the mirror and cringes at what she sees.
Ha, it's funny to think that I can pull this off.
I'm too much of this and not enough that.
I don't really love how I look in this.
Maybe I should just change
These thoughts often seem to be swirling around in Julie's brain. But sadly those aren't the worse thoughts she has that award goes to thoughts like:
Luke would never fall for a lifer like you.
and
He’s way too good for you. Maybe you'll have better luck if you're prettier
Julie sighs flattening her crop top grabbing her sides before quickly opting to change into a longer looser shirt. She grabbed her phone from her nightstand shooting a text to Flynn.

Julie grabs an old Orphuem hoodie that belonged to her mom, slipping it on noticing how she still hasn’t quite grown into it. Walking past her mirror one more time Julie scrunches her nose not appreciating how her tight jeans look on her. In fact, she doesn’t like how her nose looks today.
Fuck I hate when I feel like this. Maybe Flynn is right. I should probably talk to Alex and at least try to avoid Luke. He doesn’t need to see me like this.
Sighing, she makes her way over to the garage. She opens the door only to see Reggie intensely focused on playing the riff he was working on for their new song.
“Is Luke around? I need to snatch up Alex, but I don’t want him to see me and worry,” she asked, starting to giggle when he snapped out of his trace as a small yelp left his lip.
Reggie spotted Julie’s Orpheum hoodie not noticing how much his eyes widened.
Julie cocks her head at the gaping Reginald before realizing he was staring at her hoodie. “It was my mom’s,” Julie whispered as Reggie nodded along, “she used to work there in college. Mom and her best friend, my Tia Maria were waitresses there. But I’m getting distracted, is Alex here? I just really need to talk to him and his dumb emotional availability.”
“Well, it’s Alex and Willie’s 6-month anniversary, so I hope he’s not around here. But he’s like at the beach with Willie being all mushy.”
“Oh wow, they’re so cute together! He’s definitely seemed so happy since he met him,” Julie said, truly proud of her drummer but not completely masking her disappointment of not having anyone to talk to.
“Yeah, he's more free now. Plus it gives me and Luke the opportunity to rag on him on how easily he flushes when Willie teases him. But you don’t need to worry about lover boy or your lover boy,” he says while waggling his eyebrows at her.
Julie sadly laughs trying to hide her face from the boy. As Reggie seemingly oblivious continued “Luke is at his parents. He’s been going more often trying to find sneaky ways to leave his song. Some unpublished songs Julie. He has never done anything like that since you went to his parent’s house with him. The closure is cathartic for him,” he whispered, putting down his bass. “He loves seeing his mom’s face light up when she finds another song. But you seem down Julie, what’s wrong?”
“Oh it’s nothing Reggie don’t worry about it,” Reggie cocks an eyebrow at her with a concerned look on his face. Julie looked away sighing, putting on her hood before continuing on, “I’m just a little under the weather and just needed someone to talk to, but it’s fine. I’ll be fine. I will be fine in a few hours. But don’t worry, and please don’t tell Luke.”
“Well Julie you can talk to me,” Reggie pauses puts down his bass putting his hands behind his head, legs cross, frowning slightly, “Believe it or not I can be a little insightful but seriously Julie you’re like my little sister and I hate to see you like this.”
Reggie taps on the spot on the couch next to him motioning for Julie to sit down.
“I’m not going to force you to tell me anything but if you need someone to talk I here when you are ready,” And with that, Reggie picked up his bass and started to work on what seems like a new song.
Together they sit in this calming silence as Reggie starts to pluck away at this melody taking notes of what chord progressions work and what doesn’t while Julie quietly points at chords. This goes on for about five minutes until Julie finally says something.
“Fine okay you need to promise me that you won’t tell Luke because he’ll try and fix this, and he’ll probably make me feel worse,” Reggie quickly nods before putting his fist out giving her a promise fist bump. Julie wetly laughs at this before taking her hood off, running her hands through her hair.
“You know for years I’ve waked up and then immediately looked in the mirror and some days I loved what I see those days are good. I love how I look and how I feel, and I’m just happy. But some days I don’t... some days I look in the mirror and I just see every single flaw I have, and I just want to hide in my bed and not let anyone see me. Some days I feel like I don’t deserve you or Luke or Alex or Flynn or even my family. I just look into the mirror, and I’m like why would anyone stand to look at me. And you know today is one of those days. When Mami was alive she would call a day like today a BBD. It was a code for bad body day or day when we would just wear matching hoodies, cuddle, and binged movies without telling Dad what was wrong. But he understood, he understood that Mami would take care of it and that she understood what I was going through. We did it so often until she you know... that I don’t know how to tell my dad about it. Like him making me hot chocolate like he used to won’t make going away,”  Julie sighed wiping the quickly forming tears from her eyes. Julie turned away from the concerned, so he couldn’t see how close she is to completely breaking down.
Reggie wrap his fettuccine arms around Julie pulling her into a warm hug that smelled like the lemon-lavender bath and body works body wash she bought him for the shower in the garage. The was comforting which led to Julie letting her guard down, shoulders shaking as she heavily sobbed into her undead friend’s shoulder as he rubbed her back. After she was seemingly cried out she looked up at Reggie, who looked wide eyed at her.
“I’m sorry I snotted all over your flannel. God that’s so disgusting. I’m just going to go to bed and just mope and watch Netflix. Thank for being a shoulder I could lean on. I’m sorry that I was just being annoying,” Julie whispered as she tried to wipe away the snot only to make a bigger mess.
"Hey hey hey it's okay Julie I can just wash it or like blame it on ghost ectoplasm. Julie do we leak ectoplasm?"
Julie laughed wetly as Reggie frantically looked to see if he was oozing before realizing that he was getting distracted. She quickly noticed the major shift in demeanor change as he seriously looked at her.
"Julie you are beautiful and I know that you don't feel like that now but you will eventually. And I know that you don't want me to fix you and I won't because I can't. And I know you might want to try to impress Luke with how you look or just think that your looks are all that Luke that think about, but I am his best friend and I know that he would be head over fucking heels gone for you. Even if you look like whatever a Jar-Jar looks like he would see you as the light of his world. He is in love with you and your soul and you deserve that love. But you deserve self love even more. Julie you are not a thing to be looked at then judged. You are a person with feelings and  personality and a story, a story to tell. Your body looks the way it does because of all the things you've experienced in life. Julie I know this all may sound meaningless coming from me but you are literally one of the strongest people I know and I know you can through. You will not be less strong if you reach out for help. You might be my favorite Molina but talking to Ray is smarter than you think and he can help. I just hate seeing my sister hurt like this," Reggie said before yelping as he noticed that Julie had started to bawl again.
"Wait Julie no I'm sorry. Was that too much. God I know you said I shouldn't try to fix things. I should've kept my dumb mouth closed and not bring up Ray. I'm sorry Julie don't cry," Reggie rambled nervously rubbing her back
“No no no no Reggie you didn’t say too much. You just shocked me honestly but like in a good way. I mean I can’t say that I will believe everything you said. But thank you Reg. Thank you I am so glad that you are in my life. You’re my favorite Peters and you are much smarter than other people give you credit for,” Julie says laughing at Reggie’s bright smile.
“I mean need them to underestimate me sometimes. But let’s watch something together to at least make your BBD a little better.”
Julie smilies quickly nodding before putting on the first episode of the Mandalorian and snuggling close to the older brother that she never had.
Julie felt okay to say the least for the next couple of weeks her next BBD hit her. Julie sighed pushing herself off the bed looking in the mirror that is covered in encouraging notes from her Dad, Reggie, and Flynn. She sighed about to leave her room to go talk to her Dad again about what was going on before she notice a hoodie on the bed. It was a fleece lined hoodie that was left on her bed folded her bed saying ‘Uke I’m your father’ on it.
Reggie Julie sighed shaking her head smiling as she picked up the little note that was left with it
‘I knew that you said that you and mom had matching hoodies for your BBD’s so here’s one that we can wear together. I mean only if you want to I know it was something you and your mom did so I don’t want to butt in on a tradition. But it could be like a signal that you’re having a BBD. I don’t know it might be stupid but I hope you like it.’
Julie smiles at the slight awkwardness of the note before slipping on the hoodie

The Black Sails
This is my first story and I hope yall like it! @sitting-around-and-fantasizing wanted a tag so here ya go!
I changed the title, just note that this has nothing to do with the tv show i just thought it was a cool name lmao :P
Word count - 1217
Summary -
Certain people get jewelry that gives them magic. Each person has their own specific power that causes them to gain different abilities. When Ivory becomes queen of her kingdom she starts a war with everyone else. This is the Story of the Hero's of Old fighting against the Kingdom of Darkness.
“DAD! MUM!” the 9-year-old screams, “I DON'T WANT TO GO TO SLEEP”
“UGH! Can you shut up!” his brother shouts, throwing a pillow at him, “Just go to bed!”
“MUM!!!”
“Hey, you two calm down,” their mother says walking into the bedroom. “How about I tell you a story, and then you lay down and go to sleep, deal?”
“But Mum! I’m 16! I’ve read almost every story in the fairytale book, either you have read them to me or I read them myself.”
“It's a good thing that this isn't a story from the book then.” She says while looking at the full moon, “This is a story about The Dark War and the Heros that ended it. Unless you don't want to hear about them, I could just leave and go…”
“NO!!” They shout
“MUM!! TELL ME ABOUT THEM I WANNA BE A HERO AS WELL!!”
“Ok, I will tell you two,” she states while picking up the younger of the two boys, “But only if you promise to go to sleep after, got it?”
“Ok Mum!”
“So two years ago Princess Ivory took over her kingdom, changing it from what was once a beautiful kingdom filled with people dancing and festivities, to the Kingdom of Darkness…”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“There are too many people taking advantage of our kingdom!” she screamed at her advisors, “They have no idea the challenges we do to keep them safe! They flood the streets and make constant noise! I give them my protection and in return, they give me these STUPID GIFTS!! I say instead of showing them kindness, and giving the other kingdoms our resources, we do the opposite… we show them just how powerful we truly are.”
“My Queen, are you sure about this?” Ivory's advisor warns, “If we do this, it could end badly for everyone.”
“I am positive. These other kingdoms are nothing without our protection. Get the soldiers. We are going to war.”
“On it, my Queen.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“We need to do something… Her army is approaching, we know how to wield magic and fight without it, we can try to fight against them”
“What about the kids though?” If we do this, my angel, they could be put in danger.”
“We haven't shown anyone our magic, you can shift and I have my wings. We could keep our identities secret and leave to fight at night. If we don't do anything, they could get hurt more.”
“You’re right. But we can't do this alone, we must find more people. You stay here, and I'll fly and check the other kingdoms for fighters. I should be back by next week, if I’m not, something bad has happened to me.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So who did you say you were again?” the pink-haired man asked while bandaging his wounds from the fight.
“You can call me Lady Death. I am here to recruit you to help join me and my angel in the fight against Ivory and her kingdom.”
“Well, Death, I am perfectly content with how I am now. I don't need you or Angel. None of us do. Hypixel is a place with lots of skilled fighters now I’m sure you know this, but what you don't know is that almost everyone here is willing to fight you and take your circlet and figure out just who you are. Luckily for you, I’m interested, and they won't try to attack you with me on your team.”
“Really? I thought it would take more persuading than that?”
“Yea well Simons been bugging me for ages, saying ‘you need to get out more’ and ‘you need to take the dark kingdom more seriously', so why not help ya out. Call me Blade. It's a pleasure to work with you and Angel.”
“Hey Blade!” another fighter shows up, “Oh my bad, didn't know you were talking to someone. I came to ask if you wanted to fight, but I'll come back in a bit.”
“Wait, Shooter! Do you wanna join me, Death, and Angel? Were gonna stop the dark kingdom nerds.”
“Yeah sure, lemme get a couple of things first. I’ll probably bring GB as well.”
“Ok Shooter, Blade, bring GB and meet me at the fountain tomorrow, we will then head to the base.” Lady Death then turned into her crow form and flew away.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey, shithead, have you heard about the revolutionaries?”
“Can you stop swearing in front of our brother...”
“He's asleep, Cap. He can't hear us.”
“.... You called me Cap… You haven't called me that since we were pirates… Oh, god, you're thinking about joining the revolutionaries, aren't you?”
“You know me so well Cap! I think it's time we show that dumb queen that The Captains mean business!”
“What about-”
“We can let Dream take care of him while we are gone. It wouldn't be the first time, he would understand.”
“Ugh… There is no stopping you, I’m coming along to make sure you don't do anything dumb.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Hello! I am Lady Death, and I would like to say thank you all for showing up here today. When me and Angel planned for this, we honestly expected it to be just us and Blade, but thank you for comping.” She then sits back down by Angel, glad that everything is working out.
“Hey Death, me and Shooter have worked on some battle plans, but imma need to know what people's strengths and weaknesses are, so we can figure out where to place people. I already know about the Captains & GB, but I don't know anything else.”
“Well Blade, I'm Eret, and this is Bomb. Our strengths are…”
The hero’s spent months planning, some staying up full nights to try to get a plan figured out, all whilst battle raged through the towns. Eventually, after around a year of planning and trial and error, the heroes were able to gain a plan that was able to take down Ivory.
The plan consisted of GB, Shooter, & Bomb working to take care of the guards on the left. While the guard’s flood to protect the left side, the Captains are sent up to take down the communications tower. Eret and Death would then head to the prisons to break out everyone who Ivory arrested. Letting Blade and Angel fly to the top of the castle to fight the Queen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“Give it up Ivory” Blade snarls, “You lost.”
“I would rather die than surrender.”
“Just kill her. She is not worth our mercy anyways Blade.”
“You got it, Angel.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Once Blade killed the queen, the people in the kingdom were set free, some were angry, but most were happy that people were able to travel freely. Although Lady Death, Angel, Blade, Bomb, Shooter, The Captains, and GB were never seen again, it is said in times of need one would see Death as a crow and The Heroes of Old would follow her to fight for the people once again.” closing the book the mother looked up, “Goodnight boys, sleep well.”
After looking once more at her sleeping children, she whispers to the moon, “That's incorrect… Blade would lead first. He is the one with my circlet and Angels brooch.” As Lady Death went to sleep, she missed the sirens, signaling to the people that the Smp Kingdom was under attack.

Overhaul’s waiting list: @jjk-biased @infinite-universe-love @dirtypride @blackymomo03 @azzie @purple-rabanito
Tumblr media
“I’m sorry but Endeavor’s schedule is still full. If you’d like to set a meeting with him, it would have to wait till next week.” Burnin answered over the phone.
It was now 2 days since the rather nice date with the chief. You could’ve done this yesterday but the chief had insisted you take the day off. Not sure what his intentions were, you took the opportunity nonetheless. Spending it with your family was the best choice. (Mostly for Nomura’s cooking though...)
Now, you were nested in your cubicle. Face buried in a day’s pile of delayed work. Disappointed that the arson case would have to be moved once more. Maybe the HPSC would take interest in this? Probably not. Still, you wrote down a note to call Mera just in case you were sick and tired of the dead ends.
“In that case, schedule me a 20 minute meeting with him. You can choose when and what time.” You replied and ended the call.
Looking at the time, it was almost lunch and you were set to meet with Gei. His workplace was only 10 minutes from your area and you could afford to take your time knowing this day wasn’t as heavy as the rest. Your phone dinged with a notification from the man himself.
Gei is the Best: Honey boo boo. Is it alright if you drop by the hospital first? I have this patient that just WON'T sit still for the love Beyonce >:(
You: Sure :) Need me to lower his BP? That might do the trick.
Gei is the Best: YAS! YOU DA BEST. Imma inform the receptionist. See you in a few! Lunch is on me <3
Taking your things, you informed Tsukauchi that you’d be out for the rest of the day. Upon hearing Gei’s name, he chuckled and asked for you to wait. Opening his desk drawer, he handed you a sealed envelope and told you to hand it to him.
“What’s this?”
“It’s some pictures of a recent guy I caught. He might find the man’s composition interesting. His quirk was body manipulation. It somehow failed and his quirk backfired on him. Try to imagine a human pretzel except… you can’t untangle him.” Tsukauchi explained. The slight look of amused disgust on his face.
“He does find these things interesting. So you’ll be asking him to fix the guy?”
“Yeah. Called him a while ago so he’ll be expecting that.”
After a few more small talk, you excused yourself and made your way to your car. Everything was going well till you saw the chief talking with another officer. Not wanting to have a chat with him, you turned and took the long way towards the parking area.
Now that you were on the road, you stopped at a red light and wore your ear piece. Using your car’s touch screen monitor, you clicked on Overhaul’s contact. It was lunch time, he surely didn’t have any schemes at this time.
“Problem child.” He answered after the second ring.
“Birdman.” You smiled at the pet names. “When are you free to test the earpiece?”
“Unfortunately my schedule is full today. Would tomorrow work?”
“Sure. What time are you available?”
“Lunch will do. Drop by the Shie Hassaikai. We can eat together.”
You did not intend to but your foot stepped on the brakes. Did you just hear him right? The car behind you honked his horn and that made you snap out of your daze. Remembering that he was still on the other line, you shook your head and tried to contain your curiosity.
“You’re not going to kidnap me, are you?”
“I’m more than capable of doing so.” The slight rise of his tone made your stomach feel ticklish. Your hands now held tightly on to the steering wheel, waiting for his next words. “But I’d rather not.”
“(favorite food). And you have a deal.” You turned towards the nearing hospital. Your mouth silently repeated ‘oh my god’ till you saw a parking spot.
“Till then, Problem child.”
When the call ended, you slammed on the brakes once more and shrieked. Feeling your blood pressure rising from the conversation, you placed your hand on your chest. A faint blue glow forming on your palms. Your rapid beating heart and incoming hyperventilation died down.
“Holy shit. It’s been a while since I used that on myself.”
Stepping out of the car, you walked towards the entrance of the hospital. The guard grinned as he saw you approaching. He knew who you were so you were able to skip the log book. Passing by the receptionist, she greeted you and said Gei was waiting in his office.
In the hallway, you could hear the sounds of shoes running around and a few announcements every now and then. Stopping at a window, you observed a few nurses helping some patients. Most of them had tubes connected to their bodies but none of them looked to be in pain. The machines inside were white and you could see how the liquids were gently shaking.
“OH MY LORD!” You turned around and looked at the direction of the scream. “WILL YOU SIT STILL?! I SWEAR TO THE ALMIGHTY FATHER JAY-Z, IF YOU DO NOT SIT STILL I WILL HAVE TO USE THIS ON YOU!”
Running towards his office, you immediately opened the door only to find Gei in his white coat. His hair a shriveled mess, a syringe with clear white liquid, and the patient hiding behind the sofa.
“Gei?”
“Close the door baby girl!” He yelled and lunged towards the patient. Somehow he was able to grab a hold of the hospital gown. Tugging the male into his hold, he turned to face you. “Your quirk please!”
Not wanting to anger Gei, you hurriedly made your way to the two people. Placing your hand on to the male’s chest, both of you saw how his shoulders relaxed. The crazed demeanor was now replaced with one of calm. You felt a tug on your palm and quickly adjusting your control, you increased his blood pressure till he was deemed stable.
You and Gei led the man to the sofa to where he sat down. Keeping your hand on his chest, you maintained control as Gei did his usual magic. Now that you were able to assess the patient, you saw the dislocation his arm had. His sleeves had hidden it from sight.
Watching as your friend used his quirk, the dislocation began to fix itself till it was finally back to normal.
“Now that that’s over with, put him to sleep boo.” Gei said while he walked towards his desk and paged a nurse to come get the patient.
Lowering the blood pressure even more, you felt the patient losing his consciousness. When his head fell, you had finished your job. Making him lean onto the sofa, you closed his eyelids and observed his breathing. It was steady and even. Not long after, a soft snore erupted from the sleeping man.
“What exactly just happened?”
“The way his arm was dislocated made it rather painful. Told him if he would relax, I could ease the pain by a tiny bit. Lord of quirks, the man panicked and began his episode.” Gei explained as he fixed his coat and poured alcohol into his palms. When the nurse arrived, he assisted in carrying the patient into the bed.
“Busy day?” You relaxed on to the chair and held a throw pillow.
“Oh honey no. Nothing I can’t handle. Your presence only made things quicker.” He exaggerated a wink. “Remind me why you didn’t pursue the medical world?”
“I retain information badly. And to top it off, my quirk just makes me into a human sphygmomanometer. It’s helpful but it works better with the police force in times of raids.”
“Well, if yo happy with yo job then do what you do boo.” Taking his coat off, he hung it on his chair and began to keep the files and paper works. Remembering the file in your bag, you reached for it and tossed it onto his table. When Gei saw the penmanship, he nodded and placed it in his drawer. “Send him my thanks and a hug as well~”
Now that Gei was ready, the both of you were now walking in the lobby. A bunch of other nurses greeted him with his hard earned title. Doctor.
“Dr. Hanayaka. Don’t forget your appointment with patient 247 later today.”
“Yes yes. I have it on my sched. Now puh-leaz! I am on break and I need to refresh my beauty with this lady over here.” He winked at the nurse who simply shook her head with amusement. “Go do your thing now, love.”
“It’s amazing how they put up with you.” You commented as both of you exited the building.
“Of course~ I have the charm, the look, and the wits.” He snapped his finger with each description he had for himself. “All I need now is a man.”
Unlocking your car, the both of you got in and drove to the restaurant he had in mind. It wasn’t too far from both your offices so you didn’t mind. It didn’t take too long before you found yourself seated in a comfortable booth by the window with menus in hand. Choosing one of their best sellers, the waitress was quick to get your orders.
“So… how was the date two nights ago?” Gei was in full gossip mode now.
“It ended pretty well.” A smirk formed on your face.Recalling how the chief experienced a bad stomach ache was satisfying. “The food was fine and luckily he didn’t cause a scene since his food made his stomach go bad.”
“Who was he anyway?” He titled his head. He knew you were too busy to even casually date or even try one of those speed dating things. If there was one man he knew you were interested in but it was too obvious you were still blind that the feelings were growing. “You never told me his name, never mentioned how you met, or even his age. Did you meet in Sinder?”
“Don’t freak out or whatever.” Upon seeing him nodding his head, you let out a long and tired sigh. “It’s my chief.”
Gei held on to his chest and began to hyperventilate. His face morphed into one with disgust and disbelief. Even made fake puking sounds to add to his reaction.
“Oh. Heyll. No.” His voice went a range higher. “Sis. Why the hell you go out with that man? You ain’t got no daddy issues! And don’t go tellin’ me no man would take interest in you cause thaz bullshit.”
“It was either that or I get 10 more cases. I already have too much on my hands. Two of which are major.” You explained and sunk deeper onto the chair. “It’s fine, though. The dinner ended on a nice note. His stomach ache was just so bad that he practically pushed me out of his car.”
Gei’s mind went ticking. The chief asks you out on a date, the date ends on a disaster for him but a success for you. Staring at your happy face, he lifted his fleek eyebrow and placed one knee on top of the other. Leaning onto the arm rest and pouting.
“Tell me, baby girl, whatdyu the day before the date?”
“Me and the chief met up with Overhaul for a quick meeting. Then he got mad cause the chief cut me off and then he dropped me home to let me take a shower cause he said I smelled like him.”
“And what does your brain have to say about that?” Gei asked. A sly smile on his face.
“Not much.” You shrugged your shoulders. “He was right, though. I smelled like beetroots.”
“Oh good lord.” Gei uttered to himself. “Beyonce, if you’re out there, bless this oblivious woman…”
“BUT, the waiter at the restaurant was pretty attractive.” Seeing how Gei shimmied his shoulders and leaned in closer was always fun. “I didn’t get his name, though. However, he had pretty cool hair. Like, arrows for the ends.”
“In that case, imma make a reservation.” He smacked his lips just in time for the food to be served.
The rest of the meal was light and fun. Occasional teasing from him which you didn’t take to heart. You had asked him how his job was and his patients, he in turn asked for updates about cases you could speak freely about in public. Now that the food was gone, he reached for his neon pink wallet to hand over the payment.
“By the way, I’m free tomorrow.” He added with a slight jump. “Wanna stop by this new cafe that opened down the block?”
“I can't. I'm meeting Overhaul tomorrow.”
“You say that so casually as if he isn’t a class-B villain.” He pointed out. “Look me straight in the eye and tell me your heart doesn’t skip a beat when you see him.”
And you did. Straight up told him that it did not. However, you still told him that he would sometimes catch you off guard and end up stuttering or catching your breath. All you’re flamboyant friend could do was to send a prayer to his queen that you would one day realize that you were slowly falling for the villain.
Lucky for him, his prayers would be answered soon enough.
Sadly, it came with a cost.

MY THOUGHTS ON iDKHOW'S ALBUM DEBUT: RAZZMATAZZ
So I DON'T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME have just released RAZZMATAZZ today and heres what I think...
[SIDE A]
¹LEAVE ME ALONE:
A bombastic opening track. Was released in the beginning of August...? Probably? This song just SCREAMS at you with retro futuristic funkiness. It has 8-bity flourishes in the instrumentation and seems to be maybe talking to the same person as Choke (from 1981 E.P.) and the title track Razzmatazz have been (or maybe a separate entity as suggested by the vinyl booklet and Indoctoration?).
Tumblr media
Anyway, fantastic track, great opener, and nice mood-setter.
<><><><>
²INDOCTORATION:
It's... eerie. It's not a song in the same sense as Leave Me Alone, despite having a wobbly backing track. It's a spoken interlude that seems to be initiating you into Tellex maybe? It yet again mentions the White Shadows that will be overseeing your progress with Tellex. It seems oddly nostalgic for some reason. That's strange. Overall, solid little piece of lore building that really reinforces the concept aspects.
<><><><>
³MAD IQs:
It's the first song from this album that wasn't released as a single and it made my jaw literally drop. It has a similar lyrical and vocal structure to the opener and New Invention, but what I like is how much they were able to do with it, though it makes you wonder about how far apart these songs were written; but In the context of the albums concept and the Tellex stuff however, it could be interpreted as a corporate decision, this repetition. The minimal instrumentation in the verses with Ryan's sturdy drumming and Dallon's bassline makes me go fucking bananas. It's so fucking great and full of this punchy energy. And the HARMONIES. YES. "Voluntary victim~" "I'm burning~ in your mad IQs" SIR STOP BEING SO VOCALLY TALENTED. Also I think i heard him shriek right before the bridge which? Snazzy. So Mad IQs, energetic track, filled with more of iDKHOWs signature darkness.
<><><><>
⁴NOBODY LIKE THE OPENING BAND:
Ah yes, Opening Band. Ironic considering how often iDKHOW are the opening band, but I'm sure that's obvious, seeing how they usually sing this one at the start of their gigs. It was actually (I think) the first or second song I didn't know how but found through youtube so I might be pretty biased here. It's a sweet sounding change of pace with the instrumentation being made up of only the piano and tambourine that tells of a typical opening band, that no ones ever heard before and likely will never hear again, via a sympathetic narrator with a hint of the typical iDKHOW teasing. In all honesty, it would've worked better as the album opener, which then could've been followed by Leave Me Alone, but it's a nice change of pace overall.
<><><><>
⁵NEW INVENTION:
I already reviewed this song on my other blog right here so imma keep this brief. It shares similar aspects to Leave Me Alone, with the music video concept and song structure, but It manages to darken the narrative, and the choir-esq harmonies sound like ultra bright neon lights that only push this mood further. It still is a magnificent song and by far one of my favourites in the album.
<><><><>
⁶IN THE GALLOWS:
MASSIVE SHIFT IN STYLE HOLY FUCKOLY-. The track opens with a very cutesy old timey little piano intro and starts the verse with a little funny beat. If you don't listen to the lyrics, it sounds like a silly little oldie song. But as we all know, iDKHOW doesn't do silly. The lines "For you, I'd die▪︎Or kill myself▪︎which ever makes you smile," From just the first verse are a prime example of this. The narrators murderous and suicidal intentions have clouded the romantic attraction into obsession- And I kinda like that, in a poetic way. The chorus is a standout, with the calm start to the explosion in the line "I'd swing from the gallows and wave" that just swings at you with a baseball bat to the chest. Oh, and the sax solo? Magnificent. This whole song is a chefs kiss from me.
<><><><>
⁷CLUSTERHUG:
I love the lyrics of this song the most of it all. It sounds like a rebellious teenager wrote it after thinking about how shit their hometown is and wanting to get out. It also incorporates how much the narrator would want to do all this with their crush, adding that slightly goofy and pretend-aloof chorus of "only if you'd like me to I could fall in love with you" as if they weren't already in love or at least that's how I see it. The vibe of this song is more pop-y than the rest of the album, but that's more likely because it was repurposed for Razzmatazz after being originally written for The Brobecks, their older band. It's a nice little tune :).
[SIDE B]
⁸SUGAR PILLS:
This. Will. Get. Stuck. In. Your. Head- and. You. Will. Like. It. Basically, just seems like a song about drugs that, for some reason, reminds me of Gorillaz (who I dont even listen to). But the BASSLINE AGAIN- Jesus help me live. It has more of that energy we saw with the first few tracks and adds even more electronic elements. It's probably my second favourite song from this album that's not a single because of how fun the chorus sounds. What else can I say? I can just imagine myself bopping to this in the car screaming 'SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR PILLS' On a hot day.
<><><><>
⁹KISS GOODNIGHT:
It's so sweet 🥺. It's one of those songs I could imagine a character in a movie singing to someone from a stage. If you want pretty song vibes just listen to it. Because it is a pretty song. And that's all I have to say on it. Now allow me to take a moment and shove it into my pretty song playlist that acts like my personal lullaby machine.
<><><><>
¹⁰LIGHTS GO DOWN:
Yes. F u n k y. Give me that sweet sweet disco energy, thank you. It's just filled with all these *☆~blingy and sparkly~☆* effects, and, combined with the drumming, the result is just glorious. The best part of this song is in my opinion the bridge where it goes darker lyrically and in sound that just naturally slides into another funky-ass sax solo. I can definitely see myself dancing to this at a party and then in later years growing nostalgic for those days.
<><><><>
¹¹NEED YOU HERE:
It's supposed to be happy in tone and hopeful slightly but it just makes me sad. It's a song about how, because Dallon has to tour because it's his job, he has to be away from his family often. And he had nO RIGHT ADDING HIS DAUGHTERS VOCALS AND RECORDINGS INTO THE MIX ITS LIKE HE WANTS US TO CRY. It's not my favourite of the album, not going to lie here, but it's also such a sweet song with nice instrumentals and vibe 🥺 so that's all I'll say.
<><><><>
¹²DOOR:
It seems like this one was written around the time sad ukulele music was really at its peak but am I complaining? Fuck no because this song is great. It just gives it to you straight, that if the narrator ever does anything that the recipient doesn't like, they can always cut them out of their life. It's nice in that regard- you don't usually get songs that don't try to deflect the pain or gain pity. We need more of these kinds of songs. The shortness of it really adds to the effect of this being more like a regularly said thing, even though I'm always a bit sad that it ends so fast. It does, however, nicely close the near end of the album before Razzmatazz.
<><><><>
¹³TOMORROW PEOPLE:
Creepy Tellex thank-you note. You're welcome..? I want no part in your conspiracy tho. Go away weird American corporate man voice.
<><><><>
¹³RAZZMATAZZ:
And there it is. The title track. Like new inventions, I have already reviewed it here on that same blog so this will be brief also and more just thoughts. It's a great closer and is more old timey than most of the songs here as well. And with the last instrumental and sax solo, we come to the albums inevitable end... until next time.
[GENERAL THOUGHTS]
Overall, this was a fantastic little debut for iDKHOW and I loved it. So worth the pre-order. The songs were great and the lyrics were just excellent. My only real criticism is that the song order on Side A was a bit strange. I feel a way to fix this would be to throw Nobody Likes The Opening Band into the beginning, then have Leave Me Alone as a second track, and maybe even switch one of the songs on this side with one from Side B (either Mad IQs or New Invention with something else but then that would be kind of stretching it). Or maybe even switching Clusterhug with Mad IQs or New Invention could work. So in general? Razzmatazz good album. Next question.
<><><><>
Thank you for reading, anyone who happens to see this and have read this. Hope you've enjoyed some of my thoughts on the debut and agreed with at least 2 points I made. See y'all on another review (or shitpost)!

Lost & Found Pt. 2
Tumblr media
Summary: You’re living a suffocating life and you finally find breath in Masego.
Author’s Note: Hi guys! I’m back with chapter two as promised! For whatever strange reason, I’m pretty nervous about this chapter. I hope you guys enjoy! I love you guys and thank you so much for all of the feedback from chapter one! As always, leave a comment for ya girl! I live for the commentary!
“I see Lupita
You know I got the Jones
For my own Rashida
Can you put me on
With Danai Gurira
She stay on my dome”
Ladies violently swarmed towards the stage causing you to stumble forward instantly losing the grip on your phone which resulted in you watching it hit the floor harshly. Discombobulated. Disconnected. And maybe a little drunk since you weren’t much of a drinker. You squatted down and patted the floor in hopes your fingertips would seamlessly come across it. To your surprise, they did. But to your misfortune, some thirsty ass heffa kicked it further away from you.
“Fuck!” you yelled.
And where the fuck is Desmonde you thought.
“Ok ok, I see y’all are live in this mothertrucker. That’s what’s up.” Masego said while adjusting his shades.
He casually placed his saxophone on its stand and put his left hand in his pocket.
“So y’all wanna hear something new?” he continued completely enticing the crowd.
You stood upright and watched him in awe. You couldn’t believe this was the same man from earlier. What the actual fuck. You watched him standing confidently in his expensive velvet threads. A glorious, multi-talented giant he was. He worked flawlessly around his equipment. Conjuring soothing melodies with heavy bass drums that made you want to shake your ass a little.
“So today I met this shorty. She was mmm. I don’t even know how to explain it. But anyway, I wrote this song about her. I’ll tell you the rest of the story on IG. Alright, let’s go!”
“Ooh, I saw her and she hit me like (Tadow)
Saw that thing so beautiful (Tadow)
She just hit my heart, ooh (Tadow)
Full force and she got me like (Tadow)”
You smiled and partially covered your lips watching him sing passionately to the crowd. He pulled down his shades and walked towards the edge of the stage. Suddenly, his eyes locked with yours causing a subtle smirk to form on his lips.
“I be like (Tadow)
Baby (Tadow)
Why you so fine? (Tadow, tadow)
Gotta make you mine (Tadow, tadow)
So hard to find (Tadow, tadow)”
He winked at you and walked back to his music station smoothly. You tore your eyes away from his gaze and smiled to yourself. You looked up once more witnessing him becoming consumed by his music - entirely lost in it. Subconsciously, you bit your lip and tilted your head out of curiosity. It was something about him that turned you on. You couldn’t decide if it was his swag, his vocals, his talent, or his wit but either way, he had your panties dampening from his sweet melodies. Pulling yourself back to reality you wondered if he really saw you or did you just want to be noticed? Could it be possible that this song was about you? No, it can’t be. You’re buzzed, just really really buzzed you reasoned with yourself. Breaking you from your spiraling thoughts, you felt someone grab your arm from behind.
“C, I’ve been calling your phone all damn night! Why the fuck weren’t you answering?” Desmonde screamed with a concerned look on his face.
“I lost it! And Desmone you need to calm that tone down! I’m fine! Get off of me!” you yelled while snatching your arm away from him.
“How fucking long was that line to the bathroom?” you asked while looking him up and down.
“We should go,” he demanded
“We should.” you spat.
From the stage, Masego inquisitively raised an eyebrow watching the drama unfold between you and your boyfriend. You deserved better but if only you could see that. From his eyes, you were nothing shy of beautiful. Full lips, piercing dark brown eyes, mouth-watering curves, thick curly hair, and he loved the sound of your sweet, light airy voice. From the moment he heard it, he wanted to exercise your vocal cords in the best ways. He wanted nothing more than to cherish you and to pour back into what you lost. And maybe, if you would have him, you could show him what he lacks in this world of fame. After watching your quarrel with Desmonde, he decided that you needed a change of pace, a change of man, and a change of scenery and most importantly he wanted you. Correction, needed you. He had exactly two weeks to convince you, prove to you, and show you that he is worthy of your attention before heading to South Africa to finish the second leg of his tour.
“Alright, alright shut up. Too much new song,” Masego said jokingly as he continued his show.
------
*A few minutes prior*
“Well, this was fun,” Brittany said breathlessly.
“I gotta stop fucking you,” Desmonde said as he zipped up his pants.
“Tell that to your dick and not me,” she said as she fixed her makeup in the rearview mirror.
“This is the last time and I mean that shit,” he said sternly
“Uh-huh.” she answered nonchalantly.
“You don’t think I’m serious? Cause I am,” he responded.
“D, I know you love her. But you don’t love yourself, this is why you’re with me. This is why you’re doing what you do. Sure, you can stop fucking me. But there’s always going to be someone else.” she said as she added the finishing touches to her makeup.
Desmonde swallowed dryly taking in her brutal honesty.
“Why am I doing this? To myself? To her?” he thought.
“Don’t worry, I don’t judge. I’m not perfect either and in time I’ll face my demons but not tonight,” she said slyly.
“I’m going to catch the rest of the show. You might want to go head back to your girl,” she said before getting out of the car.
---------
An uncomfortable silence fell between you and Desmonde. The car ride home felt longer than usual. You cracked your window to let some fresh air inside. You felt like you were suffocating from the inside out. Everything around you seemed to intensify your irritation. Your tight dress, your high heels, the silence, and not to mention Des’ presence.
“I’m sorry that I snapped at you earlier,” he said while keeping his eyes on the road.
“Why were you gone for so long?” you questioned.
“Honestly, I don’t know... and that’s the truth. I don’t know what I’ve been doing lately or who I am. And I’m sorry I’m so shitty to you.” he said lowly while his hands gripped the steering wheel.
He pulled into the apartment complex and sighed deeply. After he parked the car, he opened the passenger’s side door and opened it for you. With hesitation, you swung your right leg out of the vehicle and then the left.
“Charisma, I am so sorry,” he repeated.
You swallowed and nodded as a response.
-------
A black satin bonnet covered your delicate curls and a white cotton oversized t-shirt covered your curvy frame. You rested your fatigued body on the cold queen-sized bed and waited for Desmonde to join you in the bedroom. Desmonde staggered to the bed after turning off the bathroom light. He plopped on the bed and grunted into his pillow. You inhaled his fresh scent and smiled at him.
“You drunk drunk?” you whispered.
A lazy smile crept upon his face and as he turned toward you.
“Drunk drunk.” he repeated.
“Des?” you replied while stroking his face.
“Yeah, baby?” he answered while kissing your fingertips lovingly.
“Are you really sorry? You mean that?” you quizzed.
“I am,” he admitted.
“I was thinking maybe we could - that maybe we should have...” you hinted.
“Sex?” he said in disbelief.
“It is my birthday….” you joked trying to ease the tension.
“Charisma.” he said while closing his eyes and bringing his hands over his face in frustration.
“Desmonde, please.” you croaked.
“We’re not as close as we used to be. I think we should try at least.” you continued.
“It’s not that I don’t want to have sex with you-”
“Then what is it?” you interrupted.
“I don’t deserve to touch you like that right now,” he admitted.
“Isn’t that left up to me?” you quizzed.
“I don’t wanna argue. Can you respect that?” he snapped.
You sat up quickly and pulled the covers off of you in utter disgust. You grabbed your pillow and your favorite multi-colored blanket.
“Desmonde can you just admit that you don’t love me anymore? I just need to hear you say it. I know the losing the baby changed everything.” you said lowly.
“Just tell me so I can move on. So you can move on.” you continued.
“I do love you! I love you Charisma … I just don’t know how to love you the right way.” he replied while hanging his head in defeat.
Before you knew it your cheeks were covered in tears. You aggressively wiped your face and nodded in acceptance.
“I’m going to sleep on the couch tonight. And Desmonde?” you paused. “I want you out of this apartment first thing in the morning and I mean that shit,” you said while closing the bedroom door.
-----
*Masego’s Video Post*
“Ok quick storytime. So I was checking into my hotel today. I seen this shorty and she was mmm mmm good. You feel me? Anyways, she’s looking at me and I’m looking at her right? Alright fast forward. So she’s bringing me towels that I didn’t ask for. Hold up rewind, I forgot to mention she works at the hotel. So anyway, she brings me these towels looking all gorgeous. And y’all know me, imma shoot that shot. So I did and I found out shorty had a boyfriend. And that sums up how “Tadow” came about. I made it right after I seen her.”

- Now that he knows
- THIS BABIE WILL FLEX ABOUT YOU BEING EGYPTIAN TO HIS TEAM ALL THE TIME
- tries to say cute things but fails
- like he tried to say ana ba7ebak/ ba7ebik I love you and ends up saying ana ba7la2ak/ba7la2ik I’m shaving you
- you’re just dying of laughter the whole time
- but it’s the thought that counts 🥰
Akaashi Keiji:
- ngl this by will figure it out on his own
- he’s just that smart
- he hears you talking about it with your classmate and that’s how he finds out
- then one day while out on a date your grandma calls
- “what the ..?” confused Y/N

- he was hiding the fact that this is new information to him
- then hinata opened his mouth
- “Kageyama did you know that???”
- yea that’s where everything went south
- he was stuttering and in the end the tangerine never got his answer seeing as the bell saved the blueberry in question
- from then on he tries to take note of everything when it’s you
- he’s not gonna try to learn phrases from you he’ll forget them 0.2 seconds later
Sawamura Daichi:
- he probably finds out when Oikawa ( with whom you attended middle school with and maintain a good friendship with) asks you how to compliment girls in Arabic
Daichi: ??? Y/N doesn’t speak Arabic
Oikawa: OHHHH you haven’t told him yet? Anyways Y/N is Egyptian and so is the girl I’m trying to impress so pleassseeee

^ Jayden’s Song Association Fit
-----------------------------------------------
“Let me take my Black ass to the restroom while we got ourselfs a break. ROCKSY, what’s that cam’ra lookin’ like? We need another battery?”
“We’re good. Jayden, you want a snack?” Roxy redirected at their latest arrival. Jayden tried to sneak a look at the biggest one in the room and failed. He smiled at her. Her glance had caught both of them off guard and it made him feel giddy. It was the most beautiful and natural response she'd received from him-or anyone for that matter- in a while.
“I’m good.” she said hiding her own bashfulness behind her steely exterior. She maintained eye contact with Trevor. Roxy opened up a cabinet to pull out an assortment of Lays and refill the chip bowls that Trevor had demolished when he’d shown up
“ Imma keep tryin. Venmo? Paypal? Zelle? CashApp? Damn, I can get it to you in Bitcoin if that’s what you prefer.”
“How have you done on the game so far?” Jayden again completely ignored his attempts to repay her. She wasn’t concerned about a few extra dollars.
“I’m doin alright so far." He also refused to break contact first "So far Song Association has been the easiest game for me to navigate today.” Jayden blinked and conceded for now. Motivated by his win Trevor strolled over to the living room where she was admiring some of Terrell’s music selection.
“Clever.” she tossed over her shoulder as she reached for a vinyl. In one swift motion, Trevor had taken it from her mid-review.
“Al Green?” He smirked. “ You’ve got taste J. Let me guess.. uh, track 5?”
“What?”
“That’s your single. I see it. No worries though. We can work on that.” he said just as he caught a glimpse of Terrell returning back into the room. Trevor placed the album back in her hands and returned to his stool, readjusting his mic.
“Alright, Mr. Jackson. YA READY?! No more stoppin’ this midnight train to Georgia.” Terrell hollered. Jayden giggled at his silliness as she glanced at the tracklist for Al Green’s Greatest Hits.
Track 5: Tired of Being Alone
Damn he cocky. Jayden thought. At least it wasn’t in an overbearing manner. It was a little endearing. He seems a little goofy. That smile was very telling.  But she wouldn’t show that just yet. Sitting back in her audience of one, Jayden watched them continue to play.
“If I gave you the word “Never” what hits your mind?” Terrell asked the singer. Trevor starts going into a Jackson 5 single that Jayden honestly didn’t know. But, she knows that he is DOING IT. Her eyes go wide as his Michael impression is spot on and before she can even register her own body's movements, she's vibing with it. Music always had a way of helping her with her emotions and channeling a less.. “feisty”,as it had been put earlier, connection with herself and the rest of the world. She was moving around in her seat and doing her best not to spill her coffee over herself or her new friend’s floor.
"Oh shit!" she said clamping her hand over her mouth immediately. That was louder than she expected. Especially since it hadn't meant to leave her head at all. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
"AHA HA" Roxy guffawed. "I tried to warn you. Don't worry Jayden.  We'll fix it in post anyways"
"Jayden you good girl. I had the same reACTion the first time I laid my eyes- I meant my ears on Trevor" Terrell stated taking a very pointed sip from his mug. Everyone knew he'd meant what he'd said the first time and it was causing them all to try not to break into laughter so they could push forward.
"Yeah. Very natural response J. Hakuna matata" Trevor confirmed. Jayden playfully rolled her eyes.
"What's the next word? He's a lil too comfortable" she spoke up.
Terrell nodded at Jayden and refocused on Trevor. "WAY. w-a-y"
Without hesitation, he bursted into song. It was another that Jayden was sadly unfamiliar with.
What is in this man's repertoire?
Soon enough Terrell explained that it was an original off of a project called Rough Drafts 2. At once Jayden grabbed her phone and opened her Spotify app. Creating a new playlist, she glanced up at the boys and locking in on Trevor she came up with an idea. "Thotful n Tired 💭" she titled it. She was adding damn near his whole discography when her ears perked up at the fact that he had an additional 200 unreleased singles on his computer at home. The more time spent in his presence the more the question of "Who the hell is this nigga?" rose in Jayden's mind.
Trevor responded to Terrell all the while staring at Jayden and answering her unspoken question as well.
"So any fans that live in L.A. and you wanna just come and listen to new music not recorded.." he trailed off leaving an open invitation for Jayden and the rest of LA.
He really just said: Come find out
------------------
Jayden was both relieved and saddened when Trevor was finished with his Song Association. In a very short time, she'd learned a lot about this person she'd never even heard of until that afternoon. As his song had promised, he truly had her beggin for more.  The way they interacted and the feelings she felt towards him had grown quickly but it was familiar. It seemed as if they'd already done this dance before. Jayden was trying to figure out how to rationalize this to herself but she couldn't. It was the way that she and Trevor had silently held private conversations  in a room with others.  Even as they were learning one another, a lot of the pieces already seemed to be connected.
Trevor was filming his spot for Terrell’s outro. It took every ounce of restraint in Jayden not to cackle out loud when he said “I think we’re gonna queue the rain right now. Mm hmm. You feel that? This is not a joke. It’s a motion in your ocean.”
Trevor had made her feel a range of emotions in their time together. Jayden had laughed, she’d pondered a topic or two she’d never fully considered, she’d felt sexy and above all else- she felt noticed. Truly seen.  It was a lot. But, the girl was a hustler by nature. So, she was keeping up with each curveball that day had thrown at her.
“Imma run to the restroom” Jayden announced. She wasn’t certain why she felt the need to do so. But it seemed far more courteous than roaming through Terrell’s halls.
“Alright we gotta get ready for you when ya done Miss Jayden!” Terrell called out.
When she returned, there was no Trevor in sight. Just Roxy and Terrell. Jayden wasn’t disappointed for them being there. Although she was a little put off that Trevor had exited so quickly and without saying goodbye?  She wasn’t about to let that show though. Sure, she really thought she’d felt a connection with him. But, she wasn’t going to let it get in the way of the single calendar event of her year- outside of her birthweek of course.
“My turn?” Jayden asked as she returned back into the kitchen where the green screen was.
“Mmmhhmm” Terrell affirmed “I just gotta follow you to this res’room. I dun broke my damn seal. Plus,  we waitin on Trevuh to finish his call.” As if he heard his queue, the front door opened and Trevor came back in.
“Oh.” Jayden let out. Trevor studied her as Terrell turned towards his restroom. Roxy was on the balcony getting some air and making a call of her own.
She was feening her cool, unbothered mask. But that one syllable had given her away. “What? You thought I left?” he asked.
“I mean you were gone. So, yeah.” Jayden said shrugging her shoulders and throwing her wrist back dismissively.
“Huh.” Trevor stared back quizzically. “I can’t do that just yet. One: I don’t think it’s fair that you got to see mine and I don’t get to see yours and two: I still need to figure out a way to make sure we’re even.”
“Ahh. So you’re stayin?”
“I got a little extra time. Plus, this is definitely worth it. But look, promise me something real quick.”
“Yeah, what’s that?”
“Since you’re so gung-ho on not taking back the money which is owed to you. Let me pay my debt another way.”
“What if I like the notion of Trevor Jackson being forever indebted to me?” The smolder he returned to her made her feel that someone had pressed play on Puddles again. But she simply crossed her arms and cocked her head at him. They were in yet another staring contest.
Trevor let a beat pass as he wound up his pitch in his mind. “Aight, how about-
“Okay. I hope ya’ll enjoyed.. Ya break,” Terrell trailed off as he walked in on the tension that occupied the room. Jayden took a small step back from Trevor. She hadn’t realized that they were all in each other's personal space.
“Yup. I’m ready.” Roxy re-entered from the balcony and grabbed the mic Trevor had used earlier that day to affix to Jayden. “Feel okay?”
“It does.” Jayden said. All of a sudden all of that calm she’d felt left her. She was getting the nerves again. She wasn’t certain if it was because of the game she was going to play or the one she’d been entangled in since she’d laid eyes on Trevor. He himself was still trying to figure out this woman. She had a hard exterior and a beguiling sexual energy that he couldn’t detach himself from. When she sat on that stool allowing Terrell to compliment her outfit and introduce herself a little bit, she radiated. She also had a pretty good voice too for a Shits and Giggles winner.
“I’m mad at you” Terrell said.
“Why?” Jayden
“I hear it. I hear that there in ya throat box. You got them vocals.” Terrell said. “Why you hidin?”
“Ohmygod. Hush. I can hold a tune here and there. But I don’t know about them vocals. I don’t know how to control it.”
Terrell squinted his eyes. “I don’t believe it. Sing that song again. Because you got the emotion. I can tell you feel these songs here. You haf’way there but you too worried about sounded perfect. Let that go.”
Jayden was quick to adapt. She took that advice from Terrell and moments later you could hear the difference. Closing her eyes she tried again
Have you ever found the one
You've dreamed of all of your life
Do just about anything to look into their eyes
Have you finally found the one you've given your heart to
Jayden tried her best not to get into her head about fucking up and pushed the nervousness down within her. Because when she became tense it would lock up her voice and she would miss her mark altogether
Only to find that one won't give their heart to you
She exhaled from her nose and smiled because she’d clearly sounded better than the first time
Have you ever closed your eyes and
Dreamed that they were there
Jayden opened her eyes and stopped. She may not have control; but, she knew her limit
“Now I know you didn’t stop.” Jayden picked up some of the liquid courage Terrell had fixed her. Her coffee was long gone by this point. She couldn’t keep the fear at bay. She didn’t want to make that big of a fool of herself today and have her voice crack like a pre-pubescent teen.
Trevor was taking it all in.  She was a whole party when put on the spot and she easily gave off a coolness that made you certain to never cross her. She was not one to be played with.  But it was obvious that music opened up another avenue to Jayden. Trevor had seen it when their roles were reversed. She was empathetic to the emotions of  whichever song he sang.
Her music taste was eclectic as well. She’d come through with country, gospel, r&b, showtunes and she seemed to have every Chicago rapper’s discography down pat. Trevor was genuinely impressed by her ability to copy and paste an artist’s essence into her own. She was fucking up the game and had songs for every word Terrell threw her way.
“RIGHT R-I-G-H-T” Terrell announced. Jayden glanced a look at Trevor and then she gave her undivided attention to Terrell.
Just stand right here
Let me show you what I'm about
To do to that body
And come down here
Let me show you where to touch my body
Let the foreplay begiiiin
Bet you never had this before
Cause once I go iiiiiiin
I'm gone have you begging for more
Boy, I'm talking right now, right now, right now, yeah
Right now, oh
Can we make some love right now?
Jayden laughed and when she’d finished, there was silence. It was like someone had pressed the mute button in real life. Then the room erupted with noise at once
“UH UH”
“hOw?”
“Whoa whoa whoa”  all crashed on top of each other.
“What?” Jayden asked.
“WHAT?! This heffa really just said WHAT? TUH!” Terrell hollered.
“Wait. You said you’d never heard of Trevor before,” said a very baffled Roxy.
“Before a few hours ago, no. I hadn’t.” Roxy said. Jayden gave a shrug in Trevor’s direction.
“But you just sang his song?” Roxy asked
“Yeah. Because I heard him sing it earlier.
“You mean to tell me, that you heard this negro sang that song one time half an hour ago and you committed it to your memory?”
“Yes. I have perfect echoic memory. Obviously I don’t always process this in a way where I can duplicate it perfectly. But, I can mimic it pretty close.”
Trevor finally spoke up. “So when you hear something you can pull up that audio in your mind and not only play it back for yourself but you’ve trained yourself to be able to mimic it almost dead ass spot on?”
“Yeah. That’s pretty much it.” Jayden said as if she’d just read rattled off the day’s weather report. “You’re pretty sharp.” The compliment rolled off of Trevor in his astonished state of mind. Just then, his phone vibrated in his pocket. “Damn” he muttered looking at the screen. “Aite y’all, that’s my cue.” I gotta head out. Just as his mother had done, Trevor said goodbye to everyone individually. He saved Jayden for last.  “Good luck Jayden. It was nice meeting you. Matter of fact, let me get your info so I can follow up with you to see if you really get that perfect score” He offered his phone out to her with the keypad pulled up.
“Oh, you already know that I came to win today.” she tapped some buttons and gave him back his phone. Looking down, Trevor realized that she’d followed herself on his Instagram account.  She smiled but her eyes only said one word:
Checkmate.

x Wade In The Water
{ Chapter 8: My Mind My Heart and Hallelujah }
Summary: Ester Scott was once in love. She thought the days of her shortcomings were over and that the man she found was her one and only. But all that was taken away when the demons she had became too accustomed to finally took the one thing she had left. Louisiana was her home but the devil down below was calling her name. She only has herself to blame when it came to the hands dragging her under.

Death has meaning. Life has consequences.
- Ester R. Scott
It had been two weeks since Chem and I were given a ride by Mr Hazbin, Chem still held on to the idea that he would come around again to sweep me off my feet. I could only give her a dismissive look and tell her to go on with her work. Get ya head out the clouds and stop dreaming about the unthinkable. Chemintine would just shake her head at me telling me I was 'no fun' and giggle herself back into another stitch. Luckily for me Chemintine wasn't a loudmouth and no one in the shop knew about it. If word got out there was no telling what Monique and Clover would do, or how they would react, if they knew. They make my life a living hell more than it already was.
I fold up a few loose scraps of fabric and tuck them away into the cubbies ready to end my day. Today was rather busy with people coming in with commissions and pickups. Since it was starting to become summer more and more people wanted to have vacation clothes before heading out for the midday sunset strolls. I couldn't blame them, I too would want to look good while the sun was going down, and look even better when the moon was shining. I grab my jacket from the hook by the door and turn towards Chemintine. Unlike me, already packed up and ready to go, the poor girl was still hard at work with a worried expression on her face. She looked so overwhelmed with whatever she was working on and I knew we wouldn't be leaving any time soon if I didn't step in. Huffing and putting my jacket back on the hook I walked up behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You're supposed to be packing up, darling."
"I can't, not right now, Estie, I screwed up this shirt and I had to take all the embroidery out and redo it. I have no idea where this person got this shirt but it was a terrible idea to bring it here. It was an even worse idea for Ms Birdy to give it to me." Chemintine threw down her tool and let out a big sigh of frustration. Behind us I could hear Monique and Clover giggling as they left out the backroom. I counted my prayers and patted Chemintine's shoulder for her to get out the chair. Once I was in the chair I rolled up my sleeves and picked up the shirt. You could clearly see where the repair area was and where Chemintine had started and started over. It was a bunch of tiny red trees showing branches and darker red leaves. It was in turn a very simple embroidery but I wasn't going to say anything.
"Pull up a chair and watch me do a few before handing it back to you."
"Yes ma'am!" Chemintine hurried to grab a stool and for the next thirty minutes we sat at her desk working on the shirt. When it was finally finished Chemintine thanked me nearly in tears. I patted her back and shooed her off to get ready for us to go. As a finishing touch I did an invisible stitch of my initials on the inside of one of the cuffs and tucked the shirt into a box. I'm starting to think Chemintine likes to find ways out of her work by having me do it. I'd pinch her cheek and tell her about herself considering she's staying at my house. But for now I really just wanted to get home and take off my shoes.
The next day was just the same with many faces coming into the shop and many more leaving with their clothing. I was stuck in the back room knockings out fixes and projects. I didn't mind it, I much preferred to be in the back than manage the front, too many rude people came in and made comments they shouldn't. Mrs Bridy knew I didn't like the front of really busy days but sometimes she would stick me out there anyway. This was a little blessing to me anyways.
"Ester!" I snapped myself around when I heard Chemintine yell my name. She came towards me with a force of fear. She threw herself onto me and I had no choice but to catch her unless I wanted to fall to the floor.
"What in god's name, Chemintine?" I pushed her off me a bit but she clung to me for dear life.
"My daddy," she began to cry into my shoulder and I sighed having to pull her off again. This time through tears and hiccups. "My daddy just came in and he wants me to go home so he can talk to me."
"Then just go see what he wants. You already made up your mind that you ain't going back to Texas so just keep standing on that." I finally got her to release me from her death grip.
The girl shook her head in fear, "I ain't going home so he can yell at me, I ain't going, all he is gonna try to do is send me back and I can't...I can't."
"Calm down, now." I pulled her over to my workspace and sat her down in my chair. I looked around to see if the others had noticed Chem's breakdown. Monique and Clover seemed to be more caught up in each other than us. Good. I pulled a box of tissues towards her and Chemintie thanked me as she cleaned her face.
"Ester I don't wanna go."
"I know, I know you don't, but you gotta or your daddy will find where you've been staying. And Imma tell you know I don't think he wants to hear you've been staying at a negro's house." I sighed and shook my head, the storm it would cause if I saw an angry white man marching towards my house screaming for his daughter to come out. That be the day I saw my last breath.
"What am I to do Ester if he asks me where I've been?"
"Tell him you've been thinking over your choices with Mrs Birdy. Tell him you've heard his words and you know it's time to finally become your own woman. If he asks you anything about how you're going to sustain yourself, tell him Mrs Birdy only hires girls she knows are strong enough to stand on their own. And leave it at that." I crossed my arms over my chest and huffed and that seemed to bring Chemintine back to her senses.
"I...I wish I was more like you, Ester." Chemintine said whipping away the last of her tears.
"No you don't, darling, I'm nothing but a stubborn bull and a timid elephant." That made the both of us laugh and Chemintine excused herself to head back to the front of the shop. As she passed through the arch Mrs Birdy stepped out and smiled towards me. I nodded back with a nervous smile and went back to my work. As I sat down in my chair I felt a jolt of coldness shoot up my spine. I only felt them when an angel was around and I hadn't noticed it. I slowly look around me, nothing, I turn towards the door and there is standing in the corner. But this angel was unlike the ones I always saw, it had a hue of blue and more of a human appearance. The angel looked towards Mrs Bridy as the woman's back was turned then towards me. The angel shook its head and frowned before vanishing.
That has never happened before.
I was speechless and the only thing I knew I could do was to say my hail Mary and turn back around and get back to work.
The end of the day came once again and I was nothing but happy to throw off my apron and head towards the door. Today Mrs Birdy had us stay open later than normal due to the customers that kept coming in and out. I knew Chemintine wouldn't be heading home with me so it was best for me to hurry home now so I wouldn't be caught in the traffic or the sun setting. When the sun started to set the dirt road streets were no place for me.
"Wait, Ester!" Chemintine grabbed my aim and gently pulled me back. I turned around and she simply held up the shirt and mouth 'please help me'.
"What happened?" I grabbed the shirt and saw the stitches were popped. I felt the anger starting to boil inside of me as I could only imagine who it could have been that did this.
"This shirt is meant to be delivered today and there isn't a phone number to ring to tell them it will be late. I would do it but I have to go to my daddy's. There is no way I could get it done and delivered and not be yelled at by my daddy for being late. I don't wanna be yelled at, Ester, please help me."
"Chemintine..."
"Please Ester! I know I know I could take it with me to my daddy's and try to work on it there but we all know that wouldn't work. I could leave it for tomorrow but I don't want Mrs Birdy losing money because of me." Chemintine gave me the biggest pair of puppy dog eyes I'd ever seen and I shook my head. I turned away from her to think for a moment. As I tried to think over every possible outcome of me doing it all I could imagine was my momma telling me to go'on and help the poor white girl. With a sigh and a drop of my shoulders I turned back around and took the shirt.
"Thank you so much, Ester! I'll repay you, I promise to god I will, thank you so much!" Chemintine kissed me on the cheek and started grabbing her things from her workbench. "The address is on the table, there isn't a name, just simple instructions to drop it off at the doorsteps."
"No name?" I asked over my shoulder.
"Nope. I got the order from Mrs Birdy in the form of a letter saying they liked my work and wanted me to do it. Odd I know but who knows might have been a secret admirer. Too bad I can't go to him myself." Chemintine pouted for a bit then shrugged. "Well, off I go, thanks again, Ester!"
"Bye Chemintine," I waved the girl off, dreading every moment of being a nice person. It was better just to hurry and get this damn shirt fixed up and packaged for a journey than to hold off any longer. With the time ticking away on the clock just above the wall, I told myself I wouldn't be staying here all night and I would hurry and get this done. Maybe just maybe I could get this done before the sun started to set and be home right when the moon started to show its face. God, I hoped so.
How I managed to fix every stitching in record timing and head out the shop door was beyond me. God was really on my side as I headed towards the bus stop, the address was actually towards my house but a bit farther heading towards the swamplands. I groaned knowing that his shirt had to belong to some high class wealthy man who lived off the nicer side of the swamps. With that being said they wouldn't be too kind to people like me so it was in my best to leave this at the door and hurry away from the house. Oh Chemintine I swear you'll be the reason I'd end up hanging from a tree. The bus ride away from the city wasn't too bad, rather quiet as all the other black folks sat tiredly. I could see the pain on their faces as they waited for their stops. We worked day in and day out trying to stay alive while some people just rolled around in bed all day. I could remember how tired my momma was coming home late at night. She would have just enough energy to kiss me goodnight and tell me she loves me.
I lean against my window and watch the clouds in the sky start to change colors. 'Don't make me walk in the dark' I repeated over and over in my head hoping someone above would tell god to hold the sun just a bit more. When my stop came I got up and headed towards the exit.
"Um Ma'am?" The bus driver called out towards me.
"Yes sir?"
"You don't live this way."
"I have to drop off a shirt from the shop. Will this be the last time you come this way?" I asked nervously and he could tell I was secretly asking him to come back. For a moment he thought about it and turned around to look at who was left on the bus. He turned back to me and slowly nodded with a smile. "Thank you kindly."
"I'll be waiting for ya." The driver tipped his hat and closed the doors as I stepped off to continue driving. I was right when I said these people lived on the right side of the swamp. The two houses I could see from where I was were french mansions sitting pretty on wildflowers. I started my walk down the long dirt path praying that everything would be alright every step of the way. It took me about a couple of minutes to walk down the road to get to the first house. I looked back to the address card to read the numbers and thank the lord the first house on the right was where I needed to go. I started towards the door of the house just as someone was about to walk out.
"Excuse me, just what do you think you're doing?" A man that looked no older than me called out from the porch.
"I have a delivery from the tailors," I called back to him and he seemed to chuckle. He stepped off the porch and headed towards me, I quickly held out the box to put distance between us. I couldn't bring myself to look at him, I could seem the trouble leaking off of him and it smelled like cheap booze. He snatched the box from me and opened it and huffed.
"I'd wish my sister would throw this damn shirt away already," I nodded and told him to have a good day as I turned on my heels to walk away. "Wait a minute," he reached out and grabbed me roughly by the wrist. "Ain't you a little far from where you're supposed to be? How about I give you a ride back?" The nasty smile that looped on his face was all I had to see to know I had to get away.
"No sir, that's alright, I have someone waiting for me and I told them I wouldn't belong. Please excuse me." I pulled my arm away from him and nodded once more and started once again to make it towards the road to get back to the bus stop. I could hear him whistle as I stumbled down the road and let out a chuckle.
"You ain't bad looking for a coloured girl." He yelled and it made me flinch and speed up quicker. The sun was starting to turn the sky orange and I begged out loud the bus driver would be back by the time I made it there.
When I got to the bus stop I was huffing and puffing for air, my own time I didn't stop speed walking hoping to make it out of the man's sight. There was nowhere to sit so I had to continue to stand as I waited. I had no idea what time it was by now, only that in a few more moments it would be dark and hopefully the bus was still coming my way. To keep me from panicking I started to sing a few songs I knew. It started with church songs but quickly changed to songs my momma would sing to me, and it worked. I felt a bit better but I was still on high alert for everything. Where the hell was this bus? As I stepped out to look down the main dirt road I heard the sound of an engine. I thought it was the bus so I tried to get a better look down the road but when I didn't see the lights I worried. Just then faint lights started to light up the road from behind me. I turned and saw a car coming from the way of the houses. Fear washed from my head to my toes and I quickly went back to the side of the road trying to make myself as small as possible. Hopefully whoever was coming would only ignore me and keep driving. As I waited for the lights to hurry past me I held my breath and counted. The sound of the engine got louder and in a few seconds, the car was right next to me then turning towards the left and leaving. I thought I would turn blue the way I held my breath and finally let it go. I watched as the car made it halfway down the road before hitting it's brakes and stopping. Then it started to turn around and I knew I couldn't stand where I was anymore. I didn't want to cause a scene if they happened to be going the other way so I waited a bit before doing anything. When the car was close again I could clearly see that it was the man from the door.
As the car started gunning towards me once more I thought quickly to start running towards the houses. That seemed to be the push the man in the car needed as I heard him laughing and howling at me, "Come on back here! We just wanna talk to ya!"
"Where ya going, girl?!" Another voice called out from the car and I didn't dare to look back and see who it was. "You sure are a fast one, faster Jimmy!" The sound of their laughter and yelling made my heart stop beating and the color of my face drained. I had to keep running and hide somewhere. As I was halfway down the dirt road I looked around for where to go, I could ask for help from anyone that lived on this land. I had to hide and I had to make it quick before they ran me down. I took a sharp right when I saw another off the grid path towards the swamps. I hated the swamps with every inch of my body, from the water to the mud, to the unknown dangers that lurked around in the waters. But it was my only choice, so I took it, I rather die from the mouth of an animal than the hands of an unpredictable white man. I heard the car stop and the car doors slam shut as they continued to yell after me. Surely they wouldn't be desperate enough to harass me all the way into the swamp.
It didn't fucking matter! I had to get as far away from them as possible!
I was trying my hardest trying not to fall over rocks and fallen tree branches. The path I was following started to sink into the muddy waters and at first, I thought of turning around and finding a different way, until I heard their laughter behind me.
"I see her!" one of them yelled and I quickly kicked off my shoes and picked them up as I started stepping through the mud. The disgust in my stomach was overpowered by my fear. I had to use a few of the trees around me to help me pull myself out of deeper spots while trying to be as quiet as possible. I turned around to see if they were still on me and they were so I hurried to try to find a place to hide between the trees and the overgrown grass. I ran into a few spider webs and touched so much unknown stuff that I knew that if I made it out of this I would speed days in the bath trying to get clean. I even fell over a rock and fell into the mud knocking my glasses off my face. I gasped but quickly shut my mouth and tried to find them. The sun was already low and there was no telling my left from my right. I found them and quickly cleaned the mud off them as best I could. It did me no justice as now my vision was blurry and dirty.
"Come out you damn monkey! This could do a lot better if you just be a good girl and do what ya told."
"Maybe she's too stupid to understand orders."
"Ha!" My blood was boiling as they continued to talk but there was nothing I could do. I eventually found a spot I could hide. Two sweeping willows hung low to the ground with wild tall grass around them. I ducked off between the leaves and grass and held my breath, my heart felt like it was going to break through my chest. My feet felt like needles were stabbing them and my legs were on fire. Hot salty tears streamed down my face and it took a lot out of me to keep myself quiet so they wouldn't find me.
"Damnit where she go?!" They were close...right on top of me if they happened to be smart enough to turn around. I prayed they were just as dumb as they looked and wouldn't have the brains to actually look for me. I wanted to go home. I wanted to be in my bed. I wanted my momma. They stayed in the area I was in for a few more minutes looking around with what little light they had left. When they were close I would jump sometimes thinking they had finally got me but then they would turn and walk away. I watched them as best I could until I heard one of them tell the other they should leave.
Finally.
I waited a few more moments before slowly rising from my spot and trying to make it out. I only made it a few easy steps before I felt arms wrap around me and pull me down to a patch of land that was halfway in the water. I screamed and one of the men covered my mouth with his hand.
"I told you she would come out."
"Yeah well know I'm pissed these are my nice shoes, I don't wanna do this anymore, I'm going back to the car. Have fun with that tramp and hurry up." A foot kicked mud onto my face and the person walked away. I tried to fight my way out of my restraints but the man on top of me was a lot bigger than I imagine.
"Come on now, stay still, ain't no one finna help you and you're ain't going nowhere." I felt his hand starting to creep up my side and I jumped away from him and started screaming and kicking. I managed to slip part of his hand into my mouth and I bit him. That was enough for him to pull away and for me to crawl from under him and try to escape. He grabbed my ankle and pulled me back down onto my stomach and held my face down. I couldn't hear a word of what he said as I continued to scream for my life. The hand on my head gripped my hair and shoved me back down as the other hand inched up my skirt and tried to pull it down.
"Stay still." He growled in my ear and I tried once more to kick and get away. I was so tired and scared, my body was at its limit and I knew I couldn't do any more with the lack of energy. I felt my body go numb and I couldn't scream anymore but I hated every touch of his hand yanking at my clothes. My glasses were knocked from my face and I couldn't see anything in front of me.
But I heard the footsteps.
I heard the loading of a gun.
And finally, I heard a very loud bang.
It wasn't the lack of weight on my body that I felt first, it was the feeling of something wet and new falling on to my neck. When the body hit the ground I quickly kicked away once again and tried to find my glasses to see what was happening. It was dark and I had no idea where they were so I gave up and looked towards the way the gun was fired. A shadow stepped out from behind the trees and it came closer.
"P-Please don't shoot me," I begged and closed my eyes in fear of what was to happen. The gun loaded again and I could hear the falling of shells, I flinched and curled in on myself.
"Jimmy? Jimmy, what was that?" I turned my head towards the sound of the other voice and the shadow in front of me started heading in that direction. Since I couldn't see anything I couldn't make out just who the shadow was but when they stood in front of me about to walk away they turned back around. Their face was a blur but I could make out that they were smiling towards me.
"Stay here, dear." My heart stopped once again and I was sure my eye grew as wide as the moon as I recognized that voice. The last thing I saw before fainting from exhaustion was hearing someone asking Alastor who he was and the sound of a gun firing.
