11th PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON 2020

The PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON has been one of Zurich’s sustainable festivals for performance art in public space for eleven years now, and has become a very important platform for discussion with a view to exchange and dialogue between artists and the public.

The whole cultural life was suddenly shifted to the online platforms, with this tele-presence, the private space had shown itself as a temporary and partly public space. Now we return to the public space with real and direct encounters. In this year’s edition of the PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON is about other experiences, reflections and broader social and political issues, but also about other important questions not only in relation to the art business. Art in public space causes and moves a – not quite everyday – possibility to look at the world we live in with different eyes, to reflect and discuss about it.

Encuentro con la artista en residencia en PACA: LOU PATAT. Un pincheo festivo en la pomar de PACA, lugar en el que Lou Patat está realizando una pintura mural con la técnica del buon fresco. Encuentro informal con la artista para conocer su trabajo y ver de cerca algunos detalles del proceso y de la técnica empleada con la que ha estado experimentando durante su residencia.

El encuentro ha iniciado  delante de la obra que que Lou Patat está realizando en el muro de una pequeña construcción en ladrillo situada dentro de la pomar de PACA. LouPatat ha realizado la lectura de uno de sus relatos, escrito para una obra anterior, pero con la que hemos querido iniciar la presentación y mostrar así su forma de trabajar, en la que historias de ficción y obra plástica se van fundiendo durante su proceso creativo. Hemos realizado una  breve explicación técnica sobre los materiales empleados en la pintura mural “al fresco” , para seguir en el estudio con una breve muestra documental que permitía añadir posibles capas de lectura : desde una breve bibliografía utilizada por la artista para la realización de esta obra (libros de restauración, técnicas pictórica y buon fresco, monográficos y catálogos de pintura al buon fresco de época romana y renacentista) a la publicación  "Cuando el temblor del útero realiza toda la descarga" [Leyendo a Casilda Rodrigánez Bustos] 2017 (gracias a https://rsmp.tumblr.com/)  en la que las formas sinuosas, los círculos y líneas en expansión de la iconografía antigua y las culturas matrísticas hablan de fuerzas vitales, de placer, del ritmo y pulsión de todo órgano viviente, así como del placer de la mano al unísono con la respiración y la mente.

Lou Patat, artista visual de Nijmegen (Países Bajos), recientemente graduada en la Universidad de las Artes ArtEZ. Sus obras parten casi siempre de historias de ficción o fábulas que ella misma escribe. A partir de ellas, y experimentando con una gran variedad de técnicas y materiales, dando libertad a un gesto automático y repetitivo inspirado en prácticas rituales, las historias y las imágenes comienzan a fundirse.

En este momento, en Paca, está aprendiendo la técnica de la pintura mural al fresco;  el mural realizado se inspira en el entorno y en motivos iconográficos de la pintura pompeyana. Cada giornata (término utilizado para designar cada día de trabajo sobre un enlucido fresco) es un mundo que aflora y que quizás se convierta en una nueva historia...

We invite you to an artist's talk by Shimon Attie, Lehigh University's Horger Artist in Residence for 2022 and visiting professor in the Department of Art, Architecture and Design, on Wednesday, March 2, 4:30 pm. Prof. Attie is one of today's most recognized public and video artists. His work has been shown at major museums and galleries including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Corcoran Gallery and National Gallery of Art, Washington; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; and Centre Pompidou, Paris. He has been the recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, Rome Prize, and a lifetime achievement award from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. You can learn more about his work and in this recent segment on PBS News Hour when the links in our bio. In his lecture, Prof. Attie will highlight a selection of projects across space and time. He will present key early works such as The Writing on the Wall, a series of site-specific projections in Berlin’s former Jewish Quarter, and discuss in greater depth his more recent work from the past several years. The presentation will include Prof. Attie's projects with communities of refugee and asylum seekers around the world, including The Crossing and Night Watch. It will also discuss his current residency project, inspired by Bethlehem’s complex and layered past and present, with the working title Starstruck: An American Tale. The project will be exhibited at the Lehigh University Art Galleries in Fall 2022. The talk is free and open to the public, and will be held in person in Building C, 113 Research Drive, in the C3 High Bay.
