One of the fun things I’ve gotten the opportunity to do over the last year and a half is this series of book covers for author Matthew J. Barbeler’s LitRPG series Edge Force. The books are—in image order—Bleeding Edge, Claws of the Dragon, and Bury the Hatchet. They’re a fun read, and available through Amazon if you’re interested!
These are a mix of digital painting over pencil drawings and ink washes.
I love doing book covers, especially in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do since I was a wee one, so if you know an author needing some colorful art, send ‘em my way! Much love, everyone.
If you’re like me - a starving artist - then paying for classes and tuition can be difficult. I’d prefer to save my money for editing and the front cover design, so it is with thanks to the following who’ve helped me grow exponentially as an author.
Caveat: needless to say, I am in no way affiliated with these people overseas. I’ve never met them/spoken to them, but I felt I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention their channels. I always believe in paying it forward. ENJOY!
https://www.youtube.com/c/JennaMoreci - if you love sass, savagery and sarcasm, this is the channel for you. Jenna’s dark fantasy books have won multiple awards, and she has a non-fiction book coming out soon. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder with another BookTuber.
https://www.youtube.com/c/NataliaLeigh - an indie author who also runs her own business helping authors - Enchanted Ink. I love Natalia’s warm energy, and she dishes up some pretty neat tips.
https://www.youtube.com/c/AbbieEmmons - an indie author who delves into the science behind storytelling. There’s some truly fascinating stuff here.
https://www.youtube.com/c/AlexaDonne - a traditionally published YA author who loves dishing out tough love. Love her inspiration.
Sherlock is a Girls Name is full of stories about female Sherlocks and their Watsons, through time and space and fantasy worlds. My story: The Case of the Toxic Teacake.

15. A book you never thought you'd be into but were proven wrong
The Application of Pressure by Rachael Mead.
I chose to read it because a Goodreads challenge required me to read a book with a paramedic character. The story follows two paramedics in Adelaide, South Australia, with each chapter being a new emergency but also showing a little snippet of their lives. It takes place over the course of about 20 years, from when they are 20-ish and finishing training to when they are 40-ish and how the career has taken a toll on their mental health.
It is by no means a happy book, but it was very eye-opening, and it does have some funnier and light-hearted moments. It is a fictional book, but a lot of the stories likely rings true for paramedics. I was predicting a 2.5 to 3 star rating and thought it would be a bit of a slog to get through, but ended up giving it 4 stars and sped through it in one day.
A heartwarming story following Wilhelmina as she gets to know her mother through letters.

Whenever I’m reading fanfiction I can never hear the word mate without hearing “G’day mate how you been?” In my grandfathers voice, it could be omegaverse it could be soulmates, no matter what I can’t read it without hearing “G’day mate”
srry I got a little sidetracked & am now disproportionately mad at a fic I’m reading bc someone wrote an Australian character who can’t swim but it’s literally taught in school here…

Love in No Man’s Land Series, Book 3
When Marcus suggests we make a bet and if I win I get his ex’s ticket on a four day cruise, I’m not sure he’s for real. He doesn’t like to gamble and he hates to lose even more than I do. Yet, the allure of sharing a room with him for four glorious days is too tempting to resist.

I don’t believe anyone should be disillusioned into thinking they can know something to its fullest. That’s why I never want to stop learning about the craft of storytelling. Whether it be through books, or YouTube tutorials, or even classes on Skillshare, when I have a moment to myself, I love brushing up on the craft and seeing what others have to say about the exciting journey of writing fiction.
Here are 10 books that have helped me on my journey, and I hope they help you, too:
1. My Grammar and I (or should that be ‘me’?) by Caroline Taggart
2. Ten Things About Writing by Joanne Harris (author of Chocolat)
3. Creative Writing Demystified by Sheila Bender
4. Bestseller (How to write fiction that sells) by Jennifer Bacia
5. How to Write a Dynamic Scene Using the Snowflake Method by Randy Ingermanson
6. Emotional Thesaurus by Angela Ackerman & Becca Puglisi
7. Creative Writing Exercises for Dummies by Maggie Hamand
8. Writing Crime Fiction by Rosemary Rowe
9. Dear Writer, You Need to Quit by Becca Syme
10. The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E. B. White
There are loads more and, of course, some of you might not take out of these books what I did. But if they can help in any way, I am truly glad. There’s so much to know about storytelling. If I had a chance to redo the way I started out, then it would surely be reading a whole lot more on the subject of writing great fiction.
Best of luck to you all with your creative writing journey!
