No one tells you it's all about to change, to be taken away. There's no proximity alert, no indication that you're standing on the precipice. And maybe that's what makes tragedy so tragic. Not just what happens, but how it happens: a sucker punch that comes at you out of nowhere, when you're least expecting it. No time to flinch or brace.
Blake Crouch, Dark Matter

The Calibrationist is AVILABLE NOW!
To celebrate the release, The Calibrationist will be FREE on Amazon for a very limited time; March 04-08!
Hope to see you there! :D
--
When one bad night can take out the city... In an alternate near-future Chicago, psychics roam the streets under a regime of oppression, lost within the glare of new technology. They all fear the same fate: the Calibrationist, the agent charged with taking them in when outpourings send their powers into overdrive. Wayne Grayson never wanted the job, but with government incentives being the only thing keeping his comatose fiancée alive, he doesn’t have a choice. When outpouring victims in Chicago suddenly skyrocket, Wayne must team up with psychic-wary Veronica Jones—a black Chicago police sergeant, familiar with the hypocrisies of the system—to discover the cause before the city lies in ruin. The deeper they delve into the investigation, though, the more they begin to suspect that someone is setting off psychics intentionally...but Wayne mustn’t let the details of the case reach the public, as each fear-mongering new story only tightens the shackles of hatred closing in on his community. Meanwhile, in a post-catastrophe Japan, psychic Sonya Izono finds herself pregnant in a country where mandatory sterilization is in force. Torn between bitterness at the child and a fierce desire to save them, Sonya must find a way out of the country before her secret becomes impossible to hide. As Wayne and Sonya’s paths collide, they must work together to unravel a devious plot intent on setting the world against itself, psychics and non-psychics alike. Mind-bending and grounded in the heart, The Calibrationist uses speculative intrigue to examine the state of the modern world, perfect for fans of Blake Crouch and Andy Weir.

Dark Matter — trailer and date for another Apple TV+ SF series
Dark Matter is another science fiction show for Apple TV+’s growing portfolio, and looks set to be yet another addition to my watch list. In the most recent press release, they confirm the first two episodes arrive on May 8, followed by one new episode every Wednesday until June 26, 2024 (nine in total). Dark Matter stars Joel Edgerton alongside Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson,…

Quote
It is a supremely cruel thing to have your mind conjure a desire which it is functionally unable to realize.      No one teaches you how to handle the death of a dream.

Recursion by Blake Crouch
“Life with a cheat code isn't life. Our existence isn't something to be engineered or optimized for the avoidance of pain. That's what it is to be human - the beauty and the pain, each meaningless without the other.”

Every moment, every breath, contains a choice. But life is imperfect. We make the wrong choices. So we end up living in a state of perpetual regret, and is there anything worse?

"What a great read! [...] The book doesn’t just keep you on your toes with unique storylines and mind-boggling plot twists, but also provides an interesting insight into the state of the world. The characters are amazingly written, the setting is original and the story is creative, suspenseful and engaging."
