Hey big fan. How tall do you think the androids in DL are?
Not gonna lie, it's always a bit shocking to hear one has made anything to earn a 'big fan', but thank you very much nonetheless!
As for your actual question, though, I think they're roughly about human height, judging by art? Of course I've gone over how art sometimes varied wildly in height, but as mentioned in that post if you have seen that, Dragalia did seem to try and keep a 'comparison heights' straight, at least. They might not have kept straight if Euden was 4'11 or 5'9 but he was shorter than Ranzal and Luca, etc.
And what we see in the wyrmprints, they seem consistently human in size:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Well, these are both with sylvans, but sylvans are human in height as well, ears notwithstanding, so the point stands).
As funny as it might have been if every android was big or really tiny, I think it probably makes sense that, being created and wished for them to be 'humans' by Maestro, they resemble humanity as much as possible.
Now, just because Laxi, Mascula, and the androids from their era are human sized, others might not be.
Tumblr media
They're a recreation of the older models in another case of Dragalia's humans trying to resurrect older tech, the same tech that made the dragons Very Displeased 1k years ago.
Tumblr media
Now, Eireene and Finni, who unfortunately have among my personal least favorite designs in Dragalia, don't really give any indication either of being a wildly different size than Laxi or Mascula. Like this art here, where they are about the same size as Laxi and in a similar 'dwarfed by Ranzal' category most everyone falls into to varying degrees.
That doesn't mean there aren't standouts.
Anassa, for example, seems to carry a much bigger presence in her art. Being something of a commander and command center for the 1k year old model androids, it stands to reason she might have more weapons built in, more data processors, or other things in greater quantity. While we don't have a model or comparative art to truly say for certain that she is bigger, she certainly looks it.
Tumblr media
(Does she even have legs??? Is she a roomba that would be foiled by anything over a 15° incline or a sudden height change, ex, stairs??? I mean yeah, doesn't she fly and drop down the one time, but even then, there's any number of environments that might make it awkward or impossible to use it to navigate a hazard.)
Ahem. Anyways, the point is that the general androids, be it Maestro's recreations or their elder Nier:Dragalia -er, Ex Machina, a part of the Humanoid Liberation Agency/the ones living in the sky, seem to be human sized. But there might be a few special model ones out there like Anassa who serve a unique and important purpose to justify the time, energy, and resources designing and creating them to fulfill their goal.
Now, admittedly, androids in Dragalia would be a weak point in my general knowledge since they never really quite struck a chord with me enough to inspire a fixation on them, but yeah, as far as I can tell, they're human-sized with perhaps some rare exceptions. The most I can say that might not be wholly normal is their apparent tendency towards a sort of gaunt build, which, to be fair, it's not exactly as if they can build muscle to change that.
Hopefully that answered your question satisfactorily!
#dragalia lost#dragalia#inbox responses#thanks for the ask!#While I uh 'majored' in the royal family I'm more than happy to try and sift through other lore!#So yeah I'm always down to talk Dragalia or Scaling or other video games like Tales of the Abyss!#...I suddenly realized that Dragalia and Abyss share another thing in common: endings that are very much in dispute for what happened.#It's probably one of the top two fastest ways to start an argument among players for Abyss#And while the Dragalia fandom isn't quite so occasionally hostile about differing interpretations it's a funny coincidence.#Anyways. Dragalia. One thing I have a bit of qualm with is how quick the new androids are accepted.#Like Finni 'the emotional one' of the pair you'd expect to be the bleeding heart will casually talk about rampant murder of innocents.#These are androids that have been told over and over that all non-Ark humans are not worthy of life and need to all be killed.#That's not something that completely disappears overnight. Yeah enemy of my enemy and all that but...#When EUDEN is the one expressing the most vague caution to saying 'welcome aboard' you know something's not quite right.#And that in this case is 'is bringing a pair of androids known to have been involved in committing genocide and one of whom has a tendency#...to go berserk into our castle a good idea?'#But yeah this is a rant in tags but. I just don't quite like how they handled that detail regarding the Ex Machina androids.

hi uhm, this chapter is ALOT <3
4 | Appearances
TW’s are in this chapter so uh yip (I’m putting the cut thingy)
Several Years Later
Summer was back in bloom, and there were hardly anymore kids being born. The adults were nervous now that Mothra had been left to live with her marking, as if it was really her fault.
Though, everyday she felt like she was going to pay for that mark. Her father made sure of that.
"Cursed child!" Azar screamed, hitting her with his wings into the floor. "It's your fault that your mother left!" He continued. Mothra winced, her head tilting upward to see her father. She had bruises on her knees, hands, and elbows all the time, a constant pain.
Azar soon left, leaving her alone in the nest again. That's how everyday began and the pain level was different, sometimes it was an easy pain she could get over but other days it was much worse.
Today was a much worse day, but she picked herself off the floor anyways. Mothra brushed off the dust from her wings, letting them expand and shimmer in the morning sun.
Once she bandaged herself up with vines and leaves, she took in the fresh summer air. A gentle reminder that she was still alive despite her not knowing the reason.
The other kids looked at her strangely as she walked past. She didn't mind, or at least that's what she told herself, she had become accustomed to this way of life. She was the only Daku-Moth left until the next mating season.
Mothra kept walking to the beach, finding Saki already waiting for her. Saki and her had been collect herbs and shells on the beach for months, the elder had said it was for the gods or something.
Mothra didn't understand it much but she knew she was related to them through her mother. "Good morning," Saki said happily, giving her a smile.
"Morning," Mothra muttered, taking a silk-like bag from Saki and putting it around her waist. Saki noticed her bandages but said nothing. Every morning, Saki thought.
"Come along, we have much to do," Saki murmured as she led the way. Mothra obliged, shuffling her way across the sand.
It was always quiet in the beginning of their day, though sooner or later, they'd find something to talk about.
Mothra plucked the herbs from the trees,  select few withering away in her hand— much to her dismay. "Curses," she muttered.
Saki looked over, "Are you alright?"
Mothra groaned, rubbing her face. "No, the herbs keep burning up in my hand," she then kicked the sand.
"How much have you collected?"
"Five herbs, the rest are withering," Mothra replied. Saki took off a few more herbs from the tree then placed them in the basket attached to her waist. The elder turned and walked over, grabbing Mothra's hands. "Miss Saki—"
"—Look," Saki stated. Mothra was confused, staring blankly at the moth in front of her.  "You don't wither away the people you care about, that's the extent of your power." Saki released Mothra's hands, "Extend that side to the plants, you want the herbs to heal us and make the gods happy right?"
Mothra hummed in response, "Good, so then, try it." Saki ordered. Mothra turned her attention back to the plants before her, reaching her hand out and focused all of the care and kindness she had her heart to go to her hands.
She slowly plucked the herbs again, finally able to retrieve several at a time. Mothra gasped and smiled, "Saki! Do you see—"
"—Focus child," she replied, not giving Mothra the attention she wanted. Regardless, Mothra went back to work happily.
Saki sighed, smiling a little at Mothra (unbeknownst to her, of course) as she continued to collect the herbs. Though, as she started doing this, her mind began to wander to a talk from a few days ago.
.
.
"So, Saki, how is she?" Kenji asked, sitting on a grassy bed before her.
"I assume she's fine, besides the scars her father leaves her," Saki muttered. Kenji nodded in acknowledgment, "Her powers are growing but I feel as though they're changing as well."
Kenji leaned forward, "Changing?"
Saki signed, placing her hands on her lap. She shifted uncomfortably on her own bed. "Well, it seems that her power affects things she doesn't have a care for— plants and shells, the thing we wanted her to collect while we figure out what he want her to truly do," Saki rubbed the back of her neck. "However, I've noticed that when it comes to me or Aspen, her power doesn't affect us and I don't believe it has anything to do with us being Akari's children," Saki concluded as her gaze fell on the elder.
Kenji took in this information carefully, unsure of how to use it. "Thank you, Saki. I'll keep it in mind."
.
.
Saki shook her head, and focused on anything else besides whatever fate Mothra may face. It didn't stop though.
Once Saki was frustrated enough, she sat down the basket. "Let's take a break," she told Mothra.
"Oh? Okay, it's kind of early though," Mothra murmured but she sat down on the sand with Saki. "Everything alright?" She asked.
Saki chuckled, "I should be asking you that question," she whispered.
Mothra looked down at her bandages for a moment and turned her head away. "It's nothing," she muttered.
Saki sighed and carefully grabbed the younger moths forearm, unwrapping her bandages. A golden string crept around Mothra's arms then to the rest of her body, healing her wounds.
"Thanks," Mothra whispered, not looking at Saki out of embarrassment. "We should get back to work," she stated as she stood up.
Saki winced, How can she keep her head up so high? She thought and joined her as they collected shells and herbs.
𑁍
As Mothra walked around the main gathering area, she noticed the trees beginning to glow and dance in the wind. Midnight, she said, glancing up at the moon.
Everyone was gathered in this place tonight after they had received news of a mass die off of Kaiju in the most recent battle against the MUTO army.
As far as Mothra knew, it seemed like everyone was at war with the MUTOs— no matter how far you were. You weren't safe.
Aspen poked at her arm, "Are you alright?"
"Huh? Oh, yes. I'm quite fine, come on," Mothra replied as she led the way to her spot with her father. Aspen and his family always stood with them, it was the only time her father didn't want a hit or scream at her.
Tonight was about prayers and showing the gods that they needed aid, and that the people of the war were in danger if the gods didn't step in.
Divine Moths were always known for their songs and when they would sing, it seemed like nature responded to their calls with lights and calls of its own.
Mothra scratched her arm nervously, continuing to sing along with all them. Something didn't feel right, then again, most days didn't feel right.
She glanced up at the sky momentarily, sensing a weird presence in the air. The sky flickered and changed color, it wasn't black but rather a purplish-blue.
When she looked down, the ground beneath resembled glass. The people around her didn't reflect in the glass, only her as she stood with her father.
All in an instant, the purple-hued sky and glass-like flooring disappeared and returned to its natural view.
What was that? Mothra questioned, trying to focus back on the song. She saw Aspen glancing over at her, and it made her anxiety bubble in her stomach more. Focus, don't get caught acting out. She reminded. Aspen turned back to the tree.
The song picked up as a white light formed at the base of Aethymia tree, which was the Divine Moths best connection for contacting the gods. It looked like a wisteria willow but its power was much greater than its twin.
The voices went silence as a white mist floated in front of them all. Mothra's eyes landed on it, and suddenly her ears rang loudly. The sky flashed purple again, doing it over and over again— making her eyes shut tightly.
"Don't fear me," a voice told her. "Relax in my presence."
Mothra gasped quietly, "it's that voice again— is the mist you?" She knew she had telepathic abilities but didn't they'd help with her speaking to a spirit.
"Gatix! We come praying for the lives lost and the lives suffering in the wars destroying grasp!" yelled an elder, who happened to be directly in front of the mist on his knees.
Gatix? Mothra questioned in her mind as she watched the mist form into a moth. She was much larger than them anyone there, standing on two legs just like the Akari-Moths and Mothra— the last Daku-Moth.
The elders were all quiet. "Your prayers are heard," it was a deeper feminine voice than the normal ones Mothra heard daily.
"Mother, please have mercy on all of us," another elder murmured.
The glowing white moth twitched, the soft grey-blue eyes shifting momentarily to Mothra (or at least she thought) and then back to the elders.
"Mercy comes at a price, for you must watch your tongue and remember why you are here," Gatix replied. The elders all turned to each other in confusing. "Farewell," was all she said after.
The elders and everyone else watched as she disappeared, all confused and looking around in either fright or wonder.
Mothra glanced up at the sky again, it faded back to black and amongst the stars, she saw a white butterfly flying away.
"Will I be okay?" Mothra asked the goddess, understanding that telepathy was the best form of communication.
"Trust me," Gatix paused, "you'll be fine."
Everyone slowly began leaving and Mothra didn't hear the voice anymore. It seemed a heavy shock and disappointment hung over the crowd.
Aspen gingerly walked off with his family, which left Mothra alone with her father.
"Father?"
Azar turned to her, a scowl on his face. "What?"
"May I stay here a little longer?" Mothra was trying her best to remain polite and calm, but she had the feeling her father wanted to smack her.
"Fine, but be quick and come home when you're done," Azar replied as he walked off.
Mothra waited by the Aethyemia tree until everyone was gone. The silent night falling over her and the world.
She hopped down from the small cobblestone stage that had been built around the base and stood before the tree and its swaying leaves.
"I know you left but maybe you could come back?" Mothra murmured, her purple wings gleaming beneath the glow of the tree. "I used to think you didn't exist, I mean they spoke of you in folktales but I never thought..." Mothra's voice trailed off.
What was the point?
Did she have one?
Why would a god speak to her?
Mothra sighed, hanging her head. "I don't know why you spoke to me, but I'm sure you have your reasons my lady," she spoke.
"Oh, she did," said a male voice behind her. Mothra whipped around and saw a moth similar to her, much taller and darker. "Hello, Mothra."
"How do— Who are you?" She muttered, backing up into the stone stage.
"You don't know your grandfather?"
"Eep!" Mothra jumped and flapped her wings, moving far enough between the both of the moths. An Akari-Moth stood on the stage, she was bigger as well and definitely brighter than anyone else she had seen.
Her wings had orange and yellow ascents, a few blue colors thrown into the mix. "Then again, you were so young," the male said.
Mothra combed through her mind, trying to remember anything her mother could have said. But nothing came up.
"You know your faction types correct?" The girl asked, and Mothra nodded. "Well then, you're off to a great start! I am Akari: goddess of life, the sun, prophecies, healing, and the list goes on!" Akari said with a giggle and a flicker of her wings.
The darker moth sighed, "Akari is also your grandmother, like me— your grandfather. I am Daku: god of death, the moon, and I'm sure the rest you know."
Mothra's gaze kept running between the two. "My grandparents? On my mother's side?"
"Yes," Daku replied, folding his arms. "Gods, you really don't know much."
Mothra nodded, "I can agree with that. Though, why did you both show up now?"
Akari sat down on the stage, "Well, life as a god is busy." She stated as she stretched out her wings. "But we wished to see you, and since Gatix showed herself— We thought we might as well."
Mothra smiled a little, glancing up at the sky once again and noticing that it changed briefly. Akari and Daku seemed to notice her actions.
“Gatix was right,” Akari said telepathically to her soulwing.
Daku shook out his wings a little, "I know, but what if she gets hurt worse?" He relief.
"She can handle it, or at least that's what Gatix said," Akari replied. The moth then slid off the stage, and stood a few inches away from Mothra. She opened her arms and wings as if she was ready to receive a hug. Daku did the same. Then, they waited.
Mothra titled her head. "What am I supposed to do?"
"Hug us silly! Which ever one you feel closest to!" Akari chirped, giggling softly.
"Can I hug you both? I've never seen you two before and... I know mom would want me to hug you both." Mothra stated, her wings folding around her torso.
Akari and Daku glanced up at each other, then slowly came to Mothra and put their arms around her. Akari's forehead pressed against the left side of Mothra's head, meanwhile Daku's forehead pressed against the right.
For once, Mothra felt warm inside and she felt safe within their arms. It's almost like she could fall asleep within their presence or she could do whatever she wished with them nearby.
"Goodnight, Mosura." Their voices intertwined. It was sweet and she wanted to stay like this forever.

omg Pia, I was abt to send this ask gushing about Temsen and how much I look forward to him chewing Gary out.... and also to ask you what kind of fae you think he'd be. *crickets* Um. I have no excuses, I DO read the nascent diplomat. I'm just dumb it seems XD So, alternative question: how come he and Enris are tagged in UtB but not in TND which is their origin story? (Love both to death!!♥)
Hi anon!
There are two answers to this.
The first is that Temsen didn't exist when I first did the tags for The Nascent Diplomat, I literally invented him on the day he appears in the story, and that's like... /thinks/ I've been releasing one chapter a month for a long time, so that was like well after a year of the story being published.
The same with Radula Enris, who I just thought of as a side character who wouldn't matter much.
But secondly, and probably more importantly, I just don't tag my OCs a lot of the time because they don't actually help searches and that's the primary function of a tag on AO3 (aside from the silly/jokey ones, which I still think can help with tone, like 'Augus 'kingfucker' Each Uisge'). I tagged my OCs into Underline the Black because by then I knew that people liked Temsen a lot, for example, and I knew he was going to be a character.
By and large I don't tag OCs because firstly a lot of people reading fic don't like stories with too many OCs, and secondly because it doesn't really help with the search function. No one can search for an OC they've never heard of for example, and the people who do like that OC are likely already reading my stories. Augus and Gwyn imho are different, because they are core characters that people can and do search for.
Tl;dr - People don't search for tagged OCs they don't know the name of and Temsen didn't exist/Enris was only intended to be a fringe character when I tagged The Nascent Diplomat.
(Also lol that's so understandable though re: 'what kind of fae would Temsen be' this is so something my brain would do lmao).

@myimaginationplain replied to your post: I know this post is years old, so sorry for responding when you may have different opinions by now. But the way I see it, fairy tales, despite obviously being a big thing that RGU draws from, aren't the only type of story they're critiquing. imo, "The Tale of the Rose" resembles religious myths more than anything else, namely Pandora's Box & The Garden or Eden. It's a common archetype; that the world was pure & perfect until Woman was introduced to it.
From her ignorant disobedience (Pandora opening the box despite being instructed not to, Eve eating the fruit of Knowledge of Good & Evil & convincing Adam to do the same,) all pain & strife in the world springs. With Pandora & Eve both being the first human women created in their respective mythos, these stories have an inherently misogynistic quality to them. The same is true with The Tale of the Rose; Anthy, seemingly the only girl in the world who cannot be made a — princess (so in some way echoing the "first woman" thing,) is blamed for plunging the world into pain & suffering by disobeying. And is literally crucified for it.
It’s all good.
First: That’s a solid argument and I can see it’s applicability to ‘The Tale of the Rose’.
It brings to mind (α) Bluebeard - where a wife’s curiosity gets her into trouble but she triumphs, and (β) the deconstruction of said myths & fairytales cf. Bluebeard. Basically one of the “morals” at the end of Perrault’s Bluebeard critiques the wife’s being curiosity. I feel that falls into similar ground as Eve and Pandora. This has been pointed out and reimagined in retellings and reinterpretations.
Second: The comparison brings out what makes Anthy’s situation different (to me) is the cause of her “causing harm to the world” and being crucified for it — from what we can glean, she’s acting out of love, though the story presents it as jeslousy (she is the only girl who can never be a princess).
I feel like there’s a lot to dissect in (1) the rewriting & reimagining of religious myths (Eve as a positive force willing to learn & live) via whose telling the story and (2) the witch/princess dichotomy. And I still think it’s very interesting to discuss, so yeah, fun times, good analytic point.
***
My general point, I believe, was: this is what fairy tales mean to me and that is not what’s presented in “The Tale of the Rose’ so from a exclusive fairy tale analysis/archivist perspective, I wouldn’t include it in a fairy tale collection, nor assign it an ATU classification. Which, I think, I still broadly adhere to. But which isn’t related to your point, which was more an additional analysis.

The Everlands - Inhabitants and Histories
A brief overview of the various races on this planet, their origins, and their histories.
TW: Discussion of war and death
Player Warning: This is knowledge of history that the average person may not know. If your character is learned in history or has a source, proceed. If not, proceed anyway its cool, but dont. Like. Metagame with this shit , i WILL drop rocks on you (irl)
Contents:
Humanoids
Giants
Dragons
The War
Fey
Humanoids
First evolving from primates, humanoids took a back seat on the domination of the Everlands for the first few millenia. Trumped by the impossible to defeat Giants and Dragons, humanoids were consigned to simple lives. Kingdoms, Empires, Societies and Tribes all rose and fell in attempts to establish some sort of long lasting power among the chaos of the Giant-Dragon wars.
Once the Giants and Dragons had nearly wiped eachother out, and retreated to their strongholds, hordes and lairs, humanoids began to flourish.
Gods began taking an interest, and various groups began to take shape, imitating their patrons. The Goliath folk of Jathmeysal, the Wood Elves and Hill Dwarves of Kiris, the Mountain Dwarves and Gnomes of Morseth, the Halflings and High Elves of Iubria, and the Yuan-Ti of Okzur were the main players on the stage in this early stage of the now 3 millenia standing civilisation of humanoids.
Giants
The Founder Deity Annam, the Creator, working together with Pylor, the Life Giver, made the Giants, a race of collossal bipedals that were created to suit the various environments of the Everlands. It was Annam that first took an interest in life as creations and subjects rather than pieces of observation. They wanted to be worshipped, and proposed a pantheon to the few other Founder Deities at the time.
The Giants were master craftsmen, building grand fortresses and castles all accross the planet. Each was built as an offering to Annam, as Annam created them, so must they create for Annam.
Dragons
Chosen by the Founder Deity siblings Bahamut and Tiamat, reptilians began growing in power (and consequently size) in a bid to out-perform Annam's Giants. Bahamut gave his chosen the various natural metals of Everlands as their scales, keeping his natural Platinum to himself. Tiamat took her multi coloured exterior to designate her chosen, giving the Chromatic Dragons their colours.
All Dragons envy the Giants for their grand constructions and gifts of creation. To create a longer dynasty, Dragons began associating their power with their possessions, as structures can fall but a collection of wealth can only be redistributed, never destroyed fully. Hence, their obsession with treasure of all forms and gathering a horde began
The First Wars
Bahamut and Tiamat disagreed with Annam's choices to require worship from their creations. The draconic siblings wanted to create a race in their image, but ones that could, in time, rise to their level as equals, while Annam's giants were always capped in power by their worship. This led to a millenia of wars on the Everlands, and the first Divine Champions being born. A few special Giants and a few special Dragons were gifted stronger power to help in their conflict. When slain, their remains scattered the lands, creating springs of magical potential and relics of power. Over time, the war grew slow as each race had lost so many of their numbers they could no longer sustain both a dominant empire with a population and a war. They left the fields of war and returned to their homes, in mountains, caves and seas, leaving the continents to the humanoids.
Fey
The Feywild grew in parallel to the material plane, a chaotic land of free nature and wild magic. Governed by mutual understanding of rules, its inhabitants lived free lives, with the only controlling aspect being that of promises. A fey's promise is magically binding, as long as both parties agree to the contract.
The wild lands could only be controlled by those few chosen of Elas, Titania and Pyria, the Queens of Summer and Winter. They founded their courts, in which political agreements would shape the face of the fey realm. Although not in all-out war, the courts are in an eternal feud. Infrequent skirmishes for land, swinging of allies to either side, and the rare challenge of champions keeps the feud running, as both sidea dont want to rism a full scale conflict.
When humanoid races first started making a mark on the lands, fey ambassadors began travelling through the rifts in the planar walls. These ambassadors seeked their own wealth and power in these new lands, but also to garner allies for their respective courts.
It was one of these ambassador's families that made the most impact on the material plane. In a bid to expand her power, Pyria, during the reselection of champions, chose a mortal elf, Ianix Menalor, to be her champion. In a time of peace in the Fey realm, a champion was not needed in the courts, and so her champion conquered the lands around him. Toppling the first empires on Iubria, Ianix created an empire built on the power of the Fey, and as such an ally in future for the Unseelie court. When he died, he ascended to immortality as Pyria's champion, and left his lands to his children. Trsizara founded Ostintan, a monarchy ruled by advisors, appointing her envious younger brother Ruith as the duke of her father's old kingdom.
The sudden power vacuum when Ianix died caused the planar walls to shatter. The fey realm, shadowfell, and material planes almost crashed, until Elas inteferred. She, along with Nyx, separated the planes, closing the borders. Any fey left on the material plane were trapped, never to return. Only the few permanent portals remained, and they were kept secret by a few of the ambassadors left on the plane. The families of Itharin, Amastacia and Philos kept the portals safe, as any stress on them could break the fragile barriers, and send the material plane into chaos.

So bylers are realzing that Nick guy scammed them 😅😂
That’s actually super sad. But play stupid games win stupid prizes I guess. I hope it’s a learning lesson for all of them and they think next time before they believe some stranger and give him their actual money. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I felt bad at first, but it’s going on and people continue to pay, so it’s on them.

i feel like discourse about hockey (and sport in general) would really improve a lot if more people realized that spectator sport is a form of narrativized media and applied their literacy skills accordingly
#sorry these tags are so long#this is not about anybody on this website i just need to stop looking at the bird app#but actually though media coverage of spectator sports exists to construct narratives around athletes/teams/etc.#so if we look at this whole mitch marner/sheldon keefe bullshit#(which is what has me kicking off about this currently)#positioning the two of them as being opposed to one another within the wider narrative of this leafs team#lends itself to a couple different constructed storylines#the first is the continuation of the Mitch Marner Villain Arc (derogatory)#which is playing itself out as sort of a rise-and-fall story structure wherein marner comes into the locker room as a revered hometown hero#and then through time and tricks is made out to be a Whiny Baby Man Who Wants All The Attention And Plays The Hero Too Much#by the way you should be reading that as:#Mitch Marner Wanted To Be Paid The Value Of His Physical Labour Which Is Considered Morally Reprehensible Under Capitalism#And Therefore Everything He Does Now Is Bad#but i digress#the logical conclusion of this narrative is either he wins a cup with this team or is traded and forever villified in the toronto market#either he has a so called redemption arc or becomes a tale of caution basically#the second narrative is that there is a rift in the toronto locker room#this one's a little more straightforward in that it gives fans a side to back in a theoretical conflict#everybody likes to have a good guy to root for and a bad guy to root against it's really just a matter of who you perceive as being the hero#it also lends itself nicely to an overarching narrative surrounding the team and its playoff struggles#hey everybody look at this team that can't make it out of the first round. what the fuck is up with that.#the fun part about this narrative is that you can project whatever the hell you want onto it#are they overcoming adversity? are they distracted? is this kyle dubas' fault? is the team better or worse for it? you decide!#and at the end of the day all of this drives visibility and clicks#which drives (you guessed it) profit#anyways i'm not saying all this to be like 'hurr durr media bad' or whatever#there's a ton of sport media that is highly informative and responsible and incredibly important and i respect the hell out of (most of) it#what i am saying is that when an article comes up that is not based in verifiable fact#(and even when it is! but especially when it isn't)#please please ask yourselves why the person and/or publication writing it is doing so in the way that they are
