I really like the idea of the bat kids designating Dick and Jason's apartments as sibling gathering spots but for opposite reasons.
Sibling needs some comfort? Some eldest daughter advice? A shoulder to cry on or just a lil getaway spot from the chaos of Gotham? Dick's apartment is perfect.
But if a batkid wants to complain, maybe wants to talk shit about Bruce, or maybe even wants to discuss a lil felony in a judgement free zone? Jason's place it is.
And I like to imagine that while Dick readily keeps his doors open and reminds anyone that they can drop by anytime, it's the opposite for Jason.
Dude's got his place riddled with traps and locked up to the high heavens. He makes it obvious he doesn't want visitors, and vaguely insinuates that there are bombs rigged somewhere in his apartment so there's a always a 50/50 chance you might get blown up if he's feeling particularly bitchy one day.
But does that stop his siblings? Absolutely not. Unlike Dick (who assigns himself as the guiding older brother), Jason has been forcefully labelled as the older sibling you go to if you need to complain and stir up havoc. The hundreds of traps in his place mean nothing. And it's worse because Jason is never prepared for when someone drops in.
-----
[Jason, 3 hours into his sleep, blearily waking up to a weight on his chest at 4am]:
[Damian, perched atop him, eyes dead-centre locked onto Jason without blinking]: Hello, Todd-stop screaming it is unbecoming-I just came to tell you that father won't allow me to adopt another stray I found on patrol.
Jason, half-asleep and like 70% sure he's hallucinating: Wha-
Damian: I need you to blow up his car.
Jason:
-----
[Jason, arriving home after a 6 hour patrol, exhausted out of his mind, turning on the lights]:
[Stephanie, previously baking brownies in the pitch black darkness before Jason arrived]: Oh hey! Just thought I'd drop by, y'know, for fun.
Jason: Bruce yelled at you again.
Stephanie: Bruce yelled at me again.
And yes, while most of the time, it ends up as wholesome sibling bonding, sometimes the other batkids just feel like inconveniencing Jason just whenever, because what are siblings for?
[Jason waking up and seeing all of his traps and security systems disarmed and very deliberately broken in a way where he'll have to replace all of them instead of being able to reactivate them]:
[Jason, immediately dialing his phone angrily]: Tim, I swear to GOD-
-----
[Jason giving himself a rest-day and cooking some meals]:
[Dick somersaulting in through the open window unannounced (he missed his brother)]: Whatcha up to, littlewing? :>
Jason: GET OUT-
-----
[Jason casually reading a book, feeling a sudden chill up his spine]:
[Cassandra standing in the corner without so much as an exhale, watching Jason intensely. Who knows how long she's been there]:
Jason: Are you here to kill me
Cass:
Jason: Just make it quick.

Tim Drake is the kinda guy who has one of those fidget spinner knives cuz he's chronically online and thinks they're cool.
(They're not cool, they get banned from young justice briefings because everyone including Tim gets distracted by them)

Early Jason and Tim dynamic as a mutually parasocial relationship. Jason only knows Tim through pictures. From his perspective he’s the rich kid with no baggage Bruce replaced him with. He just represents further proof that he is unloved. Tim only knows Jason through pictures and a memorial case. To Tim Jason is the Robin that died(failed). Jason represents a fate that is to be avoided at all costs. They both look at each other and see right past one another to project their own meaning. They’re just symbols to each other

batfam headcanon:
Tim and Dick both love Doctor Who and bond over it a lot.
Dick is a Star Wars fan while Tim is a Star Trek fan. They butt heads about it occasionally.
Dick stans R2-D2. Tim stans Kirk (and maybe has a crush on him).
(…okay, Dick 100% had a crush on Leia. and dressed up as Han for Halloween once. or several times.)
Meanwhile, Jason’s vibing with Back to the Future and Lost in Space (and the book The Little Prince).
Dick loves the Avatar movies while Jason loves Avatar the Last Airbender. (Jason gives him shit a lot for them having stolen the name.)

*Jason bein introduced to Speedy!Roy*
Nightwing!Dick: And what do we do when we wanna be someone’s friend?
Robin!Jason: We stare at ‘em.
Nightwing!Dick: No, no. We don’t stare. We introduce ourselves.
Robin!Jason: Then we make a weird noise and run away. *Tries to run off*
Nightwing!Dick: *Grabs Jason by his cape, stoppin him* No, no. We stay right where we are, and we say, ‘Hey, what’s your name?’
Robin!Jason: *Starin at Speedy!Roy* And then we stare at ‘em without blinkin.
Nightwing!Dick: What? No!

There seems to be an idea in parts of Batman fandom that you can’t be fans of two characters who don’t always get along, and it’s very weird to me. Like, I’m a fan of both Damian and Tim. Yes, even when they’re beating each other up, though for the record there’s no particular reason we should keep acting like that’s always their relationship (like currently I’d say Tim & Damian’s relationship more resembles sibling squabbles at worst, not genuine fights).
Just because they fight sometimes doesn’t mean I have to pick one to love and one to hate. Let your faves fight each other sometimes. Especially if they’re siblings. It’s fun.

Gothamites must have THE BIGGEST headache trying to keep track of all the birds and bats. I mean, all the different mantles they uptake during their vigilante tenure, think the robins and the batgirls,, plus all the different names and costumes they take up before settling into whatever DC continuity decides on.
Bonus: You think when one of them goes through an extreme costume change, some gothamites just think a new one has hit the streets?
ALSO, imagine trying to talk about a specific batgirl but it's just:
(For context, in current canon, both Steph and Cass are Batgirl. They're operating at the same time with the same name.)
"Oh, the ginger? She was badass. I dont think she's a Batgirl anymore though."
"No, I'm talking about the other one."
"The other one? Bro, there's more than one."
"The newest one on the scene."
"The purple one?"
"No, bro. She's been on the vigilante scene longer than the other one."
"Bro, no she hasn't. The ginger was the first one."
"I'm not talking about the ginger!"
"..."
"..."
"The one covered head to toe in black?"
"YES!"
"But she was Batgirl before the purple one."
"But the purple one's been on the streets longer."
"But she's the newest batgril?"
"She was a robin before that. The girl one."
"BRO, I KNOW THERE HAS NOT BEEN A PURPLE ROBIN."
"Dumbass, of course not! She wore the same colors as the others."
"Wait. So she wasn't that other purple vigilante?"
"Dude, Spoiler and the purple Batgirl are two different people."
"No way, dude. They have the same cloak thingy. Plus, no way Spoiler would let some girl walk around in her color, she was kinda territorial 'bout it. They have to be the same person!"
"Bro, based on that argument, the Robins might as well all be the same person."
"Ah, that's true... Backtrack, you said the girl Robin. There's been two."
"No there hasn't, dude."
"Yes there has. The second ginger one was a girl."
"There is no ginger Robin, bro, let alone two. Only black haired and one blondie."
"Dude, I swear I'm not lying about that."
.
It must be even worse with the Robins. No one can agree how many there's been, what hair colors they had, if they wore pants or not, if they've died, their age, their gender, what new name they picked up (if they dont think ex. Robin 1 and Nightwing are two dofferent people). It's all chaos.
Just, imagine this:
(Their referring to the Robin toy in the BatBurger kids meal btw)
"What Robin's this thing modeled after?"
"...Definitely not the new kid. That thing's [the toy] pale as the frickin' moon."
"So...one of the black haired ones?"
"Dude, they practically all have black hair."
"Bro...we talked about this last week. There were two gingers and a blonde."
"Yeah, but then Bobby said there was no way there were six robins."
"But then Tiff said there was definitely a blonde one cuz she met the girl a few times."
"Oh, and she did say there was at least one ginger, but he went emo, black box dye or somethin'."
"Oh wait, this one [the toy] doesn't have pants."
"That's still like half of them, dude!"
"Well I'm sorry, Bro! Take it up with the Bat! Tell him to get some fucking variety."
BONUS:
(Situation: someone being held hostage is being saved/handed over to paramedics or something OR report asking the question gothamites are dying to ask)
"Are you ever going to give an official statement on how many vigilantes are operating in Gotham?"
*inaccurate stare translation: Even I don't know how many there are. They keep appearing no matter how many times we do a headcount.*
"Silent treatment, terrific. What if I said a number, this number including you in the count, and then you said higher or lower?"
*small nod*
"Ten?"
*points a finger up, holds back an amused smile in response to the person's godsmacked face, then grapples away*
.
[The next day | someone's reading the article/blog post/tweet]
"There's more than ten of us??"

Batkids gang!AU
So this post will be the checkpoint for this AU
The stuff written around the characters on this drawing are, for the most part, obsolete (especially the ages) or will be slightly changed so only use the character cards as references for them (found in the story's parts)
Some lil details : this AU takes place in the YJ cartoon universe during the 5 (?) years gap between season 1 and 2 (bc I never got over the 1st season). So as you must've guess it we'll see the team, minus Robin obviously,, It is also mostly Dck-centered
I'll try as much as I can to not be too ooc but they're all aged down and most the stuff they went through hasn't happen yet in this universe, only the formative ones kinda..? But they're not vigilantes here, just street kids trying to survive together.
And finally this is just me having fun with the DC universe, please don't take this too seriously. It is mainly supported by headcanons of mine. Im no comics writer and errors will most likely be made but hey that's part of the game and I hope you'll enjoy it nonetheless !
--This AU was inspired by the fic The Birds by @oceanera12 on AO3 read it it's so good--
The story :
here’s the beginning !!
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Part 7
Part 8
Extras : how the gang came to be , pile of siblings , them being siblings

Bat Timeline vs Bat Publication Timeline
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kept my receipts and citations here. I felt canon ages are the best tool to track time. Also, I used cover dates.
Neat things I noticed:
Nothing much happened in Gotham until Robin arrived both in continuity and in print history. Sorry but your lone wolf Batman doesn't exist :P
Dick permanently becomes Batman at the same age Bruce was when he became Batman; 25. Kinda poetic if you ask me.
Babs was Oracle longer than she was Batgirl in both continuity and publication history!!
Completely forgot that Dinah was literally her own mother once upon a time. Weird stuff.
There's not enough Jason!Robin stories to fit the 3 years some fans claim he was Robin for. Also the 3 years idea doesn't work if you track Dick's age. My guess is he was originally younger than 15 when he died but DC aged him up so he could be an adult when he returned as Red Hood.
It's pretty clear that Helena's integration into the group began the expansion of this complicated "family unit". She set the precedent for those noirish vigilante work relations.
Tim has to be a vampire if he's meant to be 17 three whole very explicit in-continuity years after he had his 16th birthday.
Stephanie has basically been in this gig as long as Tim! And almost as long as Helena too. Proper seasoned ass-kicker who Damian should look to for pointers.
Also remembered that Cassandra's Batgirl run is the best thing to come out of Gotham in the early 2000s.
I dunno I think the One Year Later timeskip was just unnecessary.
Kate and Renee are almost as new to the vigilante gig as Damian!
Bat-adjacent Rose Wilson was said to be 14 during her first appearance around Year 15 so she's the same age Tim.
Not Bat related but Lian Harper's age works with my timeline so yay! Born early Year 14, she's 5 during Cry for Justice in Year 19.
I have a theory, based off of Batman #416, that Dick graduated high school at 17. He says he was Bruce's partner for 6 years and that after he was fired; he left college after the 1st semester, then moved around the country, had his own adventures, and "eventually" ended up with the Titans. Also, he was 21 during the Titans' 3rd anniversary (New Titans v2 #71) and 19 when he became Nightwing (Tales of the Titans #44) so the Titans (re-)formed when he was 18. This means he probably only turned 18 in the academic year he began college (or has a summer birthday). So he was Bruce's partner from ages 11-17, did his own thing for a while as he did in the 70s, eventually joined the Titans at 18, and became Nightwing at 19. Jason comes into the picture soon after Dick retires the Robin identity.
