A very intriguing old jeans reusing project: a pillow cover with ombre hexagons by Cristina Garay at Remodela Casa. Kudos!

I spent my last few days working on these! They're a gift for a friend's birthday.
First is a decorative basket made out of cat tails, and a few corn leaves at the top. I collected the materials earlier in the year and dried them, that's my first cat tail basket!
The flower-shaped pillow is made out of old t-shirts that were no longer wearable, it's mostly cotton, and I used the filling I took out of old pillows that other people threw away (I washed it). My friend loves the color blue the most, so I made one side two different light-blue, and the other a dark blue fabric.
Completely environmentally friendly gifts. And my friend liked them a lot.

Hey, I swear a little while a go you shared how to make a DIY back pillow, a lumbar pillow for a chair, but I have checked all your masterposts and can't find it. Am I imagining this post? Ta
DIY lumbar pillow
I'm pretty sure I did, but I can't find it either for some reason.
Anyway, here's three tutorials on how to make your own:
DIY lumbar roll (Mash Up Mom)
How to make a lumbar pillow (Sailrite)
No sew lumbar support pillow (Instructables)
You can also roll up a sweater to serve as a make-shift lumbar pillow if you're in a pinch, but an actual pillow's much more comfortable.

Gifts of big pillows!
One set of pillows for a housewarming present for a friend. My mom saw the first set and stated that it would be so nice if I could make her a set as well. So. A second set of pillows for my mom for Christmas.
I accidentally cut the back panels of mom's pillows too small but I am super happy with my work-around!
The fabric is all from Ruby Star Society's Speckled collection. The pattern is called "Simone" by TaraLee Quiltry.
A final note, two of the 26"×26" pillow forms from Ikea make each pillow the perfect amount of stuffed!

So! I'm sewing again today, and this time I'm making a gift for a friend's birthday. Me and her are both pokemon fans, and I decided to gift her some self-made pokemon merch. I settled to make a pillow!
Tumblr media
I saw these and I think they're perfect, they're not over the top, look very simple and insanely cute to have. Now, I can't exactly print a picture on a piece of fabric, but I figured I can make them by just sewing fabrics on and creating the faces that way, we'll see how it goes.
I have to figure out which pokemon I can make first, by checking out what color fabrics I can use. I draped the pokemon-friendly colors on my bed to figure out what can be done here.
Tumblr media
I can immediately see I have everything I need to make a Pikachu, but I had hoped to be able to also do Bulbasaur, or Eevee, or Dratini. The turqouise fabric you can see is overly textured and I can’t make it work for this. I have enough pink fabric to make one of the pink pokemon, and I didn't want to make a choice right away, so I settled on making a good pillow from scratch first.
Tumblr media
I picked the red sweater fabric to make the pillow itself, it's extremely soft and it will make the pillow feel even softer to have it wrapped in something like that. The pillow you already see here is just a size reference, that’s how big I want mine. Pillows are extremely simple to make, you cut out 2 rectangles, sew together, leave one hole for the filling, then fill, and stitch up the hole. However, I had made an error of judgment with my red sweater fabric:
Tumblr media
It looks bulky!! It's such a soft fabric that the filling is bulking out and the fabric fails to smooth it out. I'd be okay with it if I was making a pillow for me, but I'm making a professional looking merch for a gift, so I'm going to be particular about this. I'm making another, sturdier pillow, and then I'm going to put this soft red fabric onto that, to make it double layered and extra smooth.
Tumblr media
I have a lot of pillow filling because I tend to.. find pillows, and then take them apart for the filling. I used to make pillows before I had the filling, and I would just put, the leftover pieces of soft sweaters, and generally soft fabric in there, and, they were still good pillows, and nobody could tell the difference.
Okay, we have the pillow now, time to make the pillowcase. I took time deciding which other pokemon to make, and figured I would make Pikachu from one side, and a Jigglypuff from the other. So I cut out the exact sizes (note that I still didn't measure absolutely anything, I pressed those fabrics around the pillow and decided it will probably be okay) and started adding the cut-out pieces of fabrics to create the face! (What you see is just the fabric draped over the red pillow, so I could see how it would look on a complete pillow.)
Tumblr media
So these things only look good if you manage to pinpoint the measurements and the distance between the features exactly as it is in the original, and I've never been able to figure out where I go wrong with pikachu, I can only tell it looks 'off'. So to get that original-looking vibe, I took this picture, and compared it with the original pikachu by layering it on top and making it half-transparent. Here you can see that the mouth is too big, the red circles are too low, the nose is not centered.
Tumblr media
So after fixing to make it look it correctly, I started sewing the pieces one by one, and I'm not going to lie, it took forever. And since I didn't pin these in place, they kept falling off, so I actually ended having to take the picture and make the comparison and adjustment about 5 more times. By the time I was done with the pikachu stitching, it was past 5pm, and I've started this process at noon. At noon!
I was tired, but determined to finish this today, I started cutting out the eyes of Jigglypuff:
Tumblr media
I want to say this one was easier to stitch together, but I would be lying. By the time I was done with this one, it was 8pm. I wasn't even taking breaks for this one. I also had to fix it by layering it on top of an original image, or else it would not look authentic. I did sew one eye wrongly and had to re-do it. That was tough times.
So after doing this for all day, I just wanted to make it into a pillowcase and see it on a pillow, so I rushed to stitch the two together, and I will probably revisit it tomorrow and hem the visible edge, and maybe consider adding in a button to close it, but here they are, at the end of the day!
Tumblr media
Though I do think that Jigglypuff isn't 100% convincing and would look like a pink owl to the un-initiated, I also happen to love owls and so does my friend so this isn't the most horrible outcome. Her birthday is in 5 days, I'm excited to bring her this! Isn't it super on theme to have Jigglypuff on a sleeping pillow? She sings a songs that makes everyone sleep, and she's soft as a balloon, it makes perfect sense you’d want to sleep with your head on top of her. Also look how smooth they are, with three layers of fabric! I’m pleased.
