This next drawing/illustration is from 2010 during my Drawing 2 class taught by @lorenmyhre . It was actually hard to pick from the work created in 2010 because how Loren had us work was so much fun with a lot of line work, color, and stylization; there’s a whole body of work I made during this time that is intriguing. I always enjoyed classes with Loren because of the way he described images and the art he exposed us to. Back in Sculpture class, he showed us a video of Watts Towers, ever since its been my dream to go visit the towers. Watts is a neighborhood of southern Los Angeles known for the Watts Riots of 1965. The original Tiffany blue (before the widely known and current one was decided upon) and the first instance of it ever being used in architecture. These are also two of the only eleven intact and in use Austrian crystal chandeliers in the world. All eleven priceless chandeliers are in this room. The restored exterior of the Ponce de Leon Hotel, an exclusive luxury hotel in St. Augustine, #Florida. The #hotel was built by millionaire developer, Standard Oil co-founder, and founder of what became the Florida East Coast Railway, Henry M. Flagler. Opened January 10, 1888, the hotel was designed in the Spanish Renaissance style as the first major project of the New York architecture firm Carrère & Hastings. The hotel was also one of the first buildings in the country wired for electricity from the onset, with the power being supplied by DC generators installed by Flagler's friend, Thomas Edison. During World War II, the Ponce de Leon Hotel was taken over by the federal government and was used as a Coast Guard Training Center. Six Years ago on April 18th, 2013 was my last exhibition at @crispellertart @flaglercollege I presented my BFA work, In The Garden of Life and Death. I am still very proud of the work and stand by what I created. My goal is to one day show this work again in a gallery or museum, but for now I will just take you on a ride with each painting and process through the next couple of days. I am still so thankful to have had my work used to promote the show in @oldcitylife especially knowing it was the day we celebrate Spain too. Would I have known Spain as well as Mexico (mentioned in a previous post about St.Aug.)would become part of my future and part of my past at that time none of it would blow my mind now. I’m glad to have my mind blown by all the signs that sat in front of my face my entire life that I ignored among signs related to other events in my life unrelated to Spain and Mexico. I am excited to embark on my new path, to continue writing screenplays, attend film festivals, create films, work with people in the film industry, traveling out of the US, calling attention to immigration and the rights of migrants, women’s rights domestic and abroad, and continuing to make artwork on my terms.
