I woke up at 3am and scrambled to write this down 'cause I thought it was the most philosophical thing... God, I wish I could make my asleep brain write everything.

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Man, there's so much weird shit.

Uhh, I think the grossest was probably about brain and blood parasites. That shit still keeps me up at night.

The worst was obviously about concentration camps and conversion therapy. That one fucking sucked ass, just reading it was awful.

The dumbest was, "What's temperature is a dead body?" The absolute clownery I felt trying to calculate was just top-tier idiocy. Jaysus.

My favorite is probably a split between Romani and Native American folk lore. I could spend hours talking about it. It's just so fascinating, and there's really nothing quite like it?

The most ridiculous was probably about beer glasses. There's like the main 8 types of beers, and then there are 13 different kinds of glasses? Something like that, I don't know. As soon as I no longer needed the information, I purged it from my brain, lol.

🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?

Damn, like one specific thing? I have no idea.

I would probably say music would be like the most prevalent one?

I mean, obviously, other books and folklore and stuff, but I would say music is the one consistent thing in all of my projects.

I think that it [music] helps my process, inspiration, my focus, even down to my mental health that I would I say I owe a lot to music. None of what I just said makes sense, but that's fine! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pffftt well, I've been "editing" my book for the past two years, so..... Joking aside, I would probably give it a solid 8. Nothing is as good as seeing all the hard work you've put in and then just giving it that extra little cherry on top!

So I have this fun little thing called ADHD...... But yeah, honestly, I'm incredibly chaotic, and while trying to keep up with the real-life stuff and all the distracting stuff and all the projects I got going...... Yeah, that's why I'm typically up until 2 am writing lol

Anytime Hakoda takes Sokka for some father-son bonding time, Sokka relentlessly insists Zuko come along. Zuko and Hakoda think he's just being a clingy boyfriend, but he just wants to show Zuko that he is deserving of love from a father figure and that Iroh isn't just doing it out of guilt.

(In turn, Iroh tags along from time to time, and their trips quickly go from family bonding to a dad joke battle)

Guys, go Google New England Vampire Panic. Very interesting to read about, and also a good band name if you're from New England!

Even if you absolutely suck at it, if it's something you love, do it with all the confidence in the world, and you'll find your place.

+ Nobody's as confident as they claim. It's all a production. Fake it 'til you make it, but don't sell your soul over it.

So I've recently gotten into Baldur's Gate, and I just really fucking need Gale and Astarion on like a buddy cop mission where it's just absolute clown to clown communication. Gale being his waxing poetic self, and Astarion is far too emo and far too gay for this shit.

I don't know! I'm willing to bully all my friends until one of them picks it up or I just do it myself lol

Don't force it. If it's not coming to you take a break don't chase it! You'll only wear yourself out and hate what you did write.

Rome wasn't built in a day, but it sure burnt down in one. Remember that.

Here's a fun little fact about me, I'm brutally honest sometimes to the point of offense 😅 and I don't ever really have a need to lie.

That being said, I love randomly lying to strangers for literally no reason. Just recently, someone was being rude and interrupted my dinner with my family, so when they asked what I did for a living, I gave them a very detailed description of how I work in a morgue. I've never worked in a morgue a day in my life lol but it got them to leave me alone.

So I answered the username part over here, so I'm going to answer about my pen name now!

I actually changed my pen name fairly recently to Gabryél Grimm-Goretz. Gabryél is actually part of my legal name 😅 and so I thought it would be cool to use it because i never get to use it day to day. I went with Grimm-Goretz to kinda represent my family and heritage in a way while also leaning into how my writing is typically grim and gory.

Like this blog for example, I love doing it, I love helping you guys where I can and interacting with you all, but we all know the internet can be a very draining and daunting place especially for creators/artists. Not only do you have to do the thing, but then you have to go around waving the thing you did in everyone's face, and many people aren't so nice about it.

I don't know, I have this fun little thing where I want to be loud and start a revolution and take over the world, but also if I talk to stranger for longer than five minutes then I'm ready to move to the woods and adopt a reclusive old hag lifestyle 😅

Okay, I'm gonna do a couple because I'm not sure if this is about my characters that I ship or others, so I'm going to use it as an excuse to gush about both.

Canon ships v

Others: Korra/Asami (The Legend of Korra)

● They've learned to love themselves through the other's eyes. Korra thinks she's too headstrong, which is what Asami adores the most about her, and Asami thinks she wears her heart on her sleeve too much while that's what made Korra fall for her. Because they know that's what got the other's love, it's made them take pride in those parts of themselves.

Mine: Jared/Jayne

● He thinks her calm balances out his crazy, but she thinks his calm balances her crazy. They have a perfect yin and yang to their relationship but really have no idea. They're just following their instincts, and it's always right. They just know the other is exactly what they need and try to repay it to the other in the best way they can.

Noncanon ships v

Others: Steve/Bucky (Marvel)

● They know everything about each other, the good, the bad, and the ugly and love each other because of it, not in spite of it. If Bucky decided to go on a murderous rampage, Steve would be right by his side. If Steve got excommunicated from the US, Bucky's already packed their bags because it's til the end of the line.

Mine: Conner/Parker (It would, could, and probably should never ever happen but like it's there...)

● They have a kind of synchronicity, in a way. Especially with the hard stuff, like emotions. They're both just so in sync with each other, if Conner's had a stressful day Parker's already rented Ghostbusters and is making popcorn, if Parker's fighting with his family Conner makes it a big deal to remind him that there are people that love him. It's just ahh.

You know what's weird?

What is just super weird when you think about?

Names.

Names are so weird! They are just stupid little sounds we make to get each other's attention, but we put so much meaning to them to the point where they can really make or break a person through the lens of society, which is ridiculous when you consider a majority of us don't even get to pick our own!

That being said, after a very long consideration and a very, very strange conversation with myself, I've decided I'm changing my pen name!

Yes, for the time being, Izzy Gentz & gentzelpretzel will be placed on an indefinite hiatus. I don't think I will be getting rid of them forever, but for now, I think it's time for a little change.

Not to get all mushy on your dash, but I did pick out Izzy Gentz when I first started writing in high school.

From my perspective, that was a while ago, and while I very much still identify with who I was back then, I do feel like I have grown a lot as well.

The name was picked through jaded eyes at the time as an attempt to cover something I was insecure about, which was having a Latinx name and being Latinx.

While I was growing up, the outside world told me people that look/sound/speak/dress/think like me got nowhere and it's taken a long time escape that conditioning.

I'm the same as I ever was, but now I take pride in it more than ever.

And if you would please allow me to reintroduce myself!

My name is Gabryél Grimm-Goretz.

You're still welcome to call me Izzy if you want. That's still me! But professionally, for now, I will be using Gabryél!
