Okay, so you know how when you travel a lot you usually have that one random, mostly pointless item that just stays in your suitcase for no apparent reason? I present to you: Team Red's Random Suitcase Stuff!

CARMEN: A deck of playing cards, kept in her carry-on. A pickpocket's hands always like to be busy, and Carmen busies hers with a deck, just shuffling them over and over, dealing herself a round of solitaire if there's time and a convenient table (and yes, she cheats even when playing with herself; it drives Player nuts because there's literally no reason to do that!). Or, if the sibs or Shadowsan are up for losing, a game of poker or blackjack or what have you. She taught herself a couple of tricks, too, a simple oil-and-water or force, and has rightfully earned herself the title of Really Cool Sorceress among the kids in her mother's orphanage.

IVY: A car hobbyist magazine. It's an old one; she's read it cover to cover, even the boring stories, and it's practically falling apart, but she hates not having *any* reading material more. She keeps meaning to replace it, but just hasn't gotten around to it.

ZACH: A bag of cheese puffs "for emergencies." It's probably expired, but, eh, everyone knows those dates are just suggestions.

PLAYER (during his gap year traveling with Carmen): A Gameboy Advanced complete with game cartridge (always charged; he's no slacker). Yeah, he has some games on his phone and knows how to pull up Pac-Man and Minesweeper on Google, but there's just something about a Gameboy that makes it better for unwinding in the hotel. Plus Zach and Ivy love taking turns on it; many a hotel night has been spent with the four of them (because Carmen's not about to be left out) piled on a bed crowding around whoever's turn it is and providing commentary.

SHADOWSAN: Nothing. He is orderly and disciplined and knows how to keep his belongings in their proper places; he does not have anything like that.

(he's lying, because in a little-used pocket there may be a polaroid photo of Carmen, Zach, and Ivy from that time Ivy found a camera in the closet under the warehouse stairs and wanted to see if it worked. If fell in there completely by accident, and he's been meaning to ask Ivy if she wants it but....well, he's been busy. He'll say something the next time he sees her...if it comes up.)

BONUS:

JULIA: A book. Specifically a (dense) nonfiction work about English medieval life encompassing the early, high, and late middle ages. She's read it a few times, but in her defense it's a very compelling read.

("Bah! Of course you would have a book, Miss Argent, filled with facts and things." "What's wrong with a book?" "It is predictable. Now, my suitcase: one would never guess I'm carrying-")

CHASE: Mints.

Our Dating Sim is easily my favorite Korean BL of the year so far. EASILY! It's giving me good pacing, a good plot, and color-coded boys in love.

Eddy, our Green Guy, is a MENACE! This man told Ian, the potential Blue Boy, that he is Gameboy, has been following his blog like a boy with a crush, and that he isn't going to let Ian run away again.

And he did it IN THE BLUE, which is Ian's potential color!

Look at the barrier between them! Is Ian wearing green?!

Because Eddy is relentless, he made up his mind that Ian was going to feel his color love one way or another.

Sidenote: the characters on the board are in blues and that peach color, so is Ian actually a peach/orange color? I gotta figure out this kid's color! It has to be blue though. It just has to be!

Eddy takes Ian back to where it all started for them, and Ian is surrounded by Eddy's love color. He reveals that he has Ian's camera.

Even in the library, the blue and greens are there (Ian has to be blue. He just has to!).

But the best part is when both of them WALK THE LINE!

Eddy keeps getting closer to the true issue between them, but Ian keeps avoiding it and walking away ON THE LINE. They are both walking the line that connects them between honesty and avoidance, literally and figuratively, but Eddy finally closes the distance and confesses.

Look at the red over his heart! It became more exposed as the episode continued, finally being revealed once Eddy confessed. I don't know if the W is significant but he does like Lee Wan.

These four episodes have fed me so well. I love this show. Don't disappoint me!

Jonesy was born and raised in the suburbs of Long Beach raised on TV dinners and jeopardy. His parents were hippies who got together, vowing to never settle down and instead to live freely. However, when his mother got pregnant with their first kid, reality came to a head. Soon they were looking into school districts and jobs with decent benefits. A perfect nuclear family was soon moving into the suburbs. Though that wasn’t for long. It was never the life that his mother wanted, she started to get antsy and soon enough she was out the door without a word. 

Their dad was never the same after she left. He became closed off, distant, and strict. It eventually became too much for his older sister and she set off too. The only she left him was a promise to come back for him and an old copy of a Sonic Youth CD. So eventually it was just him and his dad. Jonesy had never been able to break past his dad’s cold facade and finds it difficult to relate to him. Most of the time he’s pretty sure his dad hates him and only puts up with him because Jonesy pays him half of the rent.

Jonesy can be a bit of a smart mouth, pessimistic, and frankly a bit of a loser. He’s always been reserved and prefers to live life from behind the camera, recording memories instead of living them himself. However, recently he’s been getting antsy, he’s about to start his last year of university and enter the adult world and worries that he might have missed out on some vital college experiences. He wants to make mistakes, that is if he’s able to get out of his own way.

Yeah same!!! I am a sucker for angst and whump so here’s an idea:

So we’ve established that Vinny isn’t getting jumped by the animatronics like Mike was cuz he’s actually awake.

However. That doesn’t mean he’s not aware. He’s awake all night cuz he’s playing video games. The man is NOT paying attention until he hears heavy footsteps down the hall and he goes to check it out and “How’d Chica get there?”

He’s freaked so he leaves for the night. That Steve Raglan guy said he was his own boss, anyway. No one would know he left early.

But he does REALLY need that money so he returns the next night and he’s still on his gameboy throughout the night but he’s doing that thing where as a kid when you were up past your bedtime and you’d look to your door every few seconds to make sure your parents weren’t nearby except he’s looking up to the cameras every few seconds to make sure the animatronics haven’t moved.

Unfortunately something happens in his game that requires some more attention and he’s not looking at Foxy for a period of time and oh hey what’s that noise.

He looks up. Foxy’s gone. Nope. Nope. He’s outta there.

And guess who’s at the end of the hall, ready to charge when he steps out the office to leave and guess who barely makes it out alive by the skin of his teeth :)

Mega Man 7 Thoughts

I understand MM7 to be underrated, but I really liked it!

I think the bright, cartoony graphics really pop in 16 bit

Honestly, Mega Man X and X2 have yet to convince me. Yes, they have smoother gameplay and weapon hot swapping, but the mavericks themselves and the music hasn’t impressed me as much. And obviously level design is kind of lost on me as a “cheater” which is a little unfair

Shade Man and his stage, amazing. Maybe best robot master yet

Spring Man’s stage is great

Slash Man’s dinosaur stage is cute

Jet pack is back on the menu, boys!!!!

I love proto’s shield being usable even if he isn’t playable yet

First classic mega man with hot swapping

Brutal final boss, those homing shots are really something

Really fun weapons, my favorite is the sound wave gun that gets stronger if you bounce a shot back to yourself first

I wish there was an easier way to hot swap to the adaptors, or a way to customize which weapons are quick-equipped for the L and R buttons

I continue to just use a password to get all the items for the final stage, as much as I love the idea of a shop and encouraging grinding to increase the longevity of the game back in the day

Side note: I booted up Mega Man for the Game Gear and ended up skipping it. The promise of Mega Man V’s unique solar system robot masters on Gameboy was enough to get me to play the first four Gameboy titles, which this game lacks, but also this game feels more like a 1:1 shrinking of 6 classic stages rather than a reimagining. As a consequence, the camera follow mega man which started to make me feel a little sick what with all the jumping the little guy has to do.

Up next is Mega Man Power Battle, which I believe I can play as part of the GameCube anniversary collection, but I suspect I won’t “beat” it unless there’s a super easy mode or cheats. Which means that X3 is the next main game!

Fire Emblem Engage.

This was unfortunately leaked halfway through 2022. I know somebody got whipped for that. Everyone thought Alear's design was WILD. Even for fire emblem. Most people (including me) shrugged it off and kept it moving. But, later, during the 2022 direct, Alear appeared. It was real.

First off, everyone in this game was designed by Mika Pikazo. She's a popular light novel illustrator. You may of seen her work relating to animated works and merch you've seen around. Some of her most popular recent work was the design of a mouse vtuber. Here's an interview with her that comes to mind.

Her art is definitely the most "anime" looking art in all of FE. Intelligent Systems clearly wanted to go the extravagant route with the look of this game, so they chose her.

She was given an assignment, and she understood it. Many shapes, colors and themes are present in everyone's designs. Even compared to the rest of the cast, these are the most "out there" designs. And they're great. I would love to see the art made for the other characters. If they exist.

Both the plot and gameplay revolve around emblem rings. Rings that can summon past lords of fire emblem games. Their abilities are fantastic references to their character, story, and game. All original voice actors also returned. Hearing Greg Chun behind the mic again was a treat. A good chunk of the story is spent chasing after these things.

Speaking of story, just like the character designs, it's incredibly campy. It doesnt take itself seriously, forming an insane tonal shift from the mood three houses went for. It's not at all bad though, I enjoyed it. The roster is quite amusing. They're not that deep though. Then again, there's lots of characters in this franchise that are that deep. Not a bad thing though.

My favorites turned out to be Zelkov, a mysterious man who speaks in a *particular* way, and Saphir, a woman who started with nothing, becoming one of brodia's greatest knights.

The presentation has been upped too. Character specific animated portraits take up the screen when selecting on a unit, and the combat animations are far more exaggerated and stylized. A blue trail followers Alear's sword as she unsheathes it, characters move at insane speeds, swordmasters are straight doing the judgement cut, and the camera goes crazy as all of this happens.

I said it before, but Engage feels like a game that somehow escaped the GBA containment. So many of the things in this game remind me of something i'd see on the gameboy advance, or the 3DS even.

In a good way of course.

I was looking for a CD of the band Sweet Pill because they only got the one album but its really really good, and i saw they sell vinyls and cassettes on bandcamp, and I was like well. I cant take a vinyl to work with me. And the Jensen cassette player I just found has AM/FM radio too, all of this is appealing to the part of me who wants to stop existing in current year and go back a little. Im gonna be 29 years old, in 2024, listening to cassettes and playing gameboy color games on actual hardware, not an ad in sight, nobody offering me a rewards program. Its gonna be like camping in the woods
