5 programming languages in 5 weeks | #5in5weeks Coding Challenge 💻
Tumblr media
Hiya hiya! I wanted to create a challenge for myself but thought why not share it with other people! I decided I should dip into learning a bit of the programming languages I wanted to learn but always said “I’ll learn them later!” Later might never come with how busy I have become these days, so learning just the beginner stuff will suffice for now! And that is what the challenge is!
The challenge itself does not only have to focus on programming languages (I only said 5 programming languages for the people who are really new to programming or only know 1 or 2 languages) but the challenge can include frameworks and libraries.
Example programming languages:
☀ Java
☀ JavaScript
☀ C / C++ / C#
☀ PHP
☀ Ruby
☀ Python
☀ GO
Tumblr media
☀ Pick 5 programming languages you want to use for this challenge - bonus points if you never worked with the language in the past
☀ Learn the basics of each language e.g. syntax, what environment to work in, learn how to print, basic maths, etc
☀ Learn each language for 7 days - it does not need to be 7 days in a row (those who are extremely busy) but bonus points if you do 7 days, 5 weeks consecutively
☀ Use the hashtag #5in5weeks or #5in5WeeksCodingChallenge - to track your progress for your blog and for others to see on Tumblr (or anywhere really)
☀ OPTIONAL: you can include pictures on your posts
☀ OPTIONAL: on the 7th day of each language, build a simple, basic project! You can share it on your post, if you wanted
Tumblr media
In the posts, you can talk about what you learnt about the language. If you wanted, you could include the resources you used to help you learn. Talk about what you found easy to understand and what was hard to get the grasp off! But to be honest, you can talk about anything!
If you choose to include the mini project at the end of the week, you can talk about the project, again including the ups and downs!
Tumblr media
These prompts are completely optional! But I will definitely be using them~!
💌 Day 1: What are you most looking forward in learning [insert prog. language]?
💌 Day 2: What are your three goals with learning [insert prog. language]?
💌 Day 3: How do you print “Welcome to Earth!” in [insert prog. language]?
💌 Day 4: What has been easy so far from learning [insert prog. language]?
💌 Day 5: What has been difficult so far from learning [insert prog. language]?
💌 Day 6: Favourite topic so far from learning [insert prog. language]?
💌 Day 7: Will you continue learning [insert prog. language] after this challenge? Why?/Why not?
Tumblr media
I really hope I can complete this challenge! I really want to try some languages I have been scared of continuing or trying, e.g. C++...
Again, this challenge is more for me to track my progress but anyone else can join!
That's all and have a happy day programming! ♡

“Greetings, residence of Kyokusei Dorm. We'll, from what I can see from here, you've all still got pitiful looks on your faces. At this point the end result is obvious, even without the Advancement Exam. Perhaps it would be easier if you all just left the academy right now. Only a brief time has passed since I came to stay with you, and while I have been staying here at the dorm, I've had many. let's just say, opportunities to sample all of your dishes. The flavors were often erratic and sometimes a complete mess. I've lost count of the number of times I've delivered my criticism. However, I can say with certainty, every dish of yours shared the quality of freedom. Now look, you'll never live up to your true potential if you continuing staying down in the dumps and just allow yourself to flunk out now. It's Pathetic! Are you going to roll over like this? It's not a question of getting through it. You must simply forge your own path with your cooking. If all of you have the will to fight on and wish to continue staying here, I shall use my God Tongue and support you in realizing your potential. Those of you without the will to fight should leave right now. I will only face this exam with those of you who have the strength needed to forge on. Now, if you believe you are truly honorable chefs, then step up to the plate and follow my lead!”

The Blackout day or Rebirth day journey by Francois HUYNH
created the 11.20.2015
Pre-intro: I, Francois HUYNH, founder of AD Avenue Group, declare as the sole inventor and creator of an innovative, breakthrough method for relaxation, mind focusing and enlightening meditation called "re-Birth day".
One day per month is chosen to be on your own and only by yourself to celebrate and meditate. It is like a day off or birth-day but you're celebrating it differently.  By reconnecting with yourself as an insight into the connectivity of the universe one has a path to evolve into a better more successful self.
The context: I consider myself by definition inspired by Tim Ferries. His books come highly recommended. I like to believe I am rich in experiences, progressive in outlook and prefer flexibility over routine.
I am an entrepreneur, lecturer in prestigious academic institutions and founder of international organizations.  I feel busy, I love being busy and I love my job.
People ask me while smiling nervously: "With all your projects and demanding occupation, do you sleep? I would always respond to them: -I do sleep a lot, I might sleep more than you do!   Because when you're happy and successful a good night’s sleep comes easy.   Again: "You work every day! How do you rest?" -I choose 1 day off I call it the Blackout day or Re-Birth Day and I have included this in my schedule for almost two years.
“It is a pleasure to share what has become an indispensable part of my life with hopes all those reading this will also find it a useful technique for improving one’s overall disposition and sense of well being.”
The 10 rules of the Re-Birth day. Each rule is important. They are fully integrated while each one has a specific application so try to embrace the process in its entirety.
1. Power down, no gadgets, no work, embrace your aloneness. 2. Never say "when" and "what" you're doing during Re-Birth day 3. Never do something common 4. Travel, get away, even if it is a long walk. 5. Be and Look 100% natural, no contrivance or posing 6. Eat well and healthy 7. Meditate on Past, Present, Future 8. Meet one new person during the course of the day.   9. Prepare your before and after Re-Birth day 10. Share your experience
Rule N°1. "No devices, No work, be alone" Like any day off, you don't work or think of work and this gets more interesting. Your phone will be disconnected from wifi, data with voicemail on, or on mute to not get distracted by it. If your daily life requires a phone in case of an emergency like if you are parents, keep it close for an urgent call, but don't look at it. Your journey will begin with no music at all, no screens, only you, the environment and the natural sounds of everything that you will go through during this special journey. Pay attention to any sound, especially the sound you make, when you walk, when you breathe, your heartbeat when it is calm enough. Don't work, you have plenty of time to do it the day after. Work and focus on yourself, this is the most important job of the day. Rule N°2. "The Silence" Nobody knows when exactly you will launch your Blackout day/Re-Birth Day and where. This is an essential rule. This is a unique freedom that you can control.  Even your spouse or partner and close ones do not have to know where you are. If someone asks you, you can say - I was relaxing, I shut off my phone. You will notice after few months, that even YOU, wouldn't know exactly what you are about to do, this is part of the therapy. You will embrace the spontaneous moment, the ability to change your mind and motivating your actions with your feelings and not by a hectic calendar or what people expect you to do. You are going to enjoy the surprise of acquainting yourself with the unknown.
Rule N°3. "Never do something common" Avoid activities that you would normally do on a regular day off. No gym, no movies, no shopping, no nail salons, and hairdressers, no mall... Do something special, something unique that your memory can place on a timeline and so you can remember it at a moment's recall.  Establish a journal with a few heartfelt notations to keep track of the things you do and the feelings that this day triggered in you.
Rule N°4. "Travel" Take a mini vacation to an unexpected destination.  Avoid the direct route to your home or workplace.  Take the road less traveled.  The goal is to get off limits, extend the boundaries of your existence.  Discover a place you have never been, discover new grounds. Take the train, bus, plane and go far, far enough to feel your mind traveling through space and time, no matter the distance. While you're traveling, your mind would feel free of options, you won't know exactly what is going to happen, you're going to challenge your inner fears restricting you from enjoying life as it comes. When you travel, look at everything and everyone traveling with you. You will enjoy it, believe me. You can pick some specific places in your life to go by, for example, your hometown, the restaurant you met your significant other or a place you have been when you were a child.
Rule N°5. "Be and look 100% Natural, no Fanciness" I would say this for women mostly, but it is a rule men also need to follow. No cosmetics, hair-do’s.  Revel in the natural beauty that is only yours.  Of course, you're going to shower! but don't put anything on your skin, hair, nails, underarms, piercing, necklaces, watch, NOTHING. A newborn baby does not prepare to enter the new world, neither do you. This is a rebirth do not weigh yourself down with artificial accessories. Attire and shoes should put a premium on comfort.   Rule N°6. "Eat Well, and Healthy" Before you set out on your journey eat a balanced and healthy meal, preferably vine ripened vegetables, sun ripened fruit and anything that is in the season.  Have a thermos of spring water with you and take constant sips throughout the designated period.  Avoid heavy, greasy foods keep it light and nourishing.  Try to follow this rule as a healthy body will better communicate with your mind plus, your stomach will thank you for it.
Rule N°7. "Meditation on Past, Present, Future" Take a moment to meditate. You can do that while you walk, while you travel, ponder whatever comes into your mind.  There is no limit on the amount of time you spend meditating in the moment.  Take deep and long breaths, listen to the sound and feel of the air in your lungs and listen as you exhale. A meditation can take 5 to 15 minutes, clearly, there are no limits.   When you go to a place you have been before, try to remember how you were, what was in your mind, try to imagine your old self, looking at you and explaining to you who you were.   If it was an unpleasant moment attempt to transform this feeling into a positive and new memory, by using the present day and this new approach. Doing this will free your future self from those painful memories and will help liberate you from a heavy chapter of your life.
Rule N°8."Meet a new person during this day" You will try to meet a new person during your journey, who it is is not as important as that it is a new encounter.  Connect with a stranger and just talk and take a moment to listen. During my past blackouts, I met great people, lovers for 1 day, a friend, a business opportunity.  You are meeting this person when you are in a natural state with contrivance or posing.  Even if you look normal, you will experience how simple it is to be friendly, to meet new people and those people will see your aura and energy instead of your style. If you're single, you may meet the love of your life. You just have to be there at the right moment and follow your heart.
Rule N°9. "Prepare your before and after Blackout day" After this journey, think about how you are going to feel after this Re-Birth.  We will forget about "happy Friday" and "thank god it's Friday" as an abomination of our modern society. Every time you plan for a Blackout day, check the rules and make sure to follow them. You can divide and do your "Blackout day" in the middle of the month. Try to enjoy the time before the Blackout and after it. You will feel like a reboot of your system every month and will help you clear your mind.
Rule N°10. "Share your experience" Share this method with a person you care about or think that it will help him or her. Explain the rules and send the link, so he/she will understand what to do.
Publish on the Tumblr website: http://theblackoutday.com Comment on the Medium: https://medium.com/@ad_avenue/created-the-11-20-2015-c43848d1d5ec
Share your experience just by telling briefly how you feel what this experience has given you. Use those 3 hashtags #City #your job #yourwebsite (the website is just to advertise your business :) Conclusion Some people have a morning ritual, I choose to have a monthly ritual. This method helps me focus on my personal life, on my businesses and my decisions. It keeps me focused on a daily basis and almost becomes instinctual. It keeps my energy, enthusiasm at a high level and lowers my reaction to negativity. I feel healthy within my body and mind and it helps me socially. And each rebirth gives me a reservoir of inner strength that one day a month helps one tap into.

How I slept 7 hours: Sleep Saga Continued
New Post has been published on http://ourlittledinosaur.azurewebsites.net/how-i-slept-7-hours-sleep-saga-continued/
How I slept 7 hours: Sleep Saga Continued
Co-Sleeping
There’s a lot to be said about co-sleeping. However, this post isn’t to hash out the safety precautions or to rave about the family bed. I simply want to write to share that co-sleeping is how I was able to sleep 7 hours last night.
Seasoned co-sleepers will be nodding their approval I’m sure while others may cringe upon reading the words “family bed”, but my hope is that some where out there another tired Mama might be able to use one more suggestion to help her get a little more rest.
Milestones and Growth
My son is going through many milestone changes all at once.  It’s taking what seems like forever to cut his first tooth. Due to the drool and chomping, we’ve been expecting it for over a month now.  He’s recently hit 6 months and this past week, his constant eating and excessive night waking surely indicates the 6 month growth spurt.
And now, my 6 month old is mobile! What?! Oh yes! He’s not full on crawling (yet!), but he is army crawling everywhere! It’s incredible. So we quickly did the baby-proofing shuffle. (I attribute this early progress to all the floor and tummy time with Daddy.)
If you’ve searched the web for anything like “why isn’t my baby sleeping? ” and insert the age of the baby, many times you’ll be reminded that during milestones, they just don’t sleep all that well.  Needless to say, my baby is feeling a little more clingy than usual.
So while I want to curse the lack of sleep, my “joy comes in the morning” as I realize all the amazing things my son is learning and has achieved. (Praise God for the fleas.)
Our 7 Hour Night
Usually I put my son to bed in his crib around 6:30pm. Then my husband and I are able to spend some time together and relax for the evening. My son wakes up to eat between 10:30 to midnight, then wakes up again a couple times in the early morning light sleep but can usually quickly be put back to bed.
Well, last night was a horse of a different color! He woke up at 9 pm and ate like he was starving! Then we went through the routine of burping and laying him back in his crib. No way, he wasn’t having it. Upon his head (or foot or hand) hitting the sheets, he immediately woke up and fussed. I don’t know how many times over the next hour I tried to lay him in his crib. It was a lot. He was perfectly content and asleep there on my shoulder.
So finally, I gave in to my own need for rest and went into his room to lay down on the mattress (on the floor) we use for his nap times. He stayed asleep. Until 5 am. What?! Oh yes! I didn’t know he could do that either!
Well, I may not have seen my own bed last night and I did miss my husband but getting to sleep without interruption for the first time in 6 months was incredible!
Decisions
I’m not really sure what’s around the bend. My husband and I discussed it this morning and we think we’re all finally ready to move our son’s crib into HIS room instead of in ours. We considered it at 4 months when he was growing out of the bassinet, but I told my husband I wasn’t ready, so we moved his crib into our room.
We also laughed as we realized, this probably means we’ll all be camped out in his room while he makes this transition. My son, me, my husband, who doesn’t want to sleep alone either, and our two dogs are moving into the nursery tonight!
Go ahead and smile and laugh as you picture it. You know it’s funny.
Right or Wrong
As I continue to post about our sleep/no-sleep adventure with our firstborn, (I say “our” because my husband is definitely in this “together” with me.) it dawned on me all the opinions that MUST be floating around out there.
Every parent does things differently (and from what I hear, differently from child to child as well), but it seems many people want to “put their oar” in without actually listening to the desires of the parent they’re trying to mentor.
There’s so much differing information about child rearing and it can be difficult to sift through it all, and very easy to feel like a failure once you chosen a path and then hear something different or read an article with a differing perspective. It can be downright stressful!
The fact is, God didn’t make us all from the same mold. Throughout creation you can see God’s appreciation for the unique. The individual characteristics and strengths He created in all of us is evident in our very children as we watch them grow. We appreciate these attributes in others, except perhaps it may seem, when it comes to parenting?
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to tell my story. And I love to give advice to others. In fact, I’m known to apologize in advance and give permission for the other person to tell me “thanks, but, no thanks” when I want to give advice!
What I want to encourage here is that the advice we are giving is given out of love. And may I also suggest that the advice given is for the benefit of the other person and not for our own parenting knowledge gold star or feather in our cap.
This isn’t a plug for everyone’s “truth” is right for them. God’s truth is the only truth and He has made that very clear when it comes to right and wrong. God didn’t make us all the same, though he did gave us commandments about certain things.
I think we can all agree that those commandments don’t cover what color I should wear today anymore than whether I should breastfeed one year or two (or, dare I say it, more. Gasp!). I mean look at how different we all are from one another! Naturally we’re going to have different parenting styles as well.
Wisdom in a Multitude of Counselors
Don’t go it alone. There is something to be said for asking for godly advice in all aspects of our life. Proverbs says, there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors. So choose a few people you trust and ask for their perspective. They may come up with some good ideas you haven’t thought of yet!
And for those unsolicited advisors, don’t tune them out completely. You may be able to glean some gold nuggets from their experiences. Be encouraged, that their intentions are most likely good, they just aren’t very graceful about how to tell their story or offer advice that doesn’t sound judgmental. Chances are they don’t know how it makes you feel.
So wherever you are in your journey, whatever your challenge, take heart that although we are all different people, you can surround yourself with loving and encouraging people to help you through it. Even if no one else knows what to suggest in your situation, you can always ask them to pray for you.
“Bear one another’s burdens…” Galatians 6:2a
“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14
“…Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5b
Let us hear from you!
What advice might you have for my situation? What, if any, sleep challenges have you had with your children?
