ok, here is ida. i draw her based on the old player model but in the new player model she looks a bit different. I use this chunky highlight hair because it somewhat hides the fact that her ears stick out now when wearing a hat/helmet (this pisses me off the most about the new characters). but she used to have this black hair, and of course dark eye makeup. it's a lot like what i do irl

Ida Riverwood! I don't ever want to change it. I actually really like it and I'm surprised my kid self was smart enough to choose that

you can kinda see how i dress her in those pics of her, usually a dark color scheme and yes I coordinate it with the horse. I actually dress her in a lot of sweaters and typically with proper breeches and tall boots and helmet as if it were a regular english outfit irl. I occasionally dress her and her horse in western gear, or use streetwear if she's off the horse

23. Which Druid Circle do you prefer? Is there a reason for your preference? Is it tied to the Soul Rider of the Circle?

you may be surprised, but I like the moon circle just a smidgen more than the sun circle, though they are in close competition. I just love the aspects of both of them, visions & teleportation. I find it so interesting and quite applicable to real life, at least personally, because of how I experience life with PTSD. it is easy to convey my mind through comics about the powers of these circles.

20. What part of the Main Story is your favorite?

oh my, if you can count the storyline in SSL as a predecessor to SSO, i would say Anne's first trip to Pandoria to save Concorde. in SSO, it's surprising but seeing Anne without saving her must have been my favorite. I was disappointed with the actual saving Anne quest, but seeing Pandoria for the first time in SSO was an experience I won't forget, even though I prefer the atmosphere of Pandoria in SSL

11. How many horses do you own in total? Did it use to be more, or are you still missing a few?

oh my. 64. I once sold the green whinfell because i found it so ugly. But I felt so bad and rebought it a year or two ago.

I saw that you mentioned some things about Gamora and Nebula's relationship in vol 3 and I wanted to say I agree. I know people have different feelings about vol 3 and I am really happy for those who loved it but I felt like their relationship didn't get treated all that well when it came to making it clear that the relationship had been so important. I'm not sure if James Gunn just didn't want to address Infinity War and Endgame or didn't know how to work with what was done with Gamora's relationship with Nebula. But the truth is Gamora gave up the soul stone to save Nebula. She didn't want to see her hurt and she was so loving towards her. Then Nebula is so angry she arrives on Titan and attacks Thanos saying he should have killed her rather than take Gamora. She no longer has defeating Thanos as her main focus. All she wants is her sister back. In Endgame Nebula is the only one given space to show that she's sad over Gamora's death and when she and 2014 Gamora interact it's the anticipation that they can be real sisters that Gamora cares about the most and she has the confidence that she and Nebula can stop Thanos.

When we get to vol 3 it's like none of that happened. Nebula and Gamora have apparently been in communication but more information isn't provided. The two of them appear as if they can barely communicate and that's never been the case. Not even in Endgame. So for me if something has happened where they've lost the ability to communicate while also keeping in touch I would have really like some backstory on that. I think good writing would dictate not having to guess what's going on the whole movie and with their relationship I'm left feeling like I have to guess what the relationship even is. Plus I don't think being with the ravagers can be used as an excuse. We've seen Yondu who was a ravager have better framed and developed relationships and understandings of his feelings about those relationships than what we saw for Gamora. I better understood Kraglins relationship with Yondu in vol 3 from one simple scene than I did Gamora and Nebula's. I can't tell if I missed something important or didn't understand it. But something was off.

i agree with all this 10000% anon - i think this is the relationship with gamora that should've been given the Most focus, equal to or perhaps even more than starmora, given how much of like the original concept of gotg hinged on gamora and nebula's complex dynamic. and again since i saw vol 2 right before vol 3, the contrast between the gamora and nebula subplot in vol 2 and the seeming lack thereof in vol 3 stood out to me so much

bc man oh man you're so right 😭 like...it feels like vol 3 didn't pick up where this story dropped off at all, which is a shame. esp given 2 years passed between endgame and vol 3, i'd expect gamora and nebula to had grown closer in that time. or if they'd grown apart or distant instead, that could've been rly interesting to explore instead and show the audience why/how

I'm not a book blog by any means, but I just finished reading A Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li, and want somewhere to put my thoughts, so here tumblr, have a random book review (with surprisingly little spoilers bc i'm used to talking in vague terms)

This book was advertised to me as a heist movie/show in novel form and while I get where it was coming from, I found it oddly paced from the heist format I usually come across. Most of the book was devoted to character development, which is not a bad thing! (In fact, it's my personal preference for novels) I love diving into character's motivations and exploring the relations between each of the team members. It was great and I felt all five of the main characters come alive, and I feel a lot of people couldn't have handled that many characters well, but Grace D. Li did amazing.

Each character had their own distinct background and relationship with their identity of Chinese American, and this affected the way they communicated with each other. While some character may have gotten a little more screen time than others, it was well balanced and I don't think any character got left behind.

However, I found the action scenes were quick and took up a small portion of the book in comparison. I could have used them a little bit stretched out to feel the action. I feel like the author was going for replicating the heist movie format of all these different camera angles, coming together to perform the heist. It had a nice quick, choppy feeling to the read, but when you spend 100s of pages developing these characters and building up the heists, and then the heist is over in three pages, it can be a bit anti-climactic for me.

But then again, there is more than one heist so I get where you don't want to drag each one out. There were definitely a couple of turns in there I enjoyed and the lead up to the final heist & the final heist itself were the highlight of the book.

The only thing I did not enjoy about the ending was the romance. (Probably the most specific spoilers in this part, if anyone cares) Was it really necessary to have every one of the five main characters end with a romantic interest? I get that one of them didn't end up in a relationship, but was still implied to have a romantic relationship budding in the future. Also, I found the romance to be a bit uncompelling. I get two of the characters ending up as they did, with their flirtation from the beginning, and they're young and ready to take chances. But I found the queer romance...rushed, I guess?

Like, there was a great build up, from the distrust, to the learning to work together and seeing each other in different light, but I just expected there to be a little bit more build up in their friendship before they jumped to romance.

There are moments implied off-screen. Plenty of time skipped in which they worked together one on one, but it was near the end of the book and wasn't a focus. I feel like the focus on this book was on the characters discovering themselves and healing, so I don't think the romance had to be at the forefront, but it also felt a bit unnecessary. Though, I really shouldn't complain about any queer romance I get, right? There is still a decent enough foundation there that I understand where it came from, even if I wanted more from it.

The fifth team member having a love interest thrown in was a bit much for me. I get that it was probably to show the character healing and moving past the person they've been hung up on, but I felt that character had already had a great arc exploring the relationship with their parent, and the love interest angle was just off-putting to me. It reminded me of books I read as a child where the only happy ending is ending up in a relationship even when the book wasn't a romance novel at all.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see the Netflix adaptation, and I will have to be on the lookout for more heist novels

Hi! I don't want to start anything on here and am always willing for civil conversations. At this point there's so much I've found out about Seb (besides the video he liked, the tommy lee thing, and the girlfriend thing) that I feel so guilty if I would continue to support him. I love him sm but it just doesn't look good rn. He is associated/follows an organisation (for helping veterans) that has posted a blue lives matter flag picture and who's co-founder has sexual assault allegations against him, and worked with him in 'The last full measure'. His friend Paul Walter Hauser has done blackface in the past, and when called out on it he just listed a few people that also did blackface. There's more, I found a discussion on here that I can link. I seriously don't support "cancel culture" bc I don't think it helps anyone but there are just a lot of 'mistakes' and shady people that can be linked to Seb, I wish it wouldn't be that way. I honestly don't know what to think about it anymore.

Hi! I’m also open to having civil conversations and I don’t believe you’re trying to start anything. I really do think this situation of dragging up a four year old video and taking it completely out of context is harmful not just to Black people, but to fandom/activism in general. This is gonna be long because I’m going to take your points one by one, and I want to preface this by saying that I will not answer any derogatory, sideways asks pertaining to this subject. I will delete every single one and will block your silly ass. I’m not going to argue with people who think I’m blindly supporting Sebastian because I’m just trying to get fucked by him, or people who think I hate myself and am trying to appease some white man.

So, on with the discourse!

The video he liked - this video was taken completely out of context and that is my main issue with this whole situation. It was not a video of a white man saying that he thinks he should be able to say the n word as everyone claimed it was. They were quickly debating on whether or not it's okay to say in rap lyrics. He was told no, that's not okay, that's never okay and they moved on from it. That's it. End of story. That somehow was twisted into a click bait style headline of "Sebastian Stan likes a video of a white man defending his right to say the n word" when that is absolutely not true. My other issue is that people are more upset that Sebastian liked the video than they are about the white man in the video literally saying the n word. So, do you really care about the use of the n word like you're claiming? Cuz if you do, you'd be more upset at the white man that said the word than you would be about the white man simply liking the video. Or, are you just using this as an excuse to grandstand against a white man you don't like?

The Tommy Lee thing - Sebastian Stan playing Tommy Lee does not make Sebastian Stan a bad person. Is Charlize Theron a bad person for playing Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who started murdering men? Is Leonardo DiCaprio a bad person for playing a slave owner? Is Edward Norton a bad person for playing a nazi sympathizing racist? Actors play bad people. That doesn't mean that they themselves are bad people. 1990's Tommy Lee was a bad person, but that should have no bearing on who Sebastian Stan is or his character as a man.

The gf/Paul Walter Hauser thing - Why are we holding Sebastian accountable for what the people around him are doing? Again, why are we more upset that Sebastian is associated with people who have done questionable things than the specific people themselves? I'm not going to speak on the kimono wearing -- I'm not Asian. It's not my place to say whether or not its offensive because it's not my culture, but she posted that picture and attended that party before she started dating Sebastian, quite possibly before she even knew him. Same with Paul. I think that black face thing was long before he knew Sebastian. Now, if Sebastian was defending these actions, going around saying "I think it's okay for white women to wear Kimono's" "I think black face is fine" "I think white people should be able to say the n word" then we'd have a different story, wouldn't we? But that's not what we have, and that's not what he is doing. He is not responsible for the things his friends do or have done in the past just because he's more famous than they are, and he is not required to speak on them. Let's put it this way -- would you be comfortable having to be responsible for something a friend of yours did before you knew them? Would you want to have to be forced to answer for your friend when you yourself had nothing to do with the questionable behavior?

The organization that supports the military/blue lives matter - Sebastian cannot control what message that foundation puts out and it does not mean that he is or is not pro-police himself. There is not enough concrete evidence -- if any evidence for that matter -- that Sebastian is a blue lives matter supporter. Did Sebastian donate before they put up the blue lives matter post? Or after? I don’t know, cuz I don’t follow him that closely, but if he donates before they come out with a particular stance, that means he should be held accountable for that? I know I donated to an organization once and they turned out to support something that i’m 100% against. That means I’m a bad person because I couldn’t see into the future? Another point, how can we be certain that Sebastian saw the blue lives matter post in the first place? I know I’m not online 24 hrs a day, I miss posts all the time and I’m just an average person. I make three or four tumblr posts a day, and I’m gone. I have to play catch up on social media, and even then, I still miss stuff. So I’m sure the same happens to a working actor. As for the co-founder, I don't know who this person is and would rather not get into any allegations against them because I don't want to trigger anyone who comes across this post. If Sebastian knows about these allegations, is a willing participant/supporter of this person then yeah, that's pretty shitty, but we don't know the inner workings of this friendship/acquaintance/work relationship. We don’t know how close they are or if they even still speak.

I’m a pretty big fan of Don Cheadle. He’s a stand up guy, he’s a great actor, he’s funny, he’s political and stands up for what he believes in and in a very public way. I support him. Don Cheadle is also friends with Chris Evans, RDJ, Mark Ruffalo, and Letitia Wright (just to name a few). Chris Evans has a bipartisan forum that highlights/promotes right wing politicians, RDJ defended Chris Pratt during the whole “he’s the worst Chris in Hollywood” crap, who’s technically done black face, and who once said to a female reporter “nice tits” when she walked into the room, Mark Ruffalo just walked back his support of Palestine, and Letitia Wright retweeted/supported an anti-vaxxer/anti-trans Pastor who equated an ingredient of the covid vaccine to the devil because it contained some parts of the word Lucifer. Does that mean Don is now a bad person because he’s friends with these people? Why isn’t he getting any heat for his friendships with them? Why isn’t he being held accountable for what they’ve done and said? Oh right, because he’s not a white fave. So people don’t care one way or the other, which brings me to my next point.

I can guarantee you that if Sebastian’s gf or Paul or this co-founder were not associated with Sebastian in any way, nobody would give a shit about her wearing a kimono, about Paul doing black face, or about the co-founder/organization being blue lives matter supporters and in that lies the actual problem. Being critical of people and their actions should be consistent and should happen all the time -- not just when they interact with your white fave. That’s when it becomes performative and looks like you just want to be able to show internet people that you follow/support/stan unproblematic celebrities, when really, you don’t care.

I think the moral of this post is that I think it's unfair to hold a complete stranger to a standard that I cannot hold myself to. I also don't view celebrities the way most teenagers/twenty somethings do, and that’s because when I entered fandom we didn't have social media, so I grew up with a wall between myself and said celebrities. There is no wall now with the presence of social media. "Fans" nowadays have a weird ownership feeling over celebrities because they can read their personal thoughts or view personal pictures and think that they have this personal quasi-friendship with them. I can't get on board with that. I prefer having the wall and I still keep the wall.

If supporting Sebastian makes you uncomfortable, then by all means, stop supporting him. Just make sure you are making this decision for yourself based on credible sources and concrete evidence and that you're not letting this fake woke activist mob make you feel uncomfortable. Internet activism means nothing unless you put your money where your mouth is in your real life and 90% of the social justice internet warriors do not. Real activism is bigger than changing your avi to a black square.

❣️ Baker Boys & Paint With Love are my highlights this month. They both had amazing kickoffs; I’m loving the humor in Baker Boys and the vibes in Paint With Love. It feels different and especially Tae’s character is so on point lol I love it. Another thing I cherished a lot this month were the Between Us specials! They were consciously incoherent but super sweet and they made me even more hyped for the series!! 🤩 Another obsession this month remains Bad Buddy bc episode 5 was a masterpiece. Also the Not Me trailer. Holy hell.

👎🏻 Nothing I specifically disliked but lemme just say that if that My Broccoli series is actually happening then WabiSabi’s credibility is compromised lmao. The highest proportion of fans stated that they loved too many of the main characters to choose. 657 responders (24.8%) chose this option. That’s nearly a quarter of fans who were polled. It should be noted that this option included both fans who liked every main character, as well as those who were split between at least two characters. Some even went into detail on this section that their favorites are minor characters like Gaster and Muffet. Many fans wrote large paragraphs explaining what they love about each member of the Undertale cast.

The most common themes seen were fans seeing the cast as friends and family, and enjoying them because of their diversity and relatability. And of course, some people just like them all because they’re neat, which is a whole mood in itself. Below are some selected responses that show off these running themes.

Because they're for most so funny but especially for all so well written, complex, alive, they do not feel like flat characters despite the game being in 2D. I also like that despite that, there are holes in the backstory of all that can allow the fan to imagine different scenarios that they can then share and discuss with the community. I also like the fact that they're not all heterosexuals or gender binary and respect each other for what they are.

They're all just really cool and I want to put them all through therapy

It's hard? Because in Undertale, it makes you feel like you're really part of it, you know? The characters, all of them, make you feel like you're family too. That makes it hard too. Because you don't want a pick a character, because you don't want to let any of the others go.

I find each character interesting in their own ways, and befriending them (or defeating them depending on which run you enjoy participating in) is always a delight. Learning their stories, aspirations, hopes, and dreams is a wonderful experience no matter how many times you play/watch the game, even if it will never match the original feeling.

I fell in love with Sans first, thanks to a friend introducing me to him and me wanting to see the game he was from. From there, Toriel became the mother I never had & Asriel/Flowey the brother I never had. I adored Papyrus and wanted to be as fabulous as MTT. I was cheering on for Alphys & Undyne, and I so desperately wanted to spare the King on my first run. Hell, even side or one off characters felt like family to me so quickly. Undertale changed my life, and I couldn't pick a favorite. I love the entire Underground, and the whole main cast is like a whole 2nd family to me

Most of them I like because they're either relatable, (E.g. Napstablook's more anti-social nature, Burgerpants’ lost energy, Asgore's past bad decisions that he can't undo no matter how much he wants to,) And/or something I strive to be (E.g. Toriel's motherly traits, Undyne's sense of honor, Papyrus's determination and optimism.)

I feel for Mad Dummy on a spiritual level. Skelebros are the fandom engine at this point. Frisk is forever who made the story real for each player.

Thank you for making "I care for too many of the canon main characters to choose" an option bc I LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH i'm gonna hug every single one of them

1. Are death gods like a class lower than Olympian gods? Minthe says that Hades can buy all the suits in the world and still stink of death and Apollo refers to Thanatos as Poor Man’s Heremes and also reeks of death. Do they smell bad, or do people just hate them for existing? You’d think they’d be a little more fear controlling death/underworld

2. for the person saying "come on, persephone being a self insert isn't bad" completely misses the point. As a young writer I used to have self inserts until I realized that my favoritism overshadowed the narrative and didn't allow for my characters to experience consequences or be in the wrong. This is how creator's pets get made, and no one likes those because they ruin the story and take away attention from other (more interesting) characters! (1/2)

We are clearly seeing this in LO. Persephone is essentially a perfect little goddess who keeps getting powers, is probably going to be revealed as one of the strongest goddesses, and her issues (sans the two giant ones we know what it is) almost never personally affect her. No one gets angry at her in a meaningful way unless the narrative wants us to demonize them, and when they suddenly "see the light" and go to her side, they're rewarded! THAT'S why persephone as a S.I is bad

3. Ok. I think Daphene and Thanatos are the best ship. I would read this story...also,Thanatos is the grim reaper...how metal would be if he take down LO Apollo and LO Hades? Yes, I'm aware this would be impossible in the.original myths but HEY why not? RS is not caring for the source material

4. RS’s writing is such a mess of contradictions between actuality and intent it’s hilarious: 1) Hades is supposed to be seen as a good guy yet is portrayed as a tyrant who somehow still manages to be a Gary Stu. 2) Persephone is simultaneously overpowered (fertility goddess powers) and powerless (is just a college kid) to the point where she’s viewed as a spoiled rich brat living consequence-free and destitute young woman left with no options but to marry to get out of trouble

3) Artemis is supposed to represent a separatist feminist yet is depicted as foolish, British and out of the loop for humorous effect by the poss poor excuse of a comic which calls itself ‘a feminist feeling’. 4) The lack of time skips coupled with RS’s need to give HxP as many ‘cute’ moments as possible makes the comic’s progress feel slow for the reader when it’s actually progressing at breakneck speed if you go by the character’s timeframe.

5) Wants to treat SA with nuance and sensitivity (RS almost manages to do it at first) but then uses Persephone’s rape as trauma porn, a means for pushing her closer to Hades while reminding the reader of his differences from Apollo and a means of furthering the side plots (Artemis’s descent into depressed confusion, Eros and Psyche’s romance, Hera’s quest to get the mains together).

5. i genuinely do not want to see whatever reason rachel thinks up to have zeus and demeter not like each other because it's either going to be a "shock" incest twist (unlikely) or it's going to be something akin to how she made apollo to persephone and maybe zeus stole her "fertility" and thats why she couldnt have persephone naturally and why demeter isnt a fertility goddess but persephone is. like no writing choice is good in this so i guess brace for the worst from her in this regard.

6. i honestly get sad looking at old LO art because not only is all the charm gone, but the colors also got way worse. hades used to be this subdued, rich dark blue with icy blue hair while persephone was a nice shade of pastel pink with magenta hair, but now theyre all one shade of neon. there used to be choices put into the art but now its just lazy. like hades looks like a blue highlighter, and persephone like her personality is only one nauseatingly bright shade and thats it 😞

7. i feel like if at least the writing in LO was good the art would excusable, you know what i mean? and the same can be said in reverse, but both are just so bad (or was never good to begin with) that it just seems inexcusable? like at least put effort into one, not half assing at best for both.

8. i mean for all we know bc thats how how psyche normally looks the braids are just a nymph disguise that basically pops away once shes human looking again. regardless the whole thing is nasty once you think about it and idk what we expected from a white woman to begin with. she thinks persephone revolving her whole world and being dependent on hades is feminist and making a canon bi god a r//pist is groundbreaking too like ....

9. lets add to the psyche is black-coded discourse: anyone want to mention how nasty it is she was literally sold off to a WHITE MAN for eros to save her from (ignoring the fact he proceeded to lie to her while having a sexual relationship), made her loving parents into abusive assholes, and psyche just happens to be the only character who is illiterate despite being a princess? the whole thing reeks of internalized racism on rachel's part, and her now giving her braids kinda makes it worse, tbh.

10. Is it me? Or in the fast past episode were they showed one of the muses Polymnia (or Polyhymnia) they mixed her with Clio??? Because Zeus calls her "the goddess/muse of history" but Polymnia is acutally the muse of hymns, CLIO is the muse of history, how did they get that wrong? Her name literally means "a lot of hymns"! And why is there a muse in this??? Even she says that she shouldn't be there because she doesn't work in anything similar to law, did Zeus really asked her to make a POEM in a TRAIAL??? For what exactly? Make Persephone look bad?

hope its ok to ask but I would love to know ur opinion on the whole final battle/ arc of jojolion against tohru bc lots of ppl were really disappointed by it but I kinda liked it? I think it'll work well if u can read it all in one instead of having to wait for months just meet a new rockbug lol

yessss it's so okay to ask i actually love saying things about this series i just say whatever i want. sorry in advance if this gets a little long or a lot

i really liked it actually. i think a big part of the reason a lot of people may not have liked it was either because the main villain didn't get revealed until really late or because the final fight did feel super dragged out in a way that most other parts didn't. like it definitely was more stretched out and jumped back and forth between perspectives a lot which can feel disorienting i understand that. however. i actually thought that was really cool and it seemed like the way it dragged on was important to the way things turned out in the end. here is why i think that.

the first thing that seemed really important to me and that made me kind of realize how the story as a whole does differ from the progression of jojo parts in some ways is the cover for chapter 108. i am putting both to make them smaller lol. hi yasuho.

when i saw this and read the text on it it really did make me kind of stop. because at least to me it seems kind of weird to like. highlight that right here right. obviously we know this is a story about breaking a curse we have been following the progression of the curse and how it affects the higashikata family and those around them for over 100 chapters now. but then when you think about it again it comes off as maybe suggesting that we should be focusing more on the breaking of the curse as a plot point rather than certain other things that are going on. do you get where i'm going with this a little bit. basically what i think is that the reason the final fight feels the way it does, why it jumps between josuke and yasuho and why you don't really see the villain himself until the end and why it feels way more about how the relationships between people are broken and altered through death and loss than it does about the guy who is actually causing all this loss, the originator of the calamity itself, is because he does not even matter that much in the end.

tooru is relatively inconsequential in the grand scheme of things because the curse is the issue here not him. the real villain is the curse and it has been all along, so the fact that it does not really even feel like a fight against him so much as it is a race for a potential cure is done on purpose (or maybe it's not and i am just being a little crazy it's whatever this is just really fun for me to write) to highlight that tooru does not even really mean that much. well he does obviously because of his stand and the calamity that it causes, but this really is a secondary point while the thing that matters most is the plague on this family. i like the relationships in the higashikata family and how they fight for each other, i think kaato showing up and using her stand to trick tooru into trading places with tsurugi was actually SO cool and i also think that it really just cements the idea that this has been about family all along. it was always about breaking this curse before it was about any other villain that might be present, ever since several generations ago whenever it originated. i hope the final chapter will show a little more about this hopefully. maybe it will end up proving that i am totally off the mark here and tooru is super important to everything but i guess we will see in a very short while. anyways sorry for going on so long i just really like jojolion and i think the final fight gets a lot too much hate because people are trying to see it for something it is not supposed to be.

hello! I just wanted to ask, which do you think in the mdzs novel has the most questionable morality? like they have done more bad things but they still had kindness in them somehow (?)

oh!! this is a hard one for me anon! i’m always bad at ranking characters but i’ll do my best! i’m not sure if you were hoping for like a quick answer or a long one but i’m gonna go with a long one bc that’s always fun and i’ll do a tldr if you don’t want to read through all that? yeah that seems like it’ll work because holy shit i didnt mean for it to get so long (and kind of away from the point of your ask too so sorry about that!)

okay! So, the three main contenders for morally dubious characters are, as far as I’ve seen, Xue Yang, Jin Guangyao, and Wei Wuxian. Not a big surprise, I’m sure. While they’re the more obvious options, they do have a lot of parallels and exhibit a lot of the themes and ideas that MXTX was getting at. I mean, I love looking at Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian as foils, and even other combinations of the three, so my answer will probably be heavy on the comparisons. I do think it’s worth touching on Jiang Cheng as well though. Also, I’ll try to stay as unbiased as I can because there’s a few characters on this list that I just don’t like … like at all.

Jiang Cheng tends to get brushed over a lot when it comes to some of the horrible things he’s done. From promising to protect Wei Wuxian from dogs only to immediately use them as a threat whenever he wants to to leading a siege on a group of people he knows are completely innocent of any crimes to torturing and killing people for thirteen years, he’s definitely not a good person. His concerns lie first and foremost with himself and his. That doesn’t seem like a horrible thing at first – he should owe his loyalty to himself, his family, and his sect – but it does mean that when the Xuanwu’s cave situation happened, his response was to get mad that Wei Wuxian helped Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji. (And that’s why Jiang Fengmian got mad at him!). Later on, when pressure comes from the sects regarding Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng chooses not to stand with him, which, while understandable, isn’t exactly a kind move to someone who called Jiang Cheng his family and was trying to repay the debt the two of them owed Wen Qing. There’s no denying that he does care about Wei Wuxian, but when forced to make hard choices, he picks what’s easiest for himself. In general, I’d say that his sense of morality is selfish and somewhat flighty, but not necessarily questionable, so I’ll move on!

For the usual suspects, I’ll start with Xue Yang because I’m just going to immediately eliminate him from the running. I’ve seen people interpret his character sympathetically or try to justify some of his actions or the way he turned out, but I honestly just can’t. While you could feel sympathetic towards him because of his childhood, we have Wei Wuxian as a direct contrast to Xue Yang, as well as, to a certain degree, Jin Guangyao. Both Xue Yang and Wei Wuxian were street kids who had a horrible time in their youth, but Wei Wuxian was able to leave that behind him. That’s a lot easier to do when you’ve been adopted into a major sect and afforded comforts above your station (and also have terrible coping mechanisms), but even Jin Guangyao’s revenge isn’t quite as wide-spread and malicious. I know it may seem a bit obvious, anon, but some people really do try and treat Xue Yang like he’s morally dubious which confuses me a lot because how?? Even if we do say that he has suitable cause, one of the messages of the novel is that your past experiences don’t justify your future actions, so even within the context of the novel – a novel which is concerned with highlighting the grey areas of morality – Xue Yang isn’t afforded any sympathy. So, there’s really no way to construe him in a positive light. His only moments of kindness come with his time spent in Yi City with Xiao Xingchen, where Xue Yang doesn’t change much – he may have cared for Xiao Xingchen, but Xue Yang still tortured him as he did so. I never quite read that arc as Xue Yang learning to care or being allowed to be kind again so I’d just say that he lacks both morals and kindness. On that basis we can boot him from this competition.

Jin Guangyao may have been one of the antagonists of the novel, but he wasn't a completely bad person or like The Worst. His main crimes involved getting revenge for slights against him or his mother – being from Nie Mingjue, Jin Guangshan, or any number of other cultivators. I think that, to an extent, his actions are justifiable. While you can contrast this to the way Wei Wuxian gets called a servant's son, they do differ in the fact that Wei Wuxian is afforded a higher level of protection due to him being favoured by Jiang Fengmian. Additionally, when Wei Wuxian does have his birth used against him, he's usually the person who acted out first anyway. Jin Guangyao was insulted for doing little more than exist and was never the person to act out first, yet still faced a near constant onslaught of insults. I'm not saying his actions were justified by any means, but the reasoning behind his actions is sound. The one thing I will note is that he doesn't let go of his grudges – even when everything is all done and dusted and he has everything that he could possibly want from life, he still holds onto that hatred. I remember seeing a post where someone mentioned that characters who were able to move on and change for the better were able to get their happy ending in MDZS, which isn't relevant here but definitely applies to Jin Guangyao when thinking about why he got the ending he did. I don't agree with the degree to which he enacted his revenge against certain characters and I loathe the whole Qin Su situation. I don't care how much he cries about it, he could've at least told her, but I mainly just pretend that part didn't exist. So, he has suitable cause for at least some of his actions, and his other victims can just be classified as necessary collateral rather than being intentional innocent targets, if that makes sense, but he's definitely vindictive and spiteful.

On the other hand, he did a lot of good, too. He's a side character for the most part so Jin Guangyao didn't get the most screen-time, but we do hear of some of the good things he's done. The main example would probably be the watchtowers. One of the interesting things about Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian is that while both of them are capable of kindness, the breadth and scope of Jin Guangyao's is much broader – the watchtowers are an idea that not only showcase how Jin Guangyao's upbringing allows him to see flaws in the cultivation world that the other privileged cultivators can't, but also show how he does care about the people. I've seen a few people try and play it as a spying technique but I don’t really believe that in the slightest. I mean, the point of the towers is to cover the areas where the sects aren't, so I have no idea what Jin Guangyao's people would even be spying on. Anyway, setting up those watchtowers really didn't benefit him any specific way – unless you consider him endearing himself to Lan Xichen and garnering a good reputation with the common folk something that outweighs the absolute nightmare it would have been to make the sects participate in the project to begin with. In a more specific case, Jin Ling's dog was given to him by Jin Guangyao. It's interesting that, despite Jin Ling spending the novel being trailed by Jiang Cheng, the gift that he obviously cares for deeply is from Jin Guangyao. In the Guanyin Temple scene I definitely got the sense that Jin Ling had loved and trusted Jin Guangyao before the truth came out so I'm firmly convinced that he would've been a wonderful and conscientious uncle to him and just generally good to the people who worked for him and/or the commoners.

Okay, now Wei Wuxian!! As far as I've seen, people are relatively good at staying true to his questionable sense of morality. Like with Jin Guangyao, we know that he can be vindictive and pretty excessive when it comes to getting his revenge, but I'm not going to deny that I was definitely rooting for him when he went after Wen Chao and his little gang. The main issue with Wei Wuxian is probably the demonic cultivation – the stigma against it tends to get reduced to it being bad for the user and their temperament etc. etc., but there's more to it than that. I'm no expert on Daoism by any means, but from my understanding desecration of corpses and disturbing the dead is a significant cultural taboo. This isn't just Wei Wuxian doing something no one else can do (though it certainly is true), it's also him doing something no one else should do. I've seen the massacre at Nightless City being added as another tally to his list of crimes, but I honestly think that that isn’t a crime worth adding – he needed to defend himself so he did, simple as that.

As I mentioned above, Wei Wuxian's kindness is a bit more specific – where Jin Guangyao cares for the people, Wei Wuxian cares for individuals. We see his kindness more clearly, be it because he's the main character or be it because actions are clearer and stronger when it's for a single person or a small group. It's a bit easier, in my opinion, to care about people when you don't have to live with them and face them every day, but Wei Wuxian does. Even though Wei Wuxian led a lot more comfortable life than Jin Guangyao, we never really see Jin Guangyao get his hands dirty in the same way Wei Wuxian does. When a sacrifice needs to be made, Wei Wuxian’s the one who makes it. He doesn't relegate, he does it himself. We know that he would do absolutely anything for those he cares about and that's why he's able to commit a lot of the atrocities he does.

When it comes to deciding between Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian for most questionable morality, I think we need to look at the reasons behind their actions. Wei Wuxian’s sense of morality is definitely nowhere near that of the Lans but he has always been driven by his sense of justice and his love for those around him. In that sense, I've always read him as having a flexible sense of morality rather than a questionable one. I'm not sure how much of it ties in with his sense of duty, but it's definitely a lot. Wei Wuxian is, and always will, fill the role that is required of him – be it the childish and sweet younger brother, the talented but flippant older brother, the monster that wins the war, or the fierce protector that gives his all, Wei Wuxian will twist himself into whatever position he's needed in at that moment. Obviously, he went after Wen Chao for his own benefit, and the corrupting influence of the resentful energy does need to be factored into this, but at his core, Wei Wuxian will always value his duty (to his sect, family, friends, and innocents) and doing what is right over anything else. He may have stumbled along the way, but he did manage to form his own path to uphold all the values that he wanted to. Jin Guangyao, on the other hand, is similar to Jiang Cheng in how he's driven by his own motivations for betterment and revenge, albeit with more grace and intelligence. Jin Guangyao may masquerade as being motivated by any number of causes but he will never do anything at his own risk, and he will always be his top priority. So, while it's a close call between Wei Wuxian and Jin Guangyao, I'm going to have to go with Jin Guangyao on this one!

tldr; the fandom favourites for questionable morality are xy, jgy, and wwx so i mainly looked at them. I included jc as well but neither xy or jc demonstrate the dichotomy needed so they got eliminated from the running. Jgy and wwx both commit and are willing to commit horrible crimes as well as being capable of caring for others and being kind. but, where wwx is driven by his sense of justice and love for others, jgy is driven by his own motivations for betterment and revenge, making for a more questionable morality (as compared to wwx's more flexible morality).

Apologies in advance I have a lot of fee-fees about Bloodbound and its ending and not a lot of them are good lmfao. I think the whole LI death controversy thing in Bloodbound is a result of a failing of its story tbh. Ending on a somber note with a death of a friend is fine, even desirable in a CYA game that wants that angst as it offers a significant branching path for the viewer without actually changing the ending so it isn't a lot of work to code. (Especially if the conditions are simple, in this case being "we killed this one bc you flirted with that one" or whatever the conditions were I don't remember.)

The thing is though is that deaths at the end should be thematic in some way; since there's a limited time afterwards to process because the story is ending in just a few lines. ILITW deaths, for example, didn't really get the time it needed to let those deaths sink in. They have a funeral for a scene and that's it. If it's thematic you at least have that to think about and it feels like a sacrifice worth making. From what I remember (been a while) there isn't a specific theme around Lily/Jax's death - just for the angst. And that route is fine if there's a proper conclusion and send-off for the character I guess, just not ideal really. Audiences like their favs to die for reasons and not just for misery porn.

So Jax/Lily died for no reason but it was ALSO unequal. You have to have a pretty robust reason to kill x but not y. It could be a story reason, like y *could* have died but just happened to be in a different place through pure luck (gives thrill through an 'oh-shit' feeling) or a motivation (death of x inspires y, etc) or to display the power of the villain (typically used for side characters; used basically every 3rd chapter in Across the Void), or a theme (loss of loved ones, etc etc.)

In Bloodbound it's weird not just because they killed 1/2 of the poc LIs, because it highlights how 2/4 of the LIs are barely even involved in the lore of the world. Adrian and Kamilah are the only ones in MC's group who know what's going on because of their age, while Lily and Jax are just as fish-out-of-water as MC is. Adrian/Kamilah *can't* die because if they do the story can't come to a conclusion bc no one else knows anything about what's happening! And that's all because they decided to do an ancient fantasy epic instead of the vampires-in-a-modern-age setting that they built in the first book. There's a lot of feelings I have about BB's confused setting (it goes from modern day to ancient society to futuristic with the addition of the vamp hunters & the Big Four then to post-apocalypse and back to ancient times... why) but its biggest crime is that we're given 4 LIs and only 2 of them can actually move the story forward. It makes the other two's arcs feel especially "side" and no one can accomplish anything significant unless Kamilah or Adrian are there. If they really wanted to heavily incorporate ancient history with their 2 old lead vampires, then why not do a modern vs. ancient vampire conflict? Ffs you have 2 ancient LIs and 2 young vampire LIs, AND several ancient vampire villains (Gaius, that vamp hunter guy) and several young vampire villains (the Council guys). Highlight the differences between the two worlds by making them fight and then in book 3 oh shit it's Rheya, here to destroy the lifestyles of both vampire worlds time to Crush Ass, you know? (I honestly preferred the story w/o her but she's an important part of the world I guess) It was there it was right there the setting would have been more consistent and Jax and Lily wouldn't be just as confused around the story's events as the reader is because they're still in their modern world, playing by the rules that they learned in *contrast* to Adrian and Kamilah - as opposed to being forced to play by someone else's! And if you want an angsty end LI death you can kill everyone with no hesitation because everyone can move the plot forward!

I actually prefer the death system in ilitw. Sure, the funeral system was handled poorly but atleast there was a chance of everyone dying (no special preference for death art scenes, you know, unlike bb)

I'll always remain pissed about bb cuz they always shifted jax and lily to the side with either a) their backstory having bare minimum relevance to the plot b) in Lily's case practically 0 backstory. Jax gets some tapestry scenes in bb while lily just got one in that holiday book. while the whole series is just like adrian! kamilah! gauis! rheya! *insert more characters cuz my memory of bb is fading fast due to annoyance*

I wasnt there for bb release, only the third book. so idk how people handled the mistreatment of jax and lily before i joined in here

LISTEN, LAUREN. I am always up to share my thoughts because they never end and they just keep coming and I have to unleash them somehow or I will definitely explode.

My brain was just like, ALL CAPS SCREAMING, for about 7 hours yesterday, so I’ll leave you to explore that hot mess on my blog if you want. 😅 But, in the time since, I’ve seen a lot of discourse and stuff about the moments that we’ve seen, so I’m going to use this ask as an opportunity to weigh in on everything under the cut...

FIRST, CAN I JUST SAY that at the moment that I am writing this post, we are still trending at #5 and we’ve been in the 4-7 range for at least the past, like, IDK, 18-20 hours maybe?! I LOVE THIS FANDOM AND HOW WE LOSE OUR SHIT AT THE SMALLEST THINGS

Okay, so let me go through this thing and comment on the parts, and then give some general thoughts below:

LOVE that this is a promo entirely about the LGBTQIA+ characters and characters of color. Not exactly surprised that they still tried to put as much Rob Lowe in it as possible (that’s Fox/the writers’ M.O. it seems - to squeeze Rob/Owen in whether he fits or not). Some of his comments were a little awkward, I thought (referring to Paul’s trans storyline as “stuff” makes me go 😬), but whatever. He’s not the point of all of this, so that’s the last I’m going to talk about him.

TOMMY VEGA. I AM READY TO STAN. I love Gina Torres, I already love how much heart and soul she is giving just in these quick peeks, I cannot wait to see her in action!

Also let me use this moment to say that while it’s obvious I’m not getting my Grace + Carlos friendship (that’s fine if it stays in fandom, I’ll live), I’m SO GLAD that her and Tommy are gonna be friends! One promo mentioned that Judd has known Tommy before, so it would not surprise me if they’ve been friends for awhile. LOVE THAT.

SPECULATION: This gives me a good time to just throw out a theory that I’ve been thinking about... We know Owen and Gwen are hosting Tommy at their place for a backyard dinner. I assume her husband may be there as well, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Judd and Grace are there too.

I ALSO would not be surprised if this is when one of the nights at Carlos’s place happens, like a parallel of the two dinner parties. That at least keeps every main character involved in both locations. We shall see though.

So this gathering at the firehouse seems like it’s going to be a pretty big scene, probably for episode 1. I think everyone’s gathered so that Owen can announce he’s in remission (we’ll hear him tell TK first, which is the hug that they share earlier in the trailer, I think).

But this gathering also includes a Tommy/Grace moment, a Tarlos moment, the others doing other things kind of moments. It’ll serve the same purpose as a lot of the season 1 bar scenes, and I’m so glad they’ve moved those to the firehouse. I want that place to really start feeling like a home this year.

(I want all of the locations to feel a little more grounded and special, if I’m being honest. Like, I’m SO GLAD that Carlos’s place is going to be a key location this season.)

There are now two instances of Carlos being next to Gwen (standing next to her while Owen makes an announcement and now sitting next to her at the table), so we better get some dialogue between them or I WILL BE SO UPSET. I WANT GWEN TO STAN CARLOS AS MUCH AS I DO.

Now, some somewhat sobering thoughts...

We all know season 1 had a real diversity and inclusion problem, we’ve seen the numbers. We also know that during the promotion for season 1, we ALSO got a diversity promo focusing on the LGBTQIA+ characters and the characters of color. I love that Fox wants to highlight the incredibly talented actors and characters that they have, but all of it means nothing if they are still tokens on the show.

I have full faith that season 2 will be better, that some of the justified anger and frustration made it back to the writers and they internalized it and then make some real changes. However, because we did get a diversity promo last year, I have to remain a little cautious. This promo doesn’t really mean anything and if, somehow, season 2 goes the way season 1 did, it will be another instance of Fox using the characters of color to draw people in without actually giving them screentime and development. Which is a HUGE PROBLEM. So... I’m very excited and very hopeful, but also slightly wary.

Similarly, I’ve seen people say that they’re worried that, while there is so much Tarlos in this promo, this might be all the Tarlos we get this season. I don’t share the same concern, but like the diversity issue, I understand where that comes from. There was a lot of Tarlos in season 1′s promos and, as we now know, they got screentime in episodes 1-3 and then virtually nothing until episode 10.

I kind of lost track of the filming schedule, but I think before they went on the holiday/extended hiatus, they filmed the first 5-6 episodes? Maybe? And we know that we’re getting 14 total this season, which means it’s possible that they haven’t even filmed half of them.

I think the footage that we got in this promo is from, like, 3 or 4 episodes max. Definitely episodes 1 and 2, maybe 4, possibly 5. The crossover is episode 3 and I am still expecting to barely see Carlos in it - I just think it’s going to be very fire heavy one, especially with the members of the 118 coming in to steal screentime. He could be in one scene, maybe? Idk, I’m just not expecting a lot from that episode.

And sure, we could get a lot of Tarlos at the beginning and then nothing for a whole string of episodes, but that also just doesn’t seem possible with the way they’ve restructured the relationship dynamics. Like, it really does seem like Carlos is going to be a part of the family this year, so I think it will be easier to include him and harder to delete him entirely. (Please let him at least appear in every single episode, I don’t want to be so fucking angry like last year.)

Also, if all of these scenes stay in the episodes, we are getting AT LEAST 4 Tarlos conversations - the firehouse, the wrestling match, the farmer’s market, the flirting by the truck - and other scenes of them being in the same space as part of a group. I’m sure there will be even more that we’re just not seeing. I’m very optimistic for this season and for the Tarlos content, and I really don’t think we’ll see the front-loaded imbalance that we saw last season. I think when they get back to filming the later episodes, there will be a good amount of Tarlos content in those, too!

I will say, though, that I am worried we’ve just seen the only kiss that they’ll share in the first 5 or so episodes. I’m just so used to network TV placing a limit on gay kisses, and Idk how much that has really changed in recent years. I truly love this kiss, and I hope there are more, but I would not be surprised if we end the season having only gotten like 2-3. (PLEASE LET ME BE WRONG.)

thoughts on the andrea chu article abt a little life? i think a lot of people who hvnt read the book r hitching their wagon to “trauma porn” as a primary criticism for that book…. is it just me who found so many moments of love and the intensity of human condition highlighted thru out? i agree certain aspects of the book are messed up but i feel like the article criticises it for all the wrong reasons? calling it trauma porn especially is so offensive when it doesn’t glorify trauma in any way..

I liked the article mostly tbh. I thought it didn't dig deep enough into what the trauma porn really signified in terms of both the current literary landscape and hanya's own views, etc—she touched on hanya's views briefly like with the therapy, but i think it would've benefited from a more indepth analysis of those elements. i also wonder if the article would've been more incisive if it had had input from a black reader who had read a little life or was familiar with yanagiharas work. but overall i think it was a very promising signal of the tide shifting to be less blindingly adoring of a little life.

AND PLEASEEE ur not, those 2 things were like the main part of the praise for it and the reason for most peoples (including mine unfortunately) enduring care for it lol, like in the reviews i read after the 1st time i read they really tended to focus on the the relationships between the characters and the ~Commentary on human existence😭😭 those can still be elements that are important to people AND be undermined by, like, the trauma porn in the story. but yeah like the thing is for me, a little life is complicated bc when i find it beautiful it is so very beautiful but when it is in the trenches of abuse/self harm or trying to exist in a vaccuum wrt said abuse or race, it is just fucking awful. i agree with you that the book doesn't glorify trauma but it absolutely fetishises and exploits it. the extensive depictions of jude cutting himself are stomach turning and like, the reverential tone jude takes towards self harm in those scenes (that it cleanses him, etc) that are meant to show the extent of jude's obsession with it and all, just give it this weird fetishistic tone where i can understand why people would see it as glorification.

I also think that it's important to consider the main reason that people hitch their criticisms to it being trauma porn, either having read it or not, is because it is so central to the narrative. there is no avoiding it. after a certain point, jude is barely a character outside of his trauma, despite all evidence we're told to the contrary. there are absolutely other issues, youre right—the most glaring ones to me are hanyas refusal to write developed women around her men (which i really wish alc had covered what with the article literally being called hanyas BOYS), and her lackadaisical attitude toward racial and sexual identity, but i think that those can get swept away under the deluge of, like, jude literally getting his skin fried two different times. i've read the book 2½ times and i come back to it because i like how sprawingly it's overwritten and how the relationships progress, but i think it has a LOT of fucking issues and i am glad that the mainstream literary consensus is slowly starting to give way to that fact. sorry if this doesn't make sense in places i've written it like 5 different times today and my brain is revision mush lol

Def Mood on the whole part about bangel's wedding being played for drama and angst but also, for me one of the main reasons is because even with all of their scenes together, their dynamic still felt underwhelming when you take out all the dramatic angst scenes? Like sure ok I will sit through seasons 1 2 and then 3 while I watch them but I always end up liking their conversation more in season 7 which is ironic, given that it feels kind of thrown in, but it's also just one where it felt like both were more or less on an equal footing to me. Buffy was older and a lot more experienced while being a slayer, she didn't take Angel's crap when he was jealous of Spike, but she was also honest about her feelings in general towards him. I guess part of the reason why I liked it is because it didn't feature Angel having more say in what happens to them, but Buffy does for once, since he was the one that broke them up in season 3 and then in "I Will Remember You", and while I don't think it was necessarily bad, since it did end up being a good choice for him to go his own way, it still felt a bit unbalanced to me bc again, Buffy had no real say in it. And I can never really be into the season 5 scene either (when Joyce dies) mainly because it just feels like Buffy is in mourning, and she's trying to cling onto the one thing she previously knew and felt something intensely for.

I know you just made that post to highlight one reason and that's def valid, so I hope this doesn't come off as me correcting you bc I also agree.

as for what you said about bangel, I don’t really have a big problem with the wedding dream other than my own personal distaste towards most weddings, but I get finding them a bit boring together. in my first watch through I barely thought about them at all. and especially in season 3, their relationship can be downright confusing. I used to always forget when they were dating and when they weren’t, cause they were always flip flopping between two extremes.

honestly I’m really surprised you like the chosen scene. it always bothered me how the kiss came out of nowhere, and joss & co were obviously trying to throw both bangel and spuffy shippers a bone without fully committing to one or the other. but honestly I do love how mature buffy is in that scene. and seeing her be so confident in her identity in a way she’s never been before. I actually liked the forever scene a lot. I liked that buffy could take comfort in something familiar, even if just for a while. also it was the only post s3 angel cameo that I didn’t found completely out of character when I first watched btvs.

honestly I always felt like their relationship was very unequal. it’s certainly not equivalent to what a real life relationship between a teenager and a 20 something would look like, but I always felt like angel had more autonomy and choices in the relationship, and there’s lots of evidence that he still viewed her as a kid (remember when he straight up called her a brat? big ole yikes there). it’s not a coincidence that buffy broke it off with angel twice in s3 and spent a lot of time trying to avoid him, but it’s angel who actually gets the last say. and he did it in such a shitty way too. I think he was in the right to break up with her, since their relationship was clearly doomed, and he actually became his own person once he left sunnydale, but he used such self righteous reasoning, and he made buffy’s struggles all about him (like in s2 when Buffy said she wanted a normal life and angel was like “before me” 🤡🤡). it was good for angel, but it was not good for buffy. he told her he wanted her to have a normal relationship, and you know what she did? she immediately rushed into a relationship with a normal guy and got hurt. buffy was way more vulnerable in their relationship than angel was, and I just can’t find myself to care about angel as much as I care about buffy in their dynamic.

honestly I have so much to say about their power dynamic. it’s not even the age gap, it’s just that angel has so much baggage that he dumps on this teenage girl without caring about the emotional consequences for her. also all the ‘old man angel’ jokes on ats just make me sideeye their relationship even more. and this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I feel like angel traumatized buffy way more than spike did. before s6 spike was pretty much just a nuisance that was rarely taken seriously, and even in s6 buffy was already going through some tough shit. he really only made up a small part of her struggles. compared with the stuff with angelus that made buffy feel like loving her was dangerous and synonymous with death. over the years she felt so much shame for her decisions (that were not her fault at all), and her experience with angel overshadowed her relationships in a way that is not romantic at all (I hate how some people romanticize buffy struggling to tell her love interests she loves them, as if it’s because she’s still in love with angel and not because she’s scared that being vulnerable in that way again will only lead to suffering for both her and everyone around her). and obviously a lot of it isn’t his fault, but it unfolds in a way that makes me really fall on buffy’s side.

so yeah. I have Many Thoughts ™ about this, which is weird cause I honestly don’t dislike bangel half of the time. I think a lot of their scenes are cute, and I sometimes get wrapped up in the dramatic romance too. but they had some major problems, and I just really dislike the idea of them ending up together. they’re just such different people at the end of their respective shows, and maybe if they had a fresh start they could make it work, but buffy had so many of her insecurities tied up in her relationship to angel that I just don’t think they could ever get past that. even if buffy herself gets over it, there’s always gonna be that implication that their relationship only leads to pain, and I don’t want that for buffy. that’s why a lot of my preferred buffy ships involve more internal conflict. it leaves room for them to change and grow together, not forcing them to be apart, and having to deal with the wreckage by themselves
