Indieweb.Social: on the Fediverse - Looking for New Patreon Support

So for several years, I’ve been running Indieweb.Social - It is a Mastodon instance/community that unites the interests of developers working on the “#Indieweb,” “#Distributed social,” and “#Fediverse” worlds.

We created a space where supporters of each endeavor could communicate and exchange information as they are all linked initiatives with comparable objectives.

It’s now the 6th largest of all Tech #Mastodon instances. It is the main host for emerging platforms like [Bonfire] (https://indieweb.social/@bonfire) and others. Good discussions on future implementation of Indieweb standards on Mastodon go on here.

My server costs going up 5X shortly by my managed Mastodon host. This is not unreasonable given the size this instance has grown to. This is a labor of love for me & I’m very willing to do at a financial loss; and am very thankful for the 13 Patreon donors we have.

But would likely need about 9 more at a similar scale to be at a sustainable loss for me.

No, no hablaré ni de historia ni tradiciones antes de los viajes de Colón, más bien, de como sea posible que en la actualidad aún existan hombres que sigan asociando los gustos de las mujeres a retajes culturales arcaicos. Hace poco tiempo, charlando con un hombre que, visto su estatus social de emprendedor, su exitosa carrera académica y, su inquietudes culturales, me dejó a decir poco decepcionada cuando opinando de cinematografía, delante de mi declaración de amor por el Director Stanley Kubrick, se quedó maravillado comentando que una señorita tan agradable como mi (me estaba tocando el violín 😁), estimara y conocía tan profundamente un artista para nada sencillo como el. No solo. Siguió como a darme, al parecer, sugerencias que a su aviso, encajaran más con mi “sexualidad”. Por supuesto, vista la dificultad de comunicación y comprensión sobre el tema, elegí de desviar el dialogo hacía algo más banal, justo para no acabar con la clásica pelea verbal, dando explicaciones de cosa y como me tiene que gustar. De verdad, mi comprensión delante estas pasadas y antiguas asociaciones, entre gustos y genero, no encuentra explicación. Quick! What do you get if Oasis, Mandopop star Jay Chou, Orlando Bloom and an acoustic guitar birthed together a grown man? If you guessed Dantès aka Dailiang aka Christophe Hisquin you’d be correct! Nice test tubbing work guys! A starry-eyed Christophe arrived from France in the year 2000 fresh off the boat and immediately fell in love with the culture while seeing the potential to grow in China. He quickly mastered the language in a matter of hours, picked up his guitar and set to work writing his special brand of acoustic Mandorock. If writing in Mandarin and French was not enough, he added in English songs to create a menage trois of tongues. His repertoire of French pop with a Chinese (no MSG) twist gained enough momentum to cement him several appearances on televisions across the land. His knack for language learning and quips in the local dialects propelled him even further into the homes of swooning and crooning girls as a host of quite a few TV variety shows. Let’s stop right here for a minute. Is it really that easy to master a foreign tongue, write and perform songs in that language and appear on 1.3 billion television screens all while keeping that trim physique? Yes. Yes it is. Only for Christophe. Not for you. Nor for I. His three chord song progressions are so versatile that he can don a pair of ripped jeans and a Gallagher bros t-shirt while tearing up the stage at a dive bar one minute and wear Song Dynasty anti-blackface face paint and put on a Beijing Opera version of his songs the next!
