I think so often about a person I saw going insane on a drug decrim post like a year ago. the op was like "there are plenty of extreme sports that I could perfectly legally start tomorrow with no practice that are exactly as (if not more) dangerous than using schedule 1 drugs like heroin" and this person just lost it. the thing that got me is that their main post was like "shut up with your fucking individualistic bullshit, your actions affect the people around you. saying 'I want to take heroin, I know the risks' is exactly like saying 'I don't want to get vaccinated, I know the risks,' they're both selfish and small minded" which. lol. lmao, even. but then they added something in the tags about "yes we need to destigmatize addiction but you can't tell people that using drugs is fine." as if they didn't even realize what they were saying. they nominally wanted to support addicts and recovery while straight-faced saying that using drugs is exactly like being anti-vaxx.

and this is a sentiment I've seen echoed in a lot of leftist leaning spaces. there are so many people who can just about handle the idea of supporting people in recovery but think it is the most evil and heinous thing in the world to use drugs in the first place, and they don't seem to even have a basic understanding that those two ideas are in conflict. like, dude, you can't "hate the sin love the sinner" on this one. if you want people to treat addicts better then you have to be cool with the idea that sometimes people want to use drugs. if you say you hate anyone who uses / wants to use drugs then you aren't really destigmatizing anything.

My November 5th experience was being completely unplugged from basically all social media - I was tracking the election through AP News - and not watching Supernatural live because I had it slated to binge over Christmas break. I was diligently avoiding spoilers. None of my friends were spn fans. No one I knew would have had that episode on.

I still heard the barest of whispers. Half caught glimpses of recommended entertainment headlines. Did... Did Destiel go canon in S15??? No. It's just clickbait. They would never. I am not falling for a bunch of shippers overhyping another plausibly deniable bro bonding quote no matter how much soft romantic lighting the crew slipped into it.
