All the Sloths (Intersex-Inclusive Progress) - Pride Sloths
Boy howdy did the chevrons on this one and the Progress flag give me a hard time! I hope no one's bothered by slightly wonky triangles… [Image description: Four cartoon sloths standing bipedally in a line, each with an Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride flag in some way or another. The first one wears the flag as a cape; the second one is holding the flag on a stick; the third one is waving it in the air; the fourth one is holding the flag up in front of itself. The sloths are all slightly different shades of brown. The Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag has the 6-stripe rainbow flag as it's base. From the left-hand side of the flag, a set chevrons point into the middle of the flag. The outermost strip of the chevron is black, followed by brown, then pale blue, pale pink, and pale white. At the centre of the chevrons, right up against the left-hand side of the flag, is a yellow triangle with a purple circle in the centre.]

NOTE: as a white, bisexual, transgender, and questioning intersex person, i am of the opinion that you do not need to be all four modality types (BIPOC*, SGA**, trans, intersex) included in the flag. i am okay with allies using these to show support, as that is what i believe this particular flag is for across the world. however, i am only one individual and others may disagree, so please keep that in mind and listen to them.
*BIPOC - black, indigenous, people of color. racial term.
**SGA - same-gender attracted. queer term.

Second time in about 48 hours that I have gone into the search mines to bring out a specific pride flag for my blog only to be met with either long or thoughtless posts about how x flag is the most inferior or y flag is the most superior while shitting on other flag designs. Like, I am all for making as many flags as you want — the more the merrier no monopolies here. I would just like for people to keep in mind:
Which communities (including geographical and cultural!!!) specific flags come from and why they were created.
You do not need to be represented by every single stripe for the flag to be applicable to you.
If a flag is featuring a specific identity there's probably a reason for that, I don't care if it's ugly.
Please cite sources and inspiration! Flags represent communities and usually come from community involvement and influence.
Seriously unless a flag was made purposefully to demean or alienate others it's probably fine. You don't have to use it or prefer it and you can be annoyed with it but it doesn't mean it's the end of the world.
#Apparently the polyam flag was '''''''''“officially'''''''''''' redesigned a year ago and I don't even consider polyamory to be#_inherently_ queer but I don't consider leather to be _inherently_ queer either and like the leather pride flag was like the second ever#pride flag and was used in a Pride parade across the country from where it was designed less than a month after it was revealed.#Anyways it's fine if aromantic or other polyamorous people don't feel like they have infinite love but#a) π is not infinite it is _irrational_ and it's decimal _expression_ is infinite and#b) π is literally just the Greek letter p‚ like the Greek rootword poly πολύς.#If you aren't a Black or brown person from Philadelphia then I don't really think it's your place to reject the Philly Pride flag.#Yes there has previous been a black stripe on a rainbow flag to represent AIDS. Colors can mean multiple things. The spectrum for visible#color for humans is only so broad and we are so good at coming up with meaning and nuance.#People talk about ''Queer is a slur.'' being a TERF talking point but I don't see nearly enough people talking about#''Not all intersex people want to be included in LGBTQIA+.'' as one too. I rarely ever see this coming from intersex people and I have#NEVER seen it on a post actually about intersex rights. It's always a throw-away comment when they're criticizing other queer people.#I'm agender and don't consider myself trans. It's fine if specific intersex people don't consider themselves queer. The I still belongs.#And even if it DIDN'T that would mean the Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag has MORE reason for existing not less.#If intersex people aren't inherently included in the rainbow flag then that means a flag representing the union of queer people and#intersex people has a PURPOSE and isn't redundant.#personal#...I might have used too many tags so that might not show on my blog. I forget if the limit is 14 or 20.#I just wanted to reblog pictures of the πolyamory flag and the 2017 Gilbert Baker nine-stripe rainbow flag and here I am getting annoyed#and irritated.#Ugh this is probably gonna show in search results too because I didn't censor anything.#Well while I'm pissing people off I will give my hot take that the biggest crime of the leather‚ trans‚ and lipstick lesbian pride flags is#all these dang white stripes in the center.#Other hot takes: More people need to take a leaf from the bi flag and vary their stripe widths please.#Also while it can easily be overdone‚ I like the symbols in the corner of the leather ❤‚ bear 🐾‚ and lipstick lesbian 💋 flags.#Also hot take I've posted before: the 8- or 9-stripe rainbow flags and the sunset lesbian flag can be for you even if you're ace and/or#sex repulsed. The flags aren't like... criteria for an identity. Not to bring up something horrible like the US empire but you don't have#to have lived in one of the thirteen colonies for those red and white stripes to still represent you.#I hate that the TERFs use the colors of the suffragette flag in heart emojis 💜🤍💚 and that those colors are so similar to the genderqueer#flag (a coincidence on the part of the creator of the genderqueer flag).

So, some of my badge designs and drawings do not work well with the Progress Pride flag and the Intersex Inclusive pride flags. Just because the triangles don't always work with certain shapes or designs. So I made a couple of versions where they are all in stripes. I use these when the other versions don't work but still want to use them.
Feel free to download them for your own use: They're 300dpi and 5000x2967 px in size.
They can also be found on my google drive here - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aEkJ91svFUVknobHftk_Rwy8bFxeySqI?usp=drive_link

(Image description: ten square pride flags with white text that reads "you'll never have the comfort of our silence again".)
The flags are the intersex inclusive progress pride, trans, leather, genderqueer, bisexual, pansexual, gay man, lesbian, intersex, and nonbinary flags.
These are inspired by this post, an image of a sign taken at an anti-Anita Bryant protest in 1978.

Pride Backlighting Tutorial
A few people have shown interest in replicating the pride backlighting I did, so hey, here’s a quick tutorial below the cut.
Enjoy, and happy Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈
STEP 1 — SETUP
First thing you’ll want to do is find a suitably dark background to bounce the light off of. I use the White Screen housing item dyed Soot Black, available from the Housing Merchant or Apartment Merchant in any of the housing zones for 3000 gil.
I line up 2-3 of them for coverage, but one will do if you're trying to be frugal.
Tumblr media
If you don’t have an apartment or an FC room to use, try asking friends, FC mates, or even folks you share a Discord server with. You might even find someone who already has a studio space set up and is willing to let you use it!
Lighting in your studio space should be 0 (though you might have success at 1 as well), so make sure to adjust that or ask the studio owner if they can make that change before you start posing.
Tumblr media
STEP 2 — GPOSE
Position your character(s) just a little ways back from the edge of the screen. You want some space between them and the screen so that the lighting can float there without casting a weird circle on the wall.
Hop into /gpose and bump up the “Manual brightness adjustment” to about 120 or whatever level allows you to see your character well enough to pose them. Pose to your heart's content.
Tumblr media
STEP 3 — LIGHTS
Here’s the fun part. In the Light tab of the Gpose menu, switch all of your Light sources to Type 1, which has the shortest falloff radius (meaning it doesn't reach as far as Type 2 or 3). I also set all of my lights to one strong color to differentiate them while I worked on lighting—red, green, and blue, all maxed out at 255 (for now).
Swing your camera (still on all default settings) around to your character’s back and up above their head a little ways. This is where Light 1 (red) will go.
Now pan your camera down at about mid-back height and set Light 2 (green) there.
Pan your camera down one last time until you have a nice shot of your character’s butt and set Light 3 (blue).
Tumblr media
Spin your camera back around and enjoy this nice little macaw-colored gradient.
STEP 4 — CAMERA
Set your camera angle.
The way FFIXV’s lighting works is partially dependent on how much light is in a shot. It will adjust a lot like your eyes do when you’re entering a dark room from a bright room, or vice versa. Your zoom level and camera angle are going to directly affect the lighting, so set this before you start messing with light strength and color. Sometimes this means weaker lighting will actually light your character better.
I ended up bringing my lights down to around ~160 and boosted the "Manual brightness adjustment" up quite a bit to get lighting I was happier with.
For a straightforward vertical shot, I like to have my Field of View (FOV) at 200 and of course my rotation is set to 90. Zoom in or out as needed. Remember to save your camera angle if you plan to pan around and fix things!
Tumblr media
STEP 5 — COLOR
Make it ~queer~.
Take your flag of choice and pick out 2-3 “main” hues. Generally these will be the strongest hues in the flag, if not the only ones. Some flags, like the Pride/Progress/Intersex-Inclusive flag itself, are difficult to replicate for the sheer number of colors that are in it. You can loosely represent a rainbow with some adjustment to the RGB colors, if you’re determined to have a whole rainbow in there.
Shader Note: I recommend picking a shader preset that doesn’t mess too much with color so that colors are represented correctly. You may need to adjust light strength and “Manual brightness adjustment” to be compatible with your preset of choice. Bloom will also heavily affect the way your colors are showing up, so you may need to tone down the bloom FX or toggle it off entirely. This all depends on your preset, however.
If you’re not into RGB math, here are some cheat sheets! Not every flag is represented here of course, but I tried to cover as many colors as I could so that you could grab a color from another flag as needed! Please note that colors will need some adjustment for your own screenshot, presets, and preferences.
And that’s it, y’all! 🏳️‍🌈
(Open this image up in a new tab for more detail.)
Tumblr media
These were taken using a heavily customized shader for that nice glowy effect.

happy happy pride month my fellow lgbt+ folk ! <3
[ID] an artwork of Ladybug and Chat Noir from Miraculous Ladybug marching in a pride parade. They are linked together arm in arm holding Valentino Vecchietti's Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride flag as a cape. Ladybug is wearing a single bi pride flag bin, while Chat Noir is wearing a black t shirt that has text going from "pride month" in white fading away to a rainbow "demon" in all caps, a pan pride flag pin, and a nonbinary pride flag pin. The background is slightly blurry and shows several other pride flags decorating the buildings as rainbow confetti falls from the sky [/ID]

Since today marks the 53rd year since the first Pride parade took place, let's dive into the history of the "progress" of our Pride flag.
This new flag is called the Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag, created by Valentino Vecchietti of Intersex Equality Rights UK in 2021. It is an update to the previous Progress Pride Flag created in 2018 by Daniel Quasar.
Tumblr media
The original pride flag was created in the 1970s by gay activist Gilbert Baker, friend of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California. The flag made its debut at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration on June 25, 1978. Baker used eight colors―
Tumblr media
― hot pink for sexuality, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for the sun, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit.
Tumblr media
Why Was Pink Removed From the Pride Flag?
The original hot pink color was removed from the pride flag because the fabric was difficult to find.
Tumblr media
The Progress Pride Flag was created with the inspiration of other pride flags—specifically, the Philadelphia Pride Flag from 2017 and the trans flag.
The Philadelphia Pride Flag had black and brown vertical stripes added. The trans flag, created in 1999, is pink, baby blue, and white. Both of these flags inspired the design of the new pride flag.
Black and Brown Represents People of Color
The Philadelphia Pride Flag was designed by the Philadelphia Office of LGBT Affairs and was done in partnership with advertising agency Tierney. It was introduced at a City Hall ceremony in June of 2017. The flag showed the traditional six rainbow colors in horizontal stripes, with a black and a brown stripe atop them.
The colors black and brown were added to the Progress Pride Flag to represent people of color (POC). This was an important addition because people of color have often been left out of the queer narrative despite being the driving force behind the movement.
With the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, culture at large began to shift in a much-needed way towards acknowledging the vital roles that people of color have had in our society. The pride movement background is one of many areas where POC, particularly Black people, did not receive the recognition they deserved historically. Adding colors to represent them on the flag is one way to change that.
Additionally, the black and brown stripes are meant to represent people living with HIV/AIDS, those who have died from it, and the stigma around the virus that is still present in our society now.
Tumblr media
Pink, Baby Blue, and White Represent Trans People
Transwoman Monica Helms created the trans pride flag, which first flew in a pride parade in Phoenix, Arizona back in 2000. Monica Helms is a transgender activist, author, and U.S. Navy veteran.
Traditionally, the colors pink and baby blue have been used to represent whether a baby is a boy or a girl. Here, the colors denote those genders. The color white represents people who are transitioning, intersex, or identify outside of the gender binary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The word "progress" in the new flag isn't only about adding the new colors to it. It's also because of the shape, which differs from the original design of horizontal stripes only. The Progress Pride Flag shows the white, pink, baby blue, black, and brown stripes in a triangle shape, with the old six-color rainbow stacked next to them.
This was done intentionally to convey the separation in meaning and shift focus to how important the issues represented on the left are.
The placement of the new colors in an arrow shape is meant to convey the progress still needed. Quasar spoke publicly about how work is still needed in terms of POC and trans rights. This arrow design is meant to highlight that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although the Pride flag continues to evolve, the most recent update includes a yellow triangle with a purple circle inside it to represent the intersex community. It now serves as the most up-to-date LGBTQIA+ flag.

I have synesthesia and colors have a taste here's what pride flags taste like to me:
Rainbow: vanilla custard with almond extract
Progress pride (specifically intersex inclusive): cold vanilla custard (not frozen) with almond extract and chocolate chips and big pieces of unsweetened coconut with salt
gay/mlm: almond extract, fresh black cherries
lesbian: this one is meal to me. Full on meatloaf with mashed potatoes
Nonbinary: coconut shrimp with hoisin sauce
Trans: specific hard candy i can only get mail order, nectar flavor or maybe rose or somewhere in between. Platonic ideal of hard candy, really. Non sour.
Asexual: cold barbecue salmon (in a good way)
Aromantic: kinda like a very specific jelly bean i only can find on easter, tastes the same as pure green food coloring to me.
Demisexual: still salmon, but a different sauce, hoisin maybe? I guess the shapes do affect the taste a bit.
That's all the ones i can think of right now, drop more pride flags in the notes and I'll respond later with what they taste like to me!
(please don't judge me for not thinking of your identity I haven't taken my medications yet)

AMC Lincoln Square (1998 Broadway). Introduction by Academy Award-nominated, Emmy-winning director Julie Cohen.]
Summary of the film:
"Every Body is a revelatory investigation of the lives of intersex people. The film tells the stories of three individuals who have moved from childhoods marked by shame, secrecy, and non-consensual surgeries to thriving adulthoods after each decided to set aside medical advice to keep their bodies a secret and instead came out as their authentic selves. Actor and screenwriter River Gallo (they/them), political consultant Alicia Roth Weigel (she/they), and Ph.D. student Sean Saifa Wall (he/him) are now leaders in a fast-growing global movement advocating for greater understanding of the intersex community and an end to unnecessary surgeries. Woven into the story is a stranger-than-fiction case of medical abuse, featuring exclusive footage from the NBC News archives, which helps explain the modern-day treatment of intersex people."
I just got back from watching an early screening of this film and it was beautiful, powerful, and meaningful in ways I did not expect! Met so many intersex people in my city and it was just really really, incredible.
Really recommend watching this film for any intersex people. This is the link to rsvp to the free screenings.
The film will also be available in theaters on June 30th.
So, so excited about this!

Why are "Crabs" and "Brazil" different flag categories? Arent they both "some image centered in the middle of a maybe-patterned-maybe-not field"? What's the difference and why's it enough to split the categories? Also would Mexico be a Crabs or a Brazil
so, to explain crabs:
The way VGAPride works is that it has a simple vector drawing language which is used to compose almost all the flags. so, like, a simple pride flag like the pansexual pride flag, which is just three stripes, will be coded like this:
static GraphicsCommand pansexual_pride_flag_commands[]={ GraphicsCommand(Rectangle,Left(h_3_0),Right(h_3_1),RGB(255, 33,140)), GraphicsCommand(Rectangle,Left(h_3_1),Right(h_3_2),RGB(255,216, 0)), GraphicsCommand(Rectangle,Left(h_3_2),Right(h_3_3),RGB( 33,177,255)), GraphicsCommand(EndCommandList) };
It's basically just "draw a rectangle from here in this color", then another two stripes done the same way. Nearly every flag is done this way.
Now, the crab pride flags, are way more complicated. They are pixel art, technically: they needed manual dithering to fit into the right number of colors. That was tricky and involved a lot of me zoomed way in on an image, redrawing individual pixels and shit.
So instead of doing it like this with the vector commands, they're instead compressed as just pixels, but separated into multiple planes (because EGA is... weird) and then compressed with the LZ4 algorithm. So to display them, instead of doing a lot of vector shit, it just decompresses it into VRAM, job done. But they are in separate files because the "source code" for them is automatically generated by a python script, and I don't want it stomping on the manually defined vector commands.
And Brazil... Brazil is still a vector-defined flag. But it's one that's SO COMPLICATED compared to EVERY OTHER FLAG that I had to put it in a separate file to keep Borland Turbo C++ 3.0 from crashing trying to compile it.
Tumblr media
Just about every other flag is some stripes and maybe a triangle or two. the Gay flag of Brazil is 6 stripes and a big diamond and a circle and a bunch of stars of different sizes and a white ribbon and some text. It's just SO COMPLICATED compared to everything else.
The second biggest pride flag is the Intersex-inclusive Progress Pride Flag:
Tumblr media
(which I just realized the title doesn't fit on screen. Whoops. Gotta fix that!)
That complicated flag with all the stripes and chevrons and circles is an amazing 21 commands!
Brazil is FIFTY SEVEN commands. (I even added a "Star" command to the vector language just to make it simpler!)
The second biggest and third biggest pride flags could fit inside the brazil pride flag WITH ROOM TO SPARE.
Anyway, the real question: Mexico: Crabs or Brazil?
Given the complexity of the mexican flag, if I had to add a mexican gay-pride flag, it'd probably be a crab.
