found a new favorite series :3
Soulbound by Hailey Turner
im surprise this book isnt talked about a lot/ considering the content of this novel, and the internet's love for Supernatural (the series) and percy jackson, i imagine this would be the perfect read for those who shared the same interest in the genre.
this series has it all, mages, witches, sorcery, detective/ special agent (and not the pretending to be one type too lol ) , found family, werewolves /werecreatures (like weretigers etc) , vampire, demon/angel & alpha/pack shenanigans, mythical deities from different pantheons.
Plus , guessing who the deity is and from what pantheon they are is part of the fun, i pat myself on the back when i got a guessed right.
And best of all, im a sucker for 'Over protective mother hen x Tortured soul with suicidal tendencies' ship dynamic~~~
So yes, make way for A N G S T.

Queer Reviews: Hailey Turner "A Vigil in the Mourning" (Soulbound #4).
Tumblr media
CW: explicit sexual content, mildly graphic violence
Plot: Special Agent Patrick Collins is dispatched to Chicago, chasing a lead on the Morrígan’s staff for the joint task force. Needing a cover for his presence in the Windy City, Patrick is ordered to investigate a politician running for mayor. In the lead up to election day, not everything is what it seems in a city where playing to win means appeasing the gods first and the electorate second.
But Chicago brings its own set of problems outside the case: a stand-offish local god pack, a missing immortal, and Patrick’s twin sister. Fighting Hannah and the Dominion Sect provides Patrick with a sinister reminder that some blood ties can never be cut.
Left behind in New York City, Jonothon de Vere finds himself targeted by hunters who will go through anyone to kill him—including the packs under his protection. With a bounty on his head, Jono is forced to make a choice that Patrick would never approve of. Doing so risks breaking the trust he’s built with the man he loves, but not acting will give the rival New York City god pack leverage Jono can’t afford to give up.
When Patrick and Jono reunite in Chicago, Patrick must confront the fraying of a relationship he’s come to rely on for his own sanity. But fixing their personal problems will have to wait—because Niflheim is clawing at the shores of Lake Michigan and the dead are hungry.
9/10 on the Rainbow Scale™ 🌈: *screams into the abyss* I'm fine *keeps screaming some more*
Don't you hate it when a found family gets separated for a majority of the story? Because I do. I hate it so much. I JUST WANT MY CHILDREN TO BE HAPPY, IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND? Anyway, loved the book. I'm always a sucker for Norse mythology as well as a good mystery. The twist right before the final battle left me SHOOKETH. Protect Wade at all costs.

SOULBOUND series
DEAR LORD, there is no fandom for the Soulbound series by Hailey Turner. At least not that I can find! This has never happened to me before, and I want to talk and see all the fandom posts, but there are none! So if someone happens to stumble across this, and they’ve read it and want to talk, please hit me up!
Or if you are looking for a fic rec, here it is! Go read the Soulbound series!! It’s not high literature by any means, but it’s fun, and I eagerly await each new book before it comes out.
What is it about, you ask? Kind of a... modern supernatural/magic series. It’s set in the US, where most things are the same, except for the presence of magic and the supernatural. But unlike a lot of others, all of it is pretty well know by people, and has been for who knows how long. The world building is pretty cool, in my opinion, and how werewolves, witches, vampires, Seelies, and all fit in to this familiar-but-not world is super interesting.
But mostly it’s the characters! Found family trope all the way! With, you know, pack dynamics, if you are into that. Weirdest pack ever. A god pack werewolf, a mage, a weretiger, and a dragon.
Awesome action scenes too! So if you need a fun, popcorn flick type book? This is it! Plus, MLM representation. And mythology. Lots of mythology!
Anyway, here’s a link to the series on GoodReads. Hopefully I can entice even a few people to read the series so I have someone to talk to!

Two series that am currently loving
1. The plumbers mates mysteries by Jl Merrow.
M/M fiction involving Tom- plumber who can find hidden objects such as dead bodies and Phil a PI, Ex-cop. Oh and they hated each other in high school
2. The soulbound series by Hailey Turner
M/M fiction. Fantasy fixed with Crime
Side note- another short series I loved was Carry The Ocean and it’s sequel by Heidi Cullian. I loved how authentic this book was in looking at mental health and autism.

Title: A Veiled & Hallowed Even Series: Soulbound #7 Author: Hailey Turner Release Date: October 1st, 2021
Synopsis: Death is the last lover you will ever know. SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins has lived a life full of lies, and it has finally caught up with him. There’s no denying his past any longer, not after giving up the truth to save himself from a murder charge. But truth alone can’t set Patrick free, and time is running out to stop the Dominion Sect from turning his father into a god. Jonothon de Vere knows survival isn’t a guarantee, but he’s desperate to keep Patrick safe, even as hope slips through his fingers. With the future unknown, Jono will follow Patrick wherever he goes, even to Salem, where a family reunion reveals a bitter secret that was never going to stay buried. With New York City under control of their god pack, Patrick and Jono must fall back on every alliance they’ve brokered to fill the front lines of a war coming directly to the city streets. The veil is always thinnest on Samhain, and what awaits them on the other side is the stuff of nightmares. For when it tears, all hell will break loose, and the gods will be summoned to face a reckoning the world isn’t ready for. The stakes have never been higher, failure has never been so deadly, and the Fates have never been kind to heroes. Patrick knows that better than anyone—because everything has a price, every debt always comes due, and it’s finally time for Patrick to pay his.
Personal Comments: My god... I couldn’t have asked for a better end to a long running series than this one. I was fortunate enough that I had the opportunity again to receive an arc copy of the book prior to release for a series that I fell in love with since book one! I’ll be honest it took me awhile to get through this one compared to how I normally rip through books but knowing that this was the finale I wanted to take my time and savor the reading experience to the fullest, which was what I ended up doing (while also juggling finishing a new released game and my day job on top). Seriously though if you still haven’t picked up one of Hailey’s books you are seriously both living under a rock and missing out on some of the most amazing storytelling I’ve had the pleasure to indulge in for the past 2.5 years now
Rating: [10/10] I honestly cannot put into words how to describe this finale, right off the bat we are thrown back into the story picking up where we left off in the last book seeing the repercussions Patrick is facing from his short but torturous time being possessed. Since this is the final book in the series it’s a guarantee that we’re going to see a lot of action happening in this book to wrap everything up and man was the suspense and tension well worth it! Thankfully Hailey didn’t decide to torture us throughout the entire book with just action and still managed to thoughtfully interweave calm and still ever present humor into the mix that just balances out the entire book as a whole. I don’t want to divulge too much as this book is SERIOUSLY spoiler heavy but one thing I will spill is that Hailey had mentioned before in interviews for other books in the series that since the story as a whole overarches all of the books as a whole to my amusement, of course she decided to throw basically every god that we’ve met throughout all 6 books prior in the finale! I actually had a moment where I had to try to remember which god came from which book since there were so many cameos LOL. I’m so glad that Patrick and Jono finally got the ending they deserved (and the vacation we’ve been promised since book 1) after 7 long books but I seriously really hope Hailey would write a follow up novella or something to show how they doing after that last scene at the end of the book because who can say no to a wedding? :)
Recommend?: [YES] I am not kidding when I say this book and series overall has to be my all time favorite series I’ve ever had the pleasure of stumbling upon when I first started getting serious with reading again. The way Hailey manages to interweave so many characters as well as the dedication to the research that she had done for all of the pantheon of gods she’s introduced through every book is just a masterpiece in it’s own regard. This is just my own humble opinion but this series here is honestly the peak of urban fantasy and until someone can convince me otherwise I would come back to this series in a heartbeat and go on this adventure all over again.
Audio: I am still currently in the middle of listening to the book after it dropped the same day as the official release but man am I taking my sweet time with it just like with the book LOL. Gary’s narration as always is top notch and I can never get enough of his interpretation of both of our main characters as well as his excellent execution of all the other characters, especially our never ending bottomless pit of a dragon fledgling. I’m about halfway through the audio and once I am completely finished listening I’ll come back and update this section with the proper care that it deserves.

Queer Reviews: Hailey Turner, "A Crown of Iron & Silver" (Soulbound #3).

9/10 on the Rainbow Scale™ 🌈: We are going to Faerie!! I know this kind of mythology is overused at this point, but I still get hyped every time. I hear Sluagh and Wild Hunt, and I lose my mind. This book estabilishes Patrick and Jono as Wade's parents, which I love so much. These two become more and more married as the story goes on. I don't want to give too much a way, but shit is about to get real.

Queer Reviews: Hailey Turner, "All Souls Near & Nigh" (Soulbound #2).
Tumblr media
CW: explicit sexual content, mildly graphic violence, blood, nongraphic sexual assault
Plot: Special Agent Patrick Collins has been reassigned by the Supernatural Operations Agency to New York City. Navigating his new relationship with Jonothon de Vere, the werewolf he’s now soulbound to, is nothing compared to dealing with territorial disputes between the vampires and werecreatures who call the five boroughs home. But the delicate treaties that have kept the preternatural world in check are fraying at the edges, and the fallout is spilling into the mundane world.
Manhattan’s club scene is overrun with the vampire drug known as shine and the subways have become a dumping ground for bodies. When the dead are revealed as missing werecreatures, Patrick and Jono find themselves entangled in pack politics twisted by vampire machinations.
Learning to trust each other comes with problems for both of them, and the gods with a stake in Patrick’s soul debt aren’t finished with him yet. Bound by promises they can’t break, Patrick and Jono must find a way to survive a threat that takes no prisoners and is stalking them relentlessly through the city streets.
Old and new betrayals are coming home to roost but the truth—buried in blood—is more poisonous than the lies being spun. Trying to outrun death is a nightmare—one Patrick may never wake up from.
9/10 on the Rainbow Scale™ 🌈: I just recently finished all 7 books of this series and I'm still in the mourning period. This book deals mainly with Mesoamerican lore, with a little side of Native American, which I loved because they're not pantheons we often see in urban fantasy or paranormal romance. Patrick is still kicking ass and taking names, along with his sweet werewolf boyfriend. Jono just wants for his boyfriend to stay out of trouble and for the other packs to leave him alone. LOL, as if. Bonus points for the introduction of my baby boy Wade, by far the best character in the whole series, he brings me so much joy. I live for the Found Family trope and this series is a gift that just keeps on giving.

Queer Reviews: Hailey Turner, "A Ferry of Bones and Gold" (Soulbound #1).
Tumblr media
CW: explicit sexual content, graphic violence, blood and gore
Plot: Patrick Collins is three years into a career as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency when the gods come calling to collect a soul debt he owes them. An immortal has gone missing in New York City and bodies are showing up in the wake of demon-led ritual killings that Patrick recognizes all too easily from his nightmares.
Unable to walk away, Patrick finds himself once again facing off against mercenary magic users belonging to the Dominion Sect. Standing his ground alone has never been a winning option in Patrick’s experience, but it’s been years since he’s had a partner he could trust.
Looking for allies in all the wrong places, Patrick discovers the Dominion Sect’s next target is the same werewolf the Fates themselves have thrown into his path. Patrick has been inexplicably attracted to the man from their first meeting, but desire has no place in war. That doesn’t stop Patrick from wanting what he shouldn’t have. Jonothon de Vere is gorgeous, dangerous, and nothing but trouble—to the case, to the fight against every hell, and ultimately, to Patrick’s heart and soul.
In the end, all debts must be paid, and Patrick can only do what he does best—cheat death.
9/10 on the Rainbow Scale™ 🌈: I've seen a lot of people compare this series to Shadowhunters, so I'm going to go and admit something a bit controversial: I liked this so much better. It's sexier, much more violent and has the gay romance front and center instead of in the background. This book series is truly incredible: the characters are well rounded, the plot is incredibly compelling, the world building is on point and the romance is so beautiful. Patrick and Jono work so well together, their dynamic is really intriguing and only gets better as the series goes on. Patrck, much like Levi from Seven of Spades, belongs to the "Small guys who can and will fuck you up without a sweat" category and i love him for it. Jono just wants to keep his boyfriend out of trouble. Please pray for him.

Title: On the Wings of War Series: Soulbound #5 Author: Hailey Turner Release Date: September 2nd, 2020
Synopsis: Remembering the dead will always give them life. The coveted Morrígan’s staff is up for sale on the black market to the highest bidder, and SOA Special Agent Patrick Collins will do whatever it takes to ensure the Dominion Sect doesn’t get their hands on it. Returning the weapon to its rightful owner is another step on the long road toward clearing Patrick’s soul debt, but he won’t walk it alone. Jonothon de Vere won’t let him. Obeying the gods means Patrick must travel to London. For Jono, it means facing a past he thought he’d left behind forever. His return to England isn’t welcome, and neither is their pack, but Jono and Patrick will face the antagonism together. Politics aside, their priority must be the mission, but the bone-chilling secret they uncover in the London god pack will have far-reaching repercussions no one can ignore. A race against time takes Patrick and Jono from the streets of London to the bright lights of Paris, where hospitality is thin on the ground, the air is filled with whispered prayers for the missing, and the Morrígan’s staff will end up in the one place it should never have gone—a graveyard. For beneath Paris lie the long-forgotten dead, and when they rise to walk again, the living can only hope to die.
Personal Comments: So I fibbed a bit with my first review and I’ll be doing this book next since I’ve already written a Goodreads review for it to save me some time. I’ll start from the first book after this one but just like my review of An Echo in the Sorrow, Hailey the torturer strikes again with this entry. Also since all of her books minus her newest release have audiobooks I’ll be able to comment on the audio for this at the end for the first time.
Rating: [10/10] Honestly another amazing entry to an already hyped up series spanning only 2 years. Hailey is by far top tier urban fantasy author material and if my last review didn’t convince you to start reading her books your missing out big time. This time around instead of flying somewhere in the US which has been the local settings for previous books, Patrick and Jono (dreadfully) are taking a trip across the pond due to the a case popping up in England. We are introduced to a new god pack in London with a demon problem, much like the one Patrick and Jono are dealing with back home but in the form of a god pack alpha that wasn’t around when Jono was banished. We are also reunited with Nadine halfway through the story and are introduced to Spencer, who is brought in unofficially as our resident soulbreaker and was mentioned in earlier books but finally makes his entrance. At this point with an emphasis on gods in every entry and it’s been a while since I finished the book I’ve already forgotten with pantheon of gods show up in this book specifically. (Once a do a reread or another listen of the audio I’ll update this). One thing that I enjoy about this series, in particular, is that even though I love to read all the steamy details of every book I come across I appreciate the fact that it isn't the main focus in this series in particular, and that the main storyline takes center stage of every book (don't get me wrong whenever a smexy scene pops up I turn into a drooling mess). I also enjoy the further character development between Patrick and Jono and how their relationship as a whole is slowly growing, a jealous Pat was the most amusing thing I've read! Lastly, for me, the next star of this book besides our main protagonists of course goes to Wade and his food antics, though Spencer comes in at a close 2nd with his character finally being formally introduced. (If you see the amount of food related memes relating to Wade in Hailey’s reader group you’ll understand).
Recommend?: [YES] With the local change in this entry it’s a nice departure from previous books in the sense that the reader can see how physical distance plays a key part in the soulbond between Patrick and Jono. I’ll say this over and over again but do yourselves a favor and just pick up all of Hailey’s books and spend a whole weekend reading.
Audio: [10/10] If reading isn’t your thing or you just don’t have the time to sit down for hours on end, here comes the audiobook to the rescue! Gary Furlong who has been the narrator for the entire series thus far will take you on an adventure without having to read the words right in your ears. Gary brings the characters to life in a way that no 2 people sound the same. Add in accents for characters with different backgrounds and you’ll be drooling for days. (I’m not kidding I think I developed a English accent fetish from listening to Gary voice Jono).

Title: An Echo in the Sorrow Series: Soulbound #6 Author: Hailey Turner Release Date: March 1st, 2021
Synopsis: Forgiveness is a hollow prayer you only hear in your dreams. Patrick Collins has spent years handling cases as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency, even as his secret standing in the preternatural community has changed. He should have confessed to his role as co-leader of the New York City god pack when he and Jonothon de Vere took up the mantle months ago, but he didn't. Now that split loyalty will cost him at a time when he can least afford it. Outmaneuvered, framed for murder, and targeted by the Dominion Sect, Patrick has to face a past full of lies to regain his freedom. Revealing the truth means he'll need to give up the life that has defined him. Everything he's fought to build with his pack is at stake, and losing them isn't a price Patrick is willing to pay, but some choices aren't his to make. Jono knows they can't cede any more territory if they want to win the god pack civil war spilling into the streets of New York City. But the souls of werecreatures are free for the taking when demons come to town and angels sing a warning no one can ignore. When Jono's worst fear comes to life, and he loses the one person he can't live without, the only option left is to fight. Facing down the demons of their past and the ones in their present, Patrick and Jono will learn the hard way that some sins never wash away clean.
Personal Comments: I had received an ARC copy of book hence me writing this prior to release. Hailey for me ranks within the top 3 m/m authors (besides the fact she was one of the first ones I found while digging my grave via Goodreads). Since this is one of my first reviews that I'll be writing somewhat professionally I'll be fumbling around figuring out how I'll approach writing them, as I am someone who prefers consistency so there might be some differences here and there between reviews. I'll be starting with this book since it's the most recent one I finished but I'll be going back and starting from the first book henceforth. I will be avoiding major spoilers since this book hasn't been released yet, but be warned there will be some minor ones which I’ll put under a page break in case you don’t wish to be spoiled
Rating: [10/10] Hailey is known as a torturer when it comes to playing with her readers emotions, in her newsletter she even said that this book was going to be a rollercoaster and man is that a massive understatement. Instead of a rollercoaster it's more like experiencing near death then coming back from it and recovering slowly from the amount of emotional turmoil Patrick is going through. One highlight I have to point out is that up until now, the narrative has shifted between Patrick and Jono in a way that gives depth to both characters in an equal capacity. With this book center stage goes to Patrick this time with him confronting his past and coming to terms with what he needs to sacrifice in order to proceed forward to take down Ethan and the Dominion Sect. With Patrick navigating through the story emotionally (seriously this man does not get a break for 2/3s of the story) Jono also has his lose ends that need to be dealt with. With the civil war between 2 god packs fighting for control of New York reacting it climax there's a lot of tension and blood with bodies on both sides. Also the demons from London in the previous book have followed Patrick and Jono across the pond and boy is there ever a huge plot twist near the end of the story! (Really makes you wish Spencer were around to get rid of them). If anyone is a Wade stan you'll be happy while reading to see the immense growth his character has gone through since his introduction in All Souls Near & Nigh. Of course being a dragon the food and hording hasn't changed all too much but just seeing how confident (and snarky thanks to Patrick and Jono's influence) to see him grow from a misplaced teenager into a more confident young adult who isn't afraid to put himself square center in the face of adversary to protect his pack. He becomes more comfortable using his abilities now without guidance from his alphas and man he becomes such a badass when he threatens to bite someone's head off now. There is a bit of foreshadowing when the group is discussing about Sage and Marek’s wedding with Patrick lingering on the subject between him and Jono, so maybe there will be something in the next book regarding this? (Hailey please make it happen and give Patrick his vacation to Maui already!)
Recommend?: [YES] Overall another homerun with this release as always and honestly with one book left in the series scheduled to come out later this year I'm already dreading what Hailey the torturer is going to do to us readers as she brings this series to a close after almost 2 years. Seriously if you have not yet started this series from the beginning your missing out big time.
Audio: The audiobook is scheduled to be release a month after the book comes out so I'll update this review once it comes out.
