Yapping about Belos and his ending excessively while also analysing him to the best of my ability under the cut
So given how much art of him I've reblogged by now, it really shouldn't come as a surprise that Belos is my favourite character from the Owl House.
I could talk about him for HOURSS but I just want to talk about 2 of my favourite moments of him to highlight the parts of him I love the most.
Tumblr media
This moment in Hollow Mind, when he gets the key in his hand and you can see the light in his eyes. It's the only time his eyes have the distinct shine in them like every other character has all the time, and it's cause of the key he's holding. The key to the human realm is the only thing that gives him that shine cause it's the only thing he genuinely cares about. Everything he's doing is to go back home and revel in glory, which, while selfish, adds so much to his character. He's not doing this JUST for power, he became an Emperor just to tear his own creations down. I just find something extremely poetic about that.
And the second moment -
Tumblr media
THIS MOMENT. THIS MOMENT IN KING'S TIDE AJDHSJSHSJS
I'm still mad these flashbacks were never brought up in any big way cause THEY REALLY SHOULD HAVE BUT AHSKSJS I'M GETTING AHEAD OF MYSELF.
Belos reliving his worst memories was always a concept that was going to be interesting because it's an insight into what really gets into the head of our main antagonist. What does the guy who is everyone else's worst fear have to fear. And the answer is himself.
The 3 memories he sees are him approaching Caleb with the knife, the actual murder as pictured above, and the creation of the grimwalkers.
What really gets me is that his eyes are wide when he recalls the first memory, but they look smaller in the second memory (in the screenshot). Maybe it's just the angle but I always interpreted it as his expression shifting to be one of genuine sadness for this particular memory. Because the mere fact that his most personal crime is also his worst memory is such an interesting concept. How does he live with that sort of guilt and worse, keep doing those same crimes but WORSE?
All of Hollow Mind could just be here really and I wouldn't complain. It's THE episode for Belos fans that really allowed us to dig into him, and the mere fact that he's consciously scratched off Caleb from all the happy memories as if to justify his own fratricide is a level of desperate coping that I just find so very interesting ajdjhsjjs
Not to mention that his inner self is a child, which, while a pretence by him, could still say something about how in his head, he still has not grown up and is still playing pretend, still playing witch hunter with every version of Caleb he creates, still playing god to finally achieve a fantasy so very childish and so frankly basic that it makes anyone watching from the outside think "wait, that's it? That's all this is for?" AND THAT'S THE POINT
Cause none of this needed to happen. None of this has a greater value than Philip trying to chase after lost dreams. All the plans he made, all his great power and his great empire amounts to nothing because he himself plans to destroy all of it to chase that childhood dream. Just like Luz, he entered the Boiling Isles to find a home, only his home was Caleb and he was never willing to love new things in the Isles, while Luz loved so much she literally changed the lives of everyone she met by loving them. And unlike Luz, Philip never grew out of that mindset, only burying it in layers and layers of lies and half truths.
In general, his relationship with Caleb is for sure the most interesting part of his character to me. The fact that he both repeatedly murders and repeatedly creates new grimwalkers in an endless cycle and then hallucinates Caleb looking at him with disdain implies so much about his dependancy on Caleb and the deepest parts of himself that know what he's doing is wrong. The parts that have broken free from the layers and layers of cognitive dissonance and have accepted that he was wrong, without any more justifications.
And now, to 'briefly' rant about him in season 3
Thanks to Them was juicy for character exploration, but I wish we actually got to see him react to the human realm properly. It's everything he's wanted, it's the one thing that still brings light into his life but the world he returned to would absolutely hate him. He's done all this for nothing. I wanted so badly to see how he copes with his guilt then, but they were short on time so I get it.
For the Future's hallucination scene makes this even more interesting cause of the depiction of him actually seriously suffering from something like hallucinations. It was dark as hell, and it was really interesting.
And then... WaD. All in all, a great finale. The only real big problem I had with it was Belos' ending.
After so much buildup to his depth and his motivations and his guilt and all his lies slowly collapsing around him, after everything he did to so many people, he deserved a better death. I don't think he didn't deserve death, I just think it happened too quick. Where was the final cathartsis from all his victims shunning him (Luz staring was perfect don't get me wrong, but the whole Hexsquad deserved to be there). Where was the moment he would finally no longer be able to lie to himself and he would be forced to accept that he did EVERYTHING he did, made all those great sacrifices, tortured so many people, just to fail and be at his victims' mercy after accomplishing nothing?
I understand the finale was juggling many MANY characters and plotpoints, but that's not stopping me from wishing for a better ending.
I wish I had had the motivation to draw something for this like I'd hoped, but a brief description about what kind of ending I'd have wanted will have to do.
I wish Luz saw his memories in the place in between with Papa Titan. It would reinforce her arc of feeling like they come from the same place too, if she saw Caleb leaving Philip and Philip's original goal of just wanting to get his brother back. I wish Luz saw all his "sad" memories and really started to question herself.
And then I would have wanted Papa Titan to shoot that down regardless, and then explain that while Belos may have started out a victim of his circumstances as an orphaned child in a cult, the Isles gave him chances to change. Memories of Philip in the Isles seeing Caleb happy, being given chances by witches, being given so many chances to change, and rejecting them accompanying this scene would be ideal. Really hammer in that he aas responsible for his own suffering and that he has absolutely no excuse for what he did to all his victims.
And then, in the final death scene, as he claims that as humans they are better than witches one last time, I wish the ghosts of all his victims showed up to prove him wrong. Every witch and grimwalker who choose to be better than him before they fell. Every member of the Hexsquad who believed in him and his regime at one point. Every single one of them a reminder of how his lies can't even convince himself anymore.
And finally, his own brother, a fellow human, who appears before him. I imagine Caleb looking at him with pity, almost sympathy, before a quiet acceptance comes onto his face and he turns away from him. He walks towards the crowd and chooses their side, next to Evelyn. Neither Caleb nor Luz say a single word. There is nothing left to be said to him anymore. Every single person on the Isles, human or witch, has turned against him now.
If anything could break his will, I think this would be it. I imagine him phasing through his different forms, trying to find a way to justify himself in each one, gradually desolving into desparate screams, before the boiling rain melts him away like in canon (except without the stomping please).
Aaaand that's it, no more notes. Thanks so much to all the Wittebane fans in the community who have kept his fanbase fed when the show didn't meet our standards and who prompted the line of thought that led to this post.
There are so many of you all who inspired and made my fandom experience fun and created so much out of just Philip, Caleb, and Evelyn (and all your OCs of course!!) so I'm just going to shoutout the ones I remember off the top of my head -
@talisman975
@jess-the-vampire
@calebsrottingcorpse
@owlyhouse
@anona1-mous
@captainmera
@moonmeg
@azure-blaze92
@a-magpie-in-the-bi
@a-magpie-in-gravesfield
This is no particular order and I'm surely missing more so this is by no means exhaustive, but this is just a shoutout for those who kept this fandom going. Y'all are the real troopers for sure.
That's all I got, but I'm posting some old Belos art soon! Cheers all, and may the terrible awful no good goo babygirl keep inspiring us for all the great art <3

Fic - Since Beardo Philip has at least one evil bone in his body, I think it would be fun to see him and a Reader pretend he's a villain capturing a prince or princess. He lifts the Reader over his shoulder and carries them into his hideout cave like it's his evil lair. Reader plays along by helplessly kicking their legs in the air though they secretly enjoy being carried.
The Prince / Princess of the Boiling Isles (Beardo Philip x Pretend! Prince / Princess Reader)
The Boiling Isles considered you to be their most beautiful prince / princess.
Why?
Because you were responsible, always helping others when you could.
You were compassionate, even towards those who displayed cruelty.
You demonstrated complete respect for the Titan and did everything in your power to protect the environment and the people you loved.
You enjoyed the world around you and found happiness in everything you did.
Rather than dismissing someone as a bad person, you opted to help them improve when they were facing difficulties.
You followed your heart and carried out what was right.
You searched for understanding and peace in disputes and conflicts and ensured that everyone was treated fairly in the end.
You showed bravery in confronting your problems.
Your dreams were made a reality by your hard work.
You never judged a book by it's cover.
No matter what happened, you never gave up.
You took love at a slow pace and embraced your unique talents.
But most importantly, you were true to who you were.
Your inner beauty illuminated like a light thanks to all those positive traits and aspects.
...
One day, after completing your "chores" in the totally real "castle" that you lived in, you decided to take a nice walk in the woods.
After being cramped "indoors" all day, you were craving some fresh air.
Putting on your favorite leisure outfit, you headed out the "castle" doors.
...
During your small stroll, you passed by a bush and paused when you heard rustling coming from it.
You let out a small giggle in your hand, assuming it was one of your animal pals playing a game.
However, you were wrong when a man jumped out, causing you to jump and squeal in surprise.
Your eyes were curiously fixed on him, your mouth slightly agape.
What was he doing in that shrub and who was he?
The man's hair, long and brown, was tied in a messy ponytail, and he had a mustache and beard.
He also wore a blue coat as well as a sinister smile on his face.
Looking you up and down, the man began to twirl his mustache like a stereotypical villain, which "scared" you as you tried not to laugh.
"So, you're that prince / princess that I've been hearing about," He hummed softly, wasting no time to lift you over his shoulder as you squeaked.
"You're coming with me!" He declared, quickly taking off with you as he laughed his diabolical laugh.
You were now his.
"Nooo!" You cried out dramatically, "helplessly" kicking your feet.
How could this monster kidnap you?
"What's the matter, prince / princess? Not keen on coming with me?" The man asked, letting out a devilish laugh.
"No, I'm not! Let me go! Let me go, you foul fiend!"
"I'm afraid I can't do that," he insisted.
"Now, be a good little captive or I'll feed you to a Stonesleeper. I heard they have a strong craving for princes / princesses, especially cute ones such as yourself."
"Nooo! Someone help me!" You cried out again, but no one came to your aid.
Poor you.😔
When the two of you arrived at the "evil lair" (it was really just his cave), he began doing the most diabolical thing one could ever do to someone... he started covering your cheeks with loving kisses.
His facial hair caused you to giggle as it tickled your skin.
Persuading Philip to join you on this may have been challenging, but you're pleased that you managed to do it.

No one’s gonna see this, buttt-
Last year, I kept this IZ X TOH au between myself and my best friend, but I kinda wanna talk about it now since @thechaoticlittlejester wanted to revive it and add their ideas too! (They’re rlly smart and cool so follow them :3)
Anywayyy here’s what my idea last year was like
No, it doesn’t take part in the Boiling Isles, it takes place in the normal IZ universe
It’s kinda more like a sequel of invader Zim that takes place 3 years after the Florpus incident, but the characters have personality traits from the TOH characters
All the weird things from Boiling Isles happens on earth
Example: Grom is actually an alien who wanted to kill Zim (because of course it did) and went to Earth to seek revenge coincidentally during Prom in skool!
Humans are still stupid and didn’t really care much about the weird happenings and thought Grom was just some failed science experiment from chemistry class or something
ANYWAY MOVING ONTO MORE ZIMPORTANT DETAILS-
This is a really complicated thing to say buttt- some IZ characters have more than one TOH character role/story
Example: Gaz is mainly in Eda’s place, but also has the character traits and development of Willow’s (because she’s also the reliable one in the story and pretends she isn’t suffering)
And Zim is mainly in Amity’s role, but also has King’s kind of story (like- King thought he was the King of demons when he wasn’t, and Zim thought he was the best invader when he’s actually defective)
(BUT ZIM DOESNT HAVE KING’S *ROLE* BECAUSE THIS IS A ZADR STORY AND DIB IS LUZ IN THIS AU!! HE ONLY HAS KING’S *STORY*)
Like it’s not really your standard [FAVE SHOW] as [OTHER FAVE SHOW] AU! It’s just a fan made Invader Zim sequel with stories based on TOH’S stories! (And this AU is mainly about Gaz, Dib and Zim’s shenanigans)
And of course, it’s really gonna be out of character for Dib and Zim because they’re a lot nicer since they’re in Luz and Amity’s roles kdkedmdkdkdkd
Tumblr media
(This is what me from last year wrote idjejdjekroeokr it’s so cringe lol)
Now time to explain the character roles:
Dib as Luz!
I know Dib as Amity sounds like it makes more sense, but I chose Dib as Luz because they’re both excluded by everyone in skool, they have “weird” interests, and Prof Membrane would probably want to send Dib to a “real science” camp like how Camila wanted to send Luz to the “normal” camp. (Also both Luz and Dib are dorky dorks lolll)
Zim as Amity!
It’s not justtt because of the ZADR as Lumity thing, it’s also because Zim wants to be the Tallests’ “star student” or in this case, star invader. And like how Amity had that amulet that controlled her, Zim’s PAK had a program that made him loyal to the Tallests (which he would break later on). Also, Zim killed Miyuki with a flesh eating BLOB, and that reminds me of abomination goo loll
So in this AU, the Irkens use those kinds of blobs to create weapons (like how the Blight Industries use abomination goo to make abomatons)
Lastly, in this AU, Zim reads to kids. It sounds out of character but I would like to think that over the years, he’s actually great with kids because he’s been dealing with Gir lolll- (also Zim’s a dad to his minions in my heart, shushhhh)
Gaz as Eda! Even tho she takes Eda’s role, she’s still Dib’s younger sister. Anyway, she takes Eda’s role because she’s sassy and acts like she doesn’t care but does. Also, in this AU, Gaz secretly has a curse, and has an uncontrollable pig demon form.
The reason why she kept it a secret is because she knew how crazy Dib is over supernatural / paranormal creatures and is scared that he would reveal it to everyone. (But Dib accidentally kindaaa gave her away to the Swollen Eyeball and had to rescue her— like how Eda was taken away by the Emperor’s Coven and Luz had to save her)
Tak as Hunter!
Tak somehow manages to get out of her janitor job and became the Lavender Guard of the Tallests. She still hates Zim and had that “Amity vs Hunter” fight with her. She’s also still a cringefail depressed emo like Hunter-
Gir as Hooty!
Both Hooty and Gir Are craAAaAaaAzyyyy beings who might secretly be Gods.
Okay seriously though- Gir once possessed Zim’s entire base and made it move around, which is literally like the plot Hooty’s Moving Hassle where Hooty gets possessed and moves around too.
Plus I’d like to think that Gir would wanna prove himself to Zim and make some Tunnel of Love thing like how Hooty did to make ZADR canon! (Except this Tunnel of Love is more disturbing and has literal human hearts. Whose hearts were those? Nobody knows…)
————
Anywayyy this was an intro of my cringe AU from last year! Bye nonexistent readers since again, no one’s gonna read thisssss- (except for thechaoticjester since I tagged them idkekdekrkeiir)

Traitor
Amity reached for Luz’s hand. “Luz. It’s okay, no one blames you for what happened with Phillip.”
Luz swiped at her eyes. “I helped him get the Collector’s disc, it isn’t even just about the light glyph, I—I—”
“He tricked you,” Willow said softly, glancing briefly at Hunter, “He’s… good at that. He tricked the whole boiling isles, you can’t blame yourself.”
“It’s not up to you to somehow be cleverer than everyone else,” Gus agreed.
Luz sniffed, giving Amity’s hand a squeeze. “Thanks, guys.”
Hunter got up and left the room, heading up the stairs without another word.
Willow exchanged a glance with Gus, then turned towards Luz. “Luz, do you know if something is… up? With Hunter? I mean, I thought it was just all of the day of unity stuff, but…”
“It feels like he’s keeping secrets,” Gus finished, “Has he told you anything about it?”
Does it count as telling me if it was technically Belos who did all of the revealing?
Is that a secret he would have trusted me with on his own?
What’s a good way to say “Hey, yeah, don’t worry about it, he’s just in a crisis over the fact that he’s not really a witch, powerless or no, give him a week”?
“Mhmhmmmmmmnnnnnno. I mean. Gus, you’re probably the closest to him. If he’d tell anyone, it’d be you, right? Aahahahaha, okay, I’m going to go clean up my room a bit, it’s kiiiiiind of a mess. Thanks for understanding, guys.”
Luz shot out of the room, all but running up the stairs and sliding into the guest room that Gus and Hunter were sharing. She took a deep breath, shutting the door behind her. “You’re… not exactly good at hiding that something is wrong.”
He pulled the sheets up on the bed a touch aggressively, throwing the pillows into place. “It was easier with a mask.”
“It was easier when no one cared,” Luz corrected, “Hunter, they’re not stupid. They can tell something’s up with you.”
He threw his hands up. “Well, what am I supposed to do, then? Just tell them that the reason I’m upset is because I’m a—a—”
“They’ll be okay with it. I mean, they were okay with the fact that I’m kind of sort of partly responsible for us being stuck here, I’m sure they’ll be able to accept the fact that youuuuuuuoh please stop looking at me like that.”
He quit glaring, turning back to the bed. “Look, I just… I don’t want to tell them anything until I have more facts. Get it all over all at once, just rip off the bandage. No bit by bit reveals, no slow easing into it, just… one time. One time that I have to tell them.”
“And what if you never find out the whole truth?” Luz asked softly, “What will you do then? Hunter, I hate to say it, but the person who was most likely to have answers…”
“Is a puddle of goop, I know, Luz, I—I don’t know what I’ll do, I’ll figure it out, just please… keep it quiet? For me, please?”
“I’m trying, Hunter, I am. But I can’t just keep lying to them! It feels…” Luz’s hands clenched and unclenched. “…wrong. They’re my friends. You are too, or at least I think we are, and I don’t want to break your trust, but I can’t keep this up forever.”
“It’s not forever, just…”
“Until you know more. I know. Hunter, what if you DO find out more, and it just leads to more questions?”
“Then I’ll look for the answers to THOSE questions. The full story is out there, Luz, it has to stop somewhere.”
“And, what, I just keep lying and covering for you until you find it? Hunter, that’s not fair. It’s not fair to me to ask me to lie to my friends for an indefinite amount of time! I told them my secret, I didn’t ask you to keep it long, please don’t ask me to keep pretending I don’t know what’s wrong!”
“I just need more time. It’s not your secret to tell, Luz.”
Luz threw her hands in the air, frustration boiling up in her throat. “I know, Hunter, I know that, of course I know that this affects you much more than it affects me, and I’m just—just—collateral in this, but it is affecting me! I feel all gross inside, hiding things from them, it’s why I had to tell them my secret! And I get that you need time, and I get that you’re stressed over this, of course you are, but so am I!”
Luz clutched at her hair. “It feels like a betrayal not to tell them, but I know it would be betraying you to come clean! It’s chewing me up from the inside, and I can’t even tell anyone how I feel this way, because I have to keep the reason hidden. The only person I can talk to about it is you, but this feels bad, too! Because I feel like I’m pressuring you, and forcing you into something you’re not ready for, and it’ll hurt you, and I don’t want to do that! And I feel so selfish for asking you to think about my feelings over yours, because of course it hurts more for you, and like I said, I’m just collateral, I’m just… stuck in the middle of something I have no control over, and…”
Hunter bit his lip. “And you’ve already lost enough control of your life recently without adding more,” he finished, “Yeah, I… I can understand that.” He sighed, fiddling with his gloves. “Look, I… I’m not ready yet. There are a few more places here I want to check, just in case I am… human… but… well, probably any answers I could have found on the isles are destroyed by now, so… I’m just about out of leads. Just give me a little longer, Luz. I don’t want to hide from them either, I… they trust me now, and…”
Luz crossed her arms. “It feels like you’re breaking that trust?”
“Yeah. I guess I don’t like lying to my f-friends either. I just need you to give me a couple more weeks, Luz. I’ll tell them soon. I promise.”

The Owl House is over and I'm not coping (minor spoilers for finale)
One of the biggest reasons I love this show is how well the writing is. Morals and messages come through without being preachy or obvious - like other kids shows can be. I've never seen a show wherein they show the difference between "I did something wrong, but I did it for the right reasons" and "I did something wrong, but I refuse to admit it I did it, because I'm right."
As early as season two, Luz is so worried that she's caused all the events leading up to the current plot - Belos' rise to power, forced covens, death or imprisonment of wild witches. All because she wanted to help the nice human she had befriended, who immediately betrayed her.  She carries that guilt believing that if she’d never given him that light glyph, his plans would never have happened. No matter what other people tell her, she shoulders all the blame, convinced that her and Belos are one and the same. She even says as much in “Watching and Dreaming” when talking to the Titan.
Luz: Well, Belos says he's trying to save humanity. And we are saying we want to save our families. So, isn't that the same thing? Don't—Don't these feelings come from the same place?
She isn’t aware that by questioning whether she’s done the right thing – whether her goal is more noble than Belos’ – proves that she’s nothing like him. And it’s so refreshing to have a protagonist in a show make a bad decision but make it for the right reason. This idea that the hero can’t screw up, and if they do, it’s purely for selfish or stupid reasons that they must learn from.
Because the reality is that everyone has this capability. Sometimes you’ll make a decision or a choice in life with the best intentions, and it blows up in your face. Does it make you a bad person? Are you doomed to a life of failure because of it? No. Because, just like Luz, you did it for the right reason and you can work to fix your mistakes. And as she learns from the Titan, she’s far from the first person to make that mistake.
Compare her to Belos. Belos shrouds everything he does in the guise of “protecting humanity.”  He came to the Boiling Isles to save his human brother. He wanted to kill Evelyn because she corrupted said brother. He killed his brother to save him. He offered to take Luz with him through his portal to save her. He even uses this mentality while pretending to be the benevolent leader of the Isle. He created covens to protect the people of the Boiling Isles. He persecuted wild witches to ensure they wouldn’t harm the people. I could go on. The point is, for him, he is always in the right - even with actions that directly go against his beliefs. I could understand killing witches wouldn’t conflict with puritan beliefs, but killing your own brother? Practicing magic? Talking to/making a deal with a false god (the Collector)?
Nothing is ever on him – I killed Caleb because he was corrupted, I mutilated myself in order to destroy the witches from the inside, I tricked the Collector in order to accomplish my magic genocide. It doesn’t matter how evil or conflicting the action is, Belos does it because in the end he believes he’s in the right. Nothing demonstrates this more than his actions in season 3. Even while in the human realm – the goal we’ve been led to believe is his end goal – he still feels the need to go back and complete the genocide. Because if he doesn’t, then he was wrong about the witches. He was wrong about everything. The man is a pile of corruption barely hanging on to life, only able to actively control anything so long as he has a host, and he still is convinced that it’s the witches’ fault he's like this. He still has this need to be right.
Titan: You assume Belos's goal comes from a genuine place. But that man doesn't care about about anything but his need to be the hero in his own delusion
And to be honest, his actions mimic those of actual bigots and abusers. The unending need to be right, to be the victor. Using a scapegoat – I’m doing this for humanity/the children/families/government – to justify violence and hatred. Refusing to back down; even when presented with evidence that they're wrong. And above all, the reveal that if you peel back their “justification” all you’d actually find is a hateful person lashing out because they can’t control the narrative and people are doing things they personally don’t approve of.
Keeping in mind, these two perspectives and the thematic importance in both aren’t overtly shown. It’s subtle, but shown just enough to get the message. In short, the writers of Owl House are thematic geniuses and I’m never going to emotionally recover from this show.
(Also screw Disney because this could’ve been explored so much deeper if we’d had more time).

I just saw “Watching and Dreaming”, what do you think?! It’s awesome, right? And how does it affect your plans for the Kryptonverse’s Owl House content?
What? No, I hated it...
...okay, no, can't even pretend hahahaha. I loved it!!! Maybe a nitpick here and there, but I think that was about as perfect an ending as I could've hoped for, especially given the circumstances of S3. I think The Owl House is just...my favorite animated show of all time, and since I don't watch much live action stuff, it might as well be my #1 overall. Maybe it's the recency bias, but between the super relatable protagonist, the cool magic system, the amazing humor, the found family aspect, the horrible villain, and so on, I just couldn't ask for a show better tailored for my enjoyment. Even if I later decide it isn't #1 for some reason, I can't imagine it falling off the big podium in my mind with the AtlAs and FMABs of the animation world.
As for the Kryptonverse, let's talk under a read more for obvious spoilery reasons:
I'm still in the process of accounting on the damages (same as the Isles! :P), but surprisingly, I don't think I have to change much about what's already written. I bet on a happy ending and I thankfully got that - I just have to tweak a bit of She Stole my Heart's epilogue to better reflect the actual events.
As for changes, I do have a couple, and they're related to the nitpicks I mentioned above. Maybe a bit of a hot take, but I don't really jive with the choice to have the glyph magic stop working - I get the "closing a chapter" angle, and of course it's directly because the Titan is now truly gone, but it feels a bit superfluous to me, when all it really accomplishes is keeping Luz from using glyph magic for a few years. I'm also still not super clear on what magic she can do, since she's still just human, but she does have Stringbean now - is it really just big magic blasts like in For the Future? Or can she cast regular witch magic fuelled by Stringbean's power by using the staff to make the spell circles? If so, why couldn't Eda and Lilith do that, y'know? I feel like this is absolutely something they could've made clearer if they'd have a full-length S3, but alas.
I'm also not super keen on the idea of the Collector setting off for the stars - again, I do understand the need to give everyone some space, and that the Collector has some growing up to do, but I'm not sure how he's meant to accomplish that on his own, or worse, surrounded by his siblings. It's obvious that he doesn't go away for too long, considering the portal he made, so to me that also feels like I can change it without much fuss.
Also, and this is entirely selfish, but I want to leave the door open for Luz to take on that Titan-powered form again. Not just because I can do some gnarly stuff with it down the line, but it's just too cool to lose for good.
So, here's what we're gonna do: I'm going to take these "ingredients" and come up with a way to keep the Titan's glyph magic as is (with the promise that King will bring his own to the table), I'm gonna keep the Collector around because they need parental figures and there's no shortage of those in the Boiling Isles, and I'll figure out a justification for why and how Luz could potentially power-up again that hopefully doesn't feel like an asspull, lol.
I'm also just, generally going to set some strict rules on how the various types of magic in the BI work and interact with each other, so we can avoid any confusion (and also because I'm a nerd about that sort of thing. And just, y'know, in general)
I do want to apologize in advance a bit if it seems like I'm disregarding canon a bit much, especially since I generally try to stick somewhat close to it, but you have to remember that, while this is an ending for canon Luz, Kverse Luz's journey is really just beginning; lest you think that her relatively short adventure with the Gravity Falls crew was indicative of her role in the Kryptonverse, I intend to have her be a mainstay of the magical side of the series, and I very much want her to be as badass as possible. So, I hope you'll forgive a bit AU-ness :P

The Owl House AU/Amphibia idea: What would happen if a witch Luz who was born on the boiling isles ends up being teleported to Amphibia, what do you think Anne, Marcy and Sasha's reaction would be?
So that is a lot of premise switching. It would require a lot of development to establish what Luz is like in a world where she was born in the boiling isles.
That all said I think a funny running joke would be that Luz is under the impression that all humans hate witches (probably cause of an impassioned lecture from Gus about the witch hunts) and consistently needs to try and using her magic to help everyone with surviving Amphibia. There would probably be a scene where Luz has to openly use magic to save Anne or Marcy and is super nervous of their reaction but it goes fine
As far as rections
Anne&Luz: Pretty chill, probably quick to befriend Luz if she ends up in Wartwood. They definitely have a dynamic until the witch reveal where Anne is like 'Man I sure o miss [mundane earth thing]' and Luz either has to pretend to know what it is, or relates to it in a weird Boiling Isles context
Anne: You know what's weird, I actually really miss normal stuff like - apples. Back home, couldn't care less about em, now I really am just craving them
Luz: Oh totally, I could really go for a nice glass of blood right about now.
Anne: ?!?!?
Marcy&Luz: Get along like a house on fire. Before the reveal that Luz is a witch, the two bond over the Good Witch Azura and just nerd out. After the reveal, Marcy is absolutely fascinated by Boiling Isles Magic and wants to try and learn to use it.
Sasha&Luz: Ambivalent I think mostly. I think I could see them bonding if Luz ends up captured with the toads, the two of them working together to escape. Also might be fun if they could bond over being Bi at some point.
No idea what to do with the overarching plot, but those are my thoughts

Kinktober 2023 Day 4 Prostitution
The Owl House-Lumity plus Luz/Lilith, Luz/Hunter/Gus, Luz/OCs, Luz/Amity/Boscha
Amity needs funds for an expedition, so Luz decides to whore herself to the Boiling Isles
written for @kinktober2023
requested by anon
This story is rated E for explicit. It is for mature audiences only. All characters are over 18. NSFW under the cut.
Amity could tell they lost when Lilith walked out of the museum. Lilith shook her head, confirming Amity’s worst fears. The older witch put her hand on Amity’s shoulder as she said, "I'm so sorry sweetheart, but the board finds the whole expedition too expensive to fund. Why, they even ignored my suggestion, even though I'm the only one to successfully travel back in time! Those ingrates even-"
"Ms. Lilith!" Amity said before Lilith could go on a tangent. "It's fine. I'll think of something else."
Amity had developed a theory about other islands besides the Boiling Isles. Maybe from other titans or maybe landmass made out of rock, like Earth! But traveling that far out on the Boiling Sea would require a large crew and supplies enough to feed said crew. Which required snails. Her father didn't have as much as he used, using his talents to help people rather than charge them. And her mother… well was her mother. She had hoped the museum would provide funds, but that was now a dead end.
"That sucks!" Luz said as soon as Amity finished telling her.
"I know. Guess we're not ready to know the full extent of the demon realm," Amity sighed.
"Like he'll we're not!" Luz shouted. "If they won't give us the money, we'll have to make it ourselves!"
Amity beamed. That was the Luz Noceda she fell in love with. "Any ideas how?"
Luz blushed. "Actually, I do. I was thinking maybe I could be a hooker."
"Luz that is a wonderful idea!" Amity shouted.
"Really, you don't think I'm a pervert?"
"Oh you are definitely a pervert, but so am I. Besides I know sometimes you crave something that I lack. So yeah, I have no problems with it. In fact I think I can help. I could be your pimp, and step in when things get rough.” As she said that she made a giant fist with her abomination goo.
Luz kissed her on the cheek. “Amity, you're amazing!”
So they made plans and in about a week, Luz made her debut as a prostitute. Luz wanted a classic look, purple tube top, leather jacket, tight black mini shirt with fishnet stockings and pumps. Her face was slathered with red lipstick and blue eyeshadow. At midnight, she stood on a street corner, pretending to smoke a candy cigarette. She felt a tap of her shoulder.
"Hey baby, looking for a good- LILITH!"
"Hey Luz. Look, I feel bad about Amity’s expedition not getting funded, so I'm here to help, ah, donate what little I can."
Luz cocked her head with a sly grin. "Aunt Lilith, do you want to pay to have sex with me?"
Lilith was red faced. "I just, ah. How many snails is it to get eaten out?"
Luz took her to a hotel where the two undressed. After some brief heavy petting, the Luz went down to business. Lilith sat on the edge of the bed, her legs spread out. Her pink slit shined against her pale skin. A trim bush of orange and grey sat above it. Taking a deep breath, Luz ran her tongue over her aunt's wet sex. Lilith moaned as Luz’s tongue explored her lower area; she grabbed a bit of her hair.
"Hmmm, you taste good Lilith."
"Call-Call me Aunt Lilith." She pressed Luz’s face against her crotch. "No wait, call me Cool Aunt Lilith."
"Hmmm, Cool Aunt Lilith. Cool Aunt Lilith." Luz moaned between slurps.
Lilith's hips started to buck into Luz’s face. The older witch came. "Oh, Luz, Luz, Luz!"
In the end, Luz’s face and Lilith's crotch were a mess of smeared make-up, spit, and slick.
"Thank you Luz, that was exhilarating," Lilith said awkwardly handing Luz the money.
"Thank you, Cool Aunt Lilith." Luz spanked her bare ass as she made her way to her clothes.
Lilith wasn't the only one who came. Amity stood in the closet, her tights around her ankles, her wetness dripping down her thighs as she came down from her own orgasm.
Luz’s next customer was male basilisk who wanted simple vaginal sex.
"Alright," Luz told him. "But it's double if you want it raw.” Vee had taught Luz a lot about basilisk anatomy. She rubbed the front of his crotch area until his dick started to poke through. It was long, pink, and slimy. Luz stroked him until she was sure he was fully hard.
Luz laid back on the bed while the snake slithered on top of her. His penis hit her lips. It was difficult to push in but he made it through. Luz held on to him as he got deeper and deeper.
The two got in a comfortable enough position that the basilisk could thrust in earnest. Now that the initial penetration was done, it felt quite nice actually. As the snake humped her, his tail wrapped around her leg.
Luz came first, her walls squeezing his cock. Soon she felt a warm fire in her. The basilisk came, filling her up with his seed. But Luz felt a second sensation. Something big and hard was stretching out her entrance. The basilisk had knotted her!
Luz struggled to pull him out of her. After realizing he was stuck in there, she sighed. "Every minute in there is an extra 50 snails."
"Hss fair ssss."
Luz found herself back on the street, stretching out her legs. Ugggh, she was still sore. She was greeted by a pair of familiar faces. "Hunter! Gus! It's great to see you. I can't really talk right now, I'm working."
"That’s, huh, actually what we wanted to talk to you about."
"Oooooh, are you two looking to party?" Luz raised an eyebrow while she smirked at her friends.
"Nothing fancy," Gus said.
"Maybe just a couple of blowjobs?" Hunter asked.
Amity directed the group to an old empty bathroom. She stood as a lookout while the guys took off their pants. Luz was delighted to see that they were already half hard.
Grabbing a dick in each hand, she slowly stroked them. She started sucking off Hunter, his moans echoing throughout the toilet. After a few seconds, she turned her attention to Gus. Both of them were well endowed; but Gus was longer was Hunter's was girthier. Each had hair but Gus had more.
After a bit, they started helping Luz, thrusting into her mouth and smack her face with their balls while she jerked the other off.
Hunter came first, holding her head in place while he jizzed all over her face. Gus wasn't too far behind, added his cum to Hunter's. After passing high faces all around, the guys left while Luz washed her face in the sink.
Her next customer was the same type of demon as Warden Wrath. He didn’t have lips per sa, so Luz just sorta licked his teeth and sucked on his tongue.
But what the demon really wanted to do was anal. So after the beast lubed Luz up, he shoved his massive cock up her ass. And this thing was thick. Even after his massive fingers fingered her anus, she still had trouble taking him. But Luz was a professional, so she took it like a witch. Bent over with the demon behind her, she gritted her teeth and clung to the bed sheets, but by Titan she took him.
With tears in her eyes, she felt the demon begin to thrust in earnest. Thankfully he didn't last long and busted a nut in her ass. When he pulled out her butthole was left a huge gaping mess.
After a brief visit to a healer, she and Amity were laughing about on the street corner when a familiar voice interrupted them.
"Well, the rumors are true. Amity’s pet human is a whore."
"What do you want, Boscha?"
The tricyclops smirked. "Your girlfriend. I'll pay for her to eat out my asshole. And you get to watch." She tossed a bag full of snails at the two.
Amity caught the bag. She and Luz looked at each and smirked. "Deal."
Returning to the hotel room, the three wasted no time. Luz and Boscha undressed and took the bed. Amity sat in a chair facing them. Skipping any warm ups Boscha bet over and pulled her cheeks apart. "Bon appétit human."
Luz went right in, her tongue lapping at Boscha's dirty hole. Boscha must have been really excited with how wet she already was, Luz thought. She ran her finger up and down the witch's slit. Luz stuck two fingers into Boscha's snatch.
"How does it feel, Amity? Seeing what your girlfriend would do for some coins."
"Well gee Boscha, she's just providing a service. A needed one. After all, you're the one who needed to pay someone to get laid."
Boscha flushed at that. "You dare- aaagghhh!" Whatever retort she had died on her lips. Luz's tongue had pushed deeper into Boscha's ass.
"Yeah, she's very good with her tongue. I know," Amity said. The witch stood up, pulling down her pants. She claimed into the bed and wrapped her legs around Boscha's head. Amity’s mound was completely smooth Boscha noticed as it smooshed against her face. "Eat it," Amity commanded.
Feeling really turned on, Boscha obeyed. Her tongue explored her old friend's folds while Luz sucked her asshole. The human really started working on her clit. Meanwhile Amity was really grinding on Boscha's face, the grugby player's tongue swirling around Amity’s clit.
It was Boscha who came first; her sex spasming and her moans echoing into Amity’s pussy. She collapsed onto the bed, dizzy and light-headed. Amity and Luz lunged at each; turned on by each other's dominance of their old high school bully. As the two fucked, they shook the bed, rocking Boscha to sleep.

Something that I really want to write into the Reincarnation AU is more manifestations of Luz’s buried resentment and jealousy in regards to “not being the main character”. Specifically, I want to explore the way she’d misremember things to make it seem like Hunter got most of the credit for something she did or him ‘inserting’ himself into situations, or the way she’d get intrusive thoughts about preventing her brother from going to school that day or pushing him through the portal to the Human Realm.
But the problem with that is that it would probably seem super out of character, or even villainizing Luz, especially if I write Luz as an unreliable narrator in the same way I wrote Philip in Don’t Be Afraid. Which is something I get! Luz isn’t one to resent others! When things go wrog, it’s more likely for her to internalize something and turn the blame to herself, especially when it involves someone she cares about.
More ramblings under the cut because wow this got long.
But also. Luz’s chosen one/witch fantasy is very important to her. It is her coping mechanism. It is her way of feeling important and special in a good way after probably spending most of her life being bullied and put down for being ‘weird’. And then she stumbles into the magical fantasy realm of her dreams (except not as PG-13 as she thought). Luz gets maybe ten or so minutes of marveling at the Boiling Isles, ten minutes of wondering if this was real or if she really just became an isekai protagonist, ten minutes of fantasizing about her possible journey through this land.
And then she looks to her side and sees her brother with the red eyes and tragic backstory staring at the Boiling Isles with recognition in his eyes. Then she sees Eda’s pointy ears, something that keeps showing up in her brother's vivid dreams.
This is not her world. This is Hunter’s.
And this is literally in the first episode of her character development! She wasn’t supposed to realize that she’s not and shouldn’t be a chosen one yet!! Especially since in this case, she wouldn’t learn it because of her reckless actions, but because she would believe that someone else got to it first. And that will ripple out, even if she still runs into Adegast and gets the “Chosen One = Bullcrap” speech from Eda.
This isn’t even getting into Luz already maybe having buried resentment for Hunter before their arrival at the Boiling Isles! Because Hunter, despite having similar daydreaming problems that Luz has, is a lot more “””””low maintenance””””” than Luz ever was. He was “””””smarter””””” too, and unlike Luz, he “””learned””” to be normal after he was scolded enough times. You cannot tell me that their teachers and peers did not compare the two of them multiple times, and that Luz didn’t internalize everything they said each time.
And Luz is going to feel so guilty about it when she catches herself having those jealousy-fueled thoughts or accidentally acting on it. She is going to feel so bad about it and overcompensate (possibly in the wrong ways), much to Hunter’s confusion. And then she’s going to repress that resentment and pretend it doesn’t exist and/or invalidate her feelings of jealousy and resentment and solve nothing at all!!! Especially since she’s still super early into her character development.

Raine Whispers as an age regressor headcanons!
Tumblr media
-they generally age regress to an older kid, around 6-10
-they age regress involuntarily. they tend to only half-regress unless coaxed by their caregivers, which they're trying to work on.
-the main thing that triggers their regression is stress, so having a nice regression-session after a busy week is something they try to enjoy
-they found out about regression from Darius when they were covenheads. He mentioned it off-hand and then Raine went on an internet search rabbithole that night
-Eda & Lilith are their main caregivers. Eda is just called Eda, but Lilith is "Auntie Lulu"
-they are a bit of a chatterbox when fully regressed. it surprises everyone, but they're happy to explain that Kiddo Brain(tm) makes them less afraid!
-they love juice. give them all the juice.
-they especially like juice boxes, but if they can't have those they have a specific cup they like.
-the cup is decorated with little clouds. (Eda thinks it's the cutest thing ever)
-they have a few plushies for naptime
-a bat stuffie with crinkle wings is their favourite
-they love music still, of course!
-any kind of singing or dancing game is their favourite
-Raine needs a mixture of fun and study in order to stay happily regressed.
-Auntie Lulu loves to make kid-friendly study sessions, and she draws with them
-they love to learn about history and architecture from Auntie Lulu, even when she occasionally delves off into Big Words(tm) that they don't understand
-Eda helps them pull pranks, and plays pretend with them
-their favourite game is "Guards and Wild Witches" which is just the Boiling Isles version of Cops and Robbers
-their favourite way to end a regression-session is with some snacks and a nap

The Owl House, Season 2, Episode 18, "Labyrinth Runners," First Impressions!
Gus, m’boy, I underestimated you.
So it’s been no secret that Willow and Gus have really gotten the short end of the stick this season. They formed a vital part of season 1, and they still are more than welcome, but let’s face it: once Amity started crushing and Hunter got introduced, we had a new main trio to focus on. Willow and Gus are fine, don’t get me wrong, but when stacked up against two redeemed rivals, one of which became a sapphic love interest and the other exuding both Zuko energy and sibling vibes, they had no chance. They’re the school friends now. They’ll pop in when they can, but it was clear that they were no longer a priority.
Even their solo outings this season really hammered this home. Gus’s little adventure was…fine. It was fun, enjoyed that illusion stuff and all, but the B-plot had that Lumity kiss. My boy had no chance.
And I still hold that Willow’s episode was the weakest one this season, sorry.
But here we have a second Gus episode, one that has a strong Hunter focus and that sees the long-awaited return of Amity, and is the first episode to not feature Luz, Eda, or King at all…
And it’s one of the best episodes yet.
Yeah, this kicked all sorts of ass. And it did it while still keeping Gus as the focus! Yes, Hunter was kind of the deuteragonist, but it still was very much a Gus episode, exploring his own inner insecurities and issues.
Now, the easy route would be to have him not be strong and feel bad about that, but as it turns out, he has a different problem, in that he is actually very skilled with illusion magic and always has been, but because of that people have made a habit of using him, of pretending to be his friend just to get ahead, which has given him real trust issues that he masks with his showman nature. Honestly, for a long time Willow’s been his only real friend, who was also a talented witch but was underperforming by being forced into a track that she wasn’t suited for. But even though Gus has since made real friends and is doing very well, all that hurt still gnaws at him. He's scared of being tricked, so when his own coven head pulled that trick, that was his trigger.
Actually, can we talk about that little shit for a moment? Because Adrian was a lot of fun. I love how every coven head so far is just a different brand of dramatic. Here we have an evil primadonna director! Yeah, I like this guy, and want to see more of him.
Speaking of bad guys, I also appreciate the effort made to make Belos’s flunkies distinct from one another. Normally they’re sort of copy/paste with those uniforms and masks, but here you can see height and body differences, different coven magic at work, and little things like protruding tails and stuff like that. Also, you go, Severine! You don’t have to take that bullshit!
But anyway, given how much I like weird, cerebral stuff, Gus projecting his inner insecurities into a labyrinth that covers the whole school was right up my alley. And his final breakdown was the right kind of spicy drama.
I have to say though, I didn’t see the duo of Hunter and Gus coming. It did fit though, as they both need guy friends in their lives. Poor Hunter is just going through it. It says something that the school was the only place he could think of to run to, as it’s literally the only place in the Boiling Isles he has any kind of positive connection to. Good thing too, because Gus was the right kind of supportive friend he needed, someone who would genuinely try to reach out to him just out of empathy. He still really needs therapy though. I’m glad that he has an actual support system now that the whole school’s adopted him. And hey, give it up for Bump as principal of the year!
Also, can I just say how funny it was that after having him aggressively shipped with both of the twins, we finally get an interaction between them and him, and it’s just them insulting him and asking if he’s ever sneezed with his helmet on. Bless.
Plus, dude’s known Willow for like two weeks, but he still knew the fake when he saw it. Why? Because Willow could easily kick his ass, and they both know it! So of course she wouldn’t be afraid of him!
If I have one complaint, it’s that I didn’t care for how Willow and Amity’s little thing resolved. At first I was excited. Like, okay, they’re finally addressing the tension lingering between the two! And Amity’s still unknowingly being condescending toward Willow! Good stuff! But to have it just be that Amity is afraid of losing Willow again and is thus overprotective is just kind of…eh. I would’ve preferred her to wrestle with realizing that she still unconsciously looks down on Willow after having bullied her for so long. Like, okay, they’re friends again, and Amity is trying hard to be a better person, but she still has her deeply ingrained prejudices to deal with. I just feel that would’ve made for a better resolution.
That aside, this was still a killer episode. And now Hexside knows the truth about the Day of Unity, and from the sound of things, the Owl House denizens are on the run.
Two episodes to go. LET’S FUCKING GOOOO!!!!!!!

So, I think it’s pretty clear that the Luz and Hunter “parallels” to Wittebros were enforced by biphobes who felt intimidated by Hunter’s chemistry with Luz and now it has unfortunately become the general consensus of the fandom.
But, pretending for a moment that these parallels weren’t just pulled out of someone’s ass to make Luz and Hunter seem like siblings, what in the world have Luz and Hunter done to connect them specifically to dynamic of Philip and Caleb?
Like, on their own, l’ll admit that Luz and Hunter do have some parallels to Philip and Caleb. I’ve mentioned before but Luz and Philip both thought of themselves as a sort of “Chosen One” who was brought to the Boiling Isles for a reason and this stems from a deep seeded need for acceptance in both of them. And Hunter is paralleled to Caleb for…obvious reasons.
But those are parallels to them on their own, it says nothing about their dynamic and how the story plays out around them.
Think for a minute, we don’t know a whole lot of concrete details regarding the story of Philip and Caleb, but from what we can assume was their dynamic in regards to the plot(as of “Thanks to Them”):
• Two brothers, with no one else in the world, move into a new town. In order to fit in they adopt the town’s practices and become indoctrinated into their beliefs, including their hatred of witches.
• One brother, Caleb, meets a real witch, Evelyn, and falls in love with her. He then chooses to leave everything he’s known behind, including his brother.
• Philip thinks his brothers been kidnapped and chooses to go after him to save him from the witch.
• When Philip learns that Caleb wasn’t tricked or kidnapped and instead chose to leave home of his own accord, he decides to kill Caleb and then find a way to kill all the witches who “corrupted” his brother.
In short, we have two people, siblings, who started off close and were brought up with the same, biased, beliefs. Then one siblings decides to break away from this regime and the other lashes out at them for it, ruining their relationship.
Now let’s look at Luz and Hunter’s dynamic in the story:
• Two people, not related and who haven’t even met before, antagonize each other because they both exist on opposite sides of an ongoing conflict; Luz being a Wild Witch and Hunter being the leader of the Emperor’s Coven who hunt down Wild Witches.
• By utter chance, the two end up sharing more about each other and learn that they actually have a few things in common, such as their interest in Wild Magic. This experience shows them that despite being on opposing sides they actually get along pretty well.
• Later, Hunter learns that the beliefs he’s been taught all his life are harmful and when he objects to them, his only remaining family member, Philip, lashes out.
• With Luz’s help, Hunter escapes to the side of the people he’s been taught to hate and rebels against Philip and becomes closer to the one who helped him escape.
It’s a classic enemies-to-friends(-to-lovers) dynamic and, more importantly, it doesn’t resemble the Wittebro dynamic at all.
Caleb and Philip started off close, Hunter and Luz were enemies at the start.
Caleb and Philip had no one else in the world by each other, Hunter only had Belos and Luz had many friends.
Caleb rejected the ideas he was taught as a child and Philip punished him for it, Hunter rejected the ideas he was taught and Luz was happy about it.
There was no major negative progression in their relationship, which is what the Brother’s Wittebane dynamic is defined by. Luz never tried to persecute Hunter for “betraying” her and Hunter never “left” her, it doesn’t make sense to slot these two into the Brother’s Wittebane dynamic because they were never designed to fit it in the first place.
In fact, you wanna know the relationship dynamic that actually parallels these two in this show?
It’s them, that’s it.
They both grew up together under the same beliefs and were very close since childhood, and when one of them tried to leave that environment that instilled those beliefs, they were “punished” by the other.
They aren’t perfect 1:1 parallels, but the similarities between the Brothers Wittebane and the Clawthorne Sisters are a hell of a lot more justified than the ones forcibly applied to Luz and Hunter.

Where we last left off, Luz and her Cool Aunt Lilith, the Bad Girl Historian had just traveled back in time to the Deadwardian Era of the Boiling Isles, a time during the Savage Ages. They are in search of any clues on how to perfect the portal door that Luz needs to get home to the Human Realm.
Meanwhile, I had a thought cross my mind that I’m honestly a little embarrassed took me so long to think of.
So Luz & Lulu have traveled back in time. Actually, physically traveled back in time. Not just viewing another era through a magic pool, they are really there in history. The mission is to figure out how to build a functioning portal door. The way to do that is to find Philip Wittebane.
As I may have mentioned once or twice before, I have a bit of a sneaking suspicion that Philip Wittebane is Emperor Belos.
And depending on what kind of time travel rules this series follows, all of this has already happened, Luz & Lulu were always a part of history.
In that context, Belos’ words about looking forward to meeting Luz could take on a slightly different meaning…
But I’ll guess we’ll see. Let’s get back into it.
Tumblr media
I-is… is that him? Is this it? Has the time come to meet Philip Wittebane, the man we have heard so much about yet know so little about? Is it finally time to meet the man who… has a different hair color than Belos….huh.
Tumblr media
The creators are trying to be clever. The different hair color and hiding parts of his face under a beard and mustache to make it harder to compare the shape of his face with the images we have of Belos and the Wittebane brothers. I still did, and I can still see the resemblance. For one thing, he has the same light blue eyes as Belos. There’s also the little strand of hair hanging in front of his face that we could see on his statue, on Hunter (and to lesser extent Philip’s brother) as well as on Belos himself.
His voice also sounds kinda different, but I can hear shades of Belos in it.
Anyways, Philip is being troubled by two large ogre-looking fellows as he owes them money. The implication is that he’s hired them as muscle to aid him on his quest. We know he’s had at least six different companions follow him on his journeys, some of which died. With that in mind, I’d say these gentlemen are more or less justified in demanding their pay upfront.
Tumblr media
And so Philip Wittebane meets The Good Witch Luz, as she heroically swoops in to save his precious journal from being destroyed.
Hey there Lilith, you wanna help?
(hol up… the figures that accompanied Philip to The Collector… one was as tall as him and the other shorter… could it be…?)
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, or, uh… in the present, Eda is hiding from her parents. Things really haven’t changed much since you were a teen, eh?
So as I was saying before, she doesn’t want to see her dad because she still feels guilty over the Owlbeast incident all those years ago, the one that (maybe) ended up costing him an eye. And yeah, that would be a very traumatic experience, I don’t blame Eda for feeling guilty. But at the same time… her dad wants to see her again and there is very little to suggest he has any resentment towards her. It was an accident, she wasn’t in control of herself. Taking that first step might he scary, but it could also be a step towards healing.
Or she could go with whatever idea King’s joke about Lilith gave her, that works too. What’re you gonna do, pretend to be Lilith?
Tumblr media
I compared the leftmost silhouette with the statues in Gravesfield, and it kinda looks like Philip’s brother. The more hooked nose in particular, as well as that single strand of hair that looks a lot like Hunter’s.
So Philip already went to Eclipse Lake, and if that is him and his brother in the corner, then his brother went with him. And didn’t return. Except he must’ve returned, because Hunter exists in the future. So… ???
Furthermore, the ogres mention their own brother, Blue Fang… and that something happened to both him and his palisman. The implication being that Blue Fang died while journeying with Philip, probably during the Eclipse Lake escapade. As for his palisman… I know a certain someone in a few hundred years who has an appetite for palisman juice.
(also, Philip’s leg is hurt. that might be important later)

Between king and the detention trio, everything Luz says to other people keeps coming back around to bite her when she least needs it this episode. Thankfully, she’s able to turn it around in the end with her own self-criticism being used to convince Bump to give everyone a chance at seeing if mixing magic can work, if you stick with it despite the hiccups.

1. Good point! One thing Luz definitely did struggle with in this episode was choosing her words carefully, and things she'd previously said in a moment of carelessness coming up at the worst possible moments. I got the impression that her arc this time around was more or less about being true to herself, and in this case, that came with figuring out how to communicate her thoughts clearly to others.
2. That's true... basic human decency isn't exactly a common thing around the Boiling Isles, as far as we've seen. There are exceptions, of course, since Willow and Gus definitely do try to look out for their friends and the people around them respectively, but most people just don't seem to do stuff like that.
3. Oooh, I didn't make that connection before!
I feel this also serves as a great point in favour of mixing magic. I imagine a lot of people in a track like beast-keeping could really use the ability to heal, both for themselves and for their pets. Just look at how Viney was able to heal Puddles's injury after the fight - if she couldn't do that herself, she'd have to wait until she could find someone else to do it, and in a theoretical scenario where a witch's pet was injured much more severely, the witch not being able to care for their pet properly on their own could have some serious consequences.
4. I'll admit it's sometimes a bit difficult for me to tell dog traits and cat traits apart, and so I'm not always sure which one certain characters are supposed to resemble (for example, King).
But, in this case... I have to ask. Do cats bark???
5. Hmm. That's possible! The implication that people in the Boiling Isles all speak English but don't know any other human languages does seem a bit strange, but it could very well be one of those things that we're not meant to think too hard about.
I wouldn't think that Jerbo would have to worry too much about being ostracised for having an interest in a human language, though? Seeing as there's an official club for appreciation of human-related things in the school already, it doesn't seem like something that would generally be considered weird, per se.
6. That's fair! I think misunderstandings are, by their very nature, a little bit contrived, since they generally require certain levels of miscommunication that shouldn't be that hard to avoid. In this case, though, I felt like this particular misunderstanding wasn't too bad, since it naturally arose from Luz and the troublemaker trio's expectations of others.
Luz expected to mess up and have people think poorly of her, and she definitely has experience with people not listening to her when she's tried to explain herself in the past. She's very much used to making a bad first impression on others. Meanwhile, the troublemakers expected people to look down on them, and from the way they don't listen to Luz at all once they've decided she's not to be trusted, I would guess that they've probably also had experience with people pretending to like them, only to say bad things about them behind their backs.
Plus, I'll admit that I thought it was very interesting that the misunderstanding was built on the trio overhearing something that Luz actually said almost word for word herself, rather than mishearing something or having it be, like... something Luz was saying about the potions track or something else that was taken completely out of context.
It's... kind of hard to put what I'm thinking into words, but I think misunderstandings tend to go the route of taking something a character's said previously completely out of context, like the classic one where a character hears part of what another character's saying and it sounds really bad, but then later they find out about the rest of what they said, which gives their words a completely different meaning. However, in this case, it was Luz's very own words coming back to bite her, fair and square.
While Luz clearly didn't mean what she was saying in the way the trio took it, she also didn't really seem to get them at first. She was legitimately surprised to learn that they were in the same position she was, and her line about them being able to get into so much trouble in the shortcut room gave off the impression that she thought they were just rowdy kids (or even pranksters like Eda), which would mean that she was sort of separate from them. It felt like that bit back in Episode 1, where she told the Conformatorium prisoners she wasn't a criminal, only to find out that they hadn't done anything wrong either.
She did come to understand the trio once she learned their stories, but I don't think she truly understood them at first; she was just being nice. The thing was, she failed to communicate any of that. To some extent it did feel as though she didn't really try, and maybe she didn't really think there was a point to trying. It's interesting that she never really explained herself later, either - she encouraged the trio to fight the basilisk, and later she stood up for them, but she never actually got around to telling them why she said what she said. In a sense, I suppose her actions spoke louder than her words, so it wasn't much of a problem at that point, but still!
7. That could very well be the case!

My toh headcanons for fun:
Luz has curly hair which she straightens. When her hair is wet, it gets curly again. Literally just a curly mop. She straightens it because it’s easier for her to manage, and because she doesn’t know how to properly take care of her curly hair.
Hunter is aspec and on the autistic spectrum
Gus is also on the autistic spectrum (although, I’m not really sure that’s a thing that can/would be diagnosed on the boiling isles?)
Amity wanted a younger sibling when she was younger, but is also glad she doesn’t have one because Odalia is an awful parent and wouldn’t wish Odalia as a parent upon anyone
Willow is aroace(spec)
Willow names her plants and makes her friends come to the funeral when a plant dies
Luz prefers to use the bubblegum flavored toothpaste rather than mint, if she even remembers to brush her teeth at all
Amity does the opposite and was appalled when she found out Luz forgets to brush her teeth a lot
Luz is getting better at remembering to brush her teeth regularly since dating Amity though, both because Amity reminds her and because she wants to have nice breath in case Amity kisses her or she kisses Amity
Luz also definitely has adhd, I don’t think that’s even questioned at this point
Either that or she’s just neurodivergent in some way
Hunter unironically likes country music
Luz makes fun of him for that, but has been caught on several occasions listening to country music herself
Hunter makes Gus listen to his 100 bird facts™️ because he knows Gus likes the human realm and figures he would enjoy listening
Gus does enjoy listening, even if he doesn’t like birds all that much
Gus is afraid of birds, apparently, especially chickens and seagulls
I say apparently because he didn’t know he was afraid until he ran into some on a couple different occasions when in the human realm
The birds chased him around like the bastards they are while Gus screamed bloody murder
So, yk, that was only slightly a traumatic experience for poor Gus
Vee is girlflux, questioning her sexuality, and uses she/ze pronouns
Whereas Luz is genderqueer and uses any pronouns with no preference
And Amity is transfeminine and uses only she/her
The rest of the gang hasn’t thought about it much, they just identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. Mostly, anyway. If they ever questioned it then maybe that would change.
Willow figured out she was aroace(spec) when Luz began explaining what it meant to be aroace while explaining different LGBTQ+ labels to the gang
Essentially it went “wait isn’t everyone like that?” “No, Willow, not everyone is like that.” “Oh.”
(I am aware that both Hunter and Willow now have confirmed sexualities, and I am not discrediting those in headcanoning these characters. If you believe that I am doing so, please keep your thoughts to yourself and leave my page. Headcanoning characters as a sexuality differing from their canon one, as long as it does not erase their canon queer identity, is encouraged on my page. Examples I will not condone are headcanons such as a lesbian character as anything other than lesbian <excluding asexuality/aromanticism> and an aroace character as anything other than aroace.)
Alador Blight is bisexual. In his words, “I just like who I like. It doesn’t really matter to me.” He is also on the aromantic spectrum, but he doesn’t know it and chooses not to use that label.
Speaking of Alador, as much as people think he doesn’t know when people like him romantically, he does. He pretends that he doesn’t because, most often, he does not feel the same, and is unsure how to go about letting them down without hurting their feelings. He’s just a nice guy overall and doesn’t want to purposely hurt you, unless you majorly deserve it.
The marriage between Alador and Odalia was an arranged one, by Alador’s parents.
Alador is a Blight by birth, while Odalia received the surname upon their marriage.
Darius had a slight crush on Alador when they went to hexside, and he had planned on confessing this to him, until Alador admitted that his parents wanted he and Odalia to get together.
Odalia and Alador began presenting as an official couple at school shortly after that, and Darius never told Alador about his crush, feeling like he had lost his chance.
Darius assumed that he was completely past his feelings for Alador for years after that, but, when he starts talking to Alador more while the pair are working together to find a way to remove coven marks, the feelings resurface.
(Adding more as I think of them)
