I was in the Disney Store at the mall. A Kidz Bop-esque cover version of “Bodies” was playing, sung by Idina Menzel as Elsa.

Drake had died, and the last thing he left us were the lyrics, “Oooh, tiny us!” for Kidz Bop to make a cover of Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man.

The Fruit Sensory videos with “inappropriate music choices” for children/babies hits the same vein of Kidz Bop taking popular music and changing the lyrics to make it “appropriate for children”. Nothing is consistently surreal is these choices people make for “children media”.
I’m so scared of YoutubeKids. No adult actually sits down to vet any of that content.
Like that weird circle of YA where the content of books alters drastically depending on where it’s falling in the “appropriate age bracket”. And I understand YA is the darkest, weirdest hole to fall into.

Every so often, I have to grouse at my Eldest for cackling. But, on the way in to work, I had *the* worst idea. And, at first, I was just gonna tell people about it, and let they do the psychic damage it needed to.
But, then, as I passed Pizza Hut, I had an even worse thought:
How to make it work.
And I cackled. I sounded like a cartoon hyena.
I still have to do the work. Still gotta write it, if I want to wreak the havoc this idea was born to wreak. But I will give you the seed, the thought that started it.

My friend @pastamansta wanted to know if there was any kidz bop songs that are better than the originals. Luckily I've actually been working on a list and actually have quite a few already! It's not exactly complete so expect a part 2 some point in the future, but should get you a lot.
She's so High - originally by Tal Bachman
This is one that everyone I've shared it with seems to agree it's better than the original. The original song is...fine. Nothing great, nothing awful. The Kidz Bop cover's sole addition of kids choir with the mystery adult cover singer boosts the song from being "fine" to being great. Sadly this song is insanely difficult to find, as it's a b-side to an album that Kidz Bop no longer commercially sells, or at least they no longer do it with the b-side. So the only audio recording I could find online was from a youtube video, which got taken down by Kidz Bop's main company. I am not sure if there's rights issues that keep the main company from officially re-releasing this cover, so this is the best upload I can do.

What goes around, comes around - originally by Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake is, in my opinion, the blandest singer to ever get mainstream. While the kidz bop cover has midi instruments that may make it seem worse than the original at first glance, don't let you fool you, this song is an improvement over the original in every way. If there's one thing that Timberlake does better than the cover, is that he can hit the high notes better than the adult cover artist, but that's about it. This cover also omits the strangest part of the original song, which alone makes it better.

Big Girls Don't Cry - Originally by Fergie
The adult singer hits every note better than Fergie does somehow. Whoever they got to do this cover did a really, really good job. There's also something about children singing a song with the title "big girls don't cry" that elevates it somehow.
Just as good
I wouldn't call these better but I feel like these covers are just as good as the originals.

Since U Been Gone - originally by Kelly Clarkson
If there's anything that's better than the original, it's the music video, which is just great and worth the watch. The kidz don't hit the notes quite as good as Kelly, but I don't really expect them to.
youtube
Pocketful of Sunshine - originally by Natasha Bedingfield
This, in my opinion, is the de-facto Kidz Bop cover and what to show to people to prove they can make good covers. Just as good as the original, inserts the adult helper in the right areas (iirc, this is one of the last songs to feature an adult before the albums became kid singers only), and even has a better ending than the original song. Very good, but I simply can't decide if I like it more than the original, thus why it's here.
