I’m currently on December holiday. So yes! For a person who works 3 jobs (which are basically full time) + is currently doing a PhD … you best believe I’m spending my holiday watching tv/movies all day. While I would usually go on summer holiday, my gran died. So as per my culture, we spend a year mourning.

Little Women 2022 | Alcott Comparison

It’s really interesting to see the 2022 Korean adaptation of Little Women and how it’s approaching this story in such a fresh and captivating way. There are a lot of obvious changes to the narrative but I wanted to focus on the points of the story that we’ve seen so far that do parallel the original, in order to gauge where the story might be heading.

In this case, let’s talk about the Meg/John dynamic.

In-joo and Do-il are representing the characters of Meg March and John Brook. In Louisa May Alcott’s original story, Meg and John get married, have two children, and work through the ups and downs of married life – particularly when it comes to finances. In the book Meg has a desire to own fine things and be able to keep up with her wealthier friends. Saying to John at one point, “I don’t mean to waste your money…I can’t resist them when I see Sallie buying all she wants, and pitying me because I don’t. I try to be contented, but it’s hard, and I’m tired of being poor.” (Chapter 28) Additionally, Meg’s expenses keep John from being able to buy a new winter coat that he desperately needs. Meg sees the benefits of finances differently than her family does and, albeit temporarily, she longs to live in that world. She goes to the fancy party and, too Laurie’s dismay, is flirting with some of the richer men and playing the part of a women with wealth by using the name Daisy. Even if it’s only for a night, she wants to indulge in that lifestyle before giving it up to later be with John in poverty.

We see these moments paralleled in the 2022 version. In-joo is tired of being poor and longs to have the things that her wealthier friend has (Hwa-young, who is playing the role of Sallie), who in turn pities her and offers to buy her things instead (the orchid shoes, for starters). In-joo sees the benefits of money and how having it can protect and save her family. She longs for the security of finances and the opportunities it can bring much like Meg does. Also, one of the first things she buys with her money is a new winter coat, a nice reference to John Brooke in the original. When In-joo receives the money from Hwa-young, she also takes a turn playing a part, mainly with Hyo-rin’s mom – but like with Daisy, it’s a fleeting moment before it’s gone.

Now for Do-il. It’s interesting that he is first introduced as somebody who is pretty avaricious and who’s main focus is centered on money. As is with his book counterpart, John Brooke, who spends a fair amount of time dealing with money-related issues throughout the story, Do-il’s main concerns are also centered around money and finances. Also like his book counterpart, Do-il spends a lot of time teaching In-joo and providing information for her in the form of the ledgers, IOS, and figuring out what Hwa-young was doing in Singapore. And lastly, we see Do-il step up to protect In-joo much like John Brooke steps in to protect Meg many times.

Do-il is a mystery, and his moral compass, motive, and past are all clouded in shadows. But we might be able to shed some light on him if this story does in fact follow Alcott’s original design.

That being said, stepping into the realm of conjecture and hypothesis, Do-il has some serious potential that shouldn’t be ignored – particularly for anybody questioning a romantic tie between him and In-joo.

First, in the book John Brooke is the first to fall for Meg. He holds on to her glove in secret as a sweet keepsake and quietly bids his time until her affections are returned. In the book he says, “I won’t trouble you, I only want to know if you care for me a little, Meg. I love you so much, dear.” (Chapter 23). One theory in the Do-il/In-Joo romance camp is that because Hwa-young and Do-il were good friends she could have spoken a lot about In-joo during their time together. Do-il, therefore, could already have had developed feelings for In-joo long before her met her just from what he had heard. We even get a nod towards this when they’re eating together.

Another theory in that same camp is how this story seems to be inverting some of the major plot points of original (e.g. the Mrs. Oh being selfish, stealing the money and running away vs Mrs. March being everything selfless and being a walking moral compass). An inversion of Meg and John’s struggles with having no money by having In-joo and Do-il’s struggles revolving around having TOO MUCH money is a clever spin on the tale and something that wouldn’t be surprising to see.

Since In-joo and Do-il have been paired together since the first episode and have already entered into a partnership with one another with the ledgers, their connection to one other can’t be ignored or downplayed. And considering the original text by Alcott, it would be hard-pressed (although not impossible) to have these characters completely avoid a romantic subplot as their relationship will need to have some sort of arc to it. It could remain completely platonic, of course, but given that In-joo has already been married once and has mentioned it several times, In-joo’s love life has already been included in the story and is part of her character design. It would seem the natural conclusion to draw out this thread in her character, especially if In-joo and Do-il are to represent the Meg/John dynamic.

Also, given how fundamental the romantic relationships are to Alcott’s original story and how each of those relationships reflect the character growth and overall themes of the book, it would be a surprise if this version excluded all romantic subplots.

Whether or not Do-il is actually a shady avaricious narcissist who will betray everybody and turn out to be the Big Bad remains to be seen. Currently, there seem to be other characters that have more going for them in that regard, but ultimately it’ll just come down to how far the writer of this series wants to stray from the original narrative. Clearly there are a lot of secrets surrounding Do-il and being reproachful and apprehensive of his character is only natural. But given the number of other twists and turns in this plot it would make sense to have a steady baseline character or plot point for the audience to fall back on (like the romance between Vincenzo and Cha-young in Vincenzo). A trustworthy friend in Do-il, or a romantic subplot with him and In-joo would easily fulfill that need and would also parallel Alcott’s original story.

That being said – I am fully prepared to throw all this out the window because Do-il is shady as heck and could very well be the mastermind behind all this.

I am starting marathon of my favorite childhood books and mangas and dramas things i used to love when i was child. adult life sucks So i have made a list of series and who used to my favorite :-

1)Pecy jackson- percy ( i only read Olympian series)

I have finally completed pjo series - i honestly loved it overall. my fav character still is Percy Jackson but i really loved some other characters like Nico,Thalia,Zoe ,Blackjack,Mrs o Leary and for some reason i really like Rachael Elizabeth Dare( i feel she is unnecessarily hated by fandom),Artemis and Hestia are definitely my fav among gods.

I sort of dislike Luke castellan's arc tho i feel its just inconsistent l mean initially like there was no plan of his redemption and but after BOL suddenly Rick decided to make him hero and what bothers me that he was sort of pedophilic.

Now i am starting Naruto series

Dramas I've been watching:

1. All of us are dead (finished S1)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I've heard mixed reviews on this one but personally really liked it. Characters are well defined and the plot seems strangely familiar considering it's about a virus outbreak, but this one turns people into zombies...some with a twist.

2. Revenge of others (finished)

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is where my obsession with Park Solomon begins. At first I didn't even think he was my type but...give it an episode or two, he's gorgeous.

As for the drama I would say the plot was intriguing and if you like anything to do with vengeance this is for you.

3. The glory (finished)

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finally caved in after two of my friends insisted I had to watch and they were right. Again another revenge plot drama, they're really getting bigger these days. The characters are really interesting but I would worn against watching if you're sensitive to bullying topics since it does get quite extreme.

4. Hana yori dango (finished season 1)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lightest drama on this list but I'm loving it so much, it's just a silly goofy comfort show. Another version of boys over flowers (as if I needed to watch the plot a third time), but there's something about watching each country take a different spin on it and see what changes that excites me. Plus I'll say it again even if this is one of my red flags, I can't help but love this corny ass toxic plot.

I’m BACK! with another kdrama to suggest. This time… THE GLORY!

#first season is on netflix #and season 2 drops in March I think #anyways this one was reallyyyyyy fucking good #only thing is it confused me here and there but I understood what was happening in the end #but i really liked the pacing and I love a good revenge plot #it’s basically about this girl who was bullied so bad in school that she was forced to drop out #meanwhile her bullies all got off scotfree #and she basically hatches a revenge plot that has been 18 years in the making to ruin their lives #and boy does she do that 😭#only thing is that the first episode has genuinely the most triggering violence I have ever seen in a kdrama #now y’all know korean dramas don’t take bullying lightly #BUT MY GOD I WOULDNT EVEN CONSIDER IT BULLYING? IT WAS CIA LEVEL TORTURE #like I’m talking about burn wounds and assault #after the first episode we don’t really see much of the bullying #but it does show up sporadically as a sad reminder for why the main character is carrying out her revenge #so yeah if you’re sensitive to that stuff I don’t recommend the show #but if you can stomach it I recommend the show I rlly liked it

San messaged you, saying he's not feeling well today. So after finishing your work, you hurriedly commuted to get to his dorm so you could check on him and see if he needs anything.

"Huh? Y/N, what are you doing here on a friday?" Seonghwa asks, surprised to see you standing at their front door.

"How's Sannie?" You ask

"Ahhh...." he chuckles. "He's in his room... acting like a baby." He moves yo the side, gesturing you to come in. "He already ate. Mingi cooked him a soup dish to make him feel a bit better."

"Does he have a fever?"

Seonghwa shakes his head, "He's a lot much better now. He has been deligent taking his medicines, drinking water and eating well."

You sigh a big relief. "Thank goodness..."

"He just finished showering and going back to bed to watch a movie... he is basically okay now actually.. so I'm not sure why he asked you to come?" Seonghwa says scratching his head.

"What else? San probably wants some cuddles from Y/N...and get babied even more." Mingi says as he comes out of his room. "He even asked for a hug from me yesterday when I gave him his food..." he chuckles remembering how San acts.

"Probably..." you agree.

"If you two get hungry... There is food in the fridge. I cooked something for lunch earlier... just heat it up." Mingi says as he ties his shoes. "Imma go to the studio... so..."

"Be safe... you and manager." Seonghwa says

"Bye!" You wave to Mingi.

And as soon as Mingi is out

"I'll be in my room and watch a kdrama... I'll put my speaker on... and if I do get out I'll put my headset."

You title your head to the side. "Why? What for?"

Laughing softly, "We all know how San is... when he asks for you..."

You suddenly felt your cheeks heat up from what Seonghwa just said. "Oh dear!" You cover your face.

"Don't worry... We don't judge... it's part of human nature and..."

"Does that mean... you guys could hear... oh dear!" You panic

"Yah... don't worry about it... we don't really hear it all out.. probably just once time... and we learned from it."

"Oh God!" Your cheeks and ears are totally red now.

Seonghwa pats you at the back. "Sorry... I should've not said anything..."

Shyly looking at Seonghwa. "No it's fine... if ever... hmmm... we.... well... I'll try to tell him to be more quiet... and.. me too..."

"Cute." Seonghwa pinches your cheek.

Caressing your cheek after Hwa pinches you. "I'll go and check on Sannie..." you say

"Okay... I'll go and make myself busy now." He scoffs before turning his back.

You waited for Seonghwa to totally shut his door before you march towards the opposite direction, where San's room is.

"San?" You call as you knock lightly.

No answer. It's quiet.

"Sannie...?" You twist the doorknob and slowly push it open. "Sannie??" You whisper while your head is slightly tilted to take a peek if he's there. "Hmm... maybe he's asleep..."

You slide one foot first and then the rest follows. You are very cautious, trying your very best to not make any loud noise that could wake your boyfriend.

Scanning the whole room, you see that the room looks okay, nothing to clean so far. The TV is on but with a very low volumn that you barely hear it.

'He must've forgot to turn it off or probably fell asleep without him noticing' you say to yourself as you carefully walk further more in and look for the remote to turn it off.

"What are you doing?"

You screach a bit loud the second you hear someone talk just as you turned off the TV, making the room completely dark.

"I've missed you."

It's San.

"Fuck! You scared me!" You're heart is beating out of your chest.

"I can feel it..." he sounds amused by you getting scared. "You're heart is beating so fast..." he have you in his embrace from your back. "Sorry if I scared you... I was just waiting for you to get close..." he sniffs you by the neck. "I didn't thought that you'll turn off the TV..."

"Well... me too...I didn't noticed that your mini light weren't open... now it's completely dark."

"Just turn on the TV again so we can see..." he snuggles onto you more while he wrap his arm around your torse. "You're wearing a blouse?" He asks as he let his hands feel your top.

"I came straight from work..." you say. "I was so worried about you when I read your message..."

"Sorry if I got you worried..." his slides two of his fingers between the gap of your buttoned up blouse. "Mingi and Seonghwa took care of me well... but the reason why I did texted you still is because.. I miss you..." his fingers gently touches your breast. "I miss you so bad." He breathes in your scent from your nape

"I miss you too..." you take his other free hand and kisses his knuckle. "You're schedule have been hectic and I got bit busy too..."

"I'm free tomorrow and on sunday..." he hums, brushing his lips all over your exposed neck. "Stay with me..." he breathe the words as he turns your head towards him so he could kiss you. "Your lipgloss... taste like cherry..." you could hear him smile as he pulls away from the kiss

"Sannie... I need light... I want to see you..."

"You do?" He suddenly lets you go

"Hey!" You try to catch on and grab him as he moves away but you lost balance and fell off the bed. "Aw!!" Your knee hit the frame of the bed.

"Baby!" San panics and hurriesly switches on the soft light from the side of his bed.

You are wearing a black skirt with a slit on the side. And the expose knee hit the edge of the bed real hard.

"Does it hurt?"

"Yeah..." you are holding on to your knee. "It will be fine... though I'm sure I'll get a bruise..."

"Baby... I'm sorry." San grabs your face and kisses you on the lips and then on both cheeks.

"Hey... I hurt my knee...not my lips..." you chuckle.

A smile spreads across his lips and his cute dimple showing. "Please... stay..." Then he goes to kiss you again making you smile.

"Okay... But..." you raise your index finger and taps the tip of his nose. "No sex..."

"What? Why???" He pouts

"Well... unless we're not alone." You sit down and suddenly remember how embarassed you felt earlier. "Just... I don't want them to hear us..."

"But they already did..."

"You know?!?"

"Baby, how can they not? We are loud... what do you expect?"

"Fuck!" You fall down on his bed, face down. "No! I didn't want them to hear." You mumble over his duvet.

"Baby..."

You suddenly got up. "No... control yourself okay? No sex... until we are completely alone."

"You're saying that but your face shows you are not happy with what you're trying to implement." San burts to a laugh looking at your troubled expression

"Fuck! I miss you too and of course... I nee-- no... I wan--- no..." you are trying to breathe in and breathe out. "No... I'm here to cuddle and take care of you. We can play games and watch movies... to divert ourselve."

"Whatever you say, baby." San leans in and kisses you on the lips again. "I'll do whatever you say..." he hums those words like he's testing if you will break seconds into your pep talk.

"Don't lure me, Sannie. You already opened my blouse... yes... but no..." you smile into the kiss...

"I can try again later." He then pinches your cheek as he pulls away from the kiss. "I love you."
