Alastor really be the asexual ideal of a fandom bicycle. So many ships. He has such effortless rizz.

Unrelated, but I love the image of Alastor and Rosie getting the chance to wow everyone with a proper dance number. Just, deciding to cut a rug at a party at the hotel. Alastor genuinely laughing and having the time of his afterlife.

Most of the cast are impressed.

Lucifer is entertained and trying not to foster feelings.

Vox is apoplectic from jealousy.

Rosie fully planned for all of this, but the dance was fun too.

Hahaha he really is XD It's that charisma. It's too alluring.

I'm such an Alastor multishipper, I see almost any relationship he's in and derive some enjoyment from it. (Current crackship that I'm a little obsessed over is AlastorXAdam, akak AngelicRadio - mostly driven by this lovely artists work Mawdam on Twitter. I eat up everything they draw.)

GAAAH I love anything involving Alastor and Rosie. Bad Besties for life, indeed. And them cutting a rug together, genuinely having a good time, the both of them feeling so easy and comfortable in each other's presence😭 I love i!

And it's made even better by Lucifer, who's never seen this side of Alastor - this fun, happy side that humanizes him so much--that he can't help but catch feelings.

Anything involving Alastor and Vox is an immediate yes from me. God, Vox wishes that were him. I bet he fantasizes about dancing with Alastor in a such a fun, care free way. (Depending on his backstory, maybe he HAS and he misses it extremely).

There was actually a fanfic I read that kind of had this premise. It's a StaticRadio fic with a scene where they're at a club or event (something like that), and Alastor and Rosie are at the piano, drunk, singing, and having the best time. Vox is watching (because he's always watching Alastor), and just about malfunctions when Alastor takes off his tie and unclips a few buttons on his shirt, revealing a - GASP - collarbone.

This scene genuinely lives rent free in my head, I think about it all the time and I love it. I love Alastor having fun and cutting loose, and people being absolutely SHOOK by it. Him taking off his tie and unclipping the top button of his shirt is the equivalent of him stripping down to his underwear and dancing on the tables.

It's unheard of. And I love characters seeing this more relaxed, human side of him, and not knowing how to handle it. I'm obsessed with it.

i've been feeling horrendous about my writing for months now after finding someone writing the same pairing as i was and everyone just... likes her so much better than me. people are drawing fanart of her works and she's gotten so popular and i know i'm not entitled to fanart - that's not what this is about. i feel like a complete failure compared to her and i'm consumed. it feels like everything i ever wrote about that pairing is pointless and that i should just delete it all because honestly, who would care anyway? i don't like writing anymore

I think you will find fandom experience a lot more enjoyable if, instead of looking at it as a competition where there must be a winner and a runner up, you try looking at it as a community where people who share the same interests come together to talk and post about their shared interests.

personally, I like having lots of people write about my comfort ship, because that means I can enjoy more content about my blorbos. I’ve briefly talked about how hits and kudos aren’t everything when it comes to writing fanfics, so maybe you could check that out and see if it can help you feel at least a little better?

but if seeing that person’s work become popular still bothers you, maybe you can mute or block them for the sake of your mental health?

again, fandoms should be about joy and fun, not competition or anxiety. if what you’re doing costs you your mental health, maybe it’s for the best you step away for a while and see if you feel better? I’m sorry to hear you’ve lost interest in writing. but I will not advise anybody to force themself to keep writing if writing comes at the expense of their mental health. fanfics, just like fandom, should be about joy and fun and it should be your getaway. not a job or a competition. so maybe some time off could benefit you. and you can always come back anytime you’re ready.

my advice, though, is that you write for yourself because you love your comfort characters (and the act of getting to write about them alone makes you happy), not for strangers’ approval.

In my fandom experience most TB stans hate Aemond and don't like this ship either??? In fact they dislike most Aemond ships for that matter except for maybe Lucemond. there's actually a funny story to this one. > be me. > guilelessly playing kingdom hearts 2 in 2019. > "what the hell is these dudes' deal. i wonder if people ship them at all" > open ao3 thinking there might be a handful of fics > "oh there's a couple more than a few, huh" > life ruined.

my thoughts:

my favorite little guys in anything ever. they surgically removed my personality to make room for more sefikura. truly i have never loved a ship as much as this one. literal otp of all time.

What makes me happy about them:

everything? they're so funny and silly to me. extremely pathetic creatures. two absolute losers. i think of them and i always smile. i love the fact that each of them have independently made their personality revolve around each other at different points in time, it's so funny.

What makes me sad about them:

EVERYTHING. the fact they will never have a happy ending. the fact they will be enemies in every (canon) universe. the fact they are two extremely broken people who are uniquely equipped to understand each other and that won't be enough to save them.

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

tbh i'm so picky with what i like and don't like about how both these guys often end up characterized, but i also think all interpretations are valuable in their own way. i can't think of any huge annoyances, except that i have very Specific feelings/headcanons about sephiroth in crisis core era, and usually won't read things that veer too far away from that.

things I look for in fanfic:

i love any and all fics where the author makes it obvious that sephiroth is just. completely besotted. and i think cloud feeds off of that, even if he won't admit it. i'll read just about anything with these two, but i especially love stories where authors can articulate the crux of their dysfunction really well. yes, these two have have immense amounts of hate, and blood, and pain between them, but (especially on sephiroth's end) there is also an Intense desire for intimacy, of any kind. these two things juxtaposed well is just magical to me.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

no one. i say that as a joke but it's pretty much true. for cloud i do also ship him hardcore with aerith (somewhat against my own will XD), but outside of that i don't really multiship these two anymore. i used to be a Hardcore multishipper, and while i still appreciate things like some polyshipping (other cleriseph enjoyers where are you, i need food of that ot3 so bad), i honestly can't enjoy the thought of them being with anyone else. i miss being a multishipper, because these days pretty much every single other ship with them (outside of clerith) has become a notp for me. ;w;

My happily ever after for them:

in canon? haha. the closest i could see them in canon ffvii (and the closest i think part 3 of remake would get to giving them a 'happy' ending) is having a moment of resolution similar to what kuja and zidane get in ffix. i would be satisfied with that for canon. BUT if we're taking all the stops off, i want to see the dramatic epic pining slowburn post-AC where they eventually figure out how to lead semi-normal lives alongside each other. this is making me want to write that now....maybe that will be my next fic project.

who is the big spoon/little spoon:

there's an obvious answer here with consideration to builds and hair lengths, i think. i like to think cloud has accepted his fate to have this 7 foot tall piece of brick clinging to him like an octopus.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity:

this is another obvious one, and i'm tempted to say 'fighting', but i'm not sure that clears the bar of non-sexual for them. my second choice is that i think they would just genuinely enjoy being around each other in silence. they're both such introverts, and i like to think of them just recharging quietly with each other.

when I started shipping it if I did:

let me preface this by saying that when remake came out in 2020, i had less than zero interest in vii's infamous love triangle. i wanted no piece of it in my heart or my home. then the game came out and cloud and aerith gripped me by the throat and violently dragged me into falling in love with them by being so damn charming and heartfelt and perfect for each other.

my thoughts:

i love these two so damn much. i really Really loved them in remake, and rebirth intensified this to a level i could Not have anticipated and is currently ruining my life. i love them. i love that they are soulmates, romantic, platonic, or something in-between. i love that their bond and chemistry is near-instantaneous, i love that cloud blooms into letting himself experience softness around her, i love that aerith finally has someone who cares about making her happy and standing by her so damn much.

What makes me happy about them:

so much. their love is so pure and tentative. their vibes to me run parallel to how i see and experience the early 20s as a queer person, essentially the second teenage-hood where you're still feeling yourself out as a person, and you have no idea what you're doing. you feel like you're missing out on a lot of the fundamental experiences that 'normal' people have already had, and i feel like both cloud and aerith mirror that emotion, thanks to the fucked up circumstances of both their lives. aerith is cloud's first real friend after nibelheim (and potentially ever, depending on how close you think he was with zack. to me, i hc cloud and zack were pretty friendly, but not especially close prior to the nibelheim incident.) and cloud is also one of aerith's first friends. they've both suffered such acute loneliness and isolation in their lives, and the fact they find healing for that in each other is so so special to me. the fact that aerith is the person most able to reach through to the person cloud Really is, even under everything he's got going on, makes me so deranged.

What makes me sad about them:

well. there is a very obvious answer. so there is definitely That. that's kind of a big deal.

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

honestly i feel like i don't have many specific fanfic annoyances in general, because if a fic annoys me i just stop reading it, and then my adhd makes me forget i read it to begin with.

things I look for in fanfic:

i really love everything with these two, i love all the cute fluff happy ever afters they don't get to have in canon, but i also love the angst and the drama and the trauma. usually i just gravitate towards any fics that i feel understands the characters well or has interesting ideas, the exact plot or type of scenario is less important to me.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

in my heart, cloud's endgame ship is always sephiroth. as for aerith, i'm also a Huge zerith shipper (yes i am in constant emotional pain, how did you know), but aeriseph also firmly has a place in my heart.

My happily ever after for them:

any. any of them. i want the most tooth-rotting fluffy ending for these two. (admittedly, their iconic tragedy is a part of why i love them so bad. without it, my emotional investment would be Nowhere near as high.) i've been reading a lot of wedding/alternate future fics with these two lately and they all make me ;w;

i saw titanic (1997) for the first time yesterday (on a big screen, in 3d) and i found the big boat movie very enjoyable actually. yes i'm very late to the party, but i also think i am now at Peak Appreciation Capability, my timeline being this:

- too young to watch it

- ugh they made a movie about this huge tragedy and it's a ROMANCE? UGH (on one hand my teenage argument about 'people will only care about events if there's a romantic plot apparently' is in pretty bad faith and i rescind that statement, on the other hand it was impossible to go see a movie without a romantic subplot and most of them felt deeply unnecessary and tacked on)

- titanic is just a meme movie and so called classics are overrated

- wait maybe titanic is good actually. maybe i can appreciate a period piece and a tragedy and well crafted storytelling now. maybe i will watch it

BOAT MOVIE REVIEW:

- the boat is so big and so pretty

- the people are also very pretty

- i love the "creator got a hyperfixation and wrote a fanfic that's mostly an excuse to impose their rabbit hole findings and feelings upon an unsuspecting audience" energy

- molly is there. movie good

- i'm SO easy to win over with a folk music dance scene

- the fact that the swedish cinema showing didn't put subtitles on the swedes amused me

- actually really enjoyed all the small details and tiny stories hidden away in Everything Is Sinking And Breaking part of the movie. is that a weird thing to say

oh HELL yes i do!!

okay so botw is technically my favorite zelda game because it's my favorite game ever, BUT twilight princess is a really close second. i love twilight princess so much it's unreal. i actually read the tp manga long before picking up four swords! and it is NOT lost on me that himekawa made midlink kiss on the mouth and paired off ilia with shad so she'd be out of the picture as a love interest. they like their ships and i like that for them :) and re-reading the tp manga, there are quite a few minor parallels between their vio&shadow and their midlink, just in terms of how himekawa does an antagonistically flirty dynamic.

the excerpt you sent is from a piece that originally was a lot more about the parallels between vio&shadow and link&midna. i shelved the draft for months and then kinda stripped the majority of that stuff away in favor of fluff. but i do believe i was trying to expand on the ways that vio, as the hero, was meant to have a tragic ending separated from someone he loves, just as tp link is separated from midna due to circumstance. and in the manga, he literally is separated from shadow--like, they have a tragic ending. but in the fic, and the greater fanon of four swords enjoyers, that tends not to be true. v&s constantly live in defiance of everything when i write them--god, fate, the narrative itself.

tp link is a lot more conventionally heroic than vio, but he doesn't choose for midna to break the mirror. she's the one who makes that decision, and i'm still kind of confused as to why? both given the setup of the story and her characterization? idk, it's just really hard to sell me on a resolution where characters willingly give up their attachments out of obligation and it's portrayed by the narrative as good. twilight princess works because it is framed as decidedly bittersweet, maybe even just sad. four swords, however, is in this weird in-between space where it's saying the ending is good, but i don't really buy it? hence the obsession and so so so much fanfic.

in the original fic, vio reads a bunch of emo journal entries by link post-canon asking some of those questions himself. he is very sad about losing midna. this makes vio think about his happy life with shadow, and how hard they fought for it.

i then had shadow be like, "but you don't know, maybe he did find her," and vio kinda just chooses to believe it. shadow has a moment to himself and reveals to the reader that he doesn't really think that's the case. i then started on the ending section, but ended up dropping it, bc it was getting a little too thematically muddy and i wanted to just do soup fluff:

He hates that she has it, though. He knows how scars are bought with pain, and how easy it is for them to make you feel ugly. Yeah, he doesn’t want any part of that for her. The third day that he demands to see it, Jo rolls her eyes dramatically, teasingly, and tells him her bone doesn’t even ache anymore. The torn muscle just feels a little overstressed - nothing to worry about. I’m not even limping anymore. It’s not a big deal. It’s a mistake on her part. She’s already sitting on the edge of the bed where he’s ordered her, and he’s crouching at her feet, pressing the glossy seam of her skin with testing fingers - checking the color, the bloodflow. And suddenly - unaccountably quickly - he’s speechless with fury. He can taste the enamel crunching between his gritted teeth. Everything is dark sparks and white noise. “…Rocket?” Slowly - dangerously - he turns his eyes up to hers. “Maybe you forgot what happened right before you got this thing,” he says, and he knows his voice is a rumbled threat. “But I frickin’ haven’t.”

I think I get what you mean, that reading into the subtext in technicaly non-LGBT media actually leads to more creation of LGBT content by fans, which is amazing! Last I checked, Merthur had over 30 thousand fics on ao3 and all that astounding creativity comes from seeing a dynamic and exploring it thoroughly in a different context—which is hard to do with already established romances. So I totally understand the appeal.

I don't think there's anything wrong with either. Yes, people should consume more published books written by gay writers because it leads to much-needed exposure for a group that needs it, but also making cute little headcanons about your fave characters in a shonen manga is fun and enjoyment is why we consume media in the first place. It's also a comfort thing for a lot of people, and engaging in a fandom for anything leads to making friends and creating content together, which has been incredibly lovely and wholesome in my experience 🥰

Is there any reason why a lot of zines don't accept fanfic/any writing at all? I've been wanting to join one for a while but I have no artistic ability to speak of.

there are a ton of reasons for this! in fact there are so many reasons for this that it got long, so i'll stick it under a cut.

the most prominent reason: most of the people running these things are artists, and not writers! they just want to put together artbooks and are just less interested in the fanfiction side of things overall. it's a completely different skillset and an overlapping but not identical audience.

there's nothing from stopping any more fanfiction-oriented people from putting together their own zines that are just fic (theres actually an ace attorney writers zine happening right now i think? havent looked into it much) but i'd suspect the reason there isn't more of that is because the knowledge of production and distribution that's necessary to make these projects work is less common in fic writers. writers also tend to, in my purely anecdotal observation, have schedules and careers that make it less feasible for them to run these kinds of projects, whereas the people who run zines are very often freelance artists already and so they just sort of. slot this kind of thing in around their usual work cycles.

second big reason: logstics of formatting and printing. a single fic of any meaningful length takes up 4x the amount of space of a single drawing, minimum. some projects are pretty anal about keeping within specific page counts. upping the page count often adds very little to the manufacturing costs, but once your zine surpasses a certain weight it's much more expensive to ship. we ran into this problem with the AA4 zine, which was pretty beefy. it was very easy for the packages to hit over a pound in weight which made shipping more expensive than a lot of zines.

it is also INCREDIBLY difficult to format text nicely. It's a massive undertaking, I can't stress how annoying this is to do. It is also not a skill a lot of people have. Even if you're just doing it pretty bare-bones the amount of time it takes to drop a few pages of images into a pdf vs the amount of time it takes to format that many pages of text is not comparable.

a third stumbling block: vetting contributor portfolios is so much more involved and consuming than vetting art portfolios. i can easily go through dozens of art portfolios in one sitting. let's pick a random number and call it 30 before getting burned out and needing to take a break. it really doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to decide on most portfolios; at first glance, you can get a strong idea of a person's overall body of work. it's only the edge cases that take very long to look over. Going through 30 art portfolios would realistically take me under 2 hours, easy.

On the flipside, it is impossible to tell the quality of writing from an initial glance most of the time. You have to actually go in and read a certain amount before you can decide. I'm going to be very very conservative and say that you'll read, lets say 1000 words from a contributor's writing portfolio before you make a decision. Going through 30 portfolios now means reading at minimum 30,000 words of writing. Could I do that in two hours? Maybe. But it'd be a lot harder.

Now most zines get HUNDREDS of applicants, but bigger fandoms can easily hit over 1000. This means hundreds of thousands of words of reading before you even begin the actual work of the project. It's just an insane time commitment. Then, once the project begins, you run into similar problems for critique. It takes a way longer time to beta read 50 fics than it does to give notes for 50 drawings. It's just a super different kind of work that not many people are interested in doing on the kind of scale required for zines.

and a final reason: enjoyment of fanfiction is, I feel, a LOT more heavily dependent on how much you share the creator's opinions on the source material than fanart is. Gauging stuff like how 'in character' writing is is highly subjective but also super important, which makes it a much more difficult call to make. since it takes much less time and effort to engage with a drawing, that drawing not lining up perfectly with your interpretation of the characters is less likely to be a dealbreaker if there is enough technical competency in the execution to make up for it. At least for me, that is, because there's often a lot less context to impose these character assumptions on in a drawing. You as the audience to a piece of art have more freedom with interpreting it than you do with writing. Meanwhile, with fanfiction, you're either on board with what the writer is selling you or you aren't. There are plenty of perfectly technically competent writers out there whose stuff I will never be interested in reading because it is very easy for me to be knocked out of my enjoyment of a fic due to just one or two bits of throwaway characterization I don't agree with. And I am absolutely far pickier than most, but I don't think i'm wrong in saying that overall people are pickier about how characters are portrayed in fic than they are in fanart.

essentially, everything about the process of large-scale fanzines is much more suited towards the visual arts process than the writing process.

me and a beloved friend are building a story where that happens! im not gonna go into detail bc i don't wanna spoil their fic, but there's also a bit of petekey involved, so there's elements of replacing what you really want with something else and insane jealousy and obsession. and UGH i could talk about our little au forever. im obsessed with it.

i just love the unhealthier side of things. one of my favorite little lines in a fanfic EVER is about the bros pushing down nausea when they're having sex for the first time. bc they KNOW its wrong and gross but they want each other so much. they just gotta push through it. its tragic and disgusting and SO romantic.

while the toxic stuff is great and fascinating and hot, i think the main reason i love this ship is because of the innate closeness they have. gee and mikey, just irl, are obviously uniquely close. i don't know many siblings who are like "being cooped up in a gross van with my sibling for weeks on end sounds doable, even enjoyable, bc we naturally like to be that close and spend that much time together". that shit is insane. and beautiful. and i'm very drawn to the idea of that connection, romantic/sexual or not.

but i gotta make it sexual bc i am a massive perv and they're both hot. and also gerard is clearly also some kind of perv. look at my fucking pfp. i don't have any reason to believe anything seriously incesty has actually happened, but i just know gerard has thought about it.

Late, and unexpectedly. In November 2022, I was working a job I didn't like in a landlocked city, so I decided to rewatch Hawaii 5-0. I'm not a fan of copaganda, but it's a show from my childhood, I have lots of good memories tied to it, and I was missing the sea and the vibes from back home very much (and Hawaii is reminiscent of these). With an adult eye, I interpreted the main relationship of the show as a queer-coded romance. And there's this episode where they're on a stakeout, and its. A fanfiction trope from beginning to end. Complete with "maybe we should pretend we're gay". I sat and wrote a one-page sort of character study, shelved that, and wrote a 10k coda for the episode.

I was so happy to be writing fanfic, because nothing had inspired me enough before, but I wanted to be a fic writer to share that with my tumblr and discord friends.

I'm almost pathologically attached to canon, as a writer and enjoyer of media, so my brain rarely wanders into headcanon territory. But you know what, I'm gonna come out with it and talk about a ship I've never (ish) talked about, if not one a favorite ship of mine.

Fetch/Khay. I can just see it, okay (I can go into details of why on discord if you want). My headcanon is that it's very possible they had sex on the way to Incarva. Before or after they were parted from Theo, I don't know. Maybe it happened several times and they caught habits. If they did, Fetch definitely lets her burn him too much before he tells her it hurts, and he likes it.

It's not very happy, but I miss my friends a bit. You know how adult life is. Some times are busier than others, there are low and high tides in the activity of a friend group. I love my friends and I know they love me, and we love talking together and being a part of each other's daily lives, so I know it'll pick up eventually. But it's a quiet time right now and I miss them. I'm wondering how I could remedy this, what I could do.

1, 6, 7, and 9 about your current fave fic of yours (I'm not familiar with what midgexlenny is, but tell me about it if you want to!)

Lol oh I do sometimes feel bad for my poor Sherlolly mutuals putting up with me while I lose it over a different ship ❤️ they're different but the venn diagram of pairings does overlap in places.

First off, this is Midge and Lenny from Amy Sherman Palladino's The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. They're two foul mouthed stand up comedians in the late 1950s/early 1960s and they're soulmates.

If you enjoy Gilmore Girls level fast paced dialogue but with more f bombs and so so so many pretty dresses I definitely recommend at least bits of the show.

Being that Lenny is a fictionalized version of real life comedian Lenny Bruce (originally intended to only appear in the pilot but they brought him back as part of the show because the chemistry was just too good. The actors are friends in real life and the joy in working together comes through in some really beautiful performances) the final canon of the show was a bit handcuffed on just how far the creators decided they could let the ship sail but that's where the fanfic comes in 😂

Which brings me to my fic Guess Who's Coming to Yom Kippur!

*What is your favorite thing about this fic?*

This was my first dive into writing for this fandom and it has been so much fun. Truly delightful! So many things I've enjoyed with this one. But my favorite thing I think is that it really is an ensemble piece. The characters of the show are all very nuanced, often delightfully flawed, sometimes wacky individuals and I love giving them all a seat at the table and getting to know them. Sometimes quite literally within the fic (it centers around a big family dinner for several chapters). I've had to think of scenes cinematically and it's stretched my dialogue writing in a really enjoyable way. There's at least one scene I wrote visualizing it as a long tracking shot with characters moving in and out, very high energy and lovingly chaotic. It's a fic that has a lot to do with family both found and blood related and how love can show up and show through in a lot of humorous ways.

*Were there any alternative versions of this fic?*

Yes! I originally came up with the idea a season prior to my actually getting around to writing it (wrote it after watching season 4, thought of it watching season 3). The original vague concept for it was much shorter and ended with Midge and Lenny in more of an ambiguous but hopeful "maybe someday" where as the current fic has them very much endgame. And I'm quite happy with that. I feel like I discover more about the story and the characters the longer I work on it. I'm eventually going to write a sequel because I'm having so much fun (another first for me!)

*Favorite line of narration/ Favorite bit of dialogue*

So this fic is currently sitting at over 62k words and counting (it comes with trying to emulate Amy Sherman Palladino levels of dialogue) Easily the longest thing I've written 😅😅😅 I'm not sure I could pick any specific favorites without reading through the whole thing again. And maybe not even then. There's a lot of moments I'm very fond of. Though most probably require more context than would make it easy to share. I'll include a snippet of the tracking shot arrival scene I mentioned since that doesn't require a ton of context from the show other than knowing the names mostly.

In this bit they're arriving at a party hosted by Midge's ex in-laws and Lenny is meeting her older brother Noah and his wife Astrid for the first time. Esther is Midge's two year old daughter. Noah is canonically a secret agent. Lenny is known for getting arrested for things he says in his stand up (a proponent of free speech in a red scare era).

They arrived at the Maisel residence as dusk began to settle in over the sleepy suburb.

"Hi everyone! Sorry we're late. Esther needed to make a pit stop," Midge called out as they let themselves through the front door.

"Us too! We just got in," Noah said from somewhere deeper in the house.

Midge set the kids loose and made her way towards the kitchen. "Mama, Shirley, what can I help with? Oh, Esther sweetie, I don't think Grandma wants you touching that."

"Hi Midge," Astrid greeted, coming in holding little Chaim.

"Hey Astrid! One second," Midge called over her shoulder, rushing to corral Esther away from the more breakable tchotkes. "Esther. Esther put that down!"

Lenny smiled, collecting the kids discarded shoes into a pile by the door.

"Oh hi! You must be Midge's friend." Astrid gave him a welcoming smile.

"Lenny," he supplied.

"Lenny. So nice to meet you. I'm Astrid. This is Chaim." She held her son out for him to hold, passing him off. "Would you mind?"

"Oh I–" Lenny took Chaim in hand on reflex as Astrid didn't wait for a yes or no.

"Thanks." 

She gave him another quick smile before dashing out the front door and wretching over the porch rail.

Lenny held Chaim at arms length, both too stunned by the transfer to know how to proceed. 

"Hello…" he attempted, looking the child in the eye.

"Astrid, honey?" Midge's brother's lanky limbs carried him into the foyer in search of his wife.

Midge returned with a rescued porcelain figurine in hand. "Hey Noah, how was traffic–oh my god."

She stepped out immediately to check on Astrid the moment she saw her, leaving Lenny with Noah and his offspring.

"Yours, I believe," Lenny said finally, handing Chaim to Noah.

"Yeah…" Noah replied, taking his son while glancing after his wife and sister in concern.

The two men stared each other down for a moment, neither one quite sure how to react to the other.

"I'm Lenny."

"I know."

AS FOR HEADCANONS, I mostly end up just rotating them in my head but I do have a few because I cant help myself:

Thus, Platy is the one that flirts constantly because its much easier to jokingly flirt with your best friend than to actually tell him - am I right?

Chilled is SUPER oblivious to this but he still flirts back because he thinks its just a joke and it like hurts Platy so fucking much but its fine its fine its fine

Like I genuinely think other people figure it out before Chilled does, like Courtilly or Jeremy or someone idk

Chilled falling for Platy I think is a much slower process, a much more gradual realization - maybe not even a full realization until Platy's feelings are kinda shoved in his face
