WIP guessing game - “Fight”
For the WIP Fanfic Game: Send me a word, if it’s in my wip document I’ll answer your ask with the sentence that it appears in.
I'm choosing one of my Many Picard!Seven Meets Her Voyager!Family.
Janeway, Tom, and B'Elanna jump forward in Time and meet Seven. Post-Stardust City Rag.
“I assume you’ve participated in bar fights, Mr. Paris?” Janeway asked, sotto voce. “Practically lived in bars once upon a time.” “No offense, but this is a lot more dangerous than a bar fight!” B’Elenna said after a snarl. Janeway had no doubt B’Elenna cut an intimidating figure befitting her Klingon heritage. “We can all just walk away,” Janeway said in a placating tone. Still hoping to de-escalate. It’s a different matter being on a ship with phasers and torpedoes, another matter when it’s just them. Janeway shifted her weight, but they’re not going to go down easy either. Janeway hates losing in anything. And her priority is to get her crew out of here, safe. Somewhere behind them Janeway heard someone swear, the sound of breaking glass.
Someone stumbled into their group, knocking Janeway back to the side, into B’Elanna. B’Elanna caught her arm and steadied Janeway. “Watch it!” One of the Romulans growled.
The interloper wore a battered brown leather jacket and reeked of alcohol. “You’re in my way.”
Janeway blinked and turned her head, the person was hunched over and even if she didn’t see who it was, it seemed they’d had better days. Aside from the heavy stench of alcohol, the stringy dirty blonde hair was all over the place preventing Janeway from seeing any discernible features. “Mind your business.” “Funny,” the interloper said with a rasp to their voice. “That was what I was trying to do.” And then almost suddenly, the leather jacket interloper bashed their head against the lead Romulan. The Romulan reared back falling against a stool and crashing to the floor. The cronies of the Romulan roared to retaliate but their leather-clad savior already had two guns out. One of the guns was aimed at the lead Romulan’s head and the other to keep away the others. “These Starfleet trash are my bounty.” Janeway felt her jaw drop when she finally saw their rescuer’s face as she stood at her full height. “What the hell!” She heard Tom whisper. “This isn’t your business, half-meat!” Instead of answering, a heavy boot stomped on the leg of the Romulan gang leader. Janeway cringed, hearing bone break. The Romulan yowled. “This is Ranger business. They’re my bounty. And if you call me that again,” Seven, and it was Seven. No one else had that profile, that distinctive Ocular implant. But the expression on her face was wholly alien. “I’ll tear your arm off and beat your friends with it.” The tension was palpable but the energy had shifted in their favor. Seven turned her head tagging each and every occupant in the room and they visibly recoiled. And then she turned her gaze at them and Janeway found herself, not recoiling exactly but taking a startled step back. Janeway was used to being on the receiving end of Seven’s furious stares but she was used to Seven's furious stares in a placid facade. There was a rawness in her expression that reminded Kathryn far too much of the first time Seven of Nine woke-up in the sick bay after her exo-plating was removed. Tom was not used to Seven's glares. And seemed to have taken a step back almost behind B’Elenna. “Let’s go.” Seven threw some credit chips on the bar and then swept away. She clearly expects them to follow. At least that part of Seven had not changed. Janeway looked at Tom and B'Elanna and then nodded her permission to follow Seven. They stumbled out of the bar into a chilly and sandy street. Seven was a few steps away from them. “What the hell is going on?” B’Elenna demanded.
“I have no idea,” Janeway admitted. “But we have to catch up with Seven.” “Or someone who looks like Seven,” Tom said. “Either way, we have to go,” Janeway said picking up the pace.

Last Line Challenge
Rules: in a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or as many as you feel like).
Got tagged by @seascribbling. Thank you!
If we want to be nitpicky the last couple of lines were adding missing references for various worldbuilding documents
see: Art - Claudia Bueno light art installations (examples in Bilder titled same as here) (in Clips) see: Worldbuilding - Vertical farming with broccoli on an aeroponic tower (in Clips) see: Worldbuilding - Mushroom spores fuiting bodies (in Clips, Bilder) see: Fashion - glowing tattoo (Bilder, Skin fashion)
but I’m trying to be less nitpicky so have the last few lines of what I’m cleaning up from a discord snippet
The heavy fabric settles around his waist, the connectors snapping to their mates in the armour, even as he has to hook the surplus length of the kamas belt into his own. He know it'll take a minute for the integrated enviromental controls to start heating but he already feels warmer. A stiff breeze shakes the vestibul and causes the end of the heavy fabric to ripple, making an almost inaudible shushing sound that he more feels than hears as it brushes across his ankle guards. Next to him Bacara shifts and Rex gaze snaps up automatically, his bucket scanning what he can see of the starlit camp.
Nominating to share the painjoy of presenting something half cooked: @elthadriel @bitter-chocolate-stars @painterofhorizons @tarysande @tanoraqui @thievinghippo @rhubarbdreams @corvod @catboydogma
As always, no pressure, just fun (:

anon frēond also asked for Walt/Vic; again, apologies.
1. What made you ship it?
as best i can recall, it was the one-two punch of episodes 1x06 and 1x07. in the beginning i knew almost nothing about the show beyond the fact that katee sackhoff was in it. she was the sole reason i started watching. my internal dialogue went something like this: katee sackhoff! seriously, though? a western? but, but, katee sackhoff! ugh, fine, i’ll give it a try.
naturally, i fell in love with vic in the first episode, but i also fell in love with the dynamic between her and walt. there was already so much depth to it: they clearly enjoyed each other and there was obviously a bond that went beyond their work relationship, but it wasn’t quite friendship, so there was some tension there. a rich vein of feelings to mine, if you will, which is where i live.
to be honest, apart from vic, i wasn’t all that into the show at first. if i’d paid more attention to the whole of it, contexts and whatnot, i might’ve begun shipping them earlier. as it was, i believe i didn’t even really pick up on the significance of events in 1x06 until i watched 1x07. that was the point at which i was hurled into a level of “Help, I Am Emotionally Compromised By These People Being In The Same Scene And/Or Talking To Each Other” not experienced since i started watching the x-files as a teenager.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
everything? everything. while there are aspects of canon i dislike or disagree with, none of those things affect how much i love the relationship between these characters in its entirety. i love that they like each other, that they have fun together, how protective they are of each other, how they constantly fuck up their relationship because of their individual issues, how they constantly fuck up their relationships with other people because of their feelings for each other. i love how messy and real it all is.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
i feel like in a way shipping them is itself an unpopular opinion, despite the canonical nature of the relationship. there's a lot of anti-vic sentiment in both the show and the book fandoms and that distills into a concentrated form when it comes to her and walt. having the gall to disagree with the thesis that vic is the embodiment of evil and has ruined walt's life makes a person pretty unpopular in certain enclaves.

let's start with Kathryn Janeway for the Trek Ask game! (I'd love to hear both the question you'd ask her and the answer you think she'd give!)
For the Trek question ask game
I already answered for Kathryn Janeway here.
Although, I think I do have one more question I want to ask Janeway— when she’s all alone and sometimes trapped behind the desk for two years… Does she miss being in the Delta Quadrant and being answerable to no one?
Does she miss dodging bullets? Does she miss the kind of dancing and tactical challenge of being out amongst the stars with only her crew and her wits at her back.
And, I think she would answer— yes, she misses it. But that doesn’t mean that she wants to be back to that time, she just wants to feel the thrill of discovery again and the challenge of facing off with an enemy that has her outgunned.
But also, she loves that she has back-up now.
Send me a Trek character and I’ll reply with a question I would ask them — and, if you want, my hoped-for answer.

i would love to hear about jedi soul bond O.O
[meme link here]
This fic is where I’m trying to explore the soul bond/soul marks trope.
This is a female Jedi OC/Command Clone OC/female Mandalorian OC fic dealing with soul mates, potential genocide, memories of a future that hasn’t happened (yet) and what it means to know your soulmates would do terrible things to you and your family if things are left unchanged.
So far it’s a collection of small scenes building up the connection between the three OCs as well as why the Order hides the marks on its members (though that may be a subplot that gets thrown out)
Basically it’s a power fantasy that I really, really enjoy thinking about.
Background: It’s vaguely based on a Jango/Obi-Wan fic in which Jango agreed to the cloning project but with the goal to use the clones as shock troops to restore the Mandalorian Empire – and also to eradicate the Jedi Order. So the clones are raised as (secret) mandalorians.
When Obi-Wan arrives on Kamino Jango realises that his soul mark means he and Obi-Wan are bonded. There’s a problem though: Obi-Wan doesn’t have a soul mark. In this universe the Order hides their members soul marks when they appear – and because soul marks appear during infancy/toddler hood the affected persons are unaware that they have them. The galaxy at large believes that Jedi/Force Sensitives don’t have soul marks.
So Jango delays his original plans and orders everyone to play along with Sidious little game – with the exception that trainers are free to join battalions in the name of “quality control”. Jango, of course, joins the 212th.
I couldn't find the fic last time I looked or I would link it.

anon frēond asked for Sergio/Raquel and it took too long because i always overthink things sorry.
1. What made you ship it?
the tipping point at which i went from “ah, yes, the narrative is leading me to believe these people will be romantically involved” to “Help, I Am Emotionally Compromised By These People Being In The Same Scene And/Or Talking To Each Other” was when raquel tells sergio about her husband’s abuse in 1x04. raquel is just so vulnerable and real and brave and earnest, and then so utterly surprised by this complete stranger not only believing her but also offering to help her. and obviously the dramatic irony is that we know it’s part of the con, except double dramatic irony because it’s also very much not part of the con. while the professor might have come up with the idea of approaching the inspector as salva to get close to her, sergio is the one who’s beginning to realise just how much he’s underestimated this woman. she’s not just a chess piece to him anymore, not just inspector murillo, but a whole person who’s suffered and continues to suffer under the same system he’s trying to fight.
his face when she puts her hand over his just does something to me. he reminds me of a domesticated animal that’s not feral but also isn’t used to human contact. when someone touches an animal like that, its reaction is exactly like sergio’s: freezing, surprise, confusion. usually the animal will very slowly start to relax when it realises there’s no ill intent in the touch. sergio doesn’t get to that stage because ángel interrupts them, alas. but the way sergio then yanks his hand back as if he’s done something wrong is a very interesting reaction in and of itself. and we know raquel is also feeling some things because when he pulls away, she looks confused and hurt until she notices ángel. (does it seem like i’ve watched the scene many times? because i’ve watched the scene many times.)
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
as i wrote recently: if you'd told me back in november that i'd become deeply emotionally invested in a relationship that starts off with subterfuge and deceit, then progresses into them chaining each other to pipes and holding one another at gunpoint, finally culminating in the promise of happily ever after, i would've rolled my eyes hard enough to sprain them. on paper the premise is so far away from what i value in relationships (equality, trust, a complete lack of stalking), that if i'd known about it i probably would've never watched the show.
and i’m so glad i did watch it because it’s one of those rare examples of how good writing makes the unexpected compelling. the very relationship dynamics i ordinarily don’t like are exactly what i love about this ship entirely because of the complexity and nuance of their treatment. trust is my #1 favourite thing and the story of sergio and raquel’s relationship is nothing less than a tour de force exploration of trust in all its permutations. they’re two damaged people who are caught unawares by a bond that grabs them and won’t let go. they have this instinctive level of trust in each other right from the start, and even in their worst moments together, even when they don’t believe they can trust each other, they want to, and even when the trust seems broken, on some deep unconscious level it remains intact. i have a lot of feelings about this!
(like, okay, it’s entirely deliberate that their first conversation in 1x02 and their final conversation in 2x08 both include the question “can i trust you?” and are essentially the complete opposite of each other in every single aspect. just those two exchanges in and of themselves represent an entire essay about the characters and the journey of their relationship mediated through the concept of trust, and i’m such a nerd that i could actually write that essay because i live for this stuff.)
my #2 favourite thing is a woman arriving in a guy’s life and tearing it wide open then mending it just by existing. that pretty much describes every f/m ship i’ve ever had and these two are a particularly concentrated and superb example of the genre. also lbr they are Very Pretty together.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
honestly, i don’t feel that i know enough about the popular opinions in LCDP fandom to know what’s unpopular. one thing that i’ve noticed, though, at least in a lot of fic i’ve encountered, is the idea that sergio should have punished alberto in some way in order to avenge raquel. for me that’s a hard no. whether or not sergio has thought the situation through, or just instinctively understands it, the fact that he doesn’t take it upon himself to take any action against alberto post-heist is absolutely the best thing he could do for raquel. an abusive relationship strips you of your self-worth, your autonomy, your confidence in your ability to make good decisions. so as difficult and painful as it is for raquel to have to handle all the alberto-related shit herself, someone else just sweeping in and “fixing” it for her (without her knowledge or consent) would simply be another instance in which she’s deprived of control of her own life. now, if at some point sergio asked her if she wanted him to do something about alberto and she said yes, that would be absolutely fine because she’s in charge of making the decision herself. but taking that opportunity away from her is exactly what alberto did and, no matter how well-intentioned sergio’s actions would be, ultimately it’s the same thing.
