“It’s our basic human right to be fuck-ups. This civilisation was founded on fuck-ups!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And after roughly 3 weeks of waiting, hoping, and constant refreshing of the tracking page, here it is finally, I am able to hold it, and see it, and analyse every intricate little detail of its design, and its packaging. And it makes me feel somewhat fulfilled.
I honestly keep struggling to find the words for this caption, my thoughts are all over the place and it feels like no praise or fawning will suffice, no amount of love dumping will be nearly enough to describe how absolutely lovely this record is.
Tumblr media
The World’s End is a film I was afraid I wouldn’t like, even when I was just getting into The Cornetto Trilogy and familiarising myself with everything around it, I could just TELL The World’s End was, not quite a black sheep, but the odd one out in the trilogy. I saw hordes and hordes of people rave over Shaun (rightfully), I saw thousand of dedicated followers of Fuzz (VERY rightfully), but at most I saw a couple hundred people campaigning for End to have more recognition. So when it came to finally watch it for the first time, I was honestly nervous and I vividly remember I had to keep pausing the movie over and over again whenever Gary said or did something dumb, I felt bad for him, he seemed enthusiastic and he longed for his old life with his friends and none of them even trusted him. So that set a very specific lens quite early on that I saw the whole movie throughout, and I think it actually helped me appreciate the movie from the get-go.
So I decided to put my big boy pants on, stop systematically pausing the movie, and sit through it, no more pauses or interruptions.
•“12 Historic Ale Houses!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I quickly found myself enamoured with End, I loved the unapologetic and almost blatant Sci-Fi route of the film, after all, Sci-Fi in general is a genre I hardly consume, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that this film alone opened the doors of the genre to my once closed eyes. I grew to love the characters oddly quickly, my stand-outs obviously being Gary and Andy, but I also made room in my heart for Sam and Steven (the only survivors, ha!)
Also, it may have been the Blu-Ray doing its Blu-Ray thing but I thought the film looked PHENOMENAL, easily the most visually interesting film out of the Three, maybe it was also the use of more contemporary cameras and technology, it was an absolute treat to the eyes. The filmmaking and directing choices have been pointed out time and time again, Edgar Wright has the best directing style of any modern filmmaker.
But let’s get to the main subject, the soundtrack!
Tumblr media
•The World’s End: Original Movie Score (Mondo Exclusive , Pressed on Crowning Glory Ale Vinyl)
This is a beautiful little record! It’s easily one of the prettiest in my entire collection, usually a splatter vinyl like this is pretty hit or miss, I’ve had my fair share of less than stellar records, but this one NAILED IT! I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures, but this record looks EXACTLY like a nice, cold, foamy and enriching pint of Ale, and the design of the centre labels is oddly satisfying, I lack the right words to describe it, but the entire film carries a sort of “vintage-ish” aesthetic in its graphic design and motifs, hopefully I’m making myself clear with that. It’s a mix of vintage and modern, if I had to describe it!
The record is very nice to the touch, it’s solid and quite heavyweight (which is a reassurance when it comes to vinyl), and it looks absolutely stunning when held up to the light. A detail I love is how the labels seem to slowly uncover the presence of The Network as they go on, by Side D the centre label makes it awfully clear that The Network is, a) a thing, and b) present everywhere in Newton Haven.
Tumblr media
In the gimmick/fun little trinkets department, we have a small pamphlet! Styled as a tourist guide for the pubs in Newton, it features a full map of the town (the one Gary used to mark up the pubs), and the commentaries by both Edgar Wright and the composer Steven Price, these are frankly a treat to read and give so much more insight into not only the making of the score, but also the deeper meaning of the score, what Prince intended to transmit with the creative decisions he made while making and building the score, it makes listening to it a much more rewarding experience.
Tumblr media
This will be forever one of my favourite items I’ve ever owned, period. Not favourite vinyl records, or movie memorabilia, items in general. And I feel immensely grateful to not only have it and hold it, but to also share it with everyone in a cohesive and engaging way. Writing this post has been an absolute privilege! Hopefully it is mildly decent and not just another one of my soliloquies.
Tumblr media
If you got all the way here, you have my eternal gratitude and I love u mwah. here’s a cookie for your troubles 🍪
Let’s Boo-Boo.

Newton Gimmick's little theme song from both the Teddy Ruxpin tapes and show is so darn catchy. Not three days go by without me having the 'So Gimmick keeps on working' part pop into my head apropos of nothing.
Also the TV version is weird. It just kind of happens. And it's not like in the beginning where we're be introduced to Gimmick, it's in the 27th episode where we're very aware of his character. And it's not like the episode needed a song because there's already that awful(sorry) ballad Teddy sings about the crystals. And the animated sequence doesn't even depict him building the stethoscope, it shows him building a movie projector. Also the first shot has a very obvious animation error. But to some extent I think all this makes me love it more.

Pokemon of the Week! #841: Flapple!
Tumblr media
Welcome, nerds, to Pokémon of the Week!
Where I, Sesh, generate a random Pokémon to highlight each week!
Last week, we highlighted the OG water pupper good boi Dewgong. That post can be found down below:
This week, we are highlighting a...very unique Pokémon. An adorable, yet powerful, apple-based Dragon-type, Flapple!
Tumblr media
I mean, he's a flappin' apple! FLAPPLE!
HE'S A FLAPPIN' DAD JOKE, GUYS!
So let's dive in!
~ORIGINS~
Flapple debuted in 2019's Sword & Shield versions for the Nintendo Switch. Thus far, these are the only games Flapple has appeared in.
Besides a handful of Mega Evolutions (as far as I know), Flapple and it's other evolutions are the only Pokémon dual-typed at Dragon and Grass.
I feel like Flapple is overlooked quite a bit. I mean, Sword & Shield has another dragon type that kind of overshadows our appley friend here.
Tumblr media
And it's Ghost and Dragon type.
But this is a Flapple highlight post, not a Dragapult post...
Flapple hasn't had much media attention in the anime, either, which might contribute to it taking a back seat to Dragauplt.
BUT DRAGAPULT DOESN'T HAVE A GIGANTAMAX FORM
Tumblr media
For those out of the know, Dynamax and Gigantamax are gimmicks from Sword & Shield that allow Pokémon to grow to massive sizes for 3 turns in certain locations, changing their moves into HUGE DEATH MOVES THAT SWALLOW ENEMY POKEMON WHOLE.
Dynamax just increases size, but some Pokémon have Gigantamax forms, which increase size and change their appearance as well.
So Flapple appears to turn into a massive, gooey apple worm when it Gigantamaxes. Go figure. It's divergent evolution, Appletun, shares this G-Max form with Flapple, which is unique.
Which segues quite nicely into my next point...
Clearly, Flapple is inspired by worms that burrow into apples to feed on their cores. Geometer moth larvae in particular, according to Bulbapedia.
Tumblr media
Why geometer moths? Well, according to the Pokedex in Sword version, Flapple keeps "an acid capable of causing chemical burns" in its cheeks. Geometer moth larvae feed on apple cores to ingest a chemical compound called 'amygdalin', which releases CYANIDE into the body when digested.
bruh
The fact it's a dragon may be a pun on the old English way of referring to dragons as "wyrms".
So...yeah. A flappin' apple wyrm.
Tumblr media
Flapple may also be inspired by the tale of Ladon, a mythical Greek dragon that guards golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides, nymphs that supposedly controlled the sunsets. Below is a statue of Hercules fighting it:
Tumblr media
In a more Biblical idea, Flapple may also be inspired by Satan, in the form of a serpent, persuading Eve to eat the forbidden fruit in the book of Genesis. That might be a bit of a stretch, but it still works.
Tumblr media
This next idea of it's inspiration, though, is freakin' metal.
Flapple's signature move, Grav Apple (which causes giant apples of draconic death to fall on your opponent), may imply an inspiration from the discovery of gravity by Sir Isaac Newton in England when an apple supposedly fell on his head. As Galar is based on England, that isn't too much of a stretch at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SO MUCH FLAPPIN' APPLE-BASED LORE TO EXPLORE
One more fun apple fact for ya'll...
When it's in it's G-Max form, the Shield Pokedex entry states that when it stretches out it's neck, "the strong aroma of its nectar pours out. The scent is so sickeningly sweet that one whiff makes other Pokémon faint."
MOTHER OF
Tumblr media
This flappin' dragon wants to make you faint with it's honey-smellin' neck farts.
Anyway...
~DESIGN~
Here's Flapple's official artwork:
Tumblr media
Quoted from Flapple's biology section on Bulbapedia:
"Flapple is a green, worm-like dragon Pokémon with a light green underside and yellow eyes. It uses parts of an apple to form its body. The top part of the apple sits on the top of its head, with a single horn sticking out; the bottom of the apple is attached to its tail; and the sides are attached to its limbs, which have three-clawed hands, allowing them to act as wings.
Its cheeks store acid strong enough to induce chemical burns. It can attack by spitting this acid at its targets. It is also able to disguise itself as an apple by folding its wings."
Below is the official art for G-Max Flapple:
Tumblr media
Next, the biology section on it's G-Max form:
"When exposed to Gigantamax energy, Flapple changes into the shape of a giant apple with a green dragon-like Pokémon inside. Its leaf-like eyestalks stand up straight and it has the top of the apple on its head with yellow carvings on the apple resembling nostrils. Its tail is elongated and wraps around the base of the apple. The Pokémon has rounded cheeks and hangs its mouth open letting a red tongue hang out of its mouth. Three red clouds float around the neck.
The sweet nectar that covers its body increases in thickness, allowing it to absorb more damage than normal. It can shoot out nectar, enough to be able drown its opponents in the blast of nectar. Flapple can produce significantly sweeter nectar in Gigantamax form. An intensely sweet aroma of nectar pours out when it stretches its neck, and this aroma is so sweet it can cause other Pokémon to faint by merely taking a sniff of the scent."
~ADVANTAGES~
Flapple is best fielded type-wise against Water-types, as it's grass typing makes for a huge advantage against them.
Flapple is highly resistant against Ground and Electric-types as well.
Flapple has an exceptionally high base Attack stat at 110. Teach it physical attacks that hit hard. It's Special Attack state is not that far behind at 95.
Your Flapple may have the signature ability "Ripen". If so, this doubles the effect of berries used on it in battle.
If your Flapple has the "Gluttony" ability, HP-restoring berries will take effect at 50% HP rather than 25% HP.
Further making Flapple a really heavy-hitter, if your Flapple has the hidden ability "Hustle", upon entering battle, your Flapple's Attack state will automatically skyrocket by 50%.
It's G-Max form HITS EVEN HARDER.
~DISADVANTAGES~
Dragon-types hate Ice-types normally. But DO NOT field Flapple against Ice-types AT ALL. It's added Grass-typing makes it QUADRUPPLY WEAK to Ice.
Like other Dragons, it is weak to other Dragon moves, as well as Ice.
It's Grass-typing makes this Dragon-type weak to more things than normal Dragon-types. Be cautious when fielding against Flying, Poison, and Bug-types.
It's kind of a glass cannon. It's lowest base state is Special Defense, and can't take hard hits very well.
Going back to the "Hustle" hidden ability; though your Attack skyrockets 50%, the accuracy of your physical moves goes down by 20%. Make sure to use moves with high base Accuracy if your Flapple has "Hustle", or you'll be missing your target a lot.
Flapple is capable of learning the hard-hitting move "Heavy Slam". However, it is the lightest Pokémon capable of doing so. As a result, the damage it deals out using "Heavy Slam" is actually quite low. I wouldn't recommend teaching it "Heavy Slam."
~HOW TO OBTAIN~
As stated earlier, the only games Flapple are obtainable in as of the writing of this post are the Sword & Shield versions, where it debuted.
Catch it's base form, Applin, and evolve it. Applin can be found it quite a bit of locations; Route 5, and in possible Max Raid battles in the Wild Area at Dusty Bowl, Giant's Mirror, Axew's Eye, Bridge Field, Dappled Grove, Giant's Mirror, Rolling Fields, and the Stony Wilderness. It can also be found in multiple locations in the expansion pass zones which I won't list.
Tumblr media
Evolve Applin into Flapple by giving it a Tart Apple. Tart Apples are only available in Sword version, and cannot be purchased or found in Shield, making Flapple somewhat of a version exclusive Pokémon. If you have Sword version, you can by a Tart Apple from the Pokemart in Hammerlocke. Otherwise, you'll have to try your luck finding a Tart Apple in the Wild Area at Axew's Eye.
Tumblr media
If you'd rather skip the drama of tracking down a flappin' Tart Apple for evolution, you can obtain a Flapple directly exclusively in Sword version. You'll need to battle and capture it in possible Max Raid battles in Axew's Eye, Bridge Field, Dappled Grove, Giant's Mirror, and Stony Wilderness. If you want to find one with the ability to G-Max, you'll need to narrow your search to the Dappled Grove.
Tumblr media
~COOL FLAPPLE FANART~
Does Flapple have cool fanart, you may ask yourself? IT SURE AS FLAP DOES!
Tumblr media
D'aww...it's cute. I get a Looney Tunes vibe from this design.
Tumblr media
Getting ready to spew some hazardous apple-based cyanide at ya!
Tumblr media
Hanging out with it's Shield exclusive brother/sister, Appletun!
Tumblr media
The Pokémon Apple family!
Tumblr media
Oh no! I don't think it knows it's also throwing anxiety-apples, too!
~CONCLUSION~
Maybe one day the Pokémon of the Week will be one I've actively had on my team. As much as I enjoyed learning all the flappin' apple-based lore about Flapple, I haven't ever used one. I do really like the idea behind it, even if it is a little silly. Overall, a solid Attack 'mon with a unique typing I like a lot!
Have you guys ever used a Flapple? What are your thoughts? Let me know!
Until next time! Join me next week for a real short-fused pre-evolution 'mon with a temper!

The Mosley Review: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Tumblr media
Finally! After a seemingly diminish of quality that was Phase 4 of the MCU, we finally get back to something serious and a feeling of something at stake. I'm not saying Phase 4 didn't have its moments of greatness. Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ms. Marvel, WandaVision, Loki, Shang-Chi and Eternals represent the best that Phase 4 had to offer. It felt as if it wasn't going anywhere or building to something that would payoff down the line. Well this film starts us off in an insanely creative and more direct path that I'm excited to see. What the MCU has done successfully all this time is have all of their films delve into all the different film genres. This entry in the Ant-Man franchise moves away from the comedic heist film genre and dives head first into the science fiction genre and doesn't let up. As a sci-fi fan, I was in heaven with all the different designs of creatures, environments and technology. It may not be for everyone as it does get trippy along the way and a little chaotic. There were moments of well placed bits of comedy, but this film had a mission and it delivered.
Tumblr media
Paul Rudd returns as Scott Lang / Ant-Man and he is as loveable and charming as always. He does start out with the same charm you expect, but there is a tonal shift with the character and I loved that we got more indepth with him. Paul brings out the more the self serving flaw of the character and quickly turns him around as he learns what being an Avenger really means. Evangeline Lilly returns as his love interest Hope van Dyne / Wasp and she is as awesome and powerful as expected. Her chemistry with Scott continues to be a bright spot in the franchise and I enjoyed their moments of bliss. Kathryn Newton was great as Scott's daughter Cassie as she begins to join the seemingly superhero family business. Once she was introduced, I was hoping that they weren't gonna take her through the same trope of rebellious teen. They did, but it was reactive to the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame and I thought that was brilliant. The father and daughter story between Scott and Cassie was a highlight and brings out the heart of the film. Michael Douglas returns as Hank Pym and he was clearly just having a good time on this weird adventure. His chemistry with everyone was fun to watch and especially with Cassie. Michelle Pfeiffer returns as well and was outstanding as Janet Pym. She takes the lead in the story and it was fun to see the many layers of secrets about her time in the quantum realm get slowly peeled away. She carries such a weight on her shoulders and I loved seeing that playout amongst her family. Bill Murray was good and interesting as Lord Krylar. He didn't take the comedic route as most would assume and it was actually refreshing. His connection to Janet was also fascinating added a great amount of tension. Katy O'Brian was cool as the freedom fighter Jentorra. She handled her own in all of her action scenes, but at times she came off 1 note and there really wasn't much there to explore. I did love that every character had a part to play in the grand scale of the story, but the real definition of grand came from the film's antagonist. Johnathan Majors truly delivers a regal and yet threatening presence as Kang the Conquerer. There are no quips, no punchy one liners and no gimmicks. He is very cold, ferocious and his dedication to freedom is demonstrated constantly. Majors shows so much conviction to the character's belief system and he carries such a gravitas to his amazing performance. This variant of the character was 100% the Julius Caesar of the MCU and I can't wait to see more of him as Phase 5 continues.
Tumblr media
The score by Christophe Beck was fun and on brand with the Marvel sound. I did love the influences of the 1950's sci fi style orchestration and sound. It reminded me of the original Lost in Space series that I watched as a kid on VHS. Visually the film was gorgeous and everywhere you looked there was something to revel in. The creativity of the VFX teams and creature design teams was on the screen and they did an amazing job. I loved that this film got weird in many aspects whether it be the creatures or the story itself. This was a good start to Phase 5 in my opinion, even though I sense that this film will be more hit or miss for folks. There are 2 end credit scenes that lay out a strong piece of thread that'll weave its way through the MCU in many ways. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Tagged by @toasthaste in a "put your playlist on shuffle and post the first 10 songs" thing. I used my Spotify "liked" playlist, ~ 800 songs, and skipped if it played more than one song per album. It's less representative of my taste than I'd prefer because most of my songs are in specific playlists rather than the "liked" heap (I should fix that. Somehow). Anyway:
Here's Toby by Henry Mancini, from The Great Mouse Detective soundtrack
At one point I was able to hum almost this whole soundtrack, it's fantastically evocative. This part is just a fun piece about a mouse introducing another mouse to his pet Basset Hound.
Don't Cost Nothing from Steven Universe, featuring Tom Scharpling and Zach Callison
The music from Steven Universe is so good! It's weird and emotional and short. There are a handful of songs I had to just sit down with and absorb, most notably "It's Over Isn't It" and "Here Comes a Thought." Also it uses the ukelele heavily, which is great if you have a ukelele and want to learn songs you like.
Old Dan's Records by Gordon Lightfoot
I love... almost all of Gordon Lightfoot's music, tbh, the whole telling a story by singing a song thing is just really good, and this song in particular nails the whole 'soft nostalgia for something that happened to somebody else' vibe.
World's Best Kiss from Galavant
Galavant!
The Rose by Bette Midler
Overheard my boss singing this one, went home and tracked it down. It's good.
The Heart Carol from My Little Pony's "It's a Pony Kind of Christmas" album
This one's okay actually? I like the whole album. The music's great but also for how they tried to remove the Christ from Christmas. Didn't work, but I appreciate the effort/worldbuilding.
Twist of Fate by Olivia Newton-John from the Stranger Things album
I uh, don't actually recognize this song. I watched the first three seasons of Stranger Things and downloaded the album when Spotify was doing some kind of promotion gimmick thing, but ended up not listening to it.
Adamant Fortress by Trevor Morris from the Dragon Age: Inquisition soundtrack
Yes! This was the first song in my dnd background music playlist. The video game is also really great, beautiful and fun.
Someday from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
I forget if this is a credits song or exclusive to the album. Not a bad song but it definitely trails behind... every single song from the actual movie, which is stunning.
Ah les crocodiles by Monde des Titounis
Ah, was kinda tempted to skip over this but we're killing the part of you that cringes here so, uh. Found les Titounis when trying to absorb french vocab, kept them around because I work with kids and many of them Love these songs. I have sung C'est la Baleine many times.
Tagging people! Note that you're not at all obliged to do this if I tag you. Also if you see this and I didn't tag you but it looks like fun, do it anyway and tag me! (has that ever worked? has anyone ever seen that and actually gone on to do the thing? I feel like that would take a great deal of courage) anyway, tagging @just-evo-now @otterknowbynow @rusalkii @ashen-rose-thorn @xactodreams @ghostofasecretary @change-the-rules
